~|Ryria T’Vessi|~

Ryria’s good arm snapped up and her gun took quick aim. Her eyes narrowed as her finger threatened the trigger, ready to take out Serena’s last drone during its retreat. Her mind counted the seconds down until she fired. An alarm broke her focus causing her finger to release as the drone made it out of range safely. Her head instinctively lowered to note its origins. Her omnitool. Annoyance crossed her expression before she lowered herself down into a cross legged position, slipping her gun beside her. Already Sabinus’ voice crackled into existence informing them their exercise was cut short and a few scientists need a babysitter.

At least it was something familiar to her.

Upon the order to move, she wasted little time rising up and snatching up her training weapons on her way down the exterior stairways. It was a well practiced movement to save energy as she reached the ground. She followed the others back to the compound’s start. By now, the numbness had faded away to slight tingling and the bullet’s effects were fading finally. Ryria tightened her fingers, fisting them once then opening them. Satisfied with the result, she gathered up her gear wordlessly for the mission. She even had her medical kit waiting to be brought along conveniently. Trying not to think how it got there, she was strapped into the shuttle and ready to go.

The trip wouldn’t take long. During it, Tazen began to brief them over details in regards to tactics. Being closest to the cockpit, the Asari listened intently. Her helmet covered her indifferent stare in the Salarian’s direction while he mentioned how things had gotten wrong. She slightly was surprised that the team had been left alone to scavenge when there had been Kett reports all over. However, it wasn’t her place to judge. They all needed to survive and risks were required, manpower scarce or stretched thin.

Her head shifted toward the Turian female then to the human female, her only acknowledgement of their existence in the shared space. Beyond that, the Asari said nothing. When they touched down, she stepped off like the rest. Her figure followed close, leaving the appropriate space between her teammates. Her feet kicked just enough dust with her march to keep up. When the teams separated, Ryria’s eyes turned to the Salarian. Her hip cocked so she could set her hand to rest on its curve while he gave the orders.

Following orders were easy, through Ryria couldn’t help wondering when things would go wrong. They always did in these situations and one had to ready to adapt to it. Every nerve seemed to fire off a sense of awareness, heighten her senses into a flight or fight stage. Details that only fear could locate popped out at her. However, she wasn’t ready to run just yet. Upon hearing the word support, her hand reached for her rifle and snapped outward into a ready position. Distance was the key element here which made the rifle best.

When the tactical cloaks went up, Ryria took cover behind the closest possible crate. Her figure disappeared silently to provide distant fire should it be needed.

My apologies for not posting but I've taken a rather large hit to my confidence to DM.

I'm currently I'm on the fence honestly. I've sort of lost muse for Noah a bit, though I could easily recover with time and posts. It would just take time. With the fact your confidence is at an all-time low, I personally think it might be worth considering taking a break and rebuilding your confidence, even a few days or whatever is needed. At least put it on the table as an option. Then come back, reboot it and try again with a different approach. It's a good rp idea, after all and might gain additional interest. That's my thoughts. I'm good with whatever the majority decides.

To all Resistance members, both Future and Past, could you all fill this out hen pm it to me and the GMs? It would help me with Charles greatly and also give me a timeline for when everyone joined it and how many members we have between the timeskip and the present. If anyone wants to do an actual memory, I would be pleased to weave that with you and place it into the IC at some point when important unless it’s recent then we can work things out with the timing.

Date of interview: Arc 1, Day ?

Questions and Answers from Players

From Dracorex:

Vampire powers:

I know we've talked about them learning to control blood, but what does that even mean? Bloodbending A:TLA style, or....?

What else is on the table? Glamour and illusion? Shapechanging? Hypnosis/compulsions/whatever you want to call it, that ability to make some hapless human do as you bid?

Bloodbending with vampires is similar to A:TLA, but you can only manipulate the blood a vampire has consumed and stored within your stomach. You can affect certain traits of the blood, like use as a barrier, strengthen it, sharpen it and form. However, it is still blood so things that affect blood will affect it as well. Example, superheating it will cause it to evaporate since it’s still very much mostly water. Clotting agents can make it hard to manipulate or possible solidify into a useless mass, etc. I’m going to let you determine this on your own with your best judgement on each case, purely because I couldn’t literally list everything and it’s more work than I feel is needed for it.

No glamour and illusions, they seem to fit Fae more and we have mention of those in the world. Also miracle Angels use this by infusing light and air with their essence.

No Shapeshifting because feels again like a Fae and also a werewolf ability, with the later having more advanced physical abilities.

Yes to minor compulsion magic, but on a few conditions:

You can’t ask them to kill themselves.
They are still themselves when it comes to the request.
They still have free will as the spell works more to coax them into fulfilling your request than forcing them. They don’t have to comply through it might be emotionally painful to do so, like disappointing your best friend by saying no to a dangerous dare.
It has a wear off timer and has to be recasted when it runs out.

More specifically, of course, I want to know what's actually on the table for 400-year-old Matthew Stanford, who used to gorge himself on blood as a matter of course, but in the present day confines himself to donations once every two days. I'd assume any power upgrades are going to come with an increased appetite, but by how much? I can see him eventually scaling up to multiple feedings daily, with animal blood if he had to, if that's what it'd take for him to have more power on hand to tap XD.

The above abilities are a baseline and naturally gifted to vampires after turning, but we agreed that older ones would’ve gradually developed abilities outside their standard race’s baseline. Ranging into anything that a human could do. However, they still lose blood to pay the essence price for these spells. Each individual is unique in their development from their origins and might’ve brought some in from before they were turned.

We've talked before about the limits for Contempt, but to clarify: does a vampire who has given in entirely to their demonic nature still qualify for Contempt's effects by definition of having been once-human, or is there no longer anything human within them to call upon? Because I think I recall a mention that an elder vampire is practically a Hellion? And I take it the knife works on Solus XD?

After looking at your item, with Merlin, we made some clarifications while trying to keep the item’s base close to what you wanted. I think we did pretty well balancing with strengths and what we nerfed.

It’s going to be treated like super silver in a sense, which means it always damages its target. Including Hellion, Warden, or higher level Angels. However, that’s all it does with the higher level creatures. It doesn’t suppress their abilities because they were never human to begin with and it doesn’t fly trying to change them into what they never were, which I think was discussed in the main chat before. It still needs to bind to its user so Matthew is currently the only one that can use it and it will work for. Matthew’s abilities have been restored and he isn’t lowered to human level when he uses. One last effect, this item can suppress Grey Angels, Surface Demons, and unmorphed Chimeras (ones that aren’t fully formed like Solus) essence because they were once human. They are brought down to human level.

Regarding my still-in-planning angel character Taneli:

How exactly does the 'trapped in onyx' thing work?

Exactly as it sounds. An Angel is sentenced to become trapped in Onyx through a ritual, their whole being placed in suspended animation (their minds active, though it’s like thinking with an overly tired mind). The Children of Sathanus have something similar called the Bloodstone. Any Angel trapped within remains how they were when they were originally trapped, no matter how much time passes. This form of punishment is severe and held for all Angels that actively go against the Council, and refuses to heed their warnings about their actions. Their sentence can last from permanently to only a day for minor cases.

What secret could he have learned that would cause the Council to imprison him in order to keep the truth under wraps?

There is one secret that could lead in to a pretty great arc down the road and that’s the information about Black Winged Angels. They aren’t paying for past sin nor will the Whites or Greys risk becoming one of them, that’s a lie produced by the Council. In trying to uncover the truth, he could’ve been warned off by the Council then imprisoned for seeking/freeing Clairvoyants in exchange for additional information. They wouldn’t know what he learned so they imprisoned him to be safe, which he learned very little. We can work additional details when you get ready to finish him.

How does a normal angel ascend to Seraph level?

Seraphs are Angels with all their prior lifetimes unlocked making them second in power to Archangels.

Battle Angels: how does their power work? They can seal their own wounds, shut down pain signals with a thought, basically it's all manipulation of their own body in order to get through danger, correct?

Battle Angels focus on physical manipulation of their own bodies. The only thing they can’t do that is physical is literally shapeshift into another individual or too radically out of their original shape, mostly because it requires changing their biology completely and that is one limitation they can’t overcome. Angels will always be Angels. They can seal their wounds, shut down pain signals (thought they still suffer damage), manipulate their blood into acid, use their tendons like whips, create bone armor, etc. If you think you can do something with your anatomy and it feels plausible with science, example changing the PH of blood to make it more acidic, than you could likely get away with it in a Battle Angel. They also can increase their strength, speed or other attributes.

Can Tamer Angels control a vampire like Matthew? Or is it a case of whose will is stronger, or if magical backup of some kind is involved, or....?

Taming has to do with the personality and psyche of a demon, so yes one could.

There’s two ways to affect a Demon. First one is a short term, but uses lots of focus and essence to achieve. The second one is more long term, uses less essence and focus to achieve.

First Method: Compel.

Focusing on a Demon, a Tamer can send their essence through the air into it without detection. The Essence seeks out and reads through the memories, finding something to actually compel them to obey the Angel. This is usually based on the Demon’s personality and method that will work best. During the digging process, the creature can fight back against it. However the success is based on intelligence and will of target vs the Angel’s power and experience. For Players, this is a discussed matter and one they both have to agree on. Then both need need to inform the GM separately to avoid concerns.

Tamer needs to be aware of the demon and location in order to use this.
During this, the Tamer Angel is left open to attack from outside sources. To counter this, they work in teams with Battle Angels.
The range and duration varies based on the Angel’s power.

Second Method: Shock Collar.

After a Tame Angels traps a Demon, they insert their own Essence it while in the shard, which they use like a shock collar. While they can’t manipulate the outside essence, it’s still very painful to feel the essence within become hot, cold or in some way hurt them. Using this method, they can ‘tame’ the demon in order to follow their orders or behave a set way. Some Demon, like Wardens and Hellions, are much harder to control. Mostly because they can’t be caught with a normal shard but only a specially designed one or more advance device.

Longer term as the Demon still has free will and themselves, but the shock can literally cripple the Demon with just a cue from the Angel.
The range of influence on the Essence is based on the Angel’s power. Inexperienced or ill trained Tamers can lose control of their Demons should they get out of range.

Is there anything planned for the Illuminati? Because I think the King of Swords has a brother who probably might be one of their number. I haven't got any plans myself yet, just trying to set up possible interesting connections.

At this point, there’s no hard plans for them. That could change as the IC advances and things get going.

From Bartimaeus:

Limitations of Demon Regeneration

Demon Regeneration/Healing depends on the species. Some heal really heavy damage, but rather slow. Others heal rapidly but very little at a time. Some are just plain hard enough to damage, they don’t need it. With this ability, you need to figure out which type you want:

Fast healer, but low damage taker= These guys can rapidly heal shallow wounds in moments, but they can’t take wound after wound because it drains their Essence too fast. If they take enough damage, like regrowing a limb a few times, their healing ability will literally give out on them during a fight. One needs to carefully monitor their damage to ensure this doesn’t happen. (using bursts and large amounts of Essence, more drainage but faster)
High damage taker, but slow healer= These guys can take a lot of damage of various types, some even lethal as long they are able to remain alive. A snapped spine or severed arm can eventually be healed or regrown from, but it takes a long time like a month at least depending on the damage. This means any healing shouldn’t be counted on to prevent death, but after you survive and licking your wounds. (using low and steady amount of Essence, less drainage but slower)
No healer, but hard as hell to damage= Excessive tanks. Most have skin or some type of barrier that naturally prevents common damage. Some have been known to walk through fire, repel most magic, and even survive damage that otherwise would kill it. However, one thing to note… when you get past the shell, then any damage that happens heals at a human rate and might become permanent depending on the damage.

The reason I added the last section is because there are some Demons that lack either of the prior two, but still heal depending on the damage.

Each have their own strengths and weaknesses as you will note above.

From Naril:

1.) I understand Loom is a crime-filled city. To what degree does that effect everyday people? Are average people constantly afraid for their lives from random attack (mugging, carjacking, shootings, arson)?

Stockton, don’t be on the streets in a shitty neighborhood after dark.

2.) The same question but for magical assaults. Given that the magical world is, generally, secret, how much are supernaturals (or plain humans who have knowledge of the supernatural) preyed on by other supernatural creatures? Is going out after dark always an invitation for death or assault? Is it just around the full moon?

About 20%, and depends on the supernatural. All Demons need essence, so they had a variety of ways to get it that doesn’t always involve murder. Including looting freshly killed corpses, alchemy potions using plants, etc sold at the Goblin Market. Some just kill animals instead of humans for their Essence, as it comes from all living things. Usually when there’s a huge murder spree in short period, it’s player/plot related which will toss the supernatural world into a rumor mill with worry over what the aftermath means for them.

3.) How often do Creatures Of The Night go on murder sprees that have to be cleaned up or dealt with by [insert faction here]?

No more than once a month but it's more common for a single repeat offender to be a problem for extended periods of time with a decent gap between one issue to the next.

4.) Do other nations have similar bodies to the Bureau? Are their hiring practices less "join or die?"

Yes and Yes. Currently most lack detail.

4a.) Who cleans up the body, relatives, loved ones, pets, and unpaid bar tabs of people who choose "die?"

The PR branch of the Bureau

4b.) Are any of members of the Bureau themselves supernatural creatures?

Yes.

5.) If there are substances that restore Essence, where do they come from and who has access to them?

No, only rest, food and time. Use of Vessels or something like Solus chemical bath can also help.

6.) What other races are planned, if any? For example, chimerae.

Chimera. No other races at this time however we may consider player created ones.

7.) I am reasonably assured Essence and magic is about to be detailed, so I'm holding questions till later.

Look at pin within Discord Chat. ^-^ We will add a link to the OP soon.
<Snipped quote by Fallenreaper>

Time travel is far too complicated for me to do it justice in writing, so I'm interested purely in physical travel.

Cost being multiplied by distance would seem to be a simple way to prevent anything far too silly from occurring.

Character Concept: Sam, commonly known as the Planewalker (she claims to have had a much cooler name, until some bald guy stole her thunder with a series of awful movies about an unnamed transporter), is an independent contractor, plying her trade by offering the most discreet means of transportation possible...teleportation. She has few scruples regarding who her current client is, provided they follow a simple rule: "half now, half upon arrival at your destination". A big fan of her own work, Sam claims that she can get past any physical barriers or magical wards (but she is quick to mention that the greater the difficulty and haste required to complete a job, the more astronomical the price demanded for her services).

Summarized powers (sorry for the very quick notes format, but it is late and sleep beckons).

The edits make it easy to read and thank you. I need to talk with Syn, as some of these would need some serious thought and limits applied with the more powerful ones. However, I think it's possible at least some of them are doable without too much issue.
Scene 1, Minor Arc 1: Sheep’s Clothing

Location: Loom’s Slums, heading to Club Ambrosia
Time: 3 AM

What in the hell was she doing here?

Hazel Cairns, a freelance accountant for New Century Medical, asked herself. Most of her life consisted of paperwork, sitting in a pretty little office and number crunching all day. Not wandering around so damn early in morning, looking for a Club. Especially to add a little ‘risk’ to her life. Nervously she curled one of her cropped bangs behind her ear. For a moment it wrapped about, but she knew it wouldn’t stick. It rarely did. Her hand reached to tug down her skin tight, black dress to a more modest position on her thighs. Formal office attire were her normal after all so she even wondered if she was walking in it right. She dreaded when she didn’t have the overlapping trench coat to spare her embarrassment.

Trying to not think about how much skin was exposed, the woman turned her brown eyes down to the clutched and crumbled paper in her hand. The wrinkles broke along the written lines causing them to be hard to read. She bit her lip, hesitation sliced through her confidence. Like a knife through butter.

She thought visiting Club Ambrosia might’ve been a good idea, but now she questioned her sanity. Was this risk really worth the anxiety? It was too late to turn back as she followed the street names carefully. Occasionally her eyes thought she caught sight of something shifting quietly in the shadows, the crevices holding hidden dangers. Like a living thing mocking her. Hazel swallowed her fear and pressed on. She increased her pace slightly, driven by slight discomfort, as her heel stomped into the nearest puddle. Water splashed back across her calf with a fresh chill. The rain continued to pour around her while clouds silently menaced down upon her.

When she reached another pale, illuminating lamp, she looked at her instructions again. Something wasn’t right. Hazel squinted at the poorly lite sign then frowned. Instinctively her figure turned about, and tried to retrace her steps back.

“SOMEONE HELP ME, PLEASE!”

A scream broke through the air. From the alley’s other side, a bloodied and panicked woman bolted into view. Hazel’s head jerked backwards to see the blonde stumble. Her front was covered in red, blood leaking from a wound along her neck. What remained of a blouse and slack were shredded and barely hung on her. Upon spotting Hazel, the woman managed to shout out again.

“Please, please. Help me.”

The last of her energy collected, the blonde rushed forward. Again, she crumbled just a foot from Hazel’s position and panted loudly. Her skin was pale and trembling while she held herself, the air’s chill not helping. Cautiously Hazel bent down to examine the woman. At her touch, the woman flinched then jerked. Hazel frowned, wondering if she had stumbled upon some sexually assaulted victim. Her mind recalled the recent newspaper articles where women had been mysteriously gone missing for a few days then turned up randomly. Shortly after, they fell into a coma without any medical reason causing companies like New Century Medical to spend notable amounts in finding out why.

Unable to leave the woman, Hazel kneed down to eye level, “Hey, hey. What happened?”

“I don’t… don’t know,” the woman sniffled, her arms clenched tightly about her.

Hazel was sure she wasn’t going to get anything else out of her as she pulled off her coat, then gently wrapped it about the woman. Slowly she managed to get the blond to stand on her feet. With her other hand, Hazel pulled out her cellphone. She pressed 911 with her thumb only to hear the blaring rejection of having no signal. Biting her lower lip, she snapped it back shut then pocketed it. She adjusted the blonde against her shoulder before edging toward the exit.

“We’ll get you somewhere safe-”

A deep, guttural growl echoed behind them. Both women stopped in their tracks, paralyzed by fear of the unknown. Cautiously Hazel turned her head over her shoulder to glimpse a large, biped shadow snarling from the shadows. The blonde whimpers then leaned her head into Hazel’s shoulder.

“Please, god please protect me. It found me…”

Location: Holly’s Apartment

Time: 3 AM

The man… or whatever he was, grinned at her. His lips curled nearly beyond his face’s limits causing her stomach to curdle. Each little tooth neatly and all too perfectly fits into place. His head tilted to the side at an odd angle as he seemed rather pleased to see her. Long arms hung unnaturally past the knees with even longer fingers narrowed into wicked claws. The pale light from Loom’s active city life slipped in through the window, shedding faint highlights across his black skin.

“My, you smell…delicious,” he…it whispered.

What unnerved Holly most was the fact he got in here undetected, not even using the door. Her eyes shifted to the left recalling where she kept her gun and coat. As if reading her intentions, the man’s grin vanished.

“Now, that’s not very nice.”

Without a second thought, Holly bolted for her gun. Her arm reached for the holster just when four long fingers wrapped around her wrist. She felt it jerked back causing her to inwardly winch from the force. The grin returned as his arm whipped backward, sending her flying across the room. Holly screamed when her back smacked into sofa’s back causing it to flip over.

Scene 2, Minor Arc 1: Sheep’s Clothing

Location: Loom’s Slums, Alleyway to Club Ambrosia

Time: 4-6 AM

Hazel’s milky eyes stared at the far wall. Her head was bent at an angle and leaned against her shoulder, exposed by the lack of her trench coat. All color seemed to have drained from her skin giving it a grey undertone to it. Flies buzzed and crawled along her curves as they tasted her corpse. Blood clotted near the side of her dress, centered on the four jagged wounds across her side. The flesh was pushed aside to reveal pieces of organs had been torn free as more white, wiggling worms were scattered across the surface.
Hello!

I'm new (but not to RPing).

If there's still space I'd like to propose writing a character focusing on the magical domain of travel.

Yes there is still space, and pitch your idea's concept. Mostly because travel can range from time travel (which is off the table) to actual physical travel. As with any huge magic, the greater the distance the more power and Essence from the user or other sources is required to perform.

“What do you mean she’s gone”! Shouted Alasdair. He had only just returned from the Grand Temple to find out that Pearl Mazeltof had somehow escaped from the keep’s Dungeon. He has currently standing in the council chamber glaring at a sheepish Alenius who was averting her gaze. While it was not even vaguely her fault she still somehow felt responsible. Afterall she had been appointed to oversee the security of the keep and one of the most important prisoners had somehow just walked straight out the gate.

“My deepest apologies my lord but Pearl Mazeltof has somehow escaped from Dungeon”. Alasdair covered his face with his hands, he was in complete disbelief.

“How? How could this even of happened”? As he took his hands away he saw Alenius’s face turn to unease; he wasn’t going to like what she was about to say

“It would appear that enemy agents, likely those of House Mazeltof, entered the Keep during the riot. Probably wearing disguises so as to hide their true identity. Our guards found Pearls cell empty and the prison guards killed. It wasn’t until after the riot that we realised that she had escaped. Now she could be anywhere in the city”. Alasdair’s face lit up at the last bit of information

“In the city? Wouldn’t it be more likely that she is somewhere in the countryside by now”?

“Fortunately your grace the steel fist had all the city gates blocked during the riot. That the number of rioters plaguing the streets at the time would have made it near impossible to escape. I believe they are still hiding somewhere in the city, waiting for their opportunity to strike”. This was excellent news, there was still a chance to recapture his prisoner. He had to; Pearl Mazeltof was a valuable hostage and with her as his prisoner he could manipulate the people of Ralda to be more cooperative with their new king.

“In which case tripple of the guards at each of the exits and have them check everyone who tries to leave. In the meantime have the city watch on the lookout for Pearl Mazeltof or anyone acting suspicious”. With this Alenius bowed

“At once you grace, but would it not be safer to complete lock down the gates until Pearl is found”.

“I cannot suddenly halt the entire movement and trade of a city at such a fragile time” Alasdair said “Besides if I did that I everyone would demand answers and if they discovered that Pearl had escaped from our very own dungeons we would be humiliated. And if Ralda ever found out we no longer have a hostage...lets just say the riot’s that happened here in Nyhem will be tame by comparison”.

~~~~~~~~
Kiseo’s lith figure cautiously strolled through the once proud streets of Nyhem. Her cloak’s hood was snapped up and over her face, hiding it from sight. Her golden eyes continually alert as they scanned the morning crowds as she held a note to the king about Dyril’s situation. Mostly indicating the half-elf was still alive despite the unsavory encounter with a few rioters.
Evidence of the horrid events surrounded her. Many buildings, yesterday’s prosperous businesses or homes, were charred husks of their former selves. The streets were bustling with the working class seeking to salvage what they could from the remains.
*
Aulus was making his way through the streets of Nyhem, pushing through the soot covered scavengers as he drank from a bottle of rum he had looted during the riot. He wasn’t sure what was more surprising; the fact that Alicja Mazeltof had been in front of him for so long or the fact that she actually succeeded in rescuing her sister. Shortly after his first meeting with Ramfrey, Aulus had returned to the Inn to receive his payment. When he arrived it was not Ramfrey, but Alicja he met. They had only met once before, when Daeron invited Henry Mazeltof and his children for a feast in Coruneon. It was clear that Aulus had made something of an impression on her, as despite his new rugged and shambolic appearance she still recognised him. Through a bit of convincing Alicja was able to persuade Aulus to help her rescue Pearl, a futile effort in Aulus’s mind, but he had nothing better to do. When the riot started Aulus was able to steal armour from the city watch’s barracks giving Alicja her way into the castle. Aulus had to confess, when he watched Alicja, Ramfrey and Christain walk into the keep he was certain they were not coming back. Though against all odds they somehow got in, recused Pearl and escaped without being caught. Maybe the guards were simply distracted by the rioters, or maybe the De Reimer’s guards weren’t as competent as they would like everyone to believe.
Aulus had been tasked by Ramfrey to find Dyril and tell her what happened. Though now he had the unfortunate task of informing Ramfrey that it wouldn’t be possible. He had just learnt that Dyril was currently in the middle of the steel fist’s camp and was guarded by hundreds of mercenaries. Even if he was sober the chances of him reaching her were impossible. As Aulus continued to walk through the crowd he drunkenly bumped into a passersby.
“Sorry...sir...mam...person” he said as he drunkenly stumbled to the side, trying to regain his balance. As Aulus looked to see who he had bumped into he seemingly sobered up in shock. Though hooded, the face he was looking at was that of a cat. “How strong is this stuff”? Aulus stammered as he looked down at the bottle in his hand before rather rudely moving his face closer to that of the feline like creature, wondering whether what he was seeing was real.
Kiseo jerked when she was shoved forward. Her fur stood on end and her tail curled about her calf, quickly hidden under the swaying folds of her cloak. In one smooth, graceful moment, she turned on heel to face the culprit responsible. The hood was casted off in her hurry. It revealed the mixture of feline and human features in her face, her ears raised back slight and narrow eyes widened in fear. Her lips had curled into a barely audible warning hiss.
It took a moment before she relaxed. Her hearing caught the slurring lisp in the man’s words, his confusion confirming her overreaction. Already she could feel eyes burning into her back, namely from the guards warily debating to interfere in the abrupt scene.
Not liking the attention, Kiseo’s skin flushed slightly red. She noticed she dropped Dyril’s message to the King causing her to drop down, mumbling an apology, before she turned to take off toward Alasdair’s residence. Her right hand flipped her cloak’s hood back over her head.
Aulus was a bit taken aback when the cat faced woman hissed at him, however his attention soon shifted to the note she dropped. Despite his drunken state Aulus, saw that the letter that the feline woman had picked up was addressed to Dyril. In hindsight it made sense; Maerya had told Aulus how the Imperium kept many strange species as slaves.
“Hey”, he shouted as he staggered after her “wait up, I just want to talk to you, um...meow, purr, hiss?” he jokinging said as he tried to catch up with her.
Kiseo’s tail bristled at the statement. Her head twisted back and briefly glared at the man, finding his behavior grating on her nerves again. While she was feline in nature, her behavior was anything but animalistic and personally found the comparison painful.
“Speaking of common, I can. Not good. What you want of me?” Kiseo shot back as she continued to try to avoid the drunken man. She didn’t want or need additional attention since it wouldn’t help her avoid trouble.
“I have been sent to tell your master that our mutual friend has succeeded in rescuing their sister” Aulus whispered as he tried to guide her towards the nearest alley, making sure they weren’t overheard “However, we are having a bit of trouble getting out the city and need help” after finishing Aulus realised that Dyril might not actually of told her servant anything, for all he knew this message might mean nothing to her.
As they ducked into a nearby alley, Kiseo turned on her heel to face the man. Her eyes narrowed in indecision before she cross her arms over her front. She seemed inwardly debating on to trust the man’s words or not before she inhaled, then shot off her own inquries.
“Help? What way? Aljica send no word the plan happen yesterday.”
Aulus shrugged before responding “I don’t know what to tell you, I only joined up recently. From what I gather, Ramfrey decided the riot would be the best opportunity to break out Pearl from the keep. It appears he was right, but now that the De Reimers know about our little break out, they have increased security at the entrances, making it impossible to escape. We were hoping that maybe Dyril could use her contentions to organise some kind of distraction”.
“I do not understand how. We need a meeting to fix it, but Inn burned down.” Kiseo groan at the impatience her master’s sister allies had shown and the mess it had created. “I must talk with Dyril and think of a place to meet, sort this out… This is risky.”
“No doubts to that” Aulus said with a smile “Tell your master to meet down ‘weaver’ lane’ in the Slums, it will be safe to met there; the guards don’t even bother patrolling it given how dangerous it is” Aulus paused, realising the irony in what he just said “so… don’t bring anything valuable, and keep yourself hidden, and don’t make eye contact with anyone. I’m sure you’ll be fine...probably”.
Kiseo’s lips pressed together. Annoyance slipped over her expression as she narrowed her eyes, inwardly debated on his intentions for Dyril. The bad part, she wasn’t yet familiar enough with the city to know exactly where ‘weaver lane’ was or even the slums. She doubted it was difficult to find through. The higher class residents often kept their section of the town cleaner and less infested by homeless, filth in their eyes. With the recent fires might’ve altered that situation through, the Mao thought.
“Will try to find it. Not familiar with city enough. Time?” Kiseo asked to ensure they wouldn’t be waiting for hours on end.
“Let’s say early evening, when the sun is about to set over the city walls, less chance of being seen yet easy to blend in with the city folk going home. See you there kitty kat” Aulus finished with a smirk and a casual wave before quickly making his way out of the alley and back to Alicja.
If it wasn’t for the fact Kiseo feared retribution, she might’ve actually considered scratching out Aulus’ eyes and knocking him on his ass. Her eyes narrowed at his retreating back before she decided to wrap up her morning tasks.
~|Evening|~
Weaver’s lane was filled with the slum folk of Nyhem returning back to their shacks with whatever merger sum of money they had been able to scrounge that day. While most were just heading home to rest, a large number of people were going to the slum’s tavern, ‘The blue soup’, to drink away their days earnings. It was the only place in the slum that had any form of life. Just as Aulus had promised them, no guards were present in the lane. In fact it almost seemed that the entire slums had been abandoned by the Law. Alicja was wearing a hooded cloak to cover herself, as was Ramfrey. Alicja had spent the day tending to the wounds Pearl had endured while in prison. The fact that Pearl’s cell was better than most other prisoners spoke volumes for the brutality of Nyhem’s dungeons. She had asked Christain to look after her while she and Ramfrey met with Dyril. Originally Aulus was supposed to have joined them, however he had been so intoxicated when they left both Alicja and Ramfrey agreed it was better than he remained behind. After discovering that the Inn had been burnt down during the riot they had decided to take up refuge in an abandoned slum building that Aulus had found; though the building was run down and decrepit, it provided them with necessary shelter from both the elements, and the city watch. Though they had only been waiting for a short amount of time Alicja was getting restless; she wanted to get back and look after Pearl, Ramfrey took notice.
“Don’t worry my lady” he mumbled to her “I’m sure they will be here soon”
Right on cue, a dark cloaked figure erupted from the shadows nearby. Her feminine shape was hidden underneath the billowing folds and subtle movements, the fabric aged by outside elements. When out of sight of prying eyes, hands casually pulled away the hood to reveal a familiar face: Dyril’s. Her narrow eyes shifted from Alicja to Ramfrey. The later received a suspicious glance before her head turned to glance over her shoulder, spying Kiseo follow closely behind her.
However, the Mao didn’t remove her covering. Her golden eyes merely caught then reflected the light back, giving an eerie, watchful glow within her hood.
“Kiseo, watch for any prying eyes,” Dyril asked.
“Yes Mistress,” the Mao replied.
She bowed before she pulled back, twisting to face the way they came. Her ears, on the other hand, were twitching to catch the whole conversation. It hard to trust anyone with the circumstances.
“Now, Alicja, will you please explain the situation? I don’t understand why you risked yours and our sister’s life with such a foolish act during the riots.”
Dyril’s words held slight accurations, through she tried to temper it.
“I wish there was another way but we didn’t have much choice. The riot provided the best chance to rescue Pearl and there was no way another opportunity would arise anytime soon, if ever. I assure you I wouldn’t have done it if wasn’t absolutely certain there was no other way” Alicja said. Though she sounded regretful the truth was she felt no remorse; after seeing what had been done to Pearl her only regret was that she hadn’t rescued her sooner. “But right now we need to focus on escaping the city, before long the city watch will be searching everywhere for us and not even the slums will be safe”.
That’s the real mess, Dyril thought but held her tongue. She was finding it difficult to see the family resemblance beyond the physical traits. It was difficult to believe, with recent actions, that Alicja wouldn’t just leave Dyril and Kiseo to face the King’s wrath in favor for freedom. Irritation washed over the hybrid at the disturbing similarities between her family and this woman. Even a little pain at the lacking faith in her mingled into the mix.
“Yes, especially a plan that won’t leave us facing the King’s wrath while you escape,” Dyril’s words become an intended bard at her half sister.
Kiseo’s ears flicked at her master’s words causing her golden eyes to shift, her expression drifted between pain and sympathy toward her master. Dyril ignored it.
“Do you have idea for a plan? Route? Guards patrol locations? Where the gate locks are and how they operate?” She asked, trying to see what they had in mind already before adding to it.
Alicja was shocked at Dyril’s attitude. Did Dyril really think so little of her that she thought she would abandon her “I would never demand that you put yourself in harms way. I simply request that you help carry Pearl through the gate, she is still too weak to walk. Aulus informs us that all three of Nyhem’s gates are now heavily guarded, along with the docks. However there is a exit where the eastern wall meets the river, most people don’t even know it exists. There are only a couple of guards ever present and it seems that the city watch have forgotten to enforce it. I plan to act as a diversion so that you may escape the city”. At this Ramfrey suddenly looked around to Alicja with confusion, it was clear Alicja hadn’t told him about this.
“You can’t be serious milady. You are too important to risk yourself like this, allow me this task” Ramfrey protested. Alicja gave him a sad smile; she knew he was going to react like this.
“I cannot, you will be Pearl’s and Christain’s only protection outside Nyhem, you have served as my guardian faithfully and for that I am grateful. Now I must ask that you do the same for my sister” Alicja looked towards Dyril “and I cannot ask you or Christain to risk your lives for me, it was my decision to carry out this plan and I must be responsible for the consequences”.
“I swore to protect you milady, I cannot let you do this. I mean...you could always send Aulus…” Ramfrey mumbled, to which Alicja threw him a disapproving look.
“As Aggravating as he may be without him we would never of gotten this far, as much as I hate to admit it we are in his debt”. With this Alicja looked straight at Dyril.
“I understand the danger I am putting you in and I what I ask of you isn’t fair. So I want you to know you are free to decide not to help us, I will think no less of you if you do”.
Dyril waited until the two bickered their differences out. She was already distrustful of the two after Alicja’s stunt, despite the confusion over the hybrid’s behavior. Personally any trust between had been severely damaged at this stage, but it didn’t mean she wanted to see her half sister dead or worse. Seeming to sense her master’s agitation at the situation, Kiseo stepped in to ease it.
“Help I can. I distract and lead them away, give time to you. I not catch easy,” Kiseo stated in her broken common a bit too quickly.
Dyril looked briefly shocked by the offer, even more so seeing the Mao speak out forwardly and offer herself to the plan without consulting with her master. It caused the hybrid’s lips to subtly tighten in worry. Through the only one to notice it was Kiseo, who fought not to visibly flinch, as she stood to hear other’s comments.
Alicja was taken aback by Kiseo’s comment, she never thought the she would volunteer for such a dangerous task.
“I thank you Kiseo, but like I said I can’t risk your life for this. Besides this is my…”
“With all due respect milady” Ramfrey interrupted, “She is best suited for this task. I doubt the guardsmen would be able to keep up with her. Furthermore there is no moon tonight which means they won’t even be able to see her, given her the perfect opportunity to escape into the city”.
“But if they catch her they’ll know that Dyril…” Alicja started to protest
“If they catch any of us they will find out eventually” The torturers in Nyhem’s dungeons always got a confession out of you, no matter how strong a person you were. Though he wasn’t going to mention this,“If you want to keep Dyril safe, Kiseo is our best chance.”
Alicja paused as she thought over this.“Very well, if both Kiseo and Dyril are willing.”
Then as Ramfrey said, “This is our best chance”.
’Well, of course I’m not willing,’ Dyril spit eternally at the statement. In fact, she was personally enraged by Kiseo’s willingness to toss her life away and not consider the aftermath for her. Still the hybrid managed to keep her tongue from voicing it into the atmosphere already thick in tension and agitation.
Kiseo held back her annoyance with the situation. She already gave her approval and accepted the task, what more did these Formaroth natives need to verify that? The Mao inhaled then looked to Dyril, pleading silently for her to understand.
Feeling Kiseo’s eyes rest onto her, the half elf exhaled subtly through her nostrils. She didn’t have much choice because some bit of her accept Ramfrey’s words to be truth.
“Fine, Kiseo. If you get caught, I will not knowledge your intentions. Do you understand?”
“Mistress, yes,” Kiseo answered, forgetting she was suppose to speak in Formaroth while here. She immediately realized her mistake and quickly corrected, hoping to avoid punishment.
“Mistress, yes.”
“Better. I expect you home before morning to help me get ready,” Dyril’s tone became harsh as she turned to Alicja, her expression indifferent. For her next words, it was a challenge to hold back the strain in her voice caused by the anger she was feeling building in her,“Is there anything else I need to be aware of?”
“Nothing that I can think of” Alicja replied “I will meet you here at midnight and Aulus will guide us to the entrance” Just before Alicja turning away she glanced back before adding “Thank you again for this...sister” Alicja hesitated at the end, unsure if Dyril would appreciate her calling her as such, given her current temperament.
“You won’t be meeting me here, Kiseo will. The less I know about it, the easier it would be to simply pretend I know nothing and safer for all of us,” Dyril stated then added in a slightly softer tone. There was still traces of pain associated with it through she tried to hide them.
“Just don’t get caught and take care of yourself. I don’t want news that the King wiped out the last of our family…” With that said, Dryil signaled for Kiseo to follow her as they headed back to camp.
*
Once again Alicja had returned to weaver’s lane. This time however she had more than just Ramfrey accompanying her. Aulus had finally sobered up and was helping Christain support Pearl; while she had been slowly recovering, she still wasn’t strong enough to move on her own. Fortunately most of the people roaming the streets at this time were drunks stumbling home after a night of drinking and would mistake Pearl simply as another drunkard whose friends were helping home. They had been waiting for a little while yet there was still no sign of Kiseo.
Kiseo continually navigated through the city. Her eyes reflected the dim light giving them an eerie glow in the shadows, betraying her steady approach. Cautiously she tiptoed into weaver’s lane being obviously late. She found the alleys, streets and small paths still confusing until she finally found the right landmarks. The mao caught dark, shadows stood
Carefully, Kiseo navigated streets and once more found her way into weaver’s lane. She swore she made several wrong turns before she finally found the right landmarks. After a while, her eyes caught the grey shades of two individuals standing in the darkness as they anxiously waited.
“Sorry, late I am. Lost around streets.” Kiseo rapidly explained in common.
“No worries Kiseo, I’m just glad you're here” Alicja said as she signaled to the others, who slowly made their way towards them, making sure they didn’t walk too fast for Pearl.
“Didn’t know if you would actually come,” Aulus said as nodded to Ramfrey, gesturing to him to take over supporting Pearl for him. Once he had Aulus walked to the front of the group
“Right we need to hurry, more time we wait the higher the chance we will be caught. Follow me”
*
As they approached the edge of the city it was clear why most people didn’t know about this supposed secret entrance; the exit was little more than a small wooden door in the side of the cities walls. Two guards were on watch as Aulus predicted, though neither of them seemed a particular threat; both only armed with leather armour and basic spears. One of them was flipping a coin in the air and catching it in his hand, while the other was picking up pebbles from the pavement and throwing them into the river. It was clear it wasn’t a very exciting posting.
“You’re up kitty” Aulus said, although he sounded cheerful as he usually did, a hint of nervousness could be heard in his voice.
“Thank you for this Kiseo” Alicja said “When you return to Dyril, tell her I hope we meet again, hopefully under better circumstances” Alicja paused for a moment before adding “and tell her i’m sorry” Alicja knew Dyril had come her seeking her family, and yet all Alicja had done had put her in harm’s way. Now she was leaving her, with no idea whether she would even see her half sister again. “Are you ready”?
Kiseo hissed at Aulus’ nickname for her. Her fur bristled a moment before it settled back down, her attention shifted to Alicja.
“Yes. I forgot. This for you and Pearl. Apply once week,” Kiseo said as she twisted about.
Her claws rummaged through her hip pouch then pulled free a small salve tin, showing it to Alicja. It was infused with mandrake and restoration magic within the tallow substance. Applied weekly, it would heal nearly any scar or serious damage to wounds. Through Dyril still felt hurt, Kiseo knew her mistress would hate to see her half-sisters killed in their journey.
After Alicja took the gift, the feline humanoid bent down and snatched up a few discarded stones. A hand reached up to ensure her cloak hood would stay as she looked to the others. Already they had found their own crevices to hid in, their figures gone from sight like determined in the plan. She wound her arm back then chucked the first stone at the guard flipping the coin.
It smacked off the side of the door supporting him causing the man to jerk. His eyes turned to her figure in the dim firelight and his lips frowned. Kiseo didn’t wait very long. The next stone hit on his torso causing him to clutch his arm, anger twisted upon his expression and teeth gritted in a decision. He sntached the torch off the wall. Then his foot took a threatening step toward her.
Another rock was whipped out, this time catching him on the head causing him to step back. It seemed she pissed him off enough to decide he was going to arrest her now as he growled in frustration. Taking the hint, Kiseo bolted into the alleyway. The guard gave chase with his companion closely behind.
Her eyes lite her way through the darkness. She darted over the hidden crates, pull into hidden turns and ensured they weren’t too far behind her at all times.
After about three turns, she found herself facing a dead end. Her eyes widened in panic at her mistake. Quickly the Mao turned about to escape, but already her pursuers were closing in. They would be here in moments. Mumbling a curse under her breath, Kiseo turned to her only escape route: up.
She stepped to one end of the alleyway walls and inhaled. Bracing herself, she kicked off toward the opposite one. Her right foot found purchase as she tilted her body forward and began to run upwards. Each step of the way, her claws found niches to propel her higher. Her hand snapped onto the edge of the wall just when torch light appeared underneath her. Kiseo paused long enough to watch them scan the area, unable to find a trace of her, before giving up. They headed slowly back to their posts.
Breathing hard, Kiseo quickly vanished over the other side. When she hit the ground, she made her way back to Dyril. With her little distraction aid, the others should’ve managed to enter the door and escaped outside the walls. At least she hoped they did.
Only time would tell if they ever meet again.
Vaega can draw power and create from his shadow's essence, this is the art developed and practiced intensely by his ancestors. The art of Shadow Craft allows the individual to be independent, creative, and above all, holy. A true master of this art is considered an, Ethereal. The Ethereal Mysar are holy in the sense that they are one with both their light and their shadow essence. Restriction: Mental/Physical Exhaustion
While you gave more details, not enough for me to get a clear picture of what this ability does. For example, you stated he can draw power and create from his shadow's essence, but that just makes more questions.
-Does he create life? I will note creating life is a big thing and I don’t think I would approve it without a long, detailed ritual. Which for combat, is not advised and considering the limitations in control… not likely best.
-Is it a form of construct magic that uses his shadow as a base?
If so:
-What can it make and not make? Can it make simple things like walls or weapons, like spears or armor? Or are there more complicated things it can make things like guns, living golems, etc? What things can it just not achieve on its own?
-How solid are these things?
-Are they solid to the touch or more shadow like?
-Does he change in this form? I mean his physical being, is it more like a shadow or still solid?
-What does this do to his host as a long term thing or does it do nothing at all?
-If he is, is he more affected by magic in this form?
Mental/Physical Exhaustion
-How much does this affect him after he uses it? Does it put him into a coma for a few hours, does he just crumble unable to think or defend himself?
-How long does it last before these effects kick in? Keep in mind, most conflicts happen for anywhere between a few seconds to under half an hour depending on the type. A minute would easily keep him safe and give you several posts (most which I guess to be about 6 seconds on average in a fight scene, give or take depending on the scene and intentions of it) for a combative scene. This is actually something I forget often myself when I was first getting into pbp roleplaying, but remembering it helps and gives me a base for how long I want an ability to last without trapping myself in a crappy situation. It can also alter over the course of the rp, with milestones in the IC and conversation with the GMs.
Telekinesis: Vaega may expand his mental consciousness and focus it toward an object, giving him the ability to control it. There are limits to how much and what he can lift, and how long. Restriction:Mental/Physical Exhaustion Limitations, Medium Proximity, Weight.
-How much weight at max? There’s got to be a limit over all. Can he lift a car with it or anything lighter than a draft horse? Can he lift a 200 pound prized bull or only as little as a poodle? Be specific, please, it helps me know what he can lift and allows me to detail this in posts for hints toward things he can interact with without literally telling it OC or auto fail your attempts, disrupting flow of the scene. If I feel it’s too much, I will likely ask for it to be tailored back a bit then suggest a range.
-How far exactly? Medium proximity isn’t much to go on considering I can imagine medium proxity being the size of a football field compared to whale length being farthest or mediuming being say 16 m compared to a olympic pool size (50 m total). Think in distance for his limits. How far can his ‘mind’ reach?
Transmutation: Vaega can create objects out of necessary materials that are equivalent to the desired creation’s specifications. This can only be utilized if the materials are available, and if there is sufficient time to generate the object. Restriction: Charge, Situation Dependent
-Is this limited to any item or what? This is complicated because I feel his essence couldn’t affect any magical items. So I’m going to go ahead and judge this magic only works on normal, everyday items. I might suggest you give examples how he uses it, like does he turn lead into gold? Does he shape a pin into a needle or what.
-How does mass affect this? I’m also going to ask you to consider mass/weight in this spell because I rather you didn’t turn say a needle into a car. I would suggest that you when turn an item (or things) into another thing, they have to be of pretty close mass/weight for balancing purposes. This makes it doable but also more challenging so he’s literally not changing something like Loom’s land into a sea.
-How much time does it take? Hours, minutes, or what? Specific time helps a lot. I might suggest you have the larger the object, the more time it takes it. Something like a car, if you can get that much weight/mass in one place, takes nearly an hour or two to fully complete. Feel free to rephrase this into your CS, even elaborate based on what I told you.
-Can he still multi-task while doing this or does it leave him helpless? Is it used in combat, or best outside of it? Not all abilities need to be combative able, Holly herself has most of her ‘magic/abilities’ non combative but still able to be used in the rp. Considering this and determine if it would be best as a combative or none for your purposes.
Invisibility: Bael can dissolve Vaega’s presence when he desires to, but can only do so for a few minutes. Eventually, because of Bael's limitations within the metaphysical plane of existence and sharing a body versus gaining complete control over it, he will need to give up his focus or he runs the risk of disrupting his connection with Vaega. Restriction: Short Duration, Charge.
-When he moves, does it cause a wrap in light like Predator does? See Youtube vid below if you don't know Predator for example.
-How short of a duration? Recall what I said about combat lasting short periods of time usually, and use that to determine the best duration time.
-How long or number of posts for it to charge? Again, specifics.
One Organism, Two Spirits: Now that Bael’s spirit inhabits Vaega’s body, his reflexes, strength, speed, visual acuity, and overall control of the independent muscles in his body have increased dramatically. Disadvantage: Psychological; one organism has a difficult time holding two spirits, unless they can harmonize.
-How much have they increased? Human x1.5, x2, x10, or what? If you’re not fully sure the exact number, give examples of exactly how much he can lift, how fast he can run, how fast is his reflexes, etc. Do some research over various speeds of things you think he might as fast, strong, etc over then use them as a base for numbers.
-Psychological: I don’t really honestly understand this one. Are you telling me that the two are completing for the body’s control, and if so… what happens? How does it become a disadvantage?
The main issues I have with your abilities is that you’re not being specific, rather you’re just adding more vague things on top of already vague descriptions. It leaves me with more questions than answers. I don’t know if you’re worried the GMs will mess with your limits enough to screw you over in the IC, because that’s not our intention. Our aims isn’t to kill your Character when we approach these limits. It’s more to force your character to depend on others or seek out others when they otherwise might not or prevent them from affecting key plot stuff if we need to. First I want to see your ideal max limits, see your own specific ideas for limits for these things, before making any changes if I need to.
Notable Belongings:
Mysar Jeweled Onyx Necklace - “Gate Key” (1 of 9): The Gate Key or Gate Key(s) are jeweled and stoned pieces, each imbued with various essences of the original Mysar. It is said to be the Key to the Gate of all Mysar knowledge, it is also said to protect those who wear for they are reinforced by all essences of the Mysar.
I suggest you insert the explanation for this from the chat into your CS. Mostly so we can locate it easier and most the important information is in one area.
@Virani I assume her abilities are human, olympic level? Aka, peak for her. If so, accepted on my end. Syn still needs to check it over, but you’re halfway there.
Glamour: Glamour is the ability of the Fae to make one thing seem like another. These things do not only look another way, in a crude way they almost are. A Fae like Redwood that hides behind glamour does not only seem smaller, he is.
-Does this work on everything, or just non-living things?
-Does he have to focus to retain it or cast once, then it wears off over time?
-How long can he do that?
-Does Iron negate it?
Contracts: The Fae cannot create. This is an ability withheld for beings of divine heritage. Fae can only change things, their power comes from words and stories. This is most obvious with their ability to use contracts. A Fae use ancient contracts made with the natural by long gone Fae to make nature do their bidding. A Hedge could be asked to grow into terrible form or the ground to open up and shallow someone.
-First sentence confused me, do you mean they can’t create things? I ask this because creating and establishing contracts is obviously creating something. :P
-How does a contract work?
-How is done?
-What is needed for it?
-Is it a ritual or simple handshake?
-Do both parties need to be in agreement?
-What creatures do these extend to? Just plants and animals, or does it extend to humans, Angels and other Demons as well?
-If it’s just explaining how he can control nature, are there limits based on the contracts of old? What are some of the things he can’t ask of the ‘Hedge’ to do? More clarity with this ability would be helpful for me to understand it.
-What happens when a contract is broken?
Pledges: Like in the Fairytales of old a Fae can use language and words as their weapons. Accepting a deal with a Fae is binding by their strange laws.
Alright, this description can be read in various ways. Either his words actually can hurt someone (like him learning and using your name to cause pain) or he can use his words similar to Skyrim’s words of power, which means casting various types of spells. See youtube video below for one example if you’re not familiar with the reference. (I’ve so wanted to do that to Lydia a few times… trust me when I said it was hard not to.)
Could you go into a bit more detail? This would help me limit down the questions I will ask next in my second review.
"Redtree, Redtree
By your name he will bind you
Redtree, Redtree
in his world none will find you"
Should likely finish this before I can accept this. :P
History:
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m curious about her history. Namely her childhood, who made her, and why Maddy was chosen out of any possible choices. If you rather not reveal that publically, a small summary in a pm to the GMs would be nice. Mostly so we can possibly develop a NPC from her creator or other possibilities. Creating life is hard and takes a lot to do so. This means we also need to account for how he did it and make sure it doesn’t ruin the Lore established for Essence, which I can think of a few ways that wouldn’t hurt your story at all.
- You're A Wizard, Zee: Zafira has an intimate connection with the currents and movements of magic through the worlds, a result of being conjured from raw magic by Maddy's prophetic destiny. Her command over that power extends largely into the realms of channeling power for defensive magic (shields and wards) along with lightning-flavored evocations. With time and effort, she's also capable of making various enchanted gewgaws, but that process is very time and labor intensive. Though she is considerably skilled in the Art, the more power Zee channels into any particular working, the more physically and mentally taxing it is on her. She is entirely capable of blacking out from this exertion.
-I’ve never seen the word gewgaws until now. I had to look it up… it’s good, lol.
-So would continually tossing magic exhaust her? I understand she’s a powerful mage from this ability, but I’m also trying to see what type of fighter she is and what might bring her limits close to surfacing.
-What happens when she starts to reach her limits? Does she get weak and wobbly or does the blackout start?
-How much power could her shields hold up against? Even a guess would be helpful
-With the lightning evocations, I assume she just shoots lightning from her palm or does it take on other forms, yet still classed like lightning? Like example… can she taser someone without killing them? Can she use impure water to shock someone? Can she produce enough lightning to recharge say a car battery? Can she control where it goes or does it just shoot straight?
- Hard to Kill: She isn't stronger than a run of the mill human, and she isn't faster, but Zee is absolutely tougher than it seems like she ought to be. Not that she'll be shrugging off broken bones and bullet wounds, but the machinery of her body is harder to damage than even an exceptional human. She also heals from injuries more quickly, and more completely, than her neighbors, but that's cold comfort when she's still waiting for a broken arm to knit back together.
-Define how much faster than a human? Is is like x1.5, x2, x5 or x10, or could you use examples like it could take her a week, half a month or three weeks to heal a broken bone while it would take an average human a whole month or more to heal the same bone. Also, how more durable? I imagine she can’t literally take a car at full speed to the gut, but can she be sent through a brick wall and merely just have bruised or sprain wrist/ankle? Some examples of past injuries and their effects might help me understand her limits with this so I can give your Character some challenges without nearly killing her.
- Someone to Watch Over Me: Zee still is a guardian angel, and has found she can attune that to other people at will. That connection becomes more significant with time, but gives her a subconscious awareness of an increasing number of things about the person's life. That includes things like knowing whether someone (or something) wants to hurt them, where they might have left their keys, or whether the family curse is real. She also can take no action to harm that person, and is compelled to actively defend them if they are in genuine danger. Over a long enough span of time (years), fate will ensure she's in a position to help. This connection is voluntary, and Zee can terminate it when she wants to (for example, at the end of an engagement with a client).
-How does she active her attunement?
-Can she attune to more than one?
-You might want to define how fate will ensure she’s in a position to help, like a few examples so we can get a sense of things for plot related reasons. It might also help other players figure out how to draw your character into their own plots in the future or presently.
- Fashion Swordward: Swords aren't exactly common fashion in the 21st century, and Zee usually doesn't actually carry hers. Instead, she summons it to her hand with a thought - provided she hasn't been caught in a magic circle, is under the effect of a drug or alcohol, or the ring she's made for this specific purpose isn't sitting on her dresser. The sword itself is similar to a European hand-and-a-half sword with a wire-wrapped hilt, balanced perfectly for her size and build. The entire weapon is adorned with bright silver design work, which is mostly decorative. It can be taken by others (Zee can only dismiss it if she's holding it), destroyed, and damaged, and is not normally a holy weapon.
-You mentioned mostly decorative. This caught my eyes and if you’ve got secrets you don’t want to reveal on the public CS, please pm them on the site to the GMs. This way we can be aware of them and players can’t accuse you of adding something to your CS, that wasn’t there originally. I originally assumed the non decorative are why she can teleport it into her hands, but I could be wrong. This is why I mentioned the bits above.
- Foci: Some of Zee's jewelry are also potent foci for the kind of magic she's most proficient at. This includes charms to make shields easier to project, a complicated bracelet on her right wrist and palm for guiding lightning bolts from her hands, in addition to a pair of earrings that help not leave her concussed and deaf from the thunderclap. She can still do magic without them, but it's much, much more taxing. These objects were specially created by her over a period of weeks or months, and she does not have spares.
How many does she have exactly? I have ideas with this… >3
Alright, Syn still needs to look through the CS for one last skim through. However, I covered the heavy stuff on my end and should help you with edits. IF you’re confused or need more information, don’t be afraid ask questions, for information, etc. I’ll help the best I can.
