Note: This isn't Canon Kingdom Hearts, but rather an Alternate Version of the setting in which Disney Worlds are replaced by Parallel Earths based on counterfactual histories. See below to see what the equivalent of Disney Castle is.

Kingdom Hearts: Alternate Lights

Long ago, there was One World, One Earth, and One Timeline, a world filled with Darkness and Light in unequal measures, with a greater proportion of Darkness to Light. This world, though many, was doomed to fall until one Hero delved into the secrets of the Light. He discovered that said Light flowed from an unseen land by the name of Kingdom Hearts, and that if he could just burst the barrier that separated this world from this source of Light, he can save the timeline.

And so, he did...but with unforeseen consequences. For what was once one world was separated to many, each with varying levels of Light and Dark. Now, any possibility for Earth to change, even the 'absurd' and 'impossible' ones, now sprang off into its own timeline, creating, for the first time, a Multiverse. The weapon the Hero used to create the Multiverse is called the X-Blade (Pronounced Key-Blade), and, seeing the consequences of his actions, the Hero shattered it into several pieces.

However, it was too late; the people of the various timelines saw, nay, knew, what had been done to them, and so created Lesser Keyblades in the shape of the X-Blade, so as to attempt to search for, and dominate, Kingdom Hearts. But, because of their hubris and ambition, they all failed, killing each other off except for a few repentant surviors, who swore off any attempt to dominate the Multiverse, and instead, chose to preserve it.

In time, the people of the Multiverse forgot about The Hero, the X-Blade, and the survivors of the Keyblade Wars, and slipped into complacency, thinking that their worlds were the only true ones. And so, centuries of peace and development passed. Then, one day, on the world of Shining Field, a Scholar in the House of Wisdom discovered the secrets of the Past, of the Light...and Darkness.

Only a few years after that, Shining Field burned, destroyed by an onslaught of Heartless, strange, black monsters with yellow eyes, who were resistant to most mortal weapons, and who, after destruction, merely reformed in another part of the world to continue their rampage. The Heartless consumed the majority of the inhabitants, man, woman, and child, before turning upon the Heart of the World, its Core of Light.

After that, more worlds burned in quick succession, as Heartless began emerging everywhere, like an unchecked plague. Not merely that, but there were hints that the Heartless were...guided, controlled by an unseen intelligence. And as if to add to the chaos and strife of the situation, strange beings called the Nobodies also emerged, sometimes fighting the Heartless, sometimes conquering their own stretches of territory.

And the Keyblade Order...was nowhere to be seen.

But there is hope: Creatures called Moogles have appeared throughout the worlds, offering trade links, technology, and magic that would give the worlds a fighting chance against the Heartless, and finally, ships that can connect to other worlds. In addition to this, people from all over the world with strong hearts have begun manifesting Keyblades of their own, weapons that are super-effective at killing Heartless, preventing them from reconstituting elsewhere. Now, the worlds prepare to strike back and find out who is behind this strange onslaught on the Multiverse...

Strange creatures called Heartless are taking over the worlds, the Moogles have come to save us through the power of trade, and people are spontaneously manifesting the Keyblade, a weapon that kills Heartless in droves. Also, there's Magic. And Technolgy. Sometimes a combination of both. Oh, and instead of Disney-based worlds, you get to travel to alternate timelines.

1.) No Godmoding or Powergaming, aka no controlling other players' actions, no defeating your enemy in one shot, and no shrugging of all hits without a magical shield.

Summary of History: The Second Palailogoi Civil War, which in IRL, destroyed the Byzantine Empire as a Great Power, went the other way, with Serbia not interfering and the victory going to the Regency faction, who successfully reformed the state to lessen the aristocracy's power, redistribute land back to the peasants, increase the numbers of the navy, and take the Empire in a maritime, commercial, direction, trading with other nations instead of depending on landed estates. In time, this reformed Empire retook Anatolia using divide-and-conquer tactics, judicious alliances, and finally, luck.

It then used its position as a manufacturer of luxury goods, like Silk, to withstand the shock of the discovery of the Americas upon its economy, building the Empire 'tall' instead of 'wide', focusing upon economic and cultural pursuits instead of military conquests, as well as education. Despite this, they withstood more civil wars, foreign invasions, and coups, forcing them to keep developing their military.

Note, this is conjecture as the Timeline hasn't been finished yet: In modern times, the Byzantines can be credited with the invention of the Tank, the Stealth Fighter, and Rocket Artillery. Ever since the Enlightenment, they have also been a religiously tolerant state where Christians and Muslims live happily...as long as they speak Greek.

Ongoing World War II - The year is 1950...and the war is still occurring, due to the fact that the Nazis, using dark sorcery, have learned how to control the Heartless and unleash them upon the Allies, who are only saved from the verge of defeat by forming an alliance with Independent Keyblade Wielders and Nobodies. Not merely that, but Stalin has his own, dark plans to take control of the Heartless from Hitler. But, they will all find out that Darkness is not a toy...

2.) Puella Magi Madoka Magica - For the history of mankind, a race known as the 'Incubators' have uplifted young women from all walks of life, giving them great power as Magical Girls, and then feeding on said Magical Girls' descent into 'Witches', eldritch abominations that inflict suffering even as they are weighed down by the pain and despair of their lives. And, of course, the Heartless and Nobodies are added to the mix!

3.) Shimabara Triumphant - It is the Year 1669, 30 years after the Shimabara Rebellion held out long enough to force the Tokugawa Shogunate into a negotiated settlement that included lower taxes and freedom to worship. Japan had to revoke its policy of isolation from the world as a result, a development disliked by the ruling classes. Now, under a new Shogun, Tokugawa Ietsuna, an excuse has been found to revoke the Shimabara Peninsula's autonomy and invade the land once more with Dutch help, endangering the new Princess of Heart - Shiro Amakusa's daugther, who was never born in the Original Timeline!

4.) Fallout: Apocalypse Averted - The world of Fallout...only the Bombs didn't fall as the Big Bad took over and promised the leaders of the US and China that if they submitted to him, he would replenish all of Fallout Earth's natural resources and give them unimaginable power - which he did. Now, the US and China provide immense numbers of troops armed with Power Armor, Lasers, Plasma Guns, and Gauss Rifles and all that Atompunk stuff to supplement the Heartless!

5.) Cleopatra's Ambition - Cleopatra and Marc Antony have won the Battle of Actium, but at such a staggering cost that they were unable to follow up their victory with an attack on Italy itself. Now, ten years later, Antony has died of sickness, leaving Cleopatra defenseless against a renewed assault from Octavian, who is now supported by the Big Bad with several Legions of Heartless. But now, Cleopatra's 21-year old daughter, Cleopatra Selene, has exhibited powers of her own that her as a Princess of Heart, one in need of rescuing.

6.) A Queen of Hearts, not a Princess - The Battle of Bosworth ends with the death of both Henry Tudor and Richard III, leaving Elizabeth of York as the best claimant to the English throne. But as it would be decades before the country's people can even accept the idea that women can rule on their own right, most of England's nobles are now trying to marry one of their sons to the Yorkist Princess and hoping to gain control of the Kingdom that way. Elizabeth of York is also vital to the salvation of the Multiverse as she is a Princess of Heart, and thus the PCs are tasked to save her from the Heartless and a loveless marriage.

7.) The Ruins of Old Earth - In 2019, Ascot Carver, the one who discovered Magic and the X-blade, sought to use the mystic weapon to avert a nuclear war. He got his wish, but after all nuclear weapons were destroyed and a spell was cast to prevent people from using nuclear energy for anything violent, the nations of the world simply turned against each other in a conventional war that broke the world order and the economies of all Great Powers. Now, Earth is wrecked by conflict, pollution, and climate change, and while modern technology still exists, society has been pushed back to feudal levels of organization. But there is hope, hope in the Last Princess of Heart and the compassion of other worlds.

Motivation for the Holy Grail: To reincarnate into this world, to seek power, lore, and knowledge, and become the just and fair ruler for all religions.

Personality: An open-minded and tolerant ruler, but one prone to making mistaken laws. A scholar who sits on the ivory tower, yet also a fighter and knight who fought against the infidel whom he would one day rule over. A man of contrasts who lifted up the culture of his nation, even though he drove it into financial ruin and civil war, that is Alfonso X's record in history, rescued in the end by the scholars he was a patron of, the Jews and Muslims who benefited from his lenience, and the works of good quality he himself has produced.

After seeing how he barely avoided being seen as a bad ruler, Alfonso X vowed that once he reincarnates (or if), he will study economics and make sure he does not drive Spain into financial ruin again. Not just that, but if his Master has a selfish wish, or even a wish which would cause many lives to suffer, he would strive to undermine their will as secretly and as openly as he could. In contrast, however, if he were ever to encounter a Master with a relatively unselfish wish, one which benefits the innocent hardworkng masses, he would support him or her through thick and thin.

Description: As mentioned, Alfonso X ordered the Kabbalah translated into Castilian, allowing Christians to interpret it through their theology. In the Cabala/Christian Kabbalah, Keter and Hokmah are the Spirit and Father, while Binah, the Divine Mother, becomes the Blessed Virgin. By calling on this esoteric (and heretical) interpretation of holy writ, Alfonso can summon a golden, glowing book that grants the power to cast ritual Magecraft which is above what most Magi can do today.

And by that, the text of said book contains spells of healing and removal of curses, as well as the exorcism, purification and sealing of demons and wraiths and things of great evil. It also allows for the casting of Reinforcement spells more powerful than what Modern Magi can do, as well as improve one's skills in Numerology and Golemancy.

However, its most powerful function is the ability to call on the divine light of Ein Soph, the infinite, un-manifested essence of God, to smite a single opponent with the pillar of energy that can bypass all defenses of the same rank and below to inflict damage proportionate to their arrogance and pride. In short, the more hubris the target has, the more one is blasted by the light until they are reduced to dust, while those with great humility are not harmed at all.

Motivation for the Holy Grail: Daniel's wish is for the survival of Humanity (and thus the Magi who live alongside Humanity). This is not the same as world peace, which is impossible, or even world happiness (same). Rather, Daniel wants pollution like un-recyclable rubbish, untreated sewage, toxic waste, and nuclear waste to disappear into another dimension, same for Co2 and other greenhouse gases that are causing climate change. This has both a selfish and a selfless reason: As long as most Magi live alongside Humanity, the comfort and prosperity of the latter mean a secure platform for seeking the Root...

Personality: Idealistic to the point of naivete, determined to the point of arrogance, and yet willing to admit ignorance of his circumstances, Daniel is someone who regrets past gullibility and seeks to learn from it even though his idealism and arrogance prevent him from learning as quickly as he should.

This regret makes him want to atone for his past actions against the Clock Tower, no matter how ultimately minor, by serving them loyally but not as blindly as he had served his grandfather, who had caused the troubles of the family in the first place. But despite seeking The Root like the rest of the Clock Tower's Magi, Daniel has a larger-than-normal love for Humanity as a concept and a desire to give it one last gift before he or his descendants reached The Root. This gift would either be a Wish on the Holy Grail which benefits billions of people or his own efforts to get rid of threats to Humanity if they rear their ugly heads.

As an aside, he loves modern culture and technology, recognizing that the death of Mystery, though regrettable, also means that Humanity would not need Magecraft and Magic to solve their problems. Plus modern tech is just so convenient...

Biography: A long time ago, there was the Palaiologos Family, overlords of Modern Athens, Salonika, and Sparta's magical communities. They were Independent Magi who resented any form of oversight, including the Magus Association's, and though powerful for a while, their arrogance and lack of alliances with the wider network of Magi led their vassal families to slowly peel off and join the Clock Tower and even Atlas Academy, slowly chipping away at their strength. The lowest point was when the seventh child of the family, Deuel Palaiologos, left their ranks and married Maria Adamos, an ordinary woman and a scientist to boot, and chose to live a humble life as a restaurant owner, free from the burdens of Magus politics and seeking The Root.

Daniel was born from that marriage, and for a while, he was left alone to be raised in love by his parents, going to school, making friends, and reading books of all kinds, which he understood and absorbed from a young age. A genius, smart enough that it counted as a curse, especially when coupled with a natural talent for Magecraft, which his father reluctantly taught him. This, however, was noticed by his grandfather's spies, who were still watching Deuel and his family. And it became worse when all of a sudden, all of Deuel's siblings, Daniel's uncles and aunts, died in mysterious circumstances, and so did their children, Daniel's cousins.

This left Deuel, Maria, and Daniel as the only way for House Palaiologos to continue, and Anastasios Palaiologos, Daniel's grandfather and the Head of House, came directly for Daniel with a large detail of bodyguards - Deuel and Maria were damaged goods and so he wanted Daniel as his heir. Because of the threat of force, there was no choice but to let Daniel be taken away 'for training'. Daniel was ten then.

The training was hard and unforgiving, and to keep Daniel motivated, Anastasios began fudging the truth, saying that the Palaiologos Family was surrounded on all sides by enemies such as the Clock Tower and the rest of the Magus' Association and that Daniel was being trained to be a hero who will eventually bring them down. Being an impressionable kid, Daniel believed his grandfather and willingly threw himself harder into his studies, which included diplomacy, etiquette, and the use of firearms and swords.

Four years later, Anastasios gave Daniel the family Magic Crest, and to all appearances, died of natural causes. Daniel was now Family Head at fifteen, inheritor of a large fortune in the mundane world but with declining respect and deference from other Magi and Spellcasters alike. And after meeting once again with his parents and childhood friends, Daniel began dutifully working to fulfill his Grandfather's will, which was to gather the misfits and outcasts of Magus society together into a 'Resistance' to fight the Clock Tower.

The first sign things were wrong was when Daniel saw that these misfits and outcasts were no saints, and a few were actually scumbags who deserved to be cast out, being the child-sacrificing louts who worshipped cosmic horrors and embodiments of metaphysical tyranny which he thought the Clock Tower was. The second sign was that when Daniel became too vocal with this sentiment, one of these 'oppressed misfits' instead reported him to the Clock Tower, who promptly sent people to arrest Daniel and nip his conspiracy in the bud. Despite being a 'prodigy' with more experience than a kid should have, he was still a teenager and was thus easily lured out and captured.

For a brief moment, Daniel considered blowing himself up rather than being subjected to the enemy's alleged cruel tortures, which included removal of one's magic circuits entirely. Then he was knocked flat by a punch to the stomach before he can do so, and woke up in a surprisingly comfortable cell. After that, he found out that not only had his Grandfather fed him lies, but that said Grandfather was still alive - He had created a unique form of Magecraft, based on Life and Necromancy Magics, which allowed him to add other people's lifespans to his own, tricking death itself into thinking he was supposed to still be alive. This magic was best-cast in a Bounded Field, and the real reason Daniel's uncles, aunts, and cousins died was because Anastasios had tricked them into a place with such a Field and transferred their lifespans to himself.

And yes, there was a recording of Anastasios gloating about his plans, as well as other pieces of supporting evidence showing that his endgame was to use Daniel to found an organization to fight the Clock Tower and the rest of the Mages' Association, manipulating said organization to acquire power and knowledge for himself.

After taking a while to absorb the information, Daniel allowed the Clock Tower to exact a fine from him of his Family's most powerful Mystic Codes, as well as give him an official reprimand. Out of gratitude, he joined the Clock Tower when given the opportunity to do so, especially as it'd give him revenge on his grandfather.

Fourteen years passed, and Daniel found out that he was actually happy as long as he ignored the Clock Tower's amorality and focused on the net benefits to Humanity at large. Not for him was the world of politicking and backstabbing - His Grandfather had unwittingly taught him that involvement increases the risks of someone as naive as he becoming a pawn. He just wanted to do what good he can before he and his descendants - Once he married, there was no hurry - Reached The Root.

Then he heard rumors of a Holy Grail War about to start somewhere else other than Fuyuki City and began investigating said rumors, only to wake up with a set of Command Seals. It seemed as though Fate had decided to get in the way of his happiness, hadn't it?

Magecraft: Heroic Iconography Magecraft - The Palaiologos Family's signature Magecraft, dating from Greece and Rome and adapted to the Christian and Secular Eras, Heroic Iconography Magecraft uses Jewelry shaped into a form resonant in the collective subconscious (stars, planets, swords and rings) as a catalyst for a Ritual of Transformation (nowadays as simple as lifting up one's badge into the air and letting it catch the light of the sun, moon, and stars), combined with self-hypnosis to push one's physical and mental capabilities to the limit...

Magic Crest: 600 years.

Equipment:

Jewel Star Badge and Uniform - A badge of electrum (a naturally-occuring alloy of gold and silver) and diamond which when held aloft, transforms Daniel's current clothing into a miniature version of this uniform, which acts as lightweight armor with decent resistance to physical and magical force (think the Chaldea Uniform from FGO).

Electrum and Emerald Ring - A ring of electrum with an emerald set in its front, this ring carries basic Reinforcement spells that allow for Olympic-level feats and basic regeneration (also based on the Chaldea Uniform from FGO).

Orbis - A crystal orb that contains several smaller jewels that represent a Heliocentric Solar System instead of the usual Geocentric cosmology followed by most Magi. This allows Daniel to see what is happening in distant places, 'stretching' his sight in an area as large as Budapest, and with an additional infusion of mana, Orbis can glow whenever it focuses on a region where a potent source of Mana is located, much like a Mana Compass. Needless to say, it does glow red when detecting a danger too much for Daniel to handle...

Telos - A modified Azoth dagger that can extend into a crystalline longsword that conducts Daniel's Elemental spells.

Flashback, Before Arrival on Plenty

The Xuanzang's observation deck was empty most of the time, and so Ashton and Flame were able to just go there and look at the stars peacefully. They had spent a few minutes just enjoying the beauty before Flame broke the silence.

"Ashton," he looked at the other boy, before saying in a serious tone, "We managed to pull the wool over Mr. Kherol's eyes today, but we both know that won't last forever. So tell me, why aren't you more worried?"

Ashton looked at his boyfriend and said, "I am. I am very worried." He paused before continuing, "Mr. Kherol... He's smart and he treats us like his own folk and I believe he's a decent person in general. But there's a saying in the Galactic Web - fear the anger of a gentle man. I don't know the original source, and Kherol isn't always gentle, far from it, but it rings true."

A pause as his gaze steeled, "And that's why I want to be more like him."

Flashback, The War, Several Months Before Proxima

Ashton and Flame had just returned to Kherol's current flagship after a planetside combat mission in the Rau've-held world of L'eve, an Earth-like planet desired by the Ascendancy's high command as 'living space'. As they walked to their assigned quarters after their regular decontamination and checkup, they expected nothing at all except a good night's rest after their excursion, followed by another combat mission within three or so days.

This was why it was a surprise when they came across Grand Admiral Kherol and Lt. Carina. It was even more of a surprise when, after the two boys had saluted them, Kherol had said, "At ease, Marines. Also, happy birthday - You two are turning fifteen today, right?"

It was then that the two discovered that 1.) they had the same birthday and that 2.) the Grand Admiral cared enough to greet them on it. But there were more surprises in store, bits of actual respect that Kherol took for granted, but which the two Star Marines, even Flame, greedily lapped up. For Kherol's next words were:

"I heard you two risked your lives to save seven hundred of my men and women from the enemy partisans just hours before. While I cannot remove the Star Marines from combat duty entirely, I can give you the rest of the day off - No training, free run of non-classified parts of the ship, and extra ration cards. Go enjoy yourselves."

As the Grand Admiral left after having said those last words so casually, Lt. Carina looked back and said to them, "Happy birthday from me, too."

Then she left as well.

Flashback, Before Arrival on Plenty

Small kindnesses. Proper gratitude. And of course, sheer tactical and strategic acumen, that was what Kherol showed to them. This was why Flame was able to say to the person he loved, "I understand why you want to be like that, even if I personally don't believe it's possible. But tell me, if it meant fighting against him, why did you choose to seek out Moonstrike and fight the Ascendancy? I know you're not so naive as to say that Kherol will just 'turn good' and help us overthrow the President-for-Life and his ilk. So what is it?"

Ashton's answer surprised him. "Because I want to prove myself to him. Because I want him to acknowledge me. Because I admire him yet at the same time envy him. And, I know you think this is a fool's errand, but I want to defeat him, even in some small way." He then smiled, "I wasn't being entirely honest when I said that I wanted closure, or rather, you guys assumed that I wanted 'justice', preferably a bloody end to the Ascendancy. But the truth is always that for me, closure means confirming that the Ascendancy was abusing us on purpose, and I don't mean the experiments or them forcing us to fight."

Flame looked back at Ashton, eyes glinting with reflected light, "So you've noticed it too. Their humiliations and experiments and torture, it's done with deliberate inefficiency. If they really wanted us to be efficient soldiers..."

"They'd have treated us better," Ashton said. "Flame, I talked with the Rau've about the effects of Kaisoken dust on other species, nowhere does it say that it works only on children and teenagers. Humans might be different, but tell me, have you ever seen our tormentors do more than imply that Kaisoken dust doesn't work on adults?"

The redhead said, "I haven't, and I'd bet no one else has. Ashton, we need to tell everyone else this -"

"I don't have solid proof," Ashton interrupted. "And the very thought will just make everyone else angrier." He sighed, "Right now, we need to wait, maybe we'll find proof while fighting for Moonstrike..."

Motivation for the Holy Grail: To reincarnate into this world, to seek power, lore, and knowledge, and become the just and fair ruler for all religions.

Personality: An enlightened monarch beyond his time, the first modern European ruler, and one who regained the Holy City of Jerusalem for Christendom through diplomacy alone. Patron of the arts and sciences, Muslims and Jews, and also a lawgiver, poet, and scholar. But his unorthodoxy and skepticism, together with his hunger for power, earned him the ire of the Church of his day, and his threats to the liberty of the Italian cities led to his final defeats. A believer that he is the Viceregent of God on Earth, Frederick is possessed of confidence bordering on arrogance rivaled only by his love of knowledge and beauty in all things.

In the modern era, he is endlessly curious about the advancements made after his death, and would gladly spend his time cooped up in a library even if he does reincarnate, which does sap his willingness to slake his burning thirst for power and status. Description: The most notable feat that anyone would know of Frederick II was how he talked the current Sultan of Egypt, Al-Kamil, into giving up control of Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Nazareth to the Christians without bloodshed as long as the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque were kept under Muslim rule. Though in real life, there were numerous political reasons for the Sultan to agree to that treaty, and the results lasted only for ten years, the fact was that it was an impressive feat of diplomacy nonetheless, a feat amplified by popular imagination and exaggeration.

As a Noble Phantasm, the Treaty can be invoked to give Frederick II's spoken words an astonishing power of bewitchment, enabling him to tell a Master or a weaker-willed Servant to give him one thing he wants. This only works once, however, and cannot be abused to trick people into lasting enslavement. However, it can bewitch a Master into giving up their command seals and dropping from the fight entirely, if it is used right. Note that if the Master is deaf or wearing earplugs or otherwise cannot hear Frederick II, this NP does not work.

Motivation for the Holy Grail: Daniel's wish is to replenish all of Humanity's resources except for Fossil Fuels, as well as mass regrowth of forests and coral reefs, along with the removal of excess Co2 and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. This is not because Daniel is an eco-geek or a fanatic about the environment, but rather to prevent Humanity from destroying itself through resource conflicts and climate change and taking Magus-kind down along with it, ending all Magi's search for The Root permanently.

Personality: Idealistic to the point of naivete, determined to the point of arrogance, and only now reluctantly admitting ignorance of his circumstances, Daniel is someone who regrets past gullibility and seeks to learn from it even though his idealism and arrogance prevent him from learning as quickly as he should. This regret makes him want to atone for his actions against the Clock Tower, no matter how ultimately minor, by serving them loyally but not as blindly as he had served his grandfather, who had caused the troubles of the family in the first place. But despite seeking The Root like the rest of the Clock Tower's Magi, Daniel has a larger-than-normal love for Humanity as a concept and a desire to give it one last gift before he or his descendants reached The Root. This gift would either be a Wish on the Holy Grail which benefits billions of people or his own efforts to get rid of threats to Humanity if they rear their ugly heads...

Biography: A long time ago, there was the Palaiologos Family, overlords of Modern Athens, Salonika, and Sparta's magical communities. They were Independent Magi who resented any form of oversight, including the Magus Association's, and though powerful for a while, their arrogance and lack of alliances with the wider network of Magi led their vassal families to slowly peel off and join the Clock Tower and even Atlas Academy, slowly chipping away at their strength. The lowest point was when the seventh child of the family, Deuel Palaiologos, left their ranks and married Maria Adamos, an ordinary woman and a scientist to boot, and chose to live a humble life as a restaurant owner, free from the burdens of Magus politics and seeking The Root.

Daniel was born from that marriage, and for a while, he was left alone to be raised in love by his parents, going to school, making friends, and reading books of all kinds, which he understood and absorbed from a young age. A genius, smart enough that it counted as a curse, especially when coupled with a natural talent for Magecraft, which his father reluctantly taught him. This, however, was noticed by his grandfather's spies, who were still watching Deuel and his family. And it became worse when all of a sudden, all of Deuel's siblings, Daniel's uncles and aunts, died in mysterious circumstances, and so did their children, Daniel's cousins.

This left Deuel, Maria, and Daniel as the only way for House Palaiologos to continue, and Anastasios Palaiologos, Daniel's grandfather and the Head of House, came directly for Daniel with a large detail of bodyguards - Deuel and Maria were damaged goods and so he wanted Daniel as his heir. Because of the threat of force, there was no choice but to let Daniel be taken away 'for training'. Daniel was ten then.

The training was hard and unforgiving, and to keep Daniel motivated, Anastasios began fudging the truth, saying that the Palaiologos Family was surrounded on all sides by enemies such as the Clock Tower and the rest of the Magus' Association and that Daniel was being trained to be a hero who will eventually bring them down. Being an impressionable kid, Daniel believed his grandfather and willingly threw himself harder into his studies, which included diplomacy, etiquette, and the use of firearms and swords.

Four years later, Anastasios gave Daniel the family Magic Crest, and to all appearances, died of natural causes. Daniel was now Family Head at fifteen, inheritor of a large fortune in the mundane world but with declining respect and deference from other Magi and Spellcasters alike. And after meeting once again with his parents and childhood friends, Daniel began dutifully working to fulfill his Grandfather's will, which was to gather the misfits and outcasts of Magus society together into a 'Resistance' to fight the Clock Tower.

The first sign things were wrong was when Daniel saw that these misfits and outcasts were no saints, and a few were actually scumbags who deserved to be cast out, being the child-sacrificing louts who worshipped cosmic horrors and embodiments of metaphysical tyranny which he thought the Clock Tower was. The second sign was that when Daniel became too vocal with this sentiment, one of these 'oppressed misfits' instead reported him to the Clock Tower, who promptly sent people to arrest Daniel and nip his conspiracy in the bud. Despite being a 'prodigy' with more experience than a kid should have, he was still a teenager and was thus easily lured out and captured.

For a brief moment, Daniel considered blowing himself up rather than being subjected to the enemy's alleged cruel tortures, which included removal of one's magic circuits entirely. Then he was knocked flat by a punch to the stomach before he can do so, and woke up in a surprisingly comfortable cell. After that, he found out that not only had his Grandfather fed him lies, but that said Grandfather was still alive - He had created a unique form of Magecraft, based on Life and Necromancy Magics, which allowed him to add other people's lifespans to his own, tricking death itself into thinking he was supposed to still be alive. This magic was best-cast in a Bounded Field, and the real reason Daniel's uncles, aunts, and cousins died was because Anastasios had tricked them into a place with such a Field and transferred their lifespans to himself.

And yes, there was a recording of Anastasios gloating about his plans, as well as other pieces of supporting evidence showing that his endgame was to use Daniel to found an organization to fight the Clock Tower and the rest of the Mages' Association, manipulating said organization to acquire power and knowledge for himself.

After taking a while to absorb the information, Daniel allowed the Clock Tower to exact a fine from him of his Family's most powerful Mystic Codes, as well as give him an official reprimand. He would eventually join the Clock Tower itself, for, despite its amorality, it was a net benefit for Humanity. And it was in a mission for its interests that he ended up in [Insert City Here]...

Magecraft: Magecraft: Heroic Iconography Magecraft - The Palaiologos Family's signature Magecraft, dating from Greece and Rome and adapted to the Christian and Secular Eras, Heroic Iconography Magecraft uses Jewelry shaped into a form resonant in the collective subconscious (stars, planets, swords and rings) as a catalyst for a Ritual of Transformation (nowadays as simple as lifting up one's badge into the air and letting it catch the light of the sun, moon, and stars), combined with self-hypnosis to push one's physical and mental capabilities to the limit...

Magic Crest: 600 years.

Equipment: Jewel Star Badge and Uniform - A badge of electrum (a naturally-occurring alloy of gold and silver) and diamond which when held aloft, transforms Daniel's current clothing into a miniature version of this uniform, which acts as lightweight armor with decent resistance to physical and magical force (think the Chaldea Uniform from FGO).

Electrum and Emerald Ring - A ring of electrum with an emerald set in its front, this ring carries basic Reinforcement and Healing Spells which allow for Olympic-level feats and basic regeneration (also based on the Chaldea Uniform from FGO).

Orbis - A crystal orb which contains several smaller jewels which represent a Heliocentric Solar System instead of the usual Geocentric cosmology followed by most Magi. This allows Daniel to see brief glimpses into the past, present, and future, as well as act as a Mana Compass which glows bright red when he meets with a danger too powerful to handle.

Telos - A modified Azoth dagger which can extend into a crystalline longsword which conducts Daniel's Elemental spells.
