"The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they become something more. See if they can work together when we needed them to. To fight the battles that we never could."

June 20th, 2016. We thought that we faced our deadliest foe that day. Walter Hanson, a disillusioned witch, rose Lucifer from Hell in order to bring about the end of days. Ordinary citizens and skilled hunters fought against the devil, with only a handful managing to live to tell the tale. The rest were buried in Owen's Field, if they were lucky enough to have their bodies found. The blood soaked into the ground, creating a permanent scar on the face of the Earth.

How foolish we were to think that it was all behind us.

As O.M.E.N. (the Organization for the Methodical Eradication of Necromantics) chased Hanson across the country, something ancient began to stir. Hel, the Norse Goddess of Death, was imprisoned by the Judeo-Christian deities ages ago. With the demon Mephistopheles seeking revenge against those who killed his master, Lucifer, Hel persuaded the demon to join forces with her. Their plan was simple: kill those who would oppose them and from the ashes of this world, build a better one.

Mephistopheles began to kill survivors of the Altsoba Massacre, those who had opposed Lucifer, such as Trevor Martin. He murdered the leaders of O.M.E.N. in such a fashion that would draw the most qualified hunters to Coventry, Massachusetts. It was a trap intended to slaughter them - and for the most part, it succeeded. Less than five of those who opposed Lucifer are still alive - that we know of.

Yet Hel triumphed as well. Mephistopheles imprisoned a kumakatok, preventing the kumaktok from doing what it must. These death spirits must always perform their function - there is no alternative. For a kumakatok to not manage their duties...it is a paradox, a cruel reversion of reality. It ripped holes into reality, scattering innocent victims across time and space, and released a Mullo. More importantly, it destroyed the cage that housed Hel, as her cage was made out of the fabric of reality.

Now free, Hel has already begun to slaughter the brave souls who stand against her. With the wolf Fenrir and the traitor Aloise Zamora by her side, all she needs is to acquire her cloak, banihylja. Her cloak will increase her powers exponentially, leaving humanity with the choice of kneeling to Hel or dying at her feet.

Will you stand against Hel? Or will you bow to the Goddess of Death? A team of remarkable individuals has been assembled in order to stop her. This odd company, including hunters, nephilim, fallen angels, and former Kings of Hell, is all that stands in Hel's way. The fate of the Earth rests in their hands. No, I am mistaken...

It rests in your hands.

Hello and welcome!

The Horrors of Coventry is a horror roleplay, inspired primarily by Supernatural. We have been going strong for almost a year (11 months!!!) and while we have a strong central group, we would love to welcome some new faces. As we enter Chapter 4, we are at a point where it is ideal to bring in new faces. Who would these characters be? It's simple. Anyone even remotely qualified to stop the Norse Goddess of Death. Is this a cheerleader turned zombie hunter? Sure! What about an agent of O.M.E.N., dedicating to stopping the world's supernatural threats? Love it! What about a vampire who wants to help humanity? Go for it!

I am a bit of a tough GM, but I'm fair. If you can post once a week and write at least two paragraphs, you'll do well. We've been running long term and don't show any sign of dying out. Got a roleplay fix you want to satiate, but you're tired of roleplays fizzling out? Believe me, I've been there. Give us a shot - and rise to the challenge Hel poses.

Q: Do I need to read all of those IC posts so far?
A: Nope! If anything from the previous three chapters is relevant, I'll provide you with a summary of what happened.

Q: I'm not a Supernatural fan....Can I still join?
Of course! While we are inspired by Supernatural and use a lot of their lore, I summarize all of the lore that we need in the OOC. If you're ever confused, just ask and I'll answer! Some of our current players haven't even watched the show before.

Q: What if I'm a bit intimidated by all of those posts?
Don't let the 300+ IC posts deter you (though I am super proud of them)! You will be able to slide right into the RP. At the point where we're at, we could technically start an entirely new RP topic and it'd be all the same. I'm also willing to help if you have any questions or worries, and I can guide you through character creation.

Q: I have an idea for a character, but I'm not sure if it's allowed...
Ask! You'll never know unless you do. On the off chance that it isn't accepted, I can work with you to tweak it so that way it fits in.

Q: I'm in the Wolves of Red Lake or X-Men: Darkness Rising...I heard there was something cool for me?
You heard right! If you are in a roleplay hosted by myself, @Nallore, or @BlueSky44, you can make a relative of one of your established characters! We've even had relatives of characters from different roleplays that we don't run! Isn't that one hell of a perk?

Q: Who shot first?
Han Solo.

@Nallore@Witch Cat@FantasyChic@BlueSky44
Coventry, Massachusetts: December 28th, 2016 - 8:43 P.M. Local Time

Coventry Circus Main Tent...

"Yes, a little help would be great!" Darren grunted. The wolf seemed to be getting ready to go for another charge and he didn't like his odds if he was stuck there. He was only able to half focus anyways, as he was worrying over Aloise. Her moral compass had always been strongly oriented, so it made little sense for her to join Hel. She had to have had a good reason behind - maybe she was going to attempt a double cross. Sacrifice her life, so that way everyone else could live - that was the Aloise Zamora he knew.

"...LOOK OUT!" Cecily screamed. She managed to dive to the right in time to avoid Fenrir's swipe, but Seraphina wasn't as fortunate. Fenrir had been going straight for Millicent, intending on grabbing the cloak for its mistress. The time traveling angel just happened to be exactly in his way. Fenrir knocked Seraphina to the side, with the angel slamming into a pole and sliding to the ground. To an ordinary human, it would have been fatal. Her host was certainly in horrible shape.

"Fuck...Hey, hey ugly!" Cecily shouted, certain that Seraphina was dead. To her knowledge, no one could have survived that. But since Seraphina was an angel, she was only wounded - not dead yet. Throwing out her hands, Cecily waved them about, trying to attract Fenrir's attention. She didn't have much luck, as the wolf growled at Millicent and bent down, ready to snatch away the cloak with his teeth.

It's not working...What to do...What to do... Cecily bit down on her lip, the ground around her rapidly shifting phase. As she glanced down, she lamented that she didn't have a lot of control over this power - though she understood where it came from. The contents of the letter she received - they must have been true. He really was her father. Otherwise...

Throwing her hands up once more, Cecily had a terribly wonderful idea. Letting out a screech, she focused on Fenrir as much as she could. At first, there was no effect. She was tempted to give up and try another approach, but something told her to keep pushing. She strained herself more and more, letting out a death scream, and it began to work. The wolf's head changed from a solid to a liquid. It wasn't his entire body - but it was enough.

The entire head was liquified, killing Fenrir. The body collapsed, falling to the ground and narrowly not crushing Millicent. Cecily fainted in turn, completely exhausted by that use of power.

They were safe - for now.

John Fairfax

Location: Coventry Circus Grounds ---> Heading to the Coventry Horrors
Interacting With: Folly, Lilith, Thalia, and Katsumi @BlueSky44@FantasyChic

A strange look came over Folly's face. While the circus traveled, they had been in Coventry for a while now. And it wasn't the first time they had come through this area. "I know the way," Folly said simply, before taking the initiative and walking off towards the hotel. Lilith and Thalia would likely understand her strange behavior. Whenever her father had been particularly violent and unhinged, she had run to the hotel. She had hidden there - she had hidden with Fairfax, decades away from her father's reach.

"We haven't had a proper chance to introduce ourselves," Fairfax mentioned, as he followed Folly's lead to the hotel. He didn't truthfully need it. While Coventry had changed in time, the hotel had the same location. Most of the streets and landmarks were the same. It was part of Coventry's historic charm. "My name is John Fairfax - but everyone seems to have taken to just calling me Fairfax. I'm an inventor and...huh, this is a funny tidbit I've never put in an introduction before, when I woke up last, it was 1929."

Folly didn't turn her head, yet she apparently agreed with the need for introductions. She knew everyone there but Katsumi. However, it was clear that her mood was still relatively dark. "I'm Folly Valeska - likely a psychopath in the making at this point. The deck's stacked against me." Her father was Boris Valeska a.k.a. Jack Fairfax, after all.

"I'm sure that's not true, Amiyra," Fairfax said, his tone filled with concern.

Folly didn't reply.

Rupert Cornish, MP

Location: O.M.E.N. Headquarters - Washington D.C.
Interacting With: O.M.E.N. Agents, MI13 Agents, the Press @Witch Cat@FantasyChic

"Huffington Post - What sort of abilities are we talking about?" an eager reporter asked, hand outstretched with a recorder. Irwin cleared his throat, about to provide an answer when Cornish's phone rang. Holding it up to his ear, Cornish stepped aside for a moment. By his facial expression, the call had been anything but good news. To the O.M.E.N. agents who had seen Cornish for the last few hours, they likely had become familiar with his facial expressions and realized that he generally showed great restraint. For him to be this obviously distressed...something had gone terribly wrong. The only question was where?

"Enhanced reflexes, speed, stamina, strength - powers that no human being is capable of," Irwin answered.

"You can't possibly mean...superpowers?" the reporter responded, laughing nervously. Despite the Incident, many people continued to live in denial. And of course, O.M.E.N. had done a bang up job at ensuring the more intimate details of the Altsoba Massacre were never released. The public couldn't help but be naive.

"This isn't a laughing matter it's--" Irwin began, but he was cut off. Cornish had mouthed something to him and the color drained from Irwin's face. He glanced back at Cornish, as if to confirm that it was true, before then looking back at the assembled press and agents. "That's all the time we have - thank you."

Scarlett Cromwell

Location: Abandoned Warehouse - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Interacting With: Anthony Ryder @Nallore

While it had been overcast that morning and the sun broke through in the afternoon, the temperature had dropped to near freezing that evening. Thunderstorms dominated the night sky, with heavy drizzles pouring intermittently, accompanied with the occasional booms of thunder and flashes of lightning. Most everyone had stopped work for the day as the shadows became more and more prominent, except for those who worked best in the darkness. Whether it was selling guns or cursed items, the low lighting of night helped to cover those illegal transactions. For Anthony, he had one such appointment at an abandoned paper warehouse with Miss Scarlett Cromwell.

A natural witch, she wore a fashionably red ruffled blouse, partnered with a leather jacket, skinny jeans, and black heeled boots. While she didn't appear to be more than eighteen years old, it was always hard to tell with witches. Some of them ensured that they kept a youthful appearance, even if they were eligible for compensation as a senior citizen. For someone as vain as Scarlett, it would have been a mistake to even ask how old she really was. Although unbeknownst to Anthony, she had killed for less before.

Instead, she had a reputation as being temperamental.

But she always paid the price agreed upon and didn't kill the dealer, so she was practically an ideal customer. Tapping her foot, Scarlett huffed. It was two minutes till the appointment and there was no sign of Anthony. He was supposed to give her one of the cursed boxes with an unknown content. She really didn't care what was in it - she simply needed a cursed box and she needed it now.

"No good help these days," Scarlett growled, thinking up a particularly nasty hex. If Anthony didn't show in the next two minutes, she'd use it.

Nancy Parker

Location: Ville au Camp: Main House (Room 202)

Nancy couldn't help but snort at Gio's defense of his acting skills. She was very much aware of his lengthy resumé when it came to theatre performances. Had he not used one of her favorite names, one echoing back to her favorite era, she likely would've teased him about it. Those insults and playful jabs could be saved for next time - she was certain that there would be a next time, of course. With the exception of the Glasses, nothing in her long life had ever suggested anything to the contrary. The wheel of time would keep on turning, bringing back similar situations over and over again.

Of course, there were some that she simply didn't care for.

"I completely believe you," Nancy simply said, her voice laced with sarcasm. She shot Giouse a winning smile. If he had asked her, she would've cleaned up the small mess her clothing had made - but he hadn't. She wasn't about to stop him. It was his room - his rules. The chains seemed like they'd be waiting for later, as Gio handed her a copy of the Script instead of handcuffing her or putting on the ball and chain.

Her eyes flickered over the front page of the Script, tapping her fingers against it for a few seconds. While it would've been nice for a Paradox from this era to have arrived, so that way she could merely mimic their voice, she had a rough idea of how it should sound. "Gorram...Gorram...Gorram," Nancy said, changing her volume and pitch. She then shook out all of her limbs, ready to enter the headspace of her character: Ashley Windshire. She and the Watch had spent a good deal of time on this, researching everything they would need to make this prank their masterpiece. At least, until they came up with something better.

"I reckon you oughta field me some questions, about me and my role in the 'Verse," Nancy said. They had identified a few common slang words for her to use. Gorram was the obvious and most common one. Authenticity was important for both of them, just in case one of the Paradoxes really was from this era. It'd be a tragedy if all of their hard work and research was wasted instantly.

Nora Kingston

Location: Egyptian Museum: Coat Check -> Streets of Cairo

While Nora would have perhaps struck some as the type to slap those who perpetuated sexist and misogynistic standards, she wasn't the sort. She had long resigned herself to the status quo as it was and realized that nothing she did would ever change society. It was a foolish effort to even try, though she did admire those who were determined to set themselves at such a futile task. Equality did not appear to be in the cards - though Peter and George did appear to be making an effort to treat Nora and Vera as equally as they could.

She listened to Vera and Peter's verbal swordplay with amusement, a slight smile on her face. It was good that Vera and George were in front - if pressed, she wasn't certain she would be able to find her way to the permit office without the aid of a map or a prescribed set of directions. She had not been to the establishment on many occasions. A slight blush formed as Peter mentioned the high regard that Vera held her in. It wasn't something that Nora expected by any means. Aside from Neema, very few people had ever complimented her on her intelligence before. Compliments were directed towards her beauty, if there were any at all. As the youngest in a large family, especially given how her parents considered her to be damaged goods, not much attention was placed on Nora.

"I studied mathematics at Girton College for Women, yes," Nora replied with a nod. "Yet since I have not been employed due to my certificate, I can hardly say whether or not that qualifies me as a mathematician. Instead, I mostly use the application of mathematics to deduce patterns and codes - an amateur cryptographer would perhaps be a more apt description."

"As for the marking...It was a Udjtat, the mark of Bastet," Nora answered, referring to Peter's earlier question. She once more did not mention that she had been branded with the mark.
