We are not.

It is my growing personal conviction that there's a culture clash between this place and our particular group. Every single time we've tried to engage with people here, it's ended up exploding in our faces. I'm woman enough to admit that some of that is likely on us - no one in the Alliance is a particularly meek or amiable personality on the best of days (there's a reason I act as the group's spokesman), but a larger part of it is on folks who seem to be surprised that we're not willing to job our faces off to inflate win counts around here and grovel at the feet of Da Champs until we've 'earned our place'.

RPGuild's Arena doesn't really seem to enjoy the sorts of fights we do, and we don't enjoy the sorts of fights we keep finding here. Everyone in the Alliance cut their teeth on a tier of combat where star systems were legitimate targets, and we all like savoring combat and drawing out a fight for twenty, thirty, or more turns over dozens of exchanges. A true display of each fighter's versatility, adaptability, inventiveness, and perseverance in the face of unrelenting, unflagging war. One Punch-y instagib five-post fights are not considered marks of skill or distinction for us; they're considered marks of scorn for a player considered beneath the attention and effort required of a proper fight.

We've decided it would likely be for the best for us to withdraw from play here. You don't want us here, and we don't particularly feel like being here anymore. Why keep pretending otherwise?

Too hasty of a judgement, too soon of a leave. You could've kept digging untill you hit gold; but suit yourselves.

Come back when the drama's grown dead cold then, and if nobody else, i'll cook up yer bois a hot hell in a casket.

I understand where you're coming from for most of the post but I have to disagree in this point. Someone could outclass a fellow fighter with a brilliant opening move, but this would be rare to happen for skilled characters to die instantly. At least for fiction. In real life it's way more likely someone would go down instantly unless it's unarmed combat and even then one good punch can instant ko someone.

Seems like too many generalisations and assumptions getting thrown about. If you feel unwelcome, it's because you've let yourself feel unwelcome, or because you've decided any one or two or even three people represent the whole arena. They don't.

RPGuild is not an alliance of some sort with a single core philosophy or particularly strong sense unity - we're just a melting pot full of different people with different outlooks, who all just happen to enjoy RP fighting and have settled down on the Guild at some point.

So yeah, dig deep enough and you'll probably find what you're looking for. Or maybe something you never knew you liked and needed.

Regardless, isolationism is only going to further deteriorate the RP fighting community as a whole. If we want new blood and a bigger, better, more exciting future for the craft, we gotta stick together. Nobody's going to interested in a form of roleplay that only remains living within a handful of self-containted cliques composed of two and a half people each; nor is such an existance going to be fun for the participants themselves.

Don't worry guys. It's not a loss at all if he leaves. The guy doesn't know how to play outside his comfort zone and prefers to degrade people if he is getting thoroughly trounced.

Wow, Josh. I'm disappointed in you. Thought you were better than throwing one time friends under the bus like this.

I don't know why that disappoints you, Rize. It's common Josh mentality. He'll turn on you in an instant if he thinks he has anything to be gained from doing it. I don't know why anyone expects him to actually be a decent human being. He's an autistic man-child.

THOUGH, to be fair, we all know where he learned this type of erratic, borderline down syndrome behavior.

I suppose I just like to think better of people. I guess that I just stand corrected in this case, disappointingly so.

Can we call the cue for the end of the drama now? Maybe take it backstage from here? If people are in mind to leave here and not come back, then do it. Poking around in spite of the resolve to wash your hands of this place, just to keep up a petty argument isn't helping you or any of the problems/adversities of the site.

As of now, i am more inclined to attribute this to miscommunication and simply poor luck. Aint enough hard evidence to make the opposite conclusion yet.

I only did the Lucha thing as a lark, but if you ever want to set up a match, Tasuke, I'd be more than happy to write with you.

Sure. Let me have a profile for the character(s) you'd want to use.

I'll use Hisame. The sheet is in the 2nd page of the tournament characters tab.

We can go from there.

I similarly look forward to writing with you.

I'd like to talk about these issues. Recently some new groups have been migrating to the Guild. It's worth noting that every group has its own little culture and style, and sometimes these cultures clash. It might be violent and fast, or slow and private, like the Cold War. But why do they clash? It actually goes very deep.
Every group has its set of veterans that want to make a strong impression. Sometimes this ambition for victory can override sense and/or compassion, and overall ruin the experience we're supposed to share. It's about enjoying how your lovingly made characters interact in interesting combat scenarios, and pulling off moves hatched from your own unique imagination. Winning is great and all, winning is the resolution, but it must not be all-encompassing. Fun and friendship take priority every time. We aren't fighting for our lives, or to prove some existential point. If you lose, you simply learn from the experience and avoid the same mistake again, have some more fun the next time.

I've seen this little competitive gist before. A refusal to bend, an unyielding belief that your culture is superior. It kills the spirit of the game. I know what it feels like to want to win badly. It's like a dull razor in the tissues of the heart, stressing you to avoid loss no matter what. The only thing that feeling will earn you is a messy debate.

I've been recently guilty of this in great severity, the sin of fighting out of anger. A textplay fight should never be started or finished in anger. Keep in mind how subjective and complex a form of gaming this is. It absolutely requires equal parts cooperation to be enjoyable, unless your idea of enjoyment is forcing a majority/judicial vote where your only prize is a pat on the back from your clique and a grudge from freshly made enemies.

Let's start over, huh? C'mon Lucha guys. Goofs were made, many of which were our fault. Now, let's broaden the definition of 'our' so it includes -everyone-. I apologize for all that's transpired here, so let's cease pointing fingers and sharpening egos, and start hugging it out. Forget everything that's just happened, blank slate time. Fuck favoritism and keeping reputations, fuck cliques. In the immortal words of Mills Lane, "Let's get it on!"

As an 'outsider', exactly - a few people don't represent the community. There are a number that I have quite nice conversations with and now that I'm back on shitty internet for the next few years (and now that I closed up one of my business ventures), look forward to continuing. If someone stresses me out, I just don't generally participate in matches or events with that person.

However, there definitely feels like there can be a big barrier to overcome that can feel not worth getting over if you have a bad experience. But, that is pretty typical for any differences in culture or style.

You don't know me, though you act as though you do. I'm more than willing to text punch you in the teeth if you want to, though. Nothing but bad blood between us, and I'll let it continue despite the fact we almost had a bonding moment not long ago. Also...what the fuck do I have to gain from alienating myself from literally the only RP group I've ever known or been with? When most are damn near like family to me now? Get your head out of your ass.

As for @AtlasRize and @DLL, I'll explain myself in private on our forums. No reason to keep this going here. The rest of you, sorry for this drama. I, at the very least, do enjoy some of the peeps I've met here and hope to meet most of you on the battlefield at some point.
