I'm a little sketchy on what kinds of effects the AEGIS can have, how being a Holder factors into that, exactly what an ID is, what kind of extraneous equipment we're allowed to have, and how wild we can get with our Cross Gears.

Think of an AEGIS being like an EXP system from an RPG. The type of AEGIS you have (specializing in vitality, strength, speed, etc) are all different stat growths. They're essentially passive boosts to your body that increase as you fight. They have to be installed in a surgical process unlike a holder.

Holders are naturally born with something similar to the AEGIS system. It's less efficient, but lets them use codes (re: drinking up neon blood goo to gain magic spells). Holders don't require any surgery to get that EXP system; they're born with it instead. The downside of being one is that you are generally weaker (physically; you have spells) for the same effort.

An ID refers to any device that allows for using your codes/spells. Think a futuristic version of wands and staves, except coming in the form of armbands, gloves, really anything your character would want. Since codes are so complex, an ID is generally required to cast any form of spell. Think of it as a massive source code held in the genetic goo. Just reading it all at once to figure it out is prone to errors and would take hours. An ID, like a computer, could do it instantly.

As a general rule of thumb, a cross gear is always going to be better than anything gear. Your character can have any equipment that they see fit to use. Most equipment still follows the "empowered on the other world" rule, since they're usually made out of the otherworldly materials.

And WILD AS FUCK BOIIII. As long as you can call it a weapon, I'd probably be fine with it.

@Cu Chulainn put him in the character tab me bucko since he's accepted
@TheWindelI like her, put her in the character tab 'cause she's accepted.

Chloe's advance through the newly formed smoke was certainly a plan. Whether it was a good one or not was the question, but the answer wasn't immediately apparent. Judging by the gunshot and the scream, probably not the best. Lilliane couldn't easily tell because of the smoke and distance, but Chloe was probably shot. Her scream gave slight respite, as it meant she didn't die instantly.

As she turned back to face Taras, she quickly noticed him standing up no worse for wear. The dark of the night obscured his stand from her eyes. Not that she would have known what it is. Technology was accelerating at an incredible rate these days. Seeing something like that wouldn't have surprised her. What did surprise her in the callousness of his native words. Her Russian was a touch rusty, but she was certain that he just implied that he enjoyed pain. What was he, some kind of deviant? What peculiar agents England would send.

Well, she still needed to protect the supplies. Charging into gunfire wasn't her job. She would remain, not charging forward.

"I'll think of something," she yelled to the others before biting her thumb.

Plans formulated in her head. She had limited information. How many of them were there? Judging by the gunshots, one? No, that couldn't be right. Nazis weren't a solo act. Mortar team and a sniper? Why such a weird group? Why wouldn't they just send in the standard group to deal with a couple of partisans. If they were so dangerous, why not an entire group? Was this person shooting them even a nazi? What if it was a group of partisans that thought they were shooting at nazis? What an absolute moff up that would have been.

If they were a group of nazis, screaming French at them would result in getting shot in the face. If they were partisans, the shooter would stop. Excluding the idea that they're crazed gunmen. Crazed gunmen probably wouldn't stop. Was it worth the risk?
Are UNITs customizable or do they always have to be palm boxes.

Entirely customizable. They're usually the size of one's palm as they're non-combatants, but I'm not going to limit reasonable change. They're only a black box as in the black box of a plane. In the event of emergency, they can be used to figure out what happened. The design of them can vary significantly, depending on age, manufacturer, after-market upgrades, or just someone shoving every single sticker they find onto one.

At an untold time of prosperity and peace, the first of the gates opened. Unleashing otherworldly creatures into the world, humanity was caught off guard as all manner of beasts and monsters poured into cities. What would have been tragedy turned into triumph as man quickly fought back. Those monsters had been pushed back into the gates they came from. Not settled with just that, man struck at the very heart the monsters came from. By venturing into the gates, man found an otherworldly energy trapped within this other world. A time of great advancement with materials from this other world.

But that era has since passed.

Now fueled by a symbiotic relationship with these gates, life has changed. The gates still remain a threat, mankind has taken to walled cities and artificial islands leaving their old cities abandoned and fallen to disrepair. No longer does the military sortie into the other world. Instead, those willing to brave the danger for wealth dive in headfirst using special equipment: Cross Gears. Empowered weapons capable of doing the impossible created from science and otherworldly materials.

Only one question remains: how much can you earn?

I wonder if an AEGIS specializing in enhancing the mind's processing power is in the realm of possibility, and if that would grant any tangible benefit.

Yes and yes. Cross Gears that can use improved perception, faster thinking, parallel processing, or more can make use of it. Things that ricochet attacks, control drones, don't require one's body to attack, etc.

The ethical ramifications of loading up someone's brain with pure energy is something I'm just gonna sweep under the rug.
I am very interested. please keep us in the loop on this! I would be very interested in a cartographer style character who isn't so much earning money by finding treasure but earning money by creating and drafting maps of the regions on the other side of the gate.

That's fine. The powers that be also deal in information and the nature of gates mean that they're always buying. Though it does pay considerably less.

OOC either tomorrow or the day after, depending.

In the mean time, here's some world information and a character sheet.

If there's any questions, ask away.

So a concept I was wanting to do for a while. A dungeon exploration type RP in a futuristic setting. No overarching requirement to save the world, no gritty pain, just a bunch of people wanting to get rich off treasure. Add in a cup of monster hunter, a cup of anime scifi world on an artificial island, two cups of every single Korean dungeon crawler webtoon that the kids these days read, a splash of neon and a sprinkle of insane anime horse hockey.

The RP would follow a bunch of these treasure hunters in a semi-sandbox, diving into dungeons, making fat stacks of cash, beating up mooks, raid bosses, and improving their Cross Gears with what they find. Combat's gonna be frenetic and powerful. The other world unlocks your true potential, so while you might be an empowered human in the real world, on then other side you're going to punch (and be punched) straight through walls, all with a futuristic and neon vibe.

excuse the mistakes, this was a 2am fever dream to finally get the interest check down
Maybe I completely misread. I thought the post there said 250 coins was the reward?

Thinkin' rigidly.

The king will reward 250 coins for whatever it is.

but you can't put a price on friendship

or weapons of mass destruction in a medieval world.
