Dubious Wares And Questionable Methods
~@13org (FYR), @Rezod92~

The trip to Ambran was without any further incident, only small talk between George, Freyr and Kira.

Upon getting to the neutral town, however, what greeted the trio first was a troubling sight. Plastered on a wall was a wanted poster of George Costava himself, awarding a hefty three hundred gold pieces for his capture. His crimes included possession and sale of illegal substances as well as forgery of information. "Oh, that is not good."

George immediately turned to Freyr and Kira. "Look, it is true. I do sell drugs. But they are harmless and many people like it. Is demon-energy free too, no risk of corruption. Not to mention high quality." He attempted to justify himself. "Besides, I need profits to fund our operation against Ravager's Rest. Such ventures not cheap, you know?"

"Listen, I pay you triple the bounty and we can all walk away from this happy. Fair deal, yes?"

"First, a brief history on this Varjo and what they planned to do here. I'm a foreigner and most of what I heard are hearsays, ones that I thought were an exaggeration at first. Now it seems those were understating it. The other one...well, how and why did you leave them?"
Yang Bethlehem

"It's Varjo. What you see is what you get." Nero chuckled before taking a swig. "I heard that Varjo was long ago a not-so-bad kingdom. A magical kingdom but I forgot it's name. Once the change happened, Varjo's royalty concentrated all the kingdom's wealth to the capital and left all its lands for dead, turning them into little more than bandit dens. The Order was not happy with this but while Varjo's armies may be brutal and ruthless, they're also loyal and effective. And that's all the Order needed to keep them around."

"Then the monsters transformed into... what they are now." Nero took another drink. "The Order's usual tactics was ineffective against them. I mean, who's going to murder an innocent Holstaur and not be haunted by it? And that's where Varjo came in. I'm sure you already know but the warriors of Varjo aren't exactly right in the head. They're more than happy to slaughter the innocent, monster or otherwise." He then sighed. "The depravity of their brutality also scares away monsters so that's a neat bonus."

"Varjo gained prominence for being able to ward off monsters better than the other Order nations. And by 'ward off monsters' I mean horribly oppressive to your subjects and if they complain, execute them and build effigies out of their corpses." Nero poured more wine. "Their rotten methods haven't taken hold in many of the Order kingdoms, but it's spreading. It's spreading."

"As for me, well first you'll need context." Nero sipped. "Several years ago, the Order needed humanity to be united against monsterkind. There were a lot of independent human kingdoms that squabbled with one another and the Order needed to fold them in. In a miracle, the Chief God blessed several individuals into Great Heroes who would lead armies in a crusade and unite mankind."

"Long story short, it didn't work out. Half of those armies betrayed the other half and pledged their service to Varjo, plunging the Order kingdoms into a brutal civil war for several years. It was large, but still localized so don't be surprised you haven't heard of it." Nero paused for a moment. "I was part of those rebel armies, the Black Wolves in particular. But my own Great Hero, my brothers whom I fought and bled with, betrayed me because they considered me and several others loyalists. Not that they weren't right."

"I managed to escape the trap and drifted all the way to Zipangu." Nero sniffed, memories coming back to him. "By the time I came back, the rebels have won. The Order higher-ups were convinced by Varjo and branded us the actual traitors. So, here I am. Everything I fought for, everything I sacrificed, all that blood and mud and tears. It was all for nothing."

"Sir Nero, I have a request, if it's not too much for you. Should the worst come to pass and Varjo comes here. Would you take up arms to protect those that can't?"
Yang Bethlehem

Nero laughed. "Varjo's not gonna come here. Don't you know the history of this place? This was once Varjan territory, but then it's garrison got bored of looking over fishermen and decided to pillage this place and slaughtered most of the folks before leaving. The monsters of the sea came not long after to help this port recover."

"But yeah. I used to think that fighting was pointless, much like what happened in the crusade. But you've shown me, that inside I'm really a fighter. A warrior and I will fight these Varjan bastards until my last breath." Nero had made his position clear.

"Also, I'm sorry for breaking your sword. Do you need help fixing that? We have a cyclops and blacksmith in our guild."
Yang Bethlehem

"Nah. It's been high time for me to get one. Besides, as a single man, I don't think I want to owe a Cyclops anything."

"Sorry mame! But he has a girlfriend!"
Ozzy Skyway

"Wait, what girlfriend?! Whoa!" Neil had to ask before being lifted off by Ozzy, but the Zombie held tight to the boy. Ada had slashed at the Zombie's arms, not enough to cut it off, but it did release her grip on Neil.

Ditzy carried the Altissima sisters into the church which Ada had opened, getting there first with her speed. Once Ozzy and Neil were inside, the Liliraune closed the doors with their vines. The horde descended upon the abandoned church, surrounding the building and banging on its doors and walls.

Inside the church were the typical pews and empty candle holders. The pews were ruined but still intact and Neil had a plan. "Guys, help me with these pews. We need to block the main door." With that, the wooden double doors of the church were reinforced by the pile of pews behind it and saving the Altissima sisters from the effort of blocking it.

The moans of the undead were unceasing as the party secured their perimeter. The other smaller entrances were blocked and the windows were too high to be reached by the Zombies. Soon, the party could rest and catch their breaths but they still did not have a way out.

After several minutes, Neil was the one to speak up. "Alright. What do we do now?"

Ada was on the window as the group discussed. She saw a burly-looking Zombie among the horde, and in her hands was a small piece of paper that had clear drawings upon it.
So does this mean I can play someone related to the Iron Roses RP?

I'm tempted to play as a relative of Phoran Cal but maybe I'll just play as a soldier who fought for Cal who fled far, far north when their forces got defeated. Maybe also a devout Mayonite/Reonite and thought the rebellion was the will of the goddesses, only to find out he/she was in the wrong side all along.
There's not really going to be any overlap since we're literally the other side of a country.

I will make it overlap.

Let me see if I can think of a character related to my blondie over at the Iron Roses. Or maybe I should make a character related to Phoran Cal

No promises though, I'm involved in many RPs.

"You're thinking about this in the wrong way. The fact that we don't really fit in here is... irrelevant. We never have and probably never will. No, what's important is why the princess invited us. While I can't be certain, I've got an idea. Despite having everything, her position prevents her from getting out much, so the best way for her to see the world is through the eyes of others and who better to ask than a group as diverse as ours?"
Maritza Verenna

That made sense. The Princess may be a powerful figure in all the land but that meant she was also burdened with responsibility. She may want to see the kingdom beyond the capital but her duties perhaps shackled her, needing others to tell her what was going on in Thaln.

Still, Jarde did not know what to tell the Princess. Others could tell the tale of the Bandit King's downfall better than he did and he seriously doubted that the Princess wanted to know about his hometown, an average village in Thaln that Jarde doubted anyone in this castle knew existed.

"Of course, I could be wrong. Still, go introduce yourself. Just say something formal sounding and bow. If you really have no idea what to do, follow behind one of the senior knights and follow their lead. Sir Indrau wouldn't be a bad choice."
Maritza Verenna

There was no avoiding it, wasn't there? It felt like Jarde's fellow knights want him to be in the center stage, seeing him as equal to them despite the cold, hard truth of it. He supposed he should just suck it up and act like he belonged there. At least if things go south because of him, he would show the others that he tried.

"On less pleasant note, I'd recommend not wandering off alone. We aren't exactly popular with all of the nobility. I'd like to think I'm just being paranoid, but the young noble who was harassing the Captain earlier didn't ease my concerns. While I'm not worried about your ability to fend off some pompous jackass and their flunkies; what does worry me is the potential problems that could arise as a result of an altercation without any witnesses."
Maritza Verenna
\

That made Jarde raise an eyebrow. "You think we might get attacked?" Maritza's scenario was unbelievable, at least to Jarde. Thinking about it, he supposed it could be possible. Some noble might attempt to assassinate an Iron Rose only to get killed. But if there were no witnesses, then it will look like it was the Iron Rose that did the assassination. "Well if that happens, I'll just let myself get killed to save the Iron Rose's face. Good plan, right? Hahaha!" The joke was morbid but Jarde could not resist.

He noticed the approach of a familiar noble girl. It was one of the three nobles he was talking with Sir Gerard earlier, Violette. She was heading straight at him and Jarde quickly wondered why. Did she have some more... remarkable words she wanted to say to him? He doubted it. There was only one way to find out. "Oh hey, miss. Uhh, do you need something?"
@Genon

I actually thought about this, robots just customizing themselves to suit the situation. But the players having a bajillion equipment sets would just be taxing to me so I restricted it to a set personal equipment that the character takes during all missions. It also wouldn't be fair to the current players so I recommend just going Hybrid if you want to be versatile.

The in-universe explanation would be that technology for customizable robots is extremely limited for now.
@Genon

Yes. You may play as a Robot Boy.

You're actually supposed to do that.

Or at least attempt that.

Freyr knocked out one of the Goblins with his dagger and the remaining one was tossed out by an unexpected helper, A Beelzebub by the name of Kira Gigas.

The last Goblin noticed that her fellows have been dealt with and now she was alone with three people, two of whom are more than capable of taking her down. "Uh, oh." A moment passed before the last Goblin then leapt from the wagon, knowing that the battle was already lost. George's carriage was safe. At least, for the moment.

"You have dealt with them, Mister Freyr?" George took a glance behind and spotted Kira. "Oh? Who might you be? Well, thanks for lending help too. Sorry Mister Freyr, looks I will need to split reward. Unless she is part of guild too. Are you part of Freyr's guild?"

"Heh, one more time."

Nero went on the defensive when you charged. He blocked your punch with the broad of his blade, shattering the weapon. He narrowly evaded your knee strike but he failed to see your ultimate attack.

The flying kick launched Nero for several feet, his breath knocked out of him. However, in mere moments he was back to his feet again. "Nice shot. I guess that's the final round. I don't think I can take another one of that." He clutched his head in pain with one hand and he was a bit wobbly, but he had survived your attack. "Why don't we have an applause to our monk here?"

At Nero's request, the crowd gave a round of claps for your victory. The duel has concluded.

------

Once the crowd had dispersed and gone, Nero invited you into his farm to have a drink. With a table and two barrel chairs, Nero poured you a cup of fine wine. "So what would you like to talk about? You know, for the reward." He said as he poured himself one. "You can say I have... a front row seat to, pretty much everything."

"But the two of you don't look that similar?"
Ditzy Stoneclub

”Make you look like Neil? Is the treasure medicine or some kind of youth potion?”
Ozzy Skyway

"I'm being metaphorical, you dunces!" Forde snapped. "I mean look at your friend over here! He looks like he hadn't worked a day in his life!" He said about Neil.

------

As the party worked in searching for the treasure map, Forde approached them looking panicked and worried. "I've got bad news, friends! There's a patrol coming and I'm pretty sure they're not gonna appreciate our work here." He said.

"Well, what're we gonna do?" Neil asked.

Forde thought for a moment before coming up with a crude but effective plan. "Alright, alright, listen here. I'm gonna take my steed and I'm gonna distract the patrol, maybe lead them to somewhere else. Gonna probably have to provoke them to chase me. But I'm a slippery fellow, they're not gonna catch me easily." He then began heading away to carry out his plan. "Meanwhile, you all just continue finding that map. I'm coming for that tomorrow, okay?"

With that, Forde was gone and the party could continue digging and desecrating the burial site. The Altissima sisters made bringing up the coffins easy while the rest checked inside them for any maps. Neil, however, noticed something odd.

"Guys, why are all these women?" Indeed, all the opened caskets contained women. Some in female clothing, some in male clothing while most had clothing too ragged to be recognized anymore. "They also seem well-preserved. Like, they just died yesterday." Some of the bodies had decayed to mere bones but most of the dug up coffins contained bodies that seemed fresh.

Suddenly, the woman Neil was checking shot her eyes open. Her arms launched forward and grabbed hold of Neil. "Ah! Guys!" Neil cried for help as the woman attempted to pull him closer to her.

The unearthed coffins burst open, its occupants emerging. They were all women with varying degrees of paleness. Zombies. It appeared the party had awakened an entire graveyard of them, some were even clawing out off the ground. They were quickly growing in number and the party was getting surrounded.

The Zombies shambled after the party. Neil had broken free of his Zombie and yelled. "Guys! Get to the church! We can hole up there!" Another Zombie had unfortunately pounced on him from behind, already kissing his neck in desperate affection. "Ack!"
