This time, unlike my previous RPs, I am going to have a general idea of where to take the plot, while at the same time making sure that said idea is flexible enough to adapt to sudden curveballs...
@dragonpiece, Accepted.

@supertinyking, Accepted. Note that I will have to include a plot for you in the future, though.
Natasha Zhang

All but three of Natasha Zhang's crew had abandoned her, and of those three, one was a fratricidal maniac disliked even by others of his species and the other had a knack for reappearing and disappearing on his own time, such that he can be mistook for a Magus. As for the third... That guy was obsessed to the point where he scared her.

This meant that the supersoldiers she would meet with would have to fill in the crew's duties, and considering the fact that the medic had also abandoned them, the Xuanzang's captain also hoped that one of their future allies was a super-doctor. And also that the rumors of 'Child Spetnaz Magi' were exaggerations and that she was not going to be stuck in a babysitting job.

So the young-looking woman waited in front of the Xuanxang's opened airlocks and hatch, alone for now, all the while feeling a creeping dread at the back of her head...

Ashton and Flame

The Galactic Bazaar was a space station the size of Ireland, a megastructure which floated above the gas giant Xenadan. Chosen due to its proximity to no less than three wormholes -Spacewarpers were even rarer after The War - The Bazaar held everything one can ask for and every danger one did not want. And here was where the former child soldiers had chosen to come, wished well by their former captors.

Even in the hangars, there were moving shuttles - The modern equivalent of the ancient food carts and mobile booths - which offered services from food and drink to beauty products or even various services left unsaid. As the motely group neared the Xuanxang's location, they encountered one of these shuttles, a brightly colored vehicle the size of a department store on 21st Century Earth. More ominously (for their wallets), it advertized sweets and 'street food'.

"Ashton," Flame Brooks spoke up, trying to be the voice of reason, "We don't have the time for this. We need to meet with our contact in a few hours. Plus, this could be a trap, and even if it isn't, we should practice being cautious." He turned to Nero and Avelyn, knowing full well that they did not have a sweet tooth, and said, "Can you two back me up on this? Our group cannot afford to be distracted by candy."

Ashton, however, was already talking with the propeitor of the 'shuttle' through his Omni-tool, and tried to defang Flame's argument by saying, "The Rau've lady running this also says she can bring us to where we want to go for a 100-Galactic Credit purchase. Travel will be smooth enough for us to eat along the way and it'd be better than continuing to walk in a kilometers-long hangar or taking a transport vehicle anyway."

Noticing the obvious game Flame was playing, Ashton turned to Tarak, their unofficial leader, and opened his mouth, only to find Flame saying, "Fine, but we take turns eating just in case this turns out to be a trap somehow and just to keep in practice."

And with that, the door to the shuttle opened, allowing the group of friends inside a large shop + restaurant filled with shelves of brightly colored sweets and baked goods, as well as a set of tables close to a shuttle window. Another section held saltier meats and savory vegetables, most of them in stew form or in skewers (blunted to prevent a hazard). There were no intoxicants, which was just as well for Flame - He did not want the group poisoning their livers early. And finally, there were drinks equivalent ot coffee and hot chocolate, as well as those tiny marshmallows mixed into the syrup.

"All right, Folks," Ashton said as he pulled out his credit stick, "Let's dig in - I think that for our health, we should buy non-sugary sweets first, then stevia-equivalents in hot chocolate or coffee, then go to the 'meal' section to buy some meat and vegetables - We should make sure we don't eat too many fried foods. Mom used to be a nutritionist and I picked up a few things from her, things I still remember and may have even added to."

Flame rolled his eyes and said, "Tarak, I think you and I should use our Omni-Tools to test each foodstuff we get for poison or allergens. And of course, we should make sure to contact our, well, destination that she should not be afraid of a large shuttle coming to her ship and despositing a group of 'Child Marines'...

Natasha Zhang

Natasha received a message - Apparently, the rumors of 'Child Spetnaz Magi' were true after all, and because she was dealing with children, they were going to take a dining shuttle instead of a regular transport craft. Because candy. So she typed back to 'Flame' and possibly Tarak (who at least looked the part of a super soldier) :

If you're going to dawdle, buy me some Milk Tea with fruit jelly and peanut-brittle-equivalents.

NPC Character Sheet

Name: William Windsor

Age: 23

Physical Description:

Important items:

Ascendancy Charter of Trade - A Contract with the Ascendancy's Government, signed by the first Ascendancy President-for-Life, Corrin Herbert, giving the Windsor Autonomous Trading Fleet extensive powers to trade in the Outer Territories of Human Space, including the exclusive right to trade with 'Aliens'. This was 80 years ago, when Xenophobia was still seeding itself in the Ascendancy's minds, but hasn't been nullified since, thanks to Ascendancy inattention and hefty bribes paid to the Ascendancy Congress.

Steelweave Formal Clothes - Several sets of formal clothes for diplomatic occassions, made up of thread as strong, if not stronger, than steel.

Ballistics Vest - A ballistics vest that can withstand even a small Coilgun Pistol.

Coilgun Pistol - Coilgun pistol enlaid with ivory and non-perfected electrum.

Plasma Pistol - A gun that fires superheated plasma.

Short Bio:

William Windsor was born to the Windsor Family, which was descended from several Old Earth Royal Families (European, Indian, and African ones). Though well-educated, William's mother, Elizabeth Windsor, taught her child to hide the true extent of his skills from all but a few people within his inner circle; this was later revealed to be a reaction to the mysterious kidnappings of prodigy children that occured in the years before the Rau've war. It also helped that William's focus was on Politics, not on 'common genius topics' like Science or Art or Engineering. Nevertheless, there were a few close calls where he was nearly found out, but thankfully, he was lucky enough to make sure those all came to nothing.

When the war against the Rau've was lost; which was than a year ago now, Elizabeth gave up her position as the head of the family to William, who immediately began planning Rebellion against the Ascendancy but found out that Moonstrike had been doing that first. He was then contacted by a young boy named Snow Cecil, who after [SPOILER] and [SPOILER], told him about [SPOILER].

And so he began doing, well, [SPOILER]

Character Traits (Will Replace Exceptional Skills):

Refuge in Audacity - Windsor, despite his smarts and attempts to put a poker face, lacks subtlety and knows it. His intrigues and movements are blatant, obvious, and only the barest attempts are made to hide them, and he knows it too. So he makes the most of it, trying to make sure when he moves, it is so audacious that the enemy is blindsided by the sheer ridiculous daring of what he does. However, this approach, while taking great risks for great rewards, also means that he risks great failures as well as great heights.

Greatest of the Independent Traders - In order to achieve the position he has, Windsor has to be good at something more than annoying people and dramatic movements, and that something more is the art of trading itself, an art which requires a combination of charisma and logistical ability. While he knows he can't match a true Admiral in tactics, he also knows he can pay, feed, and maintain a fleet large enough to give multiple true Admirals pause.

Idealistic Commitment - Despite the darkness of the galaxy, despite the dark deeds needed to sustain society, the fact is that Windsor knows that people can be lifted up to greater heights, societies can be reformed, and that while having the strength of conviction isn't everything, maintaining it can allow one to endure the setbacks the universe will eventually throw at him. This idealism and conviction sustains him even when faced with Mind Magic directed against them, and allows him to inspire similar resistance among those he talks to...
NPC Character Sheet

Name: Snow Cecil

Age: 14

Physical Description:

Important items: Normal Clothes, Ballistics Vest, Coilgun Pistol, Monomolecular Knife, Omnitool, Holographic Camera, Recorder, and Player. Also, a large amount of Galactic Credits.

Short Bio: A child, wandering the Galactic Frontier. A child, who seems to know everything. A child, whose allegiance is unknown, but certainly not with Moonstrike.

[Anything else is REDACTED due to Spoilers]

Spell List:

Supernal Vision (High) - The Mage can see all Magic, identify what School it is, and the strength of the spell.

Enchantment (High) - Snow can give an object magical powers; said powers are any of his spells or a spell lent by a willing partner.

Project Senses (Timespace) - Snow Cecil can project his senses in a six-meter (twelve-foot) sphere radiating from his body. He can hear, see, smell and otherwise sense anything in this radius, including enemies behind, above, or under him. This spell can be enchanted into objects.

Bullet Time (Timespace) - Snow can slow down time long enough to dodge bullets and other fast-moving objects.

Learn Faster (Mind) - Snow Cecil can watch someone do something (fencing, shooting, even gardening) through his eyes or a holo-tape, and master the relevant skill for one to three posting rounds. This requires that his body be able to endure the requirements of said skill in the first place (no heavy lifting for him), so the utility of this spell is mostly limited to mental and social skills.

Detect Emotion (Mind) - Snow Cecil can see various emotions as colors that light up one's body in an aura. Red means anger, Pink means romantic affection, and Black is despair. This can be coupled with Project Senses and/or enchanted into objects.

Character Traits

The Tower, Rising - Snow Cecil is as intelligent as he is arrogant, and he is very arrogant. Even without his magic, he is well-read and can be insightful when not blinded by his emotions, and when given a subject that genuinely piques his interest, is determined to learn as much as he can about it. This determination extends to his objectives - When given a cause, he tries to pursue it to the very end, focusing uncommon energy on accomplishing his goals. And at the end of the day, he is a decent person.

The Tower, Falling - Snow is as arrogant as he is intelligent, and he is very intelligent. However, his arrogance causes him to overreach, to believe that he can do more than his own talents can support. And so he falls, and what he builds, what he accomplishes, comes crashing down whether in a moment of pique or a moment of panic. For Snow Cecil is his own worst enemy, and when he realizes this, his self-loathing outpaces both his arrogance and intelligence...
Name: Flame Brooks

Age: 16

Physical Description:

Artwork Originally of Lark Meadows from Moonlight Apparition, a webcomic made by one Darkhalo4321; all credit given to her.

Important items:

Perfected Electrum Bow - A magical weapon which boosts the strength and range of Flame's 'energy' spells, allowing them to burn through meta-materials and flesh alike.

Emergency Knife - A fully-mundane knife carried on his person just in case he needs a last-ditch method of defense.

Ballistics Vest - An undershirt of soft but tough materials surrounding a core of armored dura-ceramic plates that can withstand a few pistol shots.

Galactic Credits - A few thousand credits in digital form given by the former Rau've warden.

Omni-Tool - Miniature Computer that allows for communication, calculation, augmented reality navigation and small-scale hacking.

Med-kit - A futiuristic first aid kit which contains healing nanomachines and biological gel. Can heal burns from High Magic within reason.

Flame Inventory Upgrades:

- 1 Steelweave under-suit with trauma plates underneath.
- 1 Earmuffs.
- 2x Inciendary Grenades
- 2x Frag Grenades
- 2x EMP Grenades

Short Bio: Flame Brooks was born to a drunkard father whose mother ran out on the family. Needless to say, this did not result in a happy upbringing, even with Flame's high intelligence and physicality allowing him to be fast-tracked in education. By some miracle, the authorities only took Flame once he was thirteen, and even then it wasn't social services who came for him, but rather the miitary, whom Flame's father sold his own son to in exchange for more drinking money.

What followed was hell, hell that could have turned him into a sociopath or psychopath willing to inflict cruelty and pain on others just to gain respite from his own suffering, if not for Ashton reaching out for him in one of the few periods of free time they were allowed to have. Friendship followed, and in the adrenaline-charged haze of the war, so much more. Flame found someone to love, someone who loved him, and he was able to endure the perils of war and the traumas placed on him and Ashton by their 'owners' in the military because of this. And so in what moments of spare time he had, he plotted revenge, revenge against the Ascendancy.

In the final decisive battle at Proxima, Flame fought hard against the Alien Coalition's forces, fearing death and other ordeals should they be captured by the enemy. But it was said enemy who spared them after capture, and said enemy who treated them as sapient beings once more and not property. And thus, he had time to think about the revenge he planned on the Ascendancy. However, if Ashton had chosen the Rau've offer of a new home, he'd have accepted - Ashton's happiness was important to him, after all.

Thankfully, his boyfriend had a similar need, a need for closure, and so they decided to courteously decline the offer of a new and peaceful life. And so Flame made his final decision: To throw himself into a new conflict, this time, to make the Ascendancy - The enemy - pay for the treatment he and Ashton were put through!

Spell List:

Energy Bolt (World) - Bolts of pure light and heat which can inflict serious damage on the level of a powerful laser.

Shield of Force (World) - A barrier of energy that allows Flame to protect himself from harm.

Shattering Palm (World) - A close-range attack/strike which enables Flame to break solid objects through sheer kinetic force. Originally meant against Kaisoken, this move can break Power Armor and even Ascendancy ground vehicles as well.

Cone of Silence (World) - A cone of telekinetic force that prevents sound from escaping, thus providing a space for him and others to talk in without outside folk overhearing.

Power Electronic Equipment (World) - With just a touch, Flame can power electronic equipment using only his own magic, acting as battery and transformer, and extension cord.

Prenatural Calmness (Mind) - Flame can use Magic to keep his composure in circumstances that would shatter another person, allowing him to act calmly, though not necessarily rationally, in a terrifying situation.

Character Traits

Observer of Human Nature - Flame's abusive treatment by his father, then his superiors, as well as the kindness shown to him by Ashton and the other Star Marines, have given him some sense of Human actions and feelings, allowing him to keenly observe whether a person is being sincere and their motives if they are not. But these observations are not infallible, and Flame can be paranoid or self-deceiving at times...

Marksman and Sniper - Flame is good at hitting a specific spot on an enemy with almost any ranged weapon or his own magic.

Trained Endurance - Abuse can sometimes deaden one to pain and in the world of the Ascendancy Military, that is an asset. So Flame was subjected not just to harsh military training, but also forced to undergo 'torture resistance courses' which consisted of enduring pain for hours on end to improve his pain tolerance, although, at the same time, he was given the right diet and exercise to improve his physical health. This gave him the ability to, well, endure burdens that would bring down an adult.
Name: Ashton Andrews

Age: 16

Physical Description:

Artwork Originally of Jason Levasseur from Moonlight Apparition, a webcomic made by one Darkhalo4321; all credit given to her.

Important items:

Curved daggers - Two blades forged from super-alloys and honed to a monomolecular edge, Ashton carries these weapons as reminders of his ordeal in the Ascendancy, and his determination to prevent the same thing from happening to other people.

Coilgun Pistol - A pistol that uses electromagnetic technology to launch metal bullets at a fraction of the speed of light.

Ashton Inventory Upgrades:

- 2 Organic Rauv'e Daggers (ooze poison when in contact with blood).
- 1 Steelweave under-suit with trauma plates underneath.
- 1 Earmuffs.
- 2x EMP Grenades
- 2x Cryo Grenades

Short Bio: Ashton Andrews could still remember a time when he had been happy. Born to an ordinary household, with the only thing extraordinary about him being his intelligence, he had loving parents and friends, as well as promises of a future scholarship to the University of Proxima Centauri, a star system which he would one day 'visit' in a way he very much did not want. Then the war with the Rau've and Kaisoken started, a war that his parents privately murmured was 'for unneeded territory' and 'to serve the needs of the dictators in power'. These whispers were somehow heard by the authorities, who were already viewing Ashton as a potential test subject, and so on Ashton's thirteenth birthday, Ashton disappeared on his way to school, and it was subtly hinted that his abduction was to keep his parents under control.

After disappearing, Ashton was taken to an Ascendancy Black Site, where horrific experiments were done to him, as well as various humiliations and torments to slowly break down his sense of self and make him more malleable for military training, which he was quickly thrown into as the war with the 'Alien Meneace' was intensifiying at a rapid pace. He was trained by the best special forces trainers, who put him through hell in order to fight in any environment with his chosen weapons and use the Magic that had been infused into his blood to lethal effect. And once he was ready, he was sent to another level of hell.

Life became a blur of combat actions, depression, and additonal traumas imposed by his 'superiors'. And also friendships, bonds, and even love with his fellow child soldiers, among them one Flame Brooks, who became his boyfriend and fighting partner. Together, they managed to make it through the Ascendancy's increasing number of losses, which culiminated in the Battle of Proxima, where the Ascendancy Fleet tried to prevent the Rau've/Kaisoken Coalition from pushing through to Earth.

Ashton and Flame were deployed with most of the child soldiers in a boarding action against the Rau've's flagship with orders to demolish it, but this turned out to be a trap, as the Aliens had learned how to fight against these 'magical humans' after many engagements. Ashton and Flame and their battalion were ambushed by overwhelming enemy forces, who subdued them with a tranquilizer which could not be negated with Change Magic.

The young man woke up in a prison camp, screaming for Flame. A collar of plant matter and crystal was on his neck, preventing him from casting spells, and the walls were padded and without any convinient air vents. It was clear that he was at the mercy of his enemies, and all he can do was cry.

Then, he was allowed to meet with Flame, and there was hope that things might be all right. Said hope was proven right when the aliens treated the child soldiers humanely, allowing them to roam freely in their 'prison quarters', giving them books to read, puzzles to play with, and actually taking care of them. And with Flame, he was happy, even though the other boy burnt with a need for revenge, while Ashton wanted only closure. And so, they decided not to accept the Rau've's offer of a new home, and instead chose to chase rumors of Moonstrike, a resistance against the Ascendancy. This was allowed, but not without regrets...

Spell List:

Supernal Vision (High) - The Mage can see all Magic, identify what School it is, and the strength of the spell.

High Enchantment (High) - Ashton's daggers and bullets can be enchanted to deal wounds unhealable by Magic on Magi, Magical Creatures, and Constructs. This can be cast on weapons not owned by Ashton for three rounds of combat.

Suppress Aura (High) - Ashton can conceal the aura given off by his own Magic and others, as well as the aura of magical items.

Aerokinesis (World) - Ashton can control the wind, moving it around at high velocities.

Physical Invisibility (World) - Ashton can bend light and electromagnetic radiation (infrared, ultraviolet, and x-rays, etc.) to hide from physical scanning.

Flash Step (Timespace) - Ashton can teleport a very short distance, the length of a small room, to get behind an enemy and thus gain the advantage of surprise.

Character Traits

Infilitrator - Ashton is trained not just in regular stealth, but the electronic kind, in hiding his presence from surveillance equipment. He is also adept in collecting information, not just from Alien technology, but from renegade AIs and computers owned by 'collaborators' as well. In short, he's not just a stealth fighter, but a hacker as well, just as capable of entering your smartphone's systems as he is at carving your heart out with a knife... Or was it the reverse?

Parkour and Acrobatics - Ashton is a natural in climbing things, somersaulting out of the way of attacks, and even contorting himself a bit. This gives him an extra advantage in urban terrain, as well as any area not an even plain.

Wolf Cub of Wall Street - When he was young, Ashton's inner genius manifested itself when he accidentally logged into the E-commerce platform his father was using and, thinking it was some sort of videogame, promptly made his parents a fortune in the stock market, a fortune which his father had to give back upon finding out. Nevertheless, when Ashton grew older, he managed to find ways to play the E-commerce game until he was abducted by the Ascendancy, and even then, he found occasional ways to get back in the stock market game whenever his superiors' vigilance lapsed.
