Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.
Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss
Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)
Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.
Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.
RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.
As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.
RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.
And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.
Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...
Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.
Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.
With all the scrums done, I will post the NoC starter soonTM. But in the meantime, I would like everyone to decide amongst yourselves what everyone would like to do. Ideally, I'd like everyone who is interested in participating in the NoC to be in a “team” that will handle some responsibility, be it rescuing Krista, fighting Nariko, warding off the other carnage sisters (might need multiple teams for all the different paths they can take. Remember: they start in their own rooms and can come back if defeated.), placing home alone style traps everywhere, just use your imaginations. For anyone concerned that Nariko is going to be the only interesting thing happening during this NoC: don't worry.
I'd like these teams to not have too many people in them, so that we can maybe do everyone's part as a collab. Maybe 3-4 players tops. But again, you guys decide how you wanna do it. I'm avalable to give suggestions, but I'd prefer it if everyone could kind of make their own choices.
Yea, we're a collaborative writing site, it just makes sense to have a contest like that at some point. I'm also kind of curious what a "competitive collab" might look like. There is an art to writing something with someone else.
@ArenaSnow I imagine the contest will be run like the last one. Though I would personally insist on a higher word limit, and to be less flexible with it. 1K stories tend to be more artistic/experimental in nature while higher word counts let writers get to the point. That's not to say that shorter entries shouldn't be allowed, just that everyone should know what the true word limit is, and not pass it.
Another feature I would insist on, but not expect to get implemented, would be a judging panel. I know people don't like to trust judges, but the other contest had a pretty small turnout as far as votes go. But I leave those types of choices in Frizan's capable hands. From what I've seen, they seem to have a good handle on what the community wants. If the older discussions are anything to go by.
Valentine's day, better known to singles as "singles awareness day." Couples know it as "listen to singles complain on social media, and risk sleeping on the couch tonight because your gift wasn't good enough" day. It's on Valentine's day most people forget about their platonic relationships with friends and family.
What I'm proposing for a contest is to have the entries be about the relationships of two individuals, be it romantic love or platonic friendship. The stories would be written by two authors. They could treat it like a collab and then edit it together, or maybe one acts as a story writer and the second acts as an editor. There are too many different types of arrangements to list.
I can see why Terminal's reviews are so celebrated now. Almost makes me want to join the next contest. But no, no. We clearly need more voters/judges/etc.
@Exit The story came through alright for me. I understood it. The connection to the prompt was not lost to me. The prompt was simply the last deciding point for me, and a way to bring up another entry that I almost gave my vote to. I did not count it out for the prompt, just as I didn't count out "It Gets Easier Over Time" for going over the word limit. I would honestly be shocked if no one voted for "potatoes," but sometimes that's just how these contests go.
@PlatinumSkink Yea, I decided to take part in the community contests. Figured I've been around long enough, I should participate in something as important as the revival of the contest section.
So yea, I read all the entries and made a review of each one.
A short read, but one that made good use out of every word. You went into just enough detail to assist the reader with constructing the scene.
Something that might have made the punchline a bit stronger is if you weren't silly all the way through. Sometimes being dramatic is important to set people up for a good laugh.
Though I suspect this was a joke entry. Good enough to act as a real entry anyway, even if it didn't make me laugh.
The beginning of this story was kind of confusing. We don't know their names, what they look like, etc. It isn't until we get about half way through that a few details start to come out. I think this could simply be corrected by by describing the storm, building, and characters before they start talking to each other.
The second, larger part of your story gets it right though. Alder was an interesting character, and while not a lot is said of his past or even what's currently going on, the reader can fill in the blanks pretty easily. Despite this story having a bit of a bloated word count, you did make good use of those words. There are a few redundant descriptions however. (Example: go outside to think your thoughts, etc) Otherwise, you have a pleasant writing style.
Stories like this aren't my cup of tea. Having said that, I probably would have gotten greater enjoyment if it was a bit more organized.
Just a little over the word count eh?
I think I was suppose to feel bad for the main character, as the story seems to hinge so much on their emotional state. But I found them pathetic and didn't really care about what they were trying to. This left me feeling detached the entire time I was reading. His plan didn't even seem like it would bare much fruit anyway. Or was that the idea? This might be nitpicking, but I'm pretty sure finding someone's microchip outside their body would look pretty suspicious, especially if you believe said person jumped off a bridge.
I would have liked to know a bit more about what he was trying to accomplish, more so than how he actually did it. That, and a reason to think the character was anything more than a screw up running away from his troubles, only to inevitably have them catch up to him.
“I’m just getting a peppermint flavor next time...” kue kue kue...
Probably one of the sweeter stories I've read that happened in a grave yard. I enjoyed the story itself, and liked that you kept the word count under 1K. Though the second half of the story felt underdone compared to the first half.
If I had any issues with the narrative, it was how Ellis talked to himself out loud like he was an anime character. The story probably could have been done in first person to get the same results. Then there are these two huge run-on sentences:
...Noticing one of the Sunday regular’s, a widow that’s lived decades longer, wearing a Renaissance widow dress, approaching a weeping angel statue, collapsing to the ground and letting out anguished cries, beneath a rainbow off in the distance towards the city...
...Underneath the pale moonlight partially shrouded by clouds, the stink coming from his muffler was nearly suffocating, pulling into the driveway and checked the displaying time on the radio, softly playing some classic rock...
Still, I enjoyed the story.
That is 100% better than the entry you were originally going to go with. I don't feel bad about being mean to you now. Even though you never explicitly say it, I know the point of view god is a chick, and that makes this story even better!
In all seriousness, I enjoyed the story. I do think it would have been possible to get under the 1k word limit, and you did forget to add quotations around some of Miriam's dialog. The story itself was conveyed well enough however.
Good read.
I know they said you could go over the word count, but 3k+ just sounds excessive when the limit was suppose to be 1 k. I even think it was possible. Golan could have been discovered in the streets, and the sister's inclusion in the story was entirely irrelevant. I also think Golan's story would have been much more interesting if it was shorter, as it still doesn't really clear up everything.
The story reads very well however. There were no glaring errors in the actual writing itself that I could see. A good read, but Golan's tale is definitely the weakest part of the story.
I've seen this done before. And while I enjoy stories that are mostly talking, stories that are literally all talking seem to lack something. It's very easy to get confused as to who's talking or feel much of the atmosphere.
No glaring issues with the prose itself. Not really my cup of tea, but it is one of the better stories I've seen written this way.
Oh, like mister potato head, I get it!
Interesting story, though I don't see a clear connection to the prompt.
The writing itself was pretty good. I can't think of anything to actually critique without going into nitpicking territory.
Good job.
Hi pLAT, WHAT'S UP? Why is everyone over 1k words REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Despite it's length, I felt you made good use of the words. That was also a good use of the prompt. Much like potatoes, I don't think I can really say anything negative about this one without going into nitpicking territory. Save for the part that goes “Bloodshot, large man, local villain, sat with his hands together inspecting me along with the three other present power-users under his command.” That probably could have been restructured.
Good job.
1085 words, SO CLOSE!
It was kind of hard to get into the story. I think the world you selected for the story was a bit too expansive for 1k words. I didn't really understand the mind scape, the chaos, or any of that stuff. I do understand that Soren was probably crazy and mistook his sanity for insanity. But that's it.
I wasn't really a fan of the formatting.
My vote goes to “ It’ll get easier over time” by PlatinumSkink. I would have given it to potatoes, but I felt like it didn't get close enough to the prompt.
Good entries, tempted to join the next one. But then who would be left to vote? Phu phu phu phu!
”Like, don't try to make this about you and me, Mr politician! Trust is something we all have.” Jezebel balled her hand into a fist. ”You're totally fooling yourself if you think we can openly trust a 'leader' who hides things from us.”
"You can't be serious, Jez. How can you justify throwing a life away like that?"
Zachary's remark had snatched Jezebel's attention away from Cyrus. ”Seriously?!” The clown turned around and marched towards the archer, with Cyrus just being an afterthought. ”Like, I didn't hear you tell anyone that when Aleecia's life was in danger. Like, is it only throwing life away when it's someone you care about? The other infinites have killed more of us than the grody robots have!”
Bliss was still undecided. She hated how some of the infinites were acting, but it was understandable that everyone would be a little rowdy. This wasn't some action flick where the good guys were fated to win. It was more like a horror, where there were no good options and they all ended in death. Bliss was snapped out of her trance when a pair of small hands latched onto her. When she looked down, she could see Caora nestling up against her, pleading to make the arguing stop. While the nanny didn't have the power to do that, she was able to decide where she stood on things.
”It's too dangerous.” She said while hugging Caora. ”We can't risk more lives to save Krista. Even if you're willing to sacrifice yourselves, think about the people who rely on you.” She looked at everyone. ”I want Krista back just as badly as everyone else. But I don't want to see anyone get hurt to do it.” Bliss covered her face with her hands. It felt awful to say, but how many more people would die if they fought the sisters tonight?
Meanwhile, Denis seemed to be oblivious to what was going on, preferring to flirt with the dice master instead of talk seriously about the situation. "Ayy baby we can't give you to them, because I will give it to you." Denis smiled to himself, unconcerned with the glares from the other infinites. "No wonder you the infinite dice master, because you rolled a ten baby." Bliss was appalled, how could anyone expect to be taken seriously talking like that? “Are you from Tennessee because you’re the only ten I see.” Wasn't he suppose to be Russian?"Hello babushka are you communist cause I make you..."
The room erupted into chaos shortly afterward. The infinites talked over one another, and no resolution could be made. Not everyone present was even talking about Krista's predicament. But the chaos was quickly drowned out when Monokuma Pulled an air horn out of his mouth and blasted it for a good five seconds. He waited for everyone to quiet down and turn towards him before speaking. ”You know what? I've recently been watching a lot more American sports. Particularly football. It's hard to not get absorbed in all the violence.” Monokuma pulled a football helmet out from behind his back and placed it on his head. Some of the infinites would remember him dawning it the night Calvin was captured. ”And they have this position called a scrum. Any time a reset in play is needed, everyone on both teams lines up in front of an opponent and pushes against each other.” The bear giggled. ”So let's restart play, shall we? Doctor's orders.”
A lever popped up beside Monokuma, and with a simple tug, the room started to transform. The chairs and tables collapsed into the floor, and a single counter that ran the length of the diner emerged. Even the ground shifted, separating everyone into teams depending on their stance on Krista's rescue. Once everyone was in position, the lights on the ceiling dimmed a bit. Even though they weren't on the roller coaster, it felt a bit like the court of carnage. ”Man, it feels like I've done something like this before... Anyway, you guys can start screaming at each other now. Hopefully you'll find doing things this way a bit more productive.” Monokuma pulled the cage over his face as everyone lined up at the counter.
Obviously it's not set in stone. For Jezebel I would be okay with her debating Zach or Cyrus.
I'd like everyone who is interested in participating in the scrum to let me know. We can definitely find a match for everyone. If you've already written a post, you can just like this post because I need to feel loved to let me know you'd like to be included in it. It would be most helpful. It would also be helpful if you could decide among yourselves who you want to debate with, and notify @Warpcircuit of what you'd like your character's banner to say. Here's something he made as a sample:
If you're worried you might not have an opponent, Bliss and Denis haven't stated their stance yet, and could be made into opponents for anyone. There are a few other characters like that as well. But again, participation isn't mandatory. This is just something that a few users were talking about on discord that they decided they wanted to try.
I would like @Ariamis, @Kitsune, and @Vocab to show their stance on the current issue being discussed. you don't have to write a great big long post, I'd just like to see who wants to combat the carnage sisters and who's okay with turning over Aleecia to Nariko.
An idea that was discussed on discord was to have a sort of mock scrum debate where everyone participates in 1x1 collabs with someone who has an opposing viewpoint.@Warpcircuit offered to make banners for the occasion, and they look quite good actually. But I need to know where the characters stand and if they feel passionate enough to argue with someone about it. and if you want a banner, Warp needs to know what you want your character's point to be.
I'm not going to hold up the RP for this, it was just a sort of spur of the moment thing that came up on discord that sounded fun.
