The plot will definitely be the focus, but I'll also give everyone ample time for character interaction and chill stuff. If players decide to have a little side plot while the main plot is happening then I won't get in the way and just work with the players interested in doing the main plot at that moment.

Arrogant, self-centered, and quick to temper, Nyx is often summed up by others as a 'pompous ass', and they are seldom wrong. His former position of Second Seat within the Miracle Seven has given him an inflated sense of worth. It's almost instinctual for Nyx to lord his power over others; needlessly reminding them of their inferior abilities when compared to himself. Which is why he finds his current predicament to be such humiliation. Instead of becoming a venerated sorcerer whose name will be forever etched into the annals of history, he now finds himself teaching others to become what he has failed to do. It's all a cruel joke to him.

The primary source of all of his resentment and contempt is his self-proclaimed rival and former First Seat of the Miracle Seven: Weis Lucero. Nyx plans to one day take revenge on Weis, mainly by upstaging him in some grand, elaborate manner. Ironically enough, Weis considers themselves good friends and treats Nyx with nothing but respect and kindness—a gesture not reciprocated by Nyx. Furthermore, they still keep in contact with each other even after graduating, much to Nyx's annoyance.

It isn't difficult to get on Nyx's good side. A simple appeal to his ego works nearly every time. As a professor, Nyx has little interest in the standard curriculum, often choosing to implement his own manner of instruction which are harsh and demanding, bordering on life or death even in some cases. He pulls no punches when speaking with his students and will tell the harshest of truths without batting an eye.

His is indeed a rough exterior, but, perhaps, that will all change with time as he grows closer to his students over the coming semester.

_{✦ H I S T O R Y}

A child born on the evening of a black star, Nyx's father was a trader and his mother a florist. Even as a young child, Nyx had an aptitude for magic and, swiftly, his fascination for Manology—the study of mana—grew. He had few friends growing up and preferred to spend his time in the world of books, especially the ones about heroes and monsters. His favorite heroes were those gifted with great magical powers. Between that and his mana research, Nyx spent most of his childhood in self-isolation.

He entered the academy at the age of 14 with some not-so heroic intentions. Instead of wanting to graduate in order to help the world fight against evil, his goal was merely that of fame and validation for all of his efforts. Within a year, he had joined the Miracle Seven as its Seventh Seat and worked his way to the Second Seat the year after that. His inclination toward the use of darkness-related spells earned him the moniker of the 'Dark Star of the Miracle Seven'. However, he could never eclipse the genius that was Weis Lucero, the former First Seat, and that's where their one-sided rivalry began.

Upon graduation some two years prior to the current date, the former members of the 106th generation of the Miracle Seven went their separate ways but Weis always made it a point to keep in touch with Nyx who he views as his closest friend. With big dreams for his future, Nyx set off on his grand journey to the unknown, seeking to become a legend. But, alas, his dreams would only end up dashed against the rocks.

Everywhere he went, he found it difficult to find adventurer work due to his ego. He wouldn't accept any job he considered beneath his ability. Meanwhile, his rival would take on any job of all kinds and would inadvertently show him up at every turn. Weis was quickly making a name for himself while Nyx spiraled further into obscurity.

That is until his fateful encounter with Avalice's headmaster, Alphonse Augustine. Augustine recognized the former genius and asked him how he had been faring after graduating from the academy. Either too proud or too embarrassed to admit the truth, Nyx said he was pursing ventures other than heroism. To which Augustine asked if he was interested in an open position at the academy during his break from adventuring. Reluctant but in a state of desperation, Nyx accepted, not knowing what future awaits him.

Lexicon: Through his immense magical powers, what was previously a grimoire has reforged itself into a Lexicon—the highest form of a magic tome. Whereas grimoires and spellbooks contain individual spells, a Lexicon contains the 'Language of Mana'. When one understands the language, they can see all of the components of a spell and, using the language, can craft any variety of spells in an instant. There are few individuals throughout Alrune that possesses a Lexicon. Those that do are easily considered geniuses in the magical arts. But even then, the 'Language of Mana' is complex and it would take many lifetimes to grasp its boundless intricacies.

Lexicon Magic: Darkness

✤ Living Element: Nyx creates and manipulates black-colored flames or lightning that has limited sentience. They are more powerful than the same elements cast at a lower class and will consume their respective element to gain potency. The Living Elements' movements are akin to tendrils or tentacles, lending an eldritch effect to their appearance.

✤ Shroud: Nyx opens up a rift to a dark dimension surrounding himself or another person. Spells cast against the shroud at a lower class is devoured immediately, nullifying its effects. While protected by the shroud, the person within cannot move from their location or it is dispelled. Physical force—including magically-enhanced force—will break the shroud with enough damage. The shroud can also be worn as a suit of armor to allow for movement but its nullification effect on spells will drastically lessen.

✤ Doppelganger: Nyx can create clones from his own shadow that can act freely independent of himself. Nyx and his clones have a shared perspective, meaning that their physiological senses are connected. The clones are also limited to casting only lower class spells. Nyx must be able to cast a shadow to use this spell and, at the moment, his limit is ten clones at any one time.

✤ Devouring Rain: Nyx darkens the sky in a limited vicinity and causes it to pour black rain. Contact with the rain causes the gradual draining of mana until complete exhaustion. Nyx is immune to its effects but to keep the spell active means that Nyx's mana also drains albeit at a much slower rate.

✤ Darkeater: While not primarily a physical fighter, Nyx is well-rounded enough to competently engage in melee combat. His preferred weapon of choice is a shadowy sword conjured by his magic. It can 'eat' darkness and shadows in order to store power within the blade which can then be fired off as powerful slashing beams of energy. If the blade is stabbed into a person's shadow, they will be pinned in place until the sword is removed or the influence is broken through force of will.

✤ Still World: Nyx entraps himself and an opponent within a pitch black dimension where one's sight, smell, hearing, and speech are completely unusable. The only reliable way to find your opponent is by sensing their mana. The spell ends when either one person is defeated or Nyx closes the dimension. To an outsider's perspective, the two combatants appear to be trapped within a giant black cube.

✤ Low-Level Craft: Using his knowledge of the 'Language of Mana', Nyx can craft a variety of lower class spells at will.

In the great city-state of Genelogia, there exists an academy with the goal of fostering the talents of those gifted with extraordinary power. Enter: Avalice, the Academy of Might & Magics. A name known to all throughout the world, the fortunate youths who come here and survive the grueling years of academia exit its hallowed halls with the purpose of becoming the world's next legendary heroes! Yes, the ones that common folk will sing songs and write stories about for ages to come. But not every starry-eyed, would-be hero will graduate to the greatest of honors. The courses are tough and the competition tougher still! The graduate rate of Avalice is a dismal 5% of the enormous student population. After all, only the best of the best are fit to be called "Legends".

At the top of the student body hierarchy reigns the Miracle Seven: seven students considered the most powerful in the entire school and the most likely to achieve "Legend" status after graduating. Their powers are so great that they even eclipse most of the professors who teach there. But this is not the story of the Miracle Seven. Quite the opposite in fact. Meet Class Camellia, or Class-C for short. One of the subdivisions in which a student is assigned to, Class-C is consistently ranked as the worst performing class of the academy for nearly a decade now. In those 10 years, not a single student from Class-C has managed to graduate from Avalice.

It’s not necessarily that the students of Class-C are individually the weakest bunch, but they’ve never had a Professor capable of nurturing their true potential. Chalk it up to misfortune or what have you, but it seems the Curse of Class-C is every Professor’s worst nightmare. A new semester dawns on Avalice and, fearing that another year of failure awaits the students of Class-C, Headmaster Alphonse Augustine has hired a recent academy graduate, genius of the magical arts, and former second seat of the Miracle Seven—one Nyx Yuria—to be Class-C’s new Head Professor.

Surely, a former member of the Miracle Seven will finally break this abysmal curse? Unbeknownst to everyone, Nyx is a disgraced graduate. He’s someone who never made it as a hero or adventurer in the real world and constantly lives in the shadow of his self-proclaimed rival: the former first seat of the Miracle Seven during their years at the academy together. Jaded and envious of his vastly more successful peer, Nyx only took the job as an excuse to avoid facing his own failures. All in all, this is starting to smell like a recipe for disaster. Or can Nyx and the students of Class-C band together to finally show the world that they, too, can be legends?

Our story takes place in the lands of Alrune; a high-fantasy-style world rich in mana which flows through all life. In the northwestern continent is where the grand city-state of Genelogia lies and, more importantly, where the Academy of Might & Magics—Avalice—resides. Most of human civilization is settled in the northern lands. The lands to the lower south are collectively referred to as the Dark Continent: the realm of Devils; a place where no one dare treads.

The technology of Alrune places magic constructs at its forefront. Since mana is so abundant, it is used as a primary energy source. Coal, steam, and electricity are on the rise but isn't as prevalent as mana-powered infrastructure. Firearms are an emergent technology but are not favored over the traditional types of weaponry. And magic is always in fashion.

Mana

The source of all magical and supernatural abilities. Mana is an energy that flows through all life but not equally. For instance, flora and fauna have minuscule mana pools compared to that of a sentient being like humans. And even within humans, not every person can tap into their mana pool. Those that can are likely able to shape that mana for all manners of use. The size of a person's mana pool varies but those who have larger mana pools are potentially very powerful individuals.

Every person has a distinctive mana coloration and characteristic. The latter means that when an individual resonates with mana, it gives those sensitive to mana a unique sensation. In a simplistic sense, you can 'feel' the mana, and that feeling varies depending on the person channeling the mana.

Mana, as an energy source, is created by the expulsion and dissipation of mana-based abilities. For instance: when a magic spell is used. The mana pools into either the ground or atmosphere and can then be collected by special machines. Plant-life also expel mana constantly into the atmosphere the same way it does oxygen.

The Classes

Below is a list of the sub-division classes that a student of Avalice can be assigned to. An assessment exam is used to determine placement. Each class is headed by a single Professor and Class Representative chosen among the students of the class. More information will be added as the story continues.

The Miracle Seven

The Miracle Seven is an official designation for the seven most powerful students currently active at the academy. Each individual within the collective possesses extraordinary talent and massive mana pools. They are so powerful that even most professors are inferior to them in terms of abilities. The Seven are ranked in descending order of seats: 1st seat is the most powerful while 7th is the weakest. They are Avalice's greatest chance of graduation and are considered far and wide as the next generation of legendary heroes in the world.

Not only does the title bring them fame and recognition, it also gives them a voice in how the academy is to function. Operating as a council, they can use their administrative powers to affect how the student population is taught and can make changes to any matters regarding student life and extracurricular activities.

All members of the Miracle Seven belong to the special sub-division Class Aster, which has been created specifically for them. They are taught their curriculum by a professor who has achieved 'Legend' status in life and has since retired. At the same time, they also continue to have ties to their previous classes before joining the Seven.

Any student can become a member of the Miracle Seven at any time. All they have to do is be able to defeat any one of the Seven in an officially sanctioned match; thereby taking over that position of the previous Seven member.

Devils

Demonic entities of immense magical powers, it is unknown how they first arrived here on Alrune, but, when they did, they brought with them catastrophe. After a long and brutal war, the Devils are said to have wiped out all of the ancient races including the Elves, Dwarves, Fey, and Giants. But the war also devastated a huge population of the Devils and so they claimed the southern lands; resting in their dark domain ever since.

This spurred the creation of Avalice in hopes of making legendary heroes worthy of fighting the evils of the world and, someday, to stand against the Devils when they rise again. Although, rumor has it that some Devils have wandered into human lands and have tempted humans into a treaty with them: power for a soul as they say...

How many classes are there aside from Class C? Are the other classes special in anyway?

There are 26 classes spanning the alphabet; each headed by a different professor. Mainly the classes are for divvying up the student population but each class fosters its own internal culture and adds to the competitive nature of the academy. As of right now, the only other class that is special is Class-A which only contains 7 students. I think you can figure out who they are lol The professor teaching that class is a retired adventurer who's reached "Legend" status.

Anyway, the main thread is close to done. I'm just trying to finish up my own CS so that everyone can have a reference if needed.
