Barely registering Christian, Ty, and Cade, when they all asked for a burger, or hot dog, or both, but still being able to address them, Spike Langley gradually gave each of them their orders. His responses, while seemingly natural, were on autopilot and mentally he wasn’t there, not really.

“Order up, host with the most!” He said enthusiastically to Christian.

“It’s going, it’s going. Eat up, pretty lady. No need to drink on an empty stomach,” He appreciatively smiled at Ty.

“An everything burger for you, bro!” He declared to Cade. It seemed Eleazor noticed Spike wasn’t in his usual sorts so he carried on the conversations, which was much appreciated.

More people came and went to grab food from him, right off the grill, and as time passed him by, Spike found his surroundings fading. Getting lost in his head, revisiting feelings he preferred to bury, he couldn’t help but feel empty on the inside. A feeling that resurfaces whenever something like this happens. His mother died, his father died, and now? The girl he thought he’d be with for as long as he thought he’d be alive for, which wasn’t long, but long enough, chose to leave him.

She was gone.

Without a word. Without a single goodbye. Without any care for how he might feel. Ghosting is what his friends would call it. Rejection without finality. She didn’t want to have this conversation. It was too much of a burden for her to give him closure. She liked leaving him hanging, just in case she changed her mind and came running back. Minty could have fun with his friends but when he wanted to explore, he was in the wrong. This had gone on for far too long and he kept letting her treat him like the last option instead of the first.

He wasn’t perfect. Yes, he does have a habit of not keeping his mouth shut and looking at other girls, saying exactly what’s on his mind, but if she wanted to commit, if she wanted him, he would’ve changed. If he could choose between any girl and her, he would’ve always chosen her. He wasn’t a complete piece of shit and when she had nights where she couldn’t sleep, he was the one answering her phone calls. Not Hunter. Not Dee. Not Lucas. Not fucking Mason. HE was the one. And yet, that meant nothing to her and she continued to take advantage of what they have.

His mind drifted further and further into the abyss of his imagination, as he started replaying a time that was a clear red flag.

____________________________________________________________________
“I’m not having this conversation right now, Spike. Please, just go home.”

“Why? Are you afraid to admit you caught feelings?”

“Don’t start this right now.”

“Answer the fucking question! Do you love me?”

“That’s not the point! That’s not why I asked you here.”

“How the hell is this not the point?! What the fuck are we, Aramintah? ”

____________________________________________________________________

She never did answer his questions. Not then, not now, and probably not ever. Shaking his head, Spike looked around and apologized to Eleazor. “Hey dude, just order pizza. I… I’m gonna’ go.” Not giving his grill partner any time to ask him what was wrong, Spike let his feet take him away. The party itself was chaotic and he knew right now, he needed to draw. If he kept this going, he would just keep sinking.

Avoiding interactions and any unfolding drama around him, Spike found himself going into Christian’s bedroom, awkwardly walking into lovers doing… stuff… and retrieving his things. The couple was quick to yell at him and cover up. Instead of giving them his attention, not even glancing at the girl’s boobs, he grabbed his backpack and left, unintentionally leaving the door open on them.

Once again, Spike let his feet lead him in a direction. Walking outside, he heard a familiar voice singing and strumming his guitar. On any other day, Spike wouldn’t welcome Rico’s voice because of his jealousy, but tonight he found himself drawn to the tune he was playing.

Joining the crowd, but keeping himself in the far side, to get a side profile of the big picture, which was a talented singer telling his listeners a story through song, Spike sat on the floor. Watching his musically inclined peer showcase his soul in front of everyone, Spike contemplated in silence and bobbed his head to the rhythm.

When Rico opened his eyes, he looked right through the crowd and straight to… Ellie. Or as Spike called her in his comics: Radiance. He knew they had a thing, and weren't afraid to show it, but he never felt comfortable asking Ellie the details. Plus, he preferred when she smiled and emitted her natural aura of life, love, and light. He didn’t want to risk bringing her down in any way, so he kept their conversation to idle chatter, focusing on art and books. This was the first time Spike took the time to watch them and all he could see was how intensely they looked at each other.

With fervent inspiration, Spike started sketching the scene, but in a more fantastical light. He hadn’t made Rico into a concept, but this song and the way he looked at his friend was enough for Spike to put his childish jealousy aside and enjoy the moment. His pencil flowed with the music and when the sad song stopped, with the two ex-lovers disappearing, Spike sat where he was and kept drawing.

The start of a @LovelyComplex & @BrutalBX Bromance

With a heavy heart, Rico returned to his perch in the corner following his conversation with Ellie. There was a very high possibility that he had just blown his shot with the girl he loved. He could’ve been a lesser man, he almost wished he was a lesser man; if he was she could’ve been in his arms by now. She had disappeared into the crowd and he had planted himself onto a box with old faithful in his arms; ready to sing some more sad songs.

Glancing at a mess of blonde hair that was sitting before him, Rico dampened the tip of his finger before strumming the strings of his guitar softly. ”If you’re going to paint me like one of your french girls Spike then at least let me keep my clothes on.”

“I can promise you,” Spike kept his deep blue eyes on his sketch and chuckled, “Your naked body has never crossed my mind.” He had enough guys in his head because of Minty. He didn’t need another one, especially one that is good at the one thing he isn’t. Being romantic. If you couldn’t tell, he never really thought before he talked. He just said shit and hoped the results would be in his favor.

The Mascot was surprised at how easy it was for him to capture Rico's personality, inner yearning, and visage. Maybe, he did spend more time than he realized staring at the man over the years. He didn’t even need to look up to know just how he smiled, how defined his eyebrows were, and how soft his gaze was whenever he focused on someone else. Fucking Rico. Suave as fuck. Stupidly charming.

“El Mariachi… Do you like that?” Spike glanced up at the guitarist to see if he got his approval or not, but realized he probably needed to give more context. “Your superhero name. Concept is you live for your job, traveling around to touch people’s hearts with your music. You want to live peacefully but where there is a beautiful sound that can make a god cry, there are enemies that want to steal your gifts away. But that’s the thing! You become stronger when you live and experience life. The more your heart feels, the stronger the song. You not only have the power to empower, or weaken, people with a song, but your empathetic voice can instill an emotion in a crowd, which may impact fate itself. When you get involved with your muse, a beacon, who stands for life, love, and light, you find a conviction to do more with your music…” His voice started to trail off as his eyes went back to the sketch pad. He shaded some parts of Rico’s face.

His concept for Rico was more fleshed out than it probably should’ve been. He had a whole story arc for him already. Divine inspiration was wild. Not many people knew about what Spike drew specifically but right now he just wanted someone to talk to and not hold anything back. He wanted to focus on someone else so he could forget his own problems. Plus, Ellie loved this suave musician. That meant something to Spike, seeing how she was one of the few people who knew why Spike drew and what he drew about.

“Jesús mi amigo...”

Rico was somewhat shocked at the amount of effort that Spike had put into his character. In four years the pair had barely spoken a word, the guitar man wasn’t exactly sure why as far as he was concerned Spike was a bit of an idiot but he was cool. Yet here he was, speaking to the troubadours soul with some sort of superhero type deal. “I love it.”

It was strange; Enrique had never considered Spike a friend, although in a different life perhaps he could, considering they were both thought of as some kind of fools for the school. He has always got the impression that the blonde haired mascot wasn’t his biggest fan and he wasn’t exactly sure why? Ellie knew the comic artist a lot better than he did and she had never mentioned anything.

“Why would you want me to be in your thing, hermano? Don’t you like, hate me?”

That makes sense why he would ask that. Spike had been so stubborn on crossing the bridge of friendship with Rico that he didn’t realize he was coming off as an asshole. It certainly wasn’t because he hated him. When Spike watched Rico, he saw a charm that he would never have. It went deeper than that though. Rico’s relationships had substance. Depth. A deep passion. The closest to that experience that the trailer boy had ever had was with Minty and people would define their relationship as toxic. More lows than highs. Both acting one way when they meant another. Their foundation was childish banter and lies. It was doomed to fail from the beginning.

“Nah it’s not like that. I’m just annoyed like 99 percent of the time that your game is better. I’ll admit I can be a bit of a child,” Spike spoke honestly. Glancing up here and there to get the fine details of Rico’s guitar, he shyly admitted, “I don’t just have friends in my story. The goal is to have a character for everyone that leaves an impact on me here at Rosefell, especially before I graduate. Heroes, anti heroes, and villains alike.”

Whether it is the Queen of Thorns or The Wall, they all add to the story in their own way and help Spike cope with his shitty reality. “I guess after hearing your song and seeing the way you looked at El… I just felt it. So I’m going where the inspo takes me.”

“I feel that, brother man.” Rico was taken aback by Spike’s honesty. He didn’t really think that the boy had this amount of depth about him. This was the most of the real Spike Langley he had seen in all his years in Rosefell; and he didn’t hate it. “I’m the same when it comes to my music. I just feel the flow, man. I listen to the world and let it penetrate my soul and permeate throughout the body until it leaves through the guitar.”

Shuffling off of his stool, El Mariachi moved down onto the floor next to Spike; nonchalantly playing a random tune. “You wanna hear a secret, Mascot? My game sucks. I mean I struck out with some babe earlier cos I dropped a line from fucking Hamilton,” Rico chuckled at the thought of his encounter with Billie earlier in the evening and how it had sent him into a Freako spiral. “I was lucky Ellie ever gave me the time of day and all the other ones? Brother, that's just confidence and being a fool for love.”

“Was it luck? You and El?” Momentarily, Spike put his pencil down and cracked his knuckles. He did take in the information that Rico wasn’t as good as he seemed in the romantic department and appreciated the sentiment that all it took was being confident, however Spike still had his doubts.

This was nice, though. His friends had been so caught up with themselves lately that Spike didn’t realize he needed someone to talk to.

“If love means you have to be lucky, then I’m fucking screwed...” Spike huffed to himself, almost protesting at the idea of love itself. If Rico glanced at the pad on Spike’s lap, he would notice El Mariachi staring up at the sky, his guitar hanging from its strap, as he offered a yellow flower up in the air. Instead of looking at the moon, he was looking at a brunette girl dressed in a black and blue suit, with a luminous aura around her. She was levitating and reaching for the flower.

This was Ellie’s first character costume which was focused on blending her in with the night. While Spike usually thought of yellow when it came to Eleanor, he knew at least for this snapshot moment he would keep it to a minimum so it didn’t take away from the night sky. So, the artist chose to express their love in the form of a yellow flower, which meant optimism, joy, and harmony. Hope especially. For a better tomorrow.

“I suppose in part it can be about luck,” Rico did indeed glance at Spike's drawing pad but chose not to say anything. If Spike was anything like him, he didn’t want anyone seeing his unfinished masterpiece just yet. It was rough but the visage was unmistakable, on his latest page was Ellie. Even in comic book form she still took his breath away. “We also had a shit ton of groundwork laid before we started dating. We were friends for years but not in a close sense. We just knew we had a lot in common, both being artists of a kind.”

The song and dance man mind took him back many months to a party not too dissimilar to this one. It was a rarity to see Ellie at such things alone without Lilith but there she was and she looked phenomenal. “Then there was this party, an underclassman thing so not many people were there but I was there with Hunter and shit, Ellie walked in wearing this red dress. The light just hit her in a way, it made my blood burn. Then it started to rain and everyone started rushing inside but I stood there and I played that damn guitar and sang to her. People were watching but I didn’t give a fuck and neither did she. Love was born that night and it was some kind of magic.”

Spike tried to recall the party that Rico had mentioned but time was a blur to him and at some point all the parties felt the same. He would’ve definitely noticed Ellie in a red dress. “Damn. I missed that. Probably taking care of my Paw-Paw or some shit.”

Still, regardless of what Ellie wore, she would stand out in a crowd. An understated beauty whose smile was blinding. Spike still didn’t know the reason why she gave him that moment, freshman year, but he wasn’t going to question it. They both had a bad night at a party and decided to make the other less lonely. The next day she made sure to put up clear boundaries between them, feeling some regret for succumbing to weakness.

Even so, that was fine because he knew what they had wasn’t this kind of love Rico was describing. A love similar to something Spike’s parents had. What he and Ellie had, it was a platonic kind of love and honestly? He wouldn’t trade that for the world. She was one of the few females he could act somewhat normal around and he wasn’t afraid to tell her days he wasn’t doing okay. Days he wanted to die. Joking all the time got tiring and she saw through his act.

“What… what happened between you two? If that’s okay to ask. One moment you guys are sitting on the school lawn together, being hella’ affectionate, and the next… well. It all stopped.”

This was weird; opening up to Spike Langley of all people but Rico thought he once heard Dee say a stranger is better than a friend and he was right. There was no judgment between the two of them in these moments they were sharing so speaking his truth may not actually be a bad thing. ”I fucked up is the simple answer,” He responded in a brief moment of despondency.

Enrique didn’t particularly want to relive his break up with Ellie. Even just seeing her tonight and being as close to her as he was just before his conversation with Spike was killing him softly. With a great sigh, he continued his story. ”I...with the music, there’s a certain lifestyle and I enjoy that lifestyle, a little too much I guess. It wasn’t fair to Ellie, I was getting fucked up a lot and she was always taking care of me and she deserved better.”

“Is that so...” Spike murmured, as he took in Rico’s truth. He didn’t frown. He didn’t smile. He simply stared at this stranger who wasn’t so different from him after all. Things are always beautiful until they mess them up. Grabbing his pencil once more, Spike slowly tapped it on his sketchpad, “Shit, love is fucking terrifying and you know what I think? I think she’ll wait for you, dude. What I saw wasn’t some lustful infatuation, like I’ve had with Minty. That was something real.” Why was Spike being so open and vulnerable to this kid? Was he that low that he didn’t have a filter? Or was it the alcohol that made his mouth a bit loose?

“Just be careful, man. If I could turn back time, I’d stop my mom from leaving to this stupid convention. There’s moments, I believe, that cause a ripple effect. If she hadn’t died, my dad wouldn’t have forgotten me. Like I always wondered, is love worth it? If there is so much hurt to it, why do we keep chasing it? When my dad finally got back to being a functioning human and realized in order to honor her was to take care of me... Well, he was gone too.”

Heh.

He hadn’t told anyone about his past like this. This was definitely weird, but he couldn’t hold back the emotions burning in his chest. “I guess hearing what you have to say… makes me realize love isn’t about what you get, but what you’re willing to give. And I’m going to keep rooting for you two because we’re all fucked up in our own way, but goddamit! You two belong together. And if there’s one thing I’d like to point out, it's that she's still there.” Ellie hadn’t moved on. Not really. If she wanted to try, she would’ve pulled a Minty and ghosted Rico.

Yet, she was still, in her own way, keeping an eye on him but at a distance. Whether it takes weeks, months, or years, Spike believed in their love story. It made him come to terms with being alone, without Minty, because if luck ever did knock on his door, he would find someone who loved him for him and he loved them for them. Someone who would push him to be a better version of himself, and he them, so they could be happy together. Spike decided if there was something that he’d believe in, it was happiness. Love was too foreign for him to understand. Nevertheless, that didn’t mean he was going to give up on those that have experienced it, like Ellie and Rico.

”Well, well.”

He really had no idea just how deep Spike actually was. The facade of the idiot was slowly slipping away and Rico began to feel a kinship with the mascot. With drink and drugs flowing throughout his system, there was a good chance that he probably wouldn’t remember most of this in the morning but that didn’t matter. Spike was opening his heart to Rico and the mariachi could feel every beat as if it was his own. ”I didn’t know you had any of this in you, hermano.”

The wheels began to turn in Rico’s head. There was a hidden tragedy behind the eyes of Rosefell’s resident court jester and it was a beautiful one. The longing and the feeling of hopelessness drifted around Spike, like a cloud of thoughtful smoke. Lyrics and rhythm began to take shape in his mind and his fingers began to idly strum the strings of the guitar. Instead of his normal flamenco Latin style, Enrique played a blues riff straight out of the south side of Chicago; the Mascot Blues.

Looking up from his axe, a vision and an idea. Turning back to Spike, Rico motioned with his head to a girl entering the garden through the back gate. She was absolutely stunning; with flowing auburn hair, a perfect pear shaped figure hidden beneath a shirt style dress. He felt like he had seen her around school that week; a Liberty for sure but maybe that’s what Spike needed to get over Minty; a different type of distraction.

”Your luck just changed Langley.”

Having zoned out the moment Rico started strumming another tune, Spike sighed in relief, as if this weight lifted off of his shoulders. He liked this tune. Felt like it was meant for him. No longer thinking about his past, Rico and Ellie’s love life, and the concept of love, Spike closed his eyes and rhythmically nodded to the music. It wasn’t long after Rico pointed out a girl in the garden.

Opening his eyes to have a look-see, Spike was stunned and taken aback. He already expected any girl from Liberty to be next level attractive. This whole week consisted of him flirting with them and failing terribly. But this girl, this girl was not trying to stand out and for some reason, it felt like she was something special to look at. Was it her smile or was it how clearly she seemed to look around like she was avoiding someone? Whatever it was, Spike knew he had to know a name.

Part of him felt like he always felt when he looked at someone from Liberty, she was out of his league. Another part of him wanted to take a chance and see if she would give him the time of night to just… be with him. If he could get a name he’d consider tonight not complete crap. Hesitantly, and already putting his sketchpad and pencil away in his backpack, the blonde, emotional goofball asked his new friend, “Should I just… go to her?”

”Absolutely,” Rico responded immediately. ”If I’ve learned anything after everything with Ellie it’s don’t pass up your chances, you may only get one” Putting down his guitar, the boy scanned the girl again, taking her in as he did everybody else, seeing her like a song. From a distance she certainly looked like an indie darling, a girl with soft features but a powerful voice just waiting to be heard but drowning in a sea of over the top characters. ”My advice? Cero Miedo, baby. No fear. Go to her, tell her she looks nice, politely and ask her if she wants a drink. Don’t need anything more than a smile my friend.”

Getting up to his feet, Enrique patted Spike on the shoulder and beamed at his new found confidant. ”She’s all yours brother.” He picked up the guitar and headed back into the house.

Marcos Kingsley & Ellie Roberts

Fed up.

Marcos Kingsley was fed up.

This merge was nothing but hell for him and now? Now he had to go to a party he didn’t want to be at to make sure no one touched his sister inappropriately. She was so lucky Christian was only a couple blocks away, which was nothing while riding his bike. If there was something Trixie would never fail at, it was being a self-serving, manipulative brat. On top of her sneaking out, which somehow he’ll get blamed for, her face was on someone’s story saying she’d skinny dip if she lost in a drinking contest.

Maintaining balance and control, while still seemingly defying gravity, Marcos increased his acceleration on his Street Triple R. Keenly aware of his morality, yet enjoying embracing his surroundings of the suburban heights of Columbus and all the senses that riding a motorcycle invokes, the prideful Lion moved his body with the machine, leaning when he needed to.

There was a visceral physical pleasure whenever he took the moment to go out, just him and his bike. The wind rushing through, over, and around him, and how much he had to put his hands and feet to work was addictive. There have been many weekend days he spent just riding around all day and only thinking about his journey on the road. If he could ride his bike and leave all his issues behind, he would, but then his parents would give him grief, making him feel like he was irresponsible, aimless, and careless. A Kingsley had to keep their image, their reputation, and their future in mind always. If they didn’t, they risk disgracing their family name.

Thinking about all the things that went wrong this week, like Colin starting unnecessary drama because he can’t get over the fact that they grew apart or Marcos running into all the exes he hurt in middle school, wasn’t worth his time and energy. He changed and whether people believe that or not was their own prerogative. The soccer player wasn’t going to lose sleep because people can’t get over themselves. Their grudges are their own obstacles. He was here to graduate and leave this all behind him. The prospect of him enjoying his senior year was growing more bleak by the minute.

Finally arriving and pulling up in Christian’s driveway, Marcos pulled off his helmet to meet the eyes of people sitting in the front having an intimate conversation and drinking out of red cups. The guy didn’t know he was, but the girl’s eyes widened, “Marcos?! You came!”

“Yeah,” He acknowledged while securing his bike in place and fastening his helmet. Instead of striking up a conversation, he let their voices drown out in the background, as he went through the side gate to get to the party. He had never been to Christian’s house because they weren’t necessarily friends, especially after the whole player phase Marcos went through. The jock didn’t want to assume his sister was inside or outside even if ten minutes ago she was inside. Worst case, he could ask around and try to leave as quietly as he entered.

That, of course, was hopeful thinking. The second Marcos found himself in the backyard, by the bouncy house, the flock of thirsty drunk girls were quick to make their move. Some knowing him and some just seeing a very, very hot guy.

“Who’s that?” Sitting on a lounge chair, by the bonfire, a strawberry blonde with kittenish eyes surveyed the new addition to the party. Taking a sip of her cranberry vodka, she leaned back in her seat and shook her head, “No one has the right to be that fucking fine.”

The girl beside her, with glasses and braids, rolled her eyes at her friend and unethustically commented, “Marcos Kingsley. One of three golden boys. You remember Aiden? Yeah, the one over there. They’re best friends. Yeah, yeah, yeah I know. Fucking fine as hell. Well, they’re assholes. The third golden boy was the only reason why most of us could tolerate them, but now he’s gone. If you knew these two in middle school, they were trouble. I’d suggest staying away. Who knows how he’ll be without Richie!”

How unfun. “I like trouble,” The Rosefell cheerleader protested, twirling her hair as she watched the man candy walk around, searching for something. “I’m going to say hi.”

“Do what you want, but you can’t say I warned you,” the Liberty High theater kid aggressively took a bite out of her smores, watching her new friend be stupid and try to flirt with the lost cause.

Stopping in his tracks, Marcos found his path blocked with a girl with a bikini top on and a skirt. With clear intentions in her eyes, she stepped forward and introduced herself, “Hey handsome, my name is Paris. Where are you going in such a rush?”

This was his curse. Inhaling in, exhaling out, Marcos replied with a fake, yet charming smile, “Hey Paris, cute name,” He didn’t want to get a girl mad already, but he wasn’t here to flirt. He was here to get his sister and leave. “I’d love to chat but real talk, I’m just here to find my sister, so excuse me.” The stranger tried her best to put her body against his chest and coerherce him to forget his task, but Marcos was not having it. He was here for one thing and one thing only. No thot could stop him.

Pretending to give in, Marcos leaned into her body and placed his hand on her chin, bringing it up for her to look at him. This move ended up startling her, because seeing him up this close and personal was more than she could handle. Stumbling back, Paris accidentally bumped into a group behind her. The person she walked into dropped their drink on the floor. By the time she apologized and went to look back at the jock, composed and ready, pushing the itch away, in the back of her mind, he was gone.

Where the hell did he go?

Sighing, relieved he got away, Marcos walked by the pool and continued his search there. This party was more busy than the stories on social media gave credit for. After being here for a couple of minutes, he already knew he wanted to go home. The peacefulness of the living room was more welcomed than the chaos of the first party of the year. Gradually turning his head to the water, he fished around, surveying faces.

Ellie found herself propped up against the fence, shoes discarded next to her and toes digging into the plush green grass as she nursed the joint in between her thumb and index finger. Something about being under the influence heightened every other sensation and at the current moment nothing was more satisfying than her bare feet feeling the rich soil underneath her. She breathed out large puffs of smoke whilst the rest of the party moved on around her.

As her eyes grew more red and brain grew more foggy, she tried to mask out the emotions that seemed to front in her brain as a result of her interaction with Rico. Anger, sadness, frustration, longing- all unresolved feelings that came on in waves every time she saw his face. The weed could only dull so much of her grief, so she let her eyes search for a distraction, anything to brighten her mood.

This alleviation came in the form of a tall, dark, and handsome male who strutted into the party clearly attempting to find someone or something. Ellie was too oblivious to notice his intentions, and was simply excited to see Marcos arrive. With a giddy smile and laugh, she clamored to her feet and called out his name across the pool. “Marcos! Marcos you made it!” The brunette waved.

Before the ungodly hot son of the junior senator of Ohio could find his ex and Theo Van Cise in the pool, his attention was ripped from the turquoise water to a Sunflower beaming at him. Ellie! Probably the only good thing about Rosefell was this girl right here. Boy was he glad to see her in a crowd of strangers, enemies, and nobodies.

With not a second to waste, he strode to the otherside of the pool where she was, “Yeah, I guess I did.” When he was inches away from her, he surveyed her mannerism, outfit, and expression, and immediately picked up the scent of weed off of her. This wasn’t something he expected from her, but he didn’t hate it. It was just a different take on the adorable Ellie Roberts.

Smiling at her, the hard exterior dropping in the presence of this ray of sunshine, Marco laughed, “I can see you’re having a good time. If there’s anyone that deserves a break, it’s definitely you. And—” His hand gestured to her display, “— you look great, El.” His dark gaze did get carried away, distracted by her midriff, but he was quick to not let that linger, out of respect for his friend. “Trying to impress anyone?” He coolly teased.

The brunette blew a raspberry with her lips, rolling her eyes before emitting a giggle. “Oh please, I just threw this on because Lil told me I should.” Ellie replied, not noticing the death stares and glares she was getting from the envious belles of Liberty and Rosefell. “I am having a good time though!... Well, mostly.” She corrected herself before motioning Marcos to come closer, whispering to him quietly “This is my first time getting high, you know. It’s weird, but I like it.”

It was in this moment that Marcos put the search for his sister in the back of his mind, completely engrossed in how cute Ellie was acting. Even when she brought up his ex, he didn’t seem bothered by it because she was just so captivating in this light. Ellie was naturally a delight, but with the weight of the world off her shoulders and her acting so free and in the moment, the grumpy jock found himself chuckling with her. He couldn’t handle her like this. She was just so goddamn cute. Her usual optimism he found so attractive and interesting was cranked up to ten. He was weak to this artsy, klutzy, and accepting dork.

Marcos Kingsley felt a burning sensation he hadn’t felt for years. Actually, the last time he was this intrigued was with Lilith. Looking around at the jealous girls surrounding them, the jock devilishly smirked. Maybe it was a good idea for him to come to this party. Glancing at her, with their faces inches away, watching her pull away, Marcos smugged, “Is that so? Well if you like it, then you should keep at it.” Not wanting to fully enable her, he playfully poked her nose, “But in moderation, okay? Or you’ll be seeing my face a lot more,” he flirtatiously winked.

Heat struck Ellie’s cheeks, a rosy-ness appearing across her features that complemented her freckles. It was quite common for her to get flustered in the presence of those she admired, quite possibly moreso whilst under the influence, and she’d be lying if she didn’t admit that she liked Marcos just a smidge. She vividly remembered the first day he walked into the Yellow Rose Diner and knew that his chiseled face would be one that she would soon not forget. “Don’t worry, I will. Scout’s honor.” She saluted playfully, “I wouldn’t mind seeing your face more though, you’ve rarely showed up at the diner lately...” Ellie commented, jutting out her lower lip pouting. “Who else am I going to give free milkshakes to?”

Deceased.

Was Eleanor Roberts flirting back? If she was, Marcos was feeling it and if he continued thinking what he was thinking, this probably would result in something they’d both regret. Not letting his imagination get carried away too much, Marcos laughed, “Hey, I’m sure there’s plenty of boys out there that want a taste of your milkshake.” Did he actually just say that? A genuine, sweet blush washed over him. The Golden Boy was quick to divert the girl’s attention to a small group playing with a giant jenga set, “Oh look, drunk jenga. Want to play?”

Like a puppy that had just seen a squirrel, Ellie’s gaze immediately followed over to their classmates huddled in the corner laughing and cheering. That looked like fun! The brunette nodded vigorously, “Ooh yes, let’s go!” quickly grabbing hold of Marcos’ muscular arm and pulling him towards the game.

Nik had successfully convinced their sister to go to the party at Christian’s place without them. Despite the negative emotions surrounding Wade’s rejection of them… and the heated moment with Caspian about what he claimed he couldn’t remember saying… Niki had gotten good at hiding their emotions. Therapy might not be teaching them to be happy, exactly, but it was teaching them to put on a happy face. Because of that, Alina believed Niki when they said that their reason for not going to the party themself was because of stomach issues.

It wasn’t that they were avoiding seeing Wade or anything...
... or Hunter, rather.

So why was it that Niki found themself lying on their bed staring at the ceiling wishing they were? Seeing him, that is. Nik rolled over onto their side and scrolled through the instagram DM’s with Wade that only a week ago they had cherished — finger hovering over the send button on a message that they had typed and re-written what seemed like a thousand times. And tonight, just like every other time, Nik erased it into oblivion without sending and tossed the phone aside.

Their lips blew a raspberry as Niki sighed and once again contemplated the intricacies of their bedroom ceiling. Rejection stung deep. Nik was so sick of rejection… bullies, themself, the world, and now WaHunter too. There was a tiny rational part of Niki’s mind that was screaming to not take this so personally, that maybe, just maybe, Hunter’s reaction had nothing to do with Niki… but with himself. But that rational voice was buried under years of trauma and self hatred, and once again, Niki felt like they were drowning in it.

The familiar sting of tears welling up caused Nik to snap their eyes shut. “NO!” they yelled to themself and rubbed at their eyes. “No, we are not fucking crying alone in my pillows again.” Niki pushed themself out of the bed forcefully and strutted over to the window. Sliding it open, they lit up a cigarette and took a long drag.

Flicking the ashes into their secret “stashtray” Nik weighed their options. Perhaps, the problem was that Wade was used to the Niki he saw on Instagram. Feminine… confident… open. Niki was the opposite of that at school, where they tried so hard to be a wallflower. Maybe… if Niki could bring that to the version of themself to life… then maybe that would fix the empty pit that they felt in their stomach. The pit that used to be filled with romantic butterflies.

“Okay… Yeah… We’re doing this.” Nik punctuated the declaration by stabbing out the cigarette butt and hiding their smoke stash away once again. Alina had left about a half hour ago, and the party was probably already well underway. Nik had no idea how long parties like this lasted, but surely if they got ready in like… thirty minutes, they could make it in time to be fashionably late? Hopefully fashionable, at least.

“Okay. Hot girl shit. Hot girl shit.” Nik clapped their hands together and scanned their closet for options. What was sexy but not too sexy? Revealing enough to tempt Wade, but not enough that it showed their scars. And then there was the added layer that this party was glow themed. Black should work for that, just cover it in glow paint for contrast, right?

After a few moments of contemplation, Niki selected a black bralette, and black cutoff shorts with a thin leather belt. Paired together, the outfit showed off Niki’s slim midsection, which wasn’t necessarily healthily obtained, but it was what it was. A nude jacket to cover their arms and black thigh-high boots to vamp up the sexiness polished off the outfit. There wasn’t enough time to properly do their hair, so Niki did their best to channel Ariana Grande vibes with a sleek high pony. As for makeup, Niki kept it simple but sultry — a highlighted natural base with freshly-bitten glossy lip color and smoked out winged eyeliner.

A pair of hoop earrings and a purse borrowed from Alina’s closet finished the look. Niki didn’t own any purses yet, because they never actually left the house dressed up like this. This would be the first time since that day they had worn makeup and a dress to middle school and… well, that had went horribly. Trying their best to ignore their churning stomach as they ordered an Uber, Niki instead focused on the positive that might come of taking this risk. That they might reach the Wade within Hunter… if he was even at the party, that is.

The car ride to Christian’s place was excruciating. Niki’s anxiety was in full force and they contemplated the possibility of survival if they were to just open up the door and bail out on the highway. Nik was counting on weekend night traffic to give them time to prepare, but the Uber arrived at the destination sooner than expected. Shit. Niki thought as they stared up at the foreboding McMansion until the driver politely informed them that this was the address. A.k.a., get the fuck out of the car, weirdo.

“Oh, sorry, thanks. Five stars.” Nik laughed awkwardly and gestured with the phone before hopping out. Their heeled boots ominously clicked against the sidewalk as Niki approached the front door. Loud music was audible even from this distance, and it seemed that the party was just as much out in the backyard as it was inside the house. With a deep breath, Niki opened the front door and froze in the door frame like a deer caught in headlights.

Oh, fuck, what am I doing here?!

After some more waiting, Cade got his elusive burger. He thanked Spike with a nod and moved on with his life since the little group had desolved anyway- Spike himself tapped out a few orders later. The good news for Cade though, the burger was as good as advertised. Like, seriously great. They had probably put drugs in the thing.

He felt pretty tempted to go join the fight with the Liberty assholes that was breaking out, but the risk of losing his food if chaos erupted seemed too much, and there was timely intervention anyway that prevented anything other than arguing from happening. And to be honest, other than getting substances in his system, the night had mostly served to humanize former Liberty students in his eyes- which admittedly was still a work in progress.

After getting through the XL burger it was time for the main event of the evening; getting completely blacked out and waking up like three days later. Blindly pushing through people making out or dancing or whatever he went to the well-established booze table to grab the most expensive looking bottle possible. Without even checking he chugged quite a bit. Whiskey, and pretty fucking good. Maybe also a bit too strong for how already drunk he had been but that was very much not something he was concerned about. He was more concerned with finding a place to crash or harrassing the DJ for their choices because his drunk mode was just him being extra insufferable more than anything else.

”You’re really going to stand there and act like you aren’t flirting with your Tramp of Choice?”

Nicholas rolled his eyes at his sister, not reacting either way to her comments about the breathtaking girl he chose to spend his time talking with. "First off, that wasn't very polite of you, Billie," Nicholas stated. He smirked at her with the full knowledge that he knew that she hated being called anything other than Billie Jean.

But then she came at him with a zinger. Oh what a wonderful observation she made: saying he had chosen below what he was worth as if she chose absolute winners. But Nicholas wasn't as jaded as his sister was. Nicholas wasn't the type to use those she chose to spend her night with against her. This was because Nicholas Grey was a well-mannered young man. This was because Nicholas Grey didn't antagonize. Most importantly, though, Nicholas Grey was having too much fun doing the bare minimum and he still managed to receive exactly what he wanted.

So as he watched his sister made "I'm going to murder this bitch" eyes at the remarkably cute redhead, a low, surprised "oh" left his lips as she snapped back at his sister.

Normally, he would be up in arms to go to his sister's defense.

Yes, normally Nicholas wouldn't be the idle observer role he was playing right now. He hated to admit it, but Billie Jean did have a solid point she raised earlier. Whenever he did turn up the charm and intended to seduce any redhead, he favored them over everyone else. But there was more to that right now.

As he listened and watched, he contemplated what he should do. What would have been a simple matter of him talking his sister down off the ledge she was committing in pushing them both off, when the object of his attraction so accurately stated her opinion, he found himself conflicted. He wanted to see this to the end, but in doing so would create complications. His sister wasn't the type to quickly forgive. Even if the person she was to hold a grudge over is her twin brother. On the other side, she's certainly overreacting and being dramatic just because she wants attention.

What to do? What to do?

Nicholas pondered for a few moments. And when he was finished, he stepped between the both of them. "That's quite enough." He glanced at his sister. "Relax, Billie Jean. It's not like before." Oh, it totally was, but he wasn't about to let her know that. He wanted to see where this went with her before he tested the waters. "Besides, why fight when we can drink?" He laughed and kept his eyes on his sister. "Or, in the middle of your rage, did suddenly decide you hate drinking more than whoever I take an interest in?"

A @HaleyTheRandom, @NeoAJ, and @metanoia Collaboration
Featuring Raven, Alina, and Hunter

______________________________________________________
______________________________________________________
______________________________________________________

Seeing Theo had clearly shaken Raven.

Completely floored by the thoughts running through her head, and the feelings coursing through her veins, Raven did her best to focus on Alina’s caring gesture. Standing there with her bottle of tequila in hand, Raven did her best to breathe.

Deep breath in, deep breath out. You’re fine. You’re fine. You’re fine.

Eyes darting back and forth between Alina, Hunter, and the crowd that was quickly forming near them, Raven felt her chest tighten even more. Forcing a smile, Raven reached for a few more items from the array of party favors.

”C’mon kids. Grab what you need and lets get the fuck out of here. I have an idea.”

Alina nodded and looked over at Hunter. She didn’t exactly know what she needed from this assortment of bottles but there had to be something that worked. She grabbed something she recognized as Sprite and something she didn’t recognize but hoped it was some sort of hard liquor in order to follow after her savior that needed saving. As well as a cup. Jumping to straight booze sounded like a bad plan. “You heard the lady. Take some things you think we’ll like and we’ll take this somewhere else.”

Hunter wasn’t often the first one to play follow the leader. Growing up, he led people into bad decisions, not allowed himself to get bossed around. But this wasn’t like being picked in his childhood by the neighborhood bully, Elijah Berg for being too small. Raven was nearly a foot shorter and she didn’t seem all bad, so Hunter wasn’t worried one bit.

As he grabbed a few unopened bottles of Jack Daniels and his twin cousins, Captain Morgan, Hunter also managed to snag a 2-liter of coke under his long arms. He followed the two girls away from the beverage station, away from the chaos of the party. Even as they went further away, Hunter heard the party getting louder behind him. He had half a mind to turn around, but he didn’t. He thought that whatever was happening back there wasn’t his top priority.

“So where are we heading?” Hunter asked, struggling somewhat to maintain a secured grip on all the bottles and liters in both of his hands.

Head held high as she led her Merry Band of Misfits, Raven was careful not to pay too close attention to what was going on around her. Afraid that she’d spot Theo once more, she kept her focus on the task at hand.

”The lake,” she simply stated. ”The Bakers have one in their backyard.” Both Raven and Alina had been to the Bakers’ house multiple times, and Raven had actually had the chance to get to know Christian’s parents. The young woman knew the layout of the Bakers property probably better than she did her own.

”I’m thinking twenty-one questions. Any other ideas? Objections?”

Alina looked at Raven, who she knew wouldn’t be the type to tee her up in such a game, but would be willing to scope out this new boy pretty quickly. “Yeah, I think I can handle it. Take a drink every time one of us laughs at an answer or something?” She turned her gaze back at Hunter. “Sound fair?”

Hunter gave a laugh, but then shrugged. “Sure. Why the hell not?” Another shrug. “It’s been way too long since I’ve played it. And, really, how could I say no when with beauts like you two?” Hunter knew Rico would have been proud of him for that one, which was probably why he found himself smirking like that crazy Spanish Casanova.

Still walking in the direction of the lake, Raven smirked as she listened to the two people behind her talk. It wasn’t a very long walk to the lake, but there was enough distance between them and the party to where Raven felt like she could take a breather. Not that many people were over by the lake, and the ones that were there were spaced out. Taking a seat at one of the picnic tables by the edge of the water, Raven sat down and took another drink of her tequila.

”So who’s up first? My vote is for Hunter.” As both Hunter and Alina looked at her and each other, the dark haired girl shrugged her shoulders. ”I mean, he’s the only guy here, so it made sense in my head?”

“Makes sense to me,” Alina confirmed, as she started to pour her acquired liquids into the red solo cup she held tightly to the table. She was no mixologist so her ratio of Sprite to… not Sprite, looked to be a bit off in favor of the not-so-bubbly drink. “Democracy rules, Hunter. Start us off.”

“Democracy, huh?” Hunter muttered in a breath, smirking at the two girls as he would take a preliminary sip of the bottle of whiskey in his hand.

He noted that the two girls each had their own poison. Raven opted for tequila. A solid choice for her sudden shift in mood. Earlier, Hunter had noticed she was on edge but still relaxed, if that made any sense. But something happened. Hunter wasn’t sure if she saw someone she didn’t want to see or if she just didn’t like him. He wanted to say she wasn’t against him and Alina talking. But who the hell knew, right?

And speaking of Alina, she stuck to her guns: Red Solo Cup Surprise. Anything could be in there and the thought made Hunter crack up in a chuckle.

“All right. Since it’s clear ladies first doesn’t apply, Raven!” Hunter’s dark eyes fixated on her, though relaxed mostly. “Since you’re the one who took us on this journey and even decided the game, what is your honest opinion of me? And no, Alina, don’t say anything about how sexy I am, because I know I am.” On some level, Hunter could just hear the two sets of eyes rolling after he stated that, but he stuck to it with a proud smirk. “So go on. I’m dying to know. Really, I am.”

Introducing more officially: Bronwyn Van Cise
@BrutalBX & @LovelyComplex

Bold.

Bold was not often, if ever at all, a word used to describe Bronwyn Van Cise.

Compared to the likes of her compatriots Trixie and Liv; who were absolute bombshells in every sense of the word, Wynn was just there chubby ginger friend with the super popular brother...at least that’s what she was in her own mind.

Yet tonight, she was being just that; Bold.

Theo had forbidden her from attending Christian’s party. Wynn knew that in his own twisted type of Theo way, her big brother was just trying to protect her. Still, when he threatened to lock her in the closet, knowing full well that her claustrophobia is dire, it didn’t always feel like it. She was “sensitive” and “fragile” or at least that’s what their parents liked to label her as and that pissed her off to no end. It was her Junior year, if she couldn’t experience life now what was the point of it all anyway?

Disobeying her parents was not a new thing for Bronwyn but disobeying Theo? That left her feeling terrified. That said and was not going to let life pass her by. She missed a good chunk of her sophomore year being in the hospital and this year was not going to be a repeat of that; not if she could help it. The thrill of it all was probably why she stole one of her brother's more expensive shirts, tied a belt around it and made it into the dress she wore tonight. Showing skin like this wasn’t the norm for her unless she was on the ice. Her nerves were almost shot and she wished to God that she was skating at that moment, at least there she was centred. Entering the party late, doing her best to avoid her brother left Wynn feeling so off balance.

She entered the party through the garden, partly because it was quicker to get from her house to Christians that way but also because in her infinite wisdom Bronwyn thought there was less of a chance for Theo to see her. The music coming from the house was loud and banging and certainly not her bop but in the garden she could hear the soft strums of a guitar in a flamenco style and this she liked; this she could dance or skate to. Wynn wasn’t sure where the sound was coming from but she was following it regardless. She hoped maybe it would lead her to a friendly face that could save her from the crippling anxiety that was eating her from the inside out.

As Rico played another song, Spike was marching his way to the girl coming from the garden. The closer he got, the more nervous he felt. Why was he nervous? He approached girls all the time. What made this time different? Was it because he just opened up his soul to a stranger? Yeah, likely. Regardless! He got this. This was totally fine. He’ll rock it. Replaying El Mariachi’s words in his head, over and over, especially the part of being polite, the mascot tried to figure out ways to go above and beyond with this dove-like girl.

Maybe it was the spanish guitar music that was playing in the background or maybe it was because he was an idiot, whatever it was, Spike came to the decision to break a rose off a bush. Not so gracefully and even “fuck” pricking his finger on a thorn, he tugged at the flower, with a goal in mind, which was to make this girl smile or laugh. If he impresses her, even better! When he finally did have a flower in his hand, with a little stem, he dramatically acted like he knew how to move and groove to this type of music. Prancing his way to her, following the rhythm to the best of his abilities, the blonde boy put the stem in his mouth and even clapped to the beats, as if he had the suave of Enrique Iglesias.

Stopping her in her tracks, he took the flower out of his lips and broke another piece of the stem off because his mouth was on it and he doubted she wanted to touch that part because it was gross. The flower, with hardly any stem left, was then given to the girl as an offering. He held his hands out for her to grab it, even dropping to one knee. For some reason he thought that added a nice touch, but probably looked pretty dumb to any witnesses.

Then came the hard part.

The polite compliment.

He wasn’t clever enough to remember what Tuxedo Mask said a couple days ago when he was handing a bunch of Liberty girls fake roses. There were so many things Spike could say like ‘girl, you’re burning red hot like this rose and I want to open you up’, or maybe a poem like, ‘roses are red, violets are blue, I have five fingers, but tonight you’ll get two’. Those types of lines were getting convoluted with actual nice compliments like ‘you have a pretty smile, I hope that isn’t creepy of me to say’ or ‘do you need company? If not, that’s fine, but still take this rose because you’re cute’. His brain ended up malfunctioning, especially once he saw her face clearly under both the moonlight and garden lights. After a long awkward moment of gawking, with the rose lifted up to her, the first words the Mascot muttered to the pretty girl were, “Beautiful… rose?”

Okay. That’s the best he was doing so shaking his head, snapping out of whatever confusion he was going through, getting back to his hyperactive self, he quickly and speedily added, “...thirsty?”

"Absolutely!”

For Bronwyn, tonight was all about taking chances and doing something that wasn’t expected of her. Damn if she was going to live her life! This boy was cute and he seemed harmless; a fool of a boy based on initial interaction but if the roles were reversed, Wynn doubted she could do any better when approaching someone.

Watching from his perch as Spike probably fucked it all up, Rico switched up his song in aid of his new found friend. If Langley knew his shit, he’d know what he was trying to accomplish

”With auburn hair and tawny eyes
The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through...”

She took the rose from the boy and stuck it behind her ear as best she could, brushing back her auburn locks as she did so. "Thank you for this, handsome.” Her eyes scanned once again for her brother but she didn’t see him and she began to breathe a little easier. Wynn returned her attention to her new friend. The look on his somewhat dopey face reminded her of the family dog, Bigby. He was a slobbering great Rottweiler that thought he was a lapdog. Even when he was a nightmare, Bigby had the big eyes and the stupid fucking smile that made you just say Aaawww and so did this kid.

Bronwyn smiled brightly at the blonde boy "Some pretty sweet moves you got there, for a minute I thought you were doing a Kamen Rider pose”. Immediately she regretted opening her mouth. Behind the prim and proper facade, Wynn held a deep love of all things nerd. Her room was littered with comic books, manga and anime. She loved to listen to the Dawn Patrol and Midnight Frequency podcasts on repeat and she always tried to incorporate a little cosplay into her dance outfits. This cute guy was taking the time to talk to her and already she probably had fucked it; great job Van Cise.

Not only did she NOT fuck it up. Spike was stunned at how well she received him, better than most girls, better than Minty, and then when she revealed her interests his jaw dropped. It was all over now. Standing up, now peering down at her instead of looking up, he couldn’t contain his inner geek. Breathing in deeply, he then dramatically shouted, “SAYOKOOooOOooOoooo!!!” In this moment, it was clear that the mascot really didn’t give a fuck about what people thought of him. He did, said, and acted the way he wanted, which made him endearing to a lot of people at his school.

Excited now with this sudden new development, he finally introduced himself, “Spike Langley at your service this evening, if you don’t mind following me, we can get you something nice to drink.” As they walked, he laughed out loud, “Didn’t think someone at Liberty would know something like Kamen Rider. Jeez, that brings me back.”

“My brother had a phase in middle school, I followed suit and just never grew out of it.” She giggled as she followed him. Now she had to decide how honest she wanted to be. Wynn could lie, just in case he knew Theo but that wasn’t being the bold badass bitch she had initially planned on being. She didn’t know this boy from Adam, so at best she had to assume he was from Rosefell. He said his name was Spike; of course it was, a simpler name would not suit such an animated character. "I’m Bronwyn, by the way or you can just call me Wynn, my name is kind of old.”

Conscious of the small girl trailing beside him, he glanced over to see her embarrassed (and nervous?) face, especially the more the party started revealing itself. He smiled when she gave him his name. Bronwyn. Wynn. He’d remember that. Without much thought, Spike offered his hand to see if she would be okay with grabbing it, “If this is too forward, just slap it away. Big parties can be kind of a lot to deal with,” this was a strange interaction for him because he didn’t find his eyes trailing down her body nor did he think any perverted thoughts.

Bronwyn didn’t have to think about it; as soon as the hand was offered she entwined her fingers with his. She began to wonder if she had bitten off more than she could chew. Theo had warned her she wasn’t ready for this but she just had to fight back. "Thank you.”

Somehow, Spike found it in him to push all his bad habits aside to make her feel comfortable and safe. She was very attractive but… the way she held herself and how she smiled, he found himself able to connect with her naturally with no motive beside getting to know her. Maybe it was because she was a dork like him or maybe it’s because she didn’t immediately shut him out. Regardless of the reason, he would accept this rarity and fly with it.

"If it’s ok with you, Spike; when we get a drink can we come back out here? It’s a lot quieter here and inside seems like a lot.”

“Whatever you want.” Spike gleamed as he found an open path for them to walk with minimal squeezing in between people. “Sounds like a perfect night, honestly. Drinks, snacks, flowers, and good conversation.” After this kind of week, he welcomed the calm. A party like this might’ve been too soon for him to go to since most of his memories at parties involved chasing Minty. Plus, since he lived at a trailer park, it was usually calm. Chill. The best kind of vibe. For the most part.

Walking past the pool, unintentionally masking Wyn from the water, Spike added, “So you just got one brother? I’m an only child so the closest to siblings I got are my boys. They’re.... somewhere here.”

"I have an older sister too… The timid girl began as she followed the path Spike had laid out before her. "She’s a bit older actually. She’s training to be a doctor, my family don’t really talk to her though. Drama, you know?” Wynn was unashamed of anything involving her family, or was a Van Cise trait to be able to switch off their emotions when needed; sometimes it came in handy. "My brother though, well he’s a senior and well...he is what he is. Anyway, tell me about these Boys? Are they all as cool as you?”

“Oh Wynn, you don’t even know!” Spike enthusiastically cheered, tightening his hold on her soft hand. Spending the next seconds speedily geeking out about his friends, he chuckled, “Dee, DeShawn. He’s kinda the one that gets us dumbasses straight. He’s someone you want to be tight with because he’ll have your back no matter what. He’s our linebacker! Maybe one day you’ll see him play.” Regardless of the messes Dee may find himself in, that may pull him to the part of him he doesn’t like, he was the best of them all. Spike would follow him, in rain or fire, no matter what.

The thought of a linebacker sent a shiver down Bronwyn’s spine. Theo was a linebacker back when they were at Liberty. Now that they were at Rosefell, she knew that, at least in her brothers mind, there would only be room for one heavy hitter on the Knights team and if Theo had anything to say about it, it would be him. Her heart went out to this DeShawn kid, the way Spike spoke of him, it seemed like he was a good guy. He probably didn’t deserve the torture that her sibling would no doubt inflict upon him. That was just his way.

“There’s my best man, if I ever do get married. Hunter. He got fucking issues and we probably fight more than we laugh. But, at the end of the day, we both can be real with one another, say how we feel, you know? He definitely isn’t for everyone but I know the Hunter no one really knows, so I’ll always make sure he’s heard.” Yeah, Spike and Hunter had a complicated relationship. It escalated when Hunter slept with Minty. Still, bros before hoes and Spike would gladly say he sees the softer side in his friend. The part in Hunter he tried to hide from others, Spike saw it and was going to protect it, even if he had to be a meat shield or a punching bag for the rest of his life.

When they entered the chaos that was inside Christian’s house, with what seemed to be the end of a fight and everyone was wet, Spike pulled Wyn close to him, keeping an eye on his surroundings and making sure there were no touchy people around them. Using his body as a protective wall for the small girl, he continued, this time raising his voice because of the loud music, “There’s also my boy JJ. JayVaugn. Wide receiver. Pretty chill, pretty goofy, definitely a flirt. But without him, I probably would really suck at talking to girls. Like, this is surprising to me! You really don’t seem uncomfortable even though I keep rambling. Maybe his lessons are doing their magic. I can’t give him all the credit though seeing how I got a new guitarist friend, who was playing that sweet music by the garden. One day Rico is going to be famous, let me tell you.”

Bronwyn appreciated the way that Spike was very obviously protecting her. She had been to parties before but normally she was with the girls and most of the time with Theo’s permission because she was with the girls. It was her belief that he thought that people would be attracted to them, so they’d just ignore Wynn and more often than not, he was right. "I like your rambling. Silence is a scary sound.” As the boy mentioned the guitar playing in the garden, her smile began to shine just that little bit brighter. "He did seem really talented!” She called over the loud music just as they reached one of the drinks tables.

She eyed the many different beverages on display and for a moment or two was at a loss. Bronwyn would never describe herself as a big drinker, if anything she was very much a lightweight. However she didn’t want to appear as a novice to her new friend so Wynn let her mind drift slightly to try and think of a drink she knew she could mix and handle. She remembered her mother’s favorite drink, a 7&7 and thought that it might just be perfect. Grabbing a solo cup, she filled it with ice and a very small splash of whiskey before filling it to the brim with 7-Up. There, she wouldn’t look too stupid now would she?

Before she began to speak again, the dancer noted a crushed up book in Spike’s pocket. The little art work she could see was very obviously of a comic book style and her nerd heart began to flutter. ”You’re gonna take me somewhere quiet and tell me all about that doodle boom right?” Her voice was a mix of frenetic energy and nerves. She wanted to know what he was drawing but she also wanted to get out of there before the Franchise saw her.

With the mention of his sketchbook, Spike had almost forgotten he had a backpack on and a rolled up sketchbook in his pant’s pocket. Guess his mind got carried away when he was too excited to approach the girl. Thank god it was dark in here with flashy strobes and glowy shit or his new companion would see his cheeks heating. Fixing himself up a quick screwdriver, he gave her a thumbs up. He was happy she avoided the punch. He had no doubt someone spiked it, to dangerous alcohol poisoning levels. “Uh, yeah, sure… but like, don’t laugh at me, okay?” It was clear that Spike didn’t usually show his art to someone right away and he was a bit shy about it. He knew he was good… better than most people, yet he still had butterflies in his stomach when people asked. With her, he felt like she would like what she saw and not judge him for using his classmates as his material.

"How could I laugh at the coolest guy in the room?” Bronwyn hooked her arm around Spike’s and continued to beam at him like the pure ray of sunshine that she was. "Ok Space Cowboy; let’s carry that weight and let’s head off into the stars” Mustering up all of her courage and nerdiness, Wynn took a deep breath and stepped forward into the unknown with the strange enigma that had become her dance partner for this nights journey.

"I'll take those shots now."

——————————————————
Christian's House

Jackson rubbed his head as he laid on the floor, he truly felt like he was not going to get up from the beating he just received. He blinked a few times to see if he was hallucinating or is that big guy really going to hit him with a chair leg. He was ready to accept that he may not be coming home that night, but someone soon stopped Dee from going any further and Jackson was filled with relief. He sat up and placed his arms on his knees, rubbing his forehead since the pain from the pain now slowly started creeping in.

"Fuck me..." He muttered to himself pushing himself back to lean against what looked like a couch, he leaned his head back on the cushion for a moment before suddenly being rained on by a mist of water, his hair and shoulders were drench and soon he had to brush his hair back just to even see. He moved his hand to his eye and felt a stinging pain as soon as he did, that is absolutely going to be a black eye. He sighed and pushed himself up, he could not exactly see how Miki was doing, before he could even check it out, he heard a familiar voice echo through the house. Trixie.

He walked towards the sound of her voice with some difficulty and listened to hear speak about a drink off. Honestly, he just wanted to get shit faced right about now to forget everything that had just happened. Sure he knew was going to wake up to a lot of pain and maybe one hell of a scolding from his father but he cared too much of what was going on now than his future. In the state of all of the clamoring for drinks, Jackson forgot about Miki and went straight for a shot to at least alleviate the tension rising from his body. He took that shot faster than he had ever taken a shot before. Were they still fighting? Jackson did not know but what he did know is that after this shot things are going to get a little less hellish. He then took two shots on the go.

"Kingsly!" Jackson called out, he stepped towards her, dropping an extra shot in front of her, "My night sucks, take a shot with me?" he asked.

Caspian & Cael
@LovelyComplex & @GhostMami

Cael’s cheeks prickled with heat when he felt Caspian’s whisper against his ear, thanking him for the cocktail. Good god, this man did not realize how sexy he was, did he? With fear of going as red as his solo cup, Cael hazarded a glance towards Cas and realized that the thanks might be about more than just the beverage. He got the feeling that he might also be acting as a distraction for something and, by the sounds of it, he was a welcomed distraction. “Anytime, kitten.” He murmured and took a sip from his own drink.

The pair continued to watch the altercation in collective silence, sipping and standing and slightly judging. He had no idea what was going through Caspian’s head, but Cael was personally doing his best to store this all in the memory bank for future gossiping purposes. Surely, Rae would want to hear about the night’s testosterone-laden misadventures… and would likely have theories about lycanthropy or the like being the true source of the aggression.

From the looks of things, this was all about a clash of the queens — a ridiculous fight about who would stand on which rung of Rosefell’s social ladder. Hilarious, really. The most interesting part of it to Cael was the cute twinky asian boyfriend that Dee looked like he was about to snap in half before some killjoy prep-jock stepped in and calmed it down. Damn, that hatefuck fanfiction was practically writing itself, what a shame it was cut short before the climax.

Just when things were starting to seem like they might get boring, a short little spitfire of a girl declared a drink-off to get the school competition out in a more party-oriented way. Cael mentally noted that she seemed like a fun potential friend to make, as he appreciated her attempt to un-harsh the vibes. “Shit… this doesn’t mean we have to play for different teams, does it?” Cael asked, playfully letting the double meaning hang on his smirk.

Caspian timidly responded with a smile, as he brought his cup to his lips. Poor Cael had no idea how much of a killjoy his new friend was. Cas did not know how to let loose and have fun. Many times over, he wasn’t willing to try out of fear of ruining his image. Even now, as they stand in front of the drinking table, silently judging the many party goers in attendance, he was thinking of an escape plan so he could return to the comfort of his cold, barren, and lonely manor. Having a companion beside him made his time bearable but it still didn’t change his current state of anxiety and internal panic.

The room itself was crowded and hot. He did not have enough booze in him to handle the chaos and watching all the bodies against bodies just made him uncomfortable. Thankfully, his partner of the night respected the silence and filled it when he saw necessary. Seeing Marcos’ sister intervene not only concerned the pale teen but made him think of what his own sister would do in a situation like this. He wondered if she would even care enough to intervene or would she be too busy getting drunk with Billie by the pool, playfully slapping the water with her feet. If Callie were here, she would have a ball… and yet, she wasn’t here.

After downing the rest of his drink, feeling overheated, Cas turned toward the table, placing his empty cup on it. With charming struggle, he unbuttoned the collar of his button up as well as the button below it. When his collar was no longer tightly wrapping around his neck, his hand trailed to his pant’s pocket, feeling his cigarette box and lighter. He needed a smoke but that would mean he would have to push through the crowd to get to the nearest exit. Keeping himself mentally preoccupied he took off his expensive dress coat, making a note that his style was definitely ‘overdressed’ for parties like this. Every movement, while it seemed like he was in his own world, still showed he was aware of the space he was in. Moving to the side when someone needed to get to the drink table, glancing around him, looking over his shoulder, adjusting his position when people moved their hands around him... Whether it was his anxiety or paranoia, Caspian Grey wanted to stay one step ahead of the crowd.

Right when he turned to Cael to ask if they should go somewhere more private, he heard a shift in the crowd, some murmuring when the host came in with a hose, and while subtle, and buried under the music and chatter, he could hear the voltage of water build up. As if he could feel what was coming next, his quick reflexes from fencing, among other things, caused him to throw his coat on Cael’s beautifully vibrant green dyed hair. He hoped he was quick enough to provide Cael with some protection because if not, then, how unfortunate to see such hard work go to waste. With Cael hidden by Cas’ coat, Caspian found himself completely soaked, from head to toe, once more.

Well, his sister would love something like this. Having been cooled down, Cas leaned up against the table, took his wet box of cigarettes out, pulled one out, and lit it, watching everyone else in amusement. Might as well salvage his smokes before they got too soggy. This was a first for him, having enough courage to smoke in front of others. By the looks of it, it was far too tumultuous for him to really give a shit. As long as his parents didn’t find out, that’s all that mattered to him. At a party, you either got away with murder or it all caught up with you. One way or another, as mistakes usually do. Since smoking wasn’t an odd thing for people in his year, he knew he was safe. Plus, what would his sister think if he didn’t take any chances? His dark gaze glanced over to the boy next to him — his spirit calming because of the nicotine burning in his throat. An ever growing curiosity, twisted with butterflies, spun in his stomach, as he waited to see Cael’s face once more. For his hair.

Cael had been too busy being stunned by the unbuttoning of Caspian’s shirt to notice any of the oncoming commotion. Not just one button, but two… and his previously pale cheeks were flustered red all of the sudden. This was purposeful... right? An invitation to stare? Cael’s gaydar was sending mixed signals but his hormones were full force with desire.

And then, suddenly, it was dark. He heard squeals and Christian’s voice and… water falling? But that was all in the background as the fae-like boy found himself surrounded in darkness. Delicious darkness. No, really, it smelled sooo good, like snuggling up with a warm cup of tea, citrusy and herbal… but with sweet undertones, like opening a fresh bottle of rum. Was this… was this what Caspian smelled like? Gods, he smelled expensive. Realizing that he was probably hiding in his classmate's coat for a suspiciously long time, Cael carefully peeked out of the collar, but kept it closely wrapped around his shoulders.

“Oh!” Cael responded in shock, taking in the sight of a dripping wet Caspian taking a drag from a cigarette. Jesus, how drunk was he? Did he pass out and this was just a literal wet dream? His breath hitched and his words got caught on his tongue. “You’re… wet.” Smooooth one, Crawford. Cael mentally kicked himself for being so distracted by the way the boy’s shirt was clinging to his… “We should… I should...” Breathe, start over. “Let’s go get you dried off, yeah?”

He slipped his arms into Caspian’s jacket sleeves and offered to show him the way to the nearest full bathroom. Because, you know, there was more than one full bathroom in rich people’s houses, apparently. “Thanks, by the way, for the shield.” Cael chimed in, realizing that he never said thank you. With Cas’ almost superhuman reaction time, Cael had barely gotten damp from the spray. With any luck, his hair dye wasn’t embarrassingly running neon streaks down his face, although the tips of hair resting on his forehead did seem to be a little wet.

“Anytime.” Caspian answered and took one last long drag before using the inside of his old cup as an ashtray. Instead of gesturing with his hand for Cael to lead the way, he took charge, clearly aiming to go to a further destination. Secluded, private, and away from the party. He preferred not being too close to the drunken crowd, so a little trek through the mansion didn’t hurt anyone. There was no doubt in the wealthy boy’s mind that his classmate, Christian, had a bathroom upstairs. Why wouldn’t he? He was rich. And if Caspian had things his way, they would not be interrupted. Searching through the crowd, he saw the best path to maneuver through and strode off, making sure to look back and ask the stunned boy, “You coming?”

“Mhm.” Cael nodded as he bit back the urge to say something risqué like… hopefully soon. Caspian seemed eager to usher them off to a secluded location. So, the show of unbuttoning was on purpose. Butterflies stirred up in his stomach, partially from the inebriation, partially because… well, it had been a hot minute since he’d hooked up with anyone. After trying a couple of doors, Cael finally found one that was a bathroom and held it open for his soon-to-be-lover.

“Uhm…” Was asking him to take off his shirt too forward? Yeah… probably. Start slower. Cael turned to the linen closet and opened a couple of the cabinets until he found a pile of neatly folded fluffy towels. “Damn… these are nice.” He said without thinking, and then blushed out of embarrassment. Way to be the poor kid… impressed by luxury towels. Shaking it off, he spun around to offer to dry Caspian’s hair.

“Oh, fuck.”

While Cael was finding towels for him, Caspian took a moment to unbutton his shirt completely and hang it over the sink. He didn’t think too much into it because all he wanted was the wet shirt off of him. They were both guys so it wasn’t like Cael hadn’t seen a shirtless man before. Stepping forward when Cael turned around, he gingerly pulled a towel out of the boy’s hand, having missed his mutter. With a towel now in hand, and the distance between them broken, the “Vampire King” focused on the task at hand: drying his hair. Plopping the towel on his head, he acknowledged in relief, “Glad your hair is fine.”

“And I’m glad yours wasn’t.” He replied confidently, boosted up by the fact that Caspian had already started undressing. He stepped forward to close the space between them further and reached up to the towel. “Here, let me help.” he said, standing on his tippy toes to dry out his dark curls.

Well, this was nice of his new friend. Caspian peered through the openings of the moving towel on his head. They were nearly the same height, which was a first for him since most guys were increasingly taller. His gaze went from Cael’s face to his tip toe feet. This position probably wasn’t comfortable for him. “Do you want me to sit?” Cas probed, peaking through the towel.

Was he offering to give him a — No, that was just the perverted drunk thoughts taking over. Unless…

Cael lifted the towel so that he could fully see Caspian’s face and met his gaze. He didn’t look away, which was a good sign, but, there was such a mystery in those eyes. Who was Caspian Grey, really? Eager to find out, Cael leaned forward, his left fingertips reaching up to graze the bare chest in front of him. Parting his lips slightly, he breathed in more of that intoxicating scent, just centimeters away from Caspian’s own lips before— the bathroom door SLAMMED open to interrupt them.

((Note: The person that is interrupting them is Billie Grey; so that is reserved for her solo post.))

So it seemed that everything hadn't really gone to plan for old Jax. He had planned to get himself stuck in, try something new and perhaps win some new found respect off Melissa. Instead, he had his nose shattered and his downstairs bashed. Rather than show himself as a dependable person. He made himself out to be the distraction and a clown. This is what it must have felt like to be Spike.

The bleeding was enough to get Jax to snap out of his strange, newly developed bloody side. He accepted JayVaughn’s help to get up, clasping the napkins in his hands as he then went on to try and stem the bleeding. He listened to what Jay wanted to say before replying back himself. ”I have no intention in taking part in the drinking game, trust me.” Jax said as he leant his head back and pinched his nose, simply decorating the napkins he was holding in crimson. This was the price that you paid for trying to be a tough guy.

”You stay and enjoy the party. Not your fault. I will go clean up.” Jax began to look for a bathroom. Most of them seemed to be locked, until he found one on the southside of the house. He entered, leaving the door open as he put the napkins down to assess the damage Jackson had done to his nose. It most certainly wasn’t a pretty sight. Thankfully his nose hadn’t shattered in a weird shape. It would go back to normal. It was just going to hurt for a few days.

He turned on the water on the sink and began to wash his face, trying to get off some of the already dried blood. Once he had cleaned up, he didn’t look too bad now. His skin was red, and a small amount of blood was dripping out still. Grabbing some toilet tissue he leant his head back one more time and pinched nice and hard. After a few minutes he removed the tissue to notice that it had finally stopped bleeding. Which was a bonus. He washed his face one more time to try and wake him up a bit. He was a bit disappointed in himself that he didn’t get the chance to impress Melissa. Maybe the fact he tried would be enough to get her to listen to him.

Unlike a lot of the other party-goers, Tyler was very excited to watch Dee and Melissa take on those two Liberty kids. There was no doubt in her mind that they deserved whatever was coming to them. She had already known that it was only a matter of time before something like this happened, and it felt kind of good to actually not be involved in the action for once. Instead, she was simply living vicariously through Dee as he slammed the poor kid against the wall, causing her and everyone around her to flinch. While the Liberty kid was definitely holding his own, everyone surely knew that in the end, he would be no match for DeShawn.

Things didn't start to get too out of hand until Dee broke the leg off a chair and tried to use it as a weapon. It was then that Tyler's feeling of excitement quickly turned to ones of panic and worry. Not only did she fear that the other boy could get seriously hurt, but she also worried for Dee and how shit could easily go left if the police were called. A wave of relief came over her, however, when the large boy was stopped before the weapon could actually be put to use. "Oh thank God," Tyler said, letting out a breath she didn't even realize she'd been holding in.

"I need to talk to Dee, We'll catch up some other time okay?" Jo suddenly said, snapping Tyler back to reality. She simply nodded and offered her friend a half-smile before watching the girl storm in Dee's direction, prepared to give him a piece of her mind. Tyler had the same idea in her head, but decided to wait until later to talk to Dee, figuring that he'd need some time to recuperate. Instead, she downed the rest of her Henny/Coke combination and started to make her way back to the liquor table, only to stop dead in her tracks when Christian made an appearance inside, this time holding a water hose.

"Oh Hell no... no, no no..." Tyler said under her breath, trying to push her way through the crowd, but she wasn't moving fast enough. Cool droplets of water suddenly came crashing down on Ty's head, and the young woman couldn't do much but attempt to cover her head with her hands and stand amongst the others in defeat. When the water had stopped falling, Tyler ran her fingers through her hair to find that her fresh silk press had already started to revert back to it's naturally curly state... no surprise there. She was afraid to see if any serious damage had been done to her makeup.

"God Dammit, Christian," Ty exclaimed, hopefully loud enough for him to hear, as she rolled her eyes and dug around her purse for an extra scrunchie. And when she couldn't find one, the young woman decided to just go search around the house for an unoccupied bathroom. "Straighten your hair, Ty... it's a special occasion, Ty..." the girl said under her breath, mocking her own words as she pushed her way through groups of drunk teenagers, not caring who she knocked over in the process.

"An hour and a half gone to fucking waste."
