At John's words, Thea had made a pouty face. "Oh don't be such a stick in the mud. She wouldn't even have to know you got it from me. She's too entranced with her new wife to pay me any attention tonight." She said with a roll of her eyes before looking to Kazu, a smile spreading across her face as he took the booze. She liked this guy as he made her giggle with his imitation of the noblemen. She'd merely nodded at him as she couldn't quite contain her laugh right away to speak. When she finally did calm herself is when the Alidasht entered.

Thea had been feeling immensely foolish for her clap, but the sound of another clapping with her helped the feeling lessen. She found herself glancing around to find who clapped with her, only for her eyes to land on Prince Felix and she felt her cheeks flush. Had he done that just to keep her from being the only one? A loud voice made her jump and she looked back to the Alidasht party to see the smaller princess who seemed upset at her applause. She had to clench her jaw to keep from yelling something snarky back. She hadn't had enough alcohol to do something so daring just yet.

It was at this moment that Duke Lorenzo came in and everything went to hell in a handbasket. Her eyes widened as half the party fell to the ground and a hand flew to her mouth to stifle a gasp. She heard John's words as he departed, but she was too distracted by the scene. She slightly heard Kazu trying to contain laughter and she looked at him with wide eyes as she began shaking her head. If someone other than her heard him there was sure to be trouble for him.

Blood was being demanded now and Then began feeling mildly ill, praying no blood would be spilt right there. She shut her eyes and held her breath for a moment as a memory played in her mind. It was a memory of watching a person die when she was younger, but she quickly willed. Her eyes opened once more and she quickly downed half her bottle. It was then she noticed Charlotte in front of the Sultan and her breath caught once more. This was the first time she had seen her dear friend and her heart began to race at the dangerous situation she had just stepped into.

It wasn't until she spotted Leo, being ever gallant by stepping in trying to save Charlotte, that ice ran through Thea's veins. All color drained from her as the wine bottle slipped from her grip and shattered on the floor. It was the sound of the bottle shattering that pulled her back to reality and she soon realized she was standing there alone now. Where had Kazu gone? As if in answer, she heard his voice and her head whipped over to the man she'd just met who was now in the middle of the room. She spotted one of the Alidasht prince's distasteful glance towards her brother, then the Grand Vizier whispering to the Sultan, and immediately interpreted it as anger towards her brother. Tears stung her eyes as she feared the worst, then her eyes locked on her fiance. Before she realized it, she was moving towards him.

All proper etiquette was forgotten as she desperately grasped at Prince Felix' arm. "Please, I beg of you, keep them from turning their anger on my brother. I will do anything, I will be the good and proper little fiance everyone wants me to be. I will join you for every event you request me at, I will behave myself, just save him please." Her voice shook as a tear spilled down her face. "Please, I can't lose him too." Her voice broke as she lost her composure some and more tears began to fall. In truth, she didn't know if he even could do anything nor if he really needed to. Truth was she could be overreacting, but trauma had broken her. Deep down she was still the same old Thea, willing to do anything to protect her brother.

Raven had quite a bit she wanted to say in response to Annya’s words about controlling their emotions. She wanted to explain how she’d figured out when their magic first manifested that it was connected to their emotions. To explain that her actions were to keep from losing control, to protect those around. She didn’t, however, have the desire to create any more conflict at the moment so she let it go. She continued to stare out across the ocean, just listening to the others speak.

Eris had internally smirked as Bowyn initially backed her up on asking what the plans were and listened closely as Annya responded. The plan seemed sensible enough, but then Bowyn spoke up once more, this time about the dark elves and how they were pure evil. He even spoke of genocide and it made Eris giggle internally. He was angry and it was clear he wasn’t fond of light elves, she was sure there was plenty of reason why. Light elves weren’t like by many, yet many preferred them over dark elves as dark elves were painted as pure evil.

Anny then also responded, a smart response that kept anger in check despite the clear offense thrown at her. She was correct, however, as the decision of this war did not lie in her hands. It was those that were above her that had the true say. She could only influence where she could. It was Rue’s words that caught her attention the most, however, as she pointed out things that Eris found many forgot about. ”You are very wise, young Rue. Many often forget that the Twins were there when the dark elves were banished, that their father was killed right in front of them under the guise of a peace treaty. It’s rumored that there was an attempt on their life as well, mere children at the time, yet they escaped. That is a pain that will traumatize anyone for a long time, if not their entire lives. They were thrown into a harsh land and no one else tried to help them, including the other races. They let them be banished and many just hoped they would die off and many did. And what of those that banished them? Some still live today so that can keep that pain fresh in their minds.” Eris explained with a sigh as she sat herself upright now. Serious conversations were so dull, but she was here and it was only proper to engage in the conversation.

”Now don’t mistake me for justifying the actions of the dark elves. Their cruelty is one that has gone beyond any others and there must be an end to it. It is wise, however, to remember that their cruelty was born from the cruelty shown to them when they were young over something they could not change. So who really is pure evil?” Eris finished as she glanced between everyone. It was Raven who spoke next, much to the surprise of Eris.

”There is no such thing as pure evil and pure good. One person may view another as pure evil as they only see immediate actions of them. Put yourself in the shoes of the ‘pure evil’ one, experience everything that they have, then decide if you would not be the same way. Evil and good is entirely subjective, what you think is pure evil may not be viewed as pure evil to another. So who truly has the right to determine who is evil and good? Everyone views themselves as the hero of their own story, but fails to realize they may be the villain of someone else's story.” Raven never once took her eyes off the water as she spoke.

Things in the ballroom took a swift turn and it was not one for the better, though perhaps in some people's minds it was. Mina had turned her attention away from the Alidashi prince, the beginnings of a fun game she hoped to enjoy later, only to see the earlier woman she'd been scanning the crowd for entering with her stepfather. Mina watched in alarm as the notoriously shamed Duke Vikena made quite an entrance. She glanced back to Charlotte and then to a woman beside her who watched in absolute horror and disgust as the man made a fool of himself. Mina's heart broke slightly for the man who was trying so desperately to be accepted, yet was failing with every attempt.

That's when disaster struck as an Alidashi guard attempted to stop the Duke and they stumbled, knocking into the men carrying the Alidashi Grand Vizier and Sultan. Things happened swiftly as both men and one of the shehzadis went crashing to the floor. Hafiz was up swiftly, demanding Lorenzo's head while others tried to diffuse the situation. Mina's attention turned back to Charlotte, concern gripping at her for the girl. The woman who had been beside her looked concerned as well as Charlotte seemed to almost collapse. Soon, though, she recovered and she was moving. The woman attempted to stop her, but to no avail as the young woman moved herself in front of the Alidashi royals.

Many excuses were being made by many people, even Lord Smithwood it seemed, but Mina knew this would not do. Another woman, dressed in Alidashi fashion to honor the royals, was now next to Mina and the look she gave the redheaded woman seemed to urge her to act. The little one with the tiger was now speaking, having drawn her weapon and had approached Duke Vikena, but Mina’s eyes were on the Sultan. There was irritation there now, but it wasn’t only towards the Duke as he looked to his children. It also seemed the Grand Vizier was trying to whisper something to him which wasn’t helping matters. On swift feet as silent as a wraith, Mina made her move to try and appease these fierce people. As she got closer, another she had never seen before offered to tell a tale. His words were well spoken and she quietly gave him applause.

”That is enough! Layla, you were not the only one humiliated! You do not get to decide to take this girl under your wing and reap the benefits of her servitude. Back to your place and remain silent until I have made my decision.” The Sultan sharply said to his eldest. He briefly glanced at Nahir, giving a nod of approval to her before speaking to his youngest daughter. ”Mayet! You step out of line! You fault this man for putting so much importance upon himself, yet you are doing the same by making demands without consulting your Sultan first. Hold your tongue, daughter, as I consider the punishments given as a mere apology is not enough.” He sternly reprimanded the young woman. His eyes then fell upon Amir as his son spoke respectfully to his father. Sultan Raif then caught sight of another as she silently entered the scene.

Mina glided up next to Amir, yet kept a respectful distance, as the eldest son finished speaking his words, crossed her arms appropriately, then dipped low to the ground, her skirts poofing out around her. "Peace be upon you, Enlightened One." She said, using a title rarely used anymore yet still showing the utmost respect. "His Royal Highness has beaten me to what I was urged forth to say on behalf of us Northern kingdoms, but I do hope I do not step too far out of line to back him up. Many here are well intentioned, but I fear a difference in culture is blinding many to the severity of the wrong done to you and your family tonight." She remained dipped low, even trying to keep herself lower than Amir out of respect, before glancing to the Sultan, seeing his attention was now fully on her.

"Duke Vikena is a grief stricken man after losing his beloved wife less than a year ago. On top of this, he desperately fights to be accepted in this court as many shame him for having earned his position rather than being born into it." Words tailored to appeal to the Sultan's own loss as well as the Alidashti custom of earning a position were also coated with venom towards those nobles in the room who looked down upon Lorenzo and would side with the Grand Vizier to spill his blood. Many of those same nobles would have hoped to gain the favor of the Alidashti royals, yet in a few simple words Mina would plunge a dagger into those hopes as the Sultan would now look down upon them for their views. Mina would make enemies tonight, this she knew, but she hoped she'd also gain allies.

"However, this, along with all other excuses made tonight for the Duke, does not justify the offense done upon you and your people. If punishment must be enacted then what greater punishment than accepting Lady Charlotte, the Heir of Viermont's offer?" She paused only briefly to make sure eyes were still on her. "For accepting this high lady as a servant is one of the greatest humiliations you could cause the Duke and his household. Besides, with both Alidasht and Varian staying here at the Caesonian castle for the season, an extra servant who knows these halls could be quite useful." Cruel words, but Mina knew it could keep Lorenzo alive for Charlotte. The girl didn't need to lose anyone else. She only hoped she could forgive Mina for the venomous behavior.

So many had spoken up, including this man who offered a story, and the Sultan was beginning to get a headache from it all. He would not be opposed to a story, but he felt now was not the time for such a thing. This mess needed to be dealt with and he now wished for it to be dealt with swiftly. Amir and this woman’s words had helped to temper him some and he looked between them briefly, eyes lingering on the woman. Her manner of speech reminded him so much of his Esrin, perhaps this helped soften him some as well. He noticed Hafiz next to him, glaring at his son and the woman, obviously not satisfied with their suggestions. Raif no longer cared, however, as his bruised ego would heal in time. ”It seems everyone has quite a lot to say on the matter.” He said with an exhausted sigh, then looked to Kazu to address him first. ”Now is not the time for your tale, however you have caught my interest and I may invite you to spin me a tale at a later date.” He then looked to Lorenzo, now wishing to hear from the man himself.

”What say you about this whole mess as you are the cause of all this drama?”

Tigerlily had moved and told everyone to cover their ears and Lizzie found herself doing so against her own will. The shock of the action made her uncomfortable and she found herself looking at the woman with some alarm. She was beginning to understand part of why Tesoro had such an adverse reaction to the siren. To be made to do something against your will was unsettling. There was no time to question it now, though, as the were in the midst of battle.

A boar demi-human had just boarded the ship and Lizzie knew that they needed to be taken care of swiftly. There were also several others who looked to be prepared to head over. Before she could shout orders, however, there was another that had been knocked over that had just climbed up the other side of the ship. She reached out, desperately grasping for that magic she’d felt from earlier, but there was nothing. How she’d created that wave was a mystery to her. She cursed in frustration as she began to stand once more, ignoring the fire in her arm still. ”We’ve got company! Someone cut those lines!” She shouted at her crew as she pointed to the grappling hooks before pulling out her sword. She looked at the demi-human, grinning sadistically.

”Perhaps we’ll feast on boar tonight.” She said tauntingly to him, readying herself for the fight ahead. One thing she excelled at was sword fighting, having a natural affinity for it. She was swift and sure on her feet, though she also wasn’t one to fight fairly, as some would say. She was fond of dirty tricks, anything to help her gain the upper hand. She suddenly ran at him, making a few strikes as she worked her way closer into his guard. When she was close enough, she reached for his pistol while sweeping at his legs. Pistol now in hand and boar man trying to catch his footing, Lizzie showed no mercy as she shot him point blank.

For the last 24 hours, young Thea hadn’t been allowed to leave her mother’s sight as Duchess Alice Smithwood was determined to have her daughter sober for tonight’s ball. She was even under guard all night long, something that had Thea absolutely furious. At about the 12 hour mark, the headaches began and she started shaking mildly. She’d also started feeling rather nauseous. All of the symptoms she was having only made her more irritable and she was snapping at absolutely everyone over the smallest things.

Alice and Thea had begun arguing over whether or not Thea would enter the ball with her fiance. Thea absolutely didn’t want to, she was still incredibly upset with her mother for arranging the marriage without consulting her first. Alice was insistent that she did it as it was only proper. The two ended up screaming at one another and poor Valerie tried to calm them down which only resulted in Thea almost biting her head off. In the end, Alice gave in and had to inform the Varian royal family that her daughter wished to spend some time with her elder brother who’d just returned from a trip.

After that Alice attempted to tell Thea how to dress, but that conversation went about just as well as the previous one and, after some coaxing from Valerie, Alice backed off leaving Thea to choose what she wanted. Out of pure defiance she chose a pink and gold dress that was rather short for for Varian standards and slightly more revealing. She thinks she can control my life? Well she’s got another thing coming. I refuse to be controlled by anyone or anything anymore. She thought to herself, not realizing that the habits she picked up over the last year were actually controlling her life.

Eventually the broken family were heading to the Caesonian ballroom, Alice now ignoring her daughter as her antics were only upsetting her and she was determined to have a nice night. Before entering, Alice did turn to Thea to request her daughter avoid drinking tonight and try to be pleasant to others. Before the girl could reply, however, they were entering and Alice swept Valerie into a dance immediately. Thea stood next to Leo, watching the spectacle and rolling her eyes. ”How ridiculous is she?” She said in a disgusted tone to her brother. She watched for a moment longer before glancing over to the food and drinks. ”Well I’m going to go defy Mother Dearest once more and get myself a damned drink.” She sighed as she began to walk, but then paused. ”Oh! And if you see my fiance at all, would you tell him I died or something? Thank you Leo, love you!” She stood on her tiptoes, kissed him on the cheek, before quickly disappearing into the crowd before he could respond.

She weaved her way over to where two men stood talking, one she knew quite well as he’d helped her multiple times when she’d drink far too much. On her way there she spotted hidden under a table the bottles of wine the servants had brought up for ease of access to open and refill glasses. ”Why hello there my lovelies. Looks like you could use some company.” She said to the bottles as she grabbed one and pulled the cork out. She took a swig of the alcohol and sighed in mild disappointment as it was some mediocre red wine. She longed for the harder alcohols the taverns often had. This would have to do for now, however, and she grabbed a second bottle for later. ”Finders keepers.” She giggled as she finished making her way over to John and Kazu.

”John, darling, it’s lovely to see you! I hope I’m not interrupting anything important?” She said with a happy smile to the two men. ”Would either of you care for a drink?” She held out the opened wine bottle, willing to share and make friends if possible. ”Also if either of you see a tall, blonde haired, green eyed pompous prince of Varian coming this way would you be a doll and give me a heads up so I can quickly duck under this table?” It sounded somewhat like a joke, but in all actuality she was being very serious.

Prince Felix Camilia wasn’t a bad person, Thea had to admit that. In fact, he truly would be a good match and would bring their family a fabulous reputation, but Thea couldn’t help but be filled with fear at the prospect. She truly had nothing against the Prince, but she feared becoming stuck in a marriage like her mother had been. So, in her mind, if she could frustrate the Prince enough he might break off the engagement. She wasn’t sure if he truly wished to marry her, especially with the love letters he sent her, but she didn’t wish for him to be stuck in a marriage he didn’t want either.

Before she could say much more, the Alidashi party had arrived and she watched the procession with awe. Every person was absolutely gorgeous and she had a hard time looking away. She also found herself falling in love with the women’s outfits. Oh I must befriend one of them and exchange dresses with them! She thought excitedly. She then noted the large cat and almost instinctively her eyes went to her brother who she knew would be in love with the majestic creature. Said tiger let out a roar that made Thea jump and almost drop the bottle, but she recovered quickly. Immediately after, Thea quickly put down the bottles and began clapping enthusiastically, but slowed as she soon realized she was one of the only ones doing so.

Well fuck, that was embarrassing…

The trip from Kolonivka to Sorian was always a long one and Mina was never entirely fond of it, but this time she had something to look forward to. The fact that the Alidasht kingdom had been invited to join the season this year was something she was quite excited about. Through her studies and love of books she’d always found the exotic continent of Alidasht quite interesting. The difference in their culture and customs was quite interesting and now she was to interact with them firsthand.

They were only an hour or so from the castle now and Mina had closed her book she’d been reading to stare out the window of the carriage. The difference in scenery from Kolonivka to Sorian was always something that she found interesting. There were no snow capped mountains, it was full of sunshine and green, and it was much warmer as well. The heat wouldn’t be so terrible if it weren’t for the humid climate that came with it. Thankfully they would still have a couple weeks before it got too unbearable for her. At that point she would be longing for the mountains and the cool air.

”Mina, darling, that sun is becoming quite unbearable for me. Would it be okay if we closed the curtains?” The voice of Count Sebastian Blackwood, Mina’s beloved uncle, hit her ears and she found herself glancing sideways at her uncle. He had his eyes closed and was rubbing at his temples as if he were trying to ward off a headache. She took one more glance outside before closing the curtain, causing the inside of the carriage to become quite dark minus the candles they had burning to provide some light. He’s looking so pale, I wonder… Mina thought to herself as she looked her uncle over.

”Did you take it this morning?” She asked him and he quickly began waving her off. ”You fret too much over me Mina. I’m fine, I just didn’t sleep well last night.” Her eyes narrowed at him and her jaw clenched slightly. He always wished for her to not fret over him, but he failed to realize that he was all she had left in this world and his health was important to her. If he wasn’t taking what he needed to keep up his strength and stay healthy then she would make him.

She quickly snatched up the satchel that was beside him which he in turn quickly tried to snatch back, but she smacked his hand away. She dug through the satchel until she found several vials and began counting them. A flash of irritation crossed her features as she quickly looked up at the man in front of her who was now trying to avoid eye contact. ”For God’s sake, Uncle, you know tonight is important and you need to be well for it. I know you hate it, but this is what life is right now until we can solve this. So you will take these right now with no complaints and then you will take a second dose before we head down to the ball tonight, do you understand?” One may be appalled at the commanding tone she used when speaking to her elder, but many didn’t realize that Sebastian viewed his adopted daughter as an equal to him and he’d raised her to be strong and commanding. Truly he was proud of the woman she’d become.

She’d thrust her hand out towards him with two vials and he sheepishly took them from her. He stared at the liquid for a long moment before speaking once more. ”It’s getting worse, Mina.” The red haired woman’s face softened and a small moment of sadness appeared in her eyes as she closed them and fought back tears. When she opened them again she reached forward and gently took his empty hand. ”I know. We’ll figure this out soon, I promise.” It took everything in her to keep her voice from breaking. Finally the Count let go of Mina’s hand, uncorked the viles, and downed the contents.

They’d arrived the the Caesonian castle without anymore issue and were led to the suites they were always given to stay in. Mina was thankful for the consistency as the familiarity of the rooms helped her feel a bit more at home. They had some time to settle in before they were to get ready for the ball. Mina had chosen a black chiffon dress that had an open back and intricate lace sleeves that were sheer and fitted. Down the center of the front was the same sheer lace that left one wondering if there was a piece of cloth that matched her skin tone perfectly or if it was a bit more risque. Her hair was pulled back into a loose messy braid that was pulled over her right shoulder. Adorning her neck was a black choker necklace that had a white, oval gem in the center surrounded by two crescent moons. If one were to look closer at that gem they would notice a pretty little spider encased within it.

Once she was ready, she took one last look at herself in the mirror. Alright Mina, no worries tonight. Focus on having some fun for once, you deserve it. She thought to herself with a sigh before emerging from her room to find her uncle waiting on her. ”Mina, you look absolutely lovely.” He said to her as he held out her arm. She gave him a thankful smile, but was actually assessing the state of him. He looked much better than he did earlier, not near as pale, and it brought her some relief as she linked her arm in his. It seemed he actually took the dose like she told him to and that fact alone lifted some worries off her shoulders.

They entered the ballroom shortly after the two duchesses of Varian and their family, utilizing the distraction to go fairly unnoticed by most. Neither of them liked being in the spotlight too often, but they would accept it if it happened. Once inside, the Count leaned over to his niece to whisper in her ear. ”I’m going to go speak with friends I haven’t seen in a long time. You should go have some fun and don’t worry about me as I’m feeling just fine.” With that he left his niece to stare after him, worry still crossing her face even though he told her not to. She couldn’t help it, she had a feeling she would always worry about her uncle.

After a moment longer of watching him, Mina decided to find herself a drink and stand to the side to people watch as she often liked to do. She gave a friendly smile and a greeting to a few people that approached her, but they never stuck around for long as they were social creatures and Mina currently didn’t have to be. She did keep her eyes open for a few specific people, however, like her dear friend Dr. John Williamson. She spotted him and considered briefly going to say hello, but it seemed he’d found someone to interact with so she held off. There would be plenty of time to find him later.

She also noted Lord Roman, another friend of hers, had also joined this time, which surprised Mina a little. He hadn’t seemed like one to ever wish to come to this big court gathering, yet here he was. She made another mental note to visit with him as well.

She then found her eyes scanning for another she hadn’t seen in a very long time, Lady Charlotte Vikena. When they were younger, the two would exchange book recommendations and discuss the different books they’d read. Mina had truly enjoyed the girl's company, but she’d been so guarded at the time she didn’t allow herself to grow too close to the girl. So, unfortunately, their communication was limited to the times they would see each other at court. Mina had heard, however, that the girl had lost her mother over the last year and it had caused Mina to worry how she was doing. She knew that her stepfather loved her dearly, but the poor man had a rough time at court. She remembered the ferret incident and many weren’t fond of the creature. Mina had found it rather cute, but unfortunately her word mattered little at the time. She only hoped they were doing well.

As she was scanning the room for Charlotte, the highly anticipated guest seemed to arrive. The theatrics of the Alidasht party were surprising, yet Mina found it quite delightful, especially since she knew King Danrose would not be thrilled about being shown up on theatrics. In fact, she briefly glanced at the King just to see his reaction. She had to give him props for keeping a fairly pleasant face, but it was evident to her by a tiny twitch of his eye that he was secretly fuming. She wanted to praise the Alidasht even more after that.

Her eyes fell back on the party as she took in each person she figured to be the royals. The first one she saw was a woman directly to the side of the Sultan was absolutely stunning with light green eyes that contrasted with her beautiful tan skin. Next to her was an equally handsome man, however he looked so stern and cold. She knew his appearance would intimidate many in the room. Then there was another woman with almost golden colored eyes and beautiful hair. Just like her other two siblings, she was absolutely stunning.

On the other side of the Sultan her eyes fell on a smaller woman dressed in a beautiful outfit that just enhanced her own beauty. Then she saw a dark tiger and Mina only had a moment to marvel at the creature when she felt eyes upon her. Her eyes met those of the man, noting his expression, and she found a smirk of her own spreading across her lips. The tiger roared, but Mina didn’t even flinch as she continued the silent, seductive staring competition, even going as far as to obviously look him over. The rim of her wine glass met her smirking lips as she took a sip. She maintained eye contact for a moment more before looking away, feigning boredom, yet the smirk was still there. Perhaps this would be a fun night after all.
With the RP starting, we are closing applications to any new royals. If you have discussed making a royal with us before this post, but are still working on a character sheet you're good still. Any potential newcomers, however, are still allowed to apply, though only nobles and servant positions are open. That being said, secret royals are still a possibility. What I mean by this is your character is either a noble or a servant, but they don't know that they are actually royalty. Hopefully that makes sense.
@princess I saw the plot summary in the first post, I was just checking to see if I understood it correctly. Also, while I'd love to join the discord, the link's broken 😅

Oh no! We'll have to figure out what's up with that haha. In the meantime I'll PM you the link ☺️.
@Viper Sebastian Thank you for your interest in our RP, unfortunately we don't feel like your character would be a good fit within the world we created and so because of this we won't be accepting your character.
