Back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, I got started with writing online on the Spore forums. Man, those were the days. We're talking like 12 years ago 2010-ish!

I've been here on and off for almost as long, and have GM'd a bunch of different things to varying success.

The White Giants seem to be a close match for the Ashlings. They work, but they'll need some help if they want to succeed in the long run.

Zephyrion is making air elementals. Teknall will be making earth elementals. Basically, they'll be magical constructs/creatures of stone and earth. They were originally going to be something like golems or galeb duhr, but I figured that Slough would eventually make living stone creatures when she passes through Teknall's territory, so why go for simple stone creatures? Give them earth magic, to let them glide through solid earth and stuff. I eventually realised that what I was basically making was an earth elemental.

They will still be very different to the air elementals in pretty much all regards. And I'll probably also pick a cooler name, with earth elemental being an alternative/common name.

Air elementals are going to be what he at first intends to create, but as you'll see when my post comes out, he does so in an unusual way...

Basically he uses a great deal of magic to animate the forces of nature. What this means is that though there will at first be only pure spirits of air and wind, upon dying they will be reincarnated not just as more Windy Bastards but also as living earth, living fire, storm elementals...

There will be a menagerie, or at least that was my plan. Teknall can attempt to protect/claim dominion over the earth ones, or just make something similar.

See, I was going to have a whole surprise subplot where the lesser elements rise up and rebel against Zephyrion and the tyranny of the sky, but now you've got me to spoil all of that!

I was under the impression that Zeffy was going to make elementals, but you could always do something similar. Like, golems or something.

That post is half done right now. Expect it up in an hour or so, with the first hero and the first truly intelligent "race", if they can be considered that.
@Cyclone Galbar looks kind of weird with the strange lack of more water than land - but that's just me. Otherwise, it looks pretty cool, but I think the Deepwoods should be larger.

Agreed, but at the end of the day we only have two seas. I could perhaps expand both seas drastically and add some gulfs coming off them, but then we'd essentially have one great ocean and then a huge, connected landmass. Regardless, another ocean or two is probably going to appear when Kraken comes back.

I'm not sure how big Deepwoods is but I don't think it's like the Amazon or anything. Keep in mind I'll surround it with some hills and filler stuff like in the previous map. @Lugubrious any opinions on its size?

The map isn't to scale, it's supposedly a little larger than Earth.

*hiss*

No, it's the Earth that isn't to scale, not the map!
@poog the pig

Well I'll give anybody else a bit of time to tell me if they want to help, and then I'll create a PM conversation with all of us. In the meantime, I'll put the (very) rough and ugly outline of the world up here for everyone to look at.

What do you all think of the general layout of the terrain? I made up the last map as I went along and it ended up a little strange, so this time I'd like to go in with more of a plan.

And @Lugubrious, could you clarify the size of the Gilt? Your IC post made it sound as if it expanded all the way from the Deepwood to the edge of the Fractal Sea, but that picture you sent me had it stop a fair ways away from the coastline.

Oh. I thought you were asking about people who wanted to help, too. My bad

I said that jokingly; I would have included you if I had realized you weren't on the @mention list that I just copied and pasted from somewhere else. You still interested in helping with the maps? Kangutso and I are looking at a rough outline of the new map.
I think it'd make more sense for Vowzra to do it, as the one watching the timelines he'd have the most reason to.

It'd make more sense for about anybody else to do it, and I'm lazy. So somebody else please do it for me
By the way, have we decided we want humans on Galbar? Or are we developing sentient life from Slough's creations?

I don't mind humans, but I like the idea of Slate Apes and Stripe-faced Aphids developing into their own civilizations.

If nobody else brings them over, I will invent some way for Zephyrion to find Logos' little place and bring over some of the people there.

There must be humans to torture!
@Cyclone you didn't mention me in the post but i still love you

My bad, please send me all the landforms that Lifprasil had made thus far ;p

As I began to draft out a rough outline for the new map of Galbar, it came to my realization that the information on the patchwork of landforms that we've made so far is already spread out all over the IC and hard to sift through. So, I've decided that I'm going to attempt to turn that fourth post (with the old map) on the characters section into a full-blown atlas of Galbar.

So that being said:
  • I'd like everybody who has created a landform or geographic region of some sort on Galbar should make a creation sheet for it and then PM it to me, ideally reminding me where exactly this thing should go on the map so I don't have to dig back through the IC to find out where it is.
  • Adding to the point above, please send me this PM even if you've already PM'd the creation sheet to Rtron, both so I don't forget to add anything to the map and because I'm willing to have redundancy and list landform creations in both Rtron's compendium and in the atlas.
  • Note that currently I'm just concerned with Galbar; in due time more major settings will appear and we may try to keep track of them as well, but for now I'm focussed on Galbar and the creations on it or in its immediate vicinity.
  • And lastly, to everybody who expressed some degree of interest in helping with maps, if you do make up your mind to help then just said me an @mention confirming it (and optionally stating specifically what you'd like to do). I'll get a PM conversation up so that we can coordinate all of our efforts in the future.
