Since none of the images used are stored on the website's server, the artists could just reupload hardcore pornography on their sites and give them the same file name as the art taken. That said, if you're an artist concerned about someone (or a website) infringing upon your material, be careful to read the Terms of Service for websites you post on. Some, like Facebook, include clauses giving them a transferable license to distribute and use your material as they see fit if you post material.

Otherwise, artists can issue DMCA Takedown Notices to servers that unknowingly host (e.g. distribute) their material (as I see there are a lot of artists in this thread).

If you got the impression from anything I posted that I care, your bad.

If someone were to come to me and claim they own the copyright to the image. I will gladly remove the image if they can provide a digital copy of the certificate of registration from the Copyright Office. Otherwise they can cry a river and build a bridge.

Very very true, patience is something I do regretfully lack a lot of times. And I agree with @Inkarnate, rules are hard to change, especially when there’s so many disagreements over the matter at hand. when it’s a hot topic like this hopefully some agreements and compromises that make the majority happy, can be made.

At least on this website there are people who care and wish to do something about it. There’s a lot of blogs that couldn’t care less.

In the end issues like this will still continue everywhere because there’s so many people that couldn’t care less.

In my opinion there could be a rule like “name your sources” just to be courteous.

@Iuniper this is why I usually only use deviantart so I can use their Creative Commons license, which gives my artwork some protection. Anywhere else it’s posted, the image has a big ugly mark of my name on it. (I make sure it covers the majority of the image so it’s almost impossible to remove)

That's just a thread within the roleplaying discussion section. Some threads from roleplays to other misc. threads have 1k+ posts.

So what if you wrote a character for an RP and then a week later you saw the exact same character show up in another similarly themed rp?

It's happened before on another site. I did nothing. If a person is using another person's character they are either not good enough to do it themselves or just lazy, either way they are not an RPer and it's beneath me to make a fuss about it.

@Burning Kitty Again, just wondering, but why are they not a RPer if they copy the CS? If they get accepted and use the character wouldn't they still be an RPer?

The answer is simple. If someone complains, remove it.

If they don't, don't worry about it.

Just respect the artists that care enough to complain and continue on.

i see a lot of dumb replies here saying “hur i just admire and i dont pretend its mine”

when you make a cs or use images in a post, simply put, that is your writing and unless you credit it, the use of an image can be misconstrued as it being your image - i know everyone on rpg knows thats not how it is since we’re all art thieves (i’m a proud art thief) but yeah that’s how it is

solution is to just forcibly remove it if someone won’t conply. idk why this has to be a discussion at all

Also, anyone who talks about exposure for the artist; Your garbage roleplays and shit characters are not decent exposure for anyone. Pretending that you and anything you do on here is beneficial to anybody is delusional; Get over yourselves.
