Novels are a different format, in all fairness. But yes, I agree that superfluous images are distracting but sometimes a little flair does not bother me in the slightest; only excessive bits do.

Yeah, I agree. I like the posts about the world info and the GMs introductory post, maybe even at major arc/plot points. But otherwise there's no need for character banners and flowery text in every post - then the big ones don't feel special.

Character banners can vary drastically and sometimes are needed. I have 2 characters in one RP and I need to have a banner at the top to state which one I'm using. In saying that it's just a H3 name and a location listed uunderneath so it's not too obstructive.

Worse I had was someone that added a full image every post of their character that was about 800 pixels high. It was annoying to say the least.

More or less it comes down to "is it tasteful?" and "does it improve the post?"

My god am I sick of my roleplays taking so long. My other roleplayers are often stuck with real life stuff so it can't be helped but then the more active people drop out and it dies in a few weeks. I myself am not the best gm in the world, nowhere close but what else can I do when there is no one who makes the sort of roleplays I want to join, which also doesn't help.

The roleplays end up just stagnating for a couple weeks and then die unceremoniously. And I hate it especially when people show up for the interest check, don't say a word even if you @t them for confirmation, leaving you with two people out of five to set up a god damn roleplay meant for four people or more. It's really freaking frustrating.

This is EXACTLY why I do not actively seek out multi- user roleplays, There will always be stuff that gets in the way; out of a dozen or so roleplays I've been apart of that were multi-user, only one or two have actually been completed. I get wrapped up in my roleplays and I get absolutely depressed and sad if a roleplay that had a good premise and a promising storyline get derailed when people stopped posting.

On to my rant now: I haven't been on this site that much due to the reason above, but I think I might start getting on it more due to the lack of interest on the other site that I use. I've been trying for the last week and a half to get interest for sci-fi/fantasy/apoc/survival threads,but alas almost noone shows interest,and the ones that do show interest never reply to my response to their inquiry! I do enjoy the other website as it allows for content that can't be on here, but at this moment that doesn't really matter- I REALLY want to get some Sci-Fi threads up!

Take it from someone who gets no feedback from his players either; Ask for it. Tag them and bug them. And if they don't respond, raid the first alcohol stash you can find.

As for something to bitch about; Myself! I've not updated the IC in 14 goddamn days because of a single massive fuck what am I doing post I'm writing out, and I feel extremely shitty about it because I feel like I'm letting my players down like this. Worse even still is that it's only like 2/3rds done, so I've still good a truckin' good chunk of writing to do.

Even WORSE is that I KNOW I can get it done within a day or two, I just keep getting distracted and sidetracked and curse myself for making it so obnoxiously wrong because I hate TL;DRs. There's nothing that takes you out of a story as much as poor summary does, so I try to make some quality ones.

Basically, I'm bitching about me needing to stop being lazy.

I know that posts have deadlines. Sure you don't have to technically post until day seven but seriously, if you are sitting at day 4 on your counter and people are waiting on you... DON'T RUN UP YOUR COUNTER TO DAY 7 AND FORCE EVERYONE WAITING ON YOU TO SCRAMBLE TO GET THEIR POSTS IN ON TIME!!! -_- It's just rude. (This is not bitching at people who are busy and can't post till later but seriously, if you are gabbing away in chat or just procrastinating, get your shit together.)

This is more bitching at myself, but it has to do with roleplaying.

I kind of hate myself for spending so much time in the genre that games like Dark Souls occupy, where doom and gloom is name of the game. Death is expected and frequent, and the little hope that exists is tenuous at best, treacherous at worst. I've consumed this kind of media for the past several years almost nonstop, and though I enjoyed the sort of depressing elements and eventually fighting through them in the past, I'm way burnt out now. Whenever I see a new game or roleplay that outright advertises player(or general) death/has doom&gloom as a background theme, I can only think "Ugh, THIS again? No thanks..." even though the media itself is very well put together.

All in all I wish I could break past that barrier of being burnt out, but I think I've just spent too much time in those types of settings and need to branch out. In the end, I suppose you could say I'm simply...

When people try to jump into a roleplay with stuff that is completely contextually inappropriate for the RP (and post IC in an "Apply" category without waiting or asking for approval first!) so you and a fellow co-GM politely ask them to remove/change said things and to please reread the OOC intro post to better understand the background set out by the GM, but all the guy does is argue with you and insist that he refuses to change it despite being asked several times. So you then reply, still politely, that if that's what they wanted to RP and they won't change to fit in with the story already going in the RP you are coGM'ing, then he should make an RP of his own where it WOULD suitably fit in with the lore, and that he's being kinda rude to keep arguing with us when we are only doing our job and weren't rude or aggressive to the guy in any way at all...

So the guy THEN goes and does the same thing in a bunch of RPs where he is again told it's not a cool thing to do, and he b'awws to that GM that he has been attacked and treated with hate by other members (I.e. our RP since its the only other one in his posting history rn)?! Making US look like nasty/bad people (until they go and read back, if they even do that at all), all because he can't do what he wanted to? Like, seriously.
