The magical community has recently come under fire by an as-yet unnamed group that seems to have little regard for the barrier between the magical world and the nijū world. While sources say the group has been around since late last year, it has only been in recent months that their activities have started to be noticed. Two nights ago a storefront in Shibuya was found to be vandalized, the display glass shattered and the interior ravaged. The owner of the store had no comment for the press but has stated publicly that nothing was taken. This follows after another attack, this one on a noted dining establishment, where apart from vandalism there was graffiti written in a script that left nijū officers confused.

On the surface these attacks hardly seem connected but the graffiti at the restaurant was an ancient script dating back to a time when wizards inscribed spells onto stones to imbue them with magical properties. The restaurant's owner is a graduate of Mahoutokoro School of Magic who, upon marriage, settled into a nijū way of life at the insistence of his wife. It is yet unknown what connection the Shibuya shop owner has to the roving gang of vandals, but it is clear this group is likely to strike again. Business owners are understandably anxious.

This anxiety has been brought to the attention of the Magical Diet, the governing body of our magical world, though action has yet to be taken. Shohei Kurosawa, the current Minister of Japanese Magic and head of the Magical Diet has voiced his opinion on the matter.

"We have no reason to believe these attacks, such as they are, are anything more than a bunch of miscreants looking to cause a little bit of trouble for people. Misguided youths most likely. Rest assured if we feel that action needs to be taken, it will be taken. This is a job the nijū police officers can handle."

Many remain unconvinced by the Minister's words and his inaction is yet another mark on a reputation that has been anything but sterling thus far. After the controversy surrounding the Diet's decision to work more closely with nijū government in matters that don't affect both parties, many are in the belief that the current Ministry administration is far more interested in tearing down magical borders than reinforcing them.

-Continued on page 5A

"Bah, that Minister needs to be ousted already. He and that whole organization."
"He's right, though. This isn't their responsibility."
"They know ancient runes, doesn't that mean there's magic users among them?"
"Exactly my point! What's to stop them from going after more magical businesses? Or the SCHOOL? I've got a daughter going there today! How is she supposed to feel safe if thugs can just do what they please?"

Tokyo Station was, as usual, bustling with activity. From regular commuters on their way to work to the conductors trying to maintain order, down to the students who were back for another year of school shenanigans. Even the shops were opening up to provide coffee or paper to those who were too busy to have the luxury of a breakfast at home. Spring was here at long last and the station was newly remodeled to provide easier pathways and fewer stopgaps in foot traffic. There was, however, one corner of the station that always seemed to be under construction.

In a corner of the station, away from the cross traffic and the blaring announcements of which lines were now boarding, was a seemingly abandoned gate. While the nijū referred to it as 'Deadman's Corner' due to it looking like a place where urban legends would spawn, those in the know called it the 'MT Line'. All it took was a flash of a special ticket on the turnstyle and everything became clear. A lengthy escalator trip downwards through the MT Line gate opened up to a side of Tokyo Station that was a world all its own.

The MT Line Terminal was the epicenter for young students embarking on their journey to Mahoutokoro full time. The Terminal was like every part of Tokyo Station condensed into one singular platform. One side, stretching down the length of the tiled flooring, contained various shops and stands. Students could purchase the newest issue of the Kotodama Shibun, the premiere newspaper for the Japanese wizarding world. If they needed snacks for the trip over, various shops and stands offered those services, including the always popular takoyaki and taiyaki stands that were next to each other and owned and operated by a sibling duo that often bickered with each other while filling orders.

For students that couldn't arrive via the MT Line Gate there was a shop that served no purpose other than to serve as an exit for an interconnected Floo Network. There was even a shop for students who were a bit lazy with preparation and dealt in secondhand textbooks and school supplies at a reasonable, though inflated, price. The Terminal was a prime place for returning students to meet up with friends, for parents to say goodbye to their young children, and for first timers to truly start to get a sense of awe at the world they were about to embrace fully.

The other side of The Terminal was where the pride and joy of the Mahoutokoro transportation line sat. A sleek, pristine pearl train that resembled a Shinkansen, or bullet train, sat on the track. Though it had the look of a bullet train, its speed wasn't that fast as they wanted students to fully enjoy the fact that their transportation to school took them on an underwater journey complete with a chance to see aquatic creatures from the comfort of a train so smooth it barely made any noise as it went on its way.

Inside the train were compartments and in each compartment were cabins that comfortably sat four, two per seat, with a car designed for looking out at the water and for larger socializing known as the Observatory Car. Before arriving at the school and getting into the spirit of intramural competition, the Mahoutokoro Shinkansen was the place for students of opposite houses to mingle freely, without the spirit of competition hanging over them.

It was the start of yet another school year and students were shuffling about, saying their goodbyes and making their greetings. The concerns of the magical world seemed far away from the hustle and bustle of The Terminal.

The Mahoutokoro Shinkansen was now boarding for yet another year of education and wonder.

No matter how often she saw it, the sight of The Terminal always brought a smile to Junko's face. Coming down the escalator and stepping out into what was basically another world held just as much wonder now, going into her fifth year, as it did when she was a naive kid embarking on her first year's courses. Everything about it brought about a happy feeling. The sight of faces familiar and new bustling about, the proud look on parents as they saw off their first year students, the buzz of conversation of all sorts flowing from every direction, the delectable aroma of takoyaki...

Junko Serizawa pierced an octopus ball with a toothpick and popped it into her mouth, completely ignoring the warning from its chef about how hot it would be fresh off the fryer. The regret was written on her face, which tensed up, eyes widening, and mouth closing shut. It was like putting a ball of fire directly into her mouth; a ball of fire that was utterly delicious, but she was regretting letting her hunger take temporary control of all her sense.

Presently the incoming fifth year was seated on a bench near the row of snack shops, a tray of five takoyaki resting in her palm. By her count, that being the clock hanging overhead that didn't tell time so much as it displayed a countdown to departure, she had twenty minutes before she had to board. Twenty minutes wasn't a lot of time but it was enough to mingle, to enjoy takoyaki, and most importantly to find one of two things. People to share a cabin with on the trip over or a certain person who did so have a knack for being late. Or lazy. The two were synonymous.

Another year was on the horizon, and though she didn't show it due to the warped-by-hot-food expression on her face, Junko could not have been more excited to get back to the castle atop the mountain.

"Fuuuuck," Asahi drew the foreign word out into a pure expression of just how tired he was. He hated the first day. Or at least the travelling of it. 4:30 AM was way too early to get up. Four hours was far too long to spend on a train. Especially the Tokyo line. At least he'd managed to catch some sleep on the Shinkansen. His parents had long since trusted him with the trip on his own, seeing him off at Kameyama, but it was such a headache to carry everything he needed. He stopped at the Starbucks, head lolling slightly as he placed his order. It always cost more here, but he needed the stronger kick. Breakfast was a FamilyMart nikkuman. Asahi chuckled as he put the coffee into his flask and the nikkuman into his bag. Here he was already eating like a journalist.

The queue was always long outside the MT Line gate, and when Asahi got through the benches were all taken. "Fuuuck..." He moaned again, finding the fourth years' part of the station, 3E, and sat on his rolling case to eat. It wasn't that he didn't want to go back to school. Henshusa-senpai was only a year away from graduating, and Asahi hoped to take over from her. And the Quidditch season was always fun, as was being able to walk around the change rooms without being chased off. He might be Ka, but the captains knew he was fair. And there'd be a new batch of first-year reporters. That was Asahi's favourite part. They were explicitly under his charge this year, even if he'd only had the one pet to shadow him last year. He felt himself getting excited despite the early morning. New year, new season and new koheis.

Aniyan Vulor

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Aniyan had always loved Japan. His father, guiding him through Tokyo station once again, always made him feel happy. It was the one trip they had always took, except for the one back home each year. He never went back during holidays, just to save his father money. They were always poor, and Aniyan was lucky to get the luxuries he did have, like his drum set and his ipod. They had to save for years for both items. Aniyan and his father had entered onto the platform. "Goodbye, baba." Aniyan said to his father. "Goodbye, my son. I will write to you weekly, like before", he responded, and then promptly left. Aniyan took his headphones out and plugged them into his ipod. He shuffled his playlist, and 2112 by Rush played. His headphones always did look weird with his green robes.

It was extremely hard for Aniyan to believe that he was already in 6th year. He had always been a mediocre student, never the best, but it just seems that time seemed to fly. Aniyan didn't even believe that he had learned much. Regardless, he had another year of having to sit through Divination, which he hated with a passion. Actually, maybe not. He wasn't sure if they offered divination for 6th years. All he knew was that he had hoped that they didn't.

Aniyan was extremely tired. Travelling across China was always hard. China was beautiful, but that doesn't mean that it isn't tiring to travel across it. It was always super tedious, always looking at mountains and plant life until they finally made it to the cities, where they then took a boat to Japan. Japan was always the best. They would spend 2 days there each time, and buy all of his new supplies each year. Sometimes, his father even let him visit the music store, and he got his last pair of drumsticks two years ago. Speaking of that.... Aniyan peeked into his suitcase. His father enchanted it to be big enough for him to take his drums with him everywhere. They were all intact, so Aniyan boarded the train. He set his luggage up on the luggage rack above his compartment, number 22. He took out Surat, and sat down in the compartment. He pet Surat, then proceeded to airdrum to what was now playing, Pink Floyd's Have a Cigar.

Aniyan began to think, "I wonder why I have never made any friends here at this school. Everyone seems to have them. I mean, I always help everyone, I'm kind. I wonder.... May be it's because I just never take interest. Whatever." He continued airdrumming. Surat jumped on his lap and began to yowl. She scratched through his robes. "Бич!" he shouted, in his native tongue. As he shouted the slur, the compartment door opened. Someone was entering, so Aniyan took out his headphones. "Hello?" he said, shyly.

Now departing Ikebukuro Station. Now departing Ikebukuro Station.

XiaoBao had his headphones on, but the PA system was loud enough that he knew his train is departing. Packed in to the train car like sardines, XiaoBao tugged at his backpack and held on to the railing to keep himself from shifting, not that he has a risk of that anyways...

Morning rush hour was always the worst. However, aside from they typical school vacations and the once per year journey from where he currently lives to Tokyo Station, he has no real needs to taking public transportation. Looking down on his phone, a video clip of a recent Quidditch friendly between Japan and Brazil was playing. Like their real life football counterparts, the Brazilian team play with such flair and freedom that it seemingly enchants their opponents. Japan, the ever technical and fundamentally sound team, was being pushed by the free-form attacking of the Brazilians. "Chaser, left flank..." XiaoBao muttered to himself. He was 'shadowboxing'. He had inserted himself into the match on Team Japan. As the Brazilian team was attacking, he was defending and he spotted the open chaser down the left. Were he actually in that match, he would have rushed to cover the side to try and stop the attack...

The clip ended, and his music resumed. It was loud, but not loud enough to be obnoxious. A fresh selection of Logic was on the playlist of the day. XiaoBao looked up and noticed that Tokyo Station was the next stop. That was a brisk 17 minute trip. Train are always so precise here. In his other travels, never has he experienced such precision. They'd even apologize to the passengers if the train was even two minutes late. Getting of the local Marunouchi line train, XiaoBao had to turn sideways several times to dodge other passengers as he walked by.

Heading towards the MT Line Gate, he was surprised that there wasn't a ton of people going in and out of the turnstile. He shrugged it off and proceeded to head through the gate himself. Descending the elevator to his platform, he skipped several songs on his phone and then stashed it back away in his pocket. Adjusting his glasses slightly, he arrived at the bottom of the elevator and proceeded onto the bustling platform. "Haaaaa...."He said softly after a soft inhale of the air. Nothing has changed, it would seem.

Heading into a Starbucks, he grabbed himself his usual, a grande caramel latte and headed for the takoyaki stand. It has become almost a tradition for at least himself to grab a coffee and an order of takoyaki before boarding the train. Taking a small sip of his hot beverage, he waited and then received his order. As he received his order of takoyaki and walked away, he looked up at the display board and noticed that there were about 15 minutes before he needs to board the train. Plenty of time for him to sit down and eat.

Looking around slightly, he saw a spot on the bench. He approached, taking out his earbuds to take in the sounds of the platform. "Hello~"He said in a friendly tone to the girl who seems to be burning from the inside out from the piping hot takoyaki. "What are you, a first year..? Everyone knows to not eat these like that... He thought to himself. He poked into one of his takoyaki with the toothpick that was supplied, took a small bite to allow the semi-soft contents on the inside to cool down before continuing...

Despite the fact that she had zero need to take the public transport to get to the MT Line Terminal in Tokyo Station, Momo always found herself taking the Yamanote Line, puzzling her parents and their chauffeur with her strange behaviour. She was highly peculiar and highly unlike her brother and her peers in many regards. The fact that she liked trains as well certainly didn't help one bit. Boarding the train at Shinjuku station at one of the busiest times of the day, Momo got there early to ensure that she had a decent enough space to stand without being squished among the rush hour crowd. She took out a book on Japanese folklore and thumbed her way to the neatly placed bookmark within the pages and continued where she left off from before. It wasn't long before her stop came and it was time for her to alight, as the petite girl squeezed through the crowd, weaving in and out masterfully before darting out of the train as the familiar departure melody began to play.

Momo walked towards Deadman's Corner and flashed her magical ticket onto the turnstile and stepped through and down the escalator, as she headed into the entrance of the magical world hidden away from the eyes of the nijū. Her first stop, just the rest of the other years before this was to head to the taiyaki stand to get her one of those lovely fish pastries. Her particular favourite was the one that had the chocolate filling in it. Who doesn't love chocolate?! With more than twenty minutes to spare until the Shinkansen to Mahoutokoro would leave, she had more than enough time for her to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, as she took a seat on one of the nearby benches and enjoyed her delicious mouthwatering treat. This was a new year for her, and she had plenty of goals and aspirations she hoped to fulfil.

She hoped that this year would be good for Chi in Quidditch and they would be able to wrestle the cup away from the Champions for one. She knew that was a tall order, but the girl could dream, couldn't she? After all, since she didn't get to be in Ka like the rest of her family, the least she could do was to perform well in the team. God knows she had plenty to prove, especially to her brother whom she idolised.

Tokyo Station:

“No. Please don’t-”

An ear-piercing scream erupted from inside the women’s restroom. A shade of mahogany sprayed across the wall. The door's creak drowned out by the squeak of a turning faucet. Sounds of flowing water used to scrub their hands. She held her breath, index finger pressed against her lips. Eyes peered outside. Smiling like the crocodile beneath the surface, stalking its prey. Watching the stranger scratch their neck, wearing stained disposable gloves. Raising a tool above their head, whipping it into the air. Splattering the thick substance onto the wall. The vibrant purple clashed among the warmer colors.

Her focus interrupted by a loud slam coming from the foot of her classmate. The door burst open, revealing them. The graffiti artist swung around, face covered in a kitsune mask. Grabbing the unzipped backpack stuffed with acrylic paint cans lying beside their feet. Bolting down the hallway and passing the corner, disappearing from the girls sight. Kayda and her classmate looked at the unfinished abstract art, then glanced at each other.

"Kay, we're going to get some veggie crisps before we board. Do you want anything?" The classmate asked standing behind Kayda, before stepping outside. Noticing a garter snake emerge from Kayda's shirt, then slither around her neck. Her classmate unconsciously twirls her curly hair and sighed. "Make Erebus stay underneath your clothes. He's already made Rachel cry bloody murder. You don't want him scaring the first years off the train.” Her classmate held her hands by her mouth mimicking a megaphone. “Ms.Ophidiophobia, stop hiding and come with me! You owe me for the Starbucks I bought last time!”

“Sorry, Rachel. He likes the smell of the perfume that I gave you. So he offered you a friendly lick.” Kayda said half-smiling, stifling a giggle. The youngest girl inched out the stall, looking pale as a ghost. Kayda walked away from the door. Giving Rachel enough space to lunge out and grab her other classmate's shoulders. Causing her friend’s eyes to roll, becoming a human shield. The two girls sauntered across the hallway. Waving along with Kayda before parting.

Kayda glanced down at Erebus, lifting the shirt up off her right shoulder. The snake’s flicked his tongue, heading to her sleeve until concealed. “Come on, you know better than that.” She scolds with a whisper. Covering her mouth as she let out a yawn. Feeling vibrations coming from her phone twice. Pulling out her cell out of her pocket and checking her father’s unread texts.

No, our turbulence wasn't that bad. We still arrived on time. But the little white boy wouldn't stop kicking my seat and I didn't want to wake the mother. She felt nauseous the entire flight.
Dad

But you should worry about getting to your train on time. Hope you have a good first day back at school. I still cannot believe my precious daughter is in her last year of junior high. You grew up so fast. Your mother would be so proud. Love you.
Dad

Kayda smiled and quickly texted back and hit send. Glancing back at the graffiti and frowning. “I wanted to see them finish...” She thought. Walking past the men’s restroom, hearing someone’s lousy whistling exiting. Seeing a janitor wearing headphones, pulling out a cart filled with cleaning chemicals. Kayda observed the man collapsing to his knees, hand balled into fists.

“I just finished cleaning the bathroom!” He yelled out in exasperation. She checked the time, having plenty remaining. Sliding the phone back into her pocket, approaching the janitor.

“Would you like some help?”

...the fuck?

CJ was thoroughly confused as to what he was doing standing at some Tokyo train station. He was told to go here, and there was not much more to it. But, why? Having his ticket in hand, he was looking up at the signs to direct him as to where to go. Pulling his luggage along, he was starting to get disoriented as to where exactly this part of the subway was. The cleanliness and straight-forward nature of a subway in Japan had actually managed to confuse CJ. Poor thing. He was stuck directly in the middle of the subway and was lost as to where to go. CJ didn't really have a good sense of direction.

Taking a shot, he chose a direction and went with it. He didn't realize that there were things pointing him to exactly where he was supposed to go. He just kept looking around at everything but what he was supposed to look at. What were you expecting? It was his first day at this magical school thing, after all. He also didn't spend much time in subway stations despite him being a native of Japan. It just wasn't something he had to deal with ever. Either he was on the base where everything was nearby, or he was taken by car. Simple as that, and boy did his experience show here.

If someone were to take a glance at him, someone would think that CJ was a 馬鹿外人 (baka gaijin), which wasn't really the case. He was just lost. CJ wasn't that dumb. It took another good while of walking before he was remotely in the area of the turnstile he was supposed to be at. Even going so far as to walk past it a couple times. Of course, CJ paid no mind to it simply because it looked so shady and there was absolutely no way such a prestigious school would have their students go through something so shady looking. It just wasn't right to him.

However, much to his dismay, there really was no other option than the shady turnstile. Why? The numbers and everything matched up, but why in God's name was it so shady-looking? He swore if he went through there, Sadako Yamamura was going to pop out of a nearby screen and do things he'd rather not think about to him. Well, he really did have no other option. CJ swallowed to himeslf. Sadako wasn't so bad. She was just a measly little girl. He could've taken her easily. He walked up to the turnstile, luckily catching it at a time where barely anyone was there. Much to his surprise, he was let through.

It was the best decision he had made today so far. It was like he teleported somewhere else. This place was cleaner than a whistle, brighter than his future, and more lively than Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras. He pulled his luggage close to him and sat down nearby. He was honestly so overwhelmed with the station that he just froze in his seat while he was trying to process everything. The stuff he was seeing... he was whiter than a ghost and his eyes looked like he had just seen one.

A collab with @Hero

It was the beginning of the second week of April. Demetria Graves was wiping the ashes off her clothing at Mitsuwa, the one store at the MT Line Terminal whose only purpose was to allow students entrance to the station via Floo Network. Coming from a low-middle class family meant that flights to Tokyo were out of the question. On the other hand, having a Muggle father, an Auror brother and another brother attending his last year also meant that apparition was another means of transportation she couldn’t use. That is why the young woman had resorted to saying goodbye to her father, standing in the middle of her house’s fireplace before dropping the Floo powder that would ultimately take her to her destination.

Once she deemed herself presentable, Demi grabbed her luggage and owl cage (where a content Calliope was quietly looking around at her surroundings) and made her way out of the shop. She quickly looked around for any signs of her boyfriend, going as far as going up and down the ample terminal twice. However, she let out a tired sigh at failing to find him. Deciding it was time to rest, the brunette took a seat in the nearest bench, placing her luggage beside her. The fact that Kalder had yet to arrive at their appointed meeting spot meant that she’d won the bet of who would be getting to the train station first. This made her smile like an idiot. Still smiling, Demi decided to pull out her phone to kill time while her boyfriend decided to make an entrance.

Dragging his luggage along, Kalder Sigourney was still wiping his face free of his older sister’s tears. He was rather used to her dramatizing things, though this time she had gone above and beyond. It was strange, this was the second year, yet she treated it like it was the first. Luckily for him, her twin had managed to rescue him from her grip, and after bidding the two farewell, he made his way through the station. He managed to steal a glance at one of the station’s clocks, silently swearing as he realized he wasn’t as early as he wanted to be.

His owl, Ottilie, shook her feathers, rustling the cage slightly. He was genuinely surprised she hadn’t tried to get out just yet, but her movement meant she had probably seen Demi. After taking a look around while still pulling along his luggage and his owl, he saw her a good distance away. He thought he could maybe try to sneak up on her, having been relatively close without her noticing.

Of course, his plan would not come to fruition, as once he was within a few feet of her, Ottilie immediately let out a hoot, making as much noise as possible in an effort to communicate with Demi. Kalder couldn’t help but scowl at his owl; he swore she liked Demi better than she liked him. Still, the jig was up, and once he approached the bench, he let out a breath of exasperation.

Good morning, Miss Graves,” He greeted her rather cordially, trying to ignore Ottilie’s numerous hoots.

Demi, who had been deeply immersed in reading an article about her favorite band, failed to hear the excited hoots of the owl who’d frequented her Rhode Island home over the last few months. It wasn’t until a familiar voice greeted her that her attention had been caught, causing her to give a little jump at being taken by surprise. Cursing under her breath, she looked up to see who was at fault for giving her a small heart attack… And found herself staring at the face of the one person she’d missed so badly over what felt like forever.

The young woman couldn’t hold back the beaming smile that spread across her face. “Good morning to you as well, Mr. Sigourney,” Demi greeted in the same manner, although the playful twinkle in her blue eyes and wiggling eyebrows suggested she was simply playing along.

I sincerely apologize for the noise,” He joked, Ottilie’s cries relentless at this point. He took her cage and placed it next to Demi, and it immediately silenced the owl. “She seems to be rather fond of you. Not that I blame her, I’d very much like to be at the side of a beautiful girl such as yourself.

“Oh my God, that’s freaking adorable!” Demi cried out, looking down at the owl with adoring eyes. She stuck her finger through the bars of the cage to pet Ottilie’s, head, and was overcome by cuteness when the owl closed her eyes at her touch as if enjoying it. At Kalder’s compliment, she raised a joking eyebrow. “Well I certainly appreciate the compliment, especially when it comes to someone of your position, Your Highness.” she said teasingly, getting up and standing in front of him to do a mock-courtesy.

There was a part of him that wanted to continue the game, but in all honesty, he couldn’t keep it up. Taking advantage of the fact that Demi now stood before him, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a hug. The scent of her perfume was both nostalgic and comforting, a sweet smell nothing else in the world could even come close to replicating.

I’ve missed you,” He murmured, nuzzling his face on her hair.

Once again taken by surprise, it took Demi a second to register what was happening, but when she did, her arms were immediately wrapped tightly around Kalder’s athletic figure. It felt great to finally be reunited after the time spent apart, even if it had been just a few short months. There were so many things to be said and done that bi-weekly letters couldn’t even come close to transmitting. Even though she’d enjoyed the time spent with her father and brother, Kalder had been in her mind at every second. She was excited to tell him all about her vacation.

She looked up at him, a soft smile in her face. “I’ve missed you too, KalBear.” the girl responded, using the pet name she’d given him a short while ago -a play on the pronunciation of his first name. Demi giggled as she noticed he couldn’t quite stop his stupid looking grin, though it was easy to tell he was slightly embarrassed.

Taking advantage of his silence, Demi quickly added cheerfully: “I want my prize now, by the way, seeing as I clearly won our bet today.”

Drawing up a rather proper air once more, he nodded, fishing for something in his pocket. “Ask, and ye shall receive,” Kalder announced, though he hesitated. “You’re going to have to turn around for this.

The brunette looked up at him with a confused expression, making no motion to do as she was told. “Why would I need to turn around for you to pay for some snacks?” she asked, trying to remember if they had decided on anything else other than that as the winner’s prize. She was fairly certain the snacks were the only thing.

Kalder agreed, as that was the original prize, but seeing as how he knew his family would sabotage him from the start, he knew he was going to lose. As his fingers finally clasped the prize, he put it in his fist. Reaching his arm around her, he opened his palm, a small, white gold key on a silver chain quietly dangling itself in front of her.

Because the vending machine was all out,” He said.

When her eyes fell to the beautiful, delicate piece of jewelry in Kalder’s hand, Demi was stunned. Not only was it beautiful, but it certainly didn’t look like something out of a vending machine. The way it shone was the tell-tale sign that this was no cheap gift.

“Shit, Kal,” was the only thing she blurted out, taking the pendant in her hand to take a closer look. Her eyes widened at the sparking stones that decorated the hearts in the key. “Are these diamonds?!”

Well, of course,” He was a little confused at her question. Were they considered bad in Muggle culture? She seemed more surprised than upset, so he figured maybe she just wasn’t expecting it. “Mother always said it wouldn’t be jewelry without jewels. I know it’s a little on the smaller side, but I hope you like it.

Demi’s mouth was now gaping open as she tried to digest what Kalder had just said. ’On the small side’?” she repeated in disbelief, still struggling to believe what was going on. He seemed so genuinely surprised at her response that it earned him a laugh. “Kalder, the only diamonds I’ve ever seen in my life are on my mother’s wedding ring. This is just…” she trailed off, unable to contain her tears of gratefulness and disbelief and happiness and all the warm feelings bubbling up inside her. “It’s too much, Kal. I can’t accept it.”

Klader blinked a few times, now completely confused. It was nothing compared to the jewels his mother had, and had been too ‘simple’ for one of his older sister’s tastes, but he had genuinely believed that she would like it. Maybe it wasn’t nice enough? “I can get you something better,” He offered, frowning. Maybe the garnet choker would have been the better option, damn, he should have gone with his gut.

“N-no, it’s not that I don’t like it!” Demi stammered, trying to make sense of this whole confusing situation while somehow trying to find a point of understanding. “What I meant to say is that I’m not used to seeing lavish gifts like this -much less receiving them. I… I love it, I really do. I just feel really bad accepting it knowing I can never get you something half as good as this.” she said earnestly, sadly looking down at her feet.

Her reasoning made very little sense to him. It’s not like he was expecting anything in return, so her mentioning getting him anything was boggling. He stared at her expression, trying to comprehend her hesitance, trying to empathize, but nothing came to mind. Of course, he wasn’t going to just leave things as is, either.

Well...take it for now,” He insisted. “It’s yours.

Demi raised her tear-stained face up to him, a sweet smile on her features. “Thank you, Kalder. It’s beautiful.” she told him, wrapping him up in a tight hug. “I love it.”

Crisis averted! Kalder mentally gave himself a pat on the back as Demi hugged him, trying not to think too hard on her reaction. Maybe it was just not what she was used to? Well, he would just have to help her adjust, that’s all. He almost feared an argument was on the horizon, but luckily for him, it wouldn’t quite come to that.

Let’s get going,” He told her, smiling.

“Please. I’m freaking starving!” she replied with a laugh, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before letting go of him to pick up her belongings.

With luggage and his owl back in hand, Kalder decided to lead the way, figuring they had just enough time to grab something quick before boarding the train to Mahoutokoro.

Have you ever seen a kid flushing down a goldfish down the toilet? And then you asked the child why he or she is doing such thing. And as usual, the child would just respond with the phrase “Because it is dead" and “because why not?”

Most would just laugh away the story and simply explain the child the meaning behind of the destruction of one’s identity and the inevitable end. The study of death and old age is something important for every child to learn as their first lesson. Without it, the child will lack one of the most important lessons in his or her life. But there is something different in my second child. There is something unusual about him. Something dangerous and no less twisted in that small thing.

So many strangers, Zig thinks as he walked through the bustling Tokyo Station. After receiving some help, not by any normal senses, of course, Zig had finally reached the train station of Tokyo and entered the mythical train station. But is it “train station" or “tram station"? The question remained in Zig head as he strolled through the whole building. And only two words can be used in his limited English vocabulary, is that the Tokyo station is ”big" and “beautiful." And there are many people as well. Strange people in nice-looking suits. Pink, yellow, blue all mixed together and formed a river of color. And tons of food. Delicious food. Again, limited by his poorly vocabulary, Zig would describe the takoyaki as “octopus being cut and roll into a circle shape then fried into a yellow orb with smoke coming from it.”

Now, the only thing that remained is to learn English vocabulary. Sitting down on the nearby benches and feeling its sturdy supporting his back, Zig takes out an English dictionary and begin to write down vocabulary in his notebook. Time is precious, Zig thinks as his scribbled words into his yellow notebook. And despite how noisy the others are when seeing their “long time no see" friends, the child in pink uniform remained silence. In his small corner, undisturbed by the voices of the strangers, Zig writes. Erase and scribble, the boredom action. Time rolls and goes, waiting for whom?

"私は行きたくない"

A clear expression of anger was all over Rumi's face as she handed over a wad of money in exchange for two thick textbooks. In the back of her mind, she could hear her Papa's usual firm voice nagging her about going school supply shopping; this had been a few weeks before and, as usual, Rumi decided not to listen. Instead, she'd spent her time out of school goofing off with her brothers and their friends, playing pranks on the neighborhood residents and facing the consequences afterwards. Rather than spend the money her Papa had given her on the necessary school supplies, the young woman used the majority of it for items that would assist she and her brothers in their antics, as well as a brand new pair of sneakers. In fact, she wore those same expensive shoes on her feet as she forked over her last bit of cash for the pricey textbooks. "Motherfucker," Rumi said under her breath as she quickly stuffed the books into her bag and walked away from the shop.

Harumi had arrived at The Terminal twenty minutes prior to her encounter with the snarky salesman; her parents had insisted on her arriving early. Apparently, the couple did not trust their daughter enough to travel to Tokyo Station alone, even after six years of the same routine, so they stuck by her side all the way until it was time for her to take the escalator. "I'll be fine from here," Rumi had told her parents, who reluctantly agreed and kissed her goodbye. As soon as her parents were out of sight, Rumi was on the escalator and descending into The Terminal, steadily searching for a place to buy the couple of textbooks she hadn't purchased earlier.

Now the young girl wandered aimlessly, a bag slung over her shoulder and her arms folded across her chest. Most of the benches seemed to be occupied by at least one person; Rumi was not in the mood to socialize at the moment, so she decided against sitting with the younger girl who'd burned her mouth with hot takoyaki. The aroma of the delicious food instantly had Rumi's mouth watering, and she soon found her stomach growling. If only she hadn't skipped out on breakfast. Rather than stand around inhaling the scent and making herself even more hungry, Rumi walked in the opposite direction, searching for an available seat. She didn't find one, but did spot something, or someone, that made her chuckle.

Sitting on a bench not too far away, a pale, older boy sat frozen in place, his eyes taking in his surroundings. Judging by his facial expression alone, Rumi could easily tell that he was a newcomer. She also couldn't recall ever seeing the boy in any of her classes. Before she even realized what she was doing, her legs were carrying her over towards the older male. She came to a stop directly in front of him, readjusting the strap on her shoulder before speaking. "You look like you've just seen a ghost," she said with a slight smirk, "Mind if I sit here?" Before waiting for a response, however, Rumi slid her bag onto the floor on the opposite side of the bench before popping a squat right next to him. "You're new, aren't you?"

Josh stumbled out of the fireplace trunk and owl cage in tow, still uncomfortable with floo travel. He bent double resting his hands on his knees to draw in some deep breaths, eyes squeezed shut. The psychedelic flashes of the sheer number of fireplaces he had to pass to reach Tokyo from Fiji where he had been learning concealment charms from his father as the New Zealand Ministry helped strengthen the charms hiding the fire crab reservation from an increasing number of muggle (now he was back in Japan he’d have to remember to can them Nijū again!) tourists. Stomach settled he straightened up and beat at the soot that had accumulated on his trousers. Damn not being able to use Scourgify outside of school!

He hauled his trunk out of Mitsuwa onto the platform, accompanied by some hoots from Marama. “Shush you!” he jokingly scorned. “Don’t make me cast Silencio on you again!” The owl looked alarmed before cocking her head to own side in an victorious attempt to be adorable. The young wizard smiled and hauled his trunk along the platform weaving between the many bustling students and their accompanying families. He was always prepared for a handful of ‘looks’ from the prestigious Japanese families at the New Zealander attending their renowned school, yet it still stung especially as his parents’ could never see him off. But the bewildered expression of a pretty handsome first year distracted his morbid thoughts and he smiled to the newbie with a wink, remembering how awestruck he was by the station in his first year.

It was nearly a whole minute before he spotted someone he knew. He gave a wave to Demetria as he approached, Mara hooting in delight. He rolled his eyes, why did both his and Kalder’s owls love her so? He rolled up to them with a grin. “Happy New Year guys!” he then realised what he’d said and panicked. “I – er – mean school year. You know what I mean.” He gave a nervous laugh. Why was he so bloody awkward?! Well the answer was obvious. His close friend Demi was ridiculously hot, popular AND the captain of the Quidditch team. He often wondered why she was friends with the likes of the nerdy him. If they weren’t in the same house he doubted she’d notice him. But then again she was delightfully down to earth and it was lovely to be able to talk to someone else so far from home. As for her boyfriend. Well. The crush had been there since day one. The blonde locks and English accent had initially made the Kiwi’s insides go to mush. But he had learned to lessen that emotion over the years since they started dating and he had needed to spend more time around the Brit outside of their Magical Language classes.

“Have a good time back in the States Demi?” he asked as he hugged his friend and smiled at Kalder,
"Sure did!" she replied happily, a bright smile on her face. "I missed my dad and my brothers a lot; not to mention the comfort of being back home with those you know." Josh grinned in response, "Same!" Whilst he was an only child he had loved spending time with his parents again and knew that they'd love to meet her in person one day.

Looking around he noticed a near-empty compartment in the metallic bullet train that had always awed him since his first visit here 5 years ago. Josh grabbed his trunk and an alarmed Mara, “there’s only one person in that booth” he urged the couple. “See you on there?” He said with a cheeky grin before leaping aboard the train. He stowed his luggage, passed Mara a cheek treat and found his way to the compartment he’d spotted from outside. He was always desperate for a window seat. His fascination for underwater only fuelled by this annual trip. Growing up on the coast and island hopping with his father on assignment with many a magical creature he had always had a passion for the ocean. He was now a trained junior scuba diver in the muggle world as well as electing to study both Care of Magical Creatures and Magical Languages, where he was slowly picking apart Mermish.

He pressed a simple button and the door slid open to reveal the Chinese guy from his language class. “Hey, Aniyan right?” he asked with an awkward wave. “Mind if I join you?”

Nᴀʜᴍ Sᴇᴏ-ʏᴇᴏɴ

Mahoutokoro Shinkansen | Present Date

Seo-Yeon had taken the furthest seat she could find, out of the way of any unwanted intrusion. In her hands was the newest novel from Adachi Hirotaka, otherwise known as Otsuichi. A horror novel may not have been the most interesting thing in the world for someone who studied alchemy, exorcism, and potionmaking, but it was still a book, and Seo-Yeon lived and breathed books. It didn’t matter if it was by a muggle, foreigner, or wizard to her. As long as it had words and information to be gathered it was guaranteed that it was part of her wheelhouse. Though, as much as she enjoyed reading the familiar pages of the book she had read three-times over, the sound of her peers flocking and talking in the train did distract her.

She looked up from her book, at least for the moment, to see what she could tell. It was out of a simple curiosity – though Seo-Yeon swore not to be intrusive. She didn’t exactly want to be rude.

I suppose everyone is excited. I can understand that.

She moved her head, seeing if she could catch the sight of any one of her friends; particularly the boy she had come to know as Kairo. She was sure he would have some stories to share.
