Tarkus grinned at Jack's approval, not that he really needed it, he just didn't want her to get left in the dust when the time came to spring the plan. He finished loading in the rounds, 2 shining crimson rounds waited aside 2 of a deep aquamarine color, the two colors contrasted one another as they shone, almost like they were excited for what was about to happen. That or Tarkus has something in his eyes, maybe both. With one fluid motion, he gripped the chord for Panzerfaust and pulled, the same engine revving noise form earlier starting as the dust began sifting together into the center. The two dust types quickly mixed, at first refusing one another, almost like oil and water before merging perfectly, and simultaneously converged, neither acting as solvent or solution, instead merging as one substance.

The Hammer Head began hissing as the metal grew hotter, the dust, while stable at the moment, was steadily growing heat from the fusion, wouldn't be long until it would force a discharge, so he had to make the one shot count. As he was getting ready to take aim, another bat came swooping down, trying to take him out before he could move. It was met with a swift swing from Cadeyrn, just because the thing was primed didn't mean it couldn't smack shit still. The searing metal collided with the Bat's face, not only sending it rocketing into another tree, it let out a horrifying screech, the other Bats must have taken it as a signal to charge, and so they did. They descended quickly, but hey, saved Tarkus the trouble of a few not getting caught in the cloud anyway. He aimed Cadeyrn near the epicenter of the black swarm, firing off the dust mixture, it instantly absorbed a vast quantity of moisture in the air, to the point of leaving behind heat haze, the air grew dry and hot within a second, and in one moment, a massive surge came forth form Cadeyrn. Steam billowed out like a valve, and Tarkus had to steady his footing to keep from getting knocked down as the steam billowed out, dissipating away from him and Jack, and rising as the Vamprie Bats did, screeching at their newfound burn marks and trying to get away from the ascending cloud.

"Now's our chance to make a break for it. Don't shoot 'em until they get close, I got another idea." He said as he started to sprint off to where he remembered the W.A.T.C.H. had pointed, his body was glowing with his aura's olive green hue as he ran, oddly touching several trees and bushes along the way as he went. Soon those would start to emit a sound at exactly 21KHz, even if the Bats tried to follow them, the frequency would block out their echolocation, and most of them had gotten steam burns around their eyes. Not like bats had good vision to begin with. He stopped after a while, taking a breather behind a small bush, waiting and hoping that Jack would catch up. If she didn't get there quick, he knew he'd have to double back, even if he just met her, it'd be a bad start to a friendship if you leave your new buddy to get mauled by bats. He began glowing green once again, ready to use Echoes once more if she didn't get there soon.

D4: Land of the Desperately Catching Up

It had been a while since Grizel had been in a forest. It was quite nostalgic, even if this particular forest wasn't much like she remembered her own. And at least she had an idea of where everything was. This place was just... a mess of trees, plants, Grimm, and loud, distant noises. The last two of those was just a wee bit concerning.

Well, she could trust her fellow students to take care of themselves, if they had entered Beacon. Maybe. To be honest, the surprise sky-diving probably threw everybody off-guard, but hey, that probably happened a lot on the job, too! Maybe there was lots of situations where you just had to drop an airship full of people into a forest?

Grizel looked at her WATCH, trying to recall how to work the stupid thing. She'd managed to bring up a display of dots, and after some deliberation, decided that her destination lay South. After all, she was fairly sure that some Grimm had her surrounded, and the dots below seemed to be the closest. Grizel was much better at one-on-one battles, so some backup would be greatly appreciated. MAybe Daiki was one of those dots, too?

"Well, better move," the faunus sighed. She could hear the flora rustling. If she was gonna flee to a better position, it was gonna be now. After a slight crouch, Grizel took off, weaving past trees as she tried to locate the dots from her map, before she managed to get stuck in a pincer attack by monsters.

Was there something in her greeting that prompted Orion to go over things that she already knew? For a moment, Arara was just a little curious as to why he would review mission objectives. He may have been saying this to confirm with her whether his information was correct, but his tone was too self-assured to imply such. In the end, she chose to say nothing, lamenting once more on the irregular speech patterns of the commoners. She should get a notepad some time, to write those things down.

Turning on the WATCH, Arara placed it against her wrist just long enough to have it registered to her, and then removed it. No point in scanning her Heavenwrath, because there was no need for the machine to read anything. No point in checking it to see her Aura levels, because she already had a feel for her own levels anyways. Really, the most useful thing that the WATCH might be used for was the map, and for such an expensive device to be used as a GPS...it was sorta funny. Allowing it to link up with Orion's own WATCH, officially signalling that to two were now partners, Arara reciprocated his smile. “I'm not very radical when it comes to clothing brands,” she said, following along, “But if you're going out to a date or a party, I'll be glad to lend my expertise and wardrobe to you.”

She refrained from taking out her credit card and spinning it this time.

Looking back down at her WATCH as it began to blink, the display revealing that the pair became 'Team NOVA', the girl nodded once. If it was like old times, their other partners would have N and V in their first name, but from what she had heard in recent years, those traditions had gone. It must have been too much trouble, making a word out of the first letters of a four-man team's names. She looked at it once, and then placed the WATCH in one of her pockets again.

She followed Orion's words, directing her gaze towards Lake Listless. A glimmer catching her eye, Arara narrowed them, focusing on the silver orb that was conveniently floating upon a piece of driftwood. Before she could retrieve it though, it fell into the water, sinking at an abnormal rate. Arara clicked her tongue in disapproval, before taking out her WATCH and bringing up the map once more. Inconveniently enough, the orb had sank onto the lakebed, and even though there seemed to be many tunnels leading to the bottom of the lake, they didn't look promising. Were they tunnels that lead to underground coves? Or were they tunnels that just happened to be below or near the lakebed? She didn't want to take the risk of getting flooded while underwater, after all.

It was really annoying, actually, how she didn't have enough people to simply drive a vertical shaft all the way to the bottom of the lake with her Aura. Her kingdom needs to expand.

“Seems like we found our cache, Orion.”

Rotating her wrists clockwise, and then counterclockwise, she looked out that the lake once more and said, “I would like very much to just get this done with, but would you rather take the direct route of fishing the cache out of the lake, or going down an underground network and finding another access point to the lakebed?”

Of course, the direct way would be preferrable, because Arara could just use Heavenwrath's independent-movement function to dive underwater and lift up the orb, but they were partners now. She would give him the benefit of the doubt and let him decide on the best course of action.

Jack winced a bit as the dust mixed together and the whole hammer started hissing and whistling like a kettle, silently hoping that this plan wasn't going to blow up in their faces. Not that she didn't have faith in her partner, she just preferred to stick with basics. When the spout of steam was released into the onrushing swarm of bats, everything turned out better than expected. They caught the brunt of the steam cloud, and it was at least powerful enough to stun them.

When Tarkus took off away from the swarm and towards the cache, Jack didn't need to be told twice to get a move on. When he stopped to take a breather and see if she was keeping up, he'd find she was right on his heels, seemingly not winded at all from the little sprint. Glancing over her shoulder to check if the scalded bats were still in pursuit, and then down to the WATCH face to see how far off their goal was, she finally turned back to Tarkus and gave another thumbs up. "I'd call that a success, I guess. You ready to move?"

Tarkus & Jaclyn

In unison, the two student's watches beeped, alerting them to the close proximity of their assigned cache. In fact, from their current location they could roughly see it in the distance through the thick forest canopy. A large hill stood tall in the middle of the woods devoid of the thick brush that surrounded it on all sides. Covered in a thick layer of lush grass, only a single willow sat onto the top. The relatively tall tree was rather simply, devoid of the normal complex twisting branches of its kind. It still seemed pretty healthy though, sprouting plumes of leafage to soak up the sun. Upon the tip of its trunk a shining a silver orb sat. One would assume this metallic man made device was the cache. The duo would note that, as they approached the hill off in the distance, the plant life around them began to dwindle... bushes lay dead and a very strange odor permeated the air. Once proud oaks appeared to be completely and utterly barren with their branches curved in wicked shapes. The closer the pair would get to the hill with their goal, the more of these rotting trees would appear until finally they formed a blockade. The hill may have been without any heavier plant life, but surrounding it was a wall of medium height, dead tree husks with their branches intertwined by brambles and vines.

As was tradition among Beacon, no sooner than the freshly formed pair arrived and cracking sound permeated the air. A cracking sound started by one of the trees whom sat further back on the trail. A hooked branch came swinging in from the rear, aiming to loop itself around Jaclyn's leg and drag the girl to its sinister source, whilst Tarkus would find a similar fate from below. Two roots sprung from the damp soil below to grab onto his ankles and hold him in place while the beast whom the roots belonged readied to strike; a terrifying looking tree trunk with a set of glowering crimson eyes and branches that started to whip around wildly.

Similar sights began to spring up all around them. Vampire Trees, and a good number of them. At least seven individuals had started to come to life with intentions to squeeze the teens dry of every drop of blood they had. It was gonna be a long day.

Orion Armstrong

It seemed things were starting off well between the pair; at least they were in Orion’s eyes. The heir to the Sakanade Company was responsive to his jokes, and while she didn’t seem to be laughing, she was at least smiling. He had to admit, Arara was pretty when she smiled. He’d have to make an effort to make the smile the norm.

Orion watched her look down at her own W.A.T.C.H. and was quick to follow suit. He noted the addition of her information onto the output screen of the device, as well as the Team NOVA thing they had going on. Wasn’t sure what that meant, in all honestly: The pairs had only just started to form, so it seemed unlikely that it the ‘N’ and the ‘V’ would be correlating to the other two members of their team. Instead, it seemed like an arbitrary word with ‘O’ and ‘A’ was selected and attached to the pair. It didn’t really matter to Orion, either way.

Arara took a certain degree of initiative when it came to dealing with the finding of the cache. She quickly examined and integrated the information that she had then used in an attempt to retrieve the cache quickly and efficiently. The cache dropped down as she seemingly got closest; tantalisingly close even. Arara made noises of disapproval as she brought up the map on her W.A.T.C.H. which Orion glanced at, instead of bringing his own up.

“Seems like we found our cache, Orion.”

Orion nodded silently as Arara begin to rotate her wrists clockwise, and then counterclockwise, she looked over the lake once, before she spoke again. “I would like very much to just get this done with, but would you rather take the direct route of fishing the cache out of the lake, or going down an underground network and finding another access point to the lakebed?”

Orion didn’t really need much thinking time over this question. He hardly suited an exploration mission, not to mention that fighting underground with such raw, unchecked power could be fatal. “I can’t be dealing with going underground for something that might not actually work. I can’t help but feel that a cache just…being in the lake is too easy though. How strong a swimmer are you?” Orion was working on an idea, just something minute in his head that might be useful, and would possibly stop him from getting any wetter. He couldn’t imagine his hat would maintain its shape atop his head if expose to any more water. “If you feel up for it, we could tie a length of rope or maybe a vine or something around your waist while you get swim for the cache. If I’m wrong, we are just a little over cautious and don’t have to worry about anything; if I’m right, I can pull you to safety. Sound like a plan?”
Isaac Markeel

Isaac could have easily found the time to fight Rygar to the ground, when his opponent started to spout gibberish about the geological movements of myrmidons and about a possible nest in the east and then, the strange brat thought he should continue the building of a strong partnership by insulting Isaac. Isaac had expected his infamy to be lesser in Signal, but for it to not exist at all surprised him to no end.

Rygar had already hopped away from Isaac when he found himself ready to speak. He looked down at the watch; he saw the information he had hoped wouldn’t pop up- His official partnership with Rygar, and their team name, RiP. Isaac smirked lightly at the irony of the name, considering his fighting style, at least. “At least he isn’t a Faunus.”

Isaac was not interested in following Rygar directly. He knew he wouldn’t need the brute and, while it was more than possible that the man’s fighting style and combat techniques would make for interesting watching: it made far more sense for Isaac to focus on completing the mission objective and going after the cache. He looked at the WATCH and, upon spotting the nearest cache, would head towards it; Rygar could go fuck himself, for all Isaac cared. If the battle hungry moron wouldn’t take the time to look at the map, it was his problem. “I’ll do well despite this 'partner', if I must.”

Rygar continued on, discovering early that his "partner" had decided not to follow him. "Well, if that's his game, he can play by himself." A quick check on his WATCH and Rygar noted that he was detected two caches; and if he was right, he was heading in the direction of one already. He wasn't sure what'll happen if they both managed to get their own cache, but if Rygar could at least determine the exact location, rather than just the general area, that'll put him a step above the others. He continued on his path looking for the cache.

It wasn't long before he found what seemed to be the nest of the Myrmidons, or at least a entrance. There was a lot of the bugs moving in and out going about their own business. There was bugs of various sizes, big ones being fairly rare. "Not a lot of warriors out here eh? Must be guarding the nest, and that's where the cache is going to be." Entering from the entrance was suicidally stupid, however; even with his wall crawling abilities, it was a power shared by the Myrmidons, so sneaking past them like that was out of the question. If he planned to just cut a bloody swath through them he'd need an entire team, and he just lost his partner. However, no doubt that there was a much larger and more complexes series of tunnels inside, and all he needed was to find one crack to sneak in. If he even wanted to take this cache; information was power, and now that he knows were the cache and the local threat is, he can scout around for other locations and determine which one would be the easiest to get to. Diving head first into whatever came wasn't the smartest idea, though he shouldn't take too long. Once he had a plan of action, Rygar ran off towards the forest.

His reasoning, given what information he currently had, made sense. Seeing how he suggested that she go diving, it could be assumed that Orion himself was not an adept swimming. And considering his size, it was reasonable for him to avoid going underground, where room was limited. If he couldn't control his strength, that would probably cause a tunnel or two to collapse as well. Or maybe it wouldn't. Arara wasn't sure how to gauge his strength at the moment. Jumping feats were nice, but they weren't a true indication of destructive power.

“The lake has Grimm in it. Unless melodrama is the norm in Vytal, I doubt they would name it Lake Listless for no reason. If we were to give great significance to the name...I would say that there's something in there that can influence the mind? Or perhaps a camouflaged Grimm that can lie in ambush for days? And swimming would not be the solution here. We have no source of oxygen that isn't dependent on consuming Aura, nor do we know how deep the lake actually is. I'd prefer not to plunge into the deep unknowns of a lake, just like how I would imagine that you would prefer not to dive into a mining tunnel.”

Then, she twirled her spear three times, before balancing it on the tip of her index finger. Focusing some of her Aura into it, Arara had it levitate one feet above her finger, the orb in the center glowing with red light.

“However, my Heavenwrath is a weapon that can be manipulated with Aura alone. If you have a way to provide vision down below, we can use my spear as a drone while we search for the box. Then, once we ascertain the depth and location, I can dive straight down for it. That being said, if all we need is to have our WATCHes come in contact with the data cache, we can circumvent diving and just secure the WATCHes onto my spear, before sending it down.”

“What do you think, Orion?”

Shores of Lake Listless - Arara and Orion

The cache that dropped below the surface of the lake had apparently shifted its position, as now it was reading from the forest on Sinkhole Island. There were many underground tunnels in the area, and some of them were currents leading to and from the lake. They possibly came from underground Dust deposits interacting oddly with the water, or maybe there was something unique about the terrain that created underwater jet-streams. They were connected to the island, as people who were lost in one of the island's "sinkholes" sometimes found themselves, if they survived, in odd caverns inside the mountain, or near the ravine. Maybe some of these streams led to the island as well? Maybe the cache was floating in a spring on the island, caught on the root? Or maybe something moved it, though what could move the cache from the lakebed to the middle of the island?

Whatever it was, it had moved once, and if Team NOVA didn't move quickly, they might lose the chance to retrieve the cache completely.

Addica Vald

Location: Back of a King Taijitu heading towards Oli--- A5

After landing Addica took a moment longer to tend to his shoulder, all the while looking around the forest that he had crashed landed into. Looking above him into the tree branches Addica wished he could swing from tree to tree alternating launches from the Reisszahne but with his shoulder injured as it was it made more since to trek across the ground. Looking down at his WATCH he noticed most of the remaining unpaired students were behind him, deeper into the forest. Not quite where Addica wanted to find himself with an injured shoulder. Taking a longer glance at the WATCH Addica found a student who seemed more or less stationary, thusly he decided his destination. Activating his armguards, he watched them slide into place over his arms as well as over the dust reservoir of the Reisszahne. When the guards were locked in position Addica took off, sprinting through Death Grip Forest.

Well he ran he concentrated his aura, attempting to repair the damage he had done to his shoulder. Or at the very least null the pain enough to make it usable. Feeling the pain reside in his shoulder he decided to see if it was in good enough condition to use the Reisszahne without pain. Aiming his right arm at a branch above him he let the kunai fly, as it made connection and he felt himself leave the ground a huge white snake head appeared in his line of flight.

Immediately relinquishing the blades hold on the tree he found himself dangling in the King Taijitu’s white mouth Addica only managed to keep from sliding down the throat of the monster by a firm grip he maintained on the upper lip. Hanging in the Taijitu’s mouth in between the fangs was pretty much the last place Addica had planned on ending up when he had shot his own fang into one of the trees. Holding his grip firm with his right arm Addica aimed his left Reisszahne towards the ground, and subsequently the Taijitu’s lower jaw. As if it knew what he was thinking the Taijitu began to shake its head, trying to dislodge the tasty morsel of flesh that was Addica from its mouth into its gullet. The shaking threw off Addica’s aim but taking his best bet he fired… and scored a direct hit as the Reisszahne passed through the lower jaw all the way into the ground locking in place with a solid thunk. Reeling in his cable the Taijitu’s head, as well as Addica, zoomed towards the ground. At the last second Addica rolled out of the Taijitu’s mouth, letting the fangs and the upper jaw come crashing into the lower jaw and subsequently the ground. Landing on the ground with a rather ungraceful thud Addica had no time to relax as the black head of the Taijitu came crashing after him continuing with his roll he managed to dodge the black head while at the same time his cable came in between its jaws. Thinking on the fly Addica launched himself onto the black heads neck, continuing to retract the cable from his left hand. Landing on the back of the black head, Addica launched his other Reisszahne through its lower jaw, crossing his cables and in such form a kind of make shift bit and bridle on the black head that was locked into place by the white head.

From that position it became a simple matter of using the yellow dust stored in the gauntlets to give shocks to either side of the King Taijitu in an effort to steer it towards the student that Addica had originally picked out his partner. After all as he was he couldn’t actually execute the Taijitu without it giving it an opportunity to attack back. As Addica on the back of his makeshift mount cleared the forest he saw the shape of a fellow hunter-to-be seemingly stuck in the cliff face.

Another click of her tongue, as the pinging of her WATCH notified Arara that the data cache had moved once again. Bringing out the WATCH from the folds of her clothing once more, deciding that it would be better off just putting it on her wrist, she took another glance at the map. Now, the data cache was in the 'forest' of Sinkhole Island. Most likely, under the surface of the island, having been dragged there by an underwater current or an underwater Grimm. So it was both underwater and underground. Instead of a Grimm, it appeared that the main challenge of this 'cache' was terrain-based. An interesting challenge, perhaps even harder than simply getting a data cache off some giant Grimm.

At the very least, exploration wasn't her forte, and it wasn't Orion's as well. So, ultimately, a fair challenge, in something that may have been easy if it was merely a straight up confrontation with one of those soulless monsters.

“Seems like a change of plans would be necessary now, wouldn't it,” she said, showing the updated map on her WATCH to Orion.

With that, she drew into her Aura reserves once more, creating a five-foot radius Aura construct in the shape of a lily pad. With a bit of extra effort, the lily pad 'blossomed' into a flower, radiantly colored petals translucent against the surface of the water. Jumping onto the golden center of the flower, Arara thought for a moment, before saying, “You should jump on ahead, Orion. If the currents are strong enough that it can bring the data cache that far in, it might be swept out of the island soon as well. I'll stay around the perimeter, in case of that. Contact me if you find it, or if you think that the data cache is stuck somewhere.”

Yeah, that should be enough of a safety net. The map of the island didn't show any sort of inner lake from which the data cache could spring up in, and the tunnels all seemed to be interconnected, so there was the very real threat of the data cache simply being flushed out while they milled about underground.

“Your thoughts on this 'adjustment'?”

Orion was alerted of the need to change his and Arara’s plan by an annoying pinging sound that resonated from the W.A.T.C.H. The device was proving itself useful once again, due to its ability to detect the cache’s movements and soon Orion was wondering how best to try and tackle the difficulty of a moving cache while ignoring the obvious ‘dive in and wing it’ strategy.

Thankfully, he seemed to have struck gold with his partner. She was quick to react to the change and was even quicker to put both her thoughts and his own into words. It made things a lot simpler that she understood what he was going to say without saying it: god forbid he get embroiled with some racist who saw him as a foolish monster, or some braggart who thought himself the next fucking Arrun Towers or Inigio Drake.

Indeed, as she brought up the map of the surrounding area, it was clear that the cache was going to be moving volatilely for a while; which could spell disaster for their chances of claiming this cache. All in all, that meant only one thing.

” “You should jump on ahead, Orion. If the currents are strong enough that it can bring the data cache that far in, it might be swept out of the island soon as well. I'll stay around the perimeter, in case of that. Contact me if you find it, or if you think that the data cache is stuck somewhere…” She paused for a moment, as if measuring something…someone, perhaps? “Your thoughts on this ‘adjustment’?”

Orion looked at Arara, then at the lake, then at the weapon in his hand. It probably wasn’t the best thing to be using in a lake, but it sure as hell beat a sword or, god-forbid, an axe. “What do I say?” Orion shrugged as he shifted the position of his hand on the Polearm he used as his weapon: the shift in hand position had him holding the weapon like a harpoon; focused on thrusting actions. “I say there ain’t nothing too it, but to go ahead and do it.” With that, he offered the woman a little wave and jumped into the lake, not bothering to flare his aura as he began a swim towards the direction island, and the hopefully, the cache itself. He wasn't sure if he should have offered to carry Arara across the river, but it was likely she could handle a small swim on her own. As he swam, he felt a small amount of trepidation. Things had been easy thus far: perhaps too easy?
Isaac Markeel

Isaac was calmer, now that he had abandoned Rygar on his little ant hunting quest. Instead, he had moved towards a different cache altogether, avoiding the cache that might prove the bloodhungry fool right and instead heading further into the mountains. His partner had seemingly failed to make use of the W.A.T.C.H that the prospective hunters had been awarded, because he had missed an obvious cache that was even closer than some wild goose chase after a bunch of ants.

Isaac’s journey through the mountains had been quiet. His chosen method of moving about had allowed him to miss several opportunities to kill groups of lesser Grimm, and each time, Isaac had felt a twinge of annoyance. He wanted to destroy the monstrosities, but that might leave Isaac further behind Rygar. If the annoying bloodhound managed to find a cache before he did: he suspected a great deal of annoying jibes would follow.

Despite this motivation, Isaac could only stomach so much. His every instinct was to hunt Grimm. His father had trained him to be a hunter, and that would be his job. He would hunt, and he would kill. The Grimm were nothing but prey in front of Isaac’s weapons: his fangs, his claws, his deadly hunter’s web.

Isaac soon found himself descending upon a group of Beowulfs. The creatures were disorganised as a pack, and the first one, the biggest one Isaac could make note of, was dead before Isaac hit the ground. Several bayonets had pierced through vital organs and Isaac dragged himself towards the perforated cadaver: planting his feet onto the beast’s chest and using it as a landing board. He looked around the group of monsters with a grin as they slowly turned to realise their leader was dead. He flicked out the bayonets attached to the WALTER unit’s ten deadly wires, waiting for the Beowulfs to strike. Three surged in at once and were put down by a variety of clinically precise stabs, at the back of their necks.

Four were down, four remain. Each was hesitant to approach the hunter in his prime, who took a carnal delight from delivering such brutal death to the Grimm. “Who is next?”

A noise pieced the air. A noise the Beowolves knew all too well. Despite being mindless beasts, if they knew fear. More noises, but more human. Screams. By the time the creature revealed itself, it was covered in gore, and the Beowolves beat a hasty retreat into the mountains. They would rather face Hunters than to face this monstrosity.

Walking onto the scene drenched in hunter blood was the Unicorn, who just finished having a little drink after his initial meeting with a small group of hunters. Some sort of rope was attached to it's horn, was was someone's hand. The Unicorn's flesh was unscathed however, with only the bloody prints of those who tried to stop it. The Unicorn looked at Issac, knowing fully well of who he was. And it made the Unicorn angry. Though it did not know about the exam going on, it did not take kindly to all these humans and faunas wondering around in his territory. Without warning, without mercy, the Unicorn unleashed a large whirlwind at Issac with a swing of it's horns, picking up even boulders ten time his size and weight, while sending smaller pebbles flying through the air and tearing apart anything unlucky enough to get caught. The Beowolves who did not flee were shredded into the bones, while the entire mountain side began to shift thanks to the Unicorn's attack.

Soon the whirlwind grew in size. Anyone above ground would see it, if only for a short while. It lasted at least five minutes.

G7

In the underwater caverns of the lake, the cache belonging to Orion and Arara washed up deep onto a shore underground. It was a deep dive, into a dark abyss voided of light. Except from the Sirens. These creatures stood still, sensing the visitor in their midst. They knew what he was after. They knew how to capture him, to take him for their own. They hide among the corals and other illuminated algae. Soon a force of up to ten were watching Orion. Waiting for him to fall into their trap. All they needed him to do was reach the cache. If he took the cache, they would have him.

Not the best place to rest. Thanks to the actions of the Unicorn, a large pack of Beowolves descended from the mountains to escape the chaos. A large pack of thirty stumbled upon the two girls. The biggest Alpha Beowolf howled, which signaled three of the grimm wolves to run towards the two hunters, lunging towards them with their claws extended and baring their fangs, hoping to take a bite out of the petite humans and have a good meal. After those three went, more and more dived in, each one thinking that if they acted fast enough they could get a piece of flesh. Even the Alpha Beowolf attacked, having a easier time since he was three times the size of the other ones.

Well, the forest sure as hell knew how to keep the nostalgic feel. The faunus certainly had no trouble recalling the days where she would happily climb trees, climb vines, come dangerously close to eating suspicious mushrooms and run from what she was quite sure were man-eating plants. Yes, all that was clearly succeeded spiritually from the grand act of barrelling past everything in an attempt to reach those two dots, before she was surrounded by man-eating monsters instead.

Keeping a very close eye on her WATCH and the ground below her, Grizel took no notice of what lay in front of her, resulting in very leafy, twiggy and generally wild hair. Not anything that couldn't be fixed later, so no point in worrying about it now.
Closer and closer... the dots were almost exactly in the center now, which meant that around now, she should be-

"Oh, jeez!" Finally remembering to look up, Grizel planted both feet into the ground, battling to regain balance from the sudden stop. A few more steps, and she would have barrelled right into the two students she was searching for.
Finally managing to keep herself upright, Grizel sighed with relief, taking a moment to catch her breathe before introducing herself to Rena and Sayuri, "H...hey there! Um, I'm Grizel, and, uh... this thingy told me you were down here, and... well, three's better than one, right? Um,... you're okay with pairing up with me, right?"

Grizel figured it would take a special kind of awful to reject a faunus in this kind of environment, and even if they were wary, well... she'd just do what she did with Daiki and just be too lovable and awesome to hate!

Jaclyn Kentp

The back-attack caught Jack by surprise, and the branch succeeded in snagging her ankle and dragging her off her feet. Luckily she kept a hold on her axe. As the tentacular limb reeled her in towards the tree itself, she rolled onto her back and fired a shot into the whip-like branch just past where it was grabbing her. The blast was enough to tear through it, and she used the excessive recoil to somersault backwards and onto her feet.

Spinning on her heel and transforming Thunderdell with a whirling flourish, Jack fled the tree that had attacked her and launched into a sprint towards the one that was menacing Tarkus. Her charge was interrupted by jagged turns and shoulder rolls as she was forced to dodge the tree's other lashing branches, closing the gap at an alarming rate.

As Jack approached, her blade let out a shrill wail that rapidly grew higher in pitch until it became inaudible. Charged with her semblance, she swung her axe in a low horizontal arc at the base of the tree's trunk. An almost vicious smile spread over her face as she spoke in a tone that carried over the din of combat, her axe blade biting into the tree flesh.

"Timber."

Tarkus nodded a bit when Jaclyne asked if he was ready to move, he wasn't too surprised that she could keep up with him...it was kinda hard for him to really outrun much with Cadeyrn weighing him down anyway. He noticed the watch beep and smiled for a moment, glad that things were finally-
-FWIP-
His eyes widened as he felt the pressure around his ankles start, as if something had grapsed them. It felt like... a strong rope...but he had a bad feeling. After all, Grimm didn't make snares. Some of them were snares...Fucking Vampire Trees. He'd read about them once...honestly wondered how anybody would be blind enough to get close to one. Turns out they look like trees...who'd have figured?

The pressure started to build as he felt the roots tighten, he couldn't turn around to face his binder, but he was more concerned when he heard the cracking of branches moving, he knew what was about to happen, and instinctively, he reached for Cadeyrn still slung to his back, and tried his best to load one of his shells in. He was getting nervous from the whole: "About to get wrung dry by a tree thing, so he fumbled a bit with unzipping his satchel, his fingers twitched around inside the pouch, at this point anything would help him...anything.

And that anything would be his new partner, racing in to save his ass from a splintery death, dodging an onslaught of tendril-like branches before cutting into the roots binding him. He could hear some sort of sound coming from her axe...he figured it was probably her Semblance, something to do with sharpness...he made a note to ask about it later, because know was not the time to ask anyway. At least not until they got their cache...Now free from the roots, Tarkus rolled away from the Vampire Tree, his fingers now locked around one of his Lightning AP rounds. He turned to Jaclyne as he regained his stance giving her a thumbs up before saying: "Thanks for the save! Now, let's clean house and go grab that cache..."

He revolved the head out, and removed the APCR rounds, and swapped them out for 4 HEFT rounds, no way in hell a tree was gonna dodge these anyway. They were dust free, though after the 4 HEFT he also inserted one round of ACPR Lightning dust into the 4th chamber, he didn't want to leave himself open in case something else showed up. He let loose one of the rounds into the one that had grabbed Jaclyne, the shot rang out and when it collided with the bark-like skin of the Tree it embedded itself, before exploding violently, the tungsten wires cutting into the bark along with the explosion of the shot. The thing didn't go down after just one, so he unloaded another shot into it, at this point he'd completely obliterated the trunk and the thing toppled over. Tarkus had visibly slid back from the force of the shots, the head was pressed hard against his chest as he drag his feet back to where he was before, and did the same to the Tree's not-so-friendly neighbor, who befell the same fate after the same number of shots.

"So, what are the odds our team is gonna be there at the cache?" He said, not taking his eyes off the remaining Trees, prepared to evade any more of their knots if need be.

Isaac Markeel

The tension in the air bumped up several levels before Isaac got to actually see the threat and before even he got to hear it. Perhaps it was the unnatural tension of the Beowolves or perhaps it was the unease they had upon seeing a single hunter. Sure, he had killed the pack leader, but some of them should surely have attacked him.

The noise that echoed afterwards was enough to have Isaac tense and on the defensive. His training had been…extensive. He could identify a Beowolf from its distinctive roar. He could navigate a forest blindfold by the sound of an ursa’s claws scraping on wood. He could tell the distinct markings of a Deathstalker’s hunting grounds. Every conventional Grimm was something he could identify by the smallest of indicators: indicators a normal hunter-neophyte would miss.

This was no ordinary Grimm.

Before it came into view, Isaac unravelled the right hand WALTER wires and planted the bayonets attached to them into the side of a nearby rock-face. They could be used as an escape, at least.

When it came into view, Isaac’s tense muscles clenched into a state of unfamiliar feelings; feelings he had long since abandoned. The beast was huge in size and maintained a pristine appearance; all but a single chip in its horn marred it. The beast was covered in gore: someone else’s gore, and it was now setting its sights on Isaac himself.

“Shit…Where is that blood-hungry bastard when I need him?”

Isaac had about enough time to curse Rygar’s non-presence when the beast unleashed its whirlwind attack. Every battle-instinct that Isaac possessed screamed for him to not be touched by whatever attack the Unicorn could muster, and from the rope and limb hanging uselessly from the Beast’s own horn close-ness was not safe-ness.

That left only one choice. Isaac set to work with his semblance, reeling in the motor of the WALTER unit and reeling himself away from the beast as fast as he could. As he catapulted through the air, away from the Unicorn, Isaac watched various boulders be lifted into the air and shredded by the viciousness of the torrential whirlwind.

“What kind of monster is this!?”

Isaac reached the initially grabbed rock-face and quickly lashed onto another; Isaac was sure that he would not be able to win until he understood just what he was against. The whirlwind was relentless, but surely no Grimm could keep up a destructive force like that…Right?

No, thinking wouldn’t help at this point. Instinct and action would be Isaac’s weapons of choice. He couldn’t get in close enough yet, and his long range attack options were non-existent. The options were either wait out the whirlwind or find the eye of the storm.

Isaac kept flinging himself through the air, further and further away from the Unicorn when the mountainside started to shift. His eyes widened as the entirety of the Unicorn’s hunting ground, of which he was seemingly the only form of prey, began to slide down the face of the mountain and towards who-knows where. Isaac was focused on finding more shelter, and none was presenting itself. He settled for finding the biggest bit of sturdy mountain rock he could press himself behind and did just that. He waited for the whirlwind to stop, but at the same time, he listened for any sign of the Unicorn charging. It had been aggressive so far, it was unlikely the beast wouldn’t act the same way, now that Isaac had seemingly found a reprieve. His ears listened for anything: A roar, the charging of its footsteps, even the sound of its breathing. Anything that might give him the seconds he needed to dodge.
Orion Armstrong

Orion looked back at Arara and sighed, before giving himself one last big gulp of fresh air before he started to dive into the water. The clearness of the water made the lake seem serene and beautiful. Were Orion’s thoughts not so focused on the task at hand, he might have taken a moment longer to take in the surroundings.

Instead, Orion surged on with powerful kicks. He was only using his natural strength, hoping to reserve his aura reserves for later. If he was a master at using his aura, like his adopted mother, he might have been able to make the equivalent of an air-helmet using his aura. As it stood, his lungs would have to suffice.

Swimming through the lake was surprisingly uneventful. Every so often, Orion thought he could see something in his peripheral vision, but each time he tried to focus on it: he saw nothing. Every so often he checked the WATCH and saw that he was steadily getting closer to the blip that represented the data cache.

Orion spotted something in the dark of the lake that seemed promising; a cavern that was buried inside the island. He would have grinned, were he not holding his breath so carefully. He started to pour some of his aura into his semblance and his muscles started to feel a new energy overtake them. Each kick rocketed him through the water at a much faster pace, and he was upon the cavern entrance within moments. Orion had expected to have been attacked by now, yet still nothing. It was odd; had the cache really been moved by the current alone?

Orion’s head surfaced above the break of the water’s edge, and he spotted the cache on the shore instantly. It stood out by its inorganic-ness, and the prospect of such an easy victory made Orion just a little foolish. He climbed onto the shore and gripped the cache in one hand; feeling triumphant in his lucky victory. He had to admit, he was a little saddened to see that his fighting skills would go untested.

He tapped at the WATCH on his wrist, and decided to send Arara a message. Best tell her he’d been successful.

“Arara, I’ve got the cache in my hand. Just going to catch my breath, then I’ll be with y…”

Orion stopped speaking for a second: something seeming deathly off. He quickly pocketed the cache and clenched his fist, tension filling his every muscle over seemingly nothing. His grip on Epsilon Delta tightened. Something was here…

”Careful what you wish for, Orion.”

The air was tense and filled Daiki with an alertness that seemed to slow time down for him, as his eyes noticed every single leaf floating in the wind, every blade of grass, and even the tiniest twitch of the Ursas' fur. He could hear his partner fighting behind him, holding his own for the moment, it seemed. He didn't have the luxury of turning around to check. Not against three Ursa all waiting to charge. The one in the middle was the largest, meaning he could try and kill it first and risk his attack failing horribly, or somehow try to eliminate the two at the sides quickly before the Major Ursa got to him.

Time seemed to stood still as Daiki moved. First, he pounced to the left, drawing his blade and quickly aiming for the Ursa's neck. Its two companions roared and charged immediately, the smaller one getting pinned against the tree as it was swatted aside by the Major Ursa's momentum. It made life all the easier for Daiki as he whirled back around, his sword sheathed again as he ran and met his opponent. A swing of its paw would break several bones in Daiki's body, even protected by Aura, so the student made sure to note the range of the Major's swing by the length of its legs. As the swipe came, Daiki halted his charge just a hair's breadth away from the Grimm's claws before smirking and drawing his blade, an upward slash removing the attacking limb before it could even finish its swing.

From the corner of his vision Daiki noted the last Ursa coming right at him. Remember this well, boy: you can take down Grimm in one strike but that doesn't always mean you have the chance to - so this lesson could well save your life... The blade is not the only part of your sword. His uncle's words resonated in his mind as Daiki swung with his scabbard, using the momentum of his slash to spin around and impart additional force to his blow. He infused the scabbard with some of his aura to ensure the wood wouldn't simply break and splinter uselessly against its target, but even then he could have sworn he felt the scabbard bending and cracking in his hand. He sighed and regretted the amount of work he would have to do to repair later, even if it was a small price to pay for keeping himself alive.

The Major as limping but not dead yet, so in the interest of ensuring it couldn't find a chance to complicate their fight further, Daiki quickly took advantage of its temporary disability to stab it in the neck, ensuring it was dead before turning around to catch his breath and observe his partner. The boy seemed to be doing well, several of the Beowolves already dead. The Alpha seemed to be circling around still, not quite joining the fight yet. No doubt it thought they would get exhausted soon and use that opportunity to secure its prey. Daiki intercepted one of the Beowolves, swatting out of the way with a killing blow to its stomach while using the opening to get close to his partner.

"Need a hand?" He asked quietly, facing the rest of the pack and ready for another round of fighting.

Straightening himself Tirren looked at the circling Beowolves. From behind he could hear the sounds of his new found partner dispatching other Grimm, as of the moment it looked like he was on his own. He let his gaze drift over the ten circling monsters of Grimm, readying his rapier he waited patiently for them to strike. The air grew ripe with tension as he stood there, the growls of the Beowolves formed a wall of sound around him. Then three leaped at him all from different directions. Leaping upwards Tirren managed to avoid two of them, only to be hit in the legs by the third. He found himself knocked out of the air and onto his back.

Rolling with the impact he came to his feet. Reaching for his grimoire he began to pull the metal cable from the book's spine. With a sufficient amount of the cable freed Tirren dashed forward. Sliding under the nearest Beowolf's side he jammed his rapier into its underbelly and let go. Pushing himself to his feet he stopped the slide and managed to loop the cable around another Beowolf's paw. With a jump back from the Grimm he gave a quick jerk on the cable pulling it taunt around the Beowolf's paw.

As he went to pull the cable tighter he was bowled over by one of the other Beowolves. Knocked back the cable tightened around his gloved hand and in turn dug deep into the flesh of the ensnared Beowolf's paw. In a howl of pain from the Beowolf, its paw was severed and then there was a sickening sound of flesh being torn again as the rapier was yanked from the stomach of the other Grimm. Immediately the rapier began come back to Tirren’s hand as the cable whipped around and through his hand. He was able to grasp the weapon and hold it above as a Beowolf descended upon him. The blade of his weapon pierced the Beowolf's throat when it jumped. Falling under its weight Tirren managed to turn to land on top of it his sword now completely through the front and out the back of the Beowolf's neck.

Yanking the blade free Tirren looked about, two of the Grimm were dead and one was missing an appendage. Rushing the disabled Beowolf Tirren tore its throat with a flash of his weapon as it tried to lumber back to the still circling others. Placing his feet firmly under him Tirren adjusted his stance yet again, it looked like they would be attacking in waves. As he shifted to look at the rest of the Beowolves he felt his left leg grow weak and unsteady. Glancing down he saw a red horizontal slash on the front of his leg, it appeared one of the Grimm had been able to split his flesh. Grimacing he stood his ground and looked at the scene, hoping his partner was almost done and would be able to assist him soon. Then from behind he heard a quiet voice asking if he needed a hand. In a moment of light heartedness Tirren answered his partner with, "I hope you have more than one hand otherwise it might take more than I thought to handle this."
