The sleepy town of Swampmuck was the leper of the civilised world, though it's inhabitants were blissfully unaware of how ill-received their little home was, given that few of them had ever ventured beyond it's reaches and knew no better. They did not know that the stench drifting off the swamp when the wind was cruel was a foul one. They did not know they lived in squalor even compared to other villages, and they did not know that bread was more of a staple food then turnips were, given that that was what Swampmuck mostly farmed and mostly ate.

Today was different though. Today was the second day of the Harvest Festival, where folks as far as Middlemarket might mistakenly wander into Swampmuck's reaches and actually enjoy themselves. Stalls of all shapes and sizes lined the streets, covered in brightly coloured cloth that caught the midmorning sun. Voices called through the square, advertising their wares and challenging folks to play carnival games. Beneath the hubbub, laughter and chatter bubbled up like the soft lapping of waves on the shore. It was homely. Everyone was having a good time.

"Behold! Mr Marvelous' Majestic Monsters! Come and see for yourself some of the greatest, most dangerous beasts of the land..."
"Dunk the goblin win a prize! Step right up! Give the nasty beast a bath!"
"Metor Strongman challenge you! Wee wussy folk no beat Metor! Test your strength!" barralled a booming laugh.
"The judging of the Prized Vegetable competition will begin shortly..."

Villagefolk and travellers wandered to and fro among the stalls, holding dusted turnips on sticks and bartering with traders. Overlooking the town square, The Adamant Tankard was bustling with activity, as folks booked up rooms or popped in for a quick drink and a meal. Across the way sat the forge and Ye Olde 'Magic' Bookstore, both of which had seen good business in the day previous. The streets teamed with people, and right bang in the middle of it all, a Dwarf quietly finished setting up his cart.

He was a little late to set up for the festival, but his dusty, worn, high quality clothes told of a long journey from distant lands. His cart sat slap dab in the middle of the Town Square, and villagers parted like waves to wander around him, avoiding his gaze. Two fine horses pulled his cart, one midnight and one chestnut in colour, and they rested quite happily in their harnesses. He pulled a hammer from his belt and with a few good loud THWAKs the sign he had brought with him was planted firmly in the ground, stating his business here.

@rush99999@Cao the Exiled

That artificer class looks sweet as hell.

I usually run this sort of stuff by my partner who's more into the technical side of the game to help me work out if things can get more out of hand then I'm able to predict, so I should have an answer for you later today regarding the Improved Artificer class. Although this is a 300 Wands campaign so I doubt it'll be the most weird thing happening by the time you reach Artificer.

Please bear in mind, folks, you got 5 shorter levels in Commoner to survive get through. I'll be using standard XP (XP for monsters, overcoming traps, exceptional interactions, and cleverly navigating situations) but we might switch to milestone if it feels like a better fit for the game.

I don't usually run with any sort of firearm type thing but, again, I'll have a think about it because it sounds cool.

I haven't heard from @Shovel recently so I might get the ball rolling on the IC front.

While I'd kinda like to start a while before getting the quest and have a chance to enjoy the festivities first, I don't mind starting as we receive the quest if that makes things easier.

Yeah, that's the downside to doing it this way. But I'm kind of hoping people will still have the option to explore the festivities, although I'm guessing the motivation to do so will be a lot less.

Heads up I'm assuming The Adamant Tankard, the forge, and Ye Olde 'Magic' Bookstore are nestled around the village centre in a kind of village square type deal to make things a little more convenient. I think usually in villages of this size things would be clustered together anyway~
Iiiii

finally got around to drawing some fanart of Lauk and Architend

Just need to colour it
@Cao the Exiled So far, I'm mostly limiting Swampmuck to what players decide for their characters. Bear in mind Swampmuck is a very out the way place and quite a small village. But there will be a Harvest Festival on at the start of the game too.

We have:
A forge run by Jhank
A Bookstore called Ye Olde 'Magic' Bookstore, run by Karlin Vicorin
An inn called The Adamant Tankard, run by Bartholomew Strongheart
A tinkerers shop run by Dreeda Brom
and Einkil Torunn goes around Swampmuck, occasionally selling brews and occasionally selling free delicious experiments samples

@Lugia Poor Jhank :_: I hope this goes a bit better for him...

@Necroes that's... surprisingly deep, actually. I'm excited to see which path Einkil finds himself on.

Also, heads up folks. I might condense the first post down and include you guys already starting at the premise quest rather then having to go find it, just to save a few months or so of OOC time.

Speaking of, I wonder if you guys have any personal quests or goals in mind? Or situations/developments you like the idea of for your character (though your character might not agree, lol)

I know, for example, that Bartholomew has a goal to meet lots of interesting people. But I'm wondering if there are any others - e.g. put <shop/town/buisness> on the map or become a famous <fishmonger> ect. Or solve a major undead problem, meet the king, ect.
@rush99999 absolutely perfect, just what I needed, thankyou!

Also a warm welcome to @Cao the Exiled's character Dreeda Brom, just ironing out a few details in PM.

@Shovel you still in, friend?

@rush99999 I guess that would depend on how much business comes through Swampmuck

Which would usually be not very much at all. I imagine some times of the year get pretty close to the wire. Except, it's the time of the Harvest Festival, so at the start of IC your character probably has a bit more going for them then some others.
@kingeditor loved Vodalus' adventure btw xD

Looking forward to seeing how everyone reacts to Vodalus and Markus turning up~

Here's the current Map:

A quick overview:
Architend careered down in a frenzy towards the nearest perceived exit, which Atanese happened to be in direct line of. Aurix managed to step in and calm the beast before Atanese could give the creature a good hard stun. Some of Achitend's items have scattered in among the sand, but it won't take a few moments to scoop them up. Vodalus has been knocked prone onto his rotund caboose and has blessedly minimal injuries. Markus Flintbrook emerges from the shadows, displays his peaceful intentions, and gets ready to work with these clearly seasoned proffessionals. Lauk approaches the horse but seems to be riling up the calmed beast more then anything. Architend begins to stomp the ground in worry.

@Ellri I'm curious as to how Lauk is taking this series of events so far...

EDIT: Also, long time coming, I've added an Art & Reference section to the CS tab! Within which you can find the amazing art @Lauder@Vertigo and @Ellri have drawn so far <3
Fae based rps. The real weird, twisted, OG fairytale types. With the nice, gritty court systems and a bunch of weird monsters you don't know wtf that want to grind your bones into fairy drugs or something.
