@WickI understand your pain.

<Snipped quote by Wick>

Or dominate him. That could happen too! :D

Giggity.

To the rest of what you said though, not giggity. Very un-giggity in fact. But don't worry, I understand what you're going through too. I took a very, very long break, and only came back recently (relatively speaking). Maybe that's what you need too, a break? I felt the same before I took mine, and clearly I needed it so I'm back and better than ever (whatever that means), so it might help you too.

Whatever you decide though, I know you probably don't know me but I'm still here for you! I'm sure you have actual friends on here too, but I'm always up for being your next one.

Blegh. Here's something you either like or dislike.

Shipping in advance. Not in a 1x1 or anything, but in a Group RP. I can get the drift of wanting to play a romance 1x1, so I don't mind that as much. But when you're in a murder mystery setting and people are talking about shipping characters with one another... ech. Even worse when they ship yours, though luckily, that hasn't happened yet. I much prefer if things happened naturally instead of people aggressively doing everything they can to get two characters in a loving relationship, especially when there's a good chance said characters could die on a moment's notice. I feel that it's just not right, especially when they had no prior connection.

I get it if you wanted to ship them after a while of interacting, but we're barely into the RP and ships are already falling from the sky left and right. Oh well. we don't talk about the fact one of my characters got perved on and the other finds himself in a harem all the time for whatever freakin' reason.

Just got caught up here... Been a while since I looked it over... Apologies for all the notifications you guys got for likes and laughs, but you earned them.

I'm going to address the poster from the last page that mentioned quitting - sorry for not tagging, I'll add it later. (Later is now, EDIT: @Rin - I always make good on promises) You do you, fam. I know time and busy make it hard. Hell, I had to take a break when Skyrim first came out. We all hit a wall, but it never lasts. I was in a place where role-playing felt so lackluster once that I thought I'd never come back. A couple weeks later, I talked to a buddy and he said something that sparked an Idea (he's my most trusted partner) and lo and behold, I was back. That's all it takes, but sometimes you need to put something down to remember what a great thing it was for you.

On the topic of self-insertion, it feels pretty good if you can comfortably reach. OH! ROLEPLAY self-insertion. My bad. Yeah, Ew... I don't think I ever had that issue, but I was the opposite - we all have those just-starting fantasies of playing the main character before realizing this isn't a novel... Or, I did, cause I was like 12. Every character was Felix or Xavier and he had black hair with silver steak (because duh? It makes him wise) and he was special dammit. So cool! No, I cringe thinking about it. Bleh.

Oh, I guess I didn't bring my own Bitch, did I? Uh... Let's see here... Real life Bitch - there's a know it all in my Russian class who has a degree in Russian History and, honestly, knows a lot about a lot of things. But he's SUCH a condescending asshole all the time. I'm thankful I'm better at the language than him, but for other people... Holy fuck there's a point where it's like, dude, learn to act like a Normal human around other people. He's got this "What, you didn't know that there was this group of rebels in the middle of the fucking Amazon who hasn't been in the news or talked about since you were eight? HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM LIKE I DO?!?! Oh right, you must be uncultured swine."

And that's my rant, I've paid the toll, does it suffice? :)

I hate it when you think an interest check has failed only to get it revived by a couple people and you're obligated to make the roleplay even though you've already moved onto different roleplays. I made two interest checks a week and a half back and they slowly got up to my minimal needed to start a roleplay. Gonna start on the OOC tomorrow but I feel very little motivation to do so.

You don't have to. An interest check is to see if people have any interest in the roleplay.
The question is are you still enthusiastic for the RP? But more importantly, are you gonna enjoy running it?

No not especially I'm willing to give it a chance just like anything else i've done all the same. I am aware that I can flat out say 'you know what? I'm not going to do this i'm out' but that's not the type of guy I am. I don't like to quit and leave people high and dry. Chances are that it probably won't even get too far anyways.

Yeah, at this point I'd say you should just let the potential mates know that the check didn't garner interest quickly enough to take off. Otherwise you might just end up dragging the rp around or worse, hurt your reputation as a GM.

Think I've said this before, but people who you've sent a pm off to... And they never reply. Worse is it's an enquiry to an rp request, they ignore you, and bump their own interest thread. Do you even WANT a partner?

Chasing up people is something I don't like doing. They would have read it considering it does notify them that they have a PM. The fact that they bumped their interest check only means they didn't even bother to ask to see the the person enquiring was a suitable match.

Doesn't matter, got a friend from a previous RP who PM me and we are working on something a little demonic. };D

@NuttsnBoltsDemonic stuff is always fun.

So what I'm about to go on about isn't exactly bitching, more just me expressing something I'm paranoid about. I'm hoping some of you all will get it, because it's a little... odd.

Basically, I'm worried about meta-gaming in a backassward way, especially with the point that my current roleplay is at. Basically, I love doing very story-driven roleplays, especially the ones I GM. I want there to be an end goal in mind, and I want all the different threads that other people add to tie together into the overall plot. That's not to say I'm railroading everyone, which is another paranoia of mine; I want people to be able to breathe with their characters and truly add in a significant way to everything, but that's another issue entirely.

Anyway, with the point we've reached in my current roleplay, the group ended up going together (for the most part) to meet a character who is blah blah blah the most tied in character blah blah blah major ally blah blah blah exposition blah. Basically, she's a plot character, and meeting her for the first time allowed her to catch everyone up to speed on the things going on in one fell swoop; some of the greater antagonists, what they've done, more torrential exposition. Anyway, funnily enough she did this already to another two characters who were by themselves at the time, so the rest of the group hadn't heard the information. That meant a lot of it was repeated, but I had to find a way to make it engaging again and not copy what I had her say before, but again, another problem.

Anyway, we're finally getting to the paranoia at hand, I kept getting worried I wasn't explaining things enough. It had a little to do with the fact I had explained it all through her once before, yeah, but I was mostly paranoid that I was unintentionally holding things back because I was assuming people already knew it because I knew it. So yeah, it was some backassward metagaming foul I was trying to avoid; rather than using information the actual players have but their characters didn't, I was worried I was withholding information the characters should know because I was assuming the players themselves would know it, which was a trainwreck and a half piled on top of a beached whale.

I tried avoiding it by actually showing it to a person who is planning on joining the roleplay but hasn't yet, seeing if it was enough to get them caught up to speed. Only when they had no questions did I actually feel comfortable posting the roleplay equivalent of a recap episode, but still every once in awhile I find myself grinding my teeth about it, which is why I posted about it here.

I hope that makes even a tiny bit of sense, but it's honestly so ridiculous I couldn't help but share. One of my roleplayers called me neurotic once, and I suppose I just really fit the bill.

This has been on my mind for some time with regard to this community among many others out there, so this is not so much an isolated incident. While I should put forward I am not saying this in a hostile way, it is more of an observation I have made that continues to rub the fur the wrong way whenever I see it again.

Madness, insanity and randomness are horrifically abused. There's a sizable, measurable amount of the population that seems to call themselves "insane" and "random" as an identifier and there's a fair amount of it among the Guild. But that's where I have the complaint, in that my complaint isn't some sort of political correctness crusade that they are offending people with real psychological disorders, more so that it is worn as a badge and excuse to do anything and everything because, "lolcrazy an random". It is this nebulous mantra that has some how developed an acceptable line of behavior and logic that varies from those that just use it as an excuse to those who abuse it as a right to say or do anything without needing a reason or having expectations. This irritates me for a myriad of reasons because I am on the exact opposite end of the spectrum; I live by a strong code that doesn't vary, doesn't change, doesn't make exception and doesn't relent - it isn't for the ninety-nine percent of other people out there and I openly acknowledge that.

But I am on the Internet, am I not? Sounds more like a personal problem after all. It is, which is why I discredit that portion of my frustration with it - because our personalities do not mesh by nature - and focus more on the fact that it is exceedingly overrepresented and used as a throw away means to eek by. It is not funny, fun, cute or non-invasive; in fact, it is the exact opposite of those things. Some of us would like to hold a conversation that doesn't devolve into "madness" because "insert-reason-of-the-day-here" or have a discussion derailed because it is "too serious". I shouldn't have people attempting to guilt me out of a more mature, thought-provoking conversation just because everyone else wants to live it up.

I am perfectly willing to admit I am bitter and jaded, I am not a reliable source by these virtues and others, but I cannot be the only one who experiences this as anything short of childishness. No, I am not proclaiming "no fun allowed" but more so that it dominates interaction, has no standards, rules or expectations and is notoriously interrupting. It is everywhere and worn like some badge of honor that grants immunity to criticism. The concentration just seems to be growing with time, even in communities that already had plenty of it.

That ends this sabertooth's rant.

While I believe you may have posted in the wrong bitchfest thread, I do have to say:

After seeing the news of a guy in Japan killing 19 elderly people in an old folks' home, and GIGGLING SHYLY as he was escorted away by police in a van, it is beyond me how anyone can proudly say "I'm totally crazy!" as an excuse when they behave offensively - like cracking a senseless joke during a solemn discussion. (Try tentative humour, you git.)

GODZILLA ROAR -
Someone just PM'd me this 3 posts in after asking to RP with me, after sending me a RPFC (real people face claim) of a shy face:

By the way, which one of us will be playing the character who's leading everything?
some plebian on another forum I'm on

As my boyfriend suggested, I really should have just said, "I was thinking you."

It was an amalgam of relating to some of the Guild's members and some of their characters, @Pair of Hearts. It also just included generalities, but that is because it would be unkind to name names and outright mangle characters and dwell on that. It just was spurred by one encounter again.

I might be a savage but I have some form of honor.

If anyone has the right to call themselves insane, it's me. No, seriously... I was born with the name Nutter so I was born crazy. ;D

Jokes aside, mental illnessis a serious problem and the way that people portray it is most of the time wrong. I've had friends commit suicide over depression, a work colleague place himself into a mental ward because of his inability to cope with his own mind. The characters we create, the insanity we write about is not real and those who do become murderous psychopaths in real life are simply just that... Psychopaths.

I suppose what I'm saying is those that call themselves random, like myself, are more comedians and people need to remember that comedy is not insanity.

My angle is less one about the reality of it and that the personalities and characters who trope themselves as "insane" and "crazy" really just should be categorized as "random" and "not often appropriate" or simply, more often than many would admit, "childish". I am not fond of trends and the long standing trend of using non-existent, false, public interpretation of "insanity" is just cliché, poor taste and downright grating. It is an excuse and makes for a poor display of character and the person behind it.

Less of a rant, and more of me talking about a bit of anxiety. Nothing much.

The role-play I am involved on appears to be at the verge of death. At least it seems like it is. Now, I could be being a bit overly concerned about this, I certainly won't strike it off as a possibility. I'm sure someone will tell me if I am acting that way. The OOC has at times no posts in it at all for days, and the IC hasn't been updated by someone other than me in 14 days. I'm well aware that posting times are different for everyone, and some very good posts have come out with longer periods of time. I just can't help but have this feeling.

I'm sure everyone's seen a role-play die due to a lack of interest over time. It's not particularly new, but it does get a bit frustrating when it happens. Really, I'm sure it's all me being worried over nothing, but I have seen other concepts die in a similar amount of time, and perhaps that's why I'm slightly worried. If any of the people in the role-play I am currently in are reading this, no offense has been meant. Like I said, I'm just slightly worried.

My apologies for the rambling.

Something of a personal gripe, and I fully acknowledge that it's somewhat foolish, but something that really annoys me in this world of writing is when an RP or a writer in an RP uses an excessive amount of graphics. I understand that one might really, really like a certain actor or character, but I view excessive graphics as unneeded, and more importantly, a waste of space. In the initial post of a thread, or in a character sheet, I understand, but afterwards...no, thanks.

I'm a writer, and I write in RPs to...write. I view RPing as a collaborative authoring experience, and so it really grinds my gears when I open up a thread to poke my head in, excited and interested about story or concept, and I find that it's full of pictures and fancy text. Usually it's full of text as well, but somehow just seeing huge fancy text or a big image ruins my excitement.

A large amount of novels don't have these frills: hell, I've never seen a novel that does have pictures in it, and I've never thought that any novel I've ever read has needed them. It drives me up a wall that some people feel what seems like a compulsive need to insert a GIF of their character into every post they put up. I know what the character looks like already, there is no need to keep reiterating. I feel similarly about writing a character's name each post: I understand the logic behind it, but I find it unnecessary and bloating.

I could go on: I have a lot of gripes with RPing that I haven't ever talked about. But this should do for now, I feel better.
