Rags had been so focused on the signs still to be read from this platform that she hadn't even looked over the edge to other platforms yet. When Kryss brought it to her attention that the boys were down somewhere that could be seen, and there was a large bird down there too, Rags first thought was not 'the boys might be in danger', it was 'that bird will be our next meal'. She didn't want the boys to hog all the meat for themselves. They both had to get down there fast.

"I head down now. Kill bird. Will tell boys wait for you." she whispered back, not entirely sure why they were whispering.

Before Kyrss could stop her, she rushed back to the arrow lodged into the ground on their platform, pulled it out, and held it in her teeth as she leapt over the edge and started to descend in her Tarzan-like style, yet even more reckless than before, freefalling entire stories before catching hold of a razor-thin outcrop of rock to slow her fall enough to be able to grab on to the next one, then repeating. Seriously, how tough where her fingers?

When she was about 3/4 of the way down, and the boys had probably heard or seen her at this point, she took the arrow from her teeth to her hand, and pushed off the cliff face, plummeting straight down towards the bird. She wasn't falling from a high as Kai fell, but his fall had been an accident. Rags had voluntarily leapt from such a height, arrow in hand, planning to stab the bird from above.

Maeda Hitomi

"Hey, wait!" Hitomi called out to Hibiki, but she was already gone. Her words were bringing about feelings of concern and worry in Hitomi, though nit full distrust, not yet. She had heard about a substantial portion of the 1B class acting like some kind of clique, but surely this Komei collective, and idea full pf promise and possibilities, wasn't just a scheme for that clique to take power...Hitomi didn't know how well she'd cope to getting used like that. She'd rarely been angry before, always trying to see things on the bright side, and letting metal give vent to her emotions in private. This was because, when she was a child, if she ever got angry...

Hitomi reached up to touch her rock-hard sheep horns, and sighed. It was no use regretting things you did when you were four years old, even if that thing was putting a bully in the hospital. That was probably when she vowed to be nice and help people; when she was sitting in that waiting room, the fellow four year old's parents, faces red from crying, looking at you as if you were the cruelest, nastiest monster to ever grace the planet.

Hitomi's phone went off. It was time for the next event, which was to take place in the 1B classroom; Karaoke. Hitomi had never heard Tomoe sing, but she imagined Tomoe would be a good singer. Hitomi was a rather poor singer. She would know, as she'd dreamed of singing metal a few years ago, and tried recording herself. The results...weren't good.

As Hitomi was already in the school building when she received the text, she actually reached the 1B classroom first, and entered. Her ears drooped when she saw, standing in the middle of the room, their opponents. They had shoulder length silver hair, bright blue eyes, and were wearing a green and white dress, a hairband, and a very sweet smile. Hitomi only knew of Seiko by reputation, as the 'Karaoke Queen' or 'The Idol of Class 1-B', or during exercises, as 'Wireframe'.

He was also a crossdresser.

Mako raised her eyebrow at the cold reception from Roy, but before she had time to adress this, Dulga started to talk. Mako saved this information for later. Roy was upset with her about something? Was it the Villain Psychology class incident? Was it that she was a villain? She'd have to find out. In the meantime, she listened to Dulga, and grew increasingly concerned at her speech. When Dulga left, but while she was still in earshot, Mako cleared her throat and looked around. "Alternatively, you could all keep yourselves safe, let the professionals do the fighting, and finish your education. By then you'd actually be qualified to take villains on and wouldn't be recklessly and needlessly risking your lives. Also, proper Superheroes don't kill people. Ever. No exceptions. But that's your choice, if you'd rather become a vigilante, or a police officer."

She sighed, watching Donny try to leave. "Thank you, Reina. Are you able to use your quirk to help? I can understand if you can't but it would make things easier."

"Oh," Eilidh replied sheepishly, her ears drooping down, "I knew that, of course..."

They perked back up a little when her second question was addressed. Cubbage's reply was vague, and smacked of the human notion of family legacy. In Centaur tradition, your parents could have been the most fearsome Centaurs to ever live, but you were still judged solely on your own merits. There were no expectations and no favoritism. It was highly taboo for a Centaur to stay in the same tribe as their parents once the hit maturity as this was seen as a sign that you weren't yet mature. Eilidh knew fully grown Centaurs who were still called 'children' simply for staying in contact with their parents via letters.

Still, they had their reward, and Eilidh wasn't leaping at the chance to stay involved in Samuel's affairs. She chuckled at Neil's question and gestured that he could take the bag. "It's more than I usually get, I'll say that much. And...we took the trip out here. It would be a shame to head back already, though no drinking. Centaurs get...hot-headed when they drink..." Eilidh stopped, blushed and looked away. "If Ditzy is visiting a Goblin tribe, I shall accompany him."

After freeing Lily, Rebecca looked down the hole, ready to draw her sword, though she simply saw a twisted tangle of plants. She turned back to Lily. "Are you okay?" She asked the young Mothgirl, before looking around.

She carried out an investigation of the state of the church before returning to the entrance to talk to the bride to be. However, she had disappeared entirely. Rebecca tutted, and turned back into the church. Rebecca's patience of a saint was being tested to its very limits, and this was clear to Lily from a quick look at the Priestess' face.

"The old lady is nowhere to be found!" she exclaimed.

Kasuke Mina

Kasuke was quiet. Her attempts to run Harukaze's name in the dirt were thrown back at her and she'd start to feel like a bit of a bitch if she kept at it. She wondered if she was already being too much of a bitch, but then thought about the image of Harukaze talking to Jett and all those doubts vanished. Still, she didn't want to push too much and annoy Asuka. There were few people Mina even thought of as friends. Donny was one, Jett's sister, Tatara-san, and that was it. So, Mina dropped this conversation, but didn't replace it with anything until Kenichi showed up. She was actually glad of him. Annoying as she found him, he was an ice-breaker, and struck her as the kind of person who didn't need much effort from you to have a conversation with.

Mina looked over to Asuka, smiled and shrugged. She didn't particularly mind this excursion. She didn't fully trust herself around Harukaze or Jett right now, having absolutely no idea they were talking right now or she would no longer be standing beside Asuka. She had sprinted right to them. But then what? This is why she didn't want to go back and find them. She was too emotional. She likely say something that'd piss them off, and Jett had been merely annoyed with her today, and that hurt enough. If she actually angered him...

She was snapped out of this by Kenichi addressing her, and addressing her as chan. Mina tutted in an irritated fashion and very quickly regretted her thought that talking to this boy would be easy. It would take a lot of restraint not to give him the icy shoulder and leave, but that might upset Asuka. 'We, uh, haven't spoken much, huh?' Yeah, no kidding. We don't have a second less conversation than I could take from you, you assuming, loud, obnoxious, rude, self-centered...

"Yes, I do karate," she answered politely, with a smile. Asuka would recognise this as a more informal, chill variant of the 'Lady-mode' that Mina had recently been using. "It's the only striking martial art I'm a black belt in, though I'm more of a grappler overall. What about you? Do you know any martial arts?"

Maeda Hitomi

As soon as the pictures were taken, Hitomi cursed and struggled to free herself of cats. She was absolutely covered in them. Her arms and legs had several scratches, some were bleeding. Her hair, usually well combed, was a tangled mess that was actually starting to resemble a sheep's coat, and was housing most of the cats. And they didn't want to come out. And even the ones that didn't mind were heavily tangled. Several students from the pro-Collective side had to come and help her out. By the time she was free of cats, the counting was finished, and Hitomi was declared the winner by a massive lead. She was grinning as she returned to Yui and Asahi even though she looked like she'd just gotten out of bed in a warzone.

"I told you I'd win! And I'm not sure if I should enter again and rob you two of any glory. Yui-chan, can you sing?"

As she was talking, she looked around for Kamui Hibiki and saw her storming off without even watching the rest of it. Hitomi frowned, and turned back to her friends. "Sorry, I need to go somewhere for a minute. I'll try my best to be back before the Karaoke starts."

Hitomi then slipped through the crowd and caught up to Hibiki by the time she managed to get back into the school. In the empty corridors, the Sheep Girl approached her, brows furrowed. "Are you not going to watch the rest?" she asked.

Mako nodded to signify she agreed with Acion. There would be mental scars from this for all the children involved. Though it wasn't officially her duty, she felt as responsibility as a teacher that she'd never fully felt before, to make sure her students were all okay. She was even resisting the urge to deliberately get under the skin of the Sky Knight who clearly didn't fully trust her, something she'd otherwise had leapt at, because that would be a waste of time and she had more pressing concerns. She turned to Mr. Sparks.

"I need to visit my students, and you have some interest in Yashiro-san, so let's see to our own affairs and then possibly meet back in the lobby when we're finished. We haven't finished catching up, mister."

Even the Sky Knights wouldn't have missed the faint hints of flirting in Mako's voice as she addressed Mr. Sparks. Mako then made her way to the hospital room which housed Kaida. She quickened her pace when she saw Donny Yang's form...'melting' was the best way she could describe it. She sped up into a controlled run down the corridor, and when she reached him, turned her hands very cold and began to manually push the seeping slime back into place. Her hands weren't outright freezing him, but were helping to keep the slime firm and Donny in one piece.

"You won't find this very comfortable with your quirk," Mako addressed him sternly, "But it'll help keep you from losing your form. Serves you right for over-exerting yourself when you should be resting!" Mako then looked up to the rest of the room; Kaida, bedridden. Roy, wheelchair bound, and Dulga, who had raced up to here before Mako's car had even stopped. The Villain Psychology teacher but her smile back on and her eyes closed again, though the saccharine gleefulness was gone from her voice, and she actually sounded genuine, tender, and slightly upset and weary. "So besides Donny, how are we all doing?"

While Dulga rushed upstairs, Mako instead headed to the reception, and with a smile and some pleasant light conversation, handed the medical records to the receptionist. With that done, it was time to go check on her students. She wanted to make sure they were alright. Mako headed up the stairs, and headed down the corridor.

Upon reaching the door to enter the stairwell, Mr. Sparks took a minute to collect himself before making his way down the stairs. He made it back to the corridor that everyone was on and turned towards Kaida’s room, Just behind a woman who had walked up the stairs. Instantly he smelt the perfume coming off her as she walked, a hint of lavender and fruit. He remembered that smell, from what if felt like a lifetime ago.

He looked forward to see everyone still in the hallway, now including a black mass standing there. Slightly surprised at the quirk before him, no one seemed to be frightened by it, so it was possible they knew this blob. He moved slightly more quickly to get to Kaida’s room, Softly saying to the woman as he passed by close to her, ”Pardon me, miss.” As he turned to look at her with a polite swave smile. There was a moment of hesitation as he recognized her face, she was hard to forget.

Mako nodded, smiling, and stepped to the side. She was about to reply with some polite courtesy, but she saw that he was staring at her as if he remembered her, so she quickly racked her brain trying to think of where she’d seen him before. He definitely looked familiar. Then it hit her, and her golden eyes opened. As they did, it became obvious that this was the same woman he was thinking of. Her hair was much longer than shoulder length now, and graying at the ends, and her smile was more polite and less foxish, but those eyes were unmistakably Akane Mako’s.

”You!” she gasped, surprised.

He stopped completely in front of her now. His own gold eyes warm with a fond memory as he looked into Akane Mako’s own. His smile turned into a more genuine one. While her hair and smile had changed. Her beauty hadn’t. He took a step back, as if the pure realization of who she was knocked him back. When she gasped, recognizing him his smile, somehow even grew more. ”You!” He copied and added, ”You look even more beautiful than I remember, Miss Mako.”

Far from the young lady with a cool facade but who blushed easily at the slightest flattery, Ms. Mako responded to this with genuine smile. It seems she had improved her composure greatly after all these years. Though, a glint shone in her eyes and a little of the foxiness came back into her smile. If he wanted to play, let us play! ”You flatter me! Though, I must say, the years have been kind to you also.”

The alarms could be heard for whole streets around. It was a quiet day, and there was no other noise to mask the piercing wail. A private depository for jewellery was in chaos, not helped by the senior staff, who were examining a hole in the wall, outlined by melted brick, or by the absence of the guards, who were currently chasing the perpetrator.

A figure in a black hooded jacket was sprinting down a market street not too far away from the alley that led from the hit building. Over her shoulder was a duffel bag filled to the brim with stolen jewelry. The guards, while not so close as to catch her, were staying close enough that she couldn’t lose their line of sight. Despite this, she was smiling. It was during moments like these where she really felt alive. The adrenaline, the danger, the emotional high of a hard job pulled off. Well, not quite yet. If she didn’t shake them soon, she’d hit the more populous areas. Then she might actually be in trouble!

A young man in a suit and tie was walking through the market browsing the wares when he heard alarms going off. He lifted his head with a raised eyebrow. Wondering who would pull a heist in the middle of the day. It was bold, crazy… and well… intriguing. He moved closer to the sound when he saw a hooded figure sprinting towards him, with guards following the figure.

Smiling he moved just enough to get in the perps way, but not enough for them to think he was trying to stop them. He suddenly noticed the feminine figure, and decided to...help. He glanced to his side and touched a metal railing casually, an arch of electricity jumped from his hand so slightly that if you would only see it if you were looking for it. The electricity traveled down the railing to a booth that the girl just past, the open arc suddenly spreading to all the electronics and causing mini explosions that caused everyone nearby to suddenly back up and freak out, blocking the path and sight the guards had.

He would then reach out and grab the girl by the waist, her momentum spinning them around once. But she would notice that his grip was iron tight, but not so that she was hurt. She would also see a glint of a badge on his hip, and gun in under his suit strapped to his left chest.

Seeing these things, and immediately taking him to be a cop, Mako’s smile disappeared, and she tried to break free, but his grip was too tight. Not seeing a great many options, she dropped the duffel back on the pavement and quickly tore off her hooded jacket, throwing it over the duffel bag to cover it. This act revealed that she was a very pretty woman in her late teens or early twenties, with jet-black shoulder length hair and fiery golden eyes. She was wearing a loose navy vest, jeans and white running shoes. She raised her eyebrow as if to say ‘You got a problem with this’?

As she was doing this, the guards were shoving their way through, as soon as she covered the bag he reached out with his foot and snagged it, sliding it behind him and under a covered table. All the while looking back at the beautiful woman in front of him with a swave smile. Despite her defiant look at him. Pulling her closer to him he looked and over her head at the guards who were running towards them. He waved his hand to them, getting their attention. “Over here!” But as the guards came up on them. “The perp ran that way.” He said while jerking his finger over his shoulder. ”Son of a bitch ran into my wife! I’ll have units try to cut him off through that alley.” He said while pulling up his phone from his pocket.

When she saw that this stranger helped her to hide her stolen goods, she knew that he was helping her, and played along. She stopped resisting, and instead wrapped her arms around his waist so that they looked like a real couple. When he called the guards over, there was a split-second of panic in her eyes before her brain caught up and she realised that this was actually a good move. Now, what to pretend to be...the man answered that, too, by calling her his wife. She was hardly dressed to pass for a sweetheart or a lady, though, so she went down the firecracker route. Turning away from her saviour to face the guards with an affronted, pissed off look and shook her fist, keeping her other hand firmly around the stranger’s waist.

”Oi! Catch that punk and lock them up! You hear? That bastard could have injured me!”

The guards nodded as the continue to chase the now phantom thief. He waited a moment, looking over his shoulder his phone to his ear...but said nothing. Once out of site he put down the phone and glanced at the woman. With a mischievous smirk and playfulness in his eyes. ”So, not only does the lady have the looks to knock out a crowd. But she has the smarts as well? Thats a dangerous combo…” While his grip didn’t leave her waist as he stood close to her, she would notice it wasn’t holding her...too tightly anymore.

The woman relaxed, but that didn’t last long as she actually paid attention to the stranger and how they were holding each other. He was very attractive, sure, but there was a ruggish, rouge-ish playful quality about him, and dammit, that was her type! And on top of that, he then complimented her in a very suave manner! The woman blushed, and let go of his waist, stepping back and smiling a rather foxlike smile.

”I’m a dangerous woman. Tell me, how should I address my knight in shining armor?” she tried to answer back but the blush really took away from the cool, sassy vibe she was going for.

He reluctantly let go of her as she took a step back. That smile was so cute. The air of mysteriousness that surrounded her and her playful fox like expresion. She was so intriguing, and gorgeous, and a bad girl! She asked for his name in a roundabout way. He smiled and placed a hand on his chest while he bowed slightly. He didn’t want to lie to her, but at this moment he couldn’t give his real name.”You can call me Luc Sparks. It is a pleasure to meet you m’lady...” He paused to make it clear that he was wondering what to call her as well. It was now she could hear the foreign accent, He took her hand in his and kissed it.

This, she was not mentally prepared for, and blushed an even redder shade, and stammered for a few seconds, before clearing her throat to restore some sense of control and composition to herself. She then smiled up at the handsome stranger. ”The pleasure is all mine. My name’s Mako Akane, but please call me Akane.”

“A beautiful name.” He said as he bent down and picked up her bag of loot, holding as if he were going to give it back but he stopped. “Now about my payment. Partners in crime get 50/50 shares no?” He said with a mischievous grin, but shred of innocence in his eyes as if he was seriously wondering.

The foxish grin returned in full along with her confident aura, as she gestured to the bag. ”I’ll gladly let you take half. More than half, even, if you take the bag off my hands. They’re looking for a suspect of small frame with a black jacket, hood, and a duffel bag. Take that away and we’re both clear. Besides, I steal for the sport, not the money or possessions.”

He cocked his head to the side, surprised at her answer. There was never anyone he met who did it for the sport. He shrugged and dropped the bag next to the trash can near them. “Really?” He said with an honest impressed look on his face. “Well that’s a shame, because I have no need for the money as well. I was going to ask for my payment to be for the chance to take you out to dinner. Tonight.”

Her reaction to this was surprise, and visible conflict showed on her face, and she sighed. She smiled at him, but it seemed sadder this time. ”Oh, sorry for messing up your pickup line, and also sorry for turning down the offer. I...let’s say i’m putting my career first. I do really want to go out to dinner with you. You’re really attractive, charming, and to be frank, my type. But I just can’t. I’m sorry. I...probably didn’t help just now, did I?”

He lowered his head slightly in respect to her wishes. Sighing, “ Nope not really…” he said with a chuckle despite the loss. He placed his hands on his hips and lifted his head, pushing Through it he gave her another smile. “Well if you ever change your mind… check your back pocket.” He said with a wink, as he turned around and wave casually without looking back. “Good luck with your Career. Madame.”

”Yes, you too,” she replied weekly, before picking to the duffel bag and walking away. When she was out of sight, she facepalmed, rested her head against a wall and groaned pathetically. After a while of this self-pity party, she checked her back pocket. On it was a number, and the stranger’s first name, which she read aloud to herself;

”Jean-Luc. Yare yare, it’s a small world,” Ms. Mako mused with a glint in her eye, before the smile dimmed. ”But what are you doing here?”

He nodded with a smile, as she remembered his name. He pointed to the room Kaida was in with a thumb jerk over his shoulder. “I was in town on business, and I saw Ms. Beaumont on the tv attacked. I rushed over here to make sure she was being taken care of properly… I’ve known her since she was a baby. With her keeping her quirk a secret, I knew the doctors wouldn’t know how to take care of her.”

He was about to ask why she was here when he remembered she worked at komei as the secretary. Her sudden change in careers made huge news for a bit. But to be honest he kept an eye out for her ever since that day.

“I’m assuming you’re here for the students as well?”

Mako nodded, as if suddenly remembering the entire reason she was here, and headed for Kaida’s room, talking to Mr. Sparks as she walked. Her whole demeanor had changed, and she was all business for the time being. ”That’s right. Well, officially, I just came to drop off their records but I personally want to make sure they’re ok. So, you saw them on TV? What exactly happened?”

He turned and followed her on her right side. When she asked what happened, he hesitated for a moment looking to the principle and skyknights they were getting closer to. But he felt he could be a little more honest with her.

“They were attacked by the shadow clan. Their goal was killing the dark haired boy and take one of the other girls and Kaida back with them. I don’t know what happened and how they failed in their mission. But I’m glad.”

He looked at her, and added. “They won’t be coming for them after this for a while.”

Mako shook her head. ”This is going to be a PR nightmare. Possibly even U. A. levels. Several of our students have been targeted and attacked. I can’t blame the students if they want to withdraw after this, after getting into real Hero combat. Who the hell attacks children?” She growled through gritted teeth, her fists clenched tight, as they approached the Principle and the superhero group known as the Sky Knights.

They were a little young to have faced Madame Obsidian in her prime, but judging from their accolades, they’d have given her a run for her money. She had nothing but respect for the group. Especially now, after they’d helped save the lives of multiple students. She smiled her trademark saccharine smile with eyes closed as she approached. They’d know who she was; the ‘reformed’ former Supervillain who was the current secretary at Komei Academy.

”Hello, there. I don’t know if the Principle has already said this but thank you for saving those kids’ lives!”

”psychopaths…” he said simply to her question. When they came to the others and she thanked them for saving the students. He looked to Aurelia and nodded once again. “It was a good thing you were there. How is that dark haired boy who lost his arm doing?”

Maeda Hitomi

Hitomi noticed the cats getting off her and flocking to Hibiki, and actually felt herself getting angry. Just because that wasn't against the rules doesn't mean it wasn't cheating! Hitomi started to look around for something she could use, and spotted the can of spray. She'd even the odds, even if it went against her own moral standards! Picking up the can, she read it and discerned its contents. At first, it seemed useless and even counterproductive, but then she realised how she could use it.

Spray can in hand, she started to run towards Hibiki. She looked none too pleased at the Support Class student. When she reached her, she stopped her motion with one leg, and used the momentum to crouch down, and then leap over the other student. She somersaulted in the eair to get herself into the correct position, before landing on Hibiki's blind side; the side holding the toy, which she then sprayed with the repellent. She looked Hibiki in the eyes as she did this, and smirked. Pocketing the spray can so it couldn't be used against her, Hitomi leisurely returned to the center to the area , floofed up, and began attracting cats again.

"Why did I want to turn myself in and begin working at a hero academy? Well, first of all, I didn't turn myself in. I got caught. I mean technically, I surrended, but only because I knew I was going to lose and a least wanted some kind of victory over the proud Valkyries. Robbing them of having legitimately earned the title of 'the ones who finally beat and caught Madame Obsidian' was petty, but it beat getting my ass kicked and them feeling good about it. I never turned myself in. I never felt guilt or remorse. I can't even point to a moment where I definitely turned over my new leaf, if indeed that ever happened. The simple truth is that I was afraid my second stint as a Villainess wouldn't be as fun as the first. I'd done all I could do, stole from the most secure places and evaded the best villains. I'd reached the top of the ladder and wanted a career change less I stagnate. Prison gave me plenty of time to think, and I decided to become a secretary. I didn't even consider teaching until I was approached for this job. My search for a secretary job was newsworthy for a few small time publications, and few companies wanted somebody with my history and fame associated with them. The headmaster contacted me, and asked if I'd ever though about teaching. And I never had before."

Mako could have carried on with her story, that Persia, Mamory, Ruby and Amane were all privy to, for hours if left unchecked, but as they neared the Nurse's office, she saw Dulga leave in a hurry, looking more serious than usual. Mako too turned slightly more serious as she mulled over this event. When they reached the nurse's office, she left the kids in the care of Kiwi and looked over at what she had been doing, which was putting the medical records of several students into an envelope addressed to the hospital. One of them stood out to Mako; Donny Yang.

Mako finished packing the records, turned to Kiwi, and explained that she'd run them up to the Hospital herself so that Kiwi could look after the sudden influx of students in the Nurse's office. Injured hands, broken arms, missing arms...what fun!

Dulga, running to the Hospital carrying rather heavy gunbags, would notice a car pull up in front of her. Mako's head poked out of the driver's window, eyes closed and mouth beaming as per usual.

"Aren't they heavy! Come on! I'm going to the hospital myself! I'll give you a lift!"

@Silver Carrot @Kitty collab
Featuring: Charity Spencer and Miriam Archer
Location: The Destiny - Girl's Bathroom

Charity entered the girl’s bathroom, and locked herself into a stall. She felt a little guilty about leaving Kaz in Gary’s hands. Kaz seemed rather out of her comfort zone. She didn’t want to party. She couldn’t speak particularly good english, and Charity had left her with that scruffy guy who didn’t exactly look like the kind of boy you presented to your parents. Hopefully things wouldn’t get...bad...before she got back to them. Flushing, leaving the stall, and heading to the sink, Charity then started to wash her hands.

Finally taking a chance to go freshen up and reflect on the night so far, Miriam headed to the girl’s bathroom. Upon entering, she took notice of the blonde at the sink already as she herself went to the sink and placed her hands on the counter looking at herself in the mirror.
Underneath her hair on the side of her neck she could see what must have been a small hickey forming from the events with Trent, with a grimace she pushed all her hair to that side hiding it under her golden locks.

As she let out a breath, she took a second to use the mirror to look around the bathroom. Her eyes paused on the reflection of the blonde and the narrowed. ‘Was that… No way it… It is!’ Turning and looking to the blonde on her side a shocked smile formed on her face. “Charity?! Oh my heavens. You look - wow.”

Charity turned, and in an instant looked just as surprised as Miriam. ””Hi! I...wasn’t expecting to see you here! Then again, I wasn’t expecting to be here myself a few hours ago. Trixie dragged me here and I’m just making the best out of an opportunity, maybe write about this party in the paper,” she explained without being asked, speaking quickly, as if she had to get her defense in before the jury conferred. ”What about you? What are you doing here?”

“I’m surprised you hadn’t heard… although relieved just the same.” Pausing, her hand reached up automatically to her necklace, “I- I’m Trent’s date to the party…” Miriam looked away from her friend, not wanting to see how she would react. Tonight had been rough as it was and they both knew who Trent really was so she didn’t want to see her friend’s disgust, as she believed she would receive.

Charity recoiled, but not in disgust as much as sheer confusion. The gears started to turn then, and she leaned in. ”I didn’t think he was your type,” she’d say before leaning in closer and whispering; ”Is everything alright? Can I help?” The look on her face was not one of grave concern and worry. Charity was not overly fond of Trent, and there were some grizzly stories and rumors about him.

A pained sigh escaped Miriam’s lips. She was being torn apart inside on what to say. To tell the truth or continue down the path of lies. She didn’t know which would be worse in the end. She knew which she’d do for now though, but her will was close to breaking and the truth was close to coming out. “No. He’s... um He’s not as bad as he seems. I think what he does at school is an act. Trent can be a gentleman.” Miriam had to hold back a grimace as she called him a gentleman. He was anything but.

Charity wasn’t fooled, but she knew the message to back off and that things were quite complicated. For whatever reason, Miriam wanted everyone to think there was nothing going wrong, not even Charity. This wasn’t normal. There was something going on here, and it clearly wasn’t that Miriam likes Trent now. ”Alright,” she said, ”But I’ll be around if you do need any help. So, how are you enjoying the party?”

“It has been… interesting. What about you, are you enjoying the party?” Miriam asked Charity, not wanting to focus on her time so far. The only good part of the party so far has been her time with Topher. While waiting for her friend to reply, Miriam absent mindedly pushed her hair behind her shoulders. The mark on her neck now visible to her friend as Miri for the moment wasn’t thinking about hiding it, forgetting about it completely.

”I haven’t, really,” Charity replied. ”I’m starting to understand why people drink at these parties. I’m sober and I’m not really having any fun. This is work, to me. A sacrifice I’m making for the Newspaper Club. I tried going indoors but I keep getting asked to dance or worse...” Charity trailed off when she noticed the hickey. She knew exactly what it was, and immediately grew concerned again. Possibly even more so than before. ”That mark on your neck. Did Trent do that?”

How could Miriam let that slip her mind? She let the hickey be seen and now Charity was concerned again and asking about Trent. She couldn’t play this off anymore; tonight had just been too overwhelming for her. The blackmailing had become too much for her to carry to try and keep her brother safe.

Charity’s concern had become the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Miriam felt herself grow a bit weak in the knees as she steadied herself on the sink. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes but she refused to let them fall as she placed a hand on the mark and stared down at the sink in front of her. “Oh Char. I don’t know what I’ve gotten myself into. It’s just so much. Tonight, for the most part, has been absolutely dreadful. I don’t want anything to do with him… I have no other option and…” Shaking her head she trailed off so overwhelmed by everything she’s been holding back from telling someone.

Charity shot forward and hugged Miriam as she was training off, keeping a very tight grip on her. She was silent for a few seconds, before speaking. ”What do you mean you have no other option? If there’s something dodgy going on, even if you can’t tell me everything, at least let me help somehow! I can’t stand seeing you with that expression on your face!”

For a moment Miriam froze but then she hugged her friend back, thankful she hadn’t completely pushed her away in the time they didn’t speak. “He’s blackmailing me. I don’t think there is anything you can really do to he-” The Archer girl paused as an idea came to mind.

Stepping back from the hug, Miriam looked Charity in the eyes. “I have an idea. I’d need your help for it. But I’d understand if you don’t want to do it. Maybe you can help me find something to blackmail him back with. You are the best writer and journalist I know, if anyone could find something on him it would be you.” Miriam had gone from helpless and seemingly broken to a girl with fire in her eyes. She was protective of her brother and Charity could be the person to help them. She’d just have to put up with Trent for long enough for dirt to be found on him, that is if Charity agreed to help.

When Miriam uttered the word ‘blackmailing’, something changed in Charity’s shocked eyes, and she let go of the hug, instead gripping Miri’s arms with her hands, quite hard. When she heard Miriam’s offer, she nodded without a second thought. ”I’m in. I want to pay him back for trying to blackmail you. I know it’s not very Christian to take revenge into your own hands but neither is it Christian to let evil carry on. I believe that would be the worse sin.”

“I don’t know what I would do without you Charity… I can’t face him on my own. You’re my guardian angel aren’t you?” Miriam smiled softly at her friend. She knew that with her help they’d take down Trent. She’d just have to deal with him until then, hopefully he wouldn’t try anything like he did tonight but she couldn’t be sure. Miriam would stay strong and handle him though. She had to in order to protect Matthew. He’d protected her since she was born, it was time for her to return the favor. Thanks to Charity she could take the protection a step further.

Charity smiled and humbly waved off the ‘angel’ comment, before turning serious again, and thinking hard. ”I’m not exactly sure where to start. He’d likely be on his best behavior in church. He plays football, I think. Maybe that’d be a better starting point for digging up dirt. Do you know anything about him that could help?”

“Not yet. But I will see if I can get anything to point us in the right direction. I’m going to be stuck around him for awhile so we can use that to our advantage. I will let you know as soon as I figure something out.” Miriam dreaded spending more time with Trent but they couldn’t blackmail him without dirt and to get even a hint at any, she’d need to be around him a bit more. “I should probably head back out, I was talking to someone and can’t leave them thinking that I ditched them.” Miriam smiled at her friend as she thought about the guy who brought improvement into her night.

”All right. I also have people who I should check up on,” Charity replied, before hugging Miriam again. ”I’m sorry you have to carry on this farce but we need to nail him. ‘In quietness and trust is your strength.’ Anyway, good luck and God bless.”
