Well, even a broken clock is right twice a day...

The real point here is that I should never be encouraged. That leads to dark, dark, disturbing places...

Well, there is not a "disagree" button (probably with good reason), so I cannot discourage you that way.

Just let us know when you are done editing the character sheet. Once you are done with that, I will try to approve it as soon as I can.

Oh crap, I forgot to post this. Anyways, I'm going to be sort of busy for now with studying so I'm sorry if I've gotten a bit behind as of late.

No problem. Life always comes before the internet.

Hey... I'm not the one who "Like"d it...

Frankly, @nitemare shape I'm shocked and appalled.

I mean...he is the one who has been suggesting that Arachne's next career path is a cam girl...
*Sideeyes @Blue Demon*

Hmm... I like the app so far...

...but I also question the moral fibre of any new players attracted to our game after my last IC Post...

Or should we be more worried about your moral fiber? ;)

Aubrey Adkins | Kensei | Emily Prichert

Kensei examined in his hand the device that the Hounds had used to send the winged metahuman into a berserker rage. He kept turning the circular gadget, which he had removed from the stomach of the metahuman, over in his palm before pocketing it. The Japanese warrior then turned back towards Pinup and me and walked over to us.

“I’m going to see if I can find any more of these unnaturally enhanced metahumans. I want you and the Jorōgumo look-alike to remain behind and assist the police in helping the bystanders to safety.”

“A what look-alike?” I asked the Japanese warrior.

“But we’ve already shown that we can handle this situation,” Pinup snapped back, although she was ignoring what Kensei had called me.

“This is a job for professionals,” Kensei stated bluntly, “and your friend clearly does not seem well.”

“What I want to know is what you just called me,” I protested.

“I don’t know if this is the right time for this,” Pinup suggested to me.

“It roughly translates to “Prostitute Spider,” Kensei finally explained the meaning of the name. Great, first that snake-girl called me a pornstar. Now this guy has joined the club and he doesn’t even know my secret identity. Or does he somehow? “But you lack the supernatural aura a yokai normally possesses.”

“See, he didn’t mean a thing by it!” Pinup said to me in an attempt to smooth over the situation.

I then sensed someone reach out towards me. I instinctively flinched and hopped to the side. But when I looked back where I felt the hand reaching towards me, I discovered that it was only Pinup trying to pat me on the shoulder.

“My point exactly,” Kensei asserted, probably correctly concluding that I was not entirely alright mentally from my experience with Pinup’s nightmare causing powers. “And you speak as if you know me.”

“You know,” Pinup desperately tried to explain as she saw Kensei’s unamused expression on his face, “Icon, Blue Blur, Archangel. The gang!”

“I’ve never met any of them,” Kensei replied, “but I have heard of Icon.”

“And since when were you friends with that bitch?”

“Who?”

“Archangel…”

“What? Archangel is definitely a dude.”

"And you know the name of that Blue Blur guy, just like the Game Genie?

"You met that loser? Such a pain."

"I mean, he did just try to attack this city this past month. Where were you?"

“This isn’t productive,” Kensei blurred out. “Now if you don’t mind, I have work to do.”

The pavement a few feet down the road began to crumble as something was smashing its way out from underneath it. Chunks of asphalt flew into the air as a hole was dug into the road. From this subterranean breach, another metahuman, who had been driven into a berserker rage like the others, appeared. Its skin had rugged, rocky protrusions, while its hands possessed hardened talons, designed for clawing through the earth.

“So, I guess you have this one,” Pinup gave Kensei some snark. Instead of speaking, Kensei just turned his head back to look at Pinup and gave her a death stare. Then he returned his attention back to the metahuman, who had just dropped back down into its tunnel. At first, we let our guard down, since, at least how it looked to me, we thought that it was retreating. However, when it appeared again, but in a newly created hole behind us, we instantly knew it had no intent on withdrawing. I guess this Kensei was going to need our help.
"Successful"

Has nothing to do with bitterness over having not one, but two character sheets passed over.

I would consider a game that survived Guildfall and still running with a healthy pool of players as "successful."
@Dedonus do you come here just to tell us all how much better CaH is?

Just playing devil's advocate (and using the most successful Hype-styled game in that argument).
<Snipped quote by Dedonus>

Which is why limiting the convoluted nature of some characters that were created simply for the sake of convolution lessens the impact such departures would have.

<Snipped quote by Dedonus>

That's true, but the stronger the concept and the more reliable the player, the more this weakness is mitigated. A paper airplane is inevitably going to land on the ground, but one that's well-folded and uses good materials is going to stay in the air longer than one that's crumpled together and full of holes.

<Snipped quote by Dedonus>

This is true of all games that have ever or will ever exist. All games end. All games eventually give way beneath the weight of continuity they've built up, player fatigue, or people simply "ageing out" of roleplaying. That's not a reason to not do them. It's a reason to make the most of them while they're around, tell the stories you want to tell while you can, and maybe – just maybe – have a little bit of fun and make some friends doing it.

But it is even worse in "fandom" games, like this game.

For example, in these Marvel or DC or One Universe games, players have to apply for canonical characters. When a player disappears, it is not just some random person's OC who can easily be replaced, but rather a specific character, like Captain America, Nightwing, etc. If a new player applies for a character that someone else has abandoned, the new player has to either conform to what is already in the IC or retcon it (which will affect other characters' histories). Furthermore, in team settings, you also have to deal with characters dropping out.

In contrast, in Create-A-Hero, let's say someone applies for a character, gets said character accepted, posts for a little bit, and then leaves for one reason or another. In most cases, that so-called abandoned character can be easily written out of the game. The difference is that someone's abandoned character does not affect future applications unless that said character had made such an impact that it changed the landscape of the game. But in most cases, players who usually drop in a short period of time don't have that much impact on the game. Teams still have issues with players dropping, but Create-A-Hero does not have to worry about the Avengers needing Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Captain America, or the JLA needing Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

So, yes. It is true for all games. But it is even worse for these types of Fandom games.
<Snipped quote by Burning Kitty>

Sure, going "ooh, look, Character (x) is in Setting (y) now!" is interesting for a post or two, but the overwhelming majority of times I've seen this done, a post or two is all we get, and then when the player inevitably abandons them, we're either left with characters that nobody wants to use because that incarnation is unrecognizable, or a big gaping wound in continuity that players have to retcon around.

Honestly, this is a general weakness of these Hype games that are based on Marvel and/or DC lore. It is not the question of if people will drop from the game, but when. This is a generality of all roleplays, even the successful ones. No matter whether it is a mishmash or a twist on the single character, the game will have to deal with inactive characters, whether by having a player pick up someone else' creation (which I honestly have not seen done) or retcon the last version to allow a new one.
