Time: Afternoon
Location: North Pass

A giggle escaped Eris before she smirked at Kaleb and simply nodded in response to her falling into his arms. Words weren’t always needed between the two of them. She watched him enter her room, close her door, and lock it, something she was grateful for. “I couldn’t agree with you more, I think we need a nice break from them. Maybe get you to take me on a date, hmm?” She said in response, a slightly teasing tone to her voice, as she moved over to the bed and sat next to him. She sat quite close to him, grinning at him as she began idly braiding her hair. Kaleb's eyes are intimately focused on her. “I promise to make it worth your while if we do.” She winked at him playfully, wanting to get a rise out of him in some form.

And what she got was an exciting look of curiosity accompanied by a playful grin. Kaleb knew he had Eris exactly where he wanted her right now, but the idea of earning his desires was more delectable. A trading of affection? No, it was a sharing of it as the pair would enjoy every step of the way to gratification. Subtle or obvious. Deep or shallow. Their moments together had always been to their liking.

Kaleb leaned in, his face only inches from hers as his body generated a soothing warmth. Eris' eyes trailed down to his lips for the briefest of moments before they met his eyes once more, a smirk still gracing her own lips.

“Hmmm. I guess I better spoil you huh?” Kaleb spoke softly. They maintained eye contact for several seconds, silently confirming their intentions before Kaleb spoke once more to break the silence. “Come on, let me surprise you then.” He took her hand as he got up from the bed, gently leading her. A small giggle escaped Eris as she made no protest to him leading her wherever he decided he wished to go.

“To be spoiled and surprised? Now that does sound like quite the adventure.” She responded, but bid him to pause for only a moment as she grabbed her coat and put it on. Kaleb had a ring of warmth, but she hadn’t bought herself such a luxury and needed to bundle up a little extra in order to stay warm in the frigid climate of North Pass. She also slipped on some gloves before moving back to his side, her hand finding his as their fingers laced together. “Lead away, darling. You have me quite intrigued by whatever you’re planning within that brilliant mind.”

“You’ll see.”

The two departed Eris’ room and set out to peruse the shops. It was something that had become a bit of a pastime for the two. Besides the promise of blistering cold weather, scenic pseudo-eastern architecture, and warm savory meals, North Pass had little to offer compared to hubs such as Roshmi City or River Port. And so, indulging in delightful treats while roaming from shop to shop with great company was something fun the pair both grew to love. Visiting so many places always allowed for the chance to connect with the locals. Eris especially enjoyed getting some of the delicious treats. Her favorite was the rice cakes and so it was only natural she insisted they get some once they reached the shopping area.

It was this afternoon, however, when he used this activity as a way for Kaleb to throw Eris off the trail for what he truly had in mind. The woman had called his mind brilliant, yet if that were true, Kaleb would have to admit Eris’ was nothing short of blinding. He retained a smug confident expression as they walked side by side, feeling his surprise was safely guarded. However, for Eris, something about his expression keyed her onto the fact that he truly had something else planned. She didn’t say anything, however, as she didn’t want him thinking she was going to catch on to him. Kaleb was quite prideful and if she could bring him joy even just by pretending not to realize he was trying to throw her off, then she would do so. She did briefly wonder what the rest of the group were up to and how that hunt was going. There were plenty of dangerous things within the wilds here in North Pass and she wondered if the hunting group would come across any of them.

Before she realized it, they were standing at the start of a snow-sprinkled cobblestone path leading out of the city. It was here where Kaleb stopped in his tracks, eyeing the path that appeared to span up into the snow-covered hills.

“Ever take this path?” Kaleb asked. Up close the appearance of fresh boot tracks accompanied by the indication of something being dragged was visible in the snow.

Eris took a moment to look down the path. She examined her surroundings, taking in clues and having a feeling she knew what he was now up to, but she still refused to let on. Instead, she would simply answer his question.

“I can’t honestly say I have. I haven’t spent too much time exploring the paths that lead outside of the town.” She said with a small laugh, not entirely a lie. She preferred to stay within the safety of the town as she didn’t wish to find herself in any sort of trouble. While she was quite powerful with magic, yes, she didn’t like having to fight things if she didn’t have to and so she kept herself out of as many situations that could lead to a fight as she could.

“Then I’ll continue to be your guide. Come.” He said as he stepped onto the path with a rare smile on his face. She gave him a suspicious look but still smiled as she followed him down the path.

“How often have you come out here?” She asked him after a few moments of silence. Kaleb briefly peered at Eris from the corners of his eyes a shrugged nonchalantly.

“Botan sent me down this thing once or twice…” He sighed at the thought of the crazy panda man’s training regiment, indicating not having great memories of the path they now walked. “But..” He chuckled as he looked her way again, slightly squeezing her hand. “I’ll make sure you enjoy it.” He promised without having to utter the word.

A small laugh escaped Eris as Kaleb mentioned Botan and the not-so-fond way he spoke of the man, but Eris knew that the time he’d spent with the man had been very beneficial. She was quite glad that she’d suggested he seek Botan out to train. He’d been a good fit for Kaleb, even if Kaleb didn’t think so. “Any time I get to spend with you I can honestly say I always enjoy it so I have no doubts that you’ll make today’s adventure splendid.” She said as she gave him a soft smile and squeezed his hand back.

While continuing along the path, Kaleb suddenly nodded in a direction off of the path, following the tracks left behind by whoever had been ahead of the pair.

“This way. Almost there, trust me.” Eris couldn’t help the internal laugh she had when he told her to trust him. Little did he know he was maybe the only one she trusted and that was quite the big deal. She didn’t even have a chance to comment, however, as they pushed through some shrubbery and found a canine demihuman North Pass local standing at the crest of a steep snow-covered hill with… a sled?

The demihuman nodded with a smile before he and Kaleb reached out toward each other, exchanging amas with a tight handshake.

“The other half as promised.”

“Just keep her in one piece for me.” The demihuman was referring to the sled he arranged to have Kaleb borrow in between the shop perusing.

“Of course!” Kaleb stepped away from the demihuman who was already making his leave.

Eris was quite surprised when she felt her face light up some. She looked to Kaleb whose eyes met hers.

“Oh I haven’t been sledding since I was a little girl!” She said joyfully, having fond memories of going sledding with her mother. She leaned over and kissed Kaleb’s cheek, smiling warmly at him. “Thank you, Kaleb, this is a wonderful surprise.”

“I knew you'd like it.” Kaleb was nearly grinning from ear to ear before quickly mocking a pout. “But is that all I get?” Eris looked at him for a moment before a mischievous grin crossed her features.

“My, my, is someone a bit greedy? Perhaps I planned on giving you more as our little adventure progressed. Reward you for your patience, if you will.” She giggled as she booped his nose before turning towards the sled. She walked towards it, her hips swaying some before she glanced over her shoulder. “Am I going to have to ride down this big hill all alone, or are you going to join me?” She asked him playfully, noticing the flash of excitement on Kaleb’s face. She successfully piqued his interest in what she had in store even more now. It was quite the skill considering how hard-to-please the young man seemed to be with others.

“As if you have to ask after what you just did there.” Kaleb adjusted his equipment, more specifically, his staff that might get in the way when sitting. Once set, he followed Eris to the sled, allowing her to take a seat while he held onto the rear of it. He leaned forward as close as he could without pushing the sled forward so he could speak softly. “Ready?” Eris glanced over her shoulder at Kaleb with a grin, feeling as mischievous as ever.

“Are you?” She asked him as she leaned back into him, pressing herself in closer to him than was actually necessary. The warmth of his body against hers was actually rather pleasant and she was almost able to forget about the cold completely for a moment. The breath of his quiet laughter tickled her cheek just before the sled slid forward.

With as much grace as Kaleb could muster, he seated himself right behind Eris before they picked up too much speed. It was once he was securely seated with his arms around Eris that the moment felt… completely yet pleasantly normal. No war. No magic. The only fantastical occurrence was how pure and cherished this moment was. As they slid down the steep hill, kicking up the snow behind them, laughing with joy as they went further and further along, the moment only grew richer.

As sensational as the moment was, it may be that very element that makes this tale all the more tragic…

“That was…” Kaleb couldn’t find the words as the sled began to slow to a halt. “Blissful?” Eris offered as she looked at him with a joyous grin. Joy. Something Eris hadn't truly experienced in a very long time. To live in this moment would be something she had a feeling she could easily give up everything for.

She found herself moving to get up and as she did she found herself now facing Kaleb. She paused and slowly began leaning in closer to Kaleb once again, their faces inches apart. She was getting lost in the moment, but the snap of a branch brought her back to reality. Alarm crossed her face and she was on her feet in seconds. Her eyes began scanning the trees before a deer ran out and past them. A nervous breath escaped her and she let out a laugh as she turned back to look at Kaleb. “For a second there I thought we might be in trouble.”

“Out here? I doubt it. Annya picked this- ERIS!” He shoved her just in time to avoid a sphere of darkness. At the same moment, Kaleb used his shove as a means to push himself away to narrowly dodge the projectile. Eris let out a gasp as she fell, hitting the snow-covered ground just in time to watch that dark orb hit a tree. Alarm once again crossed her features as she quickly glanced at Kaleb to make sure he was unharmed. She quickly moved towards him, throwing a shield of light around them to obscure them from view for a moment. “Shit.” Kaleb almost appeared shaken.

“I’m unsure of how the fuck they found us other than someone possibly tipping them off, but either way we need to go. Please tell me you’re unharmed.” There was genuine concern and fear in her eyes as she looked at him. She had no clue how many there were just yet, but if she knew dark elves then there likely would be more than just the two of them could handle. And her assumption was made true as the shadows of several trees shifted unnaturally.

“I-I’m…” His eyes were still affixed to the dark orb’s point of origin, and though it was very brief, this was the first time in a long time that Kaleb felt unsure of himself. He had dodged the magical attack, but reality had mercilessly hit him square in the face. However, instead of leaving him shaken, it just made him a tad bit pissed off. “I’m fine!“ He forced the answer out while his palms emitted an orange glow. “We can take th-” Kaleb stopped speaking the moment they caught sight of at least five dark elves bounding up bearing weapons and magic. “I guess you’re right again... Come on, this way!” The two started running but not back up the hill they came down.

However, running would not be enough for Kaleb and Eris, as their pursuers were a trained team of Malthemoor magus agents. There were eight of them, and typically that was enough for these dark elves adept in both magical ability and ranger skills. They were by no means front linemen but running into them spelled either death or capture. The high optics of the war have forced this particular group of agents to venture with about the same amount of equipment a common hunter might or even less to draw less attention than an identifiable dark elf normally would.

Running in the snow wasn’t an easy feat and Eris knew they couldn’t run forever. She needed to figure out how to get them out of there safely. She could use her magic to make them invisible, but that would do nothing for the tracks they would leave in the snow. The same went for creating illusions of them to try and split the dark elves up. They certainly would figure out quickly which were the illusions and which weren’t when the tracks started disappearing. She could portal them out, but she would need a moment to be able to stop and focus on that. She needed a way to stall them for long enough to do so. Wait! That was it! “Kaleb! I need you to-” She was cut off as immense pain shot through her left shoulder and she let out a scream as she stumbled and fell.

“Eris!” He called as he skidded to a stop so he could address her injury. “What do you need me to do?!”

Eris looked down at the dark magic-imbued arrow, feeling like the world was spinning some. Kaleb wanted to help her but there was a far more pressing task.

”T-the trees, Kaleb! Behind us! Burn them!” Was all she could manage to say as she got herself back to her feet. Kaleb wished he could do more for her wound but he’d just need to channel that frustration into his magic. To burn the trees in this majestic wilderness that served as a source of food, shelter, and the identity of this North Pass’ woodlands, was a hard thing to consider sacrificing…

“Fuck ‘em!” Kaleb thrust his palms forward firing a barrage of fireballs at not just the trees, but everything behind them. Kaleb inhaled deeply as he shut his hands while his eyes scanned the scattered flames dancing on the trees and then after the brief pause, he opened his hands with a grunt. Reacting to his actions the already present flames seem to burst with a flash of blue, spreading even more across the bushes and trees. As for Eris, the pain in her shoulder was an annoying distraction, but she tried to push it aside as she started focusing her magic to try and open a portal.

Another magic-imbued arrow flew threw the flames but hit the snow-covered ground. The potency of the darkness was weaker on this arrow but its proximity was too close for comfort. Kaleb positioned himself in front of Eris as he drew his bo staff as streaks of dark magic were being used to bat out some of the flames. Kaleb could have expended more flames, but he had learned early on that it was easier to manipulate what was already present than to create something new. Spread, boys. Burn this whole motherfucker down.

Opening this portal was proving to be far more difficult than it normally was for Eris and it was frustrating her. Perhaps it was the stress of the situation or the injury, but this one wasn’t as easy to open as the one she threw Bowyn through. She watched as another arrow came flying through and she let out a frustrated scream, letting her emotions get the better of her. Apparently, that’s what she needed, though, as the portal opened. She immediately knew she wouldn’t be able to hold it for long and she felt her heart sink as she knew what she was going to have to do.

“Kaleb, you need to go. I’ll distract them, but you need to take this portal to safety please.” She said to him, implying that she wasn’t going to follow. He barely looked over his shoulder at her before returning his sights back toward the approaching dark elves.

“Tch. Not gonna happen. Get in there! We’re leaving together!” There was a sudden spread of pitch blackness beyond the flames. Eris had spun on him, ready to snap at him, but then she saw what was beyond the flames. They didn’t have time, she needed to do something to get him through that portal fast. She reached out and grabbed his hand, pulling him towards her as if she were heading towards the portal too. She paused, however, and turned to look at him. Before he could say anything, her lips met his in a kiss that would rattle the stars. When she pulled away there were tears in her eyes as she looked at him.

“I will find you again, Kaleb, whether in this life or the next.” With those words, Eris shoved him hard through the portal. By the time he even realized what Eris had done, it was too late.

“Eris, please!” Like the maw of a colossal beast, the portal consumed him before snapping shut. The moment he hit the smooth stone ground he whipped around only to find an empty wall of a dimly lit alley in place of Eris and the chaos she had been in the midst of.

“Eris… Come on, stop playing around. Come through this… fucking wall. Please.” The realization was setting in for him, but he didn't want to accept it. For he feared if he did, the guilt might destroy him.

Viktor was in front of the wall by the time it was blasted open due to Kass’ and Alisa’s efforts. With the wall breached so suddenly (the shock). Zach only needed to add in the flash (the awe). The excitement Viktor had been feeling since the drive to the location had peaked the moment Zach spoke the magic words.

“Skrowerif! Selkraps!”

At La Hoya, he left to counter surveil. In Gotham, he deployed without his equipment. Then Atlantis had him completely out of his own element…. And Vegas… let’s not even bring that mission up. This was the first time in months that Viktor felt he could use everything he had at his disposal. One might assume he set things in motion to be this way.

“I know you’re all wondering what we’ll do once we break into the building in such a manner. It is very different than what we have typically done, but it is simple. As soon as Zatara disorientates our enemies within… We neutralize as many of them as possible. We lack the intel and waiting is not an option any of us should be comfortable with. So we overwhelm the enemy before they even realize what’s happening.”

This was Viktor’s guidance on the way to the facility, and it was current his objective, even now.

He lunged through the opening first as Zach’s magic not only visually and auditorily disoriented anyone in the large area but the sparkles, something Viktor assumed was something Zach had improvised due to how dark the inside of the facility was. Good thinking!

Only one person was in view, skillfully hanging from the overhead walkway equipped with a rifle. There was a brief moment where he felt he may have led everyone into a trap but there was no stopping now. No hesitation. Viktor leaped upward and grabbed the rifle by the barrel before punching toward her stomach, hoping a hard strike to her core would weaken the grip of her legs on the walkway. Whether she dropped or not, Viktor was taking her weapon with him.

"No come?"

Myra’s question caused Astra’s brows to raise. She had heard the demon’s many times over the past few months but it was still something that got a visible reaction out of her. She approached Myra before gently rustling the hair atop her head. Astra kept up a warm smile.

“Don’t worry about me. As I said, I’ll catch up. You’ll hardly notice I’m gone.” Astra winked before turning from Myra and walking off in the opposite direction with her purchased camel by her side.

“We move, Myra. Now!” Vrexen ordered.

When the four finally set out, Vrexen tore off his cloak as it would impede his movement while traveling. The downside was…

“My nemesis…” He looked up at the pink-hued sun in the sky. "If only I could reach you…” He growled before lunging forth to keep up with Maeryn riding his flightless bird.

“INSTEAD, THIS ANGUISH I FEEL SHALL BE DELIVERED TO MY VICTIMS!!!”

Meanwhile, Astra had arrived at the Odds and Ends stall looking more relaxed than usual.

“Hello there! Is there anything you might be interested in? An outfit? Or perhaps a fine bag? Or better yet, both!” The stall owner greeted.

“Listen!” Her tone was surprisingly sharp. “I know what I want, and if I want anything else, I’ll know that too.”

“Uh..”

“Just let a girl take her time, okay? Halastra knows I have plenty of it to waste right now.”

The group of five venture forth into the wilderness with Mensai taking the lead. Along the way, Darius couldn’t help but feel anxious at the thought of getting into a real fight with what he could only assume from Menzai’s instructions was a dangerous creature. It was during the trek, that Darius attempted to be sly while walking closely beside Menzai. “So… I wonder if this fog beast is of fog or just in the fog y’know?” Of course Darius failed at trying to squeeze a bit of extra information out of Menzai as he always had.

Fortune slightly favored him as his question might have been answered when the group approached and stepped into an unnaturally thick fog. It was cool against his skin but not in a refreshing way. The cold touch of the fog threatened to form goosebumps across his skin. And the smell… It wasn’t awful but it made him ponder what could be producing such a scent. Shit is about to get real… He hadn’t said a word in a minute or two which wasn’t normal of him. Darius was just too nervous about the situation at hand.

Then he heard it, the sounds from the creature briefly stopping him in his tracks. He sighed as he realized his instincts took hold of him and continued with the others. Looking at each of them, he wondered how they were holding up. Everyone was quiet, so it was hard to tell, but if Darius were to guess, he might have been the most bothered by the situation. I have them with me though. We’ll beat this thing together. He tightened his grip around the knife he had grabbed earlier. He felt something run down his face. Am I really sweating? Come on it can’t be that bad. He wiped away the droplet that had run along his jawline just before Menzai came to a halt

“The beast lurks within to the northeast about twenty-two feet within. I shall lead you until we are nearly upon it then from that moment forth it shall be up to the four of you to determine how to handle the creature. Remember my rules and know that I will give no aid nor advice unless things go dire which I will give the command to retreat. One warning… Refuse and you will remain at the village. You merely need to knock it unconscious for victory though if you slay it then I will offer a bonus reward to each of you.”

Darius gave Menzai a silent nod as he looked into his left hand which he used to wipe his face. He raised his eyebrow for a moment. “Is..?” He looked around at the surrounding fog and for a moment wafting his left hand around as he did so. “Of course!” Darius covered his mouth after the exclamation. “Sorry, I thought I was so nervous I was sweating, but it’s vapor in the fog. I mean, I’m not nervous. Just thought that sweat equaled nervousness, which was kinda silly to think I was in the first place. Anyway, no more shouting out of me.”

After some time, the group continued. With each step, Darius slightly winced. He hated the feeling of mud under his feet, and that’s exactly what this felt like. Why couldn’t we have just fought a firebreathing dragon in a cave or a giant cyclops in the hills? I’d be away from my element but this kinda sucks.

Lorenzo held his ground so sure that he had asserted himself, something he had rarely indulged in. He wanted so badly to smile at such a grand moment but the confrontation was far from over. He’d have to keep up his farce of aggressiveness to ironically stay out of trouble, or so that is what he believed. Surprisingly even the vagrant woman had reinforced him despite their initial interaction.

It was Charlotte’s arrival that caused the duke’s eyes to widen some. He hadn’t even granted thought to the fact that he was causing such a huge scene during what was supposed to be a calming morning feast.

"Um, is everything okay?" Her words softened his expression as his goal was not to embarrass her but instead be like a frigate bird and intimidate an unruly patron.

“Of course, Charlotte. Just having a slight disagreement is all.” He attempted to downplay the moment but caught her scowling at the man he was having trouble with. Lorenzo would do anything to keep his dear Lottie out of situations like this.

He had started to mentally find some way to gain control of things while he felt he could when the strangest thing happened…. Charlotte actually knew the vagrant. By name? This was just another concern to put atop the pile Lorenzo shamefully owned. He would definitely have a talk with her later. Charlotte had knack for bringing home oddities, people included.

"Hello again, Ruby. It's nice to see you... You have picked out an impressive selection of waffles for yourself there, I see."

“Hello Charlotte. Oh, dear. You must get yourself a plate… Did you ever find your papa?”

“You know her?” Lorenzo would have said more but Dr.John Williamson had arrived and in style. Lorenzo wouldn’t say it out loud but the two-finger mock salute was absolutely stunning and something he wished to use himself… and so he did just that. He returned the gesture with a slight nod.

“Greetings to you as well Dr. Williamson. It is a pleasure to see you again.” Lorenzo said almost smitten with the presence of good company. Lorenzo had nearly forgotten his altercation that was still very present as the man with the blond slicked back hair was fuming now. The duke had invited not one, but two people to join him in the holding up of the waffle line. At first, he thought himself outnumbered until he heard the mumbled complaints from those behind him. Besides, he was dealing with Duke Vikena, the fool of the royal court. The patron balled his fists and let his voice carry with intensity!

“NO MORE! The only fool that’ll be in the damned newspaper is you, the waffle bitch, the fucker in the green, yes you! And your whore of daughter!” The man took a single step forward, asserting that he wouldn’t be backing down. “The ‘Whore of Veirmont’ is bound to surpass her father and hop on every single Alidasht-shezzy-prince cock, you rat-faced son of a bitch!” The man quickly reminded him that the issue had not simply gone away, and Lorenzo couldn’t agree more. The man never cared much about the soiling of his own name, but Charlotte was off limits! He gripped the plate in his hand as he got ready to shout back but the other man spoke sooner.

“...”

“And you fucking stand there and block us commoners from enjoying delicious waffles! Is that all Duke Lorenzo is good for?! Ruining every fucking event with his presence?! Or is the bastard only good at getting away with murdering his cunt of a wife aye?!”

“...”

“Move out of the way! We’re hungry back here!”

“Stop this senseless bickering! I want waffles!”

“Is that crazy duke really holding up our breakfast?!”

“You hear them or are you fucking deaf, Duke Vikena?! Move the fuck on so we can have our waffles!” The man stepped closer to the frozen Lorenzo. “Move, won’t you!” Despite his words he wasn’t asking.

“...”

“For fuck sake, I’ll just take em!” The man proceeded to shove Lorenzo, but was gripped by his hands and swung into the serving table, knocking the table with the remaining waffles over. In the process, Lorenzo had dropped his own empty plate onto the grass.

“Have them then!” Lorenzo watched as the patron toppled over the falling table and onto the ground taking every single waffle left with him.

“WHAT IN THE FUCK?!

“THE WAFFLES!”

What had Lorenzo done now?

Think like your butler if that’s what you’re fixin’ to make him out to be.” Slick turned completely so he could face Rosaria as she caught up to his place on the edge of the oasis.

Exerting his will over his very element, Slick began manipulating the general direction of the wind toward themselves. Even when he dropped his hands down the wind continued to pull in their direction “No need to play fair, princess. Life ain’t a game.” His words were filled with a cruel type of wisdom.

“So make us unseen will you.” It almost sounded like an order… almost.

“I agree…. And disagree…” Vrexen narrowed his eyes with a low growl. He wanted to crash into his foes with all his might. Stalking was enjoyable but wanted more than to sneak around. What if they ended up empty-handed? Vrexen shook away the thought. “Astra… speak.” He ordered her to give her input on what Maeryn had said.

“Of course Lord of Violence.” She played along with a grin. “I think Maeryn has a point. I mean, I still want to buy some stuff, but I can catch up if I’m fast. Not like I’m the combat type anyhow.”

“Yet. As my second disciple, you will be powerful… or you will die weak.” Vrexen was a constant reminder to Astra that she couldn’t be useless to the group.

“Understood. Allow me to grab some things so I might assist you Lord Vrexen. I may not possess the strength you do, the swiftness of Myra, or the skills of Maeryn, but I have a way to contribute. Trust me.”

“Trust? No, prove it. We will continue to Dugmghord with Maeryn’s plans leading us. He has proving to do as well, yes Maeryn?” Vrexen actually smirked. He wanted someone to give him a reason to spill their blood across the hot sand.

And so the whole group minus Astra continued on toward the ever-testing desert.

“Have you ever committed to a deed out of the goodness of your heart with the most benevolent of intention, only to have it grab the nearest musket and blow your face clean off? If it hasn’t, then you are far too lucky… If it has, then just imagine it occurring every waking day of your life…“

Lorenzo watched with the utmost confusion as the woman he assumed was just a hungry vagrant performed the oddest dance had ever seen. He looked over his shoulder at the other attendees behind him, searching for some cue he had missed. He had been away from public events for nearly a year so he might have understood not being in the loop of new norms and practices. Unfortunately, every face he caught sight of wore the same expression of bewilderment. When he returned his sights forward, he caught the woman giving him what he thought was a very misplaced wink. Blinking rapidly, Lorenzo could feel he was beyond his depth with this woman who made him feel oddly embarrassed. He didn’t know what to do. How was he meant to challenge this? With conformity or ire?

Luckily, for the time being, her focus was gathering as many waffles onto her plate as possible. However, Lorenzo could hardly keep his own focus off of her. He curiously watched for what odd thing she might do next, and he wouldn’t be left disappointed. Confused, yes, but not disappointed. Could she perhaps be… ‘on the stuff’? Lorenzo strained his eyes a bit as if he would magically identify some indication of drug addiction besides the woman’s clearly visible behavior and unfitting attire.

Then the third or maybe it was the fourth strangest thing that occurred. The odd young woman had placed so many waffles on her plate that a trumpeter began playing a celebratory tune. Now look, Lorenzo was a lover of waffles himself but even he wouldn’t dare to take one of each kind like she had and-

“What on heaven’s earth…” Lorenzo quietly uttered as he watched the woman gorge on the waffles before even making her way from the serving table! He wanted to hurry and grab a waffle or two but he was afraid the woman might do something too wild for him to be prepared for. So instead, he took his time with short and slow steps toward the serving table. He winced and gripped his plate tightly when she suddenly shrieked at the trumpet player in excitement. He was getting so close to the waffles, but was it truly worth it? He could still smell the pancakes. Maybe he could turn back, yes? No, it was too late! It was when her eyes met his form again that he mentally prepared to smash his plate into the woman’s face out of fear for his… life? Fear for something! I don’t know what she intends to do to me, but I must not let her do it! Where’s Lottie?! He whipped his head around looking for Charlotte, but there were far too many people blocking his view and he’d consider himself a damned fool if he stepped out of the waffle line while he was so close to the serving table now!

“THESE ARE GOOD! PILE THEM UP!”

With conformity or ire?

“Uh… Yeah! I must try them! YES!” And so Lorenzo made his choice. He nodded at the woman happily in an effort to put himself in her good graces. Whatever that meant. He inched closer to the table but, unfortunately, moved closer to her as well. In the process of reaching for an unclaimed blueberry waffle, Lorenzo found his face mere inches from none other than a glob of chocolate chip waffle offered by the strange woman with a smile that made Lorenzo so frightened inside that he had to continue to submit to her crazed antics. A duke must do what he must… I pray this waffle is not my last. He winced, before taking a bite from the fork. Initially, he chewed awkwardly, but the taste of the scrumptious chocolate chip waffle nearly removed the desperate duke from the moment. “You’re right young lady. These are indeed delicious! I dare say the best waffles I’ve had outside of Veirmont!” No longer fearfully conforming to the silliiness, Lorenzo found himself genuinely pleased with what he had the opportunity of indulging in.

“Hey can you imbeciles get a move on! You fools are not the only ones in line!” A patron shouted causing Lorenzo to face him apologetically. “Yeah, you! And your bitch there! Hurry it up so I can eat some waffles, damn it!”

Again Lorenzo was given a choice. The short man before with slicked-back blond hair was far too normal to seem as frightening as the vagrant. He wasn’t one for confrontation, but he very much disliked undeserved insults.

With conformity or ire?

Lorenzo furrowed his brow intensely but remained where he was.

“Do you have any idea who you speak to?! And you call me the fool?! I am the venerable Duke of Veirmont!” The trumpeter abruptly ceased playing his tune the moment the duke raised his voice. Lorenzo was all in now. He raised his arms up like a victorious gladiator, his empty plate still in his right hand. “You must be illiterate, sir! You must be! Because did today’s paper not warn you of the Duke of Veirmont?! The warmonger! The fucker of counts! Hmm?!” Lorenzo’s face held an intensity that was almost never seen, his facial scars only adding to the intimidating aura he managed to pull out of his ass. “You will wait right there… patiently! Or you may find your name graced along mine in the Caesonia News tomorrow.” Lorenzo briefly narrowed his eyes leaving his threat to the man’s own imagination who was more disgusted than afraid of what Lorenzo even inferring. “Hmph.” And with that Lorenzo turned back to the serving table.

Location: Kobra Facility, New Mexico
Interactions: The Team, specifically Aleen’a @baraquiel

“Clean them up and then we'll use our secret weapon to breach the facility,”

Viktor clenched his jaw beneath his mask as he mentally went over the team’s hastily concocted plan. It wasn’t one he particularly enjoyed but he surprisingly had a bit of faith in it. It was a far cry from the squid debacle. He couldn’t afford to be so critical. Not when there was someone who needed rescuing. To have Riley be the bait for discovering this location was a dire risk but the team was left with few options after what occurred at the cafe with the mystery girl.

So the plan was laid out as such…

“We don’t have much to go on, yes, but waiting isn’t much of an option. Luckily we were provided with a rough layout of the facility due to the capabilities of our tracker. Courtesy of the League.”

“First, we’ll take out any security measures they have at the exterior of the base. Then we move into breaching the facility. We are unaware of any exterior electronic surveillance, so once we take out the guards, we’ll need to hit Kobra with some shock and awe. With a combined strike from a few of our heavy hitters and some flare from Zach… We’ll hit the enemy before they even have the chance to realize what’s happening…”

In real-time, Viktor positioned himself behind a boulder and equipped his collapsed bow. He strung a blunt-tipped arrow with his mark being the guard in the tower. With Aleen’a in position, and the others lacking much range, he released the arrow from the incredibly weighted drawstring. The arrow struck the tower guard with concussive force knocking him down and out.

“Brightheart. Strike him now.” He ordered over comms as he already had another blunt arrow strung. Without waiting any longer, he let the second arrow fly, hitting the guard with the same effect as the first. With Aleen’a already engaged, it was up to Alisa, Kassy, Ja, and Zach to perform the shock and awe. The first three would bust through the right side of the facility and stand back to allow Zach to add the flare.
