Nature Mana! So his healing spell already utilised a different form of mana than his Mana Orb and presumably his Shield spell; that information would potentially come in useful later on and he would have to add it to the list of things he wanted to experiment with when he next got the chance. That was starting to become a very long list.

For the moment however he needed to restore his mana and unfortunately he had left all of the mana crystals he had gathered behind in his haste to come help this Slime. Turning towards the creature to let him know he was leaving, Oberon couldn’t help but recoil as his vision was suddenly filled by the pseudo-pod reaching towards him. As the cool membrane of the Slime touched his forehead and the voice sounded out in his mind, however, he relaxed as he began to realise that the action was not hostile.

“Don’t mention it; that’s why I picked Pixie in the first place. Just try not to eat any more bombs.”

As the Slime rolled away with some sudden purpose Oberon also sprang into action, running back to where he was practising earlier and picking up one of his discarded mana crystals. Crushing it in his hand he let his mana refill before grabbing the other crystals off of the ground and taking to the sky with Lesser Flight.

You have used a Mana Crystal. MP is fully restored.
2 Mana Crystals added to inventory.
1 Flame-Touched Mana Crystal added to inventory.
System:Oberon

Ascending until he had a vantage point that allowed him to see more of what was going on, Oberon turned in a slow circle to get a better idea of where everyone was and what was happening. Aside from the explosion it seemed like a group of lizards had attacked some of the others, but that situation had already been swiftly dealt with. There was some commotion happening over by the wall as well, with a large slime that had arrived with the others pressing itself forcefully into the wall for no obvious purpose.

Despite the abrupt burst of activity there didn’t actually seem to be anything that needed Oberon’s immediate attention. Slowly drifting back down to the ground the Pixie’s mind was already starting to wander back to what he had just learned; his healing spell used a different kind of mana than his other spells, but as far as he could tell they didn’t feel any different to cast. That could just be due to the fact that he was casting a spell that was innate to his species however, so he was just casting on instinct. It was possible some creatures just had certain affinities for certain kinds of magic after all; he might have an easier time casting nature spells than, say, fire or ice spells.

Well, that was something he could think about more later; for now he should probably fly around and make sure no-one was hurt in that lizard attack. Before he left he cast a Shield I spell on himself, observing the spell as he did so to try and glean a bit more information from his upgraded analysis skill; he was fairly sure the spell was non-elemental, but it never hurt to make sure.

Taking to the sky again with Lesser Flight, Oberon flew over to the small gathering of creatures he had seen earlier, the ones surrounding by dead lizards. Landing in front of the Dire Rats, hopefully making his entrance obvious enough that they wouldn’t be startled, Oberon approached them cautiously. “Hi, I’m Oberon. Do you guys need any help? Are any of you hurt?”

They wouldn't be nothing, but they would be drastically weaker than intended. Iron Man may not completely helpless without his suit, but he is definitely far weaker than he would be normally.

It's not an issue anyway, I'll just use a different character, it was just a restriction I did not expect.
Why are the technology based characters ruled out, though?
Don't characters like iron man, tenno(warframe), guardians(destiny), necrons(warhammer40K), masterchief(Halo), batman(DC) or Optimus Prime (transformers) have powers that still make them effective, even without their weapons?

Technology based characters was kind of a broad statement so I apologise about that. I meant characters who gain all or most of their abilities from using technology, someone like Captain Cold or Syndrome i.e. regular humans with powerful weapons.

You could probably still make the characters, but instead let the powers of the weapon be the powers of your characters.

That would make them a different character though. I'd still be able to use the same powers but it would completely alter their backstory.

Some of your examples raise an interesting questions though. @MikkishtheLeprechaun, do our characters also start without armour? What about stuff like magic rings that aren't weapons but which grant abilities?

... in my defense, I had already written Jasmine's departure from the square before you sent Sana looking for her. I assumed you were going to write a follow up with Sana catching up to Jasmine but I guess you were waiting for me to write something letting you know where Jasmine was?

My next planned scene with Jasmine was going to be inside the Water Dorm, but that can change. Let me know what you want to do and let's figure something out.
7. You have no weapons to begin with, but will find some later. Ammo is not unlimited, however, and melee weapons can break.

This rules out any kind of technology based character, unfortunately. In fact, not being able to bring your own weapons rules out my top two character choices for this RP.

Also, you should maybe make it clearer in the first post that this RP is going to involve battling canon characters with our OC's. That was the main draw of this RP for me, but anyone stumbling on the thread at this point wouldn't get that from the first post as it is now.
Anyone have any character ideas already?

I have a few potential ideas. Which character I use kind of depends on how strong they're supposed to be.

Rule 3: Posting Length: Please keep posts between one and three paragraphs. This RP is in the casual category for a reason.

I'm going to break this rule so hard. I can be incredibly verbose, but I will try to cut down on that.

Well, here's my character, adapted from a previous Pokemon RP than fell through. The 3000 base state limit was more annoying than I thought, even though I knew that means a average base stat total of only 500; I had to change my team around a little to accommodate.

Touma’s quick retreat from the square had nothing to do with not wanting to be caught up in the argument between Kanna and Jasmine. It was simply a coincidence that he had taken the first opportunity he could to extricate himself from that situation and then left fast enough that neither girl could say anything to stop him. Or at least, that was his story and he was sticking with it.

It was never a smart idea to get between those two when they were like that; few people in the academy could stand up to Kanna’s iron will when she had made her mind up about something, but even she occasionally gave ground when Jasmine felt strongly enough to oppose her. Nothing good would come from him trying to add his own opinion into the mix, not that he had any strong feelings about the matter either way. Whatever the others decided to do about this partnering thing was fine with him; he would just go along with the decision and focus on his own duelling like he always had. So long as they didn’t end up making an alliance with the Synchro dorm.

Speaking of which…

Up ahead he could make out the backs of two other students, both wearing the signature white uniforms that marked out the members of the Synchro dorm from the other dorms; what’s more, judging by the blue and white hair the duo sported respectively, it was none other than the king douche himself and his second-in-command. Well, speak of the devil and he shall appear; of all the people he could have run into it would just have to be Masaru wouldn’t it?

Touma was just considering turning around and heading back the other direction when a sudden shout from off to the side stopped him. Evidently the other two had heard it as well, as they gave each other a quick look before rushing towards the noise. It was only at this point that Touma looked around and saw where he was; in his haste to leave the square, of his own accord and for no other reason, he had been walking in a random direction for a while now, somehow ending up on the path to the Earth dorm. How or why he had ended up here wasn’t important however, as he too rushed into the trees to investigate the noise.

Following the glimpses of white coats he saw through the foliage Touma arrived on the scene just in time to see a black coated figure pick a card up off the forest floor; though he couldn’t see his face the obnoxiously large and ridiculously shaped hair style gave them away immediately and Touma couldn’t keep the sneer off of his face as he recognised Keitaro. His presence, coupled with the scream, could only mean trouble; especially since he had had a nagging thought in the back of his mind for a while now that the scream had been familiar.

When he saw the person slumped against the tree Touma froze shock, though a rapidly rising anger meant he didn’t stay that way for long. “Keita!” If the blue blazer hadn’t given it away the mop of vivid red hair, the colour far livelier than the person it belonged to, definitely would have. Touma rushed towards his fallen dorm-mate, bumping Masaru aside in his haste, coming to a stop as he kneeled down next to Keita.

The smaller boys face was a mess of bruises, one eye swollen completely shut and his lip cut and bleeding; he was breathing heavily and hadn’t responded at all to his shout, but he seemed to be awake at least if a little out of it. Glancing down Touma could see that Keita’s duel disk was still active, though his deck had fallen out and his cards were scattered around him.

It didn’t take a genius to figure out what had happened here. Keitaro’s duelling style had always been a little excessive and it wasn’t rare for his opponents to walk away from a duel with him with a couple of bruises to show for it. Even so, he had never seen things go this far; although, that may have had something to do with the fact that all of the duels he had seen Keitaro fight had been in front of an audience. Away from the arena or the crowds, away from prying eyes, was this the kind of duellist Keitaro was?

Standing up suddenly Touma spun to face Keitaro, who was still looming behind them. He grabbed a handful of the other student’s shirt and pulled him forward to snarl in his face, ignoring the fact that the other buy stood a couple of inches taller than him. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, punk?”

@Ammokkx
Yeah, NPC is kind of a misnomer. They are side characters controlled by the player.
