Scratch class off the list. At this point, she might not even have time for a proper dinner. Suppressing the sigh that her more ‘human’ side would have released, Amaryllis glanced once more at Aurora’s breathing, living form amongst the other individuals that remained unconscious still, before nodding at Hunter Rina’s assessment. One vanguard, one backline. The knight tapped the tip of her shoe against the pavement, shaking off invisible dust, before walking off.

~~~
They climbed atop skyscrapers, dipped into sewers, ventured through dingy hotels, broke up a gambling den, and finally, the sun falling behind them, the duo found themselves before the abandoned school that Amaryllis had taken note of all those days back. This close, there certainly was a sense of menace about the place, but more noticeable was impact marks and craters that marked the pavement. A fight? Monster slaying? Territorial dispute? Or just a warning for others who may approach? She clicked her tongue, the Sword thrumming in a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. Not fear, but a healthy dose of paranoia in case she was walking into a kill zone.
So she sped up, just slightly, each step covering the length of five as the fencer bounded over, not bothering to look back to confirm if Rina was in her sniping position. Stepping into the barren entrance way, Amaryllis took one deep breath and wrinkled her nose. Hamburgers. Oily, greasy, and not all that tasty. Even maidens of perpetual darkness were still just hobos living off junk food, huh? That brought a smirk to her face at least, remembering how utterly unpalatable the meals her own backpack provided, but amusement was soon replaced by concern. What if this was just a group of real, school squatting punks, choking down hamburgers they bought by collecting aluminum cans?
Ah, what a painnnnnn.
Clearing her throat, Amaryllis called out to the nothings that hid in the shadows and the corners of her mind, “Good evening, fellow fatebound! If this be thine territory, then I shall wait at the threshold to be properly received, but if the master of this land is ‘silence’, then I must trespass. Please, excuse my intrusion upon this dead land.”
Ew. Even she thought that one was a bit weak.
Dangerous. This was definitely dangerous now, and Yuuki didn’t understand why they were dealing with someone who was so willing, so eager to interact with them. In a world where the term ‘cultists’ made everyone else freeze up or disappear, where foreigners where looked upon with suspicion and distrust, why the hell would this particular cat boy be totally down with being friendly with them? Because of their optimism? Because they were giving these strangers the benefit of the doubt? Or because…
A flash of light, and a flickering ball of flame. Yuuki’s hand instantly pressed against his chest, wondering if it would be internal combustion that ended him this time. There was definitely no trust now, definitely no reason at all to follow someone like that. In a world where it was apparently completely fine to kill strangers on the street, this smiling, fireballing cat boy was definitely dangerous. With the accusation of being cultists alone, he could kill them all.
So Yuuki took the more rational path. “Hey,” he said, turning to Aaron, “Mind giving my backpack back?” There wasn’t much of a response from the tear-stained boy, and Yuuki ended up having to awkwardly pull it off from the shoulders instead. No resistance or response, but that was disturbing in its own right, especially with how animated Aaron had been earlier. He cast a concerned glance at the crouched boy, but shook off any sympathy as he hitched up his pack once again.
“Count me out, buddy,” Yuuki said, “I’ll just stick with Miss Pacifica in this case. Good luck with your adventures and all though.”
Seriously, it sounded like they’d need it, if they were going to continue to play hide and seek with that gas mask cockwad.
Chapter 1: Leaving The Nest
It was the ninth day since the four of them had arrived at this alien landscape. It had been seven days since the four of them had seen each other, seven days since the beginning of their training. And now, bearing second-hand arms meant to start off their career as monster hunters, invaders of the continent of Altera on the behest of the Jeulian Empire, here they stood once more. Some had bled. Others had excelled. Still more struggled. But it was the morning of the ninth day, in that central plaza that so many other members of the Silver Moon ‘Army’ convened before setting off, and though the others hadn’t changed, they have.
It was the ninth day. Some were in debt. Others were penniless.
It was time to leave the nest, to see if they would fly or fall.
“A pleasure meeting you then, Hunter Rina,” Amaryllis said, bowing slightly, “May our partnership be fruitful, however fleeting it may be. As for that unholy maiden, however…”
She closed her eyes, breathing deeply before extending one hand. This wasn’t magic, nor was this any skill that the knight herself possessed. No, it was simply the same painful communion with her Patron, whose alien senses remained unimpeded by whatever shadows the magecraft of maidens called forth. A soft exhale, a mental question towards her unsated sword, and…there it was. The spark of spiralling pain, digging deep into her palms and then clawing outwards to her extremities, an agonizing finger pointed out in the direction of her mark.
…but fuck, that always hurt way too much. Was the Sword being extra mad today, having only slain the meatless and transient?
Opening her eyes once more with the faintest grimace in her expression, Amaryllis rubbed the back of her hand softly, as if caresses could remove phantom pain, before nodding in the general direction that the Sword had directed her.
“The direction has been set, Rina. As far as landmarks are concerned, there is an abandoned school along that way, but to be blind to other avenues is the folly of an inexperienced tracker. You’ve no other commitments this day, yes?”
A pause. Shit, she wasn’t going to make it to class, huh.
“If so, let’s be off. My work here is done.”
This was a lot of trouble.
Yup, Yuuki could feel it already. Ashton pulling out his phone had consequences that were simply not worth the trouble to begin with, and the fact that the action both made this 'Aer' super aggressive AND brought the attention of another fellow who seemed to be a total fan of cultist chic AND triggered the backpack-stealer's PTSD or whatever meant that there were now more than just a few folks who were looking at their general directions. Awesome. Great. This felt like a goddamn repeat of their time at that main road, huh?
He flashed a quick look in Ashton's direction, half-accusatory and half-dismissive, before raising his own hands up in a sign of surrender. "I don't know about these people, cause we all just met like...less than a half hour ago, but I'm personally grateful for you telling us about this, Miss Pacifica. Let's just ignore the crazies and head to the authorities, yeah? Don't wanna be an illegal, after all."
Fucking hell, this was a mess that he just didn't want to have to fucking deal with right now, but apparently his dad's gods were real and were conspiring to fuck him over and over and over again.
Hiding a grimace, Yuuki uncorked the thermos that he held in his hand and took a quick slurp of tea. Definitely never again.
I'm still around. Just waiting for Floodtalon to post~
Mm, that's disappointing. Aight, if someone else has a burning desire to go for a Black Lancer, you can give them the spot then. Peace~
So this is a canon RP then?
Naw, even Extra Vlad doesn't encompass the hilarity of Historic Vlad being the sad lad that had to reconquer his own territory three times cause he could never hold onto it long enough. Such a Defender, always invading his own lands. (・ω< )★
Mm, guess I should confirm my ideas here before going ahead. I plan on making Black Lancer as Vlad III, with a buncha changes. Summoned in Romania, he would be a heroic defender, but outside of Romania, he'd be a vicious invader, going by how many times he's actually spent in history reclaiming his own state and invading others, as well as his nighttime operations.
To supplement that, the biggest changes would be a skill called 'Little Dragon' that serves as a composite of Monstrous Strength and Disengage, the class skill of Presence Concealment, and a Kazilki Bey that allows him to spread his domain through 'bloodshed' or some conceptual hijinks like that, instead of establishing it through Demonic Defender of State or just summoning it straight up from his body.
