Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

Hey.

Figured I'd let everyone know, but I'm kind of demoralized after a lot of the players for this seem to have vanished. Rather then trying to push forward I decided I'll put this on the backburner for now.

Sorry to anyone who was still enthusiastic about this idea.
The girl couldn't remember how she had come to this alleyway. Certainly, she had to have walked here, but she didn't remember how or why. It wasn't where she wanted to be. It wasn't on the way to her destination. It wasn't some sort of shortcut. It was a desolate and isolated location where she felt completely alone in the dark. She had just been out with her friends, where had they all gone? She couldn't even see the moon from where she was. Why was she here? How had she gotten so lost? She'd walked these streets plenty of times, and yet she didn't even recognize this alleyway.

Part of her was cursing herself for staying out so late. But... shouldn't it have been fine? She had been surrounded by other people, and it had been so brightly lit. There shouldn't have been anything that could have gone wrong.

And yet now she was here. Now she was alone in a nearly pitch-black alleyway, that seemed to stretch long enough in both ways that she could just barely see the light on the street. But... at least this gave her a destination, didn't it? If she could just get to the light, she'd be out of this horrible alleyway.

The girl took a deep breath, steeling her nerves before making her way as quickly as she could towards the light. For a while, it almost seemed as if she wasn't making any progress, but slowly, slowly, the pinpoint of light began to grow. It felt as if it was taking hours to reach it, but she was getting there.

Where had she even gotten lost? Where was this?

Heart hammering in her chest, the girl pushed herself onward. She had to escape this terrible alley. She had to get back to her friends and let them know she was okay.

But then...

It was getting harder to see. But it wasn't getting darker.

Fog. There was fog rolling in around her. Suddenly mist was filling the alleyway and obscuring the light she had been striving for. How had something like this happened?! It was a perfectly clear night, and now... now she was lot in the fog, so thick that she could barely see her hands in front of her face.

"... I-is anyone there?" she called, finally, desperately, "Th-this isn't funny, it's not! J-just... if this is some kind of prank... I..."

There was a noise behind her. Wide-eyed, the girl immediately grabbed her phone.

Before she could attempt to call emergency services, to call someone, a jolt went through her spine as she felt fingertips run down her back.

There was a voice.

"I must take everything you have."

There was a searing blast of pain through her torso and abdomen. For a few scant moments, she could see them, her internal organs splayed across the ground, barely visible through the mist.

And then...

Nothing.

Jack the Ripper of 2019

It was midday.

For those who undertook lessons at the Tower, London's prestigious Mage Circle, this meant for some that they were attending a lecture. For others, it meant they were finishing up their work for the day. Students were currently walking the halls, be it to make their way to another class, to study, or to return to their dorms, or perhaps their homes if they lived close by. The myriad of magi in-training filled the halls and many of the rooms.

There was one hallway in particular that was less occupied. Shafts of light shown in through the windows, though from the outside the building itself wouldn't even be visible. Given the day's brightness, the lamps lining the top of the hall were dimmed.

Walking through this hallway, however, were two notable figures.

One was a petite blonde girl, childish in appearance, wearing grey-blue clothing. The other was a somewhat taller, though still not by much, silvery-haired girl, trailing her movements.

"I wonder if they're all squirming in their seats as I keep them waiting~" mused the blonde girl, a small smile on her lips as she spoke, "I wish I could see, but it's difficult to be in two places at once."

She shrugged to herself, with a mock sigh. The magi she had recently called into her service via contract had all been ordered to meet in one of the Tower's lounges, a place usually reserved for relaxing and studying between classes. Normally, she would have asked them to meet at her home, but in this case it was simply easier to summon them to the west lounge rather then take a detour to her mansion.

Arinne Velvet Ar-Rynesarte wanted to have something of a discussion. Recent events in London had caught her attention, after all. A certain figure appearing in the news.

This Jack the Ripper of 2019.

"Well, as long as they all show up," the small blonde said, waving her hand as she did. If they didn't, well, there would be consequences. The contracts forged by her family certainly weren't impotent, after all. It was right in the terms. As the head of the Ar-Rynesarte, she was able to call them to meet whenever she desired, to watch them squirm under her command. That thought was always exciting to the girl.

But there was a goal she was chasing beyond simply seeing those beneath her struggle.

Arinne paused for a moment, glancing back towards the girl trailing her.

"I've had some tea and biscuits delivered to the room for the both of us, Saturday," she stated, "It won't do to go without a snack."

They would be there when Arinne and Saturday arrived, of course.

Soon enough, both girls reached the dark oak door to the west lounge. Without being touched, it simply opened inwards on its own. The lounge itself was lit with small lamps and candles, featuring a soft red carpet and numerous large, cushioned chairs, and a long dark table in the center. Indeed, on it was the plate of biscuits and freshly-brewed tea, just as Arinne had ordered.

Of course, there were the occupants of the room as well.

"Hello there," said Arinne, with a wave of her hand as she took her seat on a red velvet armchair, crossing her legs and cocking her head to one side, "Have you been waiting long? Fufu, I don't really care if you have~"

She waved her hand dismissively.

"But, I wonder... can any of you guess why it is I called you all here today so suddenly?"

Sylphie simply shrugged, cocking her head to one side. Amdel's situation was a hilarious one, but at the same time lingering here was the last thing that she wanted to do. The black-haired girl allowed her sword to dissipate, dispelling it, the shape of the weapon fading into golden motes of light and drifted into the air before vanishing entirely. It was a bit of a shame the old sage hadn't had a more amusing reaction to her situation, but oh well. There would be plenty of other things to focus on after she left this place.

"I suppose I should wait to 'loosen up' until we're out of here," she commented. Really, Sylphie hoped there were some bandits nearby, the really nasty kind... that would be a good warmup, wouldn't it? "I can't imagine the rest of you are eager to remain in this place much longer, after all."

Sylphie approached the doorway, pausing only a moment. Part of her almost wanted to linger a little longer, for the opportunity to tease the sage a little more, to see if she could garner a more amusing reaction. But she also wanted to see what was in store for them outside...

Oh? The huge half-elf had been next to awaken? And then...

The magus. The one who felt wrong. Not evil, no. It wasn't malevolence that Sylphie sensed from her, or else she would have struck her down where she stood without the slightest hesitation. But there was something inhuman, something strange. Something distinctly other, that the small girl's nature as a demigod allowed her to perceive. It was not something she would attack, no. But it was something she would be aware of.

Her words, however...

Smirking, the black-haired girl placed one hand to her cheek.

"Oh, you'd like to loosen up?" she asked, letting out a light chuckle as she did, "Fine then. I'm already trembling with anticipation~"

There was a low humming sound as she stretched out one arm, then a flash of golden light. A circle of magical energy spread from her palm, and began to move away. In its wake, it left... first the hilt, then the thick, heavy blade. Sylphie's arm jostled slightly from the sudden weight in her grip.

The Left Seat, Pillar of the East, licked her lips. Getting to fight, even non-lethally, it would still be victory for her. But what she really wanted was to hunt down the first evil presence she could find after leaving the chamber.

Oh, that... wait. Who was the child, suddenly protesting? Calling her young lady? Was she-

...

The chamber she had come out of... that was...!

Sylphie's smirk spread into a grin. The tip of her blade hit the floor with a dull, metallic thunk and a shower of sparks as she bent forward, clutching at her belly. Oh that was too good, that was hilarious! That was far too hilarious! Soon enough, she was laughing hysterically, raising her free hand to point at the other little girl.

It was a few moments before Sylphie could calm herself, wiping a tear from her eye.

"Young lady? Are you sure you should be calling anyone that?" she asked, teasingly, "Oh Great Sage Amdel?"

The next response was not a vocal one.

There was a dull thud. And then, another. And then one more.

She was feeling impatient. She'd already been contained here all this time, so by this point... it felt like she'd taken a nap. But she knew it had been far longer than that. She didn't want to be there any longer.

With a final thud, the lid of the coffin hissed open.

Slowly, she sat up. one hand rose, flicking her black hair out of her eyes, before they opened. One, deep crimson red, and the other gleaming gold, almost seeming to glow. She appeared to be a child, but everyone here would know that wasn't the case.

For this was Death Angel Sylphie, Left Seat of the Goddess of Righteous Victory and the Slaughter of the Wicked.

Casting her eyes around the room, she noticed that it seemed only one of the other coffins had opened, only the beastman Cauna seeming to have awakened already. With a smirk, Sylphie gave a mock yawn as she rose to her feet.

"My my," she began, "Am I one of the first to awaken? I certainly hope that the others aren't trying to sleep in~"

Her tone was light and playful, as she stepped from the coffin and stretched. The dress she wore was in no worse condition then it had been when she first put it on, the frilly skirt bouncing slightly with her movements. In all honesty, the demigod didn't feel too inclined to wait until the others awakened. She wanted to be out there, to be doing exactly what her position as the Left Seat indicated.

To slay the wicked and claim victory.

But, given the way that the doors functioned, she didn't have much of a choice. At least... for a bit. Would the doors withstand a direct blow from her sword...?

Well, there was some time before she resorted to testing that out.

Sylphie stretched again. There were many, certainly, who needed to be sent for Aphei's judgement, then to the mercy of the God of the Underworld. There had to be. The longer she stayed here, the more time they had to be alive...

For now, she could entertain herself by teasing the others as they awakened, supposed the demigod. And Cauna was already awake... she flashed him a smirk.

"Hmm... well, if they have some kind of base in the forest, it wouldn't just disappear, right?" Hikari commented, glancing up towards Fuyuko as she spoke. Ahead, the forest wasn't much further... there was a park, but it wasn't in this area, meaning they'd more or less be walking right into the woods. If there was some kind of mansion or whatever there, then it wouldn't be that hard to find, right? Even if it was magical, they were magical girls, so that meant they had an edge on this kind of thing. At least that's what the short brunette assumed, it made enough sense to her.

"So, it has to be in there somewhere... it's just a matter of tracking it down," declared Hikari, nodding confidently to herself. This was the kind of thing magical girls were supposed to do! So there was no reason to be doubtful, right? This bunny mask creep, archetype or human, was going to go down tonight!

Almost as soon as Fuyuko pocketed her phone, it buzzed with another message.

It was from Shining Fist.

"Great! I'm caught up doing something with my family right now, but I'll see if I can join you soon!"

@LuckyBlackCat
I think I've given this a good length of time, I'll be posting the OP this weekend.
I'll post tomorrow!
Now it was the Three Hundred Man-Slayer who was on the defensive.

Altering the course of his swing, he spun in place, sparks flying as metal struck metal. He staggered, gritting his teeth. Fanilly noticed it didn't seem as if the arm she had stabbed was working properly... it could no longer form a fist. Had she severed something inside? And yet, he was still gripping his enormous blade one-handed, the blood from the man he had killed glistening on its steel.

"Fine. I'll take all of you on!" he snarled, taking another step back as he did. His arcing slash had been designed to force back his attackers as smoothly as possible, and give him as much breathing room as he could get. Fanilly took a step forward, her breathing still somewhat ragged as she raised her blade. She had to do everything she could to ensure the Bandit King-No, that Knight's Doom Jeremiah was defeated here and now!

Suddenly, he drove his blade downwards and dragged it through the earth, kicking up a cloud of dust and debris! It was from here that he raised his blade once more, preparing to strike a heavy blow...!

As for the rest of the battle, the bandits seemed somewhat emboldened by the appearance of their leader, having failed to realize her cared absolutely nothing for them. They were beginning to rally, somewhat... but others were still attempting to flee, or throwing down their weapons and falling to their knees. At this point, the battle largely hinged on Jeremiah himself.

  • Name: Nakano Hisa
  • Age: 17
  • Appearance: "There's no question. The best magus will win, and than magus is me." A petite girl who could be mistaken for a child.
  • Personality: As the child of a branch family of nobility in the Clock Tower, one supported by the main branch due to their impressive capabilities in magecraft, it is perhaps no surprise that Nakano Hisa possesses something of an ego. Indeed, Hisa has a habit of talking down to others, her utter certainty in her own superiority dripping for her words. Smug to a fault, Hisa firmly believes it is her role to uphold her family's legacy and continue their craft, something she believes she is more than capable of. While her arrogant and egotistical nature cannot be overstated, as well as the habit she has of mocking and teasing others, Hisa is not without other facets to her personality. In spite of her egotistical nature, as a magus she is highly considerate of the wellbeing of those uninvolved with the supernatural. She does not fully close her heart, as other magi frequently do. It isn't merely because of the necessity of keeping magecraft secret, but rather due to the fact that it is simply the right thing to do as far as she is concerned. Yes, Hisa's ego cannot be overstated, but at the same time she has consideration towards that which is right and just. Perhaps in her mind there is no actual reason why she must abandon her morality simply to be successful as a mage. However, her confidence is perhaps also one of her flaws, as she has a tendency to assume that she will outmatch nearly any opponent she comes across, at least insofar as humans go. Not even her ego would let her believe she could fight a Servant head-on.
  • Abilities: Hisa possesses a high number of high-quality magic circuits, making her an excellent mage in terms of both the quality of her magecraft and the amount of it she is capable of performing. Indeed, she can be considered something of a prodigy, a shining beacon of the Nakano family's artifice. In terms of her magecraft, Hisa's affinity is Air. Not only does this make her best at spells utilizing air and wind specifically, but it also increases her capability relating to spells that relate to flow and motion. Spells that accelerate reaction times or cause objects to move faster or slower, as well as spells that directly manipulate the air to create blades of wind or remove it from a location, all fall under her area of expertise.
  • History: Hisa is the heir to the Nakano family, a branch of a the prestigous Velverie family of the Clock Tower through her grandfather. Initially dismissed by their main family, the magecraft prowess exhibited by the Nakano bloodline swiftly drew their attention and support. On this matter, Hisa is no exception. A prodigy even by the high standards of the Nakano family, her childhood was one spent preparing her for such a position. It was when the Holy Grail War first became general knowledge that the Velvarie family pressed the Nakano family to participate, and they put forth Hisa as the one to enter the Holy Grail War. The Velvarie even provided her with a shard of the Round Table to use a catalyst...
