My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.
My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.
My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles.
There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking. I highly suggest you try it.
After much consideration, I'm dropping Batman. It just wasn't doing it for me this time around. A successor has already expressed interest and will be applying soon, so if people could hold off on any competing apps until then, I'd appreciate it.

His regeneration also renders him immune to disease, drugs, and toxins, and has expanded his lifespan by hundreds of years. However, he isn't invulnerable - large quantities of such harmful materials can still affect him or even kill him. Nor does healing render him immune to pain, leaving him psychologically compromised.
◼ ENHANCED SENSES Possessing the acute sight, hearing, and sense of smell befitting a hunter of superhuman levels, Logan is able to easily navigate rough terrain in obstructive weather, even when operating in total darkness. As a result, his spatial awareness is unparalleled, making him difficult to surprise.
◼ PSIONIC RESISTANCE As a result of psychological tampering under Weapon X, Logan's memories have long since fractured to the point that psychic and telekinetic tampering is all but impossible. This has made him the perfect soldier to engage mutant enemies of the North American government, but considerably less stable in combat, leading to moments of 'berserker rage' in the field.-

Before the infusion of an adamantium coating, they could be broken as easily as any bone. Now? Not so much, capable of cutting through virtually anything - and anyone.
◼ ADAMANTIUM SKELETON Drafted into the Weapon Plus program, Logan accepted the offer to become an experiment for the weaponized fusion between mutant DNA and an experimental alloy - adamantium beta. His entire skeleton was coated in particles that bonded on a cellular level, forcing his healing factor to compensate by boosting his stamina, poison resistance, and agility. As a result, Logan can withstand more than twice the punishment he doles out, living up to his superiors' design as a virtually indestructible killing machine. -

Born in the 1800s and becoming a mutant early on, James Howlett's first kill was of his father's murderer, Thomas Logan. Paying for that act of raw animality ever since, the man who would take the Logan name as his own went onto live a life of hardship: everyone he grew close to would eventually leave or be taken, whether it was his original love Rose O'Hara, Blackfoot native Silver Fox, or the woman he intended to marry, Itsu. And while he always tried to walk an honorable path that betrayed his animal instincts, Logan managed to make plenty of enemies, from Thomas' son Dog to 'The Slasher' named Creed, even earning the wrath of Itsu's father and his former mentor, Ogun Ryu.
The only time he felt truly whole, ironically, was on the battlefield. Conscripted to join the Canadian Expeditionary Force, his status as a mutant eventually earned him a spot on the infamous Devil's Brigade, a group that would inspire several black-op units to come. Under them, Logan felt free to engage with his feral nature, cutting up enemies as effortlessly as breathing. This got the attention of General William Stryker of Weapon Plus, the predecessor of the Reverend William Stryker of the present. Under them, Logan was bonded with an alloy that made him truly embody his given moniker of 'Piinotoyi' - The Wolverine.
In the present day, Logan has been forced to reckon with his past more directly. With Ogun Ryu seeking revenge for Itsu's death at the hands of Creed, the enemy Logan unwittingly brought to Japan, Wolverine was put in the crosshairs of a brainwashed mutant, codenamed Shadowcat. Logan broke through the girl's programming and reunited Katherine Pryde with her father, but was unable to save Carmen Pryde from the bullets of the anti-mutant terrorist group, The Purifiers.
The last time that Logan and Katherine were seen together was in Germany, when Pryde went off to free captured mutants forced to perform in a traveling circus. Logan himself intercepted an attack by the Purifiers with the help of an old ally...
But the result of the encounter left Logan missing in action by the time that Kitty and a couple of new allies arrived to rejoin him.

I tried with my usual guy, but the truth is, it wasn't a good fit for my ideas in this specific setting. So when Wraith dropped out with the Exiles, the mind started wandering towards what I could do with the X-Men side of things, and here we are. Wolverine is one of my favorite characters, but I've yet to do a meaningful run with him. This game's setup seems like the perfect outlet to really dig into the character and put him in a situation that's unique to this game.
To be honest, this is basically an X-Men app too. The mutant community of this game needs active development, given that they're the ones most vulnerable to Lord and his administration. So like Wraith, I'm going to be using Wolverine to build out a world where some familiar faces can eventually pop up. Starting with where I'm taking Logan, which is in a different direction than what came before...
Expect considerably more opportunities for interaction and plot progression. Logan's definitely a major part of it, but there are also a few factions of mutants that I want to introduce to be able to open up crossovers.

Centuries ago, the Themyskyrian Amazons originally inhabited the city of Themyskira, which was located on the southern coast of the Black Sea in modern-day Turkey. After Herakles and Theseus invaded the homeland of the Amazons to acquire Hippolyta's girdle and subsequently kidnapped some of their sisters, including the queen's sister, Antiope, the Themyskrians relocated to Paradise Island, where they could escape the cruelty of man's world. They then swore to never again interfere with man's affairs after Achilles slew Penthesilea during the final year of the Trojan War. Until the present day, Paradise Island remained in isolation, but when the Reach arrived and turned hostile, the Amazons faced their first external threat since the Age of Homeric Epic. The Themyskyrian Amazons successfully drove out the Reach from their paradise, but not without much cost, including the death of their queen, Hippolyte. Since that day, Diana of Themyskyra sat upon the throne.
Helena Sandsmark achieved her world-renown reputation as an archaeologist from an important discovery at a dig in Athens that provided evidence for the historicity of the Amazonian invasion of Athens during the Bronze Age. From this archaeological and historical breakthrough, Helena secured a position at the Gateway City Museum of Antiquities. A few years later, Helena had a daughter, Cassandra with a mysterious man who left their lives just as suddenly he had appeared. Unbeknown to mother or daughter, the true identity of Cassandra's father was Zeus, the King of the Olympian Gods.
Because Zeus has always been an absent father to all his mortal children, Cassie was raised solely by her mother. Due to her mother's busy career, which included international travel for archaeological digs, Cassie often acted out for attention. The lack of answers from her mother about her dad frustrated Cassie. Once Cassie started attending college, people thought she had outgrown her trouble child phase, as she was pursuing a degree in Classical Studies, almost as if she were following in her mother's footsteps. But what actually happened was that, after the meta-bomb went off, strange phenomena started to pop up around Cassie, things she couldn't rationally explain. Oak trees would spontaneously sprout up where no trees had been standing the day before. Eagles would randomly perch on trees and roofs in Cassie's vicinity. Even the outbreak of thunderstorms would sometimes weirdly coincide when Cassie felt stressed or angry.
After Cassie earned her Master's degree in Classical Studies, she decided that academia was not the career for her and therefore did not pursue a PhD in the same field. Instead, she returned home and worked at Gateway City Museum of Antiquities with her mother while she tried to figure out what path she would take next in her life. On one fateful night, while Cassie was alone at the museum, she experienced something fantastical that would launch Cassie on her journey to become Wonder Woman.
P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S )
I've been told in the past that I should try my hand at Wonder Woman in one of these games due to my enthusiasm for and knowledge of Greco-Roman Mythology. After watching this video essay about the inconsistent characterization of Wonder Woman's villains and giving the idea some thought, I feel I have a concept I would enjoy writing. I have decided to go with Cassie instead of Diana so that I can do a twist on the Wonder Woman origin story (as this game is a "superheroes are a recent thing" setting). Instead of Diana leaving Paradise Island and being a fish out of water in the modern world, Cassie will be undergoing an inverse adventure, where she needs to leave the "World of Man" and find Paradise Island.
The premise of this interpretation centers on the idea of a world without an active Wonder Woman at the start of the story. Outside of this premise, I tried to keep Cassie's backstory relatively vanilla and then applied the implications of a lack of Wonder Woman from there. Furthermore, there is some precedence for an adult Cassie as Wonder Woman, including her Earth-55 counterpart, a hypothetical Teen Titans future, and a 2000's Young Justice story line.
I envision Hera being Cassie's primary antagonist for this concept, as this goes naturally with her being a daughter of Zeus. I see Hera more as a scheming/mastermind villain who sends other baddies against Cassie instead of confronting herself (possibly because Hera sees it as beneath herself to do her own dirty work). This would allow Cassie to encounter both Wonder Woman's rogues gallery and foe & monsters plucked from Greco-Roman mythology. For example, I can imagine an implication of Diana never leaving Paradise Island could be Barbara Minerva taking Diana's position at the Museum of Antiquities, which could give Cassie personal stakes when Hera pits Cheetah against her.
"My fellow Americans. I wish I could say that today isn't one of the darkest chapters of our recent history, that what millions of you saw on the news just hours ago was staged or forged in any way. I honestly wish I could say that."
The look on President Maxwell Lord's face from behind the podium was uncharacteristically somber. The flash of cameras adorning the gallery of the Press Briefing Room gave his stare a more ominous appearance than intended, but the optics of the situation weren't exactly a concern on anyone's mind, much less the leader of the free world's. Having been in a strategic meeting at the time, preferring not to dwell on the incoming loss of the Iron Patriot program after his office had been sent the briefest memo by Stark's team, Lord had only barely been given the rundown of a live broadcast that had unexpectedly been cut short, not to mention cliffnotes of the immediate aftermath from official channels. Someone else in this situation might've been flustered, tripping over themselves to try and assuage the panic of a nation worried that the first of a series of terrorist attacks was coming. That this was some sort of larger coordinated effort, as the Joint Chiefs of Staff had exclaimed in their bid to try and keep Lord in an off-site bunker.
To hell with that. Upon reviewing the footage, the President knew exactly what this had been. All of his fears, his genuine anxieties about what was to come since his election had been confirmed in one of the worst ways - but that didn't mean that he was about to run from the apparent danger. He knew that this was a war that had started the minute that the Reach had placed it on humanity's doorstep. You didn't run from that and still dare to live with yourself.
"While details are still scarce, even to me, I can confirm a few key details. Both Homeland Security and the FBI have reason to believe that the attack at Stark Industries was a solitary effort. Identification of the extremist who executed it is still ongoing, as unfortunately, the individual's face was never captured on camera. And all eyewitness testimony is, frankly, impossible."
Lord opened his mouth to speak. Then stopped, paused in thought. Silent for a deafening few seconds. By the time he regained his composure, whispers could be heard emanating from the crowd in waves.
"I can also confirm that, while the number of casualties is still unknown at this time, one of them... was Anthony Stark."
The flash of the cameras went from periodic to frenzied. The whispers turned into genuine gasps. Some members of the press were yelling over eachother, others were stunned into silence. Tony Stark had been a fixture of the press for nearly two decades, ever since the late Howard and Maria had famously announced the latter's pregnancy during a press release from the Bahamas. The billionaire had left behind quite the complicated legacy, certainly. And even more questions would be asked for years to come about the manner of his death, not to mention the motives behind the announcement made just moments before the incident. But President Lord firmly raised his hand in a powerful show of strength. Those who weren't heeding the call from White House staff to quiet down were suddenly compelled to allow the President to continue.
"I can't claim to have known Mr. Stark very well, at least not personally. He was more acquainted with my predecessor, as many are aware. Under President Ellis, Mr. Stark and his War Machines were considered something of a revolutionary new measure in global defense. They were also incredibly controversial, and my former opponent spent many hours defending their use in the field in this very room. But on the subject of the need for Stark's inventiveness, for his ingenuity in keeping this nation safe, President Ellis and I never disagreed. I daresay that Tony Stark was a vital piece of America."
Lord closed his eyes. "And that piece has been ripped away from us."
With a sigh, the President opened his eyes again, a visible renewal of something within them.
"Not by human terrorists. Not by someone with a gun or a bomb strapped to them, no sniper's bullet aimed from a faraway nest. No, that would be the sort of monstrousness that until a decade ago, we would be able to understand. Not tolerate, never tolerate, but at least be able to understand. Because humanity as we all know it is very cruel and violent, and has been since the dawn of man. But we eventually evolved, becoming better as a people, living together with a general sense of decency and understanding. As a species, we were on the path."
The President could barely contain the venom in his voice as he continued. It was a tone that he had used multiple times on the campaign trail, and evoked plenty of criticism. But there had been just as many who saw it as a tone of righteousness, an honest voice in a sea of deceit that the world of politics had continually wielded like a weapon against the voting public. In some ways, it was a tone that had won him the White House.
"But these metahumans. They aren't something any of us can understand. We don't know what motivates them as individuals, much less as a whole, and how could we? They've been given power that most of us could barely conceive of. Imagine being able to do what the man who murdered Tony Stark could. And imagine that you were similarly fuelled by such a warped ideology, believing in the myth of some mutant haven so much that you would kill in it's name? Would you have been able to stop yourself from thinking you could play God? Would you even bother trying?"
Clasping both hands on either side of the podium, Lord leaned forward.
"These are the exact dangers that my administration has been warning you about since the beginning of my campaign. The curse that The Reach have inflicted upon the Earth, creating both the metahuman threat and emboldening mutantkind. The uncertainty that any of us, even the rich and powerful, are susceptible to these kinds of attacks at random. Individuals walking around with the ability to set themselves off and kill a room full of journalists living among us. Stark Industries just learned the hard reality of that fact in the worst way imaginable. I grieve for a time when that wasn't the case, but we're going to continue to live in unprecedented times for the foreseeable future. Make no mistake, my friends. This exact sort of attack can happen again. And if we don't act soon, it will."
Then, in a moment that nobody saw coming, the President stood upright and spoke words that no one expected him to. Words pertaining to something that the White House had spent weeks attempting to deny through a continued lack of comment. Lord had been in consultation with Vice President Waller about how to move forward from an apparent scandal on that scale, but until they could properly strategize, he had been advised to give no indication of it's validity. But as the former CEO of Roxxon, the President knew an opportunity when he saw one.
"That is exactly why I approved the drafting of Project Daedelus."
Eyes widened from the crowd. Multiple people turned to look at eachother, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Had the President of the United States just openly admitted to enacting metahuman concentration camps? Had he gone insane? Even members of Lord's cabinet who were in attendance seemed highly uncomfortable with such a public revelation. But Lord remained steadfast.
"I know that the public has been demanding answers. Answers about what kind of man, much less what kind of leader could possibly consider such extreme methods. I'm fully aware of how it looks from the outset, and truth be told, my staff and I were unsure of the legalities in approaching the issue. Those files were highly classified, and the method used to illegally obtain them is still under active investigation. But I think that in the interest of transparency, and in light of this shocking crime, the American people deserve to know the truth."
Clasping his hands together and resting them on the podium, the President made direct eye contact with the primary camera feed. If Lord was lying as he spoke, even his most veracious critics would be hard pressed to say that he wasn't at least damn good at it.
"And the truth is that we are still at war. I know that most of us have considered The Reach's leave of Earth to be the end of the single largest conflict that the world has ever seen, but I can't sugarcoat it. We traded peace and security for a swift end to an enemy that is still determined to kill us. And in the aftermath, we were left with the blight of metahumans. Ordinary people rendered a threat to every one of us. It's an ugly truth, but it's one that we have to embrace. And in doing so, I'll admit it here. The American government was forced to explore every possible avenue to regain that security. Project Daedelus was the direct result of that exploration."
And so it had finally come out. The headlines were already brewing, with articles being visibly typed up on phones and notepads just beyond Lord's field of vision. But he seemed eerily calm, even refraining from the hostility that had crept into his voice the minute that he'd started talking about his administration's oft-covered hot button issue.
"But the project was only ever theoretical. An exercise that considered the worst-case scenario. That was the job I've taken on as leader of this nation. I've seen the words 'internment camp' bandied about in the press, but I reject that sentiment wholeheartedly. Exterminating metahumans? Killing mutants? There is nothing to be gained by making martyrs of these individuals. I ran for office on the promise of making America, making the world itself safe from this threat. What possible justification would I have to give them a reason to fight back? To let innocents be caught in the crossfire, like those poor individuals at Stark Industries?"
The President's tone briefly softened - and gradually hardened again.
"No. There's a better way. A more peaceful alternative that can restore the balance. But before we can reach that point, security must be considered above all else. And that is why, in the face of this unimaginable tragedy, I am announcing both swift and decisive action on behalf of the United States government. Tomorrow morning, I will be signing an Executive Order granting law enforcement, at state and federal levels, access to The Agency provided caches of non-lethal power-dampening ordinance to aid in the arrest of probable metahuman and mutant citizens. I urge the governments of the world to consider the same, and offer the full co-operation of Vice President Waller."
The camera flashes were, at this point, blinding. But Lord seemed wholly undeterred.
"From there, each arrest will result in relocation to a facility that will hold them. And I emphasize hold them, because that is precisely what the compound was designed to do. Overseen by the brilliant scientific engineers Professor Anthony Ivo and Dr. Abraham Cornelius, we have built a prison specially designed to detain powered individuals. They've taken to calling it The Raft, and it's exact location will be unveiled later in the week."
As calls for questions slowly began to emerge from the crowd, Lord ignored them, again staring directly into the camera.
"My friends, I realize that there are difficult days ahead. That you may be frightened of the implications that these announcements may generate. But I assure you, everything I've done and everything this administration will be doing is in the interest of keeping all of you safe. You have my word as an American, and more importantly, a human being."
The calls for answers grew louder, nearly drowning out the President's words.
But I suppose that's fair. I apologize for the fact that I've gone well over a month without a post from both the driving antagonist and my own applied character. The only excuse I have is that I've had other obligations, but in my downtime, I also experienced a bit of uncertainty as to where I was going with the overarching Lord plot, with Batman a secondary concern right now.
That uncertainty ended and there now sits a post on my computer that I've got about two-thirds of the way written, after starting it earlier in the week. That one at least will be incoming soon, and the President will definitely be ramping up the anti-meta campaign in a way that I think people will be able to react to and hopefully play with.

A title given in a mocking tone that is slowly becoming a legend, the Guardians of the Galaxy are a band of spacefaring outlaws with a (usually) strong sense of right and wrong. Even to consider them a team, for their formation occurred more from chance than desire, can seem somewhat premature, but bonds forged in the fires of battle are strong. Their story begins in Earth’s past, with the birth of an alien-human hybrid, the child of a human woman and an alien prince stranded on Earth and momentarily free of the responsibilities of a stellar war. Duty, or power, eventually overcame love and so the human was left behind with a newborn. While they may have had no role or even knowledge of their lineage, the child would one day discover their only gift from their father, a twin set of pistols able to harness the elements themselves. Shortly after their lineage would have more tragic consequences, as several groups of aliens would secretly come to Earth in the hope of riches by ransom, or simply revenge. The most notorious of these groups, the Badoon, were at least partially successful, both in infiltrating the Earth and in locating the Quill family. When they struck, under the guise of local armed criminals, they murdered Peter's mother and took the boy prisoner, intent on turning him over to an enemy of Peter's unknown father.
They would never reach their intended destination, intercepted by the Ravagers under the command of Yondu Udonta. The spacefaring bandit felt some kind of kinship and sympathy for the young Earthling, rather than return him to Earth or attempte to fulfill the bounty himself, he adopted Peter into his crew. During his spaceborne adventures, Peter would eventually encounter the cosmic being the 'Star-Lord' and deemed worthy of its power, becoming the new bearer of the title. While the Ravagers under Yondu, in particular with Peter's influence, became more akin to the loveable rogues of Earthbound Loxley, eventually their true nature would show, abandoning Peter to the Nova Corps rather than face further pursuit. Locked away in the secure facility of the Kyln, Peter would encounter those who would become his companions. Genetically engineered Rocket Racoon and the last of the Groot. The pair had become close after ending up within the prison due to matters they at least considered to be beyond their control and saw a similar situation in Quil, even if it took some time for anything close to trust to grow between them.
The Klyn had been notorious as a facility from which no one could escape, not just from the security of the facility but also due to it's close orbit of a Black Hole time-space anomaly. Yet fate would not be content for the Corps to claim this particular trio. An attack on the facility allowed them to stage a daring self-rescue, taking with them the Nova Corps ship, the Milano. Chosen to allow the Nova Corp to keep prisoners of both criminal and political reasonings for essentially indefinite periods. The anomaly would create a previously unknown eventuality, however, when a gleaming device of terrifyingly advanced technology was ripped out of its interdimensional and back into reality close to the Kyln. Such was the force and power of the displacement that its occurrence was detected far and wide, and soon came calling some of the greater threats of the universe. Some may have had forewarning of what the vessel represented, some simply wished to claim any potential source of power for themselves. Either way, the immediate chaos formed by warring powers enabled a desperate escape. Sizing the Nova Corps craft, the Milano, our intrepid heroes had little aim other than leaving as soon as possible, but curiosity and then compassion prevented such. At the heart of the conflict was a young woman of seemingly incredible power, yet no doubt likely to be eventually subdued by those seeking already to claim her. She may have appeared similar to Peter Quill, but it was clear she was different in the extreme in hidden biology. This was how our rag tag bunch of rogues met Kara Zor-El, Scion of Krypton and passenger from the future.
With the passing of time external being far longer than their relatively brief incarceration, even the other members of the Guardians found themselves largely cut off from any contacts they may have known. With Kara insistent that she must make her way to the fabled ‘Planet Earth’ and Peter who wished to take the opportunity to return to his true home, the Guardians looked to find the distant planet. Unfortunately so far they have found any limited reference to the planet removed from any database they have found, a no doubt deliberate attempt to obfuscate the location of the planet. So they continue to search, while continually getting into trouble they should better avoid, and steadily building the reputation of the Guardians, who may one day even be the heroes some once joked they could be.

Doesn't this look like that other sheet you wrote? Yes but I never got to actually write for that and I feel I've adapted this to a new game state.
Firstly, given the changes to Kryptonians and the state of Krypton in the Superman background I thought it best to wrap both Kara's into one character, simultaneously being Superman's cousin while also being from another dimension/time. This includes adapting Power Girl's newer dimensional abilities along the lines of changes to the way Kryptonian physiology works. If she is actually from the same Krypton as Superman or from a slightly different one is something that could be explored later, although she certainly believes her mission to reach Earth revolves around finding her cousin.
I've trimmed the Guardians roster down to focus on the original adventuring core of the group rather than Gamora and Drax who pull the group more into the intergalactic threats scale. These are a bunch of displaced people looking for a home they can secure, while accidently being heroes along the way. The idea for me would be to get to Earth quickly so that I could interact with others and also deal with the whole fish out of water scenario they'd all find themselves in.
Eventually some of the more traditional Guardians threats could crop up, but I feel like those are more whole game threats than anything I would opt to write on my own.
Sorry for the delay. But The Guardians Of The Galaxy are hereby APPROVED!

Virgil's innate electric resistance can be overcome by large electric currents of sufficient voltage, although this has never been explored. Virgil's cells also act as bioelectrical 'batteries', allowing him to drain, store and release electricity for later use. Virgil's bioelectricity can be depleted if he generates electricity for extended periods of times and must be recharged from nearby electric power sources. Virgil's innate electrophysiology results in a higher bodily static charge which can lead to unintended effects when contacting machinery, objects or living beings.
◼ ELECTROMAGNETIC MANIPULATION Virgil's primary ability is to manipulate electromagnetic phenomena, primarily in the form of electricity. Virgil can achieve simple effects such as manipulating static attraction to enable him to cling to objects and levitating metallic objects to more esoteric effects such as generating electromagnetic forcefields and manipulating electrons at the subatomic level. More advanced applications of his powers require higher concentration and effort to achieve. Usage of his abilities also drain his bioelectricity and Virgil abilities are severely limited if he does not have a sufficient reservior.
◼ ELECTROMAGNETIC DETECTION Virgil can detect and sense electromagnetic waves and currents in his surrounding environment up to three blocks, perceiving it as music. -

Really, Rubberband? You wanna go over it all again? You want to know the truth? Alright, cuz this is the 100 percent unverified truth. Static style.
I'mma hear None of that bull served by those pigs on the TV. 'Gang war'. 'Robbery'. Buncha bullshit.
Only thing we all agree with was that it started with the Big Bang. Triple G's to blame for that stupid ass nickname. I'll just call it for what it is. Same old story of protests and police that's always happened in America. I was out there that night protesting. Yeah, you heard me. You think you remember who I was, I say come fuckin get me.
We were out there that day because of Marvin. Media probably forgot about him now but they were sure quick to offer their sympathies that day. You remember him too, Rubberband. Marvin. 16 yyears. Perfect SAT scores. Got a Stark Industries internship. Genius. One of those guys you knew who could change the world.
Two weeks before the protest, he got wasted by the friggin' cops for taking out his smartphone the wrong way.
We wanted to have our voice heard. Cops didn't.
So, an hour into the protest and we're in the docks when all of a sudden, we hear sirens. Couple of the stragglers bounce but we try and keep chill. We let the authorities know we're organizing. Having a peaceful protest. Things was different, though. Before, everyone was all loose and calm. Now, with a couple of glorified mall cops peeking over our shoulder, we all felt as though we were a dog in a cage. People were getting antsy and fritzy.
Couple of those corpo freaks from AlvaTech lended a couple of Reach tech to the police. Called it a enhanced non-lethal crowd dispersal tool. I'mma just call a duck a duck. It was tear gas. Not the usual, onion in your eyes crap but different. It didn't make you cry but it made you freeze up, locked all your muscles in place. Some of my buddies called it like having glass shoved down your bones and your legs turn to rubber- no offense, Rubberband.
We know now in the Agency papers that the gas they used was an experimental nanotech gas that was meant to subtly change your genetic makeup over time. Hypothesis from the feds was that it was an experiment to see if the meta gene could be slowly introduced over a period of time in a general population. One guy could just run fast, his son would run at the speed of sound, you get the drift.
What those Reach guys didn't plan that day was the shipment of chemicals that had arrived on the port that day. I've thought so many times about what went wrong that day. Maybe, it was one asshole in our crowd, some carrying iron when they weren't supposed to....Anyway, protest took a turn. Police began to call SWAT. They began unloading that tear gas on us, they call it quantum gas now. Then, the Bang happened. Some bullet hit a gas tank and the gas tank exploded with all the chemicals stored at the dock.
I don't remember what happened much until I woke up with a bunch of tubes hooked up to me. Few weeks later, people start developing powers. You probably know all the famous ones by now. Ebon....Kangorr.....Talon....Shiv......Media started calling us Bang Babies, Triple G gets all the credit for that one. Agency locks Dakota City out and turns it into a quarantine zone. Blah blah blah blah, go search up Wikipedia if you want to write an essay on this.
So, why do I do this, Rubberband? I do it cause I want to make something out of myself. We all only got one life on this earth.
Before the Big Bang, I was nothing, hear me.
Now, I get to be something.
What's the use of power if you don't use it to help the little guy on the street?"
Born the child of Robert and Sarah Hawkins, Virgil's life was just as ordinary as it could be for a teenager until one bad day, when he got caught in the middle of the Big Bang. The incident changed Dakota City forever, giving rise to a new breed of meta-humans dubbed by the media as Bang Babies. Manifesting electromagnetic abilities from the incident, Virgil became the vigilante known as Static to control the outbreak of bang babies and chaos that ensued after the Big Bang.
One year after the Big Bang, the Agency declared Dakota City a quarantine zone on account of a disturbing new trend. There were reports of spontaneous development of metahuman powers within Dakota City, a phenomenon known as bang bloomers. Until the effect was fully studied and understood, Dakota City would remain closed off from the world. Virgil managed to escape in time alongside his family and hopes to make a new life for himself in New York City.
Unfortunately, the shadows of Dakota won't leave as more meta humans from Virgil's city flock to New York in search of a new home.....
P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S )
So, after some mulling and some time spent off the character, I decided to return back to Virgil with a fresh lens. I feel that Static's overall history (limited as it is) and the themes that have resonated from both the show and the comic with me fit well with the overall meta-narrative of resistance and government overreach in this universe.
We aren't telling the origin story of Static this time around. Static has been operating in the public eye for a good two or three years now. He can't quite return back to his home city as it is the site of the Big Bang and therefore, has served as a metahuman quarantine zone. Static managed to sneak out for reasons that will explored later in the story and is now based in New York City alongside a couple of other stragglers from the Big Bang Incident.
The key element that I want to reframe significantly in this version of Static's story is the villains. Static villains are the same people that participated in the protest that led in the Big Bang. What happens when you give a bunch of young people, disillusioned with the powers that be, actual superpowers? Certainly not heroes but certainly not villains either. I think that's something I want to explore in this RP.
Static is hereby APPROVED!
To anyone requesting an extension, I'm just gonna go ahead and say you have it. I'm well over two weeks myself and would be a hypocrite if I were to deny that without taking myself off the roster.
Very well, where do I begin?
