long story short I had a lot of other shit going on the last few weeks and I can't spare the time to sift through this huge of an OOC on the daily. because of that, I lost confidence in keeping up with the overarching plot, and am most likely going to be dropping participation. That entire movie completely undermines Batman's entire mission and philosophy. Like it's just such a slap in the to the previous two movies and all the comics it draws upon. If you're going to Knightfall, do Knightfall, don't half-ass adapt Knightfall, No Man's Land, Heir to the Demon and however many other winks, nods and aborted arcs you shoved into that movie. I know he didn't want to make a third, but don't make it so obvious.

Boy, this would be a bad time to admit that John Blake was one of the few things I unironically enjoyed in that film. I mean, sure, the explanation for how he figured out Batman's identity was whack, but I liked the idea that he figured it out; the idea that a young kid in Gotham -- and a young orphan at that -- would see through the thin disguise that always worked against "smarter" adults. And I liked the character of a young, idealistic cop who didn't know the whole truth about Gordon and thus couldn't understand the crusade against Batman.

I will grant that the "Robin" thing was horrendous fan service. Nor did the ending make any kind of sense, anyway. Bruce Wayne traveled the world and trained under fucking ninjas; Blake was just a cop. How the hell are those skills supposed to translate to being the next Batman?

(Otherwise, I'm totally with you that TDKR is a massive disappointment.)

But don't you see? A hero can be anybody. Even a man who does something as simple as putting a coat on a young boy's shoulders, letting him know the world hadn't ended.

We see through it literally 100% of the time. Gaslighting your audience when they figured out your flimsy twist isn't impressive.
