Felix had hustled back to his cousins’ house as fast as he could, only stopping once he reached the driveway. He paused and rummaged through his satchel for his keys. Well, that’s what it appeared like to nosey Mrs. Hatch across the street - he’d seen her curtains twitch. His eyes were actually closed as he focused on the wards he’d placed around the house. They were fine. No signs of anything untoward, although he’d check his ‘log’ once inside. He breathed a sigh of relief and grabbed his keys from his back pocket to quickly bustle into the house.

“VEEEEEEEEE!” His shout echoed around the large house.

“Did you get my message?” He dumped his bag and keys on the sideboard and quickly unlocked his spell on the drawer below muttering “Aperi.” He slipped out a normal looking logbook that wouldn’t look out of place in any waiting room and ran his finger down the column with today’s date. Only him, his cousins, the postman, and some standard message spells had passed over their boundary today. Felix was proud of the enchantment on the book - a bastardized form of cogitation scriba, woven with an identification spell and linked to his cingo terminus that kept a log of all movement in and out of the house. His finger had smudged the fresh ink on the newly added time of his return and left him sucking the ink off his finger as he replaced the logbook in the drawer with a spoken spell “sera.”

Violet glanced up as she finished putting the chicken parms in the oven. Felix was home and he was shouting like a neanderthal across the house. She smirked, rolling her eyes. He had a way of announcing his arrival. She then whispered under her breath, “Inde rem hanc adducite.” . A cup of steaming tea appeared in her hands, which she supported on her palm while holding the handle of the mug with her other hand. She then moved into the foyer as he was putting the logbook back in its draw, her voice soft and mellow as she spoke, ” Hello, dear. I did get your message. I was hoping you could spill the tea on our new friend in town. “ She gently set the cup in his hand with a smile.”Dinner’s almost ready. I hope you like Italian.”

Her cousin’s shoulder visibly relaxed as the tea was thrust into his hands and he followed her into the kitchen. Violet made a great cuppa but he was never fully certain of what she added to it… Nevertheless, he sipped gratefully as he explained what he’d seen. “He must be the oldest warlock I’ve ever encountered. I caught a glimpse of original Latin in his writing before the spell took over so he could even be from before Judas.”
He closed just eyes and nestled closer to the steam from his cup. “But it was mostly the way he looked at me. It was a hard, piercing stare.” Mind still tired from his workweek, he turned to look at his younger cousin. “I’ll let the coven know but I really can’t be bothered with anything else this evening.” He took another deep gulp of tea. Seriously, what does she put in this? “Are we still going out?”

“Sounds like he’s powerful. We must let them know as soon as possible in case he doesn’t have our best interests in mind.” Violet replied to him as she was taking the chicken parm out of the oven. She began to make plates out, putting the pasta as the side. ” We can still go out. I think Rose is on her way home as we speak so maybe she can join us. Anywhere in particular in mind?” She asked. The plate for her father she wrapped up for him to enjoy upon arriving home, the same for Rose’s. She placed Felix’s plate in front of him to decide if he wanted to eat it now. She began to eat hers nonetheless.

Taking out her phone, she then examined her texts. Giggling at the first one, she responded:

” In that case, I’ll have to come in your next shift to hear some. Get home safe!

Felix dove onto the plate as Violet spoke, his recent pastry and encounter done nothing to curb his appetite. Anyway, he needed to line his stomach. “Okay,” he managed to mumble between mouthfuls, “I’ll send a message to BR then and jump in the shower.” He scooped up his plate, and with a quick peck on his cousin’s cheek, he leaped up the stairs, only to quickly scurry halfway back down. “Thanks for dinner!” he shouted back into the kitchen, where at his behest the utensils started to wash themselves and his shoulder bag floated back up the stairs behind him.

30 minutes later an ephemeral barn owl had taken flight from Felix’s bedroom window, his plants were watered and he himself was showered and changed. He hadn’t even flirted with anyone since moving to Ember Grove over 6 months ago, but tonight that was going to change. Hopefully. Maybe. We’ll see.

As Angel slunk out of the alleyway slowly, her gaze fell upon a girl who had fallen to the floor. She paused, considering helping her up, but someone beat her to it. Angel wasn't sure where he had come from. She began to move around the edge of the building, narrowing her gaze to try to get a better look at the two as they exchanged words. The female was wearing outdated clothes and the male had a certain regalness to his manner. It was possible they were both vampires. Angel often bragged about having a vamp-dar. They were just too easy to pick out sometimes. Unfortunately, she could not hear their conversation from her spot. To make matters worse, there was another guy approaching the club in a peculiar fashion. His suit was no doubt expensive and he did not fit in at all. She saw him muttering but she couldn't hear him from her spot. Maybe the other two could if they were vampires and he knew only they could. This all looked suspicious.

Angel craned her neck to glance around the edge of the building. The vampire was out of sight but she was sure of the way he went. He was hurt and weak so he wouldn't get too far. He'd heal soon surely. She quickly took out her phone and went to her message app. Scanning through her messages, she picked out the hunter group chat. Commander Trotter had been assigning hunters into 5 person squads so that they'd all have each other to contact in an emergency or to work together in case a large scale battle broke out. There was a firm preference for them to go out in at least pairs, but Angel hadn't reached out to work with any of them yet. They had to also leave their location tracking on in the group, which Angel hated since it drained her battery. Their group only had four people at the moment. Apparently, since they had some of their best experiments in the group, they needed to have the best of the best. One guy had come all the way from Sweden and could vanish into smoke. Angel wasn't sure she believed that one. The other two, Sean and Niko, were hard-working and very skilled.

Hey. There are three very strange people outside the Pit. I gotta follow a dangerous vampire right now, so if you guys are out and about, check out the Addams family.

She finished her text and walked casually from the alley, not giving the three any looks at all as she did. It was possible they were just weird humans, but it was better safe than sorry. Angel didn't want anyone to die because she left without stopping them. Once a bit more out of sight, she started to bolt in the direction. She came to an intersection in the road, looking both ways with a sigh. Maybe she had been stalled too long. Angel sighed, looking around for any signs, and luckily spotted a drop on blood on the road to the left. Moving over to it, a trail of small blood stains seemed to be going down the road. Angel followed it down until she started to hear faint voices. She moved into an alleyway and pressed against the wall.

The voices seemed to be getting louder. They were coming this way.

"She wasn't a human, she was too fast." The vampire from before's voice reached her ears, his voice exasperated. He seemed frustrated that no one was hearing him out.

"Oh relax. We'll explain it all soon. "Another male voice answered him and started to laugh maniacally after a pause, "Come out, girl. We know you're here..."

Seriously? It was a set-up all along. She bit her lip to keep herself from cursing under her breath. How many were there? Three? Four?
If they snuck up on her, she was doomed. She was going to have to face them head-on.

Angel moved into the middle of the road, her swords drawn. She held her breath and kept a steady expression as she watched the vampires move toward her. There were four, including the injured one.

"You've been hunting us in our favorite buffet!"The male exclaimed with a grin, "Not very nice of you. " The fourth one hung back cautiously, wary of her. The other three did not seem worried. At any moment, they could be around her, circling like vultures. Angel had to judge their every movement from now on very carefully.

Elsea and Kyran had both seemed to notice her tearing up, so she sniffled and wiped her tears hastily. "Elthrael seemed to be confessing love to me possibly this morning in the most peculiar way, much too affectionate with his hands. It confused me a lot since I have not seen him so long nor did I know him much... but I guess part of me attached to it anyway. I guess he was lying, he didn't even say goodbye." She moved her utensil around her custard as she spoke.

Risa worried she was being selfish and delaying her meal. She had been foolish to put so much weight on this. It was best dropped. "I don't want to keep you all from eating." Risa tried to push her feelings back and began to eat her food, but her the wheels of her brain kept turning. If he was exiled from the River Kingdom, had he been lying about being from somewhere different where they kissed in greeting? Risa furrowed her brows, feeling mixed emotions. She rushed her meal and began to take out Amas from her pouch to pay for everyone.

Ambience:Song playing at club

The music was so loud at The Pit that the floor beneath the crowd seemed to vibrate with the bass. The muffled sound of it could be heard from outside as people lined up at the door to show ID or negotiate entry with a rather enormous bodyguard. Back inside, strobe lights of varying colors moved over the darkened room, illuminating the masses of drunk college kids. Some being overly affectionate with strangers, others just in their own little world.

Angel was never a fan of having so many sweaty people on top of her, so she'd stick to the back of the crowd with the stoners. She could make out the smoke twisting around the area through the air, illuminated only by the lights that would speed over different sections of the club. It smelled like every substance under the sun was being used in just the five-foot radius around her.

Sometimes she wanted to scream at them all. How could they just let themselves be so vulnerable? Vampires always circled this floor like vultures unbeknownst to them all. She knew this for a fact, yet she could say nothing, one of the many policies of Operation Humanity she disagreed with.

Angel had been leaning up against the wall for some time now, hoping to catch a glimpse of something to no avail. Unfortunately, it was not going to be so easy. She pushed off the wall, pulling her hair out of its braid with a tight pull and shaking it out. Angel adjusted her top a bit before applying a layer of lipstick to her lips. She had come prepared otherwise, her eye make-up well done and her outfit a little sexier than her usual preference. She moved into the crowd and easily blended in by moving to the music. There was no awkward transition; she got right into it, moving to the music surprisingly well.

It was freeing to just shut her eyes and feel the rhythmic bass underneath her feet, focusing on the music. She knew it’d seem silly to most, but she cherished these moments where she could let loose. It would not be long before her phone would start blowing up from higher-ups at Operation Humanity asking where she was and why she was at this “dirty club” again alone. They had a tracker in her, after-all. They treated her and another Hunter named Nikolai way different, since they were their personal little science projects. Angel had no idea how much Nikolai knew, but she did not know much at all herself; he was not an easy guy to talk to. All she knew was that they did something to her and whatever they did, worked. Since it worked, they really did not want her to die. Angel, being the difficult girl she was, went off alone and immersed herself in dangerous situations anyway.

Hands were soon on her waist, moving up the sides of her body. She could feel breath on her neck. It had not taken long for one to take the bait after-all. With a drunk-girl-giggle, she tilted her head back to look at her admirer. He was quite handsome so she could not complain. She twisted her body to face him, tracing her fingers under his chin, her eyes traveling up to look at his. It was hard to tell for a moment, but once the light moved over his face, the red tint became prominent.“Aren’t you bold?”

“And aren’t you beautiful?” He practically purred in her ear. He had a smoky, velvet voice. “What’s a ruby like you doing all alone in a place like this?” She wondered how many other victims he had said the same thing to. This would surely be the last time. He had clearly been watching her for some time for him to figure out she was alone without informing him. Her friends could have been in the bathroom for all he knew.

“Waiting for a handsome miner to come dig me out.” Angel replied coquettishly, letting her voice slur in parts of her speech.

It was not long after some dancing and flirting that they were kissing and moving towards the back of the room. It was going according to plan as usual, but she needed to make sure he went through the side door to the alley. Angel broke away and took his hand, giving him a coy smile as she led him to the door and outside. He shoved her up against the wall, gripping her roughly and his kissing more passionate. She could tell his hunger was translating into his actions. Angel peeked at him to see one of his eyes was also open, glancing in the direction towards the street. It was silent besides the muffled music inside. There was no one walking by and no cars passing on the road. It was eerie thinking that if she was anyone else, they’d be unknowingly about to die in this moment.

His lips were moving down her face to her neck now, a low chuckle escaping his lips. She had to act now. She reached over to the nearby dumpster, grasping the handle of her hidden blade and using the strength holding her against the wall against him in order to pull the blade down into his shoulder and downward faster than he would have ever expected. With a wail of agony, he moved away from her in shock as she pulled it out. The blade’s blue light shone in the dark alley as Angel moved off the wall, picking up a second blade from the ground. She held them out at both her sides with a playful grin.

Most hunters went for guns and far-ranged weapons. It was far less risky since vampire’s strength and speed were far too superior to try to take on in a close-range battle. However, Angel’s speed could almost match his, so the blades worked well for her. She also enjoyed the directness of the kill. The vampires winced, moving backward. These blades were not coated in anything right now, so he’d unfortunately heal, but it’d be slow. The whole sultry demeanor he had going on had been completely replaced by malicious fury.

“You stupid little girl. You have no idea what you’re messing with.” He snarled and ran at her immediately. She moved hastily out of the way, sliding behind him. Angel knew it was imperative he did not let her grab her. His strength would be the death of her. She swiftly moved her blade to attack him again, but he barely managed to move out the way. The male vampire retreated, putting some space between them as he stared at her with genuine confusion and maybe a little bit of fear.

Angel straightened, ready to attack again if he pursued it. She did not want to kill him this time.

“You’re… You’re not a human.” He tilted his head, starting to circle her,” What are you? You don’t smell like a werewolf. Are you a witch?”

She grinned ominously at him, not giving him an answer, “Ooo… Spooky, huh?”

The vampire glared at her with annoyance. She could tell he was hesitating to attack. He was unsure what he was dealing with, perhaps he was young.

“You’re not the only predator tonight.” Angel told him, her grin fading and her voice growing an iciness,” You’re done preying on humans here. I don’t want to see you here ever again or I will fucking torture you to death.” She hated to let him live, but it was necessary. The hunters refused to tell her where Viet Et Mort was located, probably to stop her from trying anything stupid, so she had to figure it out herself. Though, it was a stretch he’d be from that clan. It was possible this would be trial and error.

Just as she suspected, he turned and made a run for it. She knew she was lucky he was not aware of her already, and that he was weak and young. Angel had started to make a reputation for herself among hunters and vampires alike. Many had started to recognize her as one of the hunters’ lab rats who escaped Desiree, who could run as fast as a vampire, and had hair the color of blood with no dye-job necessary.

She only waited a moment before she started to follow the vampire, keeping to the alleys and shadows as she ran in the direction he had retreated.

Closer and closer I get to having your cold, dead heart in my hand, Desiree.

Malachi glanced at Rei and gave him a faint smile when he offered to help, "No that's alright. No training today."
Before he could explain more, Corvina joined, questioning the situation. The girl was actually rather polite and appreciative. They really had lucked out on a good pair of humans, kind and cooperative for the most part when they weren't firing word cannons, but that would only translate well in battle anyway.

Nym voiced Malachi's thoughts: that they'd probably all have to leave the area. It could be that nothing would come of it, but it was not worth the risk. The child had seemed vengeful and even perhaps suggested their deaths. It was best for all of them. Luckily Nym had not been seen, so if he had some place to retreat to, he'd be well off as long as he laid low. Malachi couldn't pull his gaze away as Kenia asked where he'd go, and he responded by telling her she could not know. His heart ached as they hugged, and once they had finished the hug, he put his hand on Kenia's shoulder, whispering, "You'll see him again."

To his surprise, Corvina came over to hug them both and he reluctantly stared down at her in shock. His arms slowly fell around her and he hugged her back. He wanted to kick himself. You never learn, Malachi. He thought warningly to himself with despair. It had started off so easy: training up soldiers to kill Aklenroth, but now... It was beginning to feel, whether or not he'd admit it, like he had a family again. Malachi knew this could be bad. He had to snap himself out of it and take the situation seriously, or he would end up not being willing to let the two battle. Though, since he was willing to put his life down for this cause, he supposed he was willing to die to protect them, so he let go of Corvina and said, with sheer honesty, "I will do whatever it takes to keep you two alive." Maybe there was no running from it. Even his heart now cold and empty, was still so prone to beating and caring so much for people he spent his time with.

Kenia then led the two upstairs to help pack, and he turned to go gather some of his things too when Nym's voice reached his ears yet again.

"Malachi may I speak to you for a moment?"Malachi whirled on his heels to glance at him. "Thank you for putting up with her, I know she's not the easiest to get along with sometimes. The loss of her children and betrayal of her husband has changed her, but I know that deep down there's still great good in her. She just needs someone to break through those walls and I think you and those humans might be the ones to do that."

Malachi let him continue before speaking his mind, taking his words in and processing them.

"I do have a favor to ask of you, however. Watch out for her for me? I know that is a lot to ask and I will never hold it against you if something were to happen to her, but it'll make this old man feel better to know that she'll have someone there for her."

"Kenia..."Malachi drew off, clearly completely lacking self-awareness that her name made him smile a little just saying it, "She is a good woman. I've seen it in her. I will be there for her best I can, Nym." He put a hand on his shoulder respectfully. It was a heavy burden to look a man in the eyes and vow to protect his daughter, and it was not the first time Malachi had taken it on. But as he thought before, things would be different now. He would not fail the people around him again, he'd go as far as to die to protect them. Maybe he wouldn't upright let them all know he felt that way, to keep them from caring too much for him and suffering the pain of loss, but he would bear the burden. He was used to it anyway.

"Have a good night serving drinks at weenie hut junior ♥"

Texted to Rose approximately five minutes ago

In the quaint little kitchen of the empty Leblanc house, the music emitted from a speaker and managed to make its way through each and every room. Violet was mixing a marinara sauce, her body swaying with the music. Her hair was back in a black bow and she wore a white apron over her black lace dress. She had on some trendy black platforms as well. She pursed her lipstick-coated lips thoughtfully as she tasted the sauce. A delighted smile crossed her face in reaction and she twirled around smoothly on her feet, waving her hands outward as all the cabinets and the fridge doors opened simultaneously. She then used her fingers to delegate as ingredients began to practically dance in midair to the island counter. Her gaze locked on the pasta box as it moved swiftly above a pot of boiling water and began to empty its contents right in.

Matilda, who? Violet thought with amusement. A flash of white in the corner of her eye made her tilt her head in the direction of the speaker to see Chéri had hopped up on the counter. She folded her arms as the ferret stared at her without another movement. "Don't judge me. I'm not lazy." She told the animal with a light-hearted pout.

The ferret simply hit the next button on her phone. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by the Police started to boom through the room. Violet giggled, her hands folding near her mouth. "Oh, Chéri, you little menace." She made her way over to scoop her up in her hands and then set her down on a stool. She crumbled some of the spare chicken meat on a little dish to give as a treat to Chéri. After washing her hands, she began to prepare chicken parm.

Violet enjoyed being home alone and not just because she could do whatever she wanted. She knew the perfect thing for Felix, Rose and her father to come home to would be a home-cooked meal. Rose and father had their own things to do while Violet had been taking time off school for now. She had sent in a few applications to some part-time jobs, but she was not entirely sure yet. Though, the cute little german bakery in town seemed like a perfect choice for her; she was thinking of pursuing that one.

Whilst in her thoughts, a whispering voice made her pause. She did a slight side-ways gaze at the translucent bird as she listened. I guess if anyone asks how I knew about the new warlock, I can quite literally tell them that a little birdie told me. Despite her thought, she was perplexed by the situation. They did not get many new warlocks in town. Who on earth was he that even Felix did not know of him? He certainly was not part of their coven.

Her phone buzzed not too long after, the speaker reading out Felix's text as she continued her work. Felix was on his way home. Waving her hand, she turned the speaker off to give a quiet environment for him to walk into. She certainly hoped he'd give more information upon arrival as she could not help but be very curious.
