What Roleplay section do you mostly post in?

Right now, I'm trying to procrastinate on editing an essay and how the Guild socializes has always been particularly interesting to me anyway. So, denizens of the Guild, which section(s) would you say that you are most likely to Roleplay within and why? Do you feel that you are "welcomed" as a "member" within this section and/or sections? Would you feel comfortable writing in the other sections? Why or why not?

I'm an Advanced guy. Though I am not above High Casual, and I enjoy a Nation RP from time to time. Past few months I've really enjoyed the 1x1 section too. Took me awhile to find some good partners but still!

Probably the advanced section. I do a lot of 1x1 in PM but I never post to that section. As to the whys I generally prefer the pacing of the advanced section and I have friends from other sites who come here to 1x1 because RPGuild's PM system has features that we like.

Do you feel that you are "welcomed" as a "member" within this section and/or sections?

Sure. I've never felt unwelcome in any roleplaying section here. Everyone has always been friendly. Even the most combative section, Arena, welcomed me with open arms when I stuck my head in there.

Would you feel comfortable writing in the other sections? Why or why not?

I imagine I would feel comfortable writing in any section.

Casual and Casual alone. Odd as it may be but it is where I have been most comfortable and had the most success. I tried Advanced when I joined originally and found that there was a lot of attitude there as well as the Rp's moved slower than molasses in January. Granted that was years ago and I haven't stepped foot back there yet. Only reason now is just because I don't have time to. With the RP's I am currently hosting and all that jazz.

I tried Nation RP as well and while it was entertaining, it just wasn't all that to me. To each their own and ore power to those that enjoy it just wasn't my nitch as it were. With ARP and Nation, I will give them a go again one day but for now I am comfortable where I am. Casual for me just seems to be the right middle ground between the quality and quantity I am seeking.

Casual, mostly high casual. I enjoy it and sometimes advanced are somewhat tad too much in expecting set word counts and such advanced worlds and CS. I'm not quite there yet

I might give nation a go one day.

1X1 might be intresting but half I see are a wall of smut and thinly veiled smut at that!

I play in Advanced mostly, although I do foray into Nation, Casual and occasionally 1x1. Most sections have something to offer, but I generally look for is character development, a touch of realism, and a pace I can actually keep up with - generally speaking these three things I do not find in the Free section often, so I almost never go there. I feel welcome in any section I choose to write in, I would say Nation has a bit of reputation for being elitist (or at least used to), but its never been a problem for myself.

But honestly its not about the sections, its more about RPs individually. On the old guild the best RP I was ever in was in Casual, went on for years and had really good post standards and great players. It was well above the quality you'd expect of Advanced. So yeah, books and covers and all that.

Most my actual roleplaying has been on high casual, which basically just means advanced. A detailed post, without adding 1,000 boring words about a lamp and subsequently less chances for it to be riddled with spelling errors. So rarely is excessive length filled with quality and interesting things to read. I generally take it to mean 'want more exposition?' section. :P

I occasionally dabbled in free stuff, because it actually seemed to be more active than low casual at the time. I will probably be doing more 1x1 stuff when I'm not busy with other things.

In all honestly, I don't really think Advanced is any more or less welcoming than the other sections. I also don't think it's different in any other way either. Activity, Post Quality, Using Spellcheck. GM Rules, Co-Gm's knowledge. Friendly OOC Discussions. It doesn't really vary from my experiences/browsing it. I'd say everything is probably equal, the only differences is just how long the actual posts are...

Haven't ever seen Nation/Arena really grab at me, but I'm sure the same thing applies.

No but seriously I'm mainly in casual, will occasionally do a low-advanced and they turn out really well. Never once encountered an 'elitist' attitude in advanced ever, I've seen more of that in the 1x1 section then anywhere else.

Haven't had a chance to Tabletop or Nation but I really do want to get around to it.

on the rare occasions that i do roleplay, i tend to join casual roleplays. of course now i lean towards advanced, but a majority of the roleplays i join are still in the casual subforum, so. i don't exactly feel welcome there, anymore, though.

I tend to lean towards casual exclusively, not including 1x1 arrangements. Advanced never suited my fancy, free is too fast and not to my tastes.

PM box is really the section I frequent most for anything real these days, though.

Nation was great 'till I became a total pessimist about the fact that the only roleplays I liked on there ended up dying very quickly, and the roleplays that survive tend to be ones I wouldn't be inclined to join anyways.

Arena, not to my style, same with tabletop.

Every roleplay on this forum that I have joined or hosted has been in the casual section. I don't join roleplays very often, as few people can keep them going for more than a month. However, the reason why I chose casual is because it seems like it's more active. There are no silly word requirements, and people seem more eager to post. attitudes are more relaxed. I like casual because it's just that, casual. I've never considered free. I like grammar, and the posting speeds are way too fast for me.

As for the specialty sections, I have some interest in some of them. A forum based tabletop game probably couldn't hold my interest. the real life ones move so much faster, and even they bore me from time to time. I prefer to write about characters instead of groups of people, so I don't see myself entering Nation. Arena could be fun, I read some of the fights. But I still don't believe in competitions via written word. It just seems like it's too easy to power game. Might be fun with someone you know/respect/etc however. I have wanted to try in the past. 1x1, again, might be fun if I knew someone and was in the mood for it. But starting an RP like that with a stranger is not to my liking.

As for how I'm treated, I actually feel respected wherever I go. My ability to GM roleplays is respected by long standing members, despite my short time here. There's really no spot on the forum where I'm afraid to post.

Casual and Advanced.
Casual is where I started and it has always been a section that allows you to join without too much difficulty, and with little requirement. Advanced on the otherhand is slower and longer in post length, which I like, but tends to have a lower success rate in commitment. Most advanced RPs I joined die die to inactivity; most casuals seem to die from lack of direction or inexperience. May not be in all cases but that's the trend I experienced.

In those sections I feel welcomed and haven't had too many problems. Few RPs I felt like I was ignored and a few members burned me by removing work I added to collabs or pushing me out of the RP by not acknowledging my character, but on the whole I'm happy.

Tabletop, free, arena, and NRP are sections I don't join. Tabletop doesn't really interest me, free is too basic and feels unrewarding, arena feels like it's too set on the fight while I'm more interested in writing the character experienced, and NRPs just have a different writing style where I feel I don't get the right character interaction. There's nothing against these sections but they're not for me.

I act almost exclusively in the capacity of what is considered "casual" now, given the general advanced section as a whole as what I have come to experience as a relatively unrealistic set of expectations. I fall into that unofficial limbo of "high casual", largely because I write at an advanced level, or so I prefer to think, but haven't the patience, time, or really the interest. I do not enjoy sitting down and feeling obligated to write extensively just for the sake of doing it, as I either channel the emotion and moment or I do not. Feigning it results in a degradation of quality, which feels almost demoralizing at times due to the depths it can drag one's artistic muse. This is to ignore the general "expectations" of the advanced section of course.

Short of relegating myself to "casual" status, I spend a great amount of time in the tabletop section because I find that so many roleplays are... well, rather lacking. My particular tastes in genre are anything but fandoms, anime, or schools, not just because I relate nothing at all to any of these, but because they are so prevalent. People are free to enjoy them, but they rub the fur the wrong way. Call me an elitist if you will, as it would not be the first or even the last. I digress too much, thus my real point is that the tabletop section fills a void I find myself in and a continued, perpetual cycle of personal disappointment. As example, I might see a topic that is potentially intriguing, but some half way in, if not at times the first sentence itself, am struck with the core sensation my take and persona would not meld well with it; a portion of this having to do with the fact everyone seems to be obsessing over the epic or exceptional, where whole worlds are always in chaos or where, in science fiction notably, the suspension of disbelief is absolutely derailed by outright impossibility.

I myself write from a lineage of "savage fantasy", having started in science fiction though later abandoning it because it became so cluttered with cliche and obsessed over the technological and mechanical aspects. That and the whole general escalation of stories to the grand rather than the heroic.

I drift pretty evenly between advanced and casual – though sometimes finding a game I like with the amount of detail and design I want can be quite difficult. I tend to start my own games (and too many of them), but at this point I think I mostly look at games my friends are interested in.

Most of my time spent on RPG has been within the casual section. I find that it exists as the perfect blend I'm looking for. It's hard to explain, but I view it this way: Advanced in writing, but Free in requirements. I can go into great detail in my posts, mainly because my RPs are lax enough to allow an even pace without burning myself out on RP.

Do you feel that you are "welcomed" as a "member" within this section and/or sections?

I feel welcomed a hundred percent. My longest running RP is from the Casual section, where I met a number of interesting and helpful individuals. While we've had hiccups in the past, I've already stated my appreciation for them here and here to thank them for helping me with everything they've done to support me. Other than that, I don't think I've managed to tick off anyone yet to the point where they dislike me, so I suppose that's great too.

Would you feel comfortable writing in the other sections? Why or why not?

Honestly depends. Get me a decent RP idea, sure, but I tend to write casual in the free section when I do. I struggle writing short responses of one to two sentences in a RP, to be honest, so my free section posts tend to be short yet chunky in detail.

Maybe, maybe if I had the time. I've thought about joining an advanced RP, but I just end up joining a ton of causal RPs and never have time to deal with the length and detail of most advanced RPs. Additionally, I don't really see much variation in the advanced section from military, scifi, fantasy or medieval. It's always some combination of those, and not always what I'm looking for.

The idea of an arena RP sounds interesting, but not enough for myself. Seeing two or more people have this "super awesome battle to the death" is cool and all, but I'm someone who likes story fluctuated with combat. I just can't seem to get into the idea of straight battle royale or gladiator fights in the colosseum.

I do, occasionally, dabble in the 1x1 section. However, most 1x1 checks are focused on romance and smut more than I wish, which is why I'm happy that I found 1x1 partners interested in focusing on the RP more so than the kinks or "kicking it off."

My opinion on Nation RPs is similar to my opinion on Arena RPs. I like the idea of massive trench warfare, or epic space operas created by navies battling in space, but controlling everything at once sounds complicated. I'm one of those people who like controlling just one, maybe two characters, otherwise everything begins to go downhill if I don't pay attention.

I have 12K+ hours on Roll20, and would love to explore more of the tabletop section as I enjoy RPGs, yet so far every campaign I join/create has died quickly. I do wish the section had more interest than it has now. Other than the campaigns already established, it is a relatively quiet subsection.

a) Which section are you most likely to roleplay within and why?

The realistic answer is casual. From my posting history, it is evident I am mostly around casual. But the real section I'd prefer to play in is advanced. I have a penchant for long, thought out posts with good literary use of interesting words - not word vomit, but actual thought out replies with fitting word usage - and I know I am more than capable of delivering precisely that.

Do you feel you are welcomed as a member within this section?

No, because casual has no 'membership'. I recognize names left and right and I know a LOT of people, but I know them OOC and most of them I haven't RPed with. Also, casual is so large, that even if 1 group welcomes me, the next might not. Advanced, I do feel welcomed in, but again, same issue. I don't feel like there's a lot of cohesion.

Would you feel comfortable writing in other sections? Why, why not?

Free probably not. Mostly because I don't like writing there. It's probably less about comfortable and more about desire to RP there. I feel mildly uncomfortable receiving one liner responses and physically rear at 2-3 paragraph posts. So, perhaps it makes me slightly uncomfortable but ... I don't really see why it's my place to judge them. (Doesn't mean I don't judge, just that when push comes to shove, if all they are doing is having fun, I don't see the harm.)

1x1, I do 1x1 from time to time. Typically it doesn't interest me a lot anymore. Partners are never what I expect and 'advanced' writer means something much MUCH different in 1x1 than it does in my mind. Comfortable, yes, but no desire to continue looking there for RP's.

Nation - yes. I like it. They die too quickly though.

Arena - no. I don't have the time anymore to reply to a fight daily, and I frankly find the people in there atrocious.

Tabletop - probably not. I like the idea of it but the execution is always so poor.

Advanced & Casual
I write with Advanced Standards. I prefer the Advanced Roleplay section; to write with authors who's writing skills are at parity with my own. Often, I find there are few Advanced Roleplays available I am interested in, which forces me to join Casual Roleplays. Unfortunately, I have a difficult time maintaining the brevity required for the casual setting. I try to gauge the group as to how much content they produce for my own purpose. I do not want to frighten anyone away.

I love Nation Role Plays, but haven't found a decent one on this forum in about three or four years. The last one I was really interested in was HeySeuss' Mutually Assured Destruction. In fact, in that particular role play I once made a post that encompassed eight pages of text on MS Word (12pt., Times New Roman). It contained 55 paragraphs. But I was addressing five separate issues and one section was a Collaboration with one of the other writers.

I rarely get into 1x1s, but know I would excel there. I find many folks are interested in Romance, which is a topic I never explicitly say I am interested in. However, I have seen a romance evolve when it was unintended. Since military themed role plays are always my favorite, I would be interested in a 1x1 where my partner and I write as several different characters including NPCs who are embroiled in some yet to be conceived conflict.

I truly don't have a whole lot of time to commit to this hobby and end up writing in only two or three at a time.
