Can I play a newtype lol

I'm staying away from newtypes as in the evolution of humanity and ambiguous psychic ability. Humans are stuck as humans.

The exception is the augmentation surgery that allows someone to sync with their mech and use their brain to control it rather than physical controls. Upsides and downsides to that, though.
Oh right, weapons-wise, is there melee or just ranged weapons?

There's melee and ranged. The scope of melee ranges from "this is a last ditch effort" to having mechs specifically designed for it and all auxiliary ranged weapons/systems support their ability to cut things in half.

For melee, beamswords, chainswords, massive hunks of metal, energy emitting blades, etc are all viable.
Tempted, what is the moon like and the rest of the human colonies?

The Moon is effectively a small amount of specialized colonies. It's the most limited in habitation (the largest reason for that being political), so the majority of residents are the rich, powerful, and self-proclaimed elites. Think faux-greenery, pristine white buildings, and a general elitist vibe in the residential bases and extremely specialized and clean mega-facilities for the other moon bases.

The Mars colony is one big metropolis. A bunch of interconnected megadomes. Think industrial concrete, hazy skies, and a poorer quality of life. Besides the general lack of resources and the constant labour, it's not horrible.

The Outer Colonies are generally comprised of space stations designed to act as relays to mine from asteroids. Quality of life is generally pretty bad. Basically, you're out in the boonies mining for months on end. There's never enough and help is 3 months away. Think just before (or inside) the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Basically, the further out from Earth you go, the more destitute things become.

There's some more specific information in my test thread write-up.
Hey, my girlfriend loves space lesbians!

Though on a scale of 1-20, just how fucked is Earth supposed to be?

12? 15? Very fucked. The majority of cities have been reduced to piles of rubble. The ones that still stand are abandoned with structural overgrowth. The entire coastline was basically washed away. If you were unlucky enough to live near where a crystal fell, you were effectively turned into crater vapour.

Besides the immediate effect of dropping a bunch of heavy objects, there's also the anomalous weather. Black clouds of crystal dust that jam communications, hazes that block out the sun, things of that order.

Permanent settlement is pretty impossible in its current form. While the mech-aliens aren't plentiful or intelligent enough to be part of an ecosystem or form their own civilization, they tend to be pretty territorial. Any attempt at a large outpost would be stomped out pretty quickly. Basically, think about camping in the woods and a bear just struts along because it thinks you have honey.

In the more pleasant regions, there's still birds, insects, and other small fauna. Not enough time to evolve, but enough for some adaptations.

Basically, it's borked enough that it can't be resettled yet, but still has diversity. Jungles, forests, plains, city ruins, etc. It's not a massive molten slag heap.

OP - 「METEOR」

Crystal spikes from the sky rained upon Earth. Civilization, nature, or sea, it didn't matter the target. Cities were fractured, continents split, and the tide thrust itself upon the land. The world as we knew it, with all of its joys and imperfections, vanished that day.

Humanity would try to rebuild. That's what it had always done in the face of destruction. However, something stopped them. The spikes that had pierced the Earth had brought a gift alongside their arrival. Giants of steel awoke from their dormancy. They emerged from the canyons and fractures created by the spikes. They crushed humans like ants. The weapons humans were so proud of did little to even scratch the metal that the beasts were comprised of.

So mankind escaped. With as many survivors as possible, man took to the Moon. With them, they took their dreams of home. They would reclaim Earth.

Of course, space was not as prosperous as Earth. Trivial matters became processes and the long-term effects of space faring were beginning to become apparent. To find a solution, man looked back to their home. From the remains of the beasts that had destroyed their home, man found a path. One that would allow them to fight back against the invaders that took their home.

Knights.

Hello and welcome.

It's ya neighbourhood goblin coming at you with a mecha RP. Inspirations are pretty on the sleeve for this one. Witch from Mercury (and Gundam in general), Evangelion, etc.

The RP will follow a group of trainee pilots sponsored by megacorps as they have to navigate being used as political tools for arms manufacturers, an academy life filled with pride and prejudice, a world government that seems to keep things secret, and being weapons of war expected to risk life and limb in order to scavenge physics-defying items.

As for technology levels, think pretty far in the future. More prosthetic and less cybernetic. Generally, the deepest technology goes is faster (but still painfully slow in the grand scheme of things) space travel, pilots being able to mentally control their mech via mental connections (ala Evangelion), and colonies/space stations functioning from scavenged alien technology.

I'm looking for a small-ish (3 to 8) group and more-or-less weekly posts.

If there's any questions, shoot 'em. It's a lot easier for me to answer direct questions than try to cover absolutely everything.

If you're interested in reading preliminary lore to get an overall idea, you can find a test thread here. I may revise large portions of it, so don't treat it as absolute.

While Mingmei didn't seem impressed, she certainly was happy for Hyun-Woo. His excitement was infectious, judging by the fact that Mingmei was jumping and clapping at his side, cheering on for his first win.

It was a fight that was neither duel nor bimu. More than anything else, it was a spar. Still, a win was a win. Even though their lives weren't on the line and they weren't pushing themselves to the absolute limit, it was still an important first for any martial artist.

The caravan master was still not impressed. To him, it wasn't a matter of someone proving their worth. What mattered more to an unimportant supply caravan was muscle and work ethic. Allowing the third-rates to fight was closer to letting an excited child tucker themselves out.

The third-rates may have looked upon Hyun-Woo more favourably, but the caravan master began to look more favourably upon Jin. He stood there shaking as he carried three men's worth of rice. He could appreciate that kind of motivation.

Third rates certainly didn't have the luxury of relaxing like the second and first rates. Just as quickly as the fight started, the caravan master yelled at the group to continue to load rice and finish the remaining preparations.

Soon, the caravan would leave and Xincai would become a hazy memory.

The Hunt for the Madwoman @Restalaan
A warm but familiar wave washed over Xiao Shan. Certainly, it wasn't something delicious she drank. The taste wasn't anything pleasant, but it wasn't anything horrid either. Rather, the only thing she could taste was a hint of fruit and lots of burning. The burning felt like it came from drinking it at once rather than taking sips.

"Accepting a challenge of poison from a Tang is a strange bravado. I do hope that you learn a lesson about trust at some point."

The madwoman opened both jars and drank them with little gusto.

"The joke is that they're all poison. A cruel poison that blanks the mind and turns men into monsters. Yet people drink it for pleasure, myself included."

She placed the two jars back in her outfit.

"I do suppose you have entertained me to some degree. I'll follow you to whatever magistrate has jurisdiction. Servants, my palanquin."

The madwoman tossed a small vial on the ground, a small puff of smoke erupting as the collapsed "servants" abruptly woke up. Even though Xiao Shan was relatively distant, she could smell the smoke from her position. There wasn't really any way to properly describe it, other than the smell of being kicked in the head by a horse.

"I have my own business with the magistrate."
Empty Village, Henan

As Xiaying scooted closer, Sima didn't make a comment. Perhaps he though that it was for the better if he played the part of a statue. At least, for now.

With rest and preparations out of the way, the three warriors traversed the wilds and whatever roads they came across. The journey to the village was peaceful. In fact, the only thing that would have caused any stress was Sima's habit of wandering away. It became quite apparent on why his sense of direction was so poor. If something seemed interesting, he would move towards it. After the first few times he wandered off on his own, the group placed him at the front. At least then they could keep an eye on him.

The village was, like their journey, devoid of note. Yet it was not serene like the calm wilds. A cold air permeated the village. All three felt unwelcome. Xiaying felt the brunt of it. It was brutal sense of unease that was completely foreign to her senses. There hadn't been traces of a battle, but the village did not feel abandoned. It was as though the peddler had described; they had vanished.

A few dozen straw homes surrounded an overgrown cliff face. Spring storms seemed to have partially damaged some of the homes, but it was nothing that a day's labour couldn't fix. The few rice paddies that the village possessed had been sown and grown, but they had yet to be harvested. The occasional footstep could be found in the dirt, but most have been concealed by the rain and wind.

Sima's nature of becoming side-tracked seemed to become a boon while in the village. He managed to hop from clue to clue. Coins barely sticking out of mud. Farming implements that had been taken care of. Fabrics that were meant to be worn. Everything that pointed to villagers simply vanishing.

"So," he asked to Xiaying and Yifang, "what kind of village leaves their home without taking a thing with them?"

The look on his face was rather grim. He seemed to already have a clue to an answer.

"I suppose that could work," the scholar replied to Hyun-woo. "I would have to see if whatever escort agency will be able to take me along, though."

"I should formally introduce myself, then." The scholar took a step back as she performed a slight bow with both hands clasped. "I am Yang Mingmei. I'm going to go out to speak with whoever's in charge. It's a good thing I haven't paid for a room yet!"

With that, she was already running out of the inn with a renewed hope in her eyes. Though, she was a little bright-eyed considering that it was almost sundown.
As the evening turned to night and night turned to morning, Hyun-woo and Bin Jin found themselves turned away at the gate. It was honestly to be expected. They were both, in all honesty, no-names who found themselves in possession of a placard denoting the job. They didn't exactly go through the recruitment process that everyone else did. Perhaps they could have gotten away with it if they had a strong reputation or connections, but neither did. As such, the guards outside of the escort agency seemed to try to shoo them away. It wasn't until a familiar voice called to them.

"Don't worry, they're my guards!" A young scholar's voice yelled past the guards. The gate leading to the escort agency opened and revealed a convoy of carts, horses, third-rate warriors, porters, and a Yang Mingmei who had been filled with food and treats.

The leader of the convoy, judging by his barking at all of the warriors and porters, shrugged, beckoned "Jin" and Hyun-woo over, and pointed to some of the satchels of rice that had yet to be placed on a cart.

Mingmei skipped over to the two young warriors and greeted them.

"I ended up asking around. Turns out, the owner of this agency seems to owe my grandfather a great deal. I knew that he was a pretty important person, but he never did like telling me about what he did before he raised me. I managed to get you two in as actual escort warriors."

The Hunt for the Madwoman @Restalaan
"Hmmm...?"

The madwoman's eyes followed Xiao Shan's thumb as it pointed back to the trees.

"Whether here or there seems to have no difference," she mused, "it's all just the forest. Thus I do not see a point in following the commandment of paper providence. If a poster demands I'm brought to the wilds, to what does it matter where?"

The madwoman took a seat on one of the collapsed men.

"Of course, the matter of following another is a different story. If you partake in my challenge, I shall follow you wherever you want."

Taking out three small jars from various pockets, the madwoman revealed them to Xiao Shan. All three jars seemed to share the exact same design. A blank porcelain jar that had been sealed with thick waxed paper and string. With a quick flourish, she tossed the trio into the air and began to juggle them.

"Of these three bottles, one is a poison of the mind, soul, and body."

The flourish stopped as she lobbed one of the bottles at Xiao Shan to catch.

"Drink one and I shall drink the others. If you believe that one contains the poison, merely throw it back at me and I will toss you another."

"You're right about that," Sima replied to Yifang. "I've been out west for so long that I got sand stuck in my head."

Stepping out of the shrine, Sima gave his arms a quick stretch. "We should probably take a few. Rest up and get ready to leave. Ask me any questions if you got 'em."

"And Blue," he looked back at Xiaying. The expression on his face was a strange one. Perhaps it was sympathy or perhaps it was the remembrance of an old memory. More so than a rugged master, he seemed more like a sorrowful man as he shared some words. "It might be a little presumptuous of me to say, but walk with your head high. Doesn't matter if you have to fake it. The world's a rough place."

Looking back at the wilds, he took a place sitting with his back against a tree.

An Escort Warrior? @Zeroth@Cu Chulainn?

"Euuergh..?" A drunkard at a table seemed to raise his head. As if triggered by the words that came from Yi Hyun-Woo, he tossed a wooden placard at the young man. Though, his drunken state was very obvious considering that he almost beaned "Jin" in the skull.

Although it seemed like he was starting a fight, the drunkard seemed to be a little too faded for a bar fight. Instead, what was important was the information on the placard he threw.

It signified the acceptance of an escort mission. As written on its face, it was a job to escort a merchant caravan carrying supplies to various sects within Henan. Though it didn't explicitly say Mountain Ravine Fist on its face, those words awakening a barely conscious man were effectively confirmation that the school was one of the destinations.

Considering how the leaving date was early next morning, it seemed that the drunkard wouldn't be able to make it to depart in time.

The Hunt for the Madwoman @Restalaan

"How did she look?!" The bald roughneck seemed to be annoyed. What did it matter how she looked? Still, he swallowed his emotions to respond. He also swallowed his pride as the large Xiao Shan effortlessly picked him up to place him back on his feet. How emasculating. He briefly closed his eyes to remember, but all he could barely recall was her damn eyes. "She had... large red eyes? A red face too. She didn't really loo-" He had opened his eyes and realized that Xiao Shan had already been moving towards where he had fled.

"Ah fuck, wait up."

It was certainly a strange sight. Whatever fight Xiao Shan had prepared herself for had been replaced by an indescribable scene. The first was a group of men that had been bruised and battered. They stood in the middle of a clearing with their legs bent, their arms held up, and bodies bereft of clothing save for something to cover their bits. The second group of four had been conscripted in some strange ritual.

And there she was. With an outfit of strange baubles and designs, bright-red makeup solely around her eyes, and a drunkard's flush, the Madwoman seemed to be riding a makeshift palanquin of branches and clothing. She (and by extension her conscripts) had been circling the other group for quite some time judging by the torn up grass circle surrounding them. Upon seeing Xiao Shan, the Madwoman clapped twice. The conscripts seem to slowly lower the palanquin on the ground as they collapsed from exhaustion.

"I don't remember a woman among your ranks." She said to nobody in particular, her voice aloof and strange as though she was not speaking in her native tongue. "How urbane."

She paused as she sized up the mask wearing giant.

"Well?"

"That'd be great," Sima thanked Yifang, "I have a rough map there, but I can't read maps for the life of me."

He paused for a brief moment as he rubbed the back of his neck. While Sima lacked an internal compass, he wasn't daft. Something about what Yifang said didn't sit right with him. Like it was a surprise to both of them that someone was there. He gave Yifang a quick palm and fist salute as he walked past her. After all, it wouldn't be uncommon for a criminal to try to hide in a dilapidated shrine.

He entered the shrine and came face to face with the girl inside.

...

...

She didn't ring any bells.

Sure, she had a few distinctive things about her. Strange eyes. Dishevelled clothes. He would have immediately been reminded of a wanted poster if she was described on one. He did keep track of them, after all. Yet, none came to his mind. Whoever the girl was, Sima had no idea who.

Rubbing the back of his neck once more, he lowered himself to the same height as the girl. A smile uncharacteristic of his rugged face formed.

"You must have had a rough time, haven't you?"

The Little Scholar That Could @Zeroth
The scholar sighed. Well, it was unfortunate but realistic. A warrior with shining blade coming to escort her across the country for essentially free was wishful thinking indeed. Well, at least the only person who came to help her was nice about it. The little scholar gave the man a smile.

"Then I shall take you up on your offer. But hmm..." The little scholar seemed to be lost in thought already as the tears in her eyes seemed to vanish. "Xincai does lack offices of governance, so your only hope here would be an information broker. While that information would likely be common if the sect is renowned, it would still cost a decent amount. Well, in that case, you could check with one of the beggar sect members--those with knotted rope-belts--or one of the merchant informants. Alternatively, you could ask around random people, but their willingness to help and quality of information would be a bit dubious..." The scholar paused. "That is to say, I don't know where they are either. They'd likely be west of the province if they are an orthodox clan and east if they're unorthodox. That's the extent of my knowledge without current access to my father's library."

Well, the scholar did turn out to be a touch long-winded when she wasn't on the verge of tears. With Hyun-Woo carrying some of the scrolls, the two left towards an inn. Preferably, one that kept rabble away. Golden River seemed like it wouldn't have too many roughnecks inside...

The Hunt for the Madwoman @Restalaan

"G-gwaa!" The bald man yelped. He certainly wasn't expecting help from a demon. He wasn't expecting a demon at all! Though, he did realize in some time that it was just someone in a mask rather than some sort of demonic entity. Even so, he was already at the point where he would have made a deal with an otherworldly entity to get out of his current predicament. To him, it didn't quite matter who he was asking. As long as it wasn't her.

"Well-" the bald man began to recall his story. "Me and the lads 'ere just going our own way between jobs, y'know? Then all of a sudden, this insane freak pops out of a tree and starts tossing around poison. I slipped away before she got me, but my boys..." The bald man clenched his fists. "She's probably torturing them as we speak!"
Am I still able to make a sheet? I had a big hiccup but I am back.
