In terms of the whole discussion on time, I tend to follow the Comic/TV rule where I don't really mention specific dates other than important ones and play very fast and loose in time so that it all fits together nicely.

I honestly just kinda figure "Eh, it's happening at some point in time. Fuck the details." I mostly include actual in-game time to set whether the scene takes place during the day or during the night.

I believe it is all happening at once, Doctor Manhattan style.

I just don't think it tends to work in a narrative sense. But to each's own.

Speaking of time...

I decided to retroactively alter the dates of my last two posts, in order to stretch out Frank's crusade so he did it all over the course of a few weeks instead of just one week. Just saying in case someone is confused when my next post is set on the 26th. Once I finish up the Manfredi arc I'm probably gonna go with everyone else's approach and not provide specific dates in my posts.

In the long run, we're all dead. And in the long run, no one is going to give a fuck whether we've been a bit timey-wimey with our posts so long as said posts tell a good story.

I'll take timey-wimey posts over ideas that have been plotted out second-by-second that never see the page every single day of the week.

The loss of a cohesive, consistent narrative is a tragedy that will never be forgotten.

Careful now, Byrd. Every time someone references Objectivism, I feel tempted to drop whatever character I'm doing to play a certain faceless Objectivist vigilante man.

Only way to have a cohesive, consistent narrative in an RP is for you to write it all yourself. All the different characters and writing styles throws that idea right out the window.

Atlas Shrugged is a horribly written book. Maybe that will help you step off the ledge.

Or, just a thought. And this may be wild and crazy, but bear with me.
We focus on the short term, don't plot out every single aspect of each post a year in advance like you said, and also just toss a date on there to keep some semblance of continuity moving forward. Especially if, in season two, @Master Bruce gives a hard start and finish dates to go by. Times aren't necessarily needed, but a date, at least, is always nice to make sure things gel together and we don't end up all crossing the streams.

In open-world sandbox games that have various moving pieces, I find that to be the best way to maintain cohesion without future finagling.
If this were a structured RP with a handful of players, I wouldn't date my posts, either.

Not suggesting that this should be a mandatory rule by any mean, you all do what you want. But the whole "in the long run it doesn't matter so let's embrace timey-wimey narrative" seems odd to me. There are some things where stating in the long run it won't matter applies well, but I don't think this is one of them.

Just because I don't date mine doesn't means no one else should. Keep going if that's what works for you. I feel like MB would be in agreement with that philosophy. I just don't personally care to do it.

If the phrase "a bit timey-wimey" doesn't indicate to you that I was being slightly facetious, I don't know if anything ever will.

Well, "in the real world"*, time can be warped and is very subjective depending on where you are in space. When you think about it, the Flashes fuck up the time-stream constantly, just by existing. Then there's all these weird space gods whose technology can rip moments from each other's arms with effectiveness rivaling American border patrols. Most people with an in-character perspective would probably struggle to date each days events anyhow. It really doesn't seem like a stretch for me to say that time is kinda murky for superheroes who aren't investigating something. It doesn't seem contrived from my perspective. There's no way that there's enough time in Batman's life for all the adventures that have been written for him in any given continuity, really, especially when you consider how often individual missions can involve spending multiple weeks or months.

*I don't believe in the real world.
