Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

roleplayerguild.com/posts/5… If anyone's up for fighting some kaiju, why not try out my new RP, Godzilla: YATAGARUSU?

@Duoya: He looks fine to me!
@Rin: Accepted!
@Bartimaeus: Yes, feel free to!

I'll also post my character as an example:

  • Name: Chiba Chinatsu
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: "Of course you are." Chinatsu is short, at under five feet in height.
  • Personality: Chinatsu is a serious-seeming girl who is also rather down to earth and practical. However, in spite of this attitude, she also has quite an aggressive temper and a deeply sarcastic side she is liable to unleash rather freely. However, Chinatsu is also very focused on her goals, and frequently channels her temper into combat. At the same time, when she becomes angry enough she may begin to misjudge what she is doing and make mistakes. Regardless, she is a rather snarky girl even when not in a bad mood, deadpan sarcasm or biting insults being her preferred way to display mild irritation. Chinatsu dislikes stupidity, and she will loudly voice her discontent with anyone behaving stupid. Chinatsu is confident in her abilities as a fighter, but lacks self-confidence in a number of other areas, such as her lack of physical maturity, or her height. She is also very easy to make flustered or embarrassed, in spite of her serious and confident behavior. At the moment, her aggression is largely directed towards ascending the ranks and taking on the Student Council President herself.
  • Backstory: Chinatsu is hardly very forthcoming about her history, but it seems she was raised by a relatively average family until her father died in a sudden accident. It wasn't long after that her mother, too, fell ill and died. Without parents, raised by a family friend, Chinatsu ended up focusing on the use of AE Devices, particularly Ryu, the sword owned by her family. This singlemindedness lead to her being referred to as the Bloody Assassin during Junior High. After spending only a short time at a different High School, she suddenly left and transferred to Shiroyama. On her first day, she declared her intent to defeat the Unbreakable Student Council president, something no student has ever achieved. Her fellow students thought this was ridiculous, as she was a Rank 0 regardless of her reputation in the past. Shiroyama's standards are quite high, after all. After being harassed by a Rank 10 student during lunch, Chinatsu defeated him almost effortlessly, sending her immediately up to Rank 5.
  • Inherent Engine Skill: Flash Step - Chinatsu can perform what is seemingly teleportation, but is in fact a sudden acceleration to ridiculous speed, for a split second. This causes her to seemingly disappear and reappear to avoid attacks or suddenly close a small gap between herself and a target.
  • Active Engine Device: Ryumaru - A glowing, red, straight-bladed katana referred to as "Ryumaru" by Chinatsu, this AE Device crackles with red energy when unsheathed. Naturally, it is capable of a basic, straightforward function. That is, cutting things. It's rather effective at doing so, slicing through mundane materials easily. It is normally carried sheathed on Chinatsu's lower back. It has a few different functions.
    • Shoheki Taberu: An attack designed to destroy mana core-based defenses, Shoheki Taberu surrounds Ryu with energy and forces itself into the outer layer of shielding. Then, it releases this energy, in a move designed to dissolve the barrier from the inside out be directing its own energy through the barrier's structure. However, Shoheki Taberu has no use against physical barriers, or any IE skill that directly hardens the body. In addition, the attack must hit point first.
    • Fukusū no hōkō Jikkō Kōgeki: An attack that causes Ryumaru's blade to alter its course in an impossible way, striking at two different angles on a single target simultaneously. This ability is not impossible to block, but it does certainly offer a difficult attack for an opponent to deal with.
    • Ansatsu Mode: A "kill or be killed" last ditch effort attack, Ansatsu Mode transforms Ryumaru into a large, even sharper form, the blade splitting and producing red energy to length and enhance its cutting capabilities. This form begins to draw off of Chinatsu's vitality, quickly draining her of all her remaining ability remain on her feet, but is incredibly dangerous to her opponent and very capable of winning a battle in a single blow, if she can land it before collapsing.
  • Skills: Chinatsu is an awful, awful cook, to the point of her cooking being considered an "alternate weapon". Aside from that, she is extremely fast and light on her feet, a capable and speedy girl who can even briefly run along walls.
  • Rank: 5th
  • Club: Chinatsu has no allegiance to any clubs for now.
"My my, as Eviandre been busy here, or something like that?" commented Sylphie, cocking her head as she was greeted with the sight of the forest unfolding ahead of them. Certainly, the only explanation for such a vast swath of trees growing in their absence was surely the goddess of nature, or one of her demigods, choosing to lay it down for whatever reason. Not that it made any particular sense. She, and by extension those who became her branches, were rather pacifistic unless directly threatened. Raising a forest right here didn't stand to reason.

"If they did slaughter those who lived here, then the answer is simple," continued Sylphie, gesturing with one hand idly as she did, a smile coming to her lips, "To butcher them all. To pay evil unto evil. It's not as if we're not already planning on such things, however."

It was a natural conclusion to the East Pillar. They had been sealed away to return and massacre the villains responsible for this situation in the first place. The Volstanian Empire... Ah, the memories were all coming back to her. Their warm blade splattering on her face, spraying across her sword, as she cut them down again and again and again. Slaughtering those who would commit evil deeds, those who would hurt others for their own gain. The sinners were tasting the fruit of their sins. Victory with the death of the wicked.

That was why she was here.

"But I suppose there's no reason to rush blindly..."

The petite girl stepped forwards, towards the forest.

Characters:
Shiroyama High School.

A place for students to learn, a place for them to grow into adulthood, to make friends, to get to know one another. Like any high school, Shiroyama was built to be a place of learning and growth for all who attend. Naturally, the students who go there are subject to a wide variety of new experiences. Their high school lives will be filled with knowledge, growth, and battle.

Especially battle.

Shiroyama High School is, of course, no simple high school. It is among one of Japan's fourteen Battle Schools, a place of learning and a place of combat rolled into one. Students are not only tasked with learning their daily lessons, they are also tasked with combating one another. Ever since the newest student council president took over, however, things have become especially intense. In order to encourage what she believed was a slacking student body, she introduced a variety of radical changes to the school's combat programs.

One of these changes introducing a system of rewards for students and clubs to defeat one another, as well as a chain of "rankings". The higher level a student was to become, the more benefits they and their club began to receive. At the same time, however, the rewards for defeating such a powerful student grew as well. This created an even more competitive climate in Shiroyama High School. The highest of ranks, of course, are those who stand by the side of the Student Council President herself.

Naturally, she ensured she had the full cooperation of the faculty in order to carry out these massive changes.

But is this all there is to it? Or is there something more to the battlefield that the daily lives of Shiroyama's students has become?

Shiroyama is a large, multi-level school building with an enormous campus, allowing for both a large amount of freedom of movement on the school grounds as well as a variety of different battlefields. All students are provided with a tablet and observation device included in their uniform which automatically adds any wins, advancements in ranks, and battle points to their profile, or the profile of their clubs.

Here's a rundown of Shiroyama's current battle system:

  • Battle Points: One of the most important aspects of the current battle system, Battle Points are a currency awarded to the winning combatant, depending on how high-ranking their opponent was. These points can be used for a variety of different purposes, such as purchasing equipment or funding improvements to a club's room. These Battle Points, also known as BP, are the driving force behind most combat at Shiroyama High School.
  • Student Rank: Ranging from zero to fifty, the Student Rank is a demonstration of a Student's power. The higher the rank, the more battle points they have accumulated by this point, and the more privileges they have obtained. A similar ranking system is also applied to clubs, the club rank an aggregate of the club members. The only Rank Fifty student in Shiroyama is the high school's Unbreakable Student Council President, Yukimura Atsuko. The next highest ranking students are all members of the student council as well.
  • Student Database: Accessible via the tablets provided to all students of Shiroyama High School, the Student Database records all student profiles and can be used to quickly look up the rank and rewards provided by an opponent.
  • Club Battle: Two or more clubs may participate in battle with one another for a very large amount of BP. However, this action must be overseen by a Student Council member and may not occur indoors, in order to avoid severe collateral damage.

As for how students conduct battle, in this world all humans are possessed of a Mana Core, a source of powerful energy deep inside their bodies. Various devices have been constructed across history to tap into these Mana Cores, and as a result a wide variety of weaponry using mana has become created.

In addition, many of Shiroyama's students may possess Inherent Engine Skills, or IE Skills. IE Skills utilize the mana core as an engine to produce a usually-passive effect, such as a form of second sight or other similar abilites. Very rarely are they active combat skills, but they can be used to aid in battle.

Weapons and devices that utilize the wielder's mana core are known as Active Engine Devices, or AE Devices. These Actively siphon energy from the user's mana core in order to produce a wide variety of feats, such as powerful attacks and barriers. An AE Device can be anything from a weapon to something worn on the body.

Now, fight for you ascendance, Students of Shiroyama High School!

So, this is an idea @RoleplayerRoxas and I cooked up recently. It just sounded too fun not to try out. ^^;

Players will naturally play as students, and teachers, of Shiroyama High School. These students have been pitted against one another to earn points for themselves and their clubs, to advance their rank and become top in the school. Some students may even aspire to defeat the Student Council President herself.

Of course, that might not be all there is to it. And there's a new transfer student stirring things up.

@RoleplayerRoxas will be my co-GM, helping me handle the plot and NPCs, as well as signups since I am stretching myself a bit thin. ^^;

I may allow players to control student council members, but for now I'm having them as NPCs unless someone proves I can trust them with some of the most powerful starting characters in the RP. ^^;
