a crappy little stain on the internet called sonsofsparda-dot-com. It was one of those places where the forum founder had since moved on and left everything to incompetent underlings, who recruited their even more incompetent friends to staff the place when they finally decided to leave. Admitting heavy bias, as the second generation admin and I butt heads a lot. However, his idea of running a good forum was having custom smilies and reporting rumors as news, and actually managed to delete the entire RP section once in an attempt to give it a cute name. No, he wasn't smart enough to back up things before all of this happened. This forum no longer exists, or at least the domain was sold to someone else.

As much as I hated management, there was a decent clutch of writers there. Even though I can't read those stories anymore, I have fond memories of them, even the ones that never quite finished.

I started on a minecraft server called 'Fall of an Empire'. Being minecraft it wasn't super great but I'll give credit where credit is due and say that was probably some of the best times I've ever had roleplaying. The server had race systems, race languages, in-depth lore, magic/spells, monsters galore, cities, settlements, etc. It had just enough governing that it wasn't a huge shite show but left a whole lot open for people to really make characters and scenarios that they wanted.

This all being said I was pretty young back then and it might have just been real shite in general but those memories are far from it.

I kicked off on the Minecraft forum at age twelve, along with all the other plebs. Went there to write fanfiction (of course) and discovered that at the time the forum put roleplays in its fan art section. I found a mismatched thread roleplay called The Final Exploit, created a character sheet which I promptly lost and rewrote, and sent off my edgelord fishman oc into a glacial tunnel to run into the party.

And so my writing skills exploded and the rest of my life began its slow descent into hell.

Right around my high school days between 99-03 I began posting on the dccomics.com message boards that no longer exist. From there I went to the geoffjohns.com forums that were for his work and a host of other writers [I think it's actually comicblok.com now] that had a fan works section. FanFic was not allowed [because of the pro writers affiliated with the forums], but for some reason fanfic in the context of an RPG was fine. My first RP was the Justice Society RPG #3 during a time when Geoff Johns was killing it on JSA for his first major run. I played in another RP or two on that site with the same JSA theme and GM'ed at least one until starting some forums with a guy who I only remember as 'Steve' called the Krypton Protocols. I ran like my second or third roleplay ever [a Justice League RP] on those forums with posters from the DC comics boards and the Johns forums that was around 15 or 16 players.

True story, the guy that played the Flash and the girl who played Jade got together and met in person. Had a Star Wars themed wedding and a baby.

After the shine wore off of those forums and Steve broke contact [or maybe it was me, I had a few different AOL accounts at the time] I migrated to thegreenlanterncorps.com forums where I ran a handful of Green Lantern RPG's. At some point I followed a troll over here and I liked the scenery so I stuck around. I was maybe in 6 or 7 forum based RP's before coming here.

In my youth I was all about the Final Fantasy Super Nintendo RPGs, Mario RPG, and playing D&D with my older nephew.

I arose from a series of varied roleplaying forums and instant messenger roleplays, the majority of which were some flavor of science fiction, mostly because I lived in an isolated place and had few other forms of interaction or entertainment. I was much out of my league as they would be considered "Advanced" here on the Guild while I was at best a very low "Casual", but those members present only inspired me to do far better by constantly trumping me left and right. In many aspects I began to mirror their ability or outright had them teach me what I should or should not do as a character and roleplayer, short of the obvious that we all know an roll our eyes at, but after a few years the sites all almost simultaneously splintered and the people disappeared. I wandered for a time after that, which also aligned with a "dark age" of sorts for my person.

I returned only to actual roleplaying when I found a group that played "Dungeons and Dragons", which I mention in quotes because it was about as loose a tabletop version of Third Edition could be as almost everything was rolled for at random. Every game was absolute chaos, but at least I had people who were willing to try and teach some elements of the game. That brought me into the world of fantasy, a concept I had previously disdained because it seemed to have no rules. After researching and mastering a few actual tabletop games, I realized how much I enjoyed the framework and spirited it away for my own purposes and that is then what led me here; the continual search for somewhat structured roleplaying.

Oh? The names? That's one of the most depressing elements. I have actually lost the names and I myself would be unrecognizable to the players then in this day. They've just all sort of blurred away, but their impact hasn't.

Eh, why not? I might as well respond to this, even if the time I leave this site for good is fast approaching.

If we're talking strictly play-by-post role-playing, then I started on a role-playing forum called The Light Within -- over a decade ago. It was basically a Final Fantasy forum, and was strictly an 'Advanced' role-playing site, though most of the posts (IC and OOC) from me and the others on the site aren't there anymore due to multiple reboots of the site. I eventually left, for similar reasons to why I'm leaving this place, and got invited to another Final Fantasy forum called The Final Chapter. At the same time, I started creating my own role-playing sites and a group of people migrated over to them. During this time, I took part on a few other sites devoted to various others fandoms, including Suikoden and Kingdom Hearts, but ultimately I decided to stick with my own sites after a while. I also returned to The Light Within and played a large part in one of the site's attempts at revival (when I left the first time, it sort of triggered a chain reaction leading to others doing the same, but people tried to revive it several times -- the community unfortunately had a tendency to just go MIA).

On the other hand, if we're not talking strictly play-by-post then I've been role-playing - as well as running role-plays, for that matter - pretty much for as long as I can remember, but with a 'quality over quantity' attitude, resulting in me keeping the number I'm involved in very limited.

Well that was a short-lived legacy.

Oh, and to actually answer the thread's question:

I got into RPing on Roblox before I really knew what it was, and once I did know what it was, I started on Tumblr. Oh how the times can change...

A warrior cats roleplay site called Moonrise, which, unfortunately, doesn't exist anymore.

If you're asking about humans and not cats, I'd have to say a lovely little Proboards forum called Zolbana. Amazingly small community, and it's sort of dead now, but I'm attempting to resurrect it. I admit I had a short bout with the infamous Chickensmoothie, but I got over that and came over here.

Like a few people on the Guild, I originated from a site that is hollow shell of its former self, Kingdom Hearts Insider(Khinsider or KHI, as the locals called it). I still go on that site from time to time just to keep up on who is still around and who uses it. Also, to revisit the good old days.

From what I understand, the site is stuck in barely-active limbo. The administration is more or less the same as it was when I left it for a barely-recurring role back in 2013.

KHI was one of those sites that used VBulletin that got a lot of recognition of actually being one of the top Kingdom Hearts fansites of its time. During the time of 2007-2010, it had a feature that was known as the "RPG Inferno". For those who do not know about it, the RPG Inferno was a browser-based software that Vbulletin had which allowed you to make your own RPG via the use of landscape jpegs and sprites. During my time on sites that used it, there have been different stories, but more or less, the RPG inferno was a godsend, because it gave people to do in-between shifting activity in RPs. Plus, it was such a hit on KHI, that it had a large memberbase who used it. There were even a good amount of guilds - or as we called them - clans. I think there was about 100 members who used it loyally. As it should be assumed, once KHI made the jump to Vbulletin 4.0, those dedicated RPG Inferno loyalists made teh jump to their own site that used a previous version of Vbulletin so they could relive the glory days. To my current knowledge, those people and their site is no longer a RPG Inferno-used site.

Anyways, this site was where I've met some of the coolest cats I know. But, it has severely diminished in activity. It had a spike in 2012, but after that, it just never recovered. I know it has a loyal number base of about 50 or so active users, but the RPing section doesn't even have a tenth of that(to my current knowledge). For all I know, they could have more than that. I know a few of the people I hold near and dear to my heart have returned, but I doubt it'll regain its former glory. People have moved on to other things, either other sites like I have with the guild, or their own lives.

But, I will always hold a special place in my heart for Kingdom Hearts, for without it, I would have never discovered my love for roleplaying, and as an extension, finding the Guild. Funny how things work out, huh?

Being able to interact and connect with people in such a anonymous, yet kindred way is both a blessing and a curse. Like me many of you hold your past moments roleplaying dear. Thats good to know.

Speaking of Warrior cats RPs...

I should do more terrible, sub-free RP readings again sometime. I found a highschool RP that was great because the GM couldn't speel "socialize" and she always spelled it "socialist".

I have a long history of roleplaying. I forget my very first forum I joined but the one that I have fond memories over (Not so fond anymore) is Sonic Turbine Forums. In terms of the first forum I joined, but it is dead and I think it got hacked too. Not STF its still around but deader than a door nail in terms of activity.

I've been roleplaying much longer in terms of RL but I haven't done D&D really until I fell upon it on this forum. Which is funny. I think I joined a forum before STF since yeah... Which was hacked and deleted. But that forgotten and dead forum, will live as long as I remember I finished my very first RP on it. :P

I think before 2005? Or was it 2004. I forget. I created a Newgrounds account in 2004. >.>

I began RPing in maybe 2013, but because my memory sucks I'll say it was 2014. It started with LARPing and co-writing Fanfictions with my best friend (Luna here on the guild) and she introduced me to the guild not too long after.
