Flowers Of Hope

1st Chapter: Days In The Crucible

Fighting.

That was the only thing Yuno and Rosemary did ever since they awoke in this square, metal chamber. The room they were in had adequate space and several wood boxes for the Dolls to lean on, sit on or lie down on although the last one was not recommended. The metal of the walls and the floor were old, dirty and a bit rusty. Time had worn down this place and whoever's running it did not bother to maintain it. A single lightbulb provided a dim illumination for the decrepit room.

A single automated door was the only exit out of the room. At regular intervals, the door would open and Yuno and Rosemary would be forced to head outside lest their room start shrinking and crush them.

Out the door was a larger room and far more lit-up with larger lights on the ceiling. The walls were made of hard, cold steel and the floor was made of tough stone roughened by all the battles waged here. This was where Yuno and Rosemary would battle all sorts of undead that emerged from huge doors from whence they poured out from. This arena saw many fights that left corpses all over it yet somehow, they were all cleaned up once the next round arrived.

This time, however, the door had not opened for quite some time. Neither Yuno nor Rosemary knew what was happening, but they could use this moment to know each other. Despite fighting together for a long time, they did not exactly had a chance to properly introduce themselves to each other.

"Of course, Sir Jarde. I've got you. Though I would guess we might simply proceed on foot from here in the first place. We haven't much further we can ride."
Gerard Segremors

"Err, that's true." Jarde sheepishly replied at the short-haired, amber-eyed knight. "Still, you have my thanks for the offer, Sir Segment-- Segregate-- Segremors! Yeah, that's it! Sir Segremeors. You have my thanks, Sir Segremors!"

"First time?"
Gerard Segremors

The young knight smiled and closed his eyes, letting out a sigh. "Was it really that obvious?"

"First kill, eh? It was well done, Sir Jarde. One less highwayman raping and pillaging his way across the land. You've probably saved the lives of a good few travelers. And the maidenhoods of a village girl or two."
Renar Hagen

Jarde was clapped in the shoulder by another knight, offering consolation. This one was looked more middle-aged, with black hair and blue eyes.

The young knight already knew he and the Iron Rose Knights slaughtered in the name of justice, and Jarde trusted Fanilly to keep it that way. With a smirk, it was time for humor once more. Albeit, a darker one this time. "Well Sir Hagen, I prefer to think these bandits are just innocent, desperate people driven to crime by circumstances beyond their control. It makes killing them more interesting." He flashed a grin before looking at the corpses. "They probably had a family. Probably had friends. Probably played around in grassy meadows. Probably admired the Iron Rose Knight, even. I wonder what they thought once they saw they were fighting us, their childhood heroes."

"I jest, I jest." He told both Renar and Gerard, stopping the joke before it got too far. "Seriously though, Sirs, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me." In truth, he was not but he preferred to discuss his feelings with someone as fresh as him rather than with grizzled veterans.
Luminous Citadel

The Feathered One took you to your destination, the Luminous Citadel. The fortress was huge, containing three great structures built upon the capital's walls to withstand sieges. Despite it being the dead of night, the citadel shone with lights and guards. Ever vigilant, the Luminous Citadel would not be caught with their guard down. To break it, one would need to overcome it by force.

Past the great iron doors of the central structure, the Beastking led you through pragmatically-designed halls and through wide, defensible corridors. The two of you soon reach the end of a seemingly unremarkable corridor save for the double doors upon it. Your escort then opened the doors. "Lord Athos? Miss Thenri is here." She said.

"Ah? Ah, good, good." You entered a simple, moderately-sized room. A couple of windows on the side, a warm fireplace burning at the fore with two high-class, velvet chairs facing it and a low, glass table in between the two pieces of furniture. Athos sat on one of the chairs, a grim look on his face but softening upon seeing you arrive. "I thank you, Miss Parzon."

"I am proud to serve, Lord Athos." The Feathered One bowed before leaving.

"Take a seat, Miss Thenri. You have been through a lot." Athos beckoned you to sit at the other chair. "I thank you for coming, even if you were still recovering." A deep sigh then left the Court Mage. "I imagine you have many questions you want to ask. You will not think that I hold the answers to them, but I do. Especially ones about Varjan."

"Tell me, girl. How was Varjan doing? What is he up to?" Athos asked, tiredly from the tone of his voice.

"It's not easy when your own home is struggling with controversy and lies. Rest assured, they will eventually get what's coming to them. It's only... inevitable."
Titanica

"Well, you better hope that's not the case." Haley sternly replied to the kaiju. "Because if they get what's coming to them, it's us who's going to pay the price."

“Hey, since Haley’s hometown is rather friendly with monsters, maybe he wasn’t too untrustworthy? I mean, I’m not sure what information he wanted about the guild, but perhaps he could make a decent ally? Although I saw that his presence made you uncomfortable…”
Vară Riemsianne

"Oh, well I was uncomfortable, but not in a bad way." Haley waved a wing. "It was just weird to see an Ortusian this far away from Ortus. He's probably here as a spy since there's an Order city near here and Varjo is just below us."

“I…don’t think that majority of humans are bad. So far the only bad nation I’ve come across is Varjo. I think Bart was just upset, I don’t think he has any ill will towards us, his uncouth nature aside. And Neil has been most helpful-"
Vară Riemsianne

Haley noticed Vară's sudden halt in her words and her blush. Shifting beside the Flame Demon, Haley began. "What was that about Neil again, Vară?" The Siren teased with a smirk. "What about Neil that's got you flushed?"

~@Lmpkio (MOR), @Stern Algorithm~

"And that's everything that lead up to this moment."
Morgan

The Guard Captain sighed. "I know of him. No one really cares about him and he's harmless and pays his rent and taxes so, you know." Looking at Neil, he asked. "But is the moth's story true, boy?"

Neil nodded. His face still red, but he was given some basic rags to protect his dignity. "Y-Yes, sir."

"Very well. I'll let you all go for now. But next time this happens, I'm gonna have to demand compensation for disturbing the public peace." The Head Captain declared. "However, I'm not gonna hand you any freebies for this. You're gonna have to buy new clothes with your own coin. Now then, I believe our business here is over."

After Neil purchased new and similar to the original clothing, the four guild members went back home. Neil was quiet and downtrodden on the way and it was not hard to see why.

On the intersection leading to the guild, Neil and his group had coincidentally met up with Haley and her group. Quite a surprise to be sure but Haley was the first to speak. "Oh, Neil! Funny, we were just talking about you." She said. "Also, hi Morgan and Sylvia and Vivian!"

"Huh?! What?" Neil was taken by surprise. "Why are you guys talking about me?"

Haley nudged Vară, still with the smirk. "Go ahead, Vară. Tell him."

~@BKburke~

I suppose I could help with the wall. Do you have any schematics written out or anything or do you need me to do that? Also, will there be a certain material you want implemented into the wall?"
John Clark

"Oh, I'll leave the details to you." Bart replied. "Just make sure we have a nice, big backyard alright?"

I'll see to it that things get done, might take another job or two on the board tomorrow. I'll see how things go. I just have one question though. I dont know where my room is. I have no idea about the layout of this place."
John Clark

"Oh, no problem. I'll give you a brief tour."

Bart lead you across the guild headquarters. The main hall had a stairwell at its end that led to the second floor. Left of the main hall was the guild's lounge and library and above that was the recently-built bathroom. On the right was the guild's kitchen and dining area. Behind the building was the forge, which you knew already.

The main hall had nothing above it, the second floor consisted of a series of rooms built on top of the dining hall and the lounge. These were the guild members' quarters. "Back then, these were full since there were so many of us but times change so I believe you can take a room up there."

(You can see the guild layout specifics at the Characters Tab)

Yang and Ozzy's trip back to the guild was, fortunately, uneventful. The sun had set and the moon had risen by the time they got back.

The hole on the guild's entrance was still there and upon entering into the main hall, they saw Bart with John. "Oh hey, Yang. Ozzy." The guild master greeted them with a smile, which then disappeared. "What did you guys do today?" He asked, nay, questioned.

Bart glared at the two guild members, his friendly tone with John disappearing.
@Raineh Daze

How many hours you got on Mordhau, my friend? Also, have you fought Seymour?

Jarde evaded and blocked the three bandits with ease, yet he could not make a counterattack without opening himself up. Still, his mind focused and waited for a chance. But he could not be on the defensive forever, Jarde was going to risk an attack and hope for the best.

But then, a flash of white appeared behind the three bandits. Before any combatant could react, a blade swung and two bandits were sliced to pieces. Jarde was stunned at the display of power and brutality, only coming back when the third bandit was shoved onto him. He quickly dispatched the bandit by striking the bandit's rib with his sickle and finishing him off with a strike in the neck. A more merciful end than the other two.

The battle promptly ended with the Iron Rose Knights victorious. An expected outcome. Jarde faced his savior, Tyaethe Radistirin. "Uhh, thanks. For the help." He muttered as his breath slowed to normal. The Paladin was famous for her longevity in the knightly order and infamous for her personality. Jarde did not truly know Tyaethe yet so he reserved any judgment. Still, he was in no mood to deal with whatever she was going to throw at him and so ceased the interaction unless she had more to say.

The young knight fell sitting on the forest floor. He had been trained for this. Rigorous, even. But to experience the real, actual battle had left Jarde shocked. Not only was it his first battle, it was also his first time to kill as well. Jarde gazed upon the messy remains of the bandits Tyaethe had killed. He was going to be doing more of this, wasn't he? He supposed so. He should not be surprised, he was told of this during training.

Warriors like the Iron Rose Knights slew people. But they do it to protect the innocent. That much was obvious. What if it was no longer obvious? Jarde rued the day, but he trusted the Captain. She would keep the order on its toes.

After gathering his bearings and once the interrogation was done, Jarde rose to his feet and approached the group. "So... anyone wanna give this fair gentleman a ride?"
Let me know if how I'm viewing the battle is wrong.
~ The Forest ~

Before the scouting party could be sent out, the party had encountered the wreck of a cart beside a large tree with an old man and a horse laying nearby. The Captain immediately dismounted to attend to the man, checking if he was alive. He was, but then he warned that he was but bait for an ambush.

And ambush there was. Three bolts from crossbows were shot at Fanilly but they fortunately missed, the Captain being nimble enough to get out of the way. But that was not the end of it though for a brigand in leather armor emerged from the wreck to continue the assault. Jarde's heart skipped a bit. "Captain! Watch ou--" He was cut off when his horse was hit.

While the bolts meant for the Captain missed their mark, the bolt shot at Jarde was true. At least it would have been if it were not for the strange essence he has on his necklace. The bolt, conspicuously, veered off from Jarde to his horse, hitting the equine right in the eye and quite deeply too. The animal neighed and rose in pain, throwing off Jarde, before falling into the forest floor, dead. The battle had begun and Jarde knew he had to get up as soon as possible.

He recovered as fast as possible and readied his eastern sickle weapons. The bandit band came charging from the thick forestry and the Iron Rose Knights met them. Jarde was about to engage a bandit axeman when an Iron Rose knight in ebony-colored armor attacked first, his sword striking the bandit through his wood shield and into his head.

"For Reon! For the Order!"
Fleuri Jodeau

Jarde was taken aback. A little disappointed at the denial but he shrugged it off and looked for another target. He saw the blue-haired Narcissa fight and kill a couple of bandits before engaging a third one. Jarde moved in to assist only for the red-haired Forina to get there first and kill the bandit and relieve Narcissa. He shrugged in annoyance. His blood was pumping yet here he was, mostly ignored. Jarde supposed he could be in worse situations.

The battle raged. Well, 'battle' implied two large parties fighting each other evenly. So far, the bandits have lost a considerable number of theirs while the Iron Rose Knights have only lost one horse, Jarde's specifically. The young knight joined the formation of knights around Fanilly, who had just murdered a bandit attacking her, and awaited orders. Seeing the dead brigand, Jarde realized he had not taken a life before. He wondered if he was really able to. Or will he just take them unwittingly in the heat of battle?

"Do not let them escape!"
Fanilly Danbalion

Jarde's train of thought was broken when the Captain issued an order. Now was not the time to ponder, it was the time to fight. He saw why Fanilly made the order, some of the attacking bandits were losing heart and may retreat soon and possibly tell their Bandit King that the Iron Rose Knights were coming. He devised a course of action and with his speed, he could pull it off. Being a speedy fighter, he had no place at the front where armored, shielded warriors held the line.

"You got it, Captain!"

Jarde raced around the battle lines and placed himself behind the bandit mob. With their crossbowmen suppressed and an Iron Rose knight causing havoc amongst their ranks, Jarde felt confident that he won't be targeted with bolts anytime soon. The disheartened bandits in the rear of the fighting turned around to face him and realized that despite wearing leather armor like them, Jarde was not one of them. One of the Knights, in fact.

The young knight was silent. Admittedly, he was scared and afraid and anxious. It was his first real fight and the one he picked could have him surrounded. So his mind was focused on the fight, eyeing the bandits for any sudden movement. At these moments, there were no jokes or humor for Jarde.

A bandit lunged at him with an overhead swing. Jarde saw that the attack was slow. His master's swings were much faster than that. The young knight caught the sword with both his sickles before moving one of them for the counterattack. Time seemed to slow for Jarde as he wondered where his sickle would hit. The bandit's vital parts were painfully open to attack and Jarde was trained to hit them but he could very well just cripple the man to be interrogated. On the other hand, his fellow knights were massacring the brigands with little problem.

The debate was brief. Time moved slow but it moved nonetheless and Jarde made his decision. The sickle's blade plunged into the bandit's neck. With a choking noise, the bandit died and fell to the ground. It was no time to ponder as his attention went to the living bandits. One of the further bandits took his chances and began to run away from the battle.

Distance was no problem for Jarde. At least, not great distances. The young knight released his right sickle, gripping the chain it was attached to it instead. With that, he swung his now long-ranged sickle and struck the bandit on the shoulder. With the sickle plunged, Jarde pulled the bandit into the ground before tugging the chain to release the sickle. By swinging it, Jarde wrapped the chain around his arm and returned the sickle to him. The bandit was left writhing on the forest floor.

Jarde turned back to the bandits, seeing desperation in their eyes. He realized that was not a good thing as that emboldened the bandits to attack him in an effort to break through. Some three brigands jumped on him and while they were slow and untrained, it'd take time for Jarde to deal with them without assistance.
