A long dream of nothing. It felt as though ages had passed, though you did not know if those ages comprised of mere moments or eons. But it was a long and dreadful nothing--one that you preferred to not experience.

Something wrested you from this nothing.

The cold stone floor greeted you. It was as if you always have been--though, you did not possess any memories before this moment. It was quite a simple place that you had found yourself in. It was some kind of cavern--one that was without a doubt unnatural. The floor and walls were simple, yet too perfect to have been carved by both nature or one's hands. A stable and sterile light came from sconces on the wall--not a flicker of flame could be seen.

Some kind of childish doodles were scribed on the wall with chalk.

In the centre of the room was a warm red crystal that floated above a simple stone pedestal. It was the size of a common man. In front of the pedestal was a long scroll that had bent and folded into itself, forming quite a large and unkempt pile. It seemed to breath, expanding and contracting but only slightly.

On the opposite end was the entry to a hall, though it was considerably darker as light failed to penetrate more than a short walk within.

Around you were 6-ish other figures of differing shapes and sizes. You could tell that they were dissimilar, yet they were fundamentally in the same position as you.

In the corner of the room was a single skeleton wearing a large set of robes.

"H-huh?" A confused voice exclaimed. Was it one of the others? No, it came from the crystal. Or at least something nearby. The scroll pile bounced and shuffled.

"That can't be right... but...?"

Rapidly, a stream of paper flew out of the pile as if being ejected by a force within. Just as quickly as it began, it stopped--the length of paper descending across the floor.

For a brief moment, there was silence.

A figure popped out of the pile of scrolls. It was some kind of exhausted, furry, well-groomed, and well-dressed beast.

"Welcome to your new dungeon, master...s?" The beast yelled out with a mix of confusion and surprising vigor.

"Now if you turn to your right," she said as they quickly stumbled out of the pile of scrolls, tripping as they ran towards the wall with childish drawings on it.

"Your goal is to protect this dungeon! Now why? That's because adventurers are going to be coming to break the core! And if they do, that means the end of all of us! Now how? By beating up the adventurers! But we're all weak right now, which means we have to rely on stewarding this dungeon to protect us too! It's kind of a fun little symbiotic relationship! When an adventurer gets defeated, that means the dungeon gets stronger as a little bit of their experience gets sucked up! But oh no! The gods love adventurers and heroes! That means that they get to be revived! Which means they're coming straight back to this dungeon! And when a hero beats up our monsters, they get experience and get... stronger! But that also means get... we get more points for beating up stronger adventurers! What do we use these p... points for? To expand the dungeon, get stronger, and get... c-cool things like equipment and materials!"

It became exceedingly obvious that by the end of this speech, the beast had lost her steam as they wheezed and held onto the wall to balance themselves. She took a few seconds to catch their breath.

"Why... why don't we start by introducing ourselves? I'm your... your dungeon spirit. I'm here to help manage your dungeon," she started, only to instead begin huffing in exhaustion. "Why don't you... start with your name, where you're from, and two truths and a lie about past..."

The dungeon spirit shook her head.

"Wait... Right... This hasn't happened before. Uh. Don't share those. You don't have them. Give me your name, and..." They paused to think about what she could ask. "What you'd like my name to be! Yea! I need one of those too!"

Current Goal:
Name your dungeon spirit

New Units:
???: 4* Dungeon Spirit

New Possessions:

So who is running the sister dungeon/thread?

Expendable threw up another interest check, if you're interested in it.

roleplayerguild.com/topics/195995-dun…
Anyway, hope the stream went well for you out there, chief. Also, I saw that some of the earlier birds got sorted out. Will I get selected too if I were to apply for a character?

Probably not. The deadline was yesterday and I'm already at capacity (the original was planned to be a 3-4 character romp).
So the pull stream is over.

It didn't go well, but I did cap out and get all 7 copies.

Anyways, the cast for the RP.

You 8 please post your characters in the char tab.

IC will be, barring act of gods, either Friday or Saturday.

If your name wasn't listed, you'll be kept on the waiting list (unless you tell me otherwise) when I feel I can add you if you're still interested. Thanks for your interest.
Ah, alright. So we can’t be a mere mortal with powers, then? Lol. But what about half-human, half-monster. Is it acceptable?

Nobody can be true human or a half. Monsters can't with the non-monster races. I'm rather against having half-monsters because I would prefer to keep the future as something like witch + deep sea creature = sahuagin for the purpose of mechanics rather than doing half measures. Generally, if I can't give them a species name, they won't exist.

That doesn't mean that someone can't be aesthetically or effectively human. If you want to play a more humanized orc, that's fine. I also don't mind if people humanize concepts (IE, oni ranges from cutie with horns to giant red/blue behemoth of muscle--I don't care where on the spectrum that's placed).

If someone wants to be a human-ish character, they'd either do something like be a human adjacent monster (see: witch, vampire) or have some phenotype/variant ala calling them something like Evil Human.

The typically "good" fantasy races (see: humans, beastmen, elves, dwarves, etc) are completely locked. Evil variants of them are allowed (see: witch, beastmen (evil), dark elves, duergar).

Do be warned I am closing up shop in like 20 hours or so. Exact time is arbitrary because I have my nightmare gacha pull stream for GFL2 that day and must entertain californian fighting game players--no idea how long the stream is going to take since i'm full spending an account that's mostly saved since launch.

Fourteen of them by my count (._.')

What's funny is that I posted the interest check with the small group tag with the express intent of 3-4 people.

So, @Burger, Those that aren't picked, do we get a sister dungeon? XD

If someone wants to crib the idea and run a sister dungeon, I won't stop them.
Ok, Burger, but what if I designed a little system for gacha pulling? ;3

I prefer to have all of my systems as a magic black box so people don't get to peep the horror inside.
@Lugubrious Burger did offhandedly mention we might be able to play as NPCs.

<Snipped quote>

<Snipped quote>

Guess we'll have to wait for an elaboration on that.

Generally, you can control NPCs for trivial matters like conversations and the ilk. Mooks are a 100% you can write whatever as long as it's not of shattering import. Mooks are more like a... package deal? They're basically a group of which I will write the group's mood/alignment/status/etc, while you can use an individual for whatever. For reasons, they'll be more of a revolving door so I'm not exactly bothered about people controlling individuals for non-critical matters.

Named units/bosses are more on the only trivial side under most circumstances. If you get authority of them (see: get everyone else to agree to you having sole control of them), you can run them and do whatever you want. Or you can designate me as resident writing slave and have me still control them. Either or. Your control over NPCs basically functionally matches the rights and authorities your character has.

And an aside about NPCs--I'm not going to take requests for a gacha pool because that's too much record keeping for what I plan for this RP to be. Probably the solution is the ever classic pulling of a selection ticket, where you just get to write it in. That's probably for the better since then you lot have to argue about selection tickets and I find that funny.

@Burger
I asked about the "how long" have we been summond-deal earleir.

How much do our characters know about each other at the start? Like... Do we know what race each other "boss" is, straight out of the gate? Do we know their name? Their titles? Can our characters distinguish between "important" monsters and gacha-mooks just by looking?

Or are you going with the whole, first day at the office with a fresh batch of new-hires who've never met or seen each other before?

>Race?

For the most part, you understand. You might not have the greatest inkling of what that race exactly entails (especially for the rare/esoteric ones), but you have an innate understanding of the general vibe and requirements of that race. IE, you fundamentally know that a goblin exists and a clean, academic goblin is quite rare. You know that a golem won't really be able to eat a steak.

>Name/title?

No.

>Difference between boss and mook?

Yea. Mooks just have the aura of a henchman of a janitor, peon, or just like someone in a high vis vest. Bosses/named units that you will pull for have their own aura of seeing a middle manager. All of you have the same "dungeon owner" aura of seeing someone on the board of directors.

>Or are you going with the whole, first day at the office with a fresh batch of new-hires who've never met or seen each other before?

Mostly this because I have a bit I am legally obligated to write for this..
<Snipped quote by Burger>

Alright, good to know. By the way, were there any problems with the suggested renovations? @BrokenPromise pointed out that the number of illusory walls could raise costs in dungeon points. How much would they factor into renovation costs? On that note, will we get a list for how much different types of rooms, passages and dungeon elements cost dungeon points, or will it be more freeform/gacha pull?

Keep floor 1 to one entrance for now.

You get two illusory walls for free (legally obligated mascot's ability).

So I don't have to prefab a ton of components, it's more free-form. You don't have the workers yet, so any change to the floor plan will cost dungeon points instead of time. I haven't costed it out yet, but a full floor like that could not be sufficient with the starting funds (nor should you spend everything on landscaping--you'd brick your dungeon). Dungeon elements will be mostly gacha or built out of materials via pitch.
Dungeon F1 proposal

I kept the map to under 26 rows, as that was how much was in the WIP map. However, if that turns out to have been a mistake and the map should be smaller, then my apologies.

Floors aren't actually size limited. I just thought that 26 was a nice number to make a square with.

<Snipped quote by Xaltwind>

And I realized last night ERode has a goblin already. Hmmm. Is it a problem if there's two? Or should I try for something else?

I'm not going penalize people for running the same race.
