Bio
Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.
Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.
That's the thing, he wouldn't recognize or know what he did was that specifically. And being a character of Star Road, maybe it's a bit more feasible with the magic in some way?
Of course, I can always just have Geno "kill" him, have him hold on to his spirit core, eventually find his way to the Master of Masters and be told how to revive his friend from him. If you prefer the latter over the former, that's also completely fine.
I don't know what Star Road necessarily has to do with it. If that's relevant, please do explain. It is not at all feasible to create a Friend Heart accidentally.
You can indeed just have Geno "kill" him (or try to, anyway), though there's no known way to 'revive' a spirit that's lost its body as anything more than a Striker. Maybe it's in character for Geno, as a character centered around the idea of a higher authority, but so far I've seen a repeated theme: there being no other choice. If Geno doesn't somehow know how to save Mario, he can do other things besides just kill him. There are always other choices.
@Lugubrious I assume -according to the info - that Geno can create a friend heart to free Mario from his corrupted state?
Like, Geno's rushing towards Mario - ready to kill - but then rejects and unintentionally reveals a friend heart that ultimately revives the plumber upon colliding with him? This is viable right?
How would he know how to? Making a Friend Heart requires a specific action, and to do that accidentally would be one heck of a coincidence.
Tora's surprise quickly turned to pain when Bastion's relentless barrage of bullets tore through his cover and into him. A number hit his shield, but many hit him directly, eliciting a agonized yelp as he was rolled away. Once the bullets pushed him far enough away that they lost their force and he came to a stop, he slumped over with a groan. Even with his great defense and ridiculous constitution, the omnic's chaingun inflicted brutal damage. The Nopon -left alone by Linkle's gambit and Minako's terror- might have given up the ghost then and there if he didn't grit his teeth, force a smile, and kept himself alive through force of will. Still, at the minimum level of vitality he could bear, Tora wouldn't be getting up anytime soon.
While this happened, Linkle and her new rabbid friend moved in from the side to assault the sentry nest. She took advantage of the diversion provided by the faltering rabbid squad and Tora to get into close range and assault the turrets with bombs, invariably targeting both because of their proximity. They detonated right on target, blasting the machines with force and fire. For a moment they reeled, their targeting off-kilter, but the goggle-wearing man nearby stepped out of the way of the incoming bombs before retaliating. He leveled a shotgun at Linkle, who hadn't prepared herself for a counterattack, and pulled the trigger to pepper her with buckshot. The rabbid, realizing things were quickly taking a turn for the worse, let out a pair of shots from his bworb. One hit either turret, inflicting a purple, bubbly effect to the tune of chilling rabbid laughter, but the machines had already recovered. The smaller one auto-targeted Linkle, and the other rotated manually to unleash its terrifying force upon both attackers; with a scream the green-capped rabbid threw himself into the moat to escape the turrets' wrath, and if Linkle too didn't make herself scarce in the moment left to her, she'd be taking an even more cruel bombardment than the one that felled Tora.
Regardless of where she was at the end of those few seconds, there ended up being no targets for the turrets to mow down. Without a moment's delay Bastion began to heal himself, using a tiny repair arm to undo the damage caused by Linkle's bombs, and the Engineer unceremoniously whacked his turret with a wrench to bring it back to peak condition. However, the vampiric status effect inflicted by the rabbid remained.
It was this situation, with one ally down, another paralyzed, and the last wounded, that Bowser and the others arrived to. A few block-stacks and junk piles existed for the giant turtle to hide behind, lest he be shot at too. For the moment, with no visible targets, the turrets stood idle; however, the yellow bird from earlier circled overhead, and after a few seconds flew down to perch atop Minako's cover. Bastion followed its movements, and understood the significance of where it landed. Once again, his chaingun's barrel began to spin up.
The Master of Masters
Location: Scrapyard – Start
You have Acquired: Slice Cutter A handheld laser tool able to make precision heat cuts. It has a small heat-up time and requires constant contact to do so, making it situational at best in combat but useful in other situations
and Necro Smasher A wooden mallet owned by the Engineer, possibly used to build coffins. Not a great weapon, but can repair machines that it hits
and Pretty Boy's Pocket Pistol While it has a smaller clip size than the average pistol, it somehow restored a very small amount of health on every shot, and it shoots decently fast
New Striker Gained: Rabbid Supporter A Rabbid trooper characterized by his distinctive pack. It can emit a healing pulse at the press of a button, restoring allies in range once every so often. It also contains a number of small grenades, which have small blasts and deal low damage but can bounce around corners and behind cover. The Supporter himself prefers not to fight, and especially not from the front lines; he is a mischievous coward, but dedicated to his team's well-being
The arrival of backup from the right side made short work of the hindered robots. In a matter of seconds, the returning allies' efforts rendered the Slicers into spare parts. A moment of peace settled upon the part of the battlefield, possible given the depletion of both enemy forces. Their remainder, bruised and exhausted, littered the Scrapyard's center, but would provide little in the way of resistance to anyone pushing through it. Bowser and Blazermate stood ready to advance, with the former actually taking off following a brief exchange with his new Strikers, but not all was well. A vehement argument broke out between the Courier and Michael, concerning the sniper's influence in the skirmish off to the right. However, it did not take long for 6 to get distracted, and when the bemused Master of Masters followed his gaze he saw nothing.
With the group gearing up to move out again and take on the Scrapyard's principal challenge, the Master wanted to check in with Din and Agoston again, whose reticence worried him. Instead, he found himself met with the Courier and then Roadhog, both seeking answers. Something told the Master that everyone needed to get a move on, or something bad would happen. It would be difficult to make progress with these two in the way, however, and while one could be deflected, the other seemed less reasonable. “Y'know, it's a good question. But it's a long story, are ya sure ya wanna sit here and chat now, when some of our buddies might be getting ventilated? As for you, though, it's simple,” he turned to Roadhog to say. “I used my li'l ol' keyblade to break the light that bound your heart. And even if I'm not really the big-time, gung-ho hero type, you weren't yourself, I can't very well walk away from someone who I can restore.” He saw that Blazermate had finished healing the Centurion and decided to support her movement. After pointing a finger at the shell of Bowser in the distance, he started to walk. “Now, let's get going! We can talk more after, 'kay?”
As he spoke, Kirby appeared near 6, having squirmed free of Bowser's hat earlier. Evidently, the little guy felt well enough to walk, though it was hard to imagine he'd be able to brawl anytime soon. He wore a smile on his face as he looked up to the man and waved his stubby arms, trying to get his attention. Once he had it, the puff did something odd. He held his nubs over his body, then lifted them both straight up. When he did so, a bright pink heart appeared, which he held overhead. With an “Ey!” he tossed it, and it popped on the ground. After it vanished, Kirby pointed at 6, then tapped his own body again. While analogs between the human form and Kirby's were tenuous at best, a little inference might suggest that he had been touching his own heart.
Revelation made: Starting at level 3, all characters can manifest Friend Hearts at the cost of 1 EXP to begin with, the cost increasing by 1 per additional level. A Friend Heart can restore someone affected by Galeem's influence, as long as the target is weakened
Meanwhile, the Master of Masters hurried through the center of the Scrapyard after Bowser along with Blazermate. “Forgive me for saying,” he piped up, voice a bit strained by his efforts. “But you're an interesting one. The spirits I've seen belonging to machines appear faded, maybe 'cause they're non-living beings without conventional hearts, but yours is strong and bright. How did you come to be?” With a minute or so at his disposal until he reached the miniboss, he felt comfortable with a brisk conversation, despite his insistence on not talking about himself earlier.
Location: Peach's Castle, Dungeon
The moment the last of Spyro's restraints shattered, he leaped off the table and for the door. His aspect was not one of rage, but of pain and desperation; while not blind, he appeared muddled, able to fixate solely on his abiding desire to get the hell out. As such, while he burst into the dungeon corridor at high speed, he did not swerve left to follow Geno.
In his clouded eyes, everything looked like another tormentor, and while a cornered beast would attack if forced to he would not seek an encounter. Instead Spyro took a right, spewing fire from his mouth as he sprinted across the mossy stone floor. His burning breath ignited other cell doors and whatever flammable objects he stumbled across, beginning to fill the dungeon with smoke. A smattering of coughs could be heard throughout the place, but Spyro paid them no heed. A whiff of fresh air greeted his nostrils, and followed it as fast as his legs could carry him.
He ran smack-dab into iron bars, the same sturdy gate that barred Geno's ascent earlier. Turning up the heat, Spyro wasted no time in melting through the lock, and with that out of the way the gate could simply be bulled open. On the young dragon's heels followed Donkey Kong, who hadn't ventured far from Mario's chamber and was now eager to be out of the smoke.
The ape's comrade, as it turned out, got farther in his pursuit of Geno, but now that meant more ground to cover before he could escape the acrid fumes stinging his lungs. Mario managed to make it back through the breach in his cell's back, then to limp through its actual door and catch sight of the staircase leading out, but no farther. His wounds, combined with the baleful smoke, stopped him short, and Mario fell to his knees in a fit of coughing. With a herculean effort, the plumber regained his feet just as Geno appeared on the scene. Mario span about to face his enemy, effectively blocking the exit. In this state, it seemed, he would rather finish the fight than save himself—or perhaps he thought himself doomed either way. “...Time-a to finish this.”
Personality: Henry is, to put it lightly, absolutely psychotic. But at least he’s a psychopath with a cheery personality. A dark mage with little to no morals is a volatile force indeed and usually meant to be avoided and the constant smile on his face makes it all the more creepy when combined with his love of violence.
Henry’s amorality is extremely prevalent to those who have been around him enough. He has done things such as extending a war by informing someone of an assassination plot so as not to “waste a perfectly fun war.” And is certainly not past him to throw away the life of innocents for victory in war. Though he has been seen protecting innocents under the orders of the tactician of his army, even at a tactical disadvantage. Even with his willingness to follow orders he has expressed his desire to rebel, and even kill, against his superiors if given a ‘stupid’ order such as not being allowed to kill.
Despite his tendency to violence and love of death, Henry is a surprisingly caring person when he finds people he actually cares about and will do anything to make them happy. He will even go as far as to curse people to death (which isn’t that far for him) for the sake of his loved ones.
Henry is quite the jokester, often making puns or macabre jokes. Laughing quite often in dangerous situations and ignoring the gravity of situations completely. This could be attributed to how slow he is to feel pain and how much he seems to ignore it despite disliking it. He also lacks a fear of death at all which can make him even more dangerous in a fight.
Henry also has a soft spot for animals and animals often love him in return. Being especially close to a wolf at one point and usually having a flock of crows surrounding him.
Despite his violent personality and a love of blood and gore, it is hard to call Henry inherently “evil.” It seems to be more a lack of morals and difficulty telling what’s right and wrong.
Background: In the continent of Ylisse, there were three countries. Regna Ferox, a country that values strength so much that they hold tournaments to decide who will rule. The Halidom of Ylisse, a peaceful nation ruled by a benevolent Exalt. And finally the theocracy of Plegia, an aggressive nation that largely worships the Fell Dragon Grima. Henry was a dark mage who belonged to Plegia. When he was a small child Henry’s parents wanted nothing to do with him and abandoned him at a magic school in the country. The school was an awful place full of pain for Henry, he even described a spiked room he would be stuck into if he acted up and how he almost died.
When he was still a child Henry grew particularly fond of a wolf whom he would play with. This happy relationship ended abruptly when the creature tried to visit him at the village he lived in and the villagers killed the poor wolf. Henry found the animal dead and surrounded by villagers causing Henry to snap and slaughter the entire village.
Over the years and after his schooling Henry became one of the most powerful dark mages in all of Plegia and earned himself quite the reputation. Though he had no loyalty to his country shortly before the current war between Plegia and Ylisse ended and he ended up secluding himself in a place called Carrion Isle. Two years after the war was finished it was there that he was recruited by the tactician Robin and Prince Chrom of the Halidom of Ylisse when an army of zombies called Risen attacked the group. After assisting the group Henry followed along and helped in their endeavors to fight a war threatening the entire continent.
Shortly after the Halidom had finished fighting against another continent known as Valm, the nation of Plegia attacked again. Their new leader, a sorcerer named Validar, was attempting to resurrect the Fell Dragon itself using the body of Robin as its vessel. With the dark dragon Grima brought back to life the army did what they had to do, and through the blessing of the goddess Naga and the bonds of friendship formed the powerful evil was vanquished. Or at least, that’s how the story would go if it were not for Galeem’s all consuming light.
Specialty: Damage-focused mage
Level: 1
Experience: 0/10
Powers: Ruin- A type of dark magic that is somewhat inaccurate but with a higher rate of dealing more damage than normal.
Strengths: Pain Tolerance- Due to his constant dealing with pain he has built up the ability to deal with it very well and slow to realize it in the first place. Without him really worrying about pain he is able to fight well even while injured. “Oh, NICE! I'm still bleeding in, like, twelve different places! Look at all that blood...” Health and Defense- For a magic user he has a surprising amount of health and physical defense (a 95% chance to get health on level up in game and 50% for defense with a naturally high amount in those stats from the beginning) though he can hardly be considered a tank.
Weaknesses: Magic Resistance- Despite his high physical defense he has very low resistance and is thus very weak to magical attacks. Lack of Pain- a downside to his ignoring of pain is that he is less likely to seek help if injured and continue fighting even if he shouldn’t. Child-like demeanor- Even with his violence his personality is almost innocent, for lack of a better word. This can make him easily manipulated if you play to his likes.
Spirits: "Not unless you count ghosts of people I killed, haha!"
Kindred Spirits: Grima (Fire Emblem: Awakening)- The Fell Dragon itself… sort of. This variation of Grima is the spirit of the dragon in its hosts body which is a version of Robin. While stuck in a mortal body Grima can only harness a fraction of its powers. Despite them never meeting personally Henry’s attachment to its host helps make this interesting duo possible
Knoll (Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones)- Another dark mage like Henry but from another world. He is kinder than Henry and possesses much knowledge on the dark arts that Henry practices.
Cheshire Cat (Alice Mare)- A demon of sorts, as he describes himself. An odd choice for sure, but this cats trickster personality and constant smile make these two one in the same.
And there is my lovably violent dark mage completed. For his powers I decided to start out with the tome he has when you get him in game and have him get more powerful ones later on since I wasn't sure if I should do that or just have his magical powers as one power. Just let me know if I need to change that or anything else! @Lugubrious
He looks fine to me. Go ahead and add him to the characters tab, and I'll do my best to bring him in. Like Hat Kid, however, it will have to be after the miniboss.
I have been waiting to respond so my post can be long enough. I am working on a post now.
Good to hear.
Meanwhile, I'm eagerly looking forward to what @Delta44 and @Gentlemanvaultboy turn up with for the miniboss encounter. Once the three of you have posted, I'll put up a new update for all.
Hey, sorry for taking so long. School's started up again and I haven't had as much free time as I used to. I'll try to get working on a post tomorrow.
Yeah also apologies on my end for the slowness, got a lot going on this week so things might not go super fast. I'll see if I can throw one out tonight, if not tomorrow c:
