@Grim I'm aware that's usually how it's done. Honestly if a GM made the rules that you'd have to make a sample post but was also clever enough to describe what it should be about, whether doing what you suggested or making a topic or broad theme which since everyone's reading your CS's anyway it would be fun to see what other people came up with. And I could see that being worth doing because it adds a little extra community interaction.

Thanks, I'm hoping to introduce that sort of system in any future RPs I might run.

Can we keep this thread for venting frustrations?

If you wish to discuss about character sheet, the setup of them or any other kind of stuff, create a new thread with a topic.

Aw, but there was an actual civil discussion taking place in the bitch thread! Even if it was starting to turn into bringing up past grudges again.

@Odin Unfortunately most of that is too vague (without proper explanation or clarification) for me to empathize with what you're talking about exactly. I'll leave the personal feelings at the door, since they're not particularly helpful.

I know people have told me things, it just depends on their personal history (or complete lack thereof) with me on how much I'll take them seriously...They just usually don't give me good reasons for those things. I did specify concrete ones. But don't worry I wasn't trying to rake you over the coals. But it's unfortunate you think I'm unfunny, I'd say that's about the only thing I'm particularly good at. I guess you wouldn't care for real life me either because I do a lot of self-deprecating humor. I wear my friends nearly choking to death on their drinks at my jokes, as a badge of honor.)

I mean if it was based on any actual evidence or examples. Like if I role-played with you in the past and I wasn't polite when bringing up mistakes for instance. But I've never role-played with you. But if you weren't making a personal statement and making a general one instead, that I probably couldn't be polite when pointing out mistakes to people I role play with. There's also many, many points to the contrary of me politely pointing out people spelling errors and getting a perfectly reasonable response back. Some have thanked me for it. If you feel that judging someone entirely, based on limited experience for things that could potentially be beneficial and perfectly innocuous. That kinda sorta sounds like bias to me, but never said you couldn't have them. I guess we can leave it to agreeing to disagree.

(This below isn't at you it's just to save from spamming the thread.)
Having no internet for 3 days fucking sucks. And typing posts from my phone is going to be incredibly arduous and a pain in my ass, because I'm a horribly impatient person and looking at a phone too long hurts my eyes.

There we go, got the vent out of the way...

There is no reason not to include a history - it's the personality that's highly unneeded. Whether or not you believe a history is irrelevant IC is one thing but it provides good hooks for other peoples' characters to hook into if invited to/if they are good roleplayers that know character interactivity drives a roleplay forwards. History motivates why a character acts a certain why if properly written (which I'll admit mostly isn't the case on RPG, but ideally it does) and substitutes a personality section entirely.

Failure to include some form of history is only acceptable if the character is literally fresh out of the womb. Otherwise your character will resemble something close to a walled off section in the RP - floating on its' own with no connectivity to the roleplaying world around him/her and you might be better off writing a book or making your own solo RP.

@BrokenPromise Fair enough, length can be irrelevant at most times. Essential is subjective I think - imho, history should always be essential to tie a character to the world. I find that saying 'history will be revealed IC' is a thing that poor writers usually do when they can't be arsed to write a history or something. Leaving it completely out is, as described above, also just poor connection to the world around you. Short or long, there should be some kind of idea of what this character has done and gone through to motivate thoughts, actions, etcetera. It forms your area of reference - seems to be a critical part of a good character sheet to me.

EDIT: inb4 'it's in my head and that's what counts' yeah but if it's in your head then you might as well write it down.

I disagree in some ways,
I think that personality is important, it may not need to be included in the CS but I believe that the player should have an idea of the personality to keep it constant.

C'est ca. Personality is the single most useless part of a CS, especially when we go into extreme depth. One paragraph or even just 5 traits or generalizations are enough. As opposed to 1+ paragraphs, because then it just becomes a struggle to find the right words for a character that hasn't had the chance to even enter the IC yet and establish just how he talks.

So, another small off-site bitch but

First time I have ever had someone moan at me for changing my profile pic cause I was bored of the other one

Because it apparently "confused her cause she doesn't read usernames but goes on profile pictures" so therefore I'm not entitled to change it apparently XD

Excuse me, good sir/dame/indeterminate! Clearly, you have no idea the deep and traumatic experience that people go through when by your actions, you not only change your face, you shake the very world around you! You are given one chance to choose a face, and you must choose it wisely!

Indeed it is. People can change from day to day, and if it isn't agreeable to them, I suppose then ultimately, it is their loss.

However, I think you may also want to think of this other person's perspective. While some people are not bothered by minute changes, or even barely notice them, it's not always the same. Some people are dependent on a stable environment or routine - such as people with OCD, who feel the incessant need to do things in certain ways at certain times, or else their whole world will come crashing down. As someone with Asperger's Syndrome, I, too, can be bothered if certain things don't turn out how I expected them to. Their reasons may not be the same as you perceive them to be. Some people are just babies about it, true... but, for others, it's more... complicated.

In summary; you can look in a mirror to see around the corner, but if you're not looking around the corner with your own eyes, can you truly say you know all of what's on the other side? Thus, do not pre-emptively say you know so, and act accordingly.

I'm sorry but no amount of philosophical viewpoints will make up for the fact someone directly contacted a user over Skype just to demand that they never change their avatar.

I have a friend like that. While they haven't said anything in awhile, they would tell me to change it because it didn't fit their "tastes."

That's true, although my tastes are like a revolving door. Another friend counted that I had changed my avatar on discord 7 times in November.
