Current Noble Arms is now either four years old, or three years and eleven months. The third thread had lasted for more than one year.

My Roleplay, Noble Arms: The ASEAN War, will reach its 4th year in June or July. It's been a long journey.

Despite its massive flaws, my RP, Noble Arms: The ASEAN War, is still one of the longest ongoing RPs in RPGuild - It turns 4 years old in July and the current thread itself is more than a year old.

@ArmorPlated, That's actually a laudable attitude. That said, it's useful to keep the OOC active, so can you post here every once in a while?
@Shin, @ArmorPlated, your CSes?
<Snipped quote by Letter Bee>

ahh, alright. I can work with that. I think I've got a character concept I can use, though I'd like to bounce some ideas off you before I post anything concrete.

Please do; I'd welcome it!

8 feet? that's basically power-armor with highheels.

Oh, I meant eight meters, not feet.
Saw your Interest Check, seems interesting enough, and I've always had a soft spot for big stompy robots.

intro post says NCs are all humanoid, but the sheet implies there are non-humanoid NCs? need more info on that. Also, what's a standard fight look like with these things? Are we talking Chromehounds, Armored Core, Mechwarrior?

P.S. what's the scale as well? is there david-vs-goliath size variation?

Majority of Mechs are humanoid, but if your brain is flexible enough, you can pilot a non-humanoid NC. Also, it's closer to Anime, sadly.

Scale is variable; most Mechs are 8 feet tall, but larger models exist.

Gilgamesha Ascot (NPC) and Alexander Ascot

Gilgamesha's chains didn't end up crashing into the other building - they were too strong to be yanked by Galbrek's chains - but they missed the wannabe villain anyway. The woman would have cursed at the 'disrespectful brat', but Alexander Ascot, her son, intervened and said:

"No, mother, we need to make sure that William and the others are safe. We'll press charges against Mr. Ravenovich later." Why am I the only relatively sane man in my family? And with that, he went back to his car and took out some first aid kits and a box of donuts and more self-heating coffee cups. He then gestured to his mother and Michael to come with him, and the two would then go to where Meredith and Anna were treating the wounded members of the 'ad-hoc team'.

Gilgamesha waved to Meredith, saying: "Hi, Mer! How are you - Wait, did your mother tell you that sort of clothing would increase your power?!" Her smile turned into a sigh. "You do realize that Mona - No, I should refrain from badmouthing your mother behind her back; that's just bad form. Even if she is a bit of a -"

"Mom!" Alexander cut her off. "Mrs. Blackgate already thinks you're holier than thou and a pest! Don't give her more cause for that!" A sigh. "Do you have something that can empower Half-Demons, though?"

"Sure!" Gilgamesha then conjured up a golden, glowing chalice that dripped with black and boiling ooze. "The Grail of Corruption; I never leave home without it!"

She then quaffed a draught of said ooze as Alexander's palm met his face. "Don't set a bad example, Mom!"

He then looked around the ad-hoc crowd of spectators, and shouted as authoritatively as he could: "Your Tournament is safe; it's outside my jurisdiction! Note though that this untoward incident was caused by one Galbrek Ravenovich, a half-demon with the power to create sapient mannequins and has a hypnotic gaze."

Alexander would then take out his phone and project a photo of Galbrek (taken while his face was bruised by his mother's fist) onto the nearest billboard. "I now announce this! A reward would be offered for any information on Galbrek Ravenovich, who is officially wanted for attempted kidnapping and destruction of property, and this reward would be doubled for his actual capture!"

"Also, again! Not here to persecute your harmless fun, so carry on, citizens!" Ugh, I feel as though I am using Chaotic means for Lawful ends - the arrest of Galbrek - too many times already...

Further Elaboration on Haven's Political System

Theoretically, the bedrock of Haven is the municipality; a village, town, or city district. These municipalities are the main unit of power, with their leadership elected directly by the people. These municipalities then band together to form regional councils for mutual aid and protection; said regional councils then elect a 'Federal Assembly' that governs the economies of scale needed for national defense and even expansion. Note though that the highest positions of power, such as the Presidents (plural) of Haven, are explicitly open to direct voting from the general populace.

The Presidents of Haven are a Man and a Woman; not necessarily husband and wife, who are supposed to share power and responsibility as equals. While it does not always work that way (due to power politics and human nature), whenever it does, the unity of strong but complementary personalities creates a whirlwind of strength that allows great things to happen. This principle of (theoretical) gender equality is enshrined in the Havnenite Constitution, as well as by the various Political Parties of Haven. Not merely that, but the Constitution requires that a set percentage of Government posts be reserved for Women and Minorities.

However, the requirements of the Havenite Constitution do not gel well with a significant number of towns and municipalities, especially those who had elected leaders who are opposed to the liberal and progressive elements of the Havenite Constitution. These towns and municipalities are an increasingly powerful element in Haven as the surface continues to be rebuilt to prosperity. To counteract these tendencies, the Havenite Constitution has declared the formation of 'mobile courts', a semi-nomadic establishment of judges, lawyers, and guards who go around town to town administering justice; sometimes roughly.

This Constitution, however, has been accused of favoring only one of Haven's many political parties; the Democratic Union Party of Haven. The DUPH, though dedicated to direct democracy, feminism, rights for minorities and the breakup of statist and corporatist monopolies, is also accused of being heavy-handed in enforcing its agenda; and by that, it is not afraid to manipulate events and use arbitrary force against people it deems 'backward and bigoted'. Ironically, with the surface becoming richer and richer, the DUPH's party members are getting richer as well, a hypocrisy that is called out by the other opposition parties.

Speaking of the surface becoming richer and richer, most property is under the ownership of worker and farmer co-operatives, with an opt-out option for individual farmers who just want their own small plot of land. These co-operatives and small farmers have managed to increase production in the remaining arable lands of Australia, the remaining mines and quarries, and even small 3D-Printing Workshops that make manufactured goods. There are no direct or indirect taxes; instead, money is extracted through tariffs and tolls, as well as the sale of natural resources and agricultural products to smugglers and underground networks...as well as Tshwane, Al-Amir, and even Denver-Vegas (as it's against Red-Star).

Haven's increasing 'wealth through production' is, as mentioned, a double-edged sword that increases the wealth of special interests like political parties. This has led to trouble in a few cases, mostly turf wars between towns and sets of towns. The Havenite People's Protection Forces, the standing army of Haven, has also made its presence felt in politics and has been accused of acting as the Democratic Union Party of Haven/DUPH's armed wing instead of a neutral force. Nevertheless, Haven is a paradise for freethinkers and those disillusioned with the MegaCorps for now. After all, being allowed turf wars is itself a right, right?
@DeadDrop, forgot to ping you, but here is the OOC Thread.

William Ascot

William looked at Vernon, then the others, then Masami, before saying: "I don't suppose apologies will work; it seems. Even so, I have to apologize; I feel bad about letting all hell break loose." He turned to Wolf, "Wolf, it's all right that you're doing this for Andras alone; she's made enemies today, enemies that would probably get a sense of what I - or we - can do. It's all right. Note though that if we're going to see Meredith, we'll have to leave my Mother behind; she and Meredith's own Mom...don't get along."

Understatement of the day. Nevertheless, Ascot turned towards Andras and said, "So, I suppose I should give you a chance to leave as your life is now in danger. Are you going to take it? I really hope you won't, but again, you should have that chance."

Turning back to Masami, the boy would say, "Well, it's complicated. Vernon - my boyfriend - was with me, then he fought with Wolf - the armored guy - when Wolf's girlfriend insulted my plan. Then Vernon got blackmailed - Or at least, I presume it's blackmail - into attacking me by a mysterious person who was allied with an enemy. Said enemy is the half-demon whose sapient puppet minions attacked Andras, trying to kidnap her for his own ends."

A pause. "Yeah...it is complicated. And now it turns out that Wolf and Vera, his girlfriend, who were hired by my older brother to protect me and Andras - at least I presume it's my older brother - have decided to stay in the job only because Andras is presumably still in it. So yeah."
