"I never thought this day would come!"

——————————————————
Rosefell high.

Jo waited by front door of the school, scanning the Liberty kids to see if she knew anyone in the crowd. From what she is saying, it seems to be a big negative. Her phone then buzzed in her pocket and it surprised her a little since she visibly flinched from it. She fished her phone and looked down at it, her face immediately lit up and the smile on her face grew like a kid in the candy store, Samantha finally texted today and that was to call out where she is, she then quickly sent a text back.

To: Sammy 💜💜💜
From: Jo Lynn
Right! I'm on my way!

She held her phone to her chest and took one step before realising that she also had to reply to the text she got from JJ, before she could even write she was stopped by Dee's arrival, she could not not greet one of her best guy friends. She opened her arms prompting for a hug, and after she got it she pulled away to answer him. But before she could even do that, JJ arrived and had to give him a quick hug too.

"When did anyone ever know what they're getting themselves to here?" She added, as she looked up at the two, she looked back at her phone, then looked back at up to them, "I'm pretty sure the pretentious snobby ones are just fashionably late or something." She said rolling her eyes but laughing about it a little. "Rosefell is going to eat them up like how you're going to up this bagel! Tada!" Jo exclaimed, giving the breakfast bagel to JJ, "One of my aunt's favourites!" She turned to Dee and gave him an awkward smile before saying, "Sorry I didn't know if you were the bagel type, I'll get you one next time alright?" With that out of the way, she wanted to talk more about the Liberty kids but she did not want to talk too bad about Liberty, after all Samantha goes- SAMANTHA!

"Anyway!" She called out to get the two guys' attention, "My best friend, who I met online goes to Liberty and this is the first time I'm meeting her." She crossed her arms and leaned her forward, squinting at both of them, "I love this girl to death... So..." She put one of her hands on each of their shoulders and pulled them down to her level with her surprising strength, she gave off a smile but it was very clearly a death threat, "If any of you even try to sleep with her, you'll know what's coming." She then let them go and went back to the cheery non-threatening Jo people are more used to and took a step down the stairs. "She's in the parking lot, so come on I wanna meet her already!" She said, beckoning them to come with her to meet her.

As soon as she got at the parking lot, she scanned the place, looking down at her text over and over again but there were so many good looking cars and rich clothing that it was a little difficult to find her. But amongst the crowd, like the light at the end of the tunnel, she was sure that this girl she was approaching was Samantha. She tapped on her shoulder and as soon as she turned around, it was not Samantha, and she just awkwardly shuffled away in embarrassment. She then saw another girl matching her description and went around to the girl's front finally seeing that it was Sam.

"Sammy?" She asked, her eyes widened after realising it was her and her smile grew bigger than the earth itself, she practically jumped into the girl's arms and gave her the biggest hug, tearing up a little that she was meeting her for the first time. "I never thought this day would come!" She let out as she refused to let the girl go, she pulled away moments later and brushed her eyes with her sleeves. She blinked and could not stop smiling, "I honestly can't believe it's you, I'm actually lost for words, holy bitch! If I could hug you forever I would." She let out.

She had never been so happy.

There was electricity in the air. There always was on game day. It was a part of the experience that was always humbling to feel that low hum of the crowd as over 100,000 people voiced their combined anticipation for the heroes soon to emerge from the tunnels of Ohio Stadium. Sure, the opponent may not have the allure of some of the Ohio State University's Big Ten rivals, but the first game of the season still carried that same buzz. Even for the prospect of putting a smackdown on Akron. Heck, especially for the prospect of putting a smackdown on Akron.

It was that buzz that carried Melissa Elliott through all those practices in the baking summer sun that the Buckeye State loved to offer. It's why for the moment she set aside the late-night parties to get another yoga session or another set of weights in. It's why she busted her ass to make sure she stood out in the crowd enough to make the OSU cheerleading squad as a freshman. Besides, how else was she supposed to keep tabs on which guys on the football team had the best potential partnerships to offer?

Of course, she did have a backup plan. Just in case the coach had a grudge or a long-standing tradition of ignoring freshman talent. She appreciated the fact that she had at least one person she knew make it to the big school with her. It was always nice to have that fallback option. As the blonde looked over at the linebacker assigned number 44, that million-dollar smile flashed through the visor. She remembered when DeShawn Marcus first arrived at Rosefell, and her thoughts that he had a shot at making it to this stage. More than some of the other guys she knew. He didn't fall short of those expectations.

"What you thinking, Queen? Don't tell me you're shakin'?

Melissa ruffled at the thought, ponytail shaking slightly as she gave a soft laugh. "Not shaking, just savoring. It feels like I'm finally where I'm supposed to be. I'm so ready for this."

"Hah, was gonna say, a little late to do the old pre-game psych-up routine."

That earned DeShawn a smirk from the cheerleader. "Who said I didn't?

The linebacker gave an eyebrow raise. "Seriously? You seriously did that right before the game? With who?"

Melissa just laughed. "J.K., Dee, J.K."

"You're just kidding?"

"No! J.K., hun," Melissa nodded to the player wearing #2 near the start of the lineup of Buckeyes. "You know I'll do my best to help get the star running back ready for the game. Even if it is against MAC-level bad players. Hope Hunter's ready for what's gonna hit him."

Deshawn just shook his head. If there was a response coming, it was drowned out by the roar of the crowd. Time to roll out.

As the players and cheerleaders streamed onto the field, the bright red sky above held but a few purple clouds. The Akron players looked like a bunch of lost lambs. Seriously, the wool was poking out from the helmets. Aside from Hunter. Poor Hunter.

Melissa thought she could make out the coach yelling. "Are you ready?!?"

"Yes!"

"Melissa, are you awake?

Weirdly specific? "Yes!"

"Good! You're still driving me to school today, right?" Wait, wha?

That was what awakened Melissa from her red-sky dream. There was no Ohio State. No Dee. No J.K. Dobbins. Just her familiar bedroom. Her familiar laptop. Her familiar view of the other row houses along the street. The familiar call of Zoey Elliott, reminding her that today was the first day of her last ride at Rosefell. The End of the Knights' Watch.

"Right..." she muttered to herself.

It was a rather effortless process for Melissa to get herself ready for the average school day. Granted, she had taken liberties to prepare for such a momentous occasion. Especially with Libertys showing up uninvited in her realm for the last year of high school. She wasn't thrilled about the whole merger between the schools, but it did prove that even with the relative lack of money, Rosefell was the better school. At least it was still standing. There were rumors about what had happened, but Melissa liked to believe that the principal had bet all his money betting on the Clippers to win the NBA title. What a dumbass.

Her outfit had been laid out on her bench for the last two days. Nothing was to disturb the cheerleader outfit now that it had been properly pressed and detailed. The scarlet red with the silver shimmer outlines was her beacon to the small world of Rosefell of her status as Queen. It was only fitting of the head cheerleader. Sure, her coronation would be a bit delayed with this shuffling of the schools together, but soon enough of the new students would know where they needed to be in line with her.

The thought of such assimilation made going through the motions to make herself look presentable rather enjoyable for Melissa. Of course, she still had to be on point. She was supposed to be the grand marshall looking after all the poor little Liberty kids. Along with Spike. There could be worse fates. Spike had at least learned his lesson about trying to ask her out on a date after the 19th rejection. There was always the chance he could go for an even 20. And who could blame him? Melissa's hair was on point after a shower and quick hit with the blow dryer. Her waves didn't need to look their best, given they would be up in a ponytail secured with a bright silver scrunchie her mom had picked out from the bin at work that was destined for the outlet store, but they would still be bouncing. A brief touch of makeup was all she needed. Didn't have to do much to near-perfection, after all. After that, her outfit slipped on with ease and Melissa gathered her stuff for the day.

In all, from rising out of sleep to descending down the stairs of the townhouse, the process took about 15 minutes. Melissa spent two of those minutes texting her best friend and second-in-command of the social kingdom she had built for herself at Rosefell, Alycia Collins. Alycia would be handling the driving today, after a quick confirmation via text that Melissa's car would have to sit in the driveway for the moment. The preparations for opening day had obviously led her to overlook some things, and it was only upon arriving back at home, fresh off her most recent social call to the home of DeShawn Marcus, that she realized how low her old Sentra was on gas. So given the closure of local gas stations and the lack of time this morning, the Nissan was on the sidelines. Melissa desperately wanted to avoid arriving for her big day in Alycia's beat-up old minivan, a vehicle more fit to serve as an artificial coral reef in Lake Erie as opposed to a chariot of someone of such stature. Seriously, the only redeeming feature was that it had rusted so badly, it contrasted perfectly with the gray paint in Rosefell colors. Maybe it was appropriate.

As she emerged in the kitchen, her mother Jessica was there, struggling to balance coffee and bagel in one hand and keys and purse in the other. "Hey mom... No breakfast, I'm guessing?"

Jessica stopped and shook her head. "Sorry, dear," she confirmed. "Have to run to the mall to open up the store. That damn Vanessa called in absent again."

Melissa shook her head. "What is that, seven grandparents she's had die in the past year?"

"Well, this time she's claiming she has a dental appointment, so at least she's learning some new excuses. Although it sounded like she was at a Starbucks drive-thru when she was making the call. I just don't want to be looking to fill that position at this point though. So, you'll survive, right? And you can take Zoey to school with you?"

"Yeah, she can hitch a ride with me and Alycia. We can probably stop at McDonald's or something for breakfast." Melissa looked into the living room where her sister sat, bag at the ready, but appearance not nearly as perfected as Miss Elliott would approve of. She still needed a lot of work if she was going to take over the top spot on the social chain while Melissa was off at university. Zoey was on her sixth rewatch of 13 Reasons Why. Melissa shook her head again as she checked her phone. "C'mon Zoey. Our tetanus-encrusted lift is here."

The younger Elliott sibling hoisted herself up from the couch and headed towards the door. "Bye honey! Be nice to those rich kids, will you? Some of them are good customers!"

Yeah, that's not happening.

Alycia sat in wait, her bag with her cheap Chromebook and various notepads and other supplies tossed in the backseat. She was unaware she would be picking up more than one blonde today, but that wouldn't matter. She had known Zoey for a decade, back when she first met Melissa at a gymnastics class back in the day. Her mother was convinced she was going to be another Simone Biles, but that never materialized the way she wanted. Still, at least she got a gold medal friendship that day. Or so Melissa told her.

They had proved their loyalty to each other over the years, well before Melissa's calculated rise to the top of the social pyramid at Rosefell. So it made sense that Alycia was the one that Melissa trusted with most of her secrets. Of her latest conquests among the football team, of who was slipping in their style choices, of that weird dream that one time that Melissa swore her to never bring up again. It was a sisterly bond, something Alycia appreciated as an only child. In a way, that protection extended to Zoey too, although she did worry Melissa was being a little to hard on her at times.

"No. Taco Bell is gross. Especially for breakfast! Who wants throw up in a tortilla at 9am?" It was clear that Zoey's wish of "Mexican" food for breakfast would not be entertained.

"Well, Aly is driving, so she can decide!" Zoey huffed as she hopped into the backseat.

"Sorry about that," Melissa apologized as she placed herself in the front. "Mom didn't have time to make breakfast. Can we stop somewhere on the way to school?" She looked in the backseat. "As long as it isn't Taco freaking Bell!" Zoey just stuck her tongue out in response.

Alycia just laughed at the antics. "If you don't play nice, I'm going stop at the convenience store and get you both apples!" That got the Elliotts to calm down. "I'm feeling some McDonald's anyway. And you can get a breakfast burrito there, Zoey. It'll be kinda like Taco Bell, just better for you."

The look Melissa gave Alycia was one of relief.

The trip through the drive-thru was relatively short. Egg McMuffins and breakfast burritos were enjoyed by the respective occupants of the 2004 Caravan en route to the old familiar building. There was already a crowd, as well there should be. The star of the day was here. Sure, Melissa had heard through the grapevine that there would be partnerships between Liberty and Rosefell students for the purposes of guided tours of their new school, but Melissa was clearly not meant to beam brighter for just one Liberty student at a time.

"So, you going to be able to handle everyone staring at you all day for guidance? Or should I get you a neon sign so they know they are supposed to be staring at you?" Alycia punctuated this offer with a look that screamed sarcasm.

"I dunno. Some of these poor rich kids might need the help," Melissa conceded. "Seriously, we better be getting a ton of money from these kids' parents or something. Who'd you end up assigned with?"

Alycia thought for a second, trying to remember the name she got in the email. Melissa also got a name late in the process, but of course, she didn't read that email. There were more important things to focus on. "Ummmm, think his name was... Payton Merrill? I dunno. Better not be a nerd or anything. Least you'll get to see the whole that Liberty has to offer, right?"

Melissa scoffed. "If anything. I'm not keeping my hopes up. Spike is there to be goofy and kind. I'm there to show them who is in charge. I'm not expecting things to change." She looked back, then looked out of the van as she spotted her sister dashing off to the school. "Least my sister hasn't changed. Anyway, best of luck, bestie. I'll talk to you in class? Or during? I don't know the schedule."

"Sounds good. I'm going to go park. I'll see you in a few seconds."

As Melissa got out of the van, Alycia willed it towards the parking lot. Meanwhile, the head cheerleader looked around for her tour sidekick for the day. The mascot for the Rosefell Knights appeared to be holding court, sans armor but equipped with a bevy of sweets. She didn't recognize the majority of the girls surrounding the mascot. Spikey must be in heaven with this much attention on him. When was the last time he had three girls this close to him that weren't doing some pep rally trick? There was a redhead, and what looked like a biker girl, although neither of them looked too impressed. She recognized Lilith, although she wasn't used to seeing her without a ready bag of weed awaiting her when she needed a bit of stress relief, or her football-playing partner du nuit needed some performance enhancement. Going to have to ask her for her hookup for another bag soon. And, of course, Minty Goh. Her reputation around Rosefell was similar to Melissa's, only somewhat less selective. There were a few people who had experienced both women, and while she hadn't bothered to do some sort of survey comparison, Melissa was confident she was more skilled. Although it was clear who had Spike more under their thumb. Spike clearly had no latte waiting for Melissa. Shame. He would pay a far higher price then a lollipop.

"Well hello, fellow Roses!" she said, announcing her presence as she strolled up to the growing crowd. "I hope everyone is ready for this year! I know I am. ...Or I would be if I had a Plouf latte in front of me." She gave Spike a decided look. In all honesty, she knew she couldn't have expected such. However, it was clear that the Libertys were already starting to trickle in, and dominance had to be shown. She would make it up to Spike later. "But we can't have everything we want, right? You never feel like you've earned anything if it's just given to you! Anyway, I see you new ladies have met Spike! Don't tell me he's causing too much trouble already! He and I are here to help you on your first day at Rosefell! So any questions you have, or if you get lost, just find me, or the comically oversized knight helmet that this blonde bombshell should be wearing right now. Right, Spike?"

Richie Diedrikson, Marcos Kingsley, and Aiden Howard
@Spooner, @TootsiePop, and @Melissa

Tapping his thumb on the steering wheel of his car Richie’s eyes were focused on his phone again. Particularly the gray bubble with three blinking dots on the screen. He had sent Vanessa a message as soon as he had put the Cadillac in park while he waited for his friends to come out of the giant house. For some reason, he had a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach from their call this morning. But Vanessa assured him that she was just in a rush to get to class. Richie decided he was fine with her explanation, he didn’t want to be that clingy boyfriend who didn’t trust his girlfriend just because he wasn’t there to check in on her.

As soon as he pocketed his phone he heard his name being called. He whipped his head up and saw that it was Marcos’s sister Trixie coming down the road with her brother trudging down the walkway behind her, his signature brooding face plastered on him. Richie flashed the girl his wide pearly white smile as he jumped out of his car and gave Trixie a friendly tight hug.

“How’ve you been Trix? Haven’t seen you in a while” he let her go as Marcos came closer and switched his attention to his main boy. “You alright there buddy… tough morning? Did Trix beat you in pullups?” he asked with a wink wrapping his arm around him slapping Marcos’s shoulder hard as he did.

"He’ll live, he’s just grumpy. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed. As for me,” She glanced up at Richie, with tender admiration (he was the angel on her brother’s shoulder), "I’ve been alright. Spent a lot of girl time with my mom, ‘specially during Labor Day weekend. We saw Aunty Julie—” who resides in Beverly Hills, California, "—and spent the whole time at her spa.”

Trixie smiled to herself, knowing well enough she needed that time because who doesn’t like doing self care things with their mom? "Luna—” One of her cousins, “—wanted me to ask you if you were single yet, but don’t worry I told her you are dedicated, loyal, and in a loving relationship! There was a tinge of jealousy briefly on Marcos’ sister’s face, which was clear that she didn’t enjoy her cousin talking about relationships and such. One day she’ll have herself a good boyfriend, but for now, for her papi she had to focus on her studies.

The blond boy let out a chuckle, the one time Richie had met the Kingsley’s twin cousins Luna had been quite intense with her intentions. ”Well thanks for informing her for me”

“Where’s Aiden and Liv?” Richie asked looking behind the pair, where the Howard siblings were shining with their absence.

Almost as if the mere mention of the blondes summoned them, Aiden’s Jeep raced around the corner in true reckless fashion, tearing down the quiet street as Liv held on for dear life in the passenger seat. As always, he had grossly underestimated how long it’d take to get there, this time forgetting the construction zone that had conveniently popped up over the weekend on one of the main roads. He sped into the Kingsley’s driveway, not even waiting for the car to gently roll to a stop before cutting the engine.

“We’re here!” Aiden shouted out hurriedly as he quickly opened his car door and tumbled out. He looked down at his phone to check the time, noting that it was not a minute past when Richie had asked them to be ready for pick up. It was also not a minute earlier. Take that, Diedrikson! “We’re not late, we’re here!”

“Good, you know how Richie rolls. We would’ve left you two behind.” Marcos grinned, his mood slowly but surely shifting now that he was surrounded by family. He took a moment to punch his friend’s arm and joke, “Ready to see the hot selection? I’m sure you’ve been dying for some of that after labor day weekend.”

“Yeah… definitely…”

Meanwhile, his sister pushed open the passenger side door and stepped out gracefully, revealing an unmistakable pissed off expression on her face. “Drive any faster… I dare you.” Liv uttered, almost looking nauseated with the speed her brother had driven them there. She smoothed out her dress before walking towards the Cadillac trying to stabilize herself once more from the rollercoaster of a ride she didn’t sign up for. “I swear to god, Richie, if you drive anything like my brother I’m getting out of the car and walking.”

“No one drives like your brother…” Richie’s eyes flicked to Aiden’s mud-stained Jeep and then back to his best friend.

Not wanting to waste any of Richie’s time, Trixie quickly tossed her phone to her brother, "Pictures! Come here, Liv.” The small latina grabbed her bestie and made sure that their backdrop was of her estate’s landscape and not the cars. "You look gorg. Rosefell won’t even know what’s coming for them.”

“Okay, in three… two… one…”

Liv’s expression changed from annoyed to carefree in two seconds flat as she smiled and posed for the camera with Trixie. If there was anything that could lighten the mood she was in, it was an impromptu photo shoot. After a few pictures, she pulled her brother into the frame, having promised her mother that they’d take at least one picture together. Aiden tried to look happy, but in all reality he just wanted to get to school as soon as possible so that he could finally see Fiamma.

After only taking a single picture, the blonde boy clapped his hands together, “Okay, that’s enough, let’s get this show on the road.” Realizing how unlike the usual non-academically inclined sounded, he blurted out a false statement. “Don’t want to keep the ladies of Rosefell waiting.” Liv rolled her eyes.

“Yeah, you’re right. We should get going. Maybe my daily post will be a picture with Fi.” Marcos nodded, as he gave his sister her phone and swiftly claimed shotgun. “Shotgun, by the way.” Marcos updated his instagram at least once a day and the type of picture had to display some kind of message, so maybe it should be with the one girl that could put up with him. He didn’t have enough Fi on his page, which probably made him look like a bad friend.

"Looks like Aiden is sitting in between me and Liv!” Trixie teased, as she gave Richie a thumbs up that they were indeed ready to go.

“Great…” Aiden commented unenthusiastically. Whether he was referring to the fact that Marcos was going to post a picture with his girlfriend or being squished between his sister and Trixie was unclear to the group.

Richie held the door open for the girls and Aiden making sure they were all settled and belted before he flipped his seat back and got in himself. The Cadillac purred into action as soon as Richie turned the key and he pulled them out from the Kingsley driveway. The drive through town went smoothly mainly because Richie knew Columbus like the back of his hand from cruising around clearing his head.

As their new school came into view the driver looked to Marcos with a slight worry in his eye. It really looked worse than he had imagined. But as always it was Richie’s job to keep morale up high. So as he parked his car he exclaimed “We have arrived in our new kingdom, let’s get to ruling!” he turned to smile at the girls “Try not to get into too much trouble, huh? Your brothers are going to bitch too much if you do” he winked at them before jumping out of the car and letting them out of the back seat.

Liv smirked, slipping out of the backseat with ease. “No promises!” She chimed, grabbing Trixie’s hand and pulling her away towards the front entrance of their new “school”... if you could even call it that.

“Hey, Richie, keep my brother from making a fool of himself and Aiden: don’t be a bad influence.” Trixie waved goodbye, hooking her arm around Liv.

“We’ll meet you guys back here at the end of the day, see you later!” The blonde called over her shoulder as the two disappeared into the mass of students.

Aiden shook his head with a laugh, stretching out his legs after being cramped in the backseat for the majority of the ride. As much as he loved his sister, leaving her to her own devices was… risky. The boy took a good look around for the first time, the other cars in the parking lot signaling that they were not in the Emerald City anymore and unfortunately transported back to Kansas. This is Rosefell? I always passed by here and thought it was a condemned mental institution.”

Richie just shrugged his shoulders before grabbing his bag and casually throwing it over his back. “Let’s just… you know… go in” he laughed at his own lack of enthusiasm and started to lead the trio towards the school entrance. As he looked around he tried to look as pleasant as he could smiling at the new faces trying to make as good of an impression as possible.

While his friends were in a rush to enter the awful building, Marcos scanned the lot and spotted someone hiding in their car. He grinned, “Let’s pick up a little mouse first.”

The blonde boy followed Marcos’ eyes to the familiar white Fiat that sat on the opposite end of the parking lot and a smile instantly appeared and lit up his face. She was here! Deciding to be selfish, Aiden turned to his friends a little too eagerly. “I’ll go and get her! You guys go ahead and scope things out. We’ll be over in a few.” He stated all too quickly before pivoting his heel and sauntering over to where Fiamma was parked.

Richie raised an eyebrow as he watched the normally lazy Aiden spring into action with renewed vigor as he almost jogged across the parking lot. He stared after him for a while before continuing on with Marcos. “We should find the people that are supposed to show us around” he fished his phone out to check his emails again “Mines named... eeeh… Eleanor Roberts, who did you get?”

“Man, you got a girl. Lucky. I got this guy named JayVaughn… let’s find your person first.”

════════════⋆★⋆════════════

Ellie was wide awake well before her first alarm rang. In fact, she was already in the bathroom putting on makeup when the familiar chimes of her phone sounded, indicating on a normal day that it was time to get out of bed. But today being the first day of school- not to mention the first day of the brunette’s senior year- meant that it was not just a regular day and she was stressed about it.

So many thoughts were running through the girl’s head that prevented her from getting a good night’s sleep. Most of them were centered around test scores, portfolio reviews, acceptances and rejections, but others were focused on tuition fees and purchasing supplies and the vast emptiness of her own wallet. The first day of school brought all of these anxieties to the surface in a way that they hadn’t been illuminated before- the final countdown was beginning and Ellie was running out of time. No matter how hard she worked, she always felt like she was one step behind where she needed to be when it came to her creative prowess as well as her finances. And those fears kept her up at all hours.

On top of all of the nerves she was already feeling about the beginning of her final year of high school, Ellie was also preoccupied with the intricacies of needing to make a good first impression. The students of Liberty High across town started at Rosefell today after their school shut down unexpectedly over the summer, which meant the brunette had more people she needed to appease and impress. The girl wasn’t popular in the slightest, but she didn’t want to fall to the bottom of the barrel when these new kids showed up, especially after hearing from her only Liberty friend, Christian, about how they dressed and acted on their campus previously. And so, the nerves and lack of sleep worked hand in hand to give Ellie ample time to get dressed and ready for the day.

She had picked her outfit the other evening- some of her best thrifted finds- but spent a decent amount of time in the bathroom applying products and powders to her fair skin to improve her complexion. If there was any day to be fortunate for good genes, it was today, as luckily not one pimple or blemish sullied her delicate features. With one final look in the mirror, satisfied with her appearance, Ellie grabbed her backpack and sketchbook before bounding down the stairs to find something quick for breakfast.

When she reached the bottom of the steps she was pleasantly surprised to be met with the delicious scent of pancakes that were sizzling on the stovetop, her mother standing in front of the burner flipping each one when they were golden brown and fluffy. With a warm smile, Ellie rested her chin on her mother’s shoulder and hugged her from behind before taking a plate and helping herself. “You didn’t have to make me breakfast you know.” She commented, standing at the kitchen island and digging in before her food got cold.

“I had a few minutes to spare- besides, it’s your last first day of school! I wanted to do something special.” Her mother Jennifer replied, continuing to make the rest of the batch of batter in order to stock the freezer with leftovers for the next few mornings. It made no sense to Ellie why Rosefell Elementary started later than the High School did, but nonetheless she was appreciative that it gave her mother, the Elementary School nurse, extra time to keep the house somewhat in order. “Your father had to go to the shop early this morning, but he told me to tell you to have a great day at school and he can’t wait to hear all about it tonight at dinner.”

Ellie smirked and nodded, continuing to enjoy the fresh stack of pancakes that sat before her. She was always appreciative that her parents worked hard to provide for their family, and didn’t mind that every now and again her mom and dad couldn’t be around for everything. They tried their best, and that was what mattered. The girl ate quickly, wanting to get to the school before the parking lot got too busy, and when she was finished took her plate over to the sink to clean and dry it. Working at the Yellow Rose Diner for all of her high school years had given the brunette a new appreciation for everything her mother did when she was a kid, so she always made a point to clear and wash her own dishes, even when she was running late.

“Thanks for breakfast, Mom, but I have to go show some of the Liberty kids around before my first class...” Ellie slung her bag over her shoulder and pressed her sketchbook against her chest. “Miki Park and Richard Diedrikson.” the brunette recited out loud, having committed the two names to memory. “Don’t you hate that I volunteer for just about everything?” She mused with a laugh.

Her mother chuckled, turning off the stove before walking over to where her daughter stood and pressing a light kiss on her forehead. “My sweet girl, you just always have to put everyone else before yourself, don’t you?” The older woman offered her daughter a smile before handing her the car keys that she had previously flung across the kitchen counter the day before.

“One day, karma is going to come back to do some amazing things for me. Until then, I’m at everyone else’s service. Love you!” Ellie chimed, blowing her mother a kiss before disappearing out the door towards her car, which she had lovingly named Cammy the Camry. Starting up the ignition, the brunette cautiously rolled out of the driveway and within minutes she was pulling into the Rosefell parking lot. As she found a spot and cut the engine, she took a breath and regained her composure, glimpsing at her reflection in the rearview mirror. “You’ve got this.” The girl murmured to herself- Lilith had gone on for hours once about mantras and manifesting your future, and for once, her friend had listened to her ramblings and took the advice in stride.

Ellie slipped out of her car, shutting and locking the door before waltzing over to her and Lil’s spot. It was a picnic table in front of the school that was underneath the shadiest tree- the two of them spent hours there when it was nice out, so much so that most people knew to avoid that specific table since the girls had claimed it. She could see that her best friend was a little bit preoccupied with Spike, Minty, Melissa, Rico, and some other people she didn't recognize, but knew she’d make her way over to their spot eventually. In the meantime, the brunette flipped open her sketchbook to the piece she had been working on for the past few days and continued to add to it, eraser shavings quickly appearing on the page as she refined her work.

After a few minutes, she looked up to see what was taking Lilith so long. Instead of meeting her friend’s eye, Ellie’s gaze was captured by a fancy looking Cadillac that had just rolled into the parking lot filled with who she knew were Liberty students. She watched as they filed out one by one and began walking towards the school…. which is when she saw him, as he sauntered confidently past the groups of students who seemed to move out of his path. A tall blonde who just didn’t look real, an adonis who she had never seen before but wished she had. He politely nodded and offered his pearly whites to those he passed by, and just for a second, he and Ellie made eye contact. And he smiled.

At first, she thought he was looking at someone else, but only after realizing the smile was indeed meant for her, Ellie felt a flutter in her chest and smirked back at the mystery boy before quickly looking down at her sketchbook to hide the blush that crept up on her cheeks.

Maybe things this year wouldn’t be so bad after all...

i just want you guys to know i wrote this shit at 3 AM

Samantha was like a lost deer in the middle of a forest as she scanned around for Joanne. The streamer wanted to keep moving but she'd just found out that Joanne was on her way via text. She was definitely a little antsy, which was probably a massive understatement. Samantha had been tapping her phone against her hand so much that there was a red welt that was starting to develop. On top of that, she was also fidgeting a bit, bouncing side to side as she waited for Joanne to finally show up. She really had no idea as to why she was so nervous. Was it because this was going to be the first time she was ever going to meet someone off the internet? She'd dealt with her fair share of people as a gamer and a streamer, but the amount of nervous energy radiating from her was enough to cook a steak.

A few minutes felt like a decade to Samantha while she waited for Joanne to get to her, and the longer she stood there the more she felt like she was getting stared at. Were people staring at her? Samantha wasn't entirely sure, but she wasn't surprised if she was. It was getting harder and harder to go unnoticed the bigger her stream got. The way things were looking, that wasn't going to be stopping anytime soon. There were a bunch of thoughts racing through her head as she waited for Joanne to show up and finally break the digital barrier that was between them. However, Samantha was starting to sink into them a bit, remaining relatively stationary near the parking lot exit, before she heard an all-too-familiar, yet unfamiliar voice call out her name.

"Sammy?"

Samantha's eyes darted behind her, her head soon following as she saw what was absolutely, undeniably, Joanne Lynn in the flesh. "Oh shi-!" Samantha barely uttered, before she was met with a hug big enough to create a shockwave throughout the city of Columbus, Ohio. Samantha also didn't expect Joanne to be so strong. As tight and enjoyable the hug was, she felt like she was going to suffocate if Joanne held on any longer. Not like she minded, but she was definitely expecting something a bit softer. Soon after, Joanne finally let go and Samantha was able to breathe a bit more freely once again. There was a smile on Samantha's face as the realization that she really was meeting Joanne was sinking in, even more so now that Joanne was apparently crying.

"Oh- don't cry! Nooo, you're gonna make me cry!" Samantha chuckled, feeling her eyes start to get a little misty. Whether or not those were real tears, however, that was up to Samantha to figure out. "I can say the same for you!" Samantha sighed, "I don't know what to say either. This is all soo overwhelming." Samantha took a deep breath to compose herself, "It's so good to finally meet you!" Samantha's eyes then transferred to two guys standing nearby. Maybe they were Joanne's friends?

Clearing her throat, she turned toward the two guys behind Joanne, reaching a hand out to both of them to shake. "Are these your friends, Joanne?" Samantha asked curiously, before flashing a smile at them, "Hi, I'm Samantha! It's great to meet you guys!" Samantha greeted, a slight tinge of manufactured and prefabricated laced into the greeting as she awaited their reply.

So far so good, right?

Things were going swell, for five seconds of him being precariously parked in one of the lanes just so he could hit on a hot redhead. First off, some girls talk too damn much. They had a way of elongating their point with filler words in a spiel that could be said with a simple 'fuck you'. Secondly, they thought they were way more clever than they actually were, using the lollipop to distract him from whatever the hell was coming out of their mouth.

She did have nice lips though...

When Juno gave him a compliment in return, he grinned, "This tie is the shit, and yeah, my eyes is what gets 'em." Spike winked at her. Clearly, everything she said went in one ear and out the other. Hey, at least she calls him DeVito. That guy is a really great dude. Not only because of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but also that legend has worthy performances in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Big Fish, and so much more.

What a great guy.

He perked up in his seat when another pretty lady came into the picture. Neither of them knew each other, but surely he was allowed to appreciate the sight he saw. Nice tanned skin, a booty to shake, and a build that could put a lot of other girls to shame. Damn, she was fine too. He shined his teeth and casually waved when Juno introduced him as DeVito. She went by Ems. Noted. His stare was short lived when Lilith shouted at him, "Yo Spike! What’s up, dude?!”

"Fucking Christ." He muttered under his breath. Nothing against Lil, but he was starting to realize this was a blaring place to have his car situated. He was like a goddamn beacon of light for all the female insects to fly to. He was conflicted. Was he into it or was there just too many girls around him for his liking? On top of that, there she went calling him by his name, so now these two hot strangers could put a name to his face. Ugh. He liked the added mystery of being called DeVito. "... just giving out some candy. Killin' all the birds with one stone."

While the attention was great, being surrounded by all this estrogen was exasperating when they watched him with judgement in their eyes. Of course, this wasn't enough for him this lovely morning. Of course, Fatal Attraction, a devil incarnated, would come just in the nick of time to assert her dominance. HITTING his grandpa's car, like it didn't mean a thing to him. Then and only then did she reach over him to get her drink, letting him smell her delectable scent and feel her skin against his face. "Of course I got your order right. What, like it's hard? You're predictable, Minty." Her focus didn't last long because it looked like she had suddenly met a long lost sister, or some shit.

Irritable, his eyebrows furrowed, as he rubbed his temple with his fingers. Growling, he called back out to Minty, "YOU'RE WELCOME!" No manners. He went out of his way to get her a drink, after she had sex with all his friends in a bouncy house. The fuck? No appreciation at all.

His last straw came in the form of obnoxious-hot-guy-I'll-serenade-you-with-my-guitar RICO. In his head, he intentionally made Rico's name sound melodramatic, adding emphatic assertion in the form of discontent. Spike's dislike for this charismatic, lover boy was solely because he made ladies swoon by existing. He's loved by everyone and has no enemies and is like all around good. The fuck is this? Bullshit! No one was that perfect. Not even the good Christian girls were perfect.

Okay yeah, fuck this shit. He needed to get outta here. Just when he was going to take his car off of park, and Rico almost got ran over (damn, he should've), Melissa strutted into the picture to give Spike grief and a lecture. Instead of reacting calmly and obediently to the Queen of Thorns, Spike slammed his palm on the car's horn and let it go on for a long minute, "You're right. Fucking off now!" Releasing the horn, not giving a proper goodbye to anyone, he put his car in reverse, pushed on the gas pedal, and decided to take a longer detour to the gym to avoid the crowd. Once he was able to turn his car around, he drove back to the lot entrance, just to go around the parked cars into the lane over. As he past the group once more, but this time at a distance, and in a different lane (cars separated them), he honked his horn again, "Welcome to Rosefell, you're gonna' love it!"

Finally, Spike parked, grabbed all his things (candy, backpack, his skates), and rushed into the gym. With peace, he dropped his things on the bench in the boys' locker room and rested his head on a locker. This place was going to get crowded and he had yet to decide if he was happy about it or not. Recalling Minty's reaction to seeing the redhead, he straightened himself and made a fist, "Who the fuck is Juno?"

If Melissa wasn't awake before, the blaring of Spike's horn made sure that she was now. It rattled every bone in her body and left her with a ringing in her ears that Quasimodo himself would have to marvel and nod approvingly at. As Spike started rolling away, she questioned whether or not instead of making things up to him for being such a cow earlier, she would instead have to find some way to get even at him for destroying her hearing and not even having the courtesy to blast WAP while doing it.

Not only that, he promptly bailed out on the large group of ladies that had now gathered in front of her. At least Minty and Lilith wouldn't need their hands held or anything. Not like... biker girl and... redhead. At least the redhead had the right hair to fit in at Rosefell. Still, now it was up to Melissa to be the shepherd. Unless she lucked out and these two girls were assigned to Min and Lil. That would be somewhat lucky. But, that would also imply that Melissa had luck.

"I'm so sorry you all had to hear that," the Queen of Thorns apologized. "Usually, Spike is a little more courteous with how he uses his exuberance. Well, if you are very good at lip reading after that display and can make out what I'm saying, I can answer any questions to the best of my ability." Melissa feigned a smile after getting that out.

The less the better.

“you’re a kingmaker…” - Trey Marcus

Somewhat blind sided by Joanne’s hug, DeShawn nontheless reciprocated; wrapping his huge arms around her and pulling her in tight. He very much considered Jo to be a positive presence in his life. She was a kind hearted girl with a lot of baggage but he didn’t mind, Dee had developed a reputation for being able to carry other people's problems on his broad shoulders and Jo was no different. However on the flip side, she was a confidant of his; whenever he was struggling and needed someone to talk to, Joanne was his first port of call, usually down at the shitty ball park falling apart near her house where they would shoot hoops, shoot the shit and sometimes shoot a ball at a passing Liberty kid car which may or may not now be parking in a school as they spoke.

It was somewhat nice to have a platonic girl friend for Dee. That’s not to say he didn’t find Jo attractive, girl was fine. Especially after a few games and she got her swear on and whatnot but it wasn’t like that for them. It was a deep respect they held for one another and on that rare occasion he would not be in training, Dee would find himself at some random hole in the wall, listening to Rico try and chat up a waitress, all the while trying to support Jo at the open mic she was playing at. It was a weird old fucking world.

As they separated, the two were joined by the one and only, JayVaugn Spencer.

”Who do I gotta flirt with to get the chance to ride shotgun in one of those, let alone drive it around?"”

”Likely anyone wearing Gucci or Prada my dude”

DeShawn responded to his fellow Rosefell Knight. JayVaughn was a good kid and he was one hell of a Wide Receiver. The hands on this guy in the clutch when it’s fourth quarter and the clock is winding down; ain’t no better feeling underneath those bright Friday lights than watching Jayvo catch a touchdown...besides Dee sacking some poor QB1 or the soft sweet touches of one Melissa Elliott in her little cheerleader uniform. Regardless there was a brotherhood amongst the team and JJ was an integral part of that dynamic. Like most others, he pissed the big Linebacker off to no end but that was part of his charm. Unlike Hunter and Spike, Jay was being annoying because he was trying to understand D, he was trying to get past the Walls...wall? And get into his heart. Hunter and Spike were just annoying for annoying sake and the amount of times that DeShawn had pulled all three of them out of harm's way in the short time he had been in Columbus was ridiculous.

Without provocation, Dee suddenly felt a strong grip on his shoulder and force like non other he had felt bringing him down to almost a knee; it was Jo.

"Anyway! My best friend, who I met online, goes to Liberty and this is the first time I'm meeting her. I love this girl to death... So...if any of you even try to sleep with her, you'll know what's coming”

Immediately, his mind conjured up thoughts of castration, of being hung, drawn and quartered and then his insides being used for guitar string and his teeth as picks for said strings. The mere thought of losing his manhood caused the sensation of physical pain to run throughout his body. Shaking off the feeling of imminent death, number 44 of the Rosefell Knights followed the small blonde and his fellow football player deeper into the the parking lot and after a few false alarms it seemed like Jo found the girl she called her best friend; Sam.

"Are these your friends, Joanne? Hi, I'm Samantha! It's great to meet you guys!"

DeShawn offered out his hand to hers and shook it as gently as possible but still firm. His palm alone engulfed her tiny fingers. ”DeShawn; it’s good to meet you Sam” He could see why Joanne was afraid; shawty was fine but a promise was a promise so Dee wouldn’t put any work in, at least not for a while. Jayvo on the other hand, brother was a hound who loved to jump more than his master's leg. For Christmas he was going to buy that boy a sign that said “BEWARE OF DOG”. Catching sight of a certain Queen of Thorns down the other end of the parking lot, Dee took his leave. ”Imma love you and leave you, fam. I’ll catch you in a bit”

Making his way to the other side of the lot, 44 parked himself beneath the shade of a great big tree. Dee watched the blonde bombshell he knew as Queen as she laid down the law and asserted her dominance over her brand new Liberty subjects. Damn, he forgot how good homegirl looked in her cheerleading outfit, then again Melissa looked good in everything...and especially out of everything. Was theirs a romance for the ages? Probably not. Yet it worked for them as it was. He, a potential ticket to the big time she always dreamed of. Her, a warm and limber body for him to work out his stress and anxiety. There is a spark of something more; DeShawn felt it but his family didn’t take to Missy all that well; not that he cared. He was his own damn self and if he wanted to propose to this girl he would, ain’t no thing stopping him from doing anything he pleased; the one great lesson he learned from the Soulman.

West Baltimore - Three Years Ago

“If I teach you anything boy imma teach you this, ain’t nobody gonna tell you what to do. Beyond the street, beyond the fucking game, you’re a kingmaker, Dee. And you gonna make your own self into a damn King, ya feel me young’un?”

Trey was high on his own supply, staring down from his throne at his young son DeShawn as he made a feeble attempt at doing his homework. ”I feel you” The child responded, not looking up from his algebra papers.

“Such disrespect” Trey mumbled as he got up from his chair and made his way over to the fridge. “Can’t even look at your old man when he talking at you. Fucking…” Each passing word seemed more slurred than the one that came before. “I’m the Soulman and my son ain’t got no goddamn soul. He ain’t hard, you hear me boy you ain’t hard!” The venom continued as Dee refused to move his gaze to meet his father. “Ain’t built for the street, he soft. Doing his damn algebra when he should be out there grinding, out there slinging...you ain’t made for this Dee”

Unable to bite his tongue any longer, young DeShawn raised his head from his textbook and spouted bile right back at his snake of a father”Who’d want to be this if they could be anything else, dad?”

In that moment, the room fell deathly silent for what felt like an eternity. At least until the fridge door closed and Trey launched a six pack of beer at his teenage sons head, missing by mere inches. He darts cross the room, following the trail of the cans and threw himself over the table, grabbing Dee by the collar and pulling him to his feet. DeShawn struck out at his fathers face but he simply smiled and shrugged it off, a combination of adrenaline and drugs. “You shut your dirty mouth” He hissed. “You need to keep that damn thing closed or I swear on your beautiful mothers eyes I’m gonna rip your fucking tongue out. This here is us Dee, you and me. We ain’t need and we ain’t got nobody else. You’re my blood boy but that won’t stop me from throwing you off of a balcony in Franklin Terrace if you disrespect me again”

He didn’t want to interrupt Melissa as she did her thing; so in the brief moment that their eyes met, DeShawn offered her a million dollar smile and a look in his eye that she knew all too well.

Christian Barker was probably the only student that was actually looking forward to the merging of Rosefell and Liberty High.

He had already landed himself a spot on the Rosefell High football team, and from what he could tell from practice, Friday night’s game was going to be really good. It was tradition for Christian to throw the victory party after Liberty's first game - and he planned to do the same at Rosefell. Hopefully Rosefell could pull off a win themselves. Low morale sucked for a party.

Christians morning routine had always been simple. Wake up, go jogging for a bit, shower, eat breakfast and then school. A few text messages would be sent here and there. He had to make sure Juno’s anxiety was in check, wish Ellie good luck on her first day, and read up on the group chat for the football team. Social media was full of first day outfit selfies, so Christian only thought it was natural to post his own picture to show off his dad rock band t-shirt and stylishly worn out jeans.

After finishing his routine and saying a few words to his family, Christian was ready to face the day.

The drive to Rosefell took about twenty-five minutes. Upon arriving, Christian did his best to run over anyone while dodging cars and busses as needed. Could poor kids drive?

Apparently not.

Once safely parked, Christian grabbed his things from the car and looked around for any sign of a familiar face. Juno and Emily were at the other side of the parking lot, but they seemed to be preoccupied with the rest of the crowd while some guy honked the hell out of his horn at them.

Shrugging, Christian made his way to the entrance of the school. He was here this morning to meet his guide - someone named Cael - and going inside the school seemed to be the best way to find the person who was supposed to be guiding him.

Once inside, Christian spotted a table covered in those cheesy ’hello my name is’ tags, school maps, and the like. After scribbling his name onto one of the tags in sharpie, Christian pondered on what to do next.

”Say… do any of you guys know where I could find Cael?”

The students behind the table shook their heads, causing Christian to sigh in minor defeat.

How the hell was he supposed to find this Cael person?

"That's one way to start a morning."

——————————————————
Park Manor
The following dialogue is all spoken in Korean.

The sun beamed through the window, the faint sounds of the groundskeeper watering the garden outside could be heard. Jackson shifted his position as he laid face down, the soft fuzzy feeling on his face along with the hardened texture underneath, he must have forgot his pillow again. He scrunched up his face and flipped over and the sun was now hitting his face directly.

"Hey... Jeong-hae... " A voice called out followed by multiple hits upon his back, the hits seemed to be lazy and as tired as Jackson. Jackson stretched his arms out and heard soft a thunk! above his head. He slowly opened his eyes to see an empty bottle of soju resting on it's side upon the fuzzy surface. His eyes squinted now realising where he was but he did not seem to act on it until the same voice spoke once again, "It's a monday, Jeong-hae." Jackson's eyes shot open and he immediately pushed himself to sit up. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked around the room, he was in Heather's room who also looked to be hung over, and Stephanie was fully arched back on the couch in the same room. They really should not have drank the night before.

"(informal) Dad is going to kill me, sister!" Jackson exclaimed as she scrambled to his feet, he only had one bottle of it but he is such a lightweight that that is all it takes.

"Hey! Why you being so loud and informal?!" Exclaimed Heather giving him a smack at the back of the head, "I'll go with you." Heather then looked Jackson up and down before a knock on the door was heard. "Come in!" Heather called out, a well-groomed man in his early 40's entered the room in service uniform.

"I called earlier but you lot seemed to have been asleep, your father has been waiting at the table for all of you for breakfast, especially you master Jeong-hae." Said the man, his hands elegantly behind him.

"I'm heading down now Hyeong-in, thank you." Jackson replied, the man then bowed and left the room. Jackson then looked at Heather then at Stephanie, "Good luck to her I guess." Jackson stated before fixing his hair and walking to the door. He beckoned Heather to come close since they were going down together; they were a mess, wrinkled pajamas, messed up hair, and both reeking of alcohol. Neither of them could even remember why they were drinking last night. They clumsily made their way down the grand staircase and towards the dining hall. The sight of their father at the end of the table was unsettling, Heather felt her heart drop, and Jackson knew this was going to be hell. Their father turned his head towards the two and the two immediately stood straight like they were in the military and was being yelled at their commanding officer.

"36 minutes later for breakfast, now that's a new record." Said the man, his intimidating presence made the air feel thick, he then gestured to their places on the table, "Sit and eat, your food is getting cold." Jackson and Heather looked at each other with fear in their eyes before going over to sit down. He let Heather sit down but when Jackson was about to sit he called. "Jeong-Hae! Come here." His voice boomed in the dining hall and Jackson froze for a second before turning to him and walking towards him. He stood firmly to his side before he asked, "Tell me, how old are you?" Jackson could not even maintain eye contact, he looked down at his feet and softly answered, "Eighteen..." his father's head then moved to face him, he was very displeased. "I cannot hear you!" The man yelled. Jackson quaked in his slippers as heather uncomfortably watched from where she was sat, "Eighteen!" Jackson exclaimed. His father then went to take a sip of his coffee before standing up, looking straight at Jackson, "At such a young age, you come here late and reeking of alcohol, this I expect from your Hae-Son but you?" He asked, Jackson must have not picked up that it was rhetorical because he answered.

"Sir I was just-" Suddenly he was looking down at the table and there was a searing pain on his left cheek. His father raised his hand again to throw another slap but was stopped by his mother, "Stop!" His mother exclaimed, she was dressed and ready for work, thank God she caught them before she left for work, who knows what would have happened? "Jackson, please go eat you food now." She said warmly, giving him a quick smile before pulling his father off to the side to have a talk. Jackson then awkwardly and quietly ate his now room temperature breakfast with Heather.

After they had ate both their parents came back, their father seemed to have calmed down, and their mother said her good byes and gave some embraces to her children before heading off to work. His father looked at Jackson and asked, "Are you being driven or driving to school?" He asked, Jackson thought for a second before replying, "Driving, sir." his father then nodded at him and continued, "Take your Mercedes whenever you go to school, it is a good year for Mercedes." Said the man before walking off to the upstairs. Jackson sighed and finished the rest of his food, he did not say a word nor did Heather. Hyeong-in also was kind enough to give them medicine for their headaches.

After eating he made his way back to his room, doing his daily routine of washing himself, skincare routine, and his hygiene. He looked at himself in the mirror, his cheek had gotten red from the slap, there was a distinctive bruise on his abdomen which looked recent and definitely came from his father, also a few bruised spots on his arms which came from rigorous ice skating sessions. He then got dressed in a simple outfit and a long grey coat over everything. He put on his glasses and checked himself on the mirror to see if the outfit had any imperfections. But the glaring problem was the red almost hand shaped mark on his face, Juno would be baby him and he does not need that right now, he put on a little bit of make up to hide it but looking closely at it, it was still there. He gave a quick fake smile at the mirror before fixing his hair a little and heading off. He made sure he had everything he needed before he made his way to the front door.

His silver Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was delivered to the driveway by the front door by their personal valet service. Jackson nodded at him before getting in and driving to Rosefell. Jackson was entirely sure how exactly this mixing of Rosefell and Liberty students is going to work but when he looked down at his phone to see the name of his partner: Rico. He had no expectations of this guy, after all, these Rosefell kids are actual walking fish who does not know what is valuable or the difference between up or down. He gripped tightly on the steering wheel before speeding off a bit faster.

——————————————————
Rosefell High
Dialogue is no longer in Korean unless specified.

Upon arrival he looked at the sea of people, he honked for people to make some room since people really decided it was okay to block the road. His horn pressing got more aggressive that everybody made sure to steer clear from him. He watched a few people almost get run over, a few motorcycle girls, one of them was definitely Emily, and one of them looked like their Motorcycle was some zombie brought back from the dead or something. He turned into the parking lot, finding himself a parking spot, he stopped the door and opened the gull door, leaving the driver's seat. Some random Rosefell kid walked up to him as soon as he got out of his car saying he really likes his car and thinks it's cool.

Jackson stared him down and towered over the poor kid, "You like the car? If you scratch it, it is going to cost more than your entire life ever has." He said, scaring the kid away, "(KR) Idiot..." He muttered before walking off towards the school. He looked around to try and find Juno, or Emily, or even Christian at this point. He pulled up his phone and started texting Juno to know where she was but before he could text her, he spotted her in the crowd; being tall has it's perks. He moved through the crowd with an aura, people were actively avoiding him, and he definitely appreciated that in a way.

He walked up to her, looming over behind her like some weird demon kid. He blinked a few times before saying, "Hey, Juno-na. (Play on 'Noona')" called out Jackson from beside her, he always enjoyed calling her that even though she is not older. Now he just needed to keep a conversation in a way so that she does not point out the red marking because that would be a real slap on the face if it was called out in public. Jackson did not even notice Emily the first time, he may be an asshole, but he has manners (somewhat) he let out a quick "Oh, Hey Emily." followed by a light bow as a sign of respect. He did not know who the rest of the people around the two were so he did not care, nor did he plan to unless they say so. In which case he will show some respect, or not, it is Jackson we are talking about here.

Rosefell already looks like it is going to get crazy fast, good thing Jackson can handle anything, except a perfect salchow.

“Is she at work again?” Colin’s youngest sister, Kirstin, whined before he even managed to step out of the door of his messy room.

“Why the hell are ya asking me?” He spat back as he shoved his way past his sister. She was petite and tiny, so it was a feat easily achieved.

Colin walked down the hall, dragging his feet along the tiled floor, which felt colder than they usually did.

You’d think, for it being still technically summer, that it would be at least somewhat warm, but when his siblings often ganged up on him for control of the thermostat, which always had the AC at a minimum of 73°F, Colin had no choice but to suffer in subtle coldness until he could feel the brush of the morning summer heat hit him in the face.

Somewhere between him getting to the fridge and his lips touching the jug of orange juice, a sensation that made him think about whether or not the juice was bad, Colin heard his sister from behind again.

Colin!

He rolled his eyes and, with a frustrated sigh, set the jug of OJ on the counter and turned around. “What now, Sin?” His attempt to give her his full attention was barely half as his smirk annoyed her more.

“How are we going to get to school? Mom usually takes us and it’s our first day!”

“I guess you’ll have to take the bus as everyone else does!”

Without looking, Colin heard the puffing from Kirstin’s mouth. If he was looking at her, he’d say that her cheeks were puffed outward in that pouting way that her “idols” did and with her arms across her chest. Not that it would work on him, but Colin made her sweat for a few moments and turned around.

“I’m kidding!” He wasn’t, but if he let her do that any longer, she would have a permanent pouting bitch faceand nobody around here wants that. “I’ve got the keys to Rhonda’s--”

“So, that’s where they went!”

The boy chuckled, amused, as his second younger sister came up from behind him. She intentionally shoved him and this would only further his expression to the point where he took a large step forward and flicked the back of her head as he passed her.

“Asshole!” She exclaimed as she took a seat at the kitchen table, grabbing a red apple from the bowl that had an assortment of fruit. As she took a bite and Colin took a seat opposite of her, she said, “I guess you can drive if you want!”

“Oh, how kind of you!” His response resulted in Rhonda sticking her tongue at him in a charming way unique to Colin.

As Colin sat there, trying his best not to feed into his worst impulses and further antagonize Rhonda by kicking her under the table, Colin ceased after a few minutes and let his mind wander into thought. He thought about how their mother worked consistently during the week and the only times he saw her was when she had her evening show, but other than that, she was out the door early for meetings. The weekend was the only time any of them saw Caroline Brady in person.

Not that Colin gave two shits one way or the other. He knew she had to work and didn’t blame her for that. But, somewhere deep down, he might even admit he resented her a little bit for it.

But that’s not something he’d like to think about right now.

“Alright! Eat up and let’s get going, or else the traffic will be a bitch.”

Even before they had pulled up to the school, Colin knew there would be a bit of a line. It was to be expected, of course, because of the influx of Liberty asswipes infesting Rosefell. Just the thought of those people roaming the same halls as him, being in his class, eating at his table, being anywhere near him, made Colin want to thrash them. Even the mental image of those royal wannabes made him take a hefty chug of his “water”, which really, was vodka in an Aquafina water bottle.

As the honks behind him came in furiously and the pace in which the cars in front of him progressed was slower than the turtle vs the hare, Colin kept honking at the cars in front of him, which in turn made them yell back at him.

“Yeah, like that’ll make the cars go any faster,” Rhonda commented. She sat in the front passenger seat.

He didn’t feel like appeasing her ego with a response, so he just glanced at the mirror and saw the twins in the back. And, as it was expected, while Sinead had her face glued to her phone, snapping selfie after selfie, Shea was glued to the book in his hands. He couldn’t process just how different both were from each other, but he also didn’t question it. In their own right, they were about to find out their place in high school.

And looking at them, knowing they were going into high school without any baggage, Colin just couldn’t help himself. That masochistic habit of his to painfully remind himself of Cosima at least once a week took its sweet time slithering up his back, chills spreading throughout his arms and up to his neck.

She would have been eighteen by now. The thought came as the line was moving and Colin pressed on the gas pedal.

Contrary to how Colin usually was in the mornings, he didn’t speak. He didn’t respond to Rhonda, didn’t bother taking the time to look at them. He just got to the parking lot, parked in the closest available spot.

As he got out and popped the trunk open, he grabbed his backpack and waited until his siblings grabbed theirs. The trunk closed and he gave them all a stern look. “Be here ten minutes after the final bell. And, if it can be helped, don’t cause too much trouble, yeah? I’d hate to get detention for kicking someone’s ass in your defense.” He noted as a joke, which was only received with mixed reactions. “Geez, I’m kidding. Just have a good first day, okay?”

As he pulled his shades, which were hanging from his Chicago Bulls jersey, and put them on, Colin walked through the big red doors and immediately a sense of pride passed through his face. He took a quick sip of his vodka, shaking it as he realized his breakfast was almost gone.

“Shit,” he cursed. It was rather telling in the tone of his voice that he didn’t think he drank so much already. “Might have to get some more during lunch.” He noted under a breath.

It took him a few seconds to redirect his mind and clung to the walls, leg against it as his foot was flatly placed against what felt like the fake steel lockers. He stood there trying to remember if he read that Email or not. He remembered there had been one, but between his mom barely being around and him not giving two shits to check his school Email, Colin wasn’t in any position to remember who he had to show around. He just remembered there was a mention of Rosefell students serving as guides.

Yeah, it made him want to throw up, too.

“Oh, what-the-fuck-ever!” Colin cursed his way over to a table and after letting his eyes survey the table for half of a minute, he found his nametag.

He grimaced with the expression variety of Johnny Depp when he saw the cartoonish kind of name tag they chose. It was cheap but the fact it read “pleasure to meet you” at the bottom made Colin roll his eyes. “This is so lame,” he muttered, eying one of the teachers who absolutely heard him (maybe that’s because he intentionally spoke loud enough for the asshat to hear him).

As he walked away and made sure the sticker stuck to his jersey, he was at least grateful that the nametag matched his red jersey and dark pants. But really? Hello, my name is Colin, pleasure to meet you? Talk about fucking lame.

"Did you know dysfunction is a form of function, Caspian? Whether its because of a psychosis or in your case, anger, you're dealing with something and you turn to rage as a means of survival. You deliberately choose to avoid more cerebral reactions and whatever that reason may be is now your function. How you cope. Ah, but we won't have a solution until we discover why your dysfunction is true. We can treat your symptoms, but to find a cure would take much longer... I need time with you. I'm a firm believer that talking things out will not only help us find the root cause to your dysfunction, but also help you understand yourself. I know you think whatever you tell me will reach your father, but I can assure you, it won't. Trust me when I say I'm here for you. No one else, but you."
~

Sitting on his Villa Valencia bed that reminds one of the look and feel of old world Spain, with distinctive marquetry and intricate embellishments, Caspian Grey, who was sleep deprived, in only but his black boxer briefs, stared at the design of his vintage Karastan rug. The past two weeks came and went, completely and utterly in a blur. Eventful, but something he hoped had ended differently. His therapist had told him he had gotten so frustrated at his father that he broke his mother's favorite Cloisonné decorative vase, the one with the birds and flowers. The words of his therapist were foreign, as if the stranger was weaving a tall tale and Cas was the main character in this bizarre fable.

Where there should be memories, there was blank space. Static in his brain, nothing more and nothing less. He felt like if there were answers for his 'dysfunction', he would've found them already. See, Caspian was aware he forgot, he was aware that there were periods of time he couldn't remember no matter how hard he tried. There were moments in his life that if he truly, deeply needed to dig deep and retrieve, he would need to find bread crumbs first. Yet, all he could find were will-o'-the-wisps leading him astray. No one wanted to provide him with information and no one wanted to help him. Instead, they made it a stranger's problem because he was 'angry'. If there was any sort of reason for his foggy, chaotic mind, it was because he suffered from insomnia and the solution was simple: give him pills, not therapy.

There was so much Caspian couldn't recall, like the fact that he didn't give his twin sister a proper goodbye before she was suddenly sent off with luggage to Emma Willard School, located in Troy, New York. He remembered the discussion of the merge of the two schools. He remembered telling his sister to leave it to him, that it would all be taken care of. He remembered preparing his points, focusing on charity, community, and a challenge, coming up with an appealing presentation that he knew his father would like. He remembered his father's cold stare and how slow and thorough he carved into his steak. He remembered his mother's lavender dress, her sitting there as a bystander, avoiding meeting her son's gaze, as his twin excused herself early, not being able to handle the tension. He remembered.

But after that point?

Nothing.

A missing page in his book.

At last, Caspian knew he would be wasting time thinking about everything and nothing at all. Instead, he would prepare for his day and take a step forward to showing his father that he could make something beautiful out of a seemingly worthless place. A waste of time, as Simeon Grey put it. Call it ideals or hope but Caspian believed that the worst circumstances could bring out one's true strengths and even a school like Rosefell deserved to be tended to — the flowers were only wilting softly. All the school needed was time, attention, and a healthy environment. There was no room for failure. For if he failed, he may not see his sister for the rest of the school year.

"Caspian, breakfast will be ready in thirty." A gravelly calm and flat male voice was heard on the other side of the door.

Looking up from the rug, the young heir exhaustingly uttered, "Are they still here?"

The man was quick to respond. "No sir, your father has left for the day and your mother is on her morning walk."

"Great. I'd like to eat in the conservatory then, please." With sudden ease washing over him, Caspian stood up and stretched his body, prepared to take on his day, repressing the knot in his stomach.

"Of course."

Acknowledging his butler's response, the young Grey dismissed the humble servant with a simple, "Thanks." From there, he was ready to take a bath, get dressed, eat food, and enter this new chapter in his story. A new chapter, without his sister. Caspian hated she wasn't at his side for this endeavor, he hated he wasn't at her side either, but there was no point in beating himself up about it. He failed her, so the only way to make it up was to keep his word and make Rosefell beautiful.

Most importantly though, he was eager to leave this barren household for half a day. Nothing against the house, it was extravagantly beautiful, historically awe-inspiring, and wondrously enchanting, but the sooner he left, the better. He didn't want to deal with his mother, who most definitely blamed him for getting Calypso shipped off, among other things. It was for the best if they left things at wordless glares. He didn't need her becoming hysterically loud and unbearable because he brought up something she didn't want to hear. In addition to that, it was unnervingly quiet, without Callie around. This godforsaken place needed her high-spirited energy and playful demeanor. Without it? It felt incredibly cold. There was no heart. So, the sooner he left, the better.
~

Since Caspian had learned about the merge, he didn't waste a second. First, he created a Rosefell High School Fund, attaching a link to the outdated school site. It would take much longer to build a foundation, finding board members to spearhead the mission that aimed to provide resources that will help increase students' upward mobility and success. For now, he simply had a place for students and parents to make donations, anonymously or not. As such, he was the first anonymous donation, in hopes that more people would want to donate, and even sent a tip to the local news station about the merge and the fund. He chose not to reveal how much he donated, but if people wanted to really know, it was nearly half a million dollars (450,000 to be exact) to cover everything he wanted, and some.

Secondly, he developed a landscape plan that would govern the care and maintenance of the Rosefell campus, so that he could continue to work in the shadows, with a small committee in charge of making his vision a reality. His donation would cover contracts with three work personnel for one year (which could be renewed depending on the success rate), the landscape superintendent and two gardeners for maintenance — any other assistance would be left for community volunteers until they raise more money — and a contract with a landscape company, covering the bases of hard landscaping, hedging, planting trees, screening, and turfing.

The cushion money would refurbish the school fountain and ideally cover installments like a greenhouse, a botanical garden, and a gazebo. Based on his calculations, he put more than enough money in the fund to cover landscaping, but if he needed to he would either convince his father for a large allowance or he'd try to get the students to participate in small school fundraisers, like a bake sale or a car wash. Any other school projects would be put on hold until he surveyed the areas that could use the support of Liberty wealth.

So yeah, one can say Caspian crammed a lot within such a short time and today was the day everything would start happening. Sitting in his station wagon, in a parking spot by shade, he looked at his watch, before peering at the lot's entrance where suddenly two large landscape trucks came in, followed by three vans, pulling up far from the school building, where the landscape superintendent was waiting for them. "Right on time," he whispered.

As if the morning wasn't already chaotic, WSYX ABC 6 came speeding in to be the first to cover the first day of the merge. Caspian had already warned Principal Jameson and VP Berkley that their presence would be needed for an interview, and if they could get a couple of students to talk about their 'excitement', even better. A couple staff members led the news team to the football field, which was the most attractive setting in this whole place. Coverage and publicity was important, for something as big as this, especially if they wanted to bring awareness to Columbus for the sake of bringing in money flow to a rundown, neglected school like Rosefell.

Nodding to himself, Caspian exited his car, wearing a short-sleeved shirt, neat trousers, and smart shoes. A lighter ensemble than usual because he wasn't trying to stand out in a black turtle neck and dress pants. He wanted to look approachable, as if he was going to a film festival or something, not some scary, edgy rich white boy. Plus if his sister was here, she would've suggested him wearing white for a change. Here the Dark Lord was wearing a white shirt and even chose to wear his glasses, which she loved to see. A good compromise, as if he had this discussion with Callie back at home.

When he saw the email with his tour guide's name, he was quick to google her. Thank god he did, because he wouldn't expect someone with such a sweet name to be so... feisty, matching her handle @feistyspice. Her Facebook was misleading, displaying a lady with a great goth aesthetic, who had a wonderful friendship with this girl she called Minty, pictures of her with her family, people from California, and general memes/interests. It was cute. Shortly after, he started going deep down the rabbit hole though, which led him to her Instagram.

To put it in simple terms, she was... confidant in a sexual way. What was that term his sister used? Lewd. Yes, his tour guide was lewd, sporting lingerie pics in distracting positions, displaying her best parts by putting the camera at an angle to make her desirable to a perverted eye, and her being touchy with people he didn't care to know. He did like the pictures that showcased her make up and hair styling talents. If anything he found that more attractive than everything else. But, Caspian wasn't one to shame a woman so if this is what makes her feel good, then who was he to judge. She was beautiful and she knew it.

When he entered the building, Caspian was taken aback at the sudden splash of color and sparkle. There was a large sign that screamed 'WELCOME TO ROSEFELL' with shades of blue, white, silver, using all the supplies under the sun you could get at a neighbor craft store like fuzzy pom poms, glitter, and paint. What a sweet gesture to use Liberty colors. Maybe his classmates would appreciate it, maybe not. Granted, Caspian would be one of the few from his school who would say he liked the red and black of Rosefell more than the blue and silver. Well, his favorite color was red, after all. On top of that statement piece, there were streamers, balloons, and more glitter. God, there was glitter everywhere. Cas would hate to be the guy responsible of cleaning this up.

His attention was ripped away from the amazon of decor around him when a boy started cursing by the sign up table. Someone really hated name tags... patiently waiting for the abrasive boy to go away, Caspian went to the table, grabbed a marker, and wrote his name in elegant handwriting that mirrored a form of calligraphy. His expression lightened when he saw Christian frustrated close by, wondering how to find his tour guide. Sliding his way beside a familiar face, who was one of the kinder boys at Liberty High, he politely asked, "Mind if I wait here with you?" He'll know his tour guide when he sees her, she was definitely not someone you can miss. His gaze went from Christian to his black pants. Damn. Glitter was on it already.

Cael’s blue 2010 Toyota Corolla rolled up to the curb outside his best friends house. A short, quick honk of the horn announced his arrival. Looking up at the pale light of the morning sky, he realized that it was probably way too early to have honked, but he’d already done it, and couldn’t take it back now. Sorry neighbors! Knowing how sleepy Rae could be, he shot her a quick text to say that he was ‘here’ as well. He sipped his salted caramel latte as he watched the front door of Rae’s house like a hawk, eager to see whatever first day of school outfit she had planned. A café au lait waited for her in the cup holder between him and the passenger seat.

Bless that poor soul who would have ever tried to wake Rae up earlier than noon that wasn’t Cael. She was triggered the second she heard the car horn from down in her basement lair bedroom, not that anyone who peeked their head in there could tell from how cluttered it was. The sound of a bunch of snakes hissing reverberated the room before the telltale lyrics of one of the most iconic My Chemical Romance songs about marching bands that there ever was. It worked like a snake charmer, where the lithe teen slithered out from her covers to reach for it at the other end of the room. Still in her pajamas with the rattiest version of bedhead yet. Unlocking it served to only blind her with the light that was Cael’s text, leaving her screeching in a very convincing pterodactyl impression for a few seconds as her tired eyes adjusted for her to read it calmly. Her foot tapped against the ground as the message processed.

Now, her boi Cael, knew her well enough to be able to piece together the timeline from when she sent her response of ‘C U SON’ to know that when she came leaping out of her front door ten minutes later with damp hair and looking like she hopped out of the tv while Coraline was playing, that she forgot that they had planned to do this. From how fast she was running to get to his car, one might have even believed that the Other Mother was inside the house trying to snatch her up, but alas she made it in record time. Opening the passenger door of the blue Corolla and plopping herself in the seat, letting her messenger bag rest by her feet, now taking a good look at Cael before letting out a low whistle. “You look like you’re about to seduce the lord of the underworld.”

Cael beamed at the compliment on his first day of school look. “Well, if Hades is hot enough and joining our student body from Liberty, then yes, I certainly am!” He smirked at his dishevelled bff and plucked her beverage out of the cup holder. Handing it to her, he said, “Drink up, we’ve got a lot of work to do before Hades and his hounds arrive. The trunk is packed full of the best collection of streamers, glitter, poster board, balloons, and more glitter that the Dollar Tree could provide, all in Liberties colors, of course.” Cael spieled as he punched the accelerator and zoomed down the road to Rosefell. “And of course, the principal granted us permission to enter the school early to decorate, so we’re all set!” He took a left turn at a shocking speed, the car feeling like it might two-wheel it around the bend. Driving with Cael was always a bit… thrilling.

“You could say that he’s hotter than hell.” Rae responded back, accepting the drink with a small raise of the cup before bravely putting it to her lips to drink because her tongue has honestly survived through enough pizza rolls fresh from the oven to be immune to hot coffee at this point, silently putting on her seatbelt in the meantime. “They can deal, besides, glitter is better than any of those blood diamonds they use as rhinestones.” She lamented with a hum, enjoying the taste of the creamy coffee she favored over all the rest, watching the scenery outside the car windows zoom past thanks to the fast stunt double type of driving Chauffeur Cael brought to the table—or road? “Little Toe really wants to smooth over the transfer so no one starts asking him questions about what happened. Which, respect to that funky cryptid man, but I’m not buying it. I honestly think there might be more there that they might be able to fill us in on.” Taking another long drink of her hot beverage with no fear of spilling it on herself and becoming disfigured, she put it back in the cup holder to put her arms up as if this was a roller coaster ride instead of drive to school with a laugh enjoying the feeling of Cael’s Fast and Furious driving skills.

“Pfft,” Cael snorted in response to her lame pun. Rae’s descriptions for people were odd, but entirely Rae, and Cael had been speaking Rae’s language for years now. “Oh, I knowww.” He replied to her musings with wide eyes as he put the car in park in the empty student parking lot. “There is something hella sketch going on with this transfer, but I have no doubt that your sleuthing skills will get to the bottom of this mystery.” He said with a wink before popping the trunk and hopping out of the car. The craft supplies had scattered around out of the bags thanks to his driving, so Cael had to take a few moments to gather everything before he and Rae had to schlep it all into the school. “I got some silver stuff to pair with the blue and white because I felt like it’d need a bit more… shimmer! Do you think they’ll mind that it’s not entirely Liberty colors?” He pondered, already worrying about the thoughts and feelings of these new students.

Rae was quick to get out of the car and put her feet back on the ground, her bag comfortably placed on her shoulder and her coffee in hand as she followed Cael to the trunk from her side, casually sipping her drink nodding along to his own observation of the suspicious transfer. A Cheshire grin forming on her lips at being flattered by her bff putting his faith in her detective abilities. “If I don't, they’ve replaced me with a clone.” She was joking for the most part about that, but at being asked about the color choices. She took a deep breath through her nose, pursing her lips, before ultimately shrugging. “Should be fine, us deviating makes it more like we’re welcoming some distant cousin back for the first time instead of us hella simpin’ for their money and trying to jedi mind trick them into thinking we are a better school than we actually are.” Taking a good chunk of the supplies into her arms, Rae grinned at Cael, gently knocking her hip into his. “Seriously, it’ll be fine. The territorial spats that are gonna go down between the wolf pack and the empusa squad are probably going to be the only real fights that come up.”

“Can’t wait!” Cael grinned. Rae was right, this transfer was going to stir up some delicious drama and gossip. Cael, for one, couldn’t wait for it all to unfold. Queen Melissa in particular was going to lose her shit… and absolutely will hate his and Rae’s decorations. “This place seems haunted this early…” Cael observed as the pair entered the school. The halls were empty and only dimly lit by the sunrise. He found a switch and flicked on some of the lights to brighten it up. There was a table set up with name tags and paperwork on it, but no one was manning it yet.

“Alright, let’s get to it!” Cael exclaimed before pulling out a roll of poster board. He unfurled it on the table and began to work his magic with paints, glue, glitter, fuzzy pom poms, and markers. At the end of it all, the signage flamboyantly read: “Welcome to Rosefell High!” in shades of blue, white, and silver. This would be his pride and joy of the whole display. “Their colors are so much prettier than ours, it’s a shame they have to switch to the edgelord knight’s colors.”

Rae gave a hearty laugh at Cael bringing up the fact that the school looked haunted. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine ghouls and other creepy things hidden from them for one reason or another lurking around in the darkness. “Plenty of people die of boredom here for it to be possible.” The thought didn’t bother her much as she followed after her friend with the DIY decoration supplies in her arms, her discerning eye looking over the dimly lit space before the lights flickered to life and she could set all the things down by the table. Since she was horrible with any form of drawing, she was stuck with handing her bff the supplies to work his magic when she wasn’t coloring in stencils as directed. Sometime into it had begun humming under her breath a tune that kept shifting to different songs halfway through. Leaning back, she looked over Cael’s shoulder to look at his work. “Ooooh, nice touch. I’d definitely trade the black for silver. But having red isn’t too bad as Rosefell’s colors.”

“True enough! I guess I’m just biased because red is really not my color. Way too angry of a color.” Cael nodded in appreciation of his completed poster work. “Oh, you’ll like this next bit!” The purple haired boy exclaimed before digging around in his bag of goodies and pulled out some baggies of blue and white balloons. “While the poster dries, we can just blow a bunch of these up and tape them… like… everywhere.” He said, pulling out a blue balloon and inhaling deep before inflating it with a mighty sequence of exhales. “But if you aren’t as good at blowing as me, then there’s streamers that need to be hung up too.” Cael winked at the intentional innuendo. “You can climb to your heart’s content to hang em. Just twist the colors together and then do little swoopy swag things.” He explained, making gestures with his hands of the intended shapes.

“Yeah, red is hella intense, but isn’t it also supposed to mean passion or something… Yeah, you’re right. That doesn’t fit this school at all.” Rae started off strong but soon quickly fell into her thoughts about the symbolism of red, and soon found herself agreeing with what he had said before. Her confused expression morphing into glee as Cael brought out the second steps for decoration.

“And be shown up by the master, I’ll stick to the hands on approach.” She grinned back with a shake of her head, laughing a bit before taking the bag of streamers so she could work a little farther down the hall first. “Gremlins gotta climb, and I’m good with my hands, so this should be a piece of cake for me.” Rae called out from the end of the hall as she got the first three sets of streamers to weave together before attempting to do any climbing, or the swoopy swags for the flourishes.

“Don’t hurt yourself!” Cael called down the hall as he went about his task. After inflating two dozen balloons, his cheeks were flushed redder than the Rosefell colors they were just discussing. He bunched the balloons into groups of two, one blue and one white, and taped them all around. Some on the sign-in table, some by the doors, some along the halls near the entrance. Deciding that the balloons themselves weren’t flashy enough, he got some of the silver glitter and sprinkled it atop the balloons so that it could stick to them via static. Blowing glitter around the halls got Cael thinking with a mischievous smirk. He made his way over to where Rae was working and waited for her to get down from the chair before saying, “Hey, Rae!” When she turned to respond, he blew a cloud of silver glitter towards her face before cackling and sprinting away.

Rae had managed to line the hallways with swirls of blue and white, that crossed at the entrance before she was left with the choice of going farther into the school with what little she had left, or get creative. So she made puffy flowers from the streamers to hide where the ones lining the hallways were taped down. While she was making her way down from putting one of the last makeshift flowers up, she could hear Cael come up behind her and call her name. A glitter attack to the face was not something she expected, but she was happy to have kept her mouth shut at least. Still, she was left sputtering and wiping the glitter away from her eyes, nose, and mouth for a few seconds. His cackling poking her growing need for pay back. “Oh you are gonna get glitzed Cael!” She yelled, snatching up one of the tubes of glitter from the table and setting off running after him because he chose to run away despite knowing dang well she was one of the stars for the track team. When she would catch up to him, she was so going to drizzle it over him just as heartily as he had puffed it into her face.

“Aaaackkk!” Cael screeched in response to being caught by his much faster friend. Instead of a light dusting, Rae had gone for quantity over quality and dumped an entire tube of blue glitter over his head while he tried to slither out of her spidermonkey grasp. “Awe, c’mon, not the hair!” He said with a whine but followed it with a giggle. Shaking his head caused a puff of glitter to sprinkle all around the both of them. The glitter fight and shenanigans continued until the faculty chastised the pair and some students started to arrive. “We should… probably wash up before our Liberty Bells get here, anyway. What’s the name of yours again?” Cael asked as he placed a name tag on himself.

It was her turn to cackle now that her revenge was satiated, and she wasn’t the only one who looked like she was an extra for a Twilight spoof film. “Now we match~” She chirped happily in an almost devilish sing-song tone after the cost was clear of the faculty that had caught them in the Glitter Act. Though that happiness morphed into an intense thinking expression where she pressed her lips into a thin line while trying to recall the email she had read a week ago for the name of her assigned tourist.

“I think my hair is gonna have glitter in it for at least a few days even if I did… But maybe I can convince one of them that I'm a sparkly vampire with it? I got a belle named Olivia Howard, so maybe she is still in the Twilight phase and it’ll work.” She answered while placing her own name tag on the front of her coat since she only really needed it for the tour and not to wear all day, or so she thought rather hopefully. “I’ll probably go find them first and have the bathrooms be the first stop. Kill two birds with one stone.” She added with a small salute to her partner-in-glitter-crime while backing up all the way to the entrance to start looking. “Good luck with finding that Christ dude.”

“It’s Christian, you goober!” Cael said and stuck his tongue out, still feeling the aftereffects of their silliness. “Good luck with the vampire thing, but I’m going to try to make a slightly better first impression. I mean, what if he’s uber hott?! Catch you on the flipside, cupcake!” Cael said and saluted his sparkling biffie before heading to the bathroom. After doing his best to wash the glitter off of his face at the very least, Cael left the restroom in time to hear his name being spoken around the corner by the sign-in table.

Cael flitted over to the students there gave one of them a light smack on the shoulder. “Goodness, don’t lie to them, Peter. You knew I was just in the bathroom real quick!” The lavender-haired teen looked up to see a pair of new faces — well, one of them was new. The other one was… black eye coffee? He nearly blurted that allowed, but instead just stared like a confused idiot for a moment. What was he doing at a high school? And god damn, he was wearing the glasses. Cael practically swooned, but was quickly disappointed to see that his name tag read “Caspian” instead of “Christian”. Caspian, huh? He’d have to remember that for later. But for now, he grinned at the nearly equally handsome Christian and greeted him. “Your search has ended, my friend. I’m Cael! Welcome to Rosefell.” Extending a hand for the boy to shake, he wondered if all of the Liberty Boys were built like these two. Gods, one could hope.

As Hunter laid in his crappy twin bed, he stared at his phone and ignored his alarm clock that had been blaring in his right ear for nearly three minutes. He was staring at his Instagram profile, but not his main one that had regular comments from Spike, Minty, Dee, and everyone he knew from school. He was in a daze as he couldn’t peel his eyes away from his secret account, FreeWadey.

Over the summer, not even three weeks after his relationship with Minty ended, Hunter went through a phase of just not caring about who he hurt. There was a lot of people who were just used for sex and for a while, he enjoyed it. When it all came down to it, he was feeling better by filling the void by whatever thot fell for the cheap lines Spike told him to use. Double dates and flings came and went, but that empty feeling didn’t. It persisted like a sprained ankle and it wouldn’t go away.

It’s why Hunter retreated to the internet. It was easy and being whoever he wanted to bring him some fulfillment. So he made the second Instagram account. Hardly anyone knew his middle name and nobody would think twice if he used a photo of him from three years ago, dressed in a killer whale costume. It was stupid but it gave him the secret identity he needed.

He spent a week just going around some artsy accounts, taking in that side of Instagram. Secretly, he had a thing for art. Half the time, he didn’t understand it, but he enjoyed looking at it. But then he came across one profile that drew him in.

Throughout the entire summer, Hunter spent it filling a void with someone he felt a connection with. Their name was Niki. He didn’t need any more than that. They were beautiful and, in a time when he needed something different and a reason to not feel so shitty, especially when his home life was shit, Hunter found a sanctuary in their eyes, feeling safe, feeling captivated. Niki was the person he could divulge some thoughts he never could tell anyone.

And admittedly, Hunter’s own confusion about who he was attracted to has always been something he struggled with. Niki never made him feel like he had to pretend.

“But now, it’s back to the real world.” He sighed out heavily.

Hunter stood up and finally shut off his alarm.

With a stretch, he dragged his feet across his dirty floor until he heard his phone go off. As the light lit up and he checked the notification, he saw it was for his second Insta. He read it and he smiled.

Thank you! ♥ I hope yours is amazing as well! Text me if you ever feel it’ll be too much, okay?

As soon as he responded and sent that message, his stomach was the epicenter of a swarm of butterflies, fluttering inside him, lifting him up and filling him with the right amount of serotonin to make whatever negative thoughts he had disappeared. Such a simple gesture, yet Hunter’s mood had taken a complete 180. He was moments away from letting a sour expression carry him all the way to the kitchen and into his car, but now, as he grabbed a protein bar from the cupboard, snagged his keys from a bowl by the door, and drove off in his Eclipse, Hunter wasn’t feeling depressed or anything of the sort.

He was smiling and ready to face the day in whatever it brought.

~

Hunter lived close to Rosefell, so getting there was a matter of not driving too crazy in the seven minutes it took him to get from his house to the school. The problem, of course, wasn’t him but rather the backed up traffic. He was less than thirty feet away from the parking lot and he found himself proceeding like a snail. The time he spent honking at the quote-unquote “excellent drivers” went wasted after the first seven. Even someone as impatient as Hunter knew there was no point.

So he allowed himself to relax. He turned on some Underoath and blared his stereo. It was chaotic and noisy, but it relaxed him. And he definitely had his reasons. If nothing else, Liberty High shut down and the students who were expected to attend their fancy school were now going to join those who didn’t get a say in which high school they attended.

When Hunter first learned of this, he didn’t know what to feel. He didn’t have anything against anyone from Liberty. He remembered a few of them when Rosefell would kick their ass at state and how they also beat them one year. The rivalry was intense but healthy. Hunter sometimes took it too far, but it was all in the name of fun. Despite this, Hunter couldn’t help but think about the rest of that email and how the Rosefell students had to serve as tour guides for the Liberty students coming in.

Hunter glossed over the list of the others, but he memorized who he had to show around.

“Nikolai Zabrecky,” Hunter said aloud.

The name didn’t mean anything to him, but then again, he didn’t know many people at Liberty. A few friends and some acquaintances he met at parties. And Juno. Can’t forget about the redhead he hurt the most. But he didn’t know this Niko person. He sounded like some Russian spy or something.

Hunter laughed at the thought of one of Vladimir Putin’s agents attending his high school. It would, at the least, make things interesting.

He sat with that thought as he pulled into an empty spot in the parking lot. After a few minutes of enjoying some music, Hunter grabbed his bag from the backseat, hoisted it over his shoulder, and got out. He took a few moments to straighten his shirt and jacket because even Hunter Quinn cared about his appearance. Satisfied, he briskly walked across the parking lot. When he was about to cross the street, he saw Rico just up ahead. As he was about to call out to him, he saw his friend have a close brush with death.

“Holy shit!” Hunter ran over to the Spanish romancer. “Jesus, Rico,” he stopped by his side, looking at his friend, concerned. “You okay, bro? Looks like you let your guard down. Almost met your maker there.”

With Special Guest: Lover #1 Tate Paxton @TootsiePop

For the majority of the student population of Liberty and Rosefell high schools, the time to make their grand entrances across the gates and to the Rosefell building was now. The pint-sized goth girl named Stephanie Cross was most certainly not one of them. Instead, the young woman was busy smoking a blunt in the street corner, impatiently waiting for the bus that would take her to Robert's Auto Repair. In normal circumstances, Spice would ask a friend for a ride to school and to the shop, and pick up her car at a later time. But towards the end of spring and the beginning of summer, ‘going to get her car worked on’ had become something of a hobby. Namely, ‘getting her car worked on’ by a mechanic/drug dealer named Ricky Quinn.

To the very few people that knew of the entanglement between Spice and Ricky, the topic was a sore one that was met with plenty of discomfort and disapproval. Not only were the circumstances between their initial meeting questionable at best, but the seventeen-year age gap and the fact that he was the father of her very first Rosefell fling pretty much topped the long list of reasons as to why they shouldn’t be involved in the first place. But Stephanie Cross wouldn’t be Stephanie Cross if she started to care about the opinions of the public. If she wanted to start off her day with a dose of Daddy Quinn magic at his boss’ auto shop before driving off to her first day of school, then she would do exactly that.

But damn, this bus really was taking for-fucking-ever to finally freaking arrive.

Five minutes later, an oh-so-familiar purple Honda Civic came cruising down the street, travelling north, straight to her. The engine had an efficient hum, was clearly well oiled, and glimmered in the morning light, thanks to an ultimate shine car wash. There was only one person who would have the audacity to pick up her car, without her permission. The closer the vehicle got, the clearer the view became. There in the driver’s seat sat a man Stephanie Cross knew all too well and it wasn’t Ricky Quinn.

With his thick, lustrous brown hair slicked with gel to go into a blowout, strong and defined facial features, and a smouldering, sly smirk, a mysterious man, who went by Tate Paxton, pulled up in front of the damsel in distress. When he came to a full stop, parking her car, he brought the window down. His infamous smug smile was all that could be seen until he leaned closer to the window to see her vexed expression.

“Oye! Morning Kitten. Beautiful morning, isn't it?” His beard was growing out, which only meant one thing. His schedule was busy and he took some time out of his week to drive all the way from Cleveland, just to see her. As he scanned her up and down, his eyebrows raised, liking what he saw. After a long, intimate moment, he rested his light brown gaze on her enticing face once more. “Who would’ve thought we’d go to the same guy, aye? Not me that’s for fucking sure!” he halfheartedly joked. Subconsciously, he tapped his right hand on her wheel three times, which was a subtle sign of his irritation.

"What the fuck, Tate?!" Stephanie cried out, her small face dripping with disbelief. Out of all the faces she’d been expecting to see on this day, Tate Paxton’s was certainly the last one on her list. In normal circumstances, she would be thrilled that Lover #1 had shown up to take her to school. She hadn’t seen Tate in weeks-- and although they’d been in constant communication via scandalous texts and Facetime calls, it was never the same as when their bodies melted together behind closed doors.

But under these bizarre circumstances, with him arriving in the car that was supposed to be under Ricky’s supervision back at the shop, it was very hard for Spice to get past the initial shock of it all. “There is no way in hell you come all the way from Cleveland to Columbus every time your stupid car needs to get fixed. And can you please fucking explain to me how the hell you got your hands on my damn car when it's been locked at a shop you have no knowledge of for three days?!”

“You want me to explain?” Turning off her car, Tate pulled out the keys and tightly clasped them in his right hand. After opening the door with his free hand, he stepped out with his polished and clean black oxfords silently dropping to the cement street. Tate being dressed in formal wear wasn’t usual for him unless he was in the middle of something important, that he cut short, to be here. “Yeah, I’ll tell ya.”

Throwing her keys up in the air and catching it, he chuckled, “Imagine me, minding my own damn business, giving you the space you need to spend time with your cute best friend-- lovely girl, by the way, that Aramintah-- letting you be. Just be. Freely.”

He paused and shook his head and sighed, Imagine—” Once again the keys went up in the air and back down in his hand. His attention never wavering from her face. “—I’m calling a good friend of mine and finding out,” The keys went up once more. He rolled his eyes at the thought that came to mind and instantaneously swatted the air to catch them. One last time. “he’s a good friend of yours too. A really good friend of yours.” Shoving his hands in his pockets, along with her keys, he leaned in forward, his intense brown eyes locked with hers, and a smirk on his face. “Just thinking about it, what are the chances, right?”

Stephanie’s reply was instant. "The same chances of me driving to Cleveland to surprise you at the club and walking into your office to find your tongue down your new house mom's throat," the young woman spat without missing a beat, flipping back some locks of her long black hair while mirroring Tate's own smug smirk. How could she forget about the incident that had put an end to their budding relationship? "Imagine being so pressed about who I choose to spend my time with after going behind my back throwing what we had out the window. And imagine having the lack of common sense to show up to where I live to imply that I owe you any sort of explanation. I'm not your girlfriend, Tate. You made that very clear to me that day a few months ago. So whoever I fuck or don't fuck is absolutely none of your goddamn business. You have no fucking right to question shit.”

What a minx she was. He liked when she got all riled up because of him. “Is that so, love?” Standing up straight, he took his right hand out of his pocket but instead of her keys, he had his phone in his hand instead. The one with the only number she had of his. Clearly, Stephanie forgot who she was talking to.

Ah, but of course.

Who would he be if he didn’t give her what she wanted? Tate heard her loud and clear. “I got one last one for you.” He waved his phone in front of her face, dangling it pridefully, sadistically, “Imagine a world—” No texts, no calls, no surprise visits, no sex, no nothing. “—where I’m gone.” Dropping his phone to the ground, he stomped on it with his dominant foot. Forcibly and only once, but enough to make Stephanie flinch. “Ricky can have you.” Purposely instilling fear in her, he smoothly bluffed, “And he’ll thank you later, for costing him his job.”

With that, Tate took her keys out of his pants pocket, tossed it at her feet, and turned on his heel, leaving her behind. Whether she believed him or not was entirely up to her, he didn’t care. Tate could disappear completely and she would have no idea how to trace him. She knew that. He could put all those she loved in danger, if he truly wanted to, like her dear best friend. She definitely knew that. Last but never the least, he had all the power in the world to ruin Ricky’s life, just with the snap of his fingers. She just learned that.

Spice was playing a dangerous game and she knew exactly what she was getting herself into, the day she met him. Without using his fingers, he whistled loudly and in came a Bugatti La Voiture Noire. One of Tate’s employees sat in the driver’s seat. As he opened the passenger door, he turned to look back at her and for a split second, his mask dropped and he showed a shed of conflict and withdrawal, before entering the vehicle and smirking once more, “Goodbye, Kitten.”

The door closed.

For a moment, Spice simply stood there, mouth agape at the absurdity of it all. This man had really driven over two hours to confront her about a relationship they didn’t have. The same man who had made it crystal-clear to her that they were not-- and had never been-- an item was really out here throwing a bitch fit, wrecking phones and making threats because he’d found out she’d moved on with somebody else. And, for a split second, Stephanie felt guilty about being the cause of his terrible mood with her actions.

But then that red-hot, blinding anger that always simmered underneath the surface of her being suddenly erupted, running down her veins like boiling lava. Who the hell did Tate Paxton think he was, anyway: coming out here demanding the faithfulness he wasn’t willing to give back, and making her feel like his appalling behavior was his fault. No, sir. It wasn’t her fault he was a deceiving pig who wasn’t able to keep it in his pants. And it wasn’t her responsibility to be loyal to a man like that.

Fuelled by the raging thoughts of how absolutely unfair this entire situation was, Stephanie knew she couldn’t let Tate go just like that. One quick scan of her surroundings led her to a particularly large rock nearby, and the goth girl suddenly knew exactly what she would do next. She bent down, wrapped her small hand around the rock, swung her hand over her head, and threw the rock in the direction of the luxurious car’s back windshield with all the strength she could muster.

Crash!

The sound of shattering glass erupted through the otherwise quiet street, sending the neighborhood dogs into a barking frenzy. A few curtains from the houses nearby fluttered slightly open; nosy neighbors peeking out their windows with concern or curiosity over what they had just heard. But from Tate Paxton’s vehicle? No reaction. It drove away slowly and completely unbothered-- just like its owner had been when dismissing her as easily as he would a used Kleenex tissue.

And that fucking hurt

I fucking hate you! Stephanie screeched at the retreating car, loud enough to potentially cause damage to her vocal cords but being much too enraged to care. I fucking hate you, you arrogant, cheating piece of shit! I hope you run that fucking car of yours off a cliff and just fucking die already! FUCK YOU!!!

But no matter how hard she screamed, the stupid Bugatti continued to drive away without a care in the world; leaving behind a sobbing, broken-hearted goth girl with mascara-covered tears of fury streaming down her beautiful face.

Ryan had been up since early in the morning, having gotten himself up to go for a jog before he went to school and still have time to put himself together to be the best kind of tour guide he could be. Not that having Samantha Queen as his person to show around had drastically changed his plans of how he was going to do just that, but she was probably going to get a kick out of it. To be fair, he had the idea as cosplaying Tuxedo Mask the second he read that the Rosefell students were going to guide Liberty kids around, with a rose in hand to make them feel special cause this was probably a nightmare for them. He could empathize with not wanting to have to start from the bottom again at a new school, and so was going to do his damnedest to start whoever-he-had-been-paired-with’s day.

Being saddled with his favorite streamer, who he knew was as big of a fan for a certain sailor themed magical girl show, was like being blessed with good fortune—Or possibly being set down the road of ruin courtesy the biggest fanfiction trope there ever was. But Sean was an optimistic guy, so he was decided take it as the former halfway through dawning on his handmade suit and cape after his shower to so he could focus on getting his hair situated despite going to where a top hat he made to specifically be able to collapse so he could put it in his locker instead of wearing it around all day.

With how well his hair was cooperating today, he wasn’t gonna hide it, plus he was sure that his teachers would object to both it and the cape. His mother leaning against the doorframe into his room with her cup of coffee, watching him put the final touches with a smile on her face and all three of the dogs sitting at her feet.

“You sure they won’t mistake you for a butler?” She asked after taking a sip from her cup, the corners of her eyes wrinkling up to show that she was still smiling despite her mouth being covered.

”Too bad that’s not my job~” Sean replied back in sing-song like tone, flicking his cape up with a flourish as he turned and went to his mother, taking one of her hands in his and leading her in a makeshift dance that she had to set her coffee down for. A soothing but upbeat and danceable song playing in the background from his phone that they informally waltzed to.

The woman ending up laughing at the antics of her son the second he had spun her around, a lovely sound that wasn’t heard as often as it should since his father had passed but their only son had way of remedying that without even realizing it. Though she had to cut it short by pulling away, shaking her head as she went back to the doorway. “Okay, okay. Hurry it up there Mr Mask, if you want to take my car and get there on time you need to leave soon.”

”You’re letting me take the car!?” Sean asked, whipping around from where he had been putting on the white domino mask on his, eyes wide and his mouth open in a growing smile of giddiness that made his mother start chuckling again, giving a serious nod in return. Within seconds, her baby boy ran up to her cheering and had managed to pick her up in a tight hug as he kept walking to the living room where he finally placed her down after a small spin and her having to pat his shoulder to let him know. Sunny, Daphne, and Shaggy, all receiving loving pats one the head as he passed by them and out the door, taking a pair of car keys from the stand they were hanging on by the front door.

Kim Bergara stood there, looking at the recently closed door for a moment before shifting her honeyed gaze to the three dogs sitting patiently across from her.

“3. 2. 1-“ Sean quickly came back into the home and rushed past her to his room saying, ”I forgot to grab my stuff for school.”

His voice carried through the hallway as he picked up his backpack, holding it by the top strap as he soon pocketed his phone, seeing that Miki had sent him a message since he had left it, and a small bouquet of fake roses that he was going to be handing out to the new people as he saw them in his classes. There was a real one in the middle for his person to give a tour to, but he was more worried about being able to pick up his mother’s cup of coffee without spilling it.

On his way back through, he handed her the cup and kissed her on the cheek as he passed. ”Thank you Mom, I love you, and have a nice day off. There’s French toast in the kitchen if you get hungry.” Sean blurted out quick just seconds before he shut the front door behind him so the sweet doggos didn’t try to follow him to school. His cape billowed behind as he skipped down the step, checking Miki’s message and quickly sending one of his own so that he wouldn’t need to once he got into the black 2001 Kia his mother was letting him borrow.

To: Miki Wiki
I’m omw rn, running a little late.

He had some idea of what Miki wanted, but wasn’t sure enough to put what his answer would have been in text, plus she probably needed a pick me up the most considering she was going to have to tackle dealing with a defensive Missy on the warpath. Which he couldn’t blame her for either, the transfer was definitely going to upset the balance that had been keeping the school together, so maybe he could at least get Miki in a more charitable mood for the inevitable fallout that was going to wash down on Rosefell from two queens butting heads for the throne.

Thankfully, living in this town his whole life had his perks, so he knew the best way to avoid the traffic, and it wasn’t that long until he was parking in the almost filled parking lot. Watching him get out of the car, all dressed up in a suit and cape was comical enough that he earned a few laughs from those who were paying attention. The few Liberties he did see being tossed a rose before he left in the same fashion as who was dressed as.

”My job is done here.” And swish of his cape signaled his departure, as he turned and made a beeline for the welcome desk to get his nametag and check for Miki, or wait for her there until Samantha showed up and he would need to start his tour. The glitter covered hallway and streamers were a nice touch, along with the handwritten sign that he could tell from one look, had been written by Cael. The fact the chaotic duo had done so well to spruce up the old hallways to make it look like they cared and were happy to welcome the Liberty kids made big boi BOOgara hella proud of his little friends.

For now he would focus on writing his name neatly besides the lost new guy beside him. Hearing him ask for Cael made him perk up, and turn a bit to address him with a smile, when he noticed his friend checking out another one of the new faces. Something that he kept in mind for later when they were in drama together, cause he wouldn’t be a true friend if he didn’t get the details of his first thoughts on the new guys.

”You and Rae were the ones who set up the decorations right? They look great!” Sean said jovially as he walked over to where Cael stood and gently patted his friend on the back for his work before beaming at both Caspian and Christian. ”I’m not your tour guide, but it’s still nice to meet you both. The name’s Sean, and I got a rose for you if you’d like to have one.”

Billie had spent last like she had most nights these last few weeks - stressed.

The announcement that Rosefell and Liberty were merging had come about two weeks ago, sending Billie into a raging panic. The young woman had heard enough about the rat-infested place to know enough, but her Google search horrified her even more. Rosefell had absolutely nothing to offer, and according to the pictures online they couldn’t even afford to have the building pressure washed. The red bricks were nearly black with dirt and age!

Shitty staff, horrid food, nearly zero press… Oh, this is tragic.

Then there was the fact that instead of having an actual orientation, she was to be led around the school by some stranger named Melissa. Billie had scoffed and rolled her eyes when she read the email, already picturing the image of a perfect bleach blonde fake Barbie in her mind.

Fiona was still away at school. Dad was in Canada shooting a scene, and mom was on a business trip. Then there was Nicholas who had locked Billie out of his room two short days after the announcement of the merge. Billie had slipped notes underneath her twin's door, baked notes into treats for him, threw rocks at his window, and even hid in the back seat of his car to ambush him.

Despite all of this, Billie respected Nicholas’s decision after he had yelled at her enough. She had given her brother all the time in the world - right up until the point she had taken the handle off his door due to Callie disappearing.

Calypso Grey had ghosted her friend without a trace. This had sent Bille into one of her tantrums.

Callie’s social media accounts had been deleted. Messages and calls were no longer going through to her cell. All Billie had was just one last, mysterious, and confusing text.

C: love u
C: see u

Billie had sent a simple response.

Love you too.😘 But what?

Sadly, Billie had yet to get a response from Callie. She had the urge to go knock on the door to the Grey Manor, but last time that happened things didn’t go so well.

After waking up to the sound of Nick banging on her door, Billie would look at the clock only to realize that she was running late.

”C’mon Billie. We’re gonna be late!”

With a groan, Billie forced herself to get out from under her warm cocoon of blankets. Once in the bathroom, the young woman brushed and applied all of her daily products to her hair. Normally Billie would stress over what her outfit was going to be for a while. Sadly, she could not afford that luxury today. A simple black romper, black sneakers, and a jacket would have to do. Putting on a few golden accessories and applying her five minute face, Billie was fairly pleased with her appearance.

Riding passenger in Nick’s car, Billie was pleased that her brother had sped just enough so that they were what appeared to be right on time.

Climbing out of the car, Billie couldn’t help but stand there and stare at the horror that was Rosefell High. An old Charger honking the hell out of it’s horn snapped Billie out of her trance, making her realize that she had been in such a rush this morning that she had forgotten to call Rue.

Sitting on the hood of her brother's car, Billie started up Facetime as she waited on her sister-from-another-mister to answer.

A fresh start.

Again.

Was it even worth testing to see if the third time was the charm?

I guess another fresh start is probably better than trying to make it work with all the questions.

Nights were restless more often than not for Alina Zabrecky lately. There were a lot of changes, a lot of departures, a lot of stuff piled on to a brain that was still trying to make sense of itself. The summer didn't provide a lot of clarity on that front. Especially with the news that Liberty High was being shut down for at least a year.

Maybe it was for the best. Liberty didn't have the same cache it held when Alina first arrived there. It was fading fast given the lack of attention she paid during her junior year. But, Rosefell held no promises. It held no solutions. She had no idea what it held.

She knew what it didn't hold. That would be Callie.

When the Grey daughter told her there would be no paint fights in the immediate future, that she would be at a boarding school while the rest of Liberty was slumming it up, it just compounded the feelings she felt of being inadequate, inept and unable to deal with everything. There were promises made, promises of protection that she could not offer anymore on one scale, and felt she didn't have control of on the other. It led to a crisis of confidence and faith, one that hadn't resolved itself at this point. One that led to many of those hot sleepless nights that plagued the summer.

But now the summer was over. It was time to be real. Or as real as could be expected.

Alina had some idea of what she was going to wear. It wasn't her pyjamas, but if she had to go into an unknown territory, she was going to be comfortable. A striped tank top and a pair of loose leggings that would eventually be accompanied by her trademark jean jacket. But not now. Now was just about trying to be comfortable enough to make the necessary movements to get to where she needed to be. If not for her, then for the other people that needed her.

She knew one of them would be waiting for her, likely downstairs at this point. Summer had been been rough. She did her best to make sure that her sibling knew that she would be there for her, but ever since the red incident, Alina had her doubts. It's why she wasn't exactly ready as she descended down the stairs, only to hear...

“Mornin’, Ali. I’m ready whenever you are.”

Ready. Ready for what? That was the question that went unanswered the entire summer. Niki seemed to have more answers on that front than Alina did at this point. How were they able to recover so quickly and here she was still feeling everything? Feeling so powerless? Feeling the darkness?

It was hard to feel such darkness with chocolate chip pancakes, though. Her mom’s pancakes could soothe many ills. Or at least give a game effort.

Alina could try to be as effective as pancakes. “Morning. I… think I’m going to need a little bit more time. I have to get some more stuff together. I’m not even sure I should be bringing all the stuff I’m bringing. Maybe I should leave some stuff here.” Attempts were failing. She couldn’t even find words anymore, the catch-all “stuff” serving as a replacement for the paints, the laptop, the notebooks, it all blurred together as she tried to talk it out.

“It’s our first day,” Niki said with a shrug as they stabbed a forkful of pancake and looked at Alina. The anxiety was written all over her face. Nik couldn’t help but feel a wave of shame wash over them, because they put it there. At the very least, they contribute to their sister’s distress, if not being the full source of it. “All you need is like… a pencil and a notebook. Nothing crazy happens on the first day.” They said reassuringly, meaning that the workload wouldn’t be intense. There were a number of other crazy things that could happen, but Ali nor Niki needed to be thinking about that right now.

“OK, yeah, you’re probably right, Niki,” Alina said, as she grabbed a seat at the table, intent on grabbing some of the breakfast on offer for herself. Maybe the chocolate would help her think better. Or the bananas. Bananas were supposed to be good for the brain. “And like you said, it’s not going to be anything crazy, right? No one’s going to be dodging cars like Frogger or unleashing tests on the first day. It’s just… going to be in a different spot. It’s going to be different.”

“Exactly, just different.” Niki raised the corner of their mouth in a half smile. “And I think we're pretty used to different by now.” Finishing up with breakfast, Nik walked over to the sink to rinse their plate and put it in the dishwasher. “Plus, it's more than just us this time. When we moved here, we only had each other. But all of our friends are moving with us this time. We aren't alone. So, it'll be different… but in a good way.” It was unclear who they were trying to convince most at this point, but the sentiment was the same. Manifest it, speak it into being, and it would be... right?

The pancakes weren’t working as well any more. Alina tried to hide it, but it was a tough task. She didn’t have all her friends. She didn’t have Callie. She didn’t have that person to try and cheer her up out of this state. She didn’t have someone to get into paint fights with and wreck another shirt to have an excuse to go get another one. She didn’t have anyone to help her understand Cas to the fullest possible extent translations would allow. The syrup was slightly diluted with a tear, but she did her best to shield the action away from her sibling so they didn’t see.

It’s true. Christian was still going to be there. Billie too. There would be people. They just wouldn’t be Callie.

It was a good thing Alina hadn’t done her makeup yet. It was easier to hide the remnants as she brushed her hair and wiped her cheek all in one motion. “Right. It’ll be good. It has to be, right?” Who was she kidding? And now the pair of pancakes were close to finished. “I’ve still got a couple things to do before we head out. Are you ready now? Cause I’m sorry, but you’re going to be waiting a few more minutes.”

Niki watched silently as their sister’s mood shifted. She tried to hide it, but the wallflower Niki had made quite a hobby of reading people. Alina was their sister, and they knew each other better than anyone else. She was probably upset about Callie, and rightly so, but everyone else would be coming along. “Yeah, I’m ready, but I can wait.” Niki replied, sliding out their phone, instinctively opening Instagram. “Do what ya need to, I’ll be here.” Maybe Wade had replied, or better yet, sent a picture of his own.

Alina quickly bussed her plate to the dishwasher and darted upstairs. Given the confidence from Niki that nothing else was going to be necessary for today, she headed to the bathroom to focus on touching up her appearance. It was weird. She gave little thought to it before. She did basic stuff, stuff that she was happy to share with Niki when they asked for the pointers. Now, it seemed more important. Almost like it was going to serve as a mask for what she wanted to hide. A light foundation, a dose of mascara, that pink lipstick that seemed to lighten her face, every layer serving to help hide the nervousness, the uncertainty, the dread.

She stared at the job she did in the mirror, as if assuring herself that she was ready to get on with this final year of high school. A sigh escaped Alina’s lips. Tasked with helping helm her ex-boyfriend as well as her sibling through another change in education locations was not going to be easy, especially since she still had no idea what that was going to entail. Maybe this DeShawn fellow would have some answers on the tour.

Satisfied enough, she grabbed her messenger bag out of her room and headed back down the stairs. She looked around for Niki, but she didn’t spot them immediately. “Niki? You in here or out in the car?”

“I’m here!” They replied, pocketing their phone with disappointment at the lack of responses. Niki observed their sister’s makeup with a smile. “You look super pretty, Ali.” The compliment was genuine, if not tinged with a bit of jealousy. To make up for it, Niki applied a bit of pink-tinted chapstick once they were seated in the passenger seat of Alina’s car. “Did you read your email about the tour? I got someone named Hunter… I wonder what kind of family names their kid that? I’m imagining lots of camouflage and shotguns.” They mused, hoping that they were wrong. The last thing they needed was to be paired with one of the many bigoted buckeye rednecks.

“Sounds pretty loaded on the testosterone, that’s for sure,” Alina confirmed, feeling a little better about herself after Niki’s compliment. She knew they would probably prefer to get closer to her style for today, but it was their choice. It was going to be tough for both of them in that regard. “But hey, don’t knock camo. There are plenty of people who can rock camo. I like to think I’m one of them.” She clicked her seatbelt in place and started up the cobalt 2018 Ford Escape that had been her vehicle of choice since their parents gifted it to her on her 16th birthday. “I’m sure you’ll be fine. I got someone named DeShawn. Pretty sure he’s not a redneck. Doesn’t strike me as a painter type though.” Slowly she backed out of the driveway and followed the map that Google told her was definitely the correct way to get to Rosefell.

Niki winced at their sister’s defense of camo, it was never, never okay, in their opinion. Even when the high end designers tried to modernize it on the red carpet, it was a big fat fail. But… to each their own. Niki shrugged, “Who knows, maybe they’ll both be great. But, even if they suck, we can just ditch them and find each other. It’s not like Rosefell is going to be some huge labyrinth that we can’t navigate. It’s just a school.” Niki watched as the buildings went by in the window as Alina drove through Columbus. The blurring scenery did little to relieve the growing anxiety in their stomach. In fact, it was only making them feel more nauseous. “You think you’ll sign up for any clubs or sports? My therapist recommended that I try to join something this year… for engagement or whatever…”

Alina shook her head at first, but then hesitated. “I dunno. I haven’t felt too much like wanting to do anything like that…” Not that the elder Zabrecky was a complete social butterfly last year before the incident, but there were a few things she could do. Debate was proving to be a strong suit since she couldn’t fight with her fists anymore. That pinky finger wasn’t getting any more crooked. And there was art, of course. But without her main link to that club, it was hard to see it happening. Besides, the rumor was Rosefell couldn’t even afford paint, let alone fresh canvasses. “Maybe once we get settled in there, I’ll see, but I just don’t think it’s going to happen right now. I think it’s about as likely as you and Hunter hitting it off and going on a date after school.”

“Hah!” Niki laughed, breaking the nervous tension in their stomach for a moment. “Highly doubtful, then.” They clarified. In Alina’s eyes, that would be unlikely because Nik had never dated before, or even expressed interest in it. But in reality, it was unlikely because Niki’s heart secretly already belonged to Wade. Subconsciously, Niki’s thumb brushed the back of their phone, as if it could be Wade’s hand. “Well, if I have to pick something, then you do too. Deal?” Nik glanced at their sister with a half smirk. If this would be good for them, then it had to be good for their sister too. Niki had to take care of her now, since they’d hurt her so much last year. “I might… try cheerleading… I dunno, it depends on how Rosefell feels about people like me.”

The driver gave a caring glance over while doing her best to keep her eyes on the road. “I think Rosefell would be lucky to have you on their cheerleading team,” Alina affirmed. “I have to imagine they could use an infusion of talent and pep and good cheekbones, yeah?” One more turn, chimed the phone GPS. “Also, it would give me a reason to actually go to their football games. Maybe I can join with you. Pretty sure they need backup in case the other cheerleading squad wants to rumble, right?”

This was pretty laughable in Alina’s mind. While she embraced some aspects of her femininity, the thought of being subservient to the boys on the field, cheering them on and waiting for the faintest bit of praise as they passed by on the sidelines was never appealing. Still, it made some sense that Niki wanted to embrace that aspect. Besides, she wasn’t kidding about them being a good fit for it. When Niki embraced the things they enjoyed in life, they did it with full vigor. It would be nice to see. The thought was starting to renew Alina’s spirit a little bit, anyway.

“Maybe Hunter will have a connection to help you get on the squad. You should probably grill this redneck for all he’s worth, get all the inside dirt on this place. At least Hunter was proving to be a reliable comic relief target for the moment.

“I dunno, they might be a better source of info for archery… or target shooting.” Niki joked in return. “But I’ll ask, for sure. You gotta get the scoop from DeShawn for me, too.” The car rolled into the parking lot of their new school and Niki kept their eyes peeled to take in all the sights and people watching before they would have to leave the safety of Ali’s car. “I don’t think cheerleading is really your thing though, sis. No offense. Maybe you could try to make something out of their art department?” Niki suggested as their sister put the car into park. They took a deep breath as they looked down at the door handle and tried to prepare themself for the tremendous task that was… actually facing this day.

“That sounds like a task that is way above my paygrade, little sib,” Alina pocketed her keys in her bag and leaned back in the seat for a second, eyes closed, trying to psych herself up for this moment. Even with her and Niki talking, it was still something else. It was so much easier when they moved from Cleveland. Now? Now it seemed like she was getting out onto the lunar surface. She let out a huge sigh. “But, I will do my best to get some info from DeShawn. And give me a text if things get to be too much, OK?” I may need that assurance too…

“I’ll text you even if it’s fine, promise.” Nik replied with a warm smile and used that bit of positive energy to up their door. The weather was still too warm for wearing a sweater like Niki was, but that didn’t matter. Niki wouldn’t be caught dead without long sleeves and if anyone asks, it’s because of their taste in fashion. Nik waited for their sister to join them on the sidewalk before walking towards the entrance together, their hands buried in their pockets and balled into nervous fists. “I wonder if everyone is going to think we’re twins again.” They mused. “Also, I don’t think you need to worry about anything being above your paygrade, we just parked between a Tesla and a Benz. The rest of the Liberty kids are coming with their Liberty parents’ paychecks, and you aren’t the only artsy fartsy one.”

Alina walked around the crossover to stand beside her sibling, hands firmly ensconced in her jean jacket pockets, staring at the school from the sidewalk. “I don’t think we’ll have to worry about the twins thing again. Your hair is far cuter than mine this time. But, we’ll see if the other Liberty parents start pouring money into this place I guess. It’s only for one year, right? Then, who knows what will happen?” That was the part Ali was afraid of, but no one could control the future, no matter how many healing crystals or aromatics they owned. “Let’s just get it started.”

“Two years for some of us, ma’am.” Niki said teasingly. “Plus some people have younger siblings too that aren’t even in high school yet.
But who knows how long this merger is even gonna be.”
Nik walked along with a shrug. They got to the front door and Niki pulled it open. They were greeted by a plastering of handmade decorations in the colors of Liberty High. There were balloons, streamers, a large poster board sign welcoming them to Rosefell, and glitter was everywhere. “That’s kinda cute.” They mused while waiting in line to sign in. After a brief, awkward interaction with the students running the table, Niki had to correct their name as being Niki instead of Nikolai, as it was printed. They wrote their nickname on a tag in curly letters and then waited for their tour guide to arrive.

The decorations in the old Liberty colors got an eyebrow raise from Alina. “Wonder who was responsible for that?” She was used to Niki having to correct people in regards to their name. Soon they would be old enough to do a legal change hopefully, but for now, it was just a bit of extra awkwardness. Alina grabbed a blue tag and wrote her name in block letters, attaching it to the jean jacket. “And now we play the waiting game…”

Or so she thought. However, it became clear that fate would not allow that to happen. Cas was punctual as ever, and once she spotted him waiting, she knew it would be impossible to avoid at least touching on some of the issues between them. Even if he seemed to be distracted by... yep. That was Christian next to him. However, her sibling would be no help.

“Oh, it looks like I got some texts from Fi. I’ll be right back, I’m going to go meet up with her to walk her inside. She doesn’t have an awesome big sis to walk in with like I did. Text me if this Hunter shows up looking for me!”

And so Alina was left in the hallway, with a bunch of people but only one of them mattering at the moment. As she looked across at her ex-boyfriend, wondering if he even noticed that she was there, she decided it would be better to at least get the acknowledgements out of the way, lest other things be dragged up in the public sphere that didn't need to be addressed in front of so many.

"Hey Cas," she offered. "How is everything?" It was a weak offering, but it was all she could muster at this time.

Liv Howard & Spike Langley
A @Melissa and @TootsiePop Collaboration

Fearing guest appearances from Trixie Kingsley and Cael Crawford

It was at the very instant that Liv Howard walked away from her brother and his friends that a massive weight was lifted off of her shoulders. She could finally take a deep breath and look forward to enjoying the first day of her Junior year. As much as she loved her brother, in some ways Aiden was more protective of Liv than their parents. He went out of his way to intimidate any guy or gal that tried to approach his baby sister, which was not exactly the best thing for her social or dating life. But now that he was busy with Fiamma and Senior year shenanigans he’d have no time to police her… which meant that from this moment forward she was free to do as she pleased.

Liv, with Trixie in tow, began to make her way towards the main building (which she had to admit did look like it could collapse in on itself at any possible moment), a wide grin seeming to be permanently stuck to her face. Today was a fresh start by starting at a different school and the blonde was evidently thrilled about it. She had spent the last two weeks listening to Aiden bitch and moan about the transfer, but forever the opposite of her brother, Liv was excited about the prospect of a clean slate.

Her blue eyes gazed around the parking lot and tried to pick familiar faces out of the crowd of students greeting each other, but was met with no known entities. It was then that she spotted a boy dressed as Tuxedo Mask emerging from an unassuming car. Liv couldn’t help but laugh as she watched him gallantly stroll towards the general direction of the front doors handing out beautiful red roses as he went. Rosefell sure had some… characters. Her giggle must have carried over to where he was because the next thing the blonde knew he appeared within an arm's reach and extended a delicate flower out to her before disappearing into the crowd. Liv smiled graciously but couldn’t get in a word edgewise as the mystery cosplayer departed.

The blonde turned to her latina best friend, “Guess I’m already turning a new leaf,” she commented, twirling the stem of the rose between her thumb and index finger before tilting the fake flower towards Trixie playfully.

Smiling and rolling her eyes at her closest friend, Trixie pulled the flower out of her hand and muttered, "A new leaf, huh?” After scanning around them, the foreign crowd, the boys and girls they didn’t know, and the ones they knew, Trixie started feeling anxious. What if her brother was right to be stressed about this? To build a whole new reputation. Start completely over. Maybe getting casted off? She knew she’d be fine, but things were starting to set in finally. This was the first day of Junior year and it was clear they weren’t in Kansas anymore.

With fidgety hands she snapped the stem of the rose close to the bud. "Oh shit.” To fix what she just did, she leaned in and put the rose in Liv’s hair, rested it on her right ear, "There. It really compliments the white.” The youngest Kingsley’s voice subtly shook. No matter how much Trixie can try, she couldn’t hide her nerves from Liv.

Liv gasped as Trixie split the stem from the bud as easily as stepping on a twig. She knew that her friend was nervous for their first day at Rosefell, but she didn’t realize she was that nervous. Although she didn’t mind the welcome addition to her outfit, the red rose adding a nice pop of color to her monochrome ensemble, she was a little concerned about how Trix was taking all of this. Delicately, the blonde girl grasped her bestie's hand and squeezed it. “It’s going to be okay, I promise.” Liv reassured her with a comforting smile. “You and me, remember?”

"Yeah, absolutely! You and me.” Like they did when they were kids, Trixie lifted her pinky and grabbed Liv’s in return. A sweet, innocent gesture that no matter what happened this year, they would find their way back to each other. They always did. Unfortunately for the best friends, their shared, short moment together was ripped away from each other. They wouldn’t get the opportunity to talk about clubs, about meeting up later, about anything, because Trixie’s tour guide tapped on her shoulder.

“Fuckin’ shit, there you are!” The brunette was surprisingly shorter than both Liv and Trixie. While Liv was standing at 5’4, Trixie at 5 even, this girl was 4’11” and kind of felt like an ankle biter. She was called by her classmates: “The Raging Bull”. “Call me Nellie, any other names you hear, trash it.” Trixie was a deer in headlights when she saw how abrasive this girl was. To those that did know her, she was a senior who went by the name Helena Perfect, but it was clear she had a rowdy, rough attitude and took no shit from anyone. “I ain’t here to waste your time, and you sure as hell ain’t going to waste my time so come on. We’re gonna’ make this quick. I have a date with my magic conch in ten.”

Before she walked away, expecting Trixie to follow, Nellie glared at the blonde, “That’s a pretty white dress you got there. Fan-fuckin’-tastic choice for this shithole. I’m sure by the end of the day, it’ll still be white.”

Trixie quickly pulled Liv into a hug and whispered, “Hopefully your tour guide is less… mad.”

The blonde was certainly taken aback by the girl’s harsh demeanor, but wasn’t all too surprised that such people roamed the halls of their new school. Liv made a point to give the Nellie girl a sickeningly sweet grin even though her “compliment” may have been in a negative spirit, looking her over to try and find any redeeming qualities to comment on. “Your jeans are cute… shocked that they don’t have more holes in them, but they work.” Liv stated, a touch more judgemental than she normally would have.

“Aw thanks princess. I’m sure that lip of yours will get you far.” With her back turned to Liv, Helena marched away, unbothered.

With their delightful acquaintance now gone, the blonde hugged her latina bestie tightly, tighter than before. “I’m sure it won’t be that bad. Text me when you get to your first class so I know you’re still alive.”

“You too. Love you, Livvy.” Once their long moment came to a close, Trixie pulled herself away and hurriedly made her way to her tour guide (yepp, still in her heels).

Liv smirked as she watched Trixie scurry away in an attempt to catch up with her tour guide who was doing everything but touring her around. As soon as she disappeared into the crowd, the blonde took a deep breath before confidently walking in the same direction and opening the front doors of Rosefell High. Where she was supposed to go now that she was inside, she didn’t know, but as long as she looked good doing it, it didn’t matter if she was headed in the wrong direction.

Speeding from a side hall, in a cheap ass knight suit, where it looked like it was going to break off because Spike was surprisingly fit, the mascot of the school came roller blading down the hall with the bag of lollipops. He threw some candy at a group, “Hearts for everyone! We are sooooooooooooooooooooooo happy you’re here.” He was going so fast that the sudden, random cute blondie coming down another hall was unexpected. He was quick to dodge her ever so slightly, his speed causing her hair to fly with him. “Woah man. SAFETY. SAFETY ON.” However, he was too late to break and as a result, he rammed into the main office’s large glass window, falling on his ass.

“Oh my god,” Liv exhaled, completely startled by the interaction but also concerned for the poor kid in the costume. A few people looked in their general direction to see what the commotion was about, but surprisingly no one seemed to go to his aid, so the blonde quickly walked over to where the boy was laying on the ground, “Are you okay?” She asked innocently, having no context as to who this guy was and what he was doing in the mascot suit.

Seeing birds for a second, Spike’s sight slowly registered reality and his reality in front of him was a beautiful blonde, one of those cinnamon roll looking kind of girls, like her father was a preacher or some shit, gorgeous but clearly too good for a piece of shit like him. Out of his league. A goofy grin rose on his face. Once he grabbed the nearest heart lollipop which happened to be in the shade of blue, he offered it to her all the while laying on the floor, “Wow, somebody better call God, because he’s missing an angel.”

The blonde gave the boy a knowing look, but took the sucker anyway and tried to resist the urge to roll her eyes. “Funny,” she commented sarcastically, “guess you hit your head pretty hard, huh?”

“Nah man, I know hot when I see it.” Exuberantly picking himself up, like this happens all the time, using no support but his core muscles, Spike was back on his feet in no time and offered his hand, “Hi, I’m Spike Langley and welcome to Jackass.”

She smirked, taking his hand and shaking it. “Olivia Howard, but my friends call me Liv.” The girl replied, putting two and two together to delineate the type of person Spike was. “Any chance you can point me in the direction of where the tour guides are?” She pulled out her phone to double check the name of the person who was going to be showing her around. “I’m supposed to find someone named Rachelle Rawlins?”

“Oh, no shit. I got you. Rae’s a little weirdo, but I think you got yourself a good deal.” Gesturing for Olivia to follow him, he cruised down the hall much slower than before so he was only inches in front of the Liberty student, “Liv’s a nice name, so yeah, cool.” He tossed candy out a lot calmer now, as he cheerily asked his new acquaintance, “Got any plans? Any clubs you might want to join?”

“If I’m being honest, I’m just trying to make it through today.” Liv expressed candidly, following Spike as they made their way to supposedly where this Rae girl was. As they passed by people, she tried to pick out familiar faces from Liberty but could only identify a few. Did any of the Liberty kids decide not to show? She bet that some of them got a ‘get out of jail free card’ by transferring elsewhere. “Any tips?” She asked in an attempt to make small talk and get the inside scoop on this place as they hopefully neared their destination.

“My only tips revolve around people. Melissa Elliot… don’t get on her bad side. I’m sure you know how Queen Bees work, she’s our’s. And uh, let’s see, a lot of boys would want to take a piece of your cake, coming from me, who thinks you’re hot… so be careful. Like, stay away from Rico. Fuck Rico.”

Well, that was actually quite useful. The blonde nodded, taking the boy’s advice willingly as they weaved around other students. Aiden would easily find out soon enough which guys were thirsting after his sister, so at least she was able to get a head start on who to avoid. “Get on Melissa’s good side and stay away from Rico. Got it. Anything else I should know?” Liv asked, appreciating Spike’s brief roadmap.

“Uh, I guess if you want some good friends. Sean Bergara, or Tuxedo Mask, a theater dweeb, and Ellie Roberts, sweetheart artist, would be a good start. But if you want… questionable friends, I got names for that too, but I’m sure you’ll know their name soon enough. Don’t be surprised if a fight happens today, and tomorrow, and the next day.” Approaching the sign-up table, Spike saw Cael, and happily hollered, “Cael, my man! It’s good to see you, sorry to interrupt. But, where’s the gremlin? This lovely girl here has her as a tour guide.”’

Looking over his shoulder, back at Liv, Spike gestured his thumb to Cael, “Good guy here too. Makes the best damn drinks at Plouf,” He did lean in, not so discreet, and whispered in Liv’s ear while Cael seemed distracted by a pale, mysterious boy, “A little bit of a gossip, but who isn’t nowadays?” This would be good for Liv to know, if she wants to be in the ‘know’ about everything and anything, Cael was your guy. He knew all the tea. Even tea that was still brewing. He's the first responder on the tea-train. The tea FAIRY!

Liv took a one look at Cael and immediately recognized him from Plouf. She and Trixie frequented there after school when either of their brothers was willing to drive them- the Almond Chai Lattes were her favorite. But who she also identified as another familiar face was Christian Barker, who stood only a few feet away. It was comforting to finally see someone from Liberty who she recognized walking the halls here at Rosefell, and especially Chris of all people. She had AP History with him last year and thought he was cute, so she made Trixie at the time do some reconnaissance to figure out who he was. The blonde stole a glance at the dark haired boy with a smirk, but looked back over to Spike and Cael quickly in order to pay attention.

"Oh, hey, Spike." Cael responded, breaking his gaze from the two handsome Liberty newcomers just long enough to glance at Spike. "Rae? I last saw her around the corner, she was actually going to find you. Olivia, right?" He confirmed, looking to Liv now and waving politely. "Sorry I can't be much help, your guess is as good as mine as to where she ended up. Can I still have a lollipop, though?"

“Damn, okay. Thanks, and duh you can. Here.” He placed way more lollipops than necessary in Cael’s hands, “I’m sure these boys over here would love something to suck too.” Not wasting any more time, Spike contemplated his next move, “I got an idea, follow me!” Instead of going to the entrance outside, or wasting any time searching like fools, they walked back and headed straight to the office that Spike rammed his face on.

Liv didn’t even get a chance to say thank you to Cael before Spike whisked her away back to where they were a few moments previous. She could have gotten whiplash from how quickly the boy was moving- it seemed as though when he wanted to do something, he needed to do it that second and not a moment later. But she didn’t mind. Spike had a good energy about him (although a little crude) and she could tell from only just meeting him that he meant well.

Entering the office, Spike was quick to scan the area. It was vacant, as to be expected. The two secretaries were probably indulging in breakfast sandwiches and drinking hot cocoa in the principal’s office. They loved using JPJ’s office when he was away. He had the best room in the house, and they had keys to it. His favorite secretary was Jennifer Apple, but he liked calling her ‘Applebottom’. To this day, she hasn’t corrected him, evening finding his goofiness endearing. There was no doubt he was her favorite too. Not wanting to be rude, he did call out, “Mizzzzzzzz Applebottom!”

Like he expected, she creaked the principal’s door open and smiled at him, “What do you need, Spike?” She had no ounce of annoyance or anger. Only a bright disposition and a kind smile. This seemed to be normal for her. Being interrupted by students for their little whims of the day.

“Melissa wants me to make an announcement, can I? You know for school spirit, wooooooo!”

“Make it quick, you know how Berkley feels about you kids using the system. Don’t worry, I got you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta’ finish my bacon, egg, and cheese.” The young secretary winked at the boy, before closing the door and resuming her conversation with the other one.

Awesome. Too easy. Grinning at Liv, he went past the counter, beyond the point kids are permitted to enter, and went straight to Apple’s desk. Adjusting the mic, Spike sat in Apple’s seat and gave his acquaintance a thumbs up, “You asked, and you will receive.”

“But I didn’t ask for-”

Immediately afterwards, Spike pressed the red button and without a care in the world, talked to the whole school, inside and out of the building, “Yo, yo, yo. It’s your boy Spike, hoping all you cool kids are enjoying being back at school and for you Liberty peeps out there, welcome, man. It’s good to have you here, joining the Knights. Remember to get your fake rose from Tuxedo Mask and a lollipop from me, the guy in the knight suit. There’s also some breakfast shit in the cafeteria. Now, can Rachelle Rawlins please come to the main office? Rachelle Rawlins PLEASE come to the main office. I got a special delivery, just for you! BYEEEE!” He hung up, but then realized he forgot something, he pressed the button again, “Also Red, sorry for being an ass! DeVito didn’t mean it. Well I did, but you know... Kay, bye.”

That sure was one way to find Rae. The blonde laughed as the ever energetic Spike delivered his announcements, the nerves of her first day dissipating. Something about the way that he was acting was different from any Liberty kid she had met previously, and maybe that was because it was evident that Spike didn’t care about what you thought of him. Liv raised an eyebrow after he released the button and was off the air, “Special delivery?” She questioned, crossing her arms over her chest.

“It was that or bodacious blonde who is down for some funky shit with long legs and a short white dress on. I don’t need to make another girl mad today, so special delivery sounded a little better.” He grumbled to himself.

“Since you were kind enough to give me some tips, Spike, I’m going to give you one too… if you ever meet a kid named Aiden Howard, I suggest you run.”

Forty-five minutes before the warning bell of Rosefell High was scheduled to go off, the sounds of the Disney Channel Camp Rock movie soundtrack could be heard from behind the closed door of the bedroom that once belonged to the now newly-engaged Charlotte Diedrikson. Inside the room was a lavender-haired young woman, singing and dancing along to the music coming from her phone’s speakers while browsing through her potential outfit selection. Finally, she set her sights on a spaghetti-strapped, flower-printed red mini dress, and a matching pair of white and beige wedges. One glance in the mirror made her question whether the length of the dress was appropriate or not, but the girl merely shrugged and pushed the worries away. If the school had anything to say about her wardrobe choices, they could take it up with the big bad wolf lawyer downstairs.

Giselle Seara’s morning routine was much like every other teenage girl’s was: a nice warm shower, a skincare routine, a brushing of the hair, a few generous spritzes of her fruity Escada perfume, and a little makeup to highlight her natural beauty. Once the motions were over and done with, she raced downstairs to the dining room, eager to put an end to the fierce growling of her stomach.

“Hi Auntie Kole! Hi Uncle Warren!” Gigi said cheerfully, wrapping her arms around her uncle for a quick hug before doing the same to her aunt.

“Morning, sunshine!” Nikole greeted her niece, planting a kiss on the girl’s head before letting her go and pointing to an empty seat at the dining table. “Your breakfast is already served and ready: an organic smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese and spinach and a glass of freshly-squeezed lemonade, as requested. I hope you like it!”

Smiling, the young woman skipped to the table, took a seat and immediately dove right in. “Shoot, this is amazing! I’ll make sure to thank Lorna when I see her at dinner later,” Giselle gratefully noted through a mouthful of bagel, speaking about the lady who cooked the meals of the Diedrikson household.

The girl was halfway done with her breakfast before she realized there was someone missing from this scenario. “Where’s Richie? I thought he was giving me a ride to school this morning,” Gigi asked with a small frown of confusion settled on her freckled face, looking around the room for a second as if her blond cousin would magically materialize out of thin air.

Kole looked up from her phone. “Oh, he didn’t tell you?” she asked her niece, who vehemently shook her head. “He left a few minutes ago to pick up his friends before driving to the new school. But don’t worry, sugar cube! I told him I’d drive you to Rosefell myself! Won’t that be fun?!”

From across the table, Gigi and Warren exchanged silent looks. It wasn’t exactly a secret that Nikole Diedrikson was something of a ticking time bomb behind the wheel. She had a record of vehicular accidents dating back to her teenage years-- so many of them, that it was a miracle she hadn’t had her license suspended yet. Since getting the new position as Vogue editor in chief, Kole had taken full advantage of the company perk of getting her own personal driver-- which had not only saved the lives of numerous squirrels, trees, cars and inanimate objects alike, but had also provided her family with the relief of not having to live in constant fear of getting the news she’d crashed into yet another row of shopping carts while backing out of the Whole Foods parking lot. And as entertaining as Giselle had always found the endless supply of embarrassing stories, it certainly didn’t mean that she wanted to actually be a participant in the latest one.

But with how excited her aunt looked to be about driving her to school and spending some quality time together, there was no way Gigi would break her heart by asking to take an Uber. She’d just have to take her chances and hope for the best.

“Oh yeah! Definitely! Sounds like a blast!” she said sweetly instead, giving her aunt a smile before taking advantage of her distraction to mouth the words save me! to her uncle. Warren merely chuckled under his breath and shook his head as he took another sip of his coffee.

* * * * *

Five minutes later, Nikole and Giselle were racing down the streets of Columbus on the older woman’s Mercedes GLB, bringing all sorts of amused attention to themselves by the speed with which they drove and the EDM music blasting through the speakers. The two women laughed, danced, and sang their way to Rosefell, with Gigi using the opportunity to make content for her Snapchat and Instagram stories. It was while they messed around with the face-swapping filter that they failed to notice a dark-haired young man crossing the street, and Gigi barely had time to yell out the words:

“Auntie, watch out!”

With a loud “Eek!” and an even louder screeching sound, Nikole abruptly slammed on the brakes of the Mercedes, violently jerking both women forward but stopping just in time to avoid a collision with a young man standing right in front of the SUV. Hearts racing and eyes wide with shock, both women exchanged horrified looks, letting out a variety of high-pitched shrieks while wildly flapping their hands. This right here was exactly why Nikole Diedrikson was not allowed to drive anymore.

After the initial shock had worn off and her death via cardiac arrest wasn’t imminent, Giselle unbuckled her seat belt and hopped out of the luxury vehicle. “Oh my God! I am so sorry!” she cried out apologetically, rushing to the young man’s aid with her iridescent-manicured hands covering her mouth. From inside the car, an anxious Kole was making gestures of concern and mouthing the word ‘I’m sorry!’ over and over again. “My aunt is a terrible driver-- but you already know that, clearly… Are you okay?! Did she actually hit you anywhere?! God, Uncle Warren’s gonna throw a fit if he finds out...”
