Excellent answer. Factually correct and 100% true.

I presume said moderator is too busy moderating the discord for penis and cum jokes. :)

@Terminal As of recently, neither am I. I'll instruct my friends to pass on your sympathies, because that's the only way I can do that now. Sorry.

I really freaking hate when people try to sneak in things like cat ears, or cute fangs in roleplays where genetic diversity means something. Say a Vampire is a top tier monster in that universe. Mixing it with a cat creature won't result just in some cute ears it will have ramifications on the character. Doing something just because it's cute in that setting doesn't sit well with me.

Getting tired of all these advanced rps dying before any real traction or conclusions are made. Makes me question why I even bother going through all the trouble with a big cs just to get involved enough to be greeted by the big middle finger of rp death. Not sure if this is a normal problem or not but man can I pick'em...

The apathy rate on the site is ridiculous. I don't even bother with the forum with that being one of the foremost reasons; I won't make something if I can't just rewrite it into my own lore the moment it fails, if it fails.

I can totally understand that view. I've been in about 20 different roleplays from the time I signed up til now, with only one being an adventure that has reached over 250 posts (casual and advance—not including 1x1s).

I can say that I am probably on the other side of that as well as I only had one RP that really lasted the time, and to me that was pure fluke. A heap of my roleplays had people ditch or even state that they ran out of ideas on what to do. Like ffs... why did you even join then?

It's frustrating, it's annoying, it's hard but hope you eventually find something that's worth your while.

Well, its funny, because the only rp ive been in that has still been kicking for years is the fiary tail rp i joined and am now a co gm for (and i havent even watched the show past the laxus arc). Its gone through its phases of near death but we have refused to let it go completely. The part thats funny is that its a free rp, haha. Its had its quirks, but it still gets by somehow.

@JollanPersonally I try my best to stay in roleplays unless the rest of the group have completely abandoned it, or my own character has become a hindrance. I even try when the rp stops being fun, and I can let my character off at a decent point in the story. I've only been in two ever finshed rp's. One I forced a finish so it technically doesn't count. And the other one lasted all the way to the end only by me randomly piggy backing the gm's plot into my own creation. The rp was a percy jackson rp in the free section. You'd think people would be more inclined to actually FINISH the rp that they put effort into rather than wordlessly dropping it mid way majorly inconveniencing everyone. It's like going to a party with a group of friends and then leaving but before leaving you take one of the wheels off of their car without telling anyone.

A lot of RPing is trial & error, building a network, and simple dumb luck. It's the nature of the hobby. Always has been.

A lot of it is just finding a group who are mature enough to be honest about their intention really.

I'm sorry you've had some bad experiences. I always try to be honest about the level of commitment I can bring to a roleplay at the start. I actually prefer advanced, because while it does often move slower it matches a pace I can follow. I prefer posting maybe one long post every 10 days and really getting to enjoy the story and keep it alive at a slow momentum, than start at a pace which is just impossible to keep up with.

Ask Ink said though, this is really just part of the hobby. It's awesome when you find a good solid group!

I almost do exclusively Advanced. I just made a High Casual RP, but that's the first one I have ever made and I still expect close to Advanced level posts. And as someone who mostly does Advanced, I agree. Things tend to die. Or go slowly, and by that I mean too slow. Usually it can be a good slow, but sometimes it's just a *checks watch* kind of slow.

The truth, really. The majority of RPs I've joined in have died in a blazing fire, while only a select few are still going strong. The AoT RP I'm in is going strong with 276 IC posts over the course of five months. We even have a discord server, and join RPs that someone else in our group made. Sure, we've had a few run-ins with group arguments and some people needing to go on hiatus that almost led to a RP death, but we're still around and kicking.

It might have to do with the fact that we're all weebs anime watchers, but I scored lucky with them. They even helped me break my ties with a RP group I had been with since late 2012. Anxious me didn't want to leave because of how long I had been with them, but it feels amazing without being around all the harassment and spite that was sent my way.

Lol, wow I acually sparked up a conversation! Hopefully I can find a good adv rp soon, but I think I'm gonna sit them out for a short while. Don't get me wrong, I love adv Rps, because I can make a character that I can really show out with.

@vancexentan I feel ya, I try not to leave until the GM calls it as well. I haven't had one silently die on me without a word YET, but I feel like one of them are close to it unfortunately. Seems like its not right to jump into someone's rp, get involved, and the drop out leaving a void.

@Stormflyx Ah, its fine, its nothing you have to apologize for. I kinda knew it would be a little like this at the start, just didn't expect it to happen so often.

@POOHEAD189 YOOO, its been a minute. I'll have to check out your rp later if you don't mind another. Actually high casual sounds pretty good.

@PoiThe Fairy Tail rp I'm in is kinda like that at times. it was the first Rp I joined on this site 3 years ago and even though it got a reboot as a new thread, its still mostly the same people with the same characters. We kinda think of it as an alternate reality at this point. Its had its moments where you could have believed it to be dead, but we somehow kept it alive. Now I'm CoGM on it, which is still kinda new to me but good practice for GMing my own stuff later I guess.

@Inkarnate SO I've noticed. Cant say I didn't have fun with the RPs that died though so its not a total loss. Besides, at least I archiced them so I can pull that cs and edit it for other RPs.

phew, op was right... feels good to post about this stuff.

Out of curiosity, do you have experience with other sites? Are they less bad in terms of apathy? I've never played other than on here, but I get the feeling it's nowhere near as bad as some of the other sites.

Honestly? I don't think this site is special, no. Roleplayersguild never advanced beyond the first 3 posts for the roleplays I did manage to start up there. Game forum roleplays have proven notoriously unreliable. Small forums have a tendency to shut down. Cortex Roleplay, a platform I diddled with for a while, had the same issue. Discord I don't roleplay on for other reasons, but sure, apathy is rampant there.

Roleplayerguild these days is the primary platform I use for roleplay related things given the issues on other sites, but it still has issues that I don't escape. It may well just be an issue with roleplaying as a whole - a whim that people don't really take seriously, so they don't really care when they drop other people anyways. I focused on this site because I don't even bother with any other site at this point.

Yeah, RPG is about the given average. I’ve been on a large handful of sites and outside of the small dedicated communities (which still suffer from fatigue or hiatuses) there’s real no discernable difference. There are so many factors to “why” that you can’t really define the problem and fix it.

Every. Single. Nations. RP. Is. Advanced.

I like nations rp, atleast I think I do because I've literally never been able to join one because they're ALL ADVANCED, I know you guys like advanced rps, but would it kill you just to mix it up a little?, if variety is the spice of life, this is the exact opposite. I will never be able to join one unless I somehow become one of the worlds best writers.

I mean not all of them are. But is it that hard to try to apply for one?
