History

Biography: Scott's father was a Russian immigrant who moved to the Seattle area to get a job working for Boeing. His mother was one of the engineers at the plant and one of the few who spoke Russian, since her grandmother had been an immigrant from Odessa. The pair of them had three children, with Scott being the middle child. While his older brother went into politics and his younger sister into aerospace engineering, Scott had always been a rebel without a cause growing up.

Throughout high school, he had gotten into a fair number of fights. While no one understood why at first, there was a pattern that quickly grew. Each of the fights had nothing to do with Scott - he'd step in and fight those picking on others. His parents and guidance counselor decided the best way to channel his aggressive energy would be in the military. His older brother had worked on a congressman's campaign and managed to get Scott a letter of recommendation for West Point.

At West Point, Scott studied mechanical engineering. Everyone there was being groomed for an officer position, but his talents as a sharpshooter made him stand out. They could give him any gun and he would hit the target. Once he graduated, he was sought out by the U.S. Army Special Forces and served as a Green Beret. The events that happened during his time with the Green Berets are largely classified, except for two pieces of information: 1) he received a letter from a one night stand that he had fathered a child and 2) he had 31 confirmed kills.

By the time he was sent home, his child had been put up for adoption. He had become disillusioned during his time of service, hardly able to find anything good in all of the death and destruction he had caused. It was all chaos and it was all the same. He wasn't sure what he had been fighting for and he wasn't fit to raise a child, so he never sought her out. Scott plans to send her money when she turns eighteen for college - but little more than that.

He reached what many would have referred to as rock bottom. Up to his eyes in booze, sex, and gambling debts, Scott got the only job his unique skill set qualified him for: merc for hire. He's made a name for himself in the business, as well as a nice profit. He dropped off the grid a few months ago when he came down with some horrible disease. One of his friends, a lowlife named Chloe with medical training, ended up taking care of him for a week or so. Mercs avoided hospitals like the plague if they could.

Discovery Of Your Power: Scott had been on a job for a client, ensuring that a rival's shipment was "accidentally" destroyed. Everything had been going to plan, until he made the fatal error of miscounting his bullets. With two guards left and no more ammo, it looked bad. While he first tried to talk his way out of it, they didn't enjoy his unique sense of humor for some strange reason. When the bullets fired, Scott instinctively threw his arms out to protect himself, only for the bullets to stop moving.

The next thing he knew, he had flung the bullets back at the two guards and managed to complete the job. He hasn't told anyone, but he figures it's one hell of a party trick. And in his line of work, it can't hurt to have something up your sleeve. The real takeaway for him, though, was that he needed to be better about counting his ammo.

History

Your Path: Myrus' path was selected for him at a young age. As the only male child of Queen Meliscente and given that only female children could inherit the throne, Myrus was raised with the intention of one day being married to a Crown Princess. Through his marriage, he could strengthen the political alliances of the Castle and some other nation. And while Myrus has never verbally protested this path, he doesn't want it. He doesn't want to marry someone for political necessity and spend his life focused on politics. He dreams of stealing a vessel and sailing away from the Castle, starting a new life on the sea and seeing the world. The Castle has so many treasures on the Long Walk from distant lands - he wants to see where they all came from.

General History: Myrus is the youngest son of the late Queen Meliscente and her husband. His mother was pregnant with him when his eldest sibling, Valda, was CradleSnatched by Wendron Witches. Myrus' first clear memory is of the Palace Guards patrolling the grounds, with their numbers and ranks increased after Valda's disappearance. He didn't understand it at the time but his mother was petrified that something similar would happen to Luna and Myrus. The Port Witch Coven would be out for blood and the Wendron Witches may very well wish to try their luck again.

He was six years old when his father died. No one would tell him what had happened to him and after a while, Myrus stopped asking. There was no point in being met with the same non-explanation of "I'll tell you once the time is right, Myrus." Rather than assume that something horrible had happened to his father, Myrus imagined an illness for him. People died from illness all the time. And it was something that a six year old could understand. Even now, Myrus still doesn't know what truly happened to his father. His mother died before she ever told him.

Myrus had two good friends growing up - Mavis Moll and his sister, Princess Luna. He would go to Mavis' house and hear stories from her father about his travels, before he gave up his life as a Northern Trader and became a dockhand at the Castle. Those stories sparked his imagination and made him crave to see whatever was beyond the Castle walls, as he had never ventured beyond them at that point in his life.

Once he was the proper age for tutoring, Myrus was plunged into studies of etiquette and diplomacy, while Mavis was apprenticed to a Castle Alchemist. In his spare moments, he'd study maps and learn more about how to operate the vessels down at the Palace's dock. He mostly saw his sister at that point, though he'd sneak out at nights to see his old friend whenever he could. The friendship grew into something more and the two had a brief romance, with Mavis ending things around when Valda was rescued from the Wendron Witches. Myrus tried his best to help his sister acclimate to Castle life, under the impression that it would be a long time until Valda would have to become Queen.

And then after a trip to the Land of Long Nights with his mother, she fell ill and she died, making Luna, Valda, and Myrus orphans.

Thoughts on Queen Meliscente: His mother's passing has brought up a lot of unanswered questions for Myrus - namely, the death of his father. It breaks his heart to have lost both of his parents before he became of age and he wants to believe that it was an illness. Myrus doesn't want to suspect anyone - whether it's his sister, Valda, a Witch Coven, or the Northern Traders. He wants to remember happier times, rather than dwell on the possibility that his mother was murdered - and that maybe his father was as well...

Personality: Scott has been called many things in his life, such as: asshole, jackass, bastard, and prick. He's also been told he chews with his mouth open. With a rough and tumble personality, he uses humor as a defense mechanism. When he's stressed, angry, scared, sad, or hell, even just happy, he'll crack a joke. This may appear to be insensitive, but if he doesn't admit to himself his own feelings or the seriousness of the situation, then he can protect himself from it.

He has a strong sense of self preservation and self interest, always looking out for number one. But beneath this cocky outer layer, there's actual human compassion and empathy. If you're one of the people he cares about, he'll do anything to keep you safe from harm. His selfish nature drives him to protect himself and his people - no one else. He'd destroy the world in order to keep his friends and himself alive. Whether he admits to caring about someone is a completely different matter - he'll likely deny it. He's a boss on the outside and a marshmallow on the inside. And just a little bit trigger happy. But hey! No one's perfect...

History

Biography: Scott's father was a Russian immigrant who moved to the Seattle area to get a job working for Boeing. His mother was one of the engineers at the plant and one of the few who spoke Russian, since her grandmother had been an immigrant from Odessa. The pair of them had three children, with Scott being the middle child. While his older brother went into politics and his younger sister into aerospace engineering, Scott had always been a rebel without a cause growing up.

Throughout high school, he had gotten into a fair number of fights. While no one understood why at first, there was a pattern that quickly grew. Each of the fights had nothing to do with Scott - he'd step in and fight those picking on others. His parents and guidance counselor decided the best way to channel his aggressive energy would be in the military. His older brother had worked on a congressman's campaign and managed to get Scott a letter of recommendation for West Point.

At West Point, Scott studied mechanical engineering. Everyone there was being groomed for an officer position, but his talents as a sharpshooter made him stand out. They could give him any gun and he would hit the target. Once he graduated, he was sought out by the U.S. Army Special Forces and served as a Green Beret. The events that happened during his time with the Green Berets are largely classified, except for two pieces of information: 1) he received a letter from a one night stand that he had fathered a child and 2) he had 31 confirmed kills.

By the time he was sent home, his child had been put up for adoption. He had become disillusioned during his time of service, hardly able to find anything good in all of the death and destruction he had caused. It was all chaos and it was all the same. He wasn't sure what he had been fighting for and he wasn't fit to raise a child, so he never sought her out. Scott plans to send her money when she turns eighteen for college - but little more than that.

He reached what many would have referred to as rock bottom. Up to his eyes in booze, sex, and gambling debts, Scott got the only job his unique skill set qualified him for: merc for hire. He's made a name for himself in the business, as well as a nice profit. He dropped off the grid a few months ago when he came down with some horrible disease. One of his friends, a lowlife named Chloe with medical training, ended up taking care of him for a week or so. Mercs avoided hospitals like the plague if they could.

Discovery Of Your Power: Scott had been on a job for a client, ensuring that a rival's shipment was "accidentally" destroyed. Everything had been going to plan, until he made the fatal error of miscounting his bullets. With two guards left and no more ammo, it looked bad. While he first tried to talk his way out of it, they didn't enjoy his unique sense of humor for some strange reason. When the bullets fired, Scott instinctively threw his arms out to protect himself, only for the bullets to stop moving.

The next thing he knew, he had flung the bullets back at the two guards and managed to complete the job. He hasn't told anyone, but he figures it's one hell of a party trick. And in his line of work, it can't hurt to have something up your sleeve. The real takeaway for him, though, was that he needed to be better about counting his ammo.

Premise

"The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they become something more. See if they can work together when we needed them to. To fight the battles that we never could."

June 20th, 2016. We thought that we faced our deadliest foe that day. Walter Hanson, a disillusioned witch, rose Lucifer from Hell in order to bring about the end of days. Ordinary citizens and skilled hunters fought against the devil, with only a handful managing to live to tell the tale. The rest were buried in Owen's Field, if they were lucky enough to have their bodies found. The blood soaked into the ground, creating a permanent scar on the face of the Earth.

How foolish we were to think that it was all behind us.

As O.M.E.N. (the Organization for the Methodical Eradication of Necromantics) chased Hanson across the country, something ancient began to stir. Hel, the Norse Goddess of Death, was imprisoned by the Judeo-Christian deities ages ago. With the demon Mephistopheles seeking revenge against those who killed his master, Lucifer, Hel persuaded the demon to join forces with her. Their plan was simple: kill those who would oppose them and from the ashes of this world, build a better one.

Mephistopheles began to kill survivors of the Altsoba Massacre, those who had opposed Lucifer, such as Trevor Martin. He murdered the leaders of O.M.E.N. in such a fashion that would draw the most qualified hunters to Coventry, Massachusetts. It was a trap intended to slaughter them - and for the most part, it succeeded. Less than five of those who opposed Lucifer are still alive - that we know of.

Yet Hel triumphed as well. Mephistopheles imprisoned a kumakatok, preventing the kumaktok from doing what it must. These death spirits must always perform their function - there is no alternative. For a kumakatok to not manage their duties...it is a paradox, a cruel reversion of reality. It ripped holes into reality, scattering innocent victims across time and space, and released a Mullo. More importantly, it destroyed the cage that housed Hel, as her cage was made out of the fabric of reality.

Now free, Hel has already begun to slaughter the brave souls who stand against her. With the wolf Fenrir and the traitor Aloise Zamora by her side, all she needs is to acquire her cloak, banihylja. Her cloak will increase her powers exponentially, leaving humanity with the choice of kneeling to Hel or dying at her feet.

Will you stand against Hel? Or will you bow to the Goddess of Death? A team of remarkable individuals has been assembled in order to stop her. This odd company, including hunters, nephilim, fallen angels, and former Kings of Hell, is all that stands in Hel's way. The fate of the Earth rests in their hands. No, I am mistaken...

It rests in your hands.

Hello and welcome!

The Horrors of Coventry is a horror roleplay, inspired primarily by Supernatural. We have been going strong for almost a year (11 months!!!) and while we have a strong central group, we would love to welcome some new faces. As we enter Chapter 4, we are at a point where it is ideal to bring in new faces. Who would these characters be? It's simple. Anyone even remotely qualified to stop the Norse Goddess of Death. Is this a cheerleader turned zombie hunter? Sure! What about an agent of O.M.E.N., dedicating to stopping the world's supernatural threats? Love it! What about a vampire who wants to help humanity? Go for it!

I am a bit of a tough GM, but I'm fair. If you can post once a week and write at least two paragraphs, you'll do well. We've been running long term and don't show any sign of dying out. Got a roleplay fix you want to satiate, but you're tired of roleplays fizzling out? Believe me, I've been there. Give us a shot - and rise to the challenge Hel poses.

Q: Do I need to read all of those IC posts so far?
A: Nope! If anything from the previous three chapters is relevant, I'll provide you with a summary of what happened.

Q: I'm not a Supernatural fan....Can I still join?
Of course! While we are inspired by Supernatural and use a lot of their lore, I summarize all of the lore that we need in the OOC. If you're ever confused, just ask and I'll answer! Some of our current players haven't even watched the show before.

Q: What if I'm a bit intimidated by all of those posts?
Don't let the 300+ IC posts deter you (though I am super proud of them)! You will be able to slide right into the RP. At the point where we're at, we could technically start an entirely new RP topic and it'd be all the same. I'm also willing to help if you have any questions or worries, and I can guide you through character creation.

Q: I have an idea for a character, but I'm not sure if it's allowed...
Ask! You'll never know unless you do. On the off chance that it isn't accepted, I can work with you to tweak it so that way it fits in.

Q: I'm in the Wolves of Red Lake or X-Men: Darkness Rising...I heard there was something cool for me?
You heard right! If you are in a roleplay hosted by myself, @Nallore, or @BlueSky44, you can make a relative of one of your established characters! We've even had relatives of characters from different roleplays that we don't run! Isn't that one hell of a perk?
