PROLOGUE: New Friends and Old Tricks

Little Valhalla was as grand as the gods themselves. The ultra exclusive restaurant had often come up as the as a talking point for newbie adventurers. After all, the building stood out as a marvel of construction compared to its surroundings. Even though the district it resided within was collectively known as 'the rich district,' Little Valhalla stood out. The outside of the building was a skillful mixture of both the baroque and the traditional. Constructed purely out of wood that was foreign to Orario, the ornate carvings that covered each plank and log had been further amplified by a foreign mystique. But to most adventurers, the architectural and artistic merit of the building had very little to do with what people spoke of it.

What was important were the regulars.

Consisting entirely of second and first class adventurers of those inside and outside the Odin familia, one needed to be invited directly to participate in the banquets by the miserly god. Well, not directly in the sense of him meeting you face to face to invite you. No, Odin was much too busy of a man for that. Instead, he got one of his employees of Little Valhalla to directly invite you. Valkyrja, he called them. To get invited to the restaurant was a great privilege reserved for only the strongest adventurers. For anyone who was under level 4 to be invited was an impossibility.

And for some reason, a small selection of level 1 adventurers had been invited to join the great feast this evening.

The great door of Little Valhalla awaited those who had been invited. Constructed out of what seemed to be a single piece of wood, it was larger than any tree one may have known. Just as intricate as the rest of the building, it was carved with hundreds of bands that twisted and overlapped with each other. Each band took the form of a monster in the dungeon, almost all of which were unknown to level 1 adventurers. Outside of the door stood a warm looking woman. Well, warm in the sense of being physically cold. Draped over her head and body were dozens of layers of a thin, translucent fabric. With all of them stacked together, her womanly form had turned into an indeterminate blob of white. It was impossible to tell who was under all of those cloths. Upon seeing one of the novice adventurers arrive at the entrance, she would reach through the fabrics with one arm and push open one of the massive doors.

Instantly, the warm air would envelop those newbie adventurers. The wonderful smell of ale, mead, beer, wine, meat, and spices instantly beckoned them inside. The only light came from a mixture of cleanly burning pyres and torches, giving the inside a dimly lit and warm atmosphere. The inside was just as ornate as outside. Thick red rugs formed a path inside of the restaurant reaching each and every table, but not to the extent that it could be called a carpet. The rugs also retained an almost infinite amount of fluff. Each barefoot step was as though you were stepping on clouds. For the more rugged adventurers, the stone tiles gave an uneven yet satisfying feel, massaging their weary muscles every step on the way. Some of the regulars had even given up the self control required to wear shoes, haphazardly tossing their shoes wherever they saw fit.

Every single bit of Little Valhalla was a testament of his wealth and power. Alternatively, it was a show of how big Odin's dick was.

The newcomers were not expected by most, however. Most of the regular patrons looked at the novices in one of two ways. Either they had a look of confusion on why these intruders had entered their sanctuary, or they cheered the novices on as they must have been special. Besides the occasional hollers of those enjoying their flagons of mead and legs of meat, the patrons mostly kept to themselves. One, however, didn't. Standing in the centre of the restaurant was a short-haired woman with stars in her slate eyes. Her outfit was modest, at least compared to some of the other adventurers in the room. After all, she wore a thick wool sweater that covered her neck, shorts, and kneesocks that covered most of her legs. In her hands was a thick black book with silver decorations for both aesthetics and to protect the book's binding. She was familiar to some. Mostly known by massive nerds, though. Some novice adventurers would have remembered seeing someone exactly like her in the first few levels, brutally tormenting and eviscerating monsters as she wrote notes in the book.

As the novice adventurers arrived one by one, she greeted them.

"Ah," she said as a restrained smile appeared on her face, "you must be one of the guests of honour this fine evening? I'm sure your god may have told you some information about this before hand. Well, maybe. Some of them are... Not the most reliable?" A wince came over her face when she politely insulted a few of them. "I'm sure that you have plenty of questions, and I would be honoured to answer any of them! I'm sure that some of the other adventurers here would be glad to answer any question you may have. Odin will arrive here shortly after the rest of you arrive. He's always been one for efficiency," she paused. A quizzical look began to form, "well that and he's also a jerk. In the mean time, feel free to order anything your heart desires from one of the valkyrja. Enjoy your time you have here!"
Disaster struck. Try as they could, but they didn't have the cohesion, preparation, or knowledge of the world in order to prepare for what was coming. The mage, who had been silent for only a brief moment, had seemed to make themselves an easy target. How wrong all of them were. That entire time, it had been casting whatever brutal incantation which allowed it to summon forth tendrils of ice. Maybe it was preparations coming into fruition, maybe it was the final will of an indomitable spirit. They had taken Gwyn and Matteo, freezing them over. Ettamri was also afflicted, with ice crawling up her leg.

It was an insurmountable wall. Every time Ash fought, she found the enemy to be obscene, yet still close. There bear was just that; a bear. One could fell a bear if they had the proper preparations. There were the goblins, which Ash had barely been able to fight on equal terms. Then, the toad. Ash did her duty of helping blind the beast and, with Ettamri, everything seemed possible. Ash had even managed to protect herself from the skeleton with a sword.

But this was on a different level.

Her patron god, Kur-Inuus, looked after the eternal cycle. What was Ash even thinking about now? Really, the fragrant disrespect for the cycles had reminded Ash of it. The beast-god that presided over all cycles. Drought and flood, summer and winter, but most important was that of life and death. For the skeleton to freely change seasons and to exist outside of the cycle of life and death was surely a great sin. It fragrantly disrespected everything about the natural order.

Her companions were frozen, battered, and fighting in order to stay alive, but Ash was only a regular human. She wasn't the favoured child of the beast-god. Favoured meal of the man-eating bear, maybe. The great silver wolf who had watched over them that night, but Ash hadn't seen the silver wolves since. Not that she was greedy for the god's favour. No, she simply wanted to live. Anything to live.

She ran and prayed, each step disoriented as the cold bit at her and her mind was unable to cope with the blood loss.

And for the first time, she cried.
It worked. Not well, but it worked. Her brainless attempt at defense had at least saved Gwyn from being finished off. It had given her enough time for the masked healer to purge the undead menace, even if it was after she had lost a finger. But what mattered was living. She lived through a brazen onslaught of bone and steel long enough for most of her wounds to be healed. Broken ribs, shattered knuckles, and the assortment of cuts from catching the blade alongside the catching of flesh from the armoured strikes had all been mended by a purifying light. While still pained from the event, she could stand. That meant she could move. That meant she could live on.

Gwyn had reprimanded her for her risk taking. Catching the blade, surely a master could do it reliably. But Ash wasn't a master. No, she was less than a newbie. The fact that she caught the blade at only the cost of some blood and her now removed finger on the ice was a miracle. If she had been smart, more experienced, and knew how to fight on the ice, she could possibly have distracted the knight with a single strike and backed off. Then she could leap in to take another blow, just in case Gwyn was unable to prepare in time. That was hindsight, though. Useless hindsight.

She could have just ran, but allowing the healer to perish was pretty much putting Ash up the creek without a paddle. Would she even be able to return alone? She... didn't know. To Gwyn, who had presumably just wanted Ash to be safe, Ash nodded in response.

Surprisingly, it hurt much less than she thought it would. Sure, it was hard to hear things now. Not because her ears were damaged, no. Her mind was just unable to properly process things to their full extent. Her vision was also fallible. She could make out the locations of everyone and everything, but the small details were a struggle. The ice seemed to blend together into a incohesive mess of both black and constantly shifting colour.

But now wasn't the time to dwell on the small things.

Ettamri had reduced the numbers by one and so did Gwyn. There was only two left. The mage and the axe warrior that Muu had to deal with. In terms of priority, Muu just had to stay alive. That much was a given. The mage, however, was a long term threat. A mage could turn the tides of the battle, so getting rid of it was a priority. Ash, rather than grabbing her machete, took the skeleton's sword. If it could take the machete blow for blow, it was certainly better as a weapon. Ash's experience using the machete wasn't even the most useful.

And she walked. Not away, but towards the mage. If the mage went to attack her with some sort of spell, she would just fall to the side and roll. It was hard to move on ice and she was woozy, but she could still get the basic motions down. Rolling was easy to do. She wasn't a hero. She wasn't going to brainlessly fight again. She would act as a guard for both Gwyn and herself this time around, fleeing as best as she could if things went wrong. Neither one would fall.

But she did miss that finger.
Yea. Pretty much the main issue was trying to figure out what would happen if a knife stabbed directly into someone. Would the wound still be shared?

Back to the original design of it, but it's just super weak to getting stabbed. That's probably the easiest way for me to not get my brain blasted.

HERE'S A DISCORD IN CASE YOU WANT FASTER RESPONSES :DAB:

discord.gg/k7p8HxZ
Hm'st've.

Ye, you're right on that. And I think I kinda brain blasted myself in my own explanation. I think what you're saying makes sense, but the big (it's actually like, super small) issue is 'what happens if the target is stabbed and they leave the pointy end inside?'

So this would be about the thematics about how the ability would work, not the mechanics. NGL, I actually forgot that the word 'thematics' existed. BEEN A LONG DAY. I'm now thinking that if the target gets stabbed and it would be enough to basically breach the combined defense, it would basically demolish both of their health. Target would still get stabbed and Kori would eat the full bit of damage. She'd basically be a tank weak to pierce, which is a pretty standard affair in RPGs.
Imagine not capitalizing the 'E' in 'ERode'.

you get it when i deem you worthy of being big 'E' Rode

And a question to everyone: Discord, yay or nay.
Alright, decision time.

As a foreword, I'd like to thank everyone for their interest, characters, and effort they put towards this RP so far. Unfortunately, I'm not a capable enough GM to handle as many people as I like. Therefore, I am only accepting 5 people. I would really just like to say to those who are unable to make it in that I still enjoyed your characters. If I had the ability to accept all of you, I would have. If people drop/ghost, y'all will be the first I'll message to refill the ranks.

As always, if you want to contest me on a thematic ruling or something along those lines, just holla at me. Send me a PM or let it be known on the OOC. I'm open to everything and teamwork makes the dream work.

So without any further ado, the characters which will form the basis of the party (and a few comments both meta and review):

Squad mom is our lawful good paladin. Everyone party needs one. Don't @ me.

Now, because of how thematically weird and situational sharing wounds are, I'll probably have to state how I believe this ability should work. There's a bunch of weird bad logic bits with sharing wounds/taking damage from the target, so I think I managed a way to make it mechanically sound. By forming your connection, your durability and the target's durability would combine and you'd share all damage. Wounds would be lessened, but you'd share in the same wounds. This is to solve the conundrum of what happens if you get stabbed and the object stays lodged in. A higher durability would make it so that the object would have a harder time piercing.

Well, I don't need to beat you up for posting your character in the CHAR tab. ggwp. Ya boi is a great addition considering how his lackadaisical nature and constant no-reason-lying make for a good addition.

Don't really have much to say in terms of the little things, considering you ain't got no magic and your only skill is good.

Oben is a pretty interesting character with the carefree happiness hiding his TRUE and INNER DARKNESS.

This is kinda fucked but like, I'm making another change to the skill. You don't actually have to write everything since I'm dealing with the skills and magic and stuff from now on, but with the addition of two people with last hit abilities, one has to get cut. The one that has to change is Oben's, unfortunately. This is because of the difference between Grim and Oben. Grim's last hit ability is pure flavour. It increases her strength gain, but doesn't change the overarching narrative. Oben's can, as some rare drops are bound to be ridiculous. This means I'm adding this little line:

Oben and his party has a chance to acquire rare loot if he lands the last blow on his enemies

This is to stop last hit fighting in the party, which would make writing fights a lot easier. Now, you gotta only fight with one person for last hits instead of two.

Everyone's favourite genetic freak, Castor brings a lot of confidence to the party. He can butt heads with Grim but still rely on squad mom because he's a big ol' awkward bool.

Not really much to say anymore on thematic flavouring/rulings, since they're all fine as is.

Buff brat makes for a great foil with the other characters. Really like what you've done. Funnily enough, you managed to make fun of Danmachi unintentionally with the super redonk armour. also fuck it's weird because odin is a character and you just made it weird because now wtf 2 odin

Not much to say on any of the lil' rulings.

This is an important bit. When you put your character in the CHAR tab, just put the top half of your CS sheet. The god CS was primarily for me and I'm updating the stats. This means that your CS be composed of your image and your name down to the backstory. It's not actually like, that important since you can edit it later and I'm still going to keep track of it all myself.
b-but i want my big PP daddy Ares to be canon in this RP ;_;

but eh sure, i'll tone it down on Pen's skill and backstory, downgrading her into a basic amazonian chick. Also do i have to submit a god too? i feel like the number of Gods outweighs the number of adventurers if each player creates one.

Which is why I'm controlling them for most of the time. Gods are more of a backdrop than a main plot point for this. The RP is focusing on dungeoning and the growth of your characters, after all. Each scene won't be filled with like, 20 gods though. This is just so you can have your hot divine mom/dad interact with you in private seshes.

Necessary changes have been made to my CS. My apologies, I think I might have misunderstood at the beginning. I ended up using a god that appeared in canon, even though the only thing they share is probably the namesake. Please tell me if that's alright.

Yea, that's a-okay. I'm fine with people sharing the basis of a god with canon, just not the canon characters themselves.
This is the.... parararararata!

PRELIMINARY REVIEW!

Note that this is just to get you a heads up on the little things. It's going to focus mostly on the thematic fixing and minor ability changes and will probably have only a microscopic effect on me actually accepting characters tomorrow. After all, considering characters based on little thematic flavourings instead of the character personality and junk themselves is kind of weird. Don't feel the need to fix all of this within 24 hours or however long you read all of this kind of stuff! This will have practically no bearing on your character. Going to reiterate this point. Fixing the lil' things I say in this will have very little effect on who's picked for the maximum good-vibes party comp. Though, I'd still want it all to be fixed by the IC release (IF YE DARE GET ACCEPTED)

Now, if I missed you (I DON'T THINK I DID?), ping me and I'll go hard. If I myself get the Danmachi lore wrong, holla at me. My memory is permafucked and some sources aren't as reliable.

And without further ado: my bizarre and terrible way with words!

@Vox
Just because I'm doing everyone, I gotta felate you again and say that it's thematically perfect. Don't let it get to your head, or I'll call you stinky to lower your ego.

@RC3
Marigold is mostly thematically fine. If you like, wanted the race to be Giant, I'd be fine with it. It's thematically in tune with the universe. But it's not a big problem if they're a human. After all, there's a 5'11" dwarf in Danmachi so being the Danmachi equivalent of Scott Steiner. Be a giant race if you want, or continue to be a human. Either way is fine.

@Renny
straight up you gotta add "has a chance" to diafanís tychí. Having constant rare drops is a bit too wild for me to deal with. Besides that, some lore fixes: Gods don't have human lives in Danmachi. They're still gods; they've just descended from heaven.

@eRode
Same deal as Vox. I legally can't tell you it's good lore-wise or else I gotta insult you to keep your ego in check.

also i didn't make thoth a thot because smell my socks nerd :dab:

@Argonaut
A bit too many skills, I would say. All of them are pretty strong, too. I'd honestly suggest on cutting one and weakening another, but eh. The backstory is pretty wrong, though. I'm avoiding like, 95% of the canon story so Ares probably won't be in this incarnation where he constantly invades Orario to prove he has big weenie. Plus gods can't have children.

@Barioth
He's a god damn genetic freak with weird long arms. Which is a top notch choice, beeteedubs. I'd say that Sanguinem Ludo really wouldn't be a rare skill because 1) it's not really that strong, and 2) one-on-one boost wouldn't really be that rare. Comedically enough, Inspirante would probably be rare because most mind fatigue related stuff is all passive regen or regen after casting spells.

@Spectral
I'd probably end up slightly changing the spells because the vast majority of magic requires chants. Name convention is a tiny bit out of flavour, but that's because Danmachi spells range from foreign language to weird chuuni shit 99% of the time. I would probably just help fix the magic where you to be accepted tomorrow.

@Odin
is kanabo in vogue or something? In regards to the skill—thank god I'm not counting numbers, being skill accountant is lame is heck. You'd still have a higher STR gain that everyone else though. Basically, it's the perfect flavour town ability.

Now here's a tiny thing just going forwards. The gods in Danmachi are undeniably human-looking. They have pretty skin and banger hair, but they're human. I recognize that the author has made this decision, but given it's a stupid ass decision, I've elected to ignore it. Having gods that look not as human is fuckin a-okay and there's very little reason why not to have it.

Gods are also weak as fuck while they're on not!Earthrealm so her entire killing persona is going to be directed on the private property of other people and gods. Maybe she can get a fly or two, but even a level 1 adventurer with garbage stats could beat her in a fight. Not that they would ever fight her; fighting gods = perma fucked in the afterlife. This is more of a heads up.

Also, if you think that character concept might be a bit too small-brained, you really do live on a peak above us all. I've seriously written a character that was literally a massive head with arms and legs attached in a monster girl RP. A monster girl RP. I'm literally the dumbest motherfucker in existence, all characters are serious to me.

So in conclusion:

YA BOI'S GOOD.

Don't actually why I wrote so much when nothing's wrong.

@BeefJerky
Same kinda stuff about gods from above applied here. Non-human gods are cool.

The god is def. a bit of a problem, though. Every single god in Danmachi is based on an actual god. From what I can tell, there's really no ancient god named Moth who acted as ye olde travel agent. It's also a bit weird because in the Danmachi mythos, people don't really pray to the gods, though. Pretty sure about it, anyways. Not sure if wishing to date a big-chested loli legally counts as praying. He also doesn't really seem like the sort that would actually devote his time to helping a gang of good guy gods with realpolitik, on account of the fact that he's a weird schizoid.
Fuck, I knew I forgot something
