Yi's retort left XiaoPao looking up at him with a bewildered expression. Though he had spoken in a different dialect of Chinese than what XiaoPao spoke normally with her parents, the sounds were similar enough that she got the gist of it, and his translation was helpful. What confused and stunned XiaoPao was her brain trying to wrestle with a retort to the axiom that she had previously spouted, as if she had been given a problem to solve. "I...I'll PUNCH through the wall!" XiaoPao blurted out her 'answer' without much thought, before the announcement came from the teachers to form their groups. Before she went to join her teammates, she waved towards Yi as she walked away from him, "I'm XiaoPao Xia, but you can call me 'Pow'!"

Upon convening with Breeze and Raymond, XiaoPao visibly shook, giddy with excitement. "I'm XiaoPao Xia, but my friends call me 'Pow'! As you can see, I'm a shrimp. I can jump good..." at this, XiaoPao forcefully slammed her tail into the ground, sending her a few meters into the air before landing and continuing her introduction, "...I'm strong..." this was followed by XiaoPao throwing some straight jabs with her claws at the air, then clacking her claws together, "...and I'm kind of tough, but not as tough as CRYSTALS! Can you make crystal armor?!" XiaoPao was enamored by the very idea of Raymond posing and materializing a suit of crystalline protection.

Shifumi smirked at Marionetta's acknowledgment of her self-proclaimed title of 'boss', even if it had a hint of sarcasm. After all, humor was essential to a functional 'family'. Vincent's proclamation, on the other hand, did not go down so well with Shifumi. Sure, she came from the Yakuza, which many considered outdated, but misogynistic patriarchy was far more outdated. Shifumi quietly walked over in front of Vincent, accentuating the difference in their height. Almost like a creepy owl, Shifumi hunched down to bring her face closer to his. Despite a significant hunch, Shifumi still looked down at Vincent. "If I'm not mistaken, you newfangled villains are trying to send a message by one-upping the heroes in their flashiness, so discussions on how best to convey that message are not inappropriate. Gender has nothing to do with it. But maybe I'm wrong, I'm a Yakuza, so this is all still new to me." Shifumi backed off as she noticed Hasashi enter, noting that the new arrival also gave off Yakuza vibes. She hoped that she had sufficiently nipped the bud of a potential argument, but slightly lamented the possibility that she was going to have to be 'Team Mom' for this group of villains. She felt the impatience rising within the room, another sign of lack of discipline. Whoever had gathered them all here together obviously wielded power, and for that, deserved respect; waiting patiently was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to proper etiquette.

The sisters were all too glad to be out of that situation. Now the matter remained to finish the job and turn this map in to Forde. "I wonder where that Forde went?" Sylvia complained, "You know, I bet he knew about the zombies. I don't think there was a patrol at all! He was just coming up with an excuse to leave us to deal with trouble. The Guild should charge that rat double!"

Vivian nodded in agreement, when she heard Neil depreciate himself. "Actually, what are you good at, Neil?" Vivian asked, though there was no malice in her voice.

"Vivian!" Sylvia cried out in exasperation, grabbing her sister by the shoulders and shaking her.

"I'm not trying to be mean!" Vivian defended herself, "But everyone at the Guild has some specialty."

At Camille's reminder that they could just fly back to Sanginum, Hyouka slapped her own forehead in exasperation, saying, "Of course," then switched topics, "I asked about your friend because I'm curious to know if they had any more knowledge about the Emerald Knight. If not, then we probably should get back to Sanginum ASAP."

The info that Camille had already sent Hyouka was sufficiently disturbing. Even if this Knight was hard to track, at least it was known that they affiliated with the Death Skulls. If they only fought robots, should Hyouka and Camille just let the Knight finish them off and be done with it instead of let Gordian take the hit? Did the Knight retreat because they had 'accidentally' hurt Gordian? Or did the Knight recently change their MO? Such thoughts ran through Hyouka's head as she prepared to go back to Sanginum so long as Camille didn't have any objections.

XiaoPao walked stiffly towards the training arena. Due to an incident on the first day of class involving damage to negligent government property mistaken as unauthorized quirk use, XiaoPao had been detained by the authorities and prevented from attending class for an unsettling amount of time. After an inordinate amount of paperwork, background checks that involved some of her extended family, and some remedial lessons to catch her up with her classmates, XiaoPao was finally here among her peers, ready to learn how to be a hero!

Yet there she awkwardly stood at the edge of the crowd, students who had had a month to become friends. What if they thought her shrimpy parts were weird? What if they found her enthusiasm for niche topics annoying? No! She was going to become a hero, and courage and confidence were key! She should take a lesson from her idols and just go for it! XiaoPao was about to bombastically introduce herself when suddenly...

"Classmates! Yes, it is I, Steven Armani Rein! Whoever said that good things are to come in small doses obviously hadn't met me! How does the day find you all today?"

XiaoPao stood there, frozen in shock, her thunder having been stolen, her moment gone. How could she follow that up? "Gyagh...gyaaaaagh..." XiaoPao began fidgeting and froth formed on her lips, an unfortunate trait of having a crustacean quirk. But since her attention was on Steven, she heard someone react to him.

"It is because too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Like water. Drink too much and you could die. Eat too much you become obese, train too hard you stunt your potential. Sleep too much you miss out. Except for kung fu movies and some noodles. I can't get enough of them.”

"D-Did you say Kung Fu movies?" XiaoPao crouched and slammed her tail against the ground, causing her to dash suddenly over to Yi's side. Zipping over had caused the accumulating froth to streak across XiaoPao's left cheek. With an unsightly slurp, XiaoPao wiped away the froth. "I-I like Kung Fu movies too! Wai faai but po!" XiaoPao declared, stating a Cantonese phrase that translated as 'only speed is unbreakable', while striking a pose.

Shifumi Ushiyama // Ushi-Oni

Shifumi arrived at the warehouse only to notice a few people had already gathered. Wordlessly, she checked her watch. Right on time. These others must be early birds. She was just glad that she wasn't late; it wouldn't do to behave unprofessionally and make a poor first impression. She was dressed in an expensive-looking business suit, complete with silk tie, leather shoes, and typical Yakuza sunglasses. She obviously wasn't going to wear her armor walking around town, but she still had to let people know that she wielded power through wealth. That coupled with her intimidating height made certain that trouble avoided her. And she wanted to let the other members of the League know that she was Yakuza; it was a part of her identity and being Yakuza and League of Villains was not something that needed to be mutually exclusive, even though the rise of villains was, in part, responsible for the decline of organized gangs.

It looked like those gathered had entered into an argument. Shifumi 'tsk'-ed in disappointment. That was something 'villains' lacked: discipline. But better to put her misgivings aside and at least introduce herself and perhaps defuse the situation. Besides, the yseemed to be arguing about 'style', so maybe her presence and obviously Yakuza get-up would give them something else to criticize. "Yo. Shifumi Ushiyama. You can call me Shifumi, but I also respond to 'Boss' or 'Aneki'. Otherwise I go by 'Ushi-Oni'." Though she began casually and led into a bit of a joke by asking them to call her 'Boss', she followed it up with a deep, respectful bow.

XiaoPao tends to dress very casually when not in uniform, most of the time sporting sweatpants and some t-shirt with a weird design or mascot character. She also wears black rubber claw-gloves with bumps and various attachments for interacting with everyday human objects, lovingly made by her father. XiaoPao enjoys IP merchandise from her favorite genres, and loves displaying said merch whenever given the opportunity. Her aesthetic resembles that of a middle school fanboy for all things shounen and martial arts. The only thing she really lacks is video game merchandise because her hands are not conducive to playing games, so she never really got into them.

Distinguishing Features:

XiaoPao is short for her age, often getting mistaken for a middle schooler. She has long, straight, red hair that goes down to her calves, and guarded, red eyes. Long antennae sprout from the top of her head, while her skin is covered in patches of rust-red shell. Instead of hands, her arms end in pincers, with her left being larger and bulkier than her right.

Does whatever a shrimp can! She has powerful, crushing claws and a powerful tail that helps her jump high in the air and swim rapidly. She can breathe underwater, plates of red shell pepper her skin, providing some protection, and overall, she has greater than average strength for a human her size. Long antennae sprout from the top of her head, are sensitive to smell and touch, and aid her otherwise clumsy fingers.

In depth Quirk Details:

Most of her strength lies in her crushing power, less so lifting or pulling, so we won't be seeing shrimp loli throw semis around at any point. She can crack concrete in a single punch, but to truly break a brick would currently require several punches, though her shell would crack painfully in the process. Her tail allows her to leap to the top of a one-story building. Her shell is strong but not yet strong enough to block a bullet, but will grow to become stronger over time. If damaged, her shell will regrow and heal slowly over time.

Quirk Development:

Her left pincer is significantly larger and clumsier than her left, but she doesn't quite yet know why. The reason is that she is capable of learning the Pistol Shrimp sonic bullet death snap.



The idea is an explosive sonic bullet; a ranged concussive blast like a small cannon or shotgun, meant for single-target damage and not for crowd-control that could perhaps evolve into an AoE cone attack. She hasn't yet sustained enough damage to lose a limb, so she has no idea that her shrimp arms regenerate. If her pistol arm gets damaged, her small arm will grow into the big pistol arm while the other regenerates into a small arm, effectively switching her handedness, which can be debilitating as she has to learn to become left-handed. But it might make her arms eventually even out, allowing pistol attacks from both claws, and for both to be similarly sized. Ideally, she would also learn to perform a Mantis Shrimp death punch (XiaoPao is a fan of Bruce Lee, so being able to perform her own version of the One-Inch Punch would be a dream), similar to how Tsuyu exhibits abilities of many frogs, as well as non-frog abilities like camouflage.

• Manual Dexterity Gloves - Black rubber sleeves with specialized attachments that fit over XiaoPao's claws and overcome her disability of having claws instead of hands, allowing her to interact with her smartphone, open doorknobs, use pencils, open milk cartons, etc.

XiaoPao opened her eyes and she wasn't in kindergarten anymore, the jeers fading back into her memory. She smiled. Thanks to the encouragement of her family and friends, she had made it this far. Despite the taunts that a 'Saturday Morning TV Show Monster' couldn't be a hero, here she was at the entrance to USJ. It had been a long and hard road, fighting against stigma and disability, so XiaoPao allowed herself a moment of celebration. Clacking her claws together, she did a double fist pump before proceeding to spin in place out of excitement, swinging her arms around.

BANG!

A cold sweat formed on XiaoPao's forehead as she slowly turned to see the huge dent in the driver door of the police car that she had unwittingly wandered into during her spinning. But worse than the dent was the look of utter terror on the face of the policeman sitting inside, completely startled at having his car get attacked during his coffee break. Realizing she was in big trouble, XiaoPao began to shake, while attempts to offer an explanation only caused her to devolve into making noises, going, "GYAGH! GYAGH!" This was unfortunately perceived by the policeman as a threat and unauthorized quirk use; the confused officer called for backup, and the situation escalated. It was still going to be a long, hard road.

Shy and introverted, XiaoPao is an otaku who likes nerdy, boyish things, like Super Sentai, Ultraman, Godzilla movies, Cantonese Kung Fu movies, and giant mecha anime. She has poor self-awareness and loses herself to excitement when it comes to her hobbies or when doing 'heroic' deeds. This makes her appear to switch between an 'outgoing' side and an embarrassed, shy side. Her spirit burns with fiery heroism. When flustered (and she is easily flustered), XiaoPao tends to become inarticulate and resorts to making guttural noises that usually come out as a 'Gyaaaaagh! Gyaaagh! Gyaaaaaagh!', often accompanied by bubbles and froth forming at her mouth.

Of particular note is XiaoPao's extreme lack of manual dexterity, as she has pincers instead of hands. She has special gloves and other handicap equipment for dealing with everyday objects like doorknobs, eating utensils, computer keyboards, and her cell phone.

Eating Habits:

XiaoPao was taught from a young age that heroes were not picky about their food and always ate their vegetables so they could grow up to be strong, so XiaoPao has always had a fairly healthy and nutritious diet. She isn't a health nut, and does like her occasional snack or junk food, but she never loses self-control, or let her cravings consume her. Her one weakness is sour foods, while she is fine with a dash of vinegar or lemon and lime added for flavor, excessively sour foods is not something she can handle. Seafood of any sort is her favorite.

Hygiene Habits:

XiaoPao was taught from a young age that heroes required self-discipline. Due to her clumsy fingers, acts of personal hygiene, like tooth brushing and applying soap when washing, were difficult. But her parents taught her to push through and overcome the difficulty in order to develop self-discipline. So XiaoPao now has very regimented self-care routines. She's not afraid of getting dirty, because she knows she'll clean herself up, but messy behavior, like dropping crumbs on the floor, is one of her pet peeves.

Shifumi is slender and over two meters tall with sickly, pale skin. Due to metabolic stress and age, she has white streaks in her hair, which she styles to look reminiscent of horns. She normally wears an apathetic poker face, but when she smiles, it is gentle and sinister. She exudes an oppressive aura and pins people with black, lusterless eyes. She hunches often to listen to people shorter than her speak.

When Shifumi has an immune reaction, her white blood cells release a strength-enhancing chemical. Shifumi realized that she was strongest when she was sick, but this was not a reliable way to sue her quirk. By studying human physiology, Shifumi learned that many people with medical implants develop a 'passive inflammation' from rejecting the non-bio-inert materials their implants were made of. Shifumi went through the painful process of subcutaneously embedding bio-reactive staples into her musculature to ensure that her body is in a perpetual state of bio-rejection, and thus operating at peak physical condition (Captain America levels of strength) at all times. However, the build up of metal particulates and an overactive immune system have taxed her liver and kidneys, meaning a solid hit to those organs will cause her to lose consciousness due to the pain alone. She is also no longer able to partake in alcoholic beverages as her liver would not be able to handle it. She also regularly draws her own blood and, using medical facilities available to her, extracts the serum, which her allies can consume as a temporary strength boost.

Shifumi also happens to be allergic to peanuts, which becomes a gift and a curse; by inhaling powdered peanuts, her body goes into anaphylactic shock, which is an immune reaction that her quirk converts into a 1-minute desperation super-mode where her strength and speed are greatly enhanced. Before this one minute is up, she must use her Epi-Pen and anti-histamines on herself or else she will lose consciousness and risk death. Even if she uses the pen and anti-histamines, her immune system will be temporarily compromised, which means she completely loses the strengths of her quirk.

A less potent, but less deadly variant of this technique involves poison ivy. Shifumi regularly purchases poison ivy extract that she infuses into aerosol canisters hidden within her armor. If she wants to get serious, she presses a button in her armor, causing an itchy mist of poison ivy extract to be released, coating her skin, creating a non-lethal immune reaction that boosts her strength significantly. It sucks to experience, but its a more-or-less immediate, and more importantly, low-risk immune reaction that her quirk can take advantage of. It also pisses her off, making her generally more aggressive.

The age of organized crime families was over, yet Shifumi clung to the outdated way of life and to tradition. Across the table sat a member of the League of Villains, an organization that had new ideals intended to challenge the heroes of the world. She didn't like it. The only ideals that mattered to her were honor, loyalty, and family. Yet she knew that if she remained stubborn and failed to adapt to the changes of time, her and the people under her protection would suffer.

Shifumi and her mother grew up in destitution in the streets of Oakland. While heroes protected people from physical dangers, like natural disasters and villains, nobody was going to save anyone from financial inequality. In the dark, seedy underbelly of society, overlooked by humanity's 'saviours', Shifumi had to fight to protect what was hers. It wasn't long before she joined a small street gang to protect her neighborhood, moving from one organization to the next based on the perceived strength of the organization. Soon she found herself as the local enforcer of a branch of the Japanese Yakuza in the Bay Area. As long as she continued to serve with distinction, Shifumi and her mother's lives were decent, some might even consider luxurious. But in addition to being just muscle, Shifumi was a fast learner, and demonstrated the 'heart' of a Yakuza member with her loyalty and dedication. Eventually, leadership of the local group passed to her. At some point, Shifumi's mother passed away, but she passed away in comfort. Now Shifumi had a bigger family to take care of.

She couldn't bear to see everything she and those who preceded her had worked so hard to build torn down by young, irreverent, volatile upstarts. But how did the saying go? If you're not at the table, you're on the menu. Shifumi turned back to the League of Villains representative. They were powerful, there was no denying that. Though they lacked discipline, they had...fervor. The organization was unpolished, but perhaps a strong, experienced, guiding hand could shape them into something great. And with a position within the League, Shifumi could negotiate for the preservation of her own group, perhaps even merge them, and allow both the Yakuza and the League to co-evolve to fit the current climate.

PERSONALITY:

The spine, the foundation, Ushiyama Shifumi presents a facade of immovable strength. She speaks softly, but with weight, keeping her expression placid and her thoughts and emotions close to her chest. During confrontations, however, she is brutal and relentless, preferring to end the confrontation swiftly. To those close to her, she can be motherly in a tough love sort of way, but for the most part, she doesn't let people get close emotionally because she knows that she has too much to lose if such weaknesses ever got exploited.

Skills/Talents:

As the former leader of a Yakuza group, Shifumi has management, leadership, and diplomacy skills. She also has quite a bit of capital to back her up. Being a bit of a traditionalist, Shifumi has exposure to various forms of Japanese martial arts, though her forte is jiujitsu.

Aspiration:

Shifumi's loyalty, first and foremost, is to her Yakuza group. She desires to keep them and their families safe and well-fed, even if that means going up against heroes or other villains. Due to the rise in heroism and villainy, the Yakuza has seen tough times, and Shifumi hopes that allying with the League of Villains will give her and her group legitimacy in the eyes of other villains so that they can cooperate against the forces that seek to suppress their collective ambitions.

Strength & Weakness:

Besides her quirk, Shifumi's greatest strength is her organizational leadership and willingness to negotiate, a rare trait in a world of egotistical, self-important villains. She can take a step back and consider what the more pragmatic options are, instead of letting her pride take the reins. Her greatest weaknesses are actually her ties to her Yakuza group. Members getting taken hostage is not something she can ignore.

My Hero Academia: Another Story

I just read through the posts since the last GM update. I had a few questions to hopefully get fully caught up:

1. Are there CS's for Momo and Melissa?

2. I assume the upcoming event is a team competition exam? It sounds like an exam took place previously. What were the particulars of that (or any previous events that might have taken place)?

3. I don't really like ret-conning characters into existence. Since my sample post for XiaoPao involved her hilariously getting arrested on the first day of school, I was thinking that this caused enough of a delay (through paperwork, and what-have-you) that XiaoPao was prevented from attending and only now shows up, after also taking catch-up courses and such.

4. What is the objective of the villain meeting? Ar all the villains new inductees to the League of Villains? Is it okay if I just have Shifumi show up, just because she was invited?
