Everyone knows the Darcones. They are Archadian royalty. Their name carries weight. They are like the Alexanders of Dalmasca and Roselias of Rozarria. All three families represent their respective empires and/or kingdoms. But what about the lesser families? What about those that serve these royal families? What do they get? They might get some acknowledgement, but that’s the most you’ll ever see.

In Dalmasca, you have the Quinns. They have served the royal family of Alexander since until Queen Ashelia B’nargin Dalmasca ruled several hundred years ago. They served the Rosenbergs after Bosch von Rosenberg’s granddaughter, Raila von Rosenberg married the nephew of Ashelia, Vaan B’nargin Dalmasca to combine the two families.

Over time, despite the shifting families of power, the Quinns remained as a branch of the main royal family, forever in their service no matter what.

Archadia was no different.

Only, instead of the family name being “Quinn”, the Archadian equivilant was the Wards. And rightly fitting so since only decades after the Solidors lost power of Archadia after Larsa III threatened to destroy what her namesake built. It was Bahamut’s great grandfather, Lagoon Darcone, declared war upon the Emperor Larsa Vayne Solidor III.

The battles fought between the warring Houses was long. It lasted a full century. Only when Lagoon’s son and Hamut’s grandfather, Ignis Atrox Darcone, had taken control of the dwindling rule that an aging Larsa III had over Archadia. He was over 100 years old, yet was still breathing. But that wasn’t going to last long. Not only was life short, but the houses that served under him were losing faith, specifically the Wards. They saw that the Solidors were losing sight of what once made them great, and opted to switch to the Darcones.

Since the Wards were more than half of their fighting force and they went up and declared themselves no longer in service of the House Solidor, the war didn’t last much longer. After the defeat of the remaining forces, Larsa Solidor III opted for suicide instead of facing his crimes against his own Empire.

And as time would pass, each generation of Wards would be like distant aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and cousins to the Darcones. Whenever they needed support, they provided it. When they needed extra fighting forces, they provided it. Whether it was then or now, House Ward was behind the Darcones. During the invasion of Dalmasca, led by Judge Ixion, the Wards were among the main fighting force on the ground. When the Crown Prince Grant needed direction, the Wards gave him manpower. Everything the Darcone’s wanted, House Ward gave them. But just hours ago, house Ward was requested by the current head of House Darcone, Hamut Darcone, to do something terrible. That was something they could not and would not do.

And they were vocal about it.

When they opposed, Hamut ordered that all Wards be imprisoned.

But one got away. This one was fortunate enough to be out of Archadia at the time. In fact, she was just getting off of an airship at the Archadia Aerodome.

“Enjoy your stay at The Imperial City.”

Yeah, I suppose.” A woman said, seeming distracted about something.

She walked through the gates. Looking to be barely past twenty-five, maybe twenty-six, she had hair of crimson and eyes of jade. Skin was flawless white, few freckles but nothing to be alarmed of. Her body was modestly proportioned. Average curves all around. She looked desirable enough to not look plain but not too much that she would stand out in a crowd of people. She wore loose beige pants held up by a brown leather belt that seemed to be three belts in one. On her torso, she had a simple red, sleaveless shirt, showing lean muscles. She also had a white headband that held her hair up, revealing a deformed ear.

As she walked, trying not to run into anyone, she caught sight of three very recognizable people. The first was a blonde - and not archadian based on his clothing. Definitely a Rozarrian. She knew him because she knew his face. Lorenzo Roselia his name was. A loudmouth, but a passionate man. Lover of only one and father to one Nadeline Lenore Roselia.

And beside him, “Empress Reia? What’s she doing here?” She mused, trying nto to get too close but the curiosity got the better of her.

Empress Reia was with her brother in Archadia, so who was—

The third person turned around. She almost didn’t recognize him. His body ink didn’t show, he wasn’t wearing his trademark red jacket, nor was his hair down to his shoulders. “Jackson Darcone,” she uttered with a gruff scoff. Right away, she took off to a run, as they were starting to turn back around. This was her chance. Right as they would get out of the doors…

WHAM!

The girl made contact with him. Her foot planted directly in the center of his back, sending him tumbling forward several times over until he hit a lamp post head-first.

Ow!

Jaakuna was bleeding. And before he would get that chance to collect himself, the girl had drove a knee into his spine, pressing his head more into the lamp post. She then turned him over, and made sure he saw her face before she kneed him in the place that no guy ever wanted to get kneed in. As a result, Jaakuna let out a not-so-manly squeel that would lessen his man points by a deep margin. More than that, but there were a few people snickering as they saw him get taken down by a girl.

What the hell?” Jaakuna looked, and he couldn’t believe it. “N-Nila?” JAakuna stuttered, “Nila Ward? Is that you?” Jaakuna asked, coherent now.

Just who do you think you are, huh?

Me?! I’m not the one who sneak attacked the guy currently trying not to cry again.

Nila took Jaakuna’s hair and fisted a handful into her hand, tugging at it to bring him closer to her face. “You know what I meant, you jackass.

JAakuna looked at her blank.

You left me. Not only that, but you didn’t take me with you when you left.” Nila’s voice was cracking with emotion.

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Ten years ago! You promised me your hand in marriage after Savayna was betrothed to your brother!” Nila yelled at the top of her lungs.

All Jaakuna could do was look at Reia and Lorenzo, hoping to get some form of help. It wouldn’t come. Instead, he was left to deal with Nila Ward, angrily crying at him, punching his chest until her arms would give out(at the cost of his bruised chest, mind you).

Wesley knew he had to soak up the journey back to Dalmasca. He knew once they reached it, the adventuring would be over for him and Nadeline, so that’s why he opted for the long way home. Several times over, they could have taken a path that was a shortcut to Rabanastre. But Wesley did it on purpose. He was sure Nadeline knew he was doign this on purpose. But, he didn’t care. He jsut wanted to savor it for as long as he could.

As they reached the Estersand, Wesley felt something odd in the air. It was foul, yet familar.

You feel that, don’t you Wesley?

Wait, Nadeilne,” Wesley said, stopping in his tracks. He surely saw the Royal City of Rabanastre a tenth of a league away. He should keep going, but Hashmaal knew the reason. The foul stench in the air crippled Wesley. “I feel something...morbid in the air. Do you feel it too?” Wesley asked.

She won’t feel it, Wesley. She doesn’t have the Seraph SEal yet. You are able to sense it because you possess my seal -the Order Seal. your awareness to corrupt mist is on the level of that Viera, Aloa.

Wesley was starting to understand that now. The way it felt, the way it forbade him from taking another step - it was enough to make the average man to break. And Wesley was near that point. He couldn’t move. Not even if he was forced by enemy attacks. Everything around him was too much. Wesley felt the weight of Zodiark’s precence forcing itself on every bone of his body. What was even worse, he felt the sense of dread. But there was something...else.

Hashmaal, what is that I sense?

Unlike before, when Hashmaal would speak, Nadeline would be able to hear him too. “I..do not know. It’s definitely Zodiark, but it’s something..different. I can’t place it. It’s...ancient, something unlikethis world has ever seen. Not since Venat, The Undying.

Wesley knew that name. It was back when Vayne of House Solidor threatened to claim Ivalice as his own. “What are you saying?

I wish I knew.

Biting her lower lip, Reia (rather uncharacteristically) restrained a snicker as the woman would confront Jaakuna. It was a little mean spirited, yes, but she had to admit it was rather funny. Though the scene unfolding before her very quickly reminded her exactly why she preferred to have lovers rather than actual relationships; people were much too unpredictable, their desires and dreams much too fleeting for her own taste. Still, the girl's name definitely rang a bell, though she couldn't remember exactly where. She was well aware of the name, one of the biggest in Archadia, but for some reason this one in particular seemed to make her try to remember something.

Lorenzo, on the other hand, was outright laughing at Jaakuna. Ah, to be young and in love! Although now that he thought about it, this woman was definitely not what's-her-face (he knew her name started with an 'E' but Elizabeth was his own way of badly admitting her never remembered her name), and mostly definitely was NOT over Jaakie. Once the realization hit him, a curious look appeared, and he watched as Jaakuna would look to him for asistance. At the risk of probably getting pummeled himself, Lorenzo would gently pull Nila away from Jaakuna, offering a grin.

"There, there, we all know this guy's a jackass," He comforted her, though this time Reia wasn't quite able to hold back a laugh. He ignored her for the moment, gesturing at Jaakuna. "Oi, Jaakie, what's this all about, then?"

Reia quirked an eyebrow at her brother, though she stayed silent, if only because she didn't want to admit she was just as curious about the situation.

Morbid? What was morbid? Before Nadeline could ask, however, Wesley continued to speak to himself, though she would learn he was speaking to his Esper. Something was amiss, though that something was Wesley. He was concerned about...something, although what exactly she wasn't sure. She sure wished Ultima would clue her in, but the Seraph wasn't exactly the chatty type and preferred that they would keep a respectable distance. Admirable, but it didn't quite help the situation. Nadeline mentally prodded Ultima, wanting her to speak, though she outright ignored her.

Letting out a huff of annoyance, she tugged on Wesley's sleeve. "What is happening, Wesley?" She asked him, feeling left out.

He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Nila wanted answers. Lorenzo wanted answers. Reia, though she remained silent as a mute, wanted answers as well. And here was Jaakuna, still aching slightly from Nila’s surprise attack, didn’t know how to give those answers. He didn’t know what those answers were. But as he would look at each and every one of them briefly, he knew he would have to say something.

Taking a breath in, Jaakuna would exhale, and said, “Not here.

Why not here?” Nila interjected.

Jaakuna would simply point to the crowd that was gathering. Nila scoffed. “Fine, but you’re not escaping from telling me.

Now Jaakuna was the one who scoffed. He wouldn’t say anything. All he would do is gesture Reia and Lorenzo to follow him, telling them that they were going to move away from the crowd. Of course, that seemed easier said than done. They were crowding around like crowds did. It took a bit of shoving and pushing, but the four would soon be able to hail an aircab. At least then they would be able to have privacy for as long as the cab would take to get to Roman’s office.

Okay, we’re alone. Start talking. And it better be a good one.” Nila said, assuring Jaakuna of a certain action that will be taken again.

“This isn’t a happy story nor will it satisfy you.” Jaakuna told Nila, “when Savayna was promised to Vincent, I was, for the lack of a better word, a fool. I made promises to a lot of women. I gave them my ‘word’ that they could have me. In truth, I was a bastard. A womanizing bastard. SOmetime after that, Savayna and Vincent’s wedding was called off. Instead, I was forced into a marriage with her. Of course, I know you know this. There was a big wedding and everything. Not even a full year after the fact, well, do I really need to say it?

Yes.

JAakuna sighed, “I was charged with my father’s murder, whcih I was on the run. You can ask Savayna for the details next time you see her.” Jaakuna said, not realizing how much he said in teh span of just one minute. “Anyways, that’s what happened. That’s why I left. But hey, you look good. Time has been good to you.

Yup, Jaakuna could just hear the seething scoffs from both Reia and Lorenzo. Good job again, Jaakuna.

You mean you can’t sense it?” Wesley asked, somewhat surprised. Wesley could sense it. Oh boy could he sense it. The putrid mist overwhelmed the air, distorting it in ways that made the Prince of Dalmasca nauseous. Though it died down in the passing moments, it still did a number on Wesley’s equilibrium. “It’s the mist, Nadeilne. The mist that Zodiark has created. And I feel it all. I can sense how morbid it is, the way it makes the hairs on my arms cower in fear, the way that it both enhances and weakens my own mist.” As Wesley described that, he felt himself both cower in fear because of Zodiark’s presence and empowered by it. “I now understand what Vlyn and Aloa feel. Ever since I was given the Order Seal, I am more understanding to the inner-workings of Ivalice’s Mist. and it’s terrifying.” Wesley said, literally shaking, “this is what’s happening Nadeilne. But above all else, somewhere nearby, there is something far worse than Zodiark. Hashmaal knows not wha tit is, but it’s similar to Venat, The Undying from all those years ago - the same Venat that are in the Scrolls of Ivalice’s History.

Of all the things to close with, did Jaakuna really need to be so curt? No, it was his informality that really seemed to make things worse. He was certainly very casual all things considered. Shifting slightly in her seat, she placed her hands on her knees rather daintily, shooting Jaakuna a look. “What is it about men that empty their minds so much that even common courtesy escapes them?” She asked the clearly rhetorical question. “And what sort of compliment was that? Is that supposed to tide her over?

Now it was Lorenzo’s turn to snicker, though he was clearly enjoying Jaakuna’s discomfort. “Now Miss Ward is well aware of what happened. Satisfied, or do you need to know more?

Oh that was the complete opposite of good. This was supposed to be their new beginning, and something clearly evil was lurking nearby. She couldn’t help but scratch her arm nervously, looking towards the distance. To think it could unnerve Wesley was really telling. But what was its goal? Was it simply lurking? Or was it planning to attack Dalmasca? After a moment, she looked at him very seriously.

Do you believe it is something we should take care of?” She asked him though her expression fell into one of sadness. “Too bad we’re all separated…perhaps together we could have investigated.

Jaakuna stayed quiet, only looking over at Reia as she silently judged him after she said what she said. He had not an answer for her that would satisfy nor cease the disappointment that was clearly across her face. So instead he looked to Lorenzo and Nila, waiting like the rest were for her answer.

Biting on her tongue, she muttered something under her breath but it was not audible. After that, she spoke. “Whatever.” She said simply. Not offering a confirmation nor denying if she was happy with what Jaakuna had told her. She would not take her eyes off of him for the entire remainder of the trip, which was spent in mostly silence.

As the cab came to a stop, Jaakuna would pay the fee, as he felt that he was resonsible considering how he acted earlier.

When they stepped out, Nila did as well. Jaakuna looked at her instantly. “What do you think you’re doing?

I’m going with you.

The hell you are!” Jaakuna snapped, looking to Reia and Lorenzo, “tell her she’s not coming.

Nila looked at the two. “And tell this asshole that I’m going with you.

Whether they liked it or not, the ball was forced into their court. Time to serve it up.

Wesley didn’t like this one bit. He knew in the direction of that foul Mist only meant certain trouble. He knew that the smart thing would be to go to Rabanastre, maybe hope that what he sensed would go away, and he could begin on becoming King of Dalmasca. On the other hand, the honorable blood of the Alexanders that flowed through Wesley’s veins told him this was something he could not ignore, not when Hashmaal told him it was of similar make of Venat, The Undying.

Truly, Wesley was at a crossroads.

Taking a few moments to contemplate it, WEsley would look at Nadeline who had the most saddest impression he had ever seen her have. It made him weap internally. It wasn’t just what this foul Mist presented, but the fact that it was on the level of Venat and that Nadeline, even though she herself couldn’t sense it, it brought sadness to her face because the others weren’t present.

The others..” Wesley mused, though he didn’t mean to do so aloud. He coughed. “As much as it pains me, I believe we’ll have to put my return to Dalmasca on hold,” Wesley said, somewhat sighing.

Wesley, are you sure?” Hashmaal asked.

No, not even close to that, Hashmaal. But this is something I know in my gut that I cannot — and quite frankly, I will not — ignore. This is my country. Something foul and unwelcomed crosses into my country’s borders. As the rightful king of Dalmasca, I have a duty to see to that this is nothing but some —” Wesley paused, "as JAakuna would put it —” he said, curving a smile, “some bad juju that needs to get their shit wrecked.” A wider smile appeared on his face, one that was accompanied by a proud laugh.

Wesley now turned to Nadeline, “come my darling. We have to, once again, save this world from certain doom.” Wesley took Nadeilne’s hand, and off towards the source of the foul Mist they went. Off to the Sandsea.

Why did he have to decide? Lorenzo wasn't happy with the decision being his, though as he would look to his sister for help, she would offer no condolences. Man, she could be a real pain in the ass sometimes even when she wouldn't utter a word. Lorenzo let out a rather nervous chuckle, trying to dissuade having to make the decision, but the longer he remained quiet, the more piercing both Jaakuna and Nila's glared would be. Yup, it fell on him with no way out. He honestly didn't see too much of a problem--the Wards were, after all, second to royalty, but Jaakuna was very clear in saying he didn't want Nila to tag along.

Letting out a cough to clear his throat, Lorenzo would try a reasonable approach. "In all fairness, we do have something pretty important to discuss with the Emperor. You wouldn't want to get swept in with all the boring chatter now, would you?"

"Don't bother," Reia stated rather simply, taking Lorenzo's hand as she would exit the vehicle. As she would smooth out any wrinkles that would appear, she let out a small sigh. "She's already made up her mind, regardless of what we have to say or what reason we may give."

Lorenzo nearly fell over at Reia's rather sudden decision. Why didn't she just say that earlier?! "S-So...uh, let's get going?"

Wesley seemed very sure of himself. Nadeline wasn't as confident as he was. Perhaps it was more because she was painfully aware of her status as the weak link of the group, but she felt uneasy as Wesley would take her hand in hers, though they would begin the trek through the desert regardless. She continuously prodded Ultima as they would walk, though her Esper was as stubborn as she was. Would her and Wesley be able to handle whatever awaited them in the distance? Or was this a mistake? For the first time in her life, uncertainty had a hold over her heart and wasn't going away. She really didn't like where this was going, though she could not bring herself to object to Wesley.

"Coward," Ultima scolded her.

Nadeline let out a gasp, clearly surprised. "She spoke to me!" She told Wesley rather excitedly, though it then dawned on exactly what Ultima said. "...How very rude."

"I speak only to inform you that your annoying way of thinking will only serve to hamper you. At the very least, if you're going to get in the way, simply stand back and let your man do all the fighting," Ultima chided her.

Nadeline huffed. "I will NOT stand by like some idiotic damsel! I can do my part as well!" She retorted, and would pick up her pace to the point she was practically dragging Wesley along with her. "The very first time she chooses to speak, she insults me! The nerve, why, you would think an ancient being would at the very least have some manners!" She began her rant, annoyed.

Keiran stepped over the body of the fallen Urutan-Yensa, letting out a low whistle of approval. He grinned, though he had to jog to keep up with Emiri. The girl was dragging her sword behind, little more than determination keeping her going at this point. She wielded the darkness like a true professional, and he had to admit himself proud. But the heat was an entirely different story, and even he was starting to feel some of the effects. As if reading his thoughts, Emiri would halt, turning around to look at him. Keiran gave her an apologetic smile, though the pair would then settle on a spot under the massive oil rig.

Emiri leaned against the metal, sliding down into a sitting position. It was cool to the touch, giving her a much needed cooling. The sun was particularly brutal today, and she would desummon her sword. She eyed Keiran for a moment, and he would look at her curiously. "I'm surprised," He admitted as he was sit down next to her. "You would stop, even if for a moment, despite the circumstances."

She would motion towards the literal path of death she left behind. "As if Lola would dispatch those things as easily. I need to be in good condition to face her...it's no good if I'm tired," She admitted, brushing her bangs aside with her hand. "Just a moment's reprieve...and then, onwards."

Keiran nodded in agreement, stretching his arms above his head. Boy, was having a physical body cumbersome. He almost wished he had a female one; at the very least, he would have something to look at. His own eyes wandered over Emiri's body, though he was surprised to find that she ended up falling asleep. No, he shouldn't have been surprised, she should have been tired. She used a lot of magicks in her fight against Shion, and there's only so much one still getting used to their powers could do. At the very least, his master should be happy. That was all that mattered, after all.

Savayna never did light stealth. She had always preferred to meet the enemy head-on as she had done at the front gate. But due to her annoyance of a shoulder injury and the realization that they were heavily out-numbered, she took the advice of Grant, Zeromus, and even her own esper, Mateus to refrain from attacking head-on. Instead, they would fly so high that no scanner on the ground, eyes of the Brotherhood, or any combination of the former two, would be able to spot them.

That didn’t mean she couldn’t express her concerns about it, which she had been doing the entire time. “You boys are so cowardly. We have the power to take them out. Why don’t we just do it and be done with it?” Savayna complained, letting out a sigh of exaggerated annoyance.

Because you’re hurt. Because they have more manpower than us. ” Mateus said, not hiding his annoyance towards Savayna. “And because we put it to a vote. You lost 3-1. Grant is in charge. And if he says we scout for a way in without being caught, then that’s what we’re going to do.

Savayna scoffed, “fine.” She said, looking at Grant, “so, great leader, what are we to do next? Or have you lost your manly bits to command a woman and two flying beasts?” Savayna said, clearly still annoyed.

Do not frown, Nadeline Roselia. The High Seraph, while she may be blunt about it, knows the strength you have. We both saw it in Giruvegan. It is why she chose you over the Blue Rose.” Hashmaal said, trying to ignore the scoffs he heard from Ultima. “She simply wants you to start believing that. Because, there will come a time —” Hashmaal stopped dead in his tracks, hearing something off in the distance.

What is it, Hashmaal?

The source of that foul Mist has stopped.

Stopped how?

Physically, it has stopped moving.” Hashmaal said, informing the others of the situation.

Wesley wanted to speak, but he didn’t. Instead, he sensed what Hashmaal was talking about. And it seemed that they weren’t very far. Maybe a little less than half of a mile. Based on their position, they had just entered the Westersand. But they werne’t going to remain there for long. WEsley tracked the mist signal. They were running rather fast. In minutes, they had crossed into the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea. No doubt it was some haste spell, maybe Hastaja, a spell that quadrupled the normal speed of a person for a short time.

That has to be it,” Wesley said, nodding to himself. Hashmaal glanced at Wesley. The prince glanced back, then to Nadeline. “My darling, are you capable of the Hastaga spell? I’ve pinpointed the general location of where we need to be at.” Wesley said, looking ahead. “The Ogir-Yensa Sandsea is where we need to be, but at normal speed, we won’t get there in time. A boost is what we need.” Wesley explained to Nadeline, gently smiling at her.

For all intents and purposes, Grant was pleased with himself. Savayna was at his whim this time, and in all honesty, it felt good to have a little power over the woman who wouldn't let him have his way. At the very least, he got to choose the way they'd go, and so he chose stealth. Even if she was at full strength he preferred it this way: getting an advantage over an enemy was always the way to go. As she would ask about their next course of action, he would watch the area below them carefully. A blockade was certainly in place, but why? The best thing to do would be to find an opening, but he wasn't seeing one. He almost admitted defeat when he would get an idea.

"The plan is rather simple, and a combination of what you and I love most about our styles: it'll employ both brutality and stealth," He stated, instructing Zeromus to start heading down and beckoning Mateus to do the same. "We four will simply drop in, though you and I, Savayna, will be hidden under the Vanish spell as we infiltrate their ranks. Our espers can't be defeated per se, so even if things go south the distraction will cause enough of a ruckus that we can easily choose our next course of action."

Zeromus seemed a little hesitant. He didn't quite enjoy being little more than fodder, though he was happy to help.

It was close already? Nadeline took in a deep breath in an attempt to mentally prepare herself. No going back now, and it wouldn't do to turn her heel and leave. As Wesley would inquire about Time Magick, she agreed that it was the best course for them. As she unsheathed her rapier, she would concentrate. Time Magick wasn't her specialty, but she figured the theory couldn't be too different from Green Magick. Her glyph would appear between them, the middle part scribing itself into a clock. It would tick a second forward, then a minute, then an hour, and soon the hands would spin forward rapidly. Around them, it would seem as if everything else slowed down, and she would look at Wesley.

"Onward!"

Though he didn’t like it, Mateus would silently accept the role he played in this strategy. Savayna would hear him scoff, as if he didn’t accept the role completely. She shrugged, seing as this being the perfect plan. Grant was right. It was a mix of both things they enjoyed. He would get his fill of stealth, and Savayna would be able to do what she did best: kick ass and take names. “Since you’re leading the charge, after you.” Savayna said, waiting to follow Grant’s lead.

It always felt strange for Wesley whenever he was enhanced by a time magick spell. Whether it was slow, stop, or haste, there was always a certain feeling he got. Slow made him nauseous. Stop gave him the weirdest sense of vertigo, but when it came to haste, one could say that WEsley exhibited symptoms akin to that of high-energy adrenaline. And it only was more evident the higher the tier of the spell.

After the second tier, WEsley got loud. Not only loud, but all previous doubts that Wesley had been adopting a Jaakuna-like persona underneath his usually-eloquent one would otherwise be tossed out the window. The classy gentleman of Dalmasca got just as hyper, just as wild as his friend. Maybe it was the rush of the spell or how time blurred around him, but running that fast past any and all desert-dwellers made him feel a certain kind of power that would probably make those around him wary.

This is incredible!” Wesley would yell at a volume that was unnecessary.

Wesley felt himself not having any care int he world. He was laughing at a high volume, even going as far as to jump high, flipping in ways no one would even consider he was capable of. All he was missing was a red jacket and blonde hair, and Wesley might be considered as Jaakuna Junior.

But alas, like all good things, the rush he felt, the speed he had, was gone. It was at the right time, of course, but WEsley felt severely disappointed by this. A part of him liked the speed, but all was well in a moment. When the rush passed, as did the disappointment and Jaakuna-like persona.

Taking a moment to collect himself, WEsley, once again, found himself paralyzed. “Not again,” Wesley gritted under his breath. “Before it was putrid but tolerable, but now..” WEsley found his strength weakened. Not only that but everything in him was screaming “turn around”. Of course he couldn’t listen, not when the source of this morbid mist was in the distance. If he turned away now, Wesley would never be able to face his country. SOmething this wicked cannot be allowed to roam free. “We..must..go now.

Each step Wesley took was a struggle. Even with the aid of Hashmaal making up for his lost strength and stamina, it was difficult. Half as fast as he was in a normal, brisk walk, WEsley moved slowly, gritting his teeth, breathing heavily, and found his chest wa sheavy. After about ten steps, Wesley fell to his knees, sweating profusely.

Keiran you fool.

The Creature waited above the skies where Zodiark’s influence gathered above the Dalmasca Westersand, Dalmasca Estersand, and the vast Sandsea of Ogir-Yensa and Nam-Yensa. The Influence woudl be felt all aorund. Those with alignments to the light would most surely feel it. Those with the Unlocked Seals more so than those their Scion Seals still locked. The clouds themselves cast a great shadow over the sea of sand, giving its entirety a dimming of color display. It was similar to that of a very cloudy day.

As The Creature watched with many eyes on the ground, it simply observed as The Bringer of Order and The High Seraph’s hosts landed in the epicenter of what it had been building for several hours. It also took note to how they were merely half of a mile away from where Keiran and the Time Scion were.

How very interesting.” The Creature mused. It pondered on the course of action it should take. Direct Keiran to their direction and have an interesting confrontation or lead them opposite and let the plans go without inturruption. The Creature was sure The Dark One wouldn’t mind either. His will flowed storng through The Creature.

“Do as you see best,” The Creature heard The Dark One say to it.

Very well.” The Creature had said in response.

Two pulses of invisible, corrupted Mist was sent throughout the Sandsea. The first was a non-harmful sort. It was directed at Keiran, which would give him the push to a certain direction that happened to be where Wesley and Nadeline were at. The second would be directed towards Nadeline. This one, however, wasn't harmfree. In fact, it was completely the opposite. when it would reach her, first it would give her a minute of paralysis, forbidding her to move. Even if she tried, she would fail. then, it would send her images of what The Time Scion did today. It would be images of her fighting Aloa, of her fighting Shion, of her using her power on her father. It would be the words she spoke to those people, words she spoke to herself. But it would leave out everything that those others said to her to try to get the Time Scion to stop it. Completely one-sided, it was.

Let the games begin, Heretic Sympathizers.

The cooperation was appreciated, though he could live without the sass. Nonetheless he would nod in agreement, his gun at the ready with Zeromus' glyph glowing on his hand. His Esper and himself were in sync, and Grant would climb on top of his shoulders, a magical glyph appearing underneath him. A similar one would appear beneath Savayna, and Grant would motion the two Espers to go forth. As they would go, Grant's first spell was cast just before they became visible: "Gravity!" He called, leaving himself and Savayna in mid air as their Espers would drop to the ground. After mentally counting out the time, the Gravity spell would begin to wane, and the pair would slowly begin to sink. "Vanishga!" Came his next spell, wrapping himself and Savayna in a cloak of invisibility. The pair would be able to touch on the ground just as Gravity would expire. Time to get things going.

"Wesley!" Nadeline called out to him, immediately rushing to the man as he fell to his knees. As she extended her hands towards him, her words were caught in her mouth quite literally. Her mouth refused to say the words she wanted, her outstretched hand remained perfectly still. A paralysis spell? But how? There was no one in sight but the two of them! She struggled against it, but no matter how hard she tried to budge, she would remain in place, frozen as a statue.

The moment where she and Emiri said goodbye replayed right in front of her. For some reason, Emiri looked much more depressed than what she remembered. Or was it that she hadn't noticed? She watched as she would hug her, though to her surprise, she didn't hear anything she had said. Instead, she would hear Emiri herself as if she was whispering into her ear: At least one of us believed it. I'm going to end up ruining everything, aren't I...?

The scene around her changed, instead showing Utena Hospital. She had gone so many times that she recognized it instantly, though she was shocked to see Emiri standing in front of her father. She had an empty look on her face, and Nadeline let out a gasp as the girl would raise her arms. Within seconds, Lord Andre would breathe, though Karolina would come and wrench her away. Once again she could not hear her mother's words, instead only being able to hear Emiri's thoughts at the moment: I did it! He's better, he's awake! It worked...it really worked!

Now they were in the streets of Stigma, and Nadeline was shocked to see Aloa, Vlyn, and Shion in front of Emiri, doing battle. What was happening?! Why were they fighting?! She opened her mouth to protest, though she felt like she was getting swallowed by bloodthirst. Was this how Emiri felt? Nadeline almost mimicked Emiri's laugh, but she clutched her head. Emiri's voice whispered into her ear: They can't stop me! No one can stop me!

Why was she seeing all this? She was getting overwhelmed by Emiri's own emotions and thoughts that her head pulsed and caused her pain. Thoughts and feelings that weren't hers seemed to come in one after another, and without realizing it, Nadeline had dropped down to her knees.

I don't understand, it hurts, it hurts so much...

Get married? Why? I don't want to marry without my Papa. And I wanted Mother to be there, too.

Of all the things to say, why would you tell me this, Karolina? Papa is better now! I fixed him!

They all left me behind. Am I that much of a burden?

Jaakuna...you said you'd never leave my side...so why did you leave me?! Why?! Don't abandon me again! Please! I can't take it! I don't want to be alone anymore!

No one cares about me. All I ever did was cause trouble.

"Stop...!" was the only word Nadeline was able to mutter out loud. She was essentially on the ground in a fetal position, clutching her head tightly.

Keiran opened his eyes in surprise. Was that truly his master's wishes? How silly, of course they were, he knew that Mist from anywhere. No, what surprised him more was the direction where his master would order him to go. How strange, it was in the opposite direction. Was He there? No, something else must have been. Understanding his new objective, he would shake Emiri's shoulder, telling her, "Time to wake up." Emiri's eyes fluttered open, though rather than the magenta hue they had become, instead they were closer to a darker, almost pale violet red. She would look at him, and after letting out a yawn, she would stand.

"Sun's not so bad anymore," She mumbled as she would rub her eye, though she noticed Keiran's expression. "What is it?"

Keiran outright stared at her for a moment, though he would tear his gaze away from her and look out into the distance. "You should be able to feel it by now. There's something out there, isn't there?"

What was he talking about? Emiri squinted in the direction he was looking, as if to get visual confirmation, though she saw nothing. She looked at him again, though let out a sigh. "What is it that you sense?"

"I don't know. Let's go see--although..." He would stop, raising a hand over Emiri's head. She let out a gasp of surprise as her clothes would revert to normal, albeit her normally beige dress was now black in color. "To keep you cool, that little getup of yours was dragging you down."

She pouted, though she would follow suit nonetheless.

The plan had gone rather smoothly at the beginning. While Zeromus and Mateus provided a distraction, one in which that seemed to be completely one-sided. Even with the amount of magick-users, high-tech machinery, and various hunters of all sizes and experience, they were no match for two Scions of Darkness.

When it came to Zeromus, those who were heavy or light did not stand any chance, for they were hit with the Esper’s gravity spell almost instantaneously. If they did not succumb to the pressure, then they would be flung almost a mile in the opposite direction. This esper made quick work of them.

And if there were any that remained, MAteus would be right behind Zeromus, freezing all that stood. They came at him in numbers and in numbers they fell either through the swing of the trident that Mateus wielded or through the frigid winds he cast upon them with his free hand. Mateus of the Scions of Darkness, the Corrupt, had deemed those machines, those men who sought to harm his Summoner and her lover. For that, if by the grace of the gods he forsakened long ago, he shall strike them down for it is his will. And Mateus’ will shall be obeyed.

As the Espers had proven to take their role of distracting the mass of the first wave of forces, Savayna and Grant were able to get closer to the temple, whcih Savayna deduced was where the leader of this entire Brotherhood was at. But still, Savayna had to admit that this was all a lot of hoopla for just one temple. She understood it was a refugee camp and The Brotherhood Hunting Guild wasn’t exactly one for ethics or morals. Savayna knew they were savages. But if you were to ask her if attacking this one mountainside in the bulk that they did was worth it, you’d get a big fat ‘no’ in response.

Regardless how she felt, Savayna and Grant made it. They were a mere fifty paces from the temple. However, as luck would have it, by the time they did, the spell had run off. “Shit.” Savayna said at the same moment the spell had ended.

Her outburst almost cost them as a Brotherhood hunter turned around. “Did you hear that?” One of the hunters asked the one beside him. The one that just spoke was bulky and had a spiked mohawk of red and blue; looked to be a Bangaa. The one next to him had a lean build. Skin was fair and hair copper toned. He was Hume.

“You’re hearing things, B’Darmon.”

“You best not be calling the tea kettle black, Petyr.”

“And what if I am? Are you going to do about it, B’Darmon?”

“Well, for starters, I’ll wipe that smirk off your face. Then, I’ll pound you so hard into the gorund, you’ll be even uglier. Lastly, I’ll tell everyone how you got yourself captured by one lowly Sky Pirate. How do you —”

Both stopped as they felt a hand on each of their shoulders. Savayna couldn’t control her curiosity. She peeked her head out from behind the wall her and Grant were. Who she saw made her jaw hang down.

“Is there a problem?” the man asked.

“No sir!”

“No sir!”

“Good. Then, stop gossiping like a bunch of teenaged Humes, and remain alert. There are two gigantic monsters attacking our forces at the front gate. We need to be on high alert!”

I can’t believe he’s here.” Savayna muttered, though it was loud enough for Grant to hear. “Of all people..

Savayna felt something quell within her gut. She didn’t know if it was a nostalgic warmth or frigid anger. It was very confusing, but what she knew for sure was that waiting around for something to happen was getting her nowhere. And he was getting away. The best she could do was tail him. But those two have to be dealt with.

I’m gonna charge. Back me up.” Savayna said.

She knew Grant wasn’t going to like this, but she followed his lead long enough. These two had to go, and she had to be quick about it. Based on where he was, Savayna had just about three seconds for each of them and still have the chance of following him.

As she stepped own, flowing along a trail of Mist that responded to her urgency, Savayna had covered ten paces in one second. The two, who were back to bickering, hadn’t noticed her. By the time she covered another ten paces, they had noticed her, but it was too late. Savayna froze them where they stood with a Blizzaga spell. After that, she heel kicked them both in the side of the head, her legs doing the splits as she did so, sending both in opposite directions of each other. The Bangaa was sent flying off the edge of the walkway, rolling down the hill to join the beasts on Paramara Rift, while the other - the hume - was simply sent flying through a series of bushes, landing hard against a building. Savayna assumed he was unconscious.

And after the dust settled, Savayna looked around, and spotted the leader. He had just turned a corner. She looked back to Grant, signalling him to follow her, though like before, she would take off before giving him a chance to respond.

After a moment or two had passed, Wesley found himself on his feet. As soon as he did, however, he looked at Nadeline. For whatever reason, she couldn’t move. Did she too feel the Mist? Wesley thought that for a moment, but no, something was…off. Something in his gut told him so. This was exactly how Wesley was just a moment ago. But Nadeline hadn’t sensed that putrid Mist, so why was she--

And then suddenly she screamed as loud as she could, alerting WEsley to kneal to his fiance. The way she shivered, the way she was clenching her head, it was just like...No, I won’t allow that to come true. WEsley shook his head profusely, and then put his hands on Nadeline’s shoulders. He tried shaking her, but it wasn’t working. She remained in the same position, hands still clutching her head. “Talk to me, Nadeilne. What’s wrong?” Wesley said. His voice was urgent, desperate. He wanted to get her to talk to him. “If you can’t, then just focus on my voice. You’re going to be okay. You’re going to be fine.” Wesley tried anything he could to get her to her.

Once again, Savayna seemed to know something he wasn’t aware of. Once again, she would run ahead without giving him a second thought. Once again, Grant found himself following her trail, mentally questioning what the hell he was doing with his life where it had gotten to the point that Savayna repeatedly kept him in the dark. How hard would a signal be? Or at least a ‘follow me’? Was it because she considered it urgent, or was it that his own opinions didn’t matter? Before he could protest, she had already gone off, and he would remain in the shadows, lest he end up getting caught himself. The pair were taken care of, and she would finally give him a signal to follow, though before he could ask what the hell was going on, she would take off.

It was good that no one was around to hear Grant’s mumblings as he would complain about the situation. It was truly getting tiresome, though he hoped at the very least it would all be worth it. On the other hand, figuring out exactly why these people had set up a blockade was in his own interest, so he would comply with Savayna. For now.

The wind was gone for a moment. It was rather strange, as Emiri had just started getting used to it sweeping sand into her face repeatedly, but everything was still. It was also quiet, almost peaceful, though she knew better than that. The elementals seemed to go out of their way to avoid her as she walked, giving her quite the satisfaction, though she still had yet to see what Keiran wanted her to notice. Speaking of which, said boy had gotten awfully quiet all things considered. He would only gesture for her to keep going anytime she would look at him, though it was getting old.

The gods knew Nadeline tried to listen to Wesley, boy did she ever, but she felt the full brunt of the attack unwillingly. Why was she seeing all this? Why now? Who was behind it? What had Emiri done? Her own thoughts seemed to mix into the mess, and as hard as she tried, she couldn’t quite snap out of it. Was she going to be driven insane? That much seemed to be happening, though it was happening quite painfully. It was then an unfamiliar glyph appeared beneath her, one she only recognized because she had seen it recently. She recognized it as Ultima’s, and before she knew it, Emiri’s thoughts had silenced and faded away, leaving Nadeline alone. She let out a massive sigh of relief, though she remained still.

“It wouldn’t do for you to lose your mind, you still have much to do,” Ultima said simply, almost chiding her.

I’m in your debt,” Nadeline replied somewhat bitterly, relaxing her hands as she looked at Wesley. “Forgive me, I…I do not know what happened or what that was, but I fear something terrible has happened.” She told him, shaking her head, though something in the distance would catch her eye. It almost looked like someone was approaching them, though as they would near, Nadeline’s eyes widened. “Have I gone mad, or is that…?

Emiri would stop before them, a good ten feet or so away, her black dress billowing as the wind would pick up once more. Keiran had chosen to hang back, out of sight, though he would be sure to watch the situation carefully. Now he understood what his master wanted; he wanted them to meet, didn’t he? He watched Emiri carefully, trying to gauge her reaction.

The blonde princess would stand, trying to understand the sight before her. Emiri should have been in Stigma—no, then all those visions she had were in fact reality? She was confused, though she somehow knew that she wasn’t quite hallucinating. Emiri stared at the pair, a rather blank expression on her face, and it was then Nadeline felt something was…off with her. Her usually tied up hair hung loose around her, her normally violet eyes were closer to a violet-red.

Nadeline took a step back, shaking her head. Everything she had seen was true. Emiri had fought with Shion, attacked Vlyn and Aloa. But why? What was happening?

Emiri raised both her arms at the pair, as if welcoming them. “We meet again, Highnesses,” She said, bowing deeply.

Savayna had occasionally looked behind her to see where Grant was. Sure enough, after a while, he was right behind her. There was a point where she was several paces ahead of him. That was due to the simple fact that she almost lost the Captain of the Brotherhood, or so she assumed. She didn’t know why he was here, the man that had a face she couldn’t forget.

How could she forget that face: the near-perfect cheekbones, the short yet stylish beige-colored hair, and icy-blue eyes like her own. How could she forget that face that she spent so many years looking at. Growing up in Glacier Village, that was the face that she saw every day. Whenever she would wake up from slumber, she saw that face just mere paces from her bed. When she would go for a walk, that face was with her, making sure she didn’t get lost in the sometimes-three-yard-high snow that Glacier Village got on harsh winters. Whenever she would go hunting for supper, that face was always with her to make sure she aimed her arrows at the game perfectly. He made sure that she killed the beast but did not make it suffer.

Indeed, Savayna didn’t expect to see him here. To her last memory fifteen years ago, he was dead.

As Savayna saw the man she and Grant had been following stop in front of the temple, she saw Grant finally catch up to her after that last jolt of running she did just moments prior. When she felt his arm against hers, she breathed in.

Over the next minute or so, Savayna would peek her head out from behind the wall, seeing what he was doing. All of the five times she did that, she saw he was talking with some guards. Same outfit as the ones before: a combination of loose pants, vest and shirt combo, a hat or bandana, and a weapon of their choice. All of those, however, were inscribed with the symbol of The Brotherhood.

I know you’re growing tired of this, so let me tell you who that guy is,” Savayna said, trying to keep her voice as low as possible, “that man over there, though you wouldn’t believe it by how young he looks, is far older than he appears. The great Glacier of the Archadian Army. Compared to him, I was nothing. He was the true Ice General. Powerful. Convincing in both strength and how he commanded his troops. He also had the Darcone’s respect, so that’s something to consider. But after a while, his strength dwindled. And instead of trying to be a better person, he decided to —” Savayna was interrupted by the sight of a firaga coming hurling towards them from opposite of the temple.

Savayna put her hand in front, “Shellga!” She called out. The spell would wrap her and Grant in brilliant, blue light. It would protect them from the Firaja that hit them both, engulfing the two in a red blaze. The confrontation between the two spells met a deadlock for a brief moment, but then Savayna heard someone call out “Faithga!”

And in that instant, Savayna could feel the flames overpowering her Shellga spell. It was enhanced so much that the firaga not only broke her spell, but it sent both her and Grant flying through the wall, and into the direction of the man they’d been following.

Well, so much for stealth, huh?” Savayna said through the pain she felt from the blast and the rough landing.

Savayna Glacie. And Grant Roselia too?” The man said. “Well this must be my lucky day.” the man said, stepping down from the concrete steps he was on.

Savayna got up, though she struggled a bit. She was finally able to get to her feet, pulling Grant up as well. Little did she realize that they had become surrounded by about a dozen men, mages, and machines. “Sorry Grant, I guess we’ll have to do this the old fashioned way.” Savayna said, sorry but not sorry for what had happened.

What? You’re not going to introduce me?” The man said, stepping closer to the crowd of men and machines that surrounded the two royalty of Ivalice. “Grant Roselia, it’s an honor to make your acquaintance.” He said, looking at Grant. He judged his expression. “I’m going to assume that, by this blank expression on your face, that Savayna here told you nothing about me?” He shook his head, “oh my darling, Savayna, how you disappoint me,” he cocked a smile, “well allow me to introduce myself. “ He coughed, as if wanting to build anticipation. “My name is Atticus Frost, though to Savayna, I was known as Atticus Glacie, her darling father.

Savayna grumbled something under her breath. “Now you know why I didn’t want to come.

Damn that Mist. First it rendered Wesley unable to walk without assistance, now it paralyzed his beloved with horror in her eyes. He had never seen her like that, not even when Lola had them trapped in those nightmares. This was something entirely different. And WEsley was powerless to stop it. Thankfully, it seemed as though Ultima came through for her in the end. Though, Wesley wondered what took her. He didn’t dare insult the High Seraph, but he couldn’t help but feel that she took her sweet time.

Careful with thoughts, WEsley. She can hear you.

Wesley gulped, only fearing what she would do to him. Or worse, what she wouldn’t do. Now that was a thought that frightened me.

He shook his head, eyes closed. As he would reopen them, Wesley saw what Nadeline saw. Not only that, but he heard what Nadeline heard. A familar voice that he thought was back at Stigma, but she was here. “Emiri?!” Wesley was shocked to see her here. “What are you —

Oh no, what was that I sense? It’s that Mist. and it was coming from Emiri. No, that’s not right. It was more like it was just a pace behind her, like a shadow or a guardian devil of sorts. It was like..

As Wesley was putting the pieces together, he saw Nadeline step forward. On instinct, Wesley stopped her. His stepped in front of her. He looked at Emiri with clenched eyebrows. “You may be able to fool Nadeline, but you can’t fool me.” Wesley said, arms glowing ethereal white and orange, much like when he was first given The Order Seal. “Come out or I’ll force you out.” Wesley threatened.

Glory to the gods, Savayna was finally going to fill him in! Too bad they got caught, and as Grant was looking upwards, stars spinning in his eyes from getting literally knocked through a wall, he couldn’t help but feel that somewhere out there, the gods were enjoying toying with him. He couldn’t help but lament the fact that he hadn’t seen the spell coming at all; he had gotten much too excited that Savayna was going to tell him something, anything, so he let his guard down. As he was addressed, he realized Savayna was pulling him to his feet. Boy, did he hit his head heard, though he forced himself to focus as the man before him would speak.

On the surface, Grant was as calm and collected as ever—he would attribute years of discipline to this. After all, a prince was expected to be able to make decisions under the most dire of circumstances. Still, he found himself shocked when the man introduced himself as Atticus Frost—better yet, as Atticus Glacie. As Savayna would reprimand him for wanting to come, he would very briefly give her a look, though he would focus on the matter at hand. They were surrounded, and they didn’t look like the type to just let them walk away freely.

It took Grant every fiber of his being not to smile and say ‘Hey look, we ended up finding him anyway!’ but this was neither the time or place. Though in all fairness, had he known her father would be a dangerous looking fellow who had an entire force under his command, he could have reconsidered it. Maybe. Either way, this was a prickly situation they were in.

A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Mr…” He almost said ‘Glacie, though he was sure Savayna would probably stab him in retaliation. “…Frost. Quite the setup you have around here, though the many refugees you’ve chased out of Mt. Bur-Omisace are hardly appreciative.

Emiri lowered her arms, a disappointed look on her face. She looked back at Keiran, who would give her a shrug, though she would focus back on Wesley and Nadeline. That was definitely a threat, though she was more than sure he didn’t have it in him to apprehend him—or rather, he didn’t have it in him to get through Emiri to get to him. The dark haired youth would comply as he would reveal himself, resting his elbow on Emiri’s shoulder as he would look at the prince curiously.

“How very rude, I’m not fooling anyone,” Keiran stated rather haughtily, looking at the pair with a frown. “I thought it’d be nice for you all to meet up again, but the thought has gone unappreciated. Especially after she was left behind by you lot. Though it’s funny, I assumed you’d continue straight to Dalmasca, but your honor brought you here, didn’t it, Wesley?”

Nadeline shook her head at him, though she wasn’t sure who was more of a threat—the unknown man, or Emiri, especially after what she had seen. There was definitely something wrong, but what was it? Was he controlling her? Was that how he knew Wesley’s name despite this surely being the first time they had met? “It is our duty to ensure the safety of the people,” She stated, not liking how quiet or comfortable Emiri was with this man.

He is the reason Chaos is silent. Ultima would whisper to Nadeline. Be wary, for he is not the only foe before you.

Emiri let out a small sigh, staring wistfully at the sand. “They don’t care about me anymore, they wouldn’t be happy to see me,” She said, a sad tone in her voice. “Oh well. We should carry on, then.

What was she talking about? And like hell was Nadeline about to let her go off with this man! “Emiri, that’s not it at all! You were supposed to be in Stigma, but you…you—!” The princess hesitated, for a moment, though she could no longer deny what she had seen. “You’ve lost it again, haven’t you?! You attacked Aloa in Stigma!

Keiran’s eyes widened. How did she know that? He looked over at Emiri, who seemed to be remembering something. “Shion started it, and the viera chose to intervene…as did your mother,” Emiri corrected her very seriously, though a smile would play on her lips. “Then you know that I won the battle, right? Not even Shion could stand in my way…and now, I can get my revenge.

Nadeline narrowed her eyes, though she would back away from Wesley as she stared at Keiran. He must have been controlling her somehow. There was no way the girl would do any of that of her own volition. Withdrawing her rapier, she earned surprised look from both Emiri and Keiran. “You’d draw a weapon on your friend? A bit harsh, isn’t it?” Keiran asked as he would take his arm off Emiri.

I see the puppetmaster before me and I will cut your strings behind Emiri’s actions!” Nadeline announced, pointing her rapier at Keiran.

Keiran laughed, though he would take a step back as he looked at Emiri. “She wants to pick a fight with you! Hey, Prince, you think this is a good idea?”

How long must we wait?” Jaakuna scoffed loudly.

Three hours they have been waiting. Three hours the quad group of Jackson, Reia, Lorenzo, and Nila had been waiting for an audience with his Eminence. When it was decided that Nila would come along, they rushed towards Roman’s office, but his assistant - Anya, her name was. A pretty thing. She had sandy hair, dimmed red eyes, and a decent complexion. She had the usual Archadian accent, though it was Northern Archadian, so it wasn’t as clearcut. She told them that Roman was very busy. He had meetings all day. Even when Jaakuna told him who he was, she said there was nothing they could do. Even when Reia and Lorenzo tried, they met the same answer.

More minutes would pass and Jaakuna had brought himself deep in thought. His eyes narrowed down at the ground, he moved his lips but nothing was said vocally. Why had Roman not recieved us at the Aerodome? Why was there a representative from grandfather? Why did it seem that denying his escort was something bad? Why did Grandfather not receive us when we arrived?

Hey bucko!” Nila nudged Jaakuna.

JAakuna flinched. “Oh, sorry.” Jaakuna apologized uncharacteristically.

You look like you were contemplating something rather intense.

I was just thinking.

Oh god, we all know what happens when you start thinking.

Jaakuna said nothing in response, he simply continued what he was saying. “I was thinking about how the three of us got here, and there was an Archadian Soldier sent to us from my Grandfather. He said he was going to escort us here. When we denied him, he acted as though it wasn’t a request.” JAakuna said, biting on his thumb. “Then there’s the fact that, when I called Roman earlier, Grandfather Hamut answered.” he said.

You’re just overthinking it. I’m sure nothing is amiss. Even if it is, Roman won’t let that happen.

I guess so.

Even if she was right, there was something that Jaakuna couldn’t quite shake off. Call it a gut feeling, but he didn’t like this one bit.

And yours as well, Prince Grant of Rozarria.” Atticus smiled, curling it into a smirk when Grant called him ‘Frost’. Obviously he feared Savayna more than he did the improper way to address a man you had just met. “I’ve heard a lot about you. I am to understand that you were engaged to the Lady Emelia Inabi, correct? The daughter - albeit fractured beyond reproach daughter - of an esteemed general of the Rozarrian army. Seems as though that’s your type.” Atticus mused, laughing lightly.

Savayna gritted his teeth. “And what’s that supposed to mean, you bastard?

Well, just look at you, Savy,” Atticus gestured to her, “you went from being promised to one Archadian Prince to marrying another who, after killing his father —

He didn’t kill Emperor Simon. It was a false claim.

Yes, I’m sure it is,” he mused again, “—but he went on the run after that, leaving you a broken mess. And then, after all those years of being on the run, he gets himself involved with that Inabi girl. And here we are. ” His arms were wide open, “You are now with another prince.” Atticus said, “I wonder, will he abandon you like the others? Since you are a cursed child, I am quite sure he will..” Atticus said.

Oh, like you did to my mother.” Savayna snarled, eyes flashing crystal blue.

Atticus mused nonverbally. “I see. So it’s close, isn’t it?” Atticus looked to Grant. “Oh, I apologize, Grant, I never actually did comment about those refugees, did I? How rude of me.” He feigned regret. “They don’t matter. None of them do, not with Zodiark out and about.

Savayna was surprised. How did he--

Let me stop you right there.” Atticus said, freaking out Savayna even more. “You’re wondering how did I know about Zodiark?” Atticus stepepd forward once more, gesturing those surrounding Grant and Savayna to back away. “Be gone.” They dispersed, giving Atticus the alone time with Grant and Savayna he willed.

Prince Grant, you assume I’m the leader because why? I have these insignificant pests following my commands? I can see how you would think that. But no, I am simply one step on the chain of command. There is another who is above my position. This person —” Atticus heard the doors of the temple open. “Speak of the devil and she shall appear.”

As the doors opened, Savayna watched intently. Though shadowy at first, as the figure would step into the light, it became clear. Who the person was, how Atticus had known about Zodiark -it all became clear when Savayna saw that face, the hair, the armor..

Well isn’t this a surprise, “ she said, “Prince Grant and General Glacie here. And at the right time too.

Master Leviathan, I told you I could handle it. There was no need to —

Nonsense. I live for reunions, as I’m sure your sweet daughter was thrilled to see you again, as I’m sure the Prince here is thrilled to see me again.” Levi said, stepping close to Grant, hand on his cheek. Savayna didn’t like that, but Levi’s other hand would tighten and Savayna was stick in place. “How is my favorite Rozarrian?” Levi hissed seductively. She curled a dangerous smile, tongue moistening her lips.

As he stepped forward, WEsley had eyes on the boy behind Emiri. He knew what he must do: kill the boy so Emiri could be freed. But that would be a bit more difficult than he had hoped. Emiri, as Nadeline had said, was being controlled by this person. Wesley raised his hand once more in front of Nadeline. “Let me handle this.” Wesley said. He knew he would get resistance from her, so he looked at her, colors of orange dancing in his irises. No doubt she caught wind of Wesley’s intention.

Wesley never took his eyes off of the man. He was gauging him while also planning his next couple of moves. He could dart straight, knock out Emiri, and go for him in the same movement, but if that one was responsible for the Mist he had been feeling all day, then that was easier said than done. But what alternative did he have?

There is another course of action, Wesley. Hashmaal said, let Nadeline handle Emiri.

But she won’t be able to handle it much longer.

Better than the alternative of you suffering from a two-on-one assault.

Wesley had to admit that was a better plan than him trying to do it solo. “Very well,” wesley said, “Nadeline, do you think you can separate Emiri from that abomination long enough for me to strike?” WEsley asked.gripping his Yagyu Darkblade that had been surrounded by a strong mist field of white and orange.

Reia didn't like where this was going, not one bit. She listened to Jaakuna as she sat, her chin high as she would bring her usual air of grace. Still, there was no hiding any of what Jaakuna mentioned, and it actually made her nervous. No, she was already nervous; treading on the grounds of another country wracked her nerves more than she wanted to admit, and this simply proved to shake her up moreso than usual. Letting out a small sigh, she would look at Jaakuna pointedly. It wasn't that she blamed him per se, but if soldiers were to suddenly come in and assassinate them all, it would be his fault.

Lorenzo, on the other hand, didn't seem as concerned as Reia or Jaakuna. He was pretty relaxed all things considered, humming a low tune quietly as he would tap his knee. He knew Reia was nervous, but he figured paying no mind to it would help rather than harm. If he would try to assuage her, it would simply feed into her fear. He did, however, let out a loud yawn, instead deciding to focus on Jaakuna.

"Hopefully we'll hear something soon, getting bored," He admitted rather nonchalantly, and Jaakuna would see where Nadeline would get it from.

The what now?

It was public knowledge that Emiri and Grant were once betrothed, though he couldn't fathom how Frost knew all those details. It did shock him, but Grant remained at the ready. Yes, he knew a lot, but what was he really after? It was clear now that he almost wanted them there, but for what purpose? Had they run into a trap? Or was it just coincidence? It had to have been something else--especially when the topic of Zodiark came up, though their questions would much too quickly be answered, and Grant's face hardened as she would walk in through the door, waltzing around, parading herself.

Damn snake.

Grant had half a mind to smack her hand away, though it was out of growing up better that it didn't happen. He stared at Levi with cold eyes, though he would let out a scoff as she would mention him being glad to see her. "Who wouldn't want to see the very snake that had left him for dead at the hands of an enemy Empire?" He asked, sarcasm dripping with every word as he would take her hand and softly push it away from his face. For just a split second, he had to tear his eyes away from her lips, and he felt ashamed to do so. Stupid woman and her stupid seductiveness. "Though I fear the thrill is completely one sided. I admit my surprise at seeing you of all people here, though I'm not surprised to see you under Zodiark--or is that only until you find something better?"

Keiran clucked his tongue in disapproval, a finger on his lower lip as he eyed the couple before him. He didn't like the look of Wesley's magicks, nor did he want to see them in action. How should he go about doing this? Keiran preferred strategy over battles, though hedoubted Wesley would let him sit on the sidelines while Emiri would battle them both. Speaking of the girl, he wasn't quite sure if she would be able to do combat with an ally. Was this what his master also desired to see? If that was the case, then Keiran needed to do his part as well. Nodding to himself, he looked over at the brunette, who hadn't taken her eyes off the pair.

The boy leaned over, an arm over her shoulders as he pulled her to him. "Come now, Your Highness, this girl doesn't want to fight!" He said, comforting Emiri. "She just wants you to understand her sorrow, is that too much to ask?"

To his surprise, Emiri would pull herself away from him, an uncharacteristically angry look on her face. "They don't care about my pain. So long as they get to live in their 'Happily Ever After', everything else is just an afterthought," She said, darkness seeping out from her. "As long as they're happy, why would they give a damn about anything?!"

Nadeline actually took a step back. The darkness was coming from Emiri? No, it couldn't be! But it was true, and Nadeline witnessed it firsthand. Keiran let out a chuckle as he would step back, seemingly falling, but instead he would sit in midair. He would snap his fingers, a great pool of darkness forming behind Emiri. A giant claw would reach forth and grab the ground, pulling itself out of the darkness and revealing itself. It let out a rather loud, ear-piercing roar, flapping its wings as it would take to the sky. Emiri herself would summon her sword, her clothes changing into her rather flashy and rather revealing set, and she would hold her head high, her crown glinting in the sunlight.

There was no time to hesitate as the creature would roar once more, swinging its claw and sending out a literal wave of darkness. Nadeline leapt over it, charging her sword with magick as she would run towards Emiri. The brunette had a rather wicked grin on her face, bringing her blade down as Nadeline would swing, and their weapons would clash and erupt, darkness versus fire. Nadeline skidded backwards from the explosion, though she would jump back as Emiri emerged from the explosion unharmed, swinging her blade with such a force that the darkness left behind a trail with every swing.

If I keep her occupied long enough until Wesley can make a decisive blow, we may have a chance, She told her Esper as she would parry an attack and go for the counter, though she was dismayed when Emiri dodged it with ease. She let out a gasp as Emiri lunged at her, her sword barely missing her face, and she stumbled slightly. If she doesn't slice me to ribbons first, that is.

You act as though I’ve wronged you, Princey.” Levi said, removing herself from Grant’s personal circumference. “Sure, you might’ve went through some bad patches over the past months, but I think it was for the better, don’t you agree?” Levi gestured to Savayna, “I mean, just look at where you’re at: you’re as close to Savayna’s home as you’re going to get - and no, I don’t mean Archadia. I mean your real home of Glacier Village. And you got to meet her father.” Levi looked at him. “So, tell me, Grant, what exactly do you have to complain about?

Savayna reached forth to grab Levi’s dark, kinky hair. She got a fist of it, and she punched Levi in the face with her free hand. Levi let her do it on purpose, as it was obvious by how she licked her lips when that punch drew black...blood? What the hell?!

Jaakuna wasn’t usually a patient man. Actually, he never had been very patient, but circumstances demanded he swallow his usual tendencies, and wait with the others like a good boy. Oh how he hated being that boy scout. Just once he would like something to happen that didn’t involve overthinking and getting his ass numb.

And suddenly, he heard steel meet marble floors. It sounded like marching. Several steps from the sounds of it. JAakuna looked over and saw about a dozen of Archadian soldiers. All of them were armed, all of them had guns out, and all of them walking over where the four of them sat. For a moment, Jaakuna had hoped they were going to Roman’s office, but his hopes sunk into the sea of dread when they stopped right in front of them.

Um, can we help you?

They stepped aside, letting someone through. It was Isaiah. “Oh, JAckson.” he said, as if not expecting to see him. “They hadn’t told me you were here. And Nila too? Well, howdy.”

What’s going on?

Isaiah sighed, “unfortunate orders, I’m afraid.

Orders?

Empress Reia Alexandria Roselia, Prince Lorenzo Jeremiah Roselia, by decree of His Eminence, the Emperor Roman Darcone, I hereby place you under arrest on the charges of espionage and conspiracy against our Emperor’s life.” Isaiah said, pulling out his sword, “please come willingly. I have been permitted to use force if needbe.

Isaiah, what the hell?!” Jaakuna stood up, shouting. “You can’t do this!

Jakson, if you interfere, I have been instructed to arrest any and all who get in the way,” Isaiah said, sounding as if he had no choice in the matter. “That includes the crown prince of Archadia.

Jaakuna didn’t know what was happening. He didn’t understand it at all. He couldn’t just stand back and let it happen.

Wesley, guided by Hashmaal’s will, dashed forward towards the beast. It was the perfect chance for him to strike.

While Nadeline had Emiri’s attention, Wesley would seize the moment. With his blade poised in both hands,Wesley willed his Order Seal to cast a trifecta of Protectga, Shellga, and Faith, while gathering remnants of Haste. As he did that, his movements were increased almost twice as much, almost to the point where Wesley was able to leap to the skies, and slash at the beast with surgical precision. The blade, which had been surrounded by his purifying mist, surrounded both of the two in a field of white.

Beast of darkness, by the decree of the Bringer of Order, I, Wesley of the House Alexander, bring order to your existence.” WEsley raised his blade. Mist gathered around him and above teh two. “Regio Julcio!” Wesley’s voice echoed in a layered effect, almost as if Hashmaal was speaking through him. And in that same moment, the god’s might was felt as purifying bolts of pearl and gold pierced through the beast, damning him to his worse nightmare.

When the field dispersed, Wesley looked ahead, and saw the beast, while still standing, was crying with screams of agony. It wouldn’t be long until his existence ceased.

As concerning as the black blood was, Grant couldn't help but have his focus elsewhere. All this information they were getting, how exactly had they come by it? It was almost as if they had had an eye on their activities, as if someone had told them everything about them. But it wasn't possible--he even neglected to tell the rest of the group why they were going their own way. So how did Levi know about all that? For a moment, she reminded him greatly of Lola, who 'had her own way' of getting information about them. Was there a possibility that the pair were working together? The thought was enough to make him raise his eyebrows, though he wouldn't give Levi the satisfaction.

"Selling me out to an Emperor to have me hanged may count as wronging me," Grant pointed out, though he eyed her carefully. Now that he recalled, that black blood was similar to the blood those demonic looking entities had bled back when they had gone out in Archades. So Levi really was working for Zodiark--and had gotten more than her fair share of power from him, it seemed. "The better question is what you will do now, your movements and involvements are as unpredictable as ever."

Espionage and conspiring against another Emperor? How bitterly familiar that sounded--though it was Roland who had those exact charges. Reia would've laughed had the situation not turned so dire, though she couldn't help but raise en eyebrow at the judge. How boys loved to play the authoritative figure, especially without so much as a spec of proof. She had never met Roman, much less conspire against him, but during his reign as Marquis of Bhujerba, she had heard a lot about him. So much so, that she was fully aware these charges were little more than obvious lies. Hamut was likely the culprit--the only reason she couldn't quite guess was why.

Unfortunately for her, Lorenzo was less than calm. The blonde man looked positively offended, and would stand, each gun cocked and aimed at him as he would place his hands on his hips. "The hell you talking about?! We just got here with Jaakie and we're being arrested for no good reason?" He scoffed, clearly annoyed. "Why is it that anytime someone tries to do something good, someone else has to come along and fuck it up, huh?!"

Indeed. Reia wholeheartedly agreed, though she was glad to see that, at least, they didn't target Jaakuna or Nila. She did, however, find it a bit strange that they accused Lorenzo as well. Wasn't she enough? Reia would slowly rise from her seat, a hand on Lorenzo's shoulder as she would force him to sit back down. "That'll do, my brother, but there's no point in resisting on my part," She stated, lightly brushing out the wrinkles in her sleeve. "However, Judge Ixion, you are mistaken. Under the decree of your conspiracy laws regarding outside influences of those non-Archadian born, section four, sub-article sixty-two, a foot regarding specifically those of royal blood not belonging to any house of Archadia--including Rozarria, Dalmasca, and other fallen countries--as long as you have proof of the accused's royal bearing, only the reigning Emperor--Empress, in my case--is to be held responsible for any and all crimes against Archadia," She stated, almost rambling as she would flick her earring, giving it a glow. "I hold here the Eye of Roselia, proof of my heritage. In layman's terms...I will take sole responsibility of your accusations."

Lorenzo almost opened his mouth to retort, though he knew exactly where this was going. If this was a legitimate claim, Ixion would take her and only her. If this was something fabricated, Ixion would ignore her--either claiming the laws had been updated (something that so rarely happened these days) or saying any other reason--and take both her and Lorenzo. The man briefly took a look at Jaakuna, wondering if he was paying attention. Still, what would happen next would depend entirely on what Ixion would choose to do.

Keiran watched Wesley intently, his left eye a glowing red as he studied his movements. He seemed to have a good handle on his Order Seal, this much he would admit, though the prince had been talented before receiving it. A truly shining example of a descendant of the Dynast King, and Keiran may have even congratulated the man. Still, now wasn't the time for that, and his master had yet to send him another order, so he would keep his attention for now. The beast was on its last legs, but everyone knew that the time when any living being was most dangerous was when it knew it was going to die. The beast's inner core would glow ominously, a sickly green color protruding from it. It seemed to still have at least one more trick up its sleeve as it would take flight once more, albeit barely keeping itself off the ground. Roaring once more as the core would become more erratic, it simply flew towards Wesley, intending to take him in a kamikaze attack.

Meanwhile, Nadeline was struggling. There had been a time in the past where she and Emiri were just about even in swordsmanship, but now, it took everything she had just to avoid getting stabbed, and even then, the numerous cuts on her body showed just how far behind she had fallen. Emiri was now faster, stronger, and more honed, though she was unsure if it was because of their travels, because of the dark powers boosting her abilities, or a combination of both. She had to admit the girl was certainly keeping her on her toes, though she had a feeling that Emiri was just toying with her. Why did she not land a decisive strike? Was the old Emiri still in there? Or was this just a clever ruse so that the moment she let her guard down she would go in for the kill?

Their blades clashed and locked with one another, Nadeline gripping her rapier with two hands, though she nearly cried when she saw Emiri pushing back with only one hand. Those violet-red eyes of hers were crazed, yet sharp, a determination she had never seen before etched in her face. "You're slipping, Princess. I suppose you've come to rely on your Prince far more than you should," Emiri's voice was a quiet taunt, though her lips would smile. "I understand...I was weak, too. I let my sorrow consume me...and now, I'm even better than before."

Nadeline glared at her. "I believed in you, I believed you would not give in to the darkness," She snapped. "What a fool I was. The only weak one between the two of us is you."

Emiri didn't like that, and while her expression didn't change, the fact that she pushed back harder definitely gave it away to Nadeline. "Shion couldn't hold me! Aloa couldn't cleanse me! What makes you think a spoiled princess like you has any way over me?!" Emiri growled, annoyed as she sent Nadeline's blade to the ground. The princess was caught off guard, and would come to regret it as Emiri would kick her square in the stomach. That wonderful feeling of losing all the air in your chest following shortly afterwards, though Nadeline threw herself to the side to avoid Emiri's dark blast. Scrambling to her feet, she barely dodged the first strike, but was unlucky with the second, letting out a cry of pain as Emiri's sword sliced through her arm. The brunette shoved her to the ground, a rather condescending look on her face as she watched the princess. "Oh Prince! Your damsel awaits you! Ride in on your horse in shining armor as you always have!" She called out to Wesley, pointing her sword at Nadeline, though she gave her a dark look. "It must be so nice to always have a hero there, waiting until just the right moment to come in and sweep you off your feet."

Nadeline managed to prop herself on her elbows, matching Emiri's stare. "And what of your prince? Have you forgotten about Jaakuna?" She asked.

For just a second, Nadeline though she had gotten through to her, though Emiri burst out laughing. "You want to know something? Just last night, he said 'I won't leave you', even after he had abandoned me before! And what was the first thing he did after that?" Emiri shook her head, letting out a sigh. "But I've learned my lesson. I won't sit around waiting for his return. That damsel in distress is dead. Only a witch remains in her place," Emiri replied quite bluntly, raising her sword above her.

Now it was Nadeline's turn to laugh, causing Emiri to hesitate. "I'm glad you've said that. Now, I won't hesitate to strike no longer," She stated, holding a hand out as a glyph appeared beneath her. Emiri immediately jumped out of the vicinity, sword at the ready as Nadeline would pick herself up, her hair and clothes swaying as the wind surrounded her. "I heard your thoughts, I saw what you did. And I know that you aren't angry at all. Worry not, for I will free you!" She announced, Ultima's symbol on her hand glowing.

Keiran peered at the princess. Oh, that can't have been a good thing, especially with all that pure Mist roaming around her. Was she going to unlock her Seal as well? That could potentially bring a problem to the table. He bit his lower lip, deep in thought. Perhaps this had been his master's true intentions? No doubt the prince was finishing up with the beast, and would come after him next. He closed his gray eye, leaving only his red eye open, his hand under his chin thoughtfully.

That’s a very good question, Prince Grant,” Levi mused, turning to Atticus, “what should we do with them?

You’re leaving it up to me?” Atticus asked, taken aback by the sudden faith that Levi just showed him

Of course. I am simply here as an overseer. You are the captain of this wonderful band of brothers. Besides,” Levi gestured to Savayna and Grant, “these two are your family. Savayna is, by blood, your family, and Grant is well on his way of being your son-in-law.” Levi chuckled at the thought of that, “so surely you have some idea on what you want to do to them.

Savayna couldn't believe this. Black blood spewed from Levi’s mouth and she hadn’t commented on it once. Not only that, but she had been ignoring Savayna for minutes. Instead, she had been conversing with her rotten, no-good father about what they should do with her and Grant. The nerve of that wench!

Savayna tightened her fists. How she wanted to wipe that smug look off of her vile face. She wasn’t going to give that bitch the chance to do anything with either her or Grant. “I’ll tell you what —” Before Savayna could finish what she was going to say, she felt such a sharp pain in her shoulder that it caused her to scream louder than she had ever screamed before out of pure agony. It was such an ear-screeching scream that it made her fall face-first, all the while she was clenching the injured shoulder.

You’re quite a tenacious warrior, Savayna. That much I will give you.” Levi said, twirling corrupted, corrosive water in her right hand, “but do you honestly think that you can make threats to me while you have corrosive water flowing through your bloodstream?” Levi closed her fist, and something in Savayna’s shoulder burned like an inferno, causing her to screech out once more, this time higher than before. It was almost to the point of her crying from the pain.

Jaakuna just looked at Reia as she completely dismantled Isaiah’s great speech of arresting her and Lorenzo. It brought a smile to his face. It was even more apparent when he saw the neutral look on his cousin’s face curve into a slightly annoyed expression, giving Jaakuna the impression that he didn’t expect this to go the way that it had. FOr a moment, Jaakuna thoguht that maybe he would forget the entire thing, and they woudl just turn tail, and go back where they came from.

But of course that wasn’t going to happen because Reia offered herself as a sacrifice.

Terrific. Just fucklng terrific.

Jaakuna’s smile was gone. His hope that they all would be able to remain in peace without worry was gone. Nothing but the realization that someone - most likely his grandfather - had planned it perfectly to interfere with what Jaakuna had hoped to do.

Cursing not so loudly, JAakuna could only watch in disbelief as Ixion returned to his neutral expression.

You’ve studied foreign laws extensively.” Ixion chuckled, amused. “Only someone who had every law of Ivalice memorized could know which one would fit this very situation you find yourself in.” Ixion laughed again. “I suppose I have no choice then.” Ixion sighed, “Empress Reia Alexandria Roselia, I fully accept the terms you have laid out in front of me and the Soliders of the Imperial Army. As such, I will not bring any further legal charges to the Prince Lorenzo Jeremiah Roselia.” Ixion said. He stepped forward, “now please, come with me.” Ixion gestured his arm forward, and in a matter of moments, the soldiers were hauling Reia away.

You’re going to pay for this, Ixion.” Jaakuna swore as he snarled lowly at Ixion.

I am sorry it had to come to this, Jackson, but orders are orders. You are free to appeal to the charges if you wish. Grandfather should be in his office.

That was the last thing that Ixion said before he turned, and followed the hoard of Archadian Soldiers that had Reia.

Jaakuna screamed out of anger, cursing up a storm of obscenities that caused people who were passing by to give him looks. He told them to fuck off and threatened to kick their asses if they didn’t get out of his sight. Of course, they fled in terror.

Calm down, Jaak —” Nila was cut off by a deathstare from Jaakuna.

Don’t tell me to calm down!” Jaakuna snapped at Nila, ceasing any further words she might’ve had for him.

I see that only made it angrier.” Wesley cocked a smirk. For sure, he thought Royal Judgement was going to be enough, but it seems that it only added fuel to the fire.

As he held his sword in front of him, Wesley would mirror what the beast was doing: he took to a run. Where the beast became engulfed in green light that made Wesley’s hair stand up on every part of his body that had hair, WEsley became surrounded by a brilliant orange light, purifying any remaining remnants of it's foul mist.

And then the two came to a clash.

The beast had met WEsley’s blade. They were at a standstill. Foul Mist threatened to overtake Wesley’s light. And though the Dalmascan prince wanted anything but that exact thing to happen, he found himself on the defensive. His strength was starting to slip. The beast - and the mist it oozed in the quantities - was inching closer and closer to Wesley’s personal circumference, and threatened to consume him.

Push Wesley! Push!

I..Can’t. It’s too much.

You are a descendant of the Dynast King. You have the blood of Raithwall himself flowing through your veins. This beast is nothing. Show it that you will not bend the knee to the likes of its kind.

And something within Wesley awoke. It wasn’t anything like the Order Seal. No, this was more of an inner-fire, a desire to do his ancestor proud. “You are absolutely right, Hashmal. Thank you.” Wesley said.

As he pushed forward, brilliant light overtook his sword. In the matter of just one moment, the Yagyu Darkblade was no more. In its place, a blade almost twice as long, opposite of color, and with the symbol of a sun at the top took its place. In its stead, the Yagyu Darkblade was no more, for The Sword of Kings took its rightful place.

I..don’t understand.

It’s simple, Wesley,” Hashmal said, materializing next to Wesley. “You have finally deemed yourself worthy as King of Dalmasca." Hashmal said, giving Wesley a respectful nod.

Wesley looked a the Sword of Kings. It was the same as it was before, but for some reason it was a lot..stronger, seeming to be infused with strong magicks like he had never seen before.

The Sword of Kings that you hold in your hand is the complete version, because inside its crevices are the spirits of the fallen kings - your father, Jonathan, his grandfather and his grandfather’s father, the Queen Ashelia, and Raithwall himself - all of them empower of you, all of them judged you, and all of them, with their might, recognize you as the rightful heir to the Dalmascan Throne.

Wesley heard Hashmal speak. He heard all of those words. They even registered with him, but the only thing that he could focus on was the way this blade made him feel. First off, it made him feel powerful, more powerful than he was with the Yagyu Darkblade. Secondly, there was a sense of rightful purpose that he was experiencing, as if something that laid slumbering finally woke up. And the last thing, a warmth that was unexplainable. All of those things, combined with what Hashmal said, made Wesley absolutely sure that going on this journey was the right thing to do. It would be further proof when he would look at the beast who stayed at bay due to the mist field surrounding the Sword of Kings.

As Wesley stepped forward, the beast had been forced back even more. Each step would force it back one pace. As Wesley gripped the hilt with both hands, he would slice downward, and send a wave of purifying mist towards the beast. It not only would surround the beast, but in doing so, it would cleanse the world of its vile existence. Wesley would hear the screams of agony it let loose as it dwindled into nothingness.

As it should be.” Wesley commented, taking a knee. After a moment, he rose to his feet, and looked at the boy who just looked at him with a smile. “You are next!” Wesley pointed the Sword of Kings at the snickering boy.

Grant didn’t like where any of this was going, not Levi leaving Atticus to decide nor how Levi continued to demonstrate exactly how much she knew about them. Savayna moved forward, and while Grant moved to stop her, something else had beaten him to the punch. Her pain seemed to be coming from her shoulder, a magick Grant recognized. He had only heard about it once, though Levi had seemed to have put her own personal touch into it. He clumsily managed to catch Savayna before she hit the ground, though he could do nothing for her pain. Levi had them exactly where she wanted them, and what was worse, she was just messing around.

How he wished Nadeline was with them. She would surely be able to alleviate Savayna’s pain, or have some sort of idea how to go about cleansing it, but Grant was at a loss. What was he to do? Why wasn’t he able to think straight? Perhaps it was because he hated the feeling of being trapped, and it was like he was back in that prison cell in Archades. Vincent had been the same, managing to break him down with little effort. Was he that weak? Was he truly that foolish?

Enough. Zeromus reprimanded him sternly. Since when have you been one to self-doubt?

There’s a difference between doubting yourself and knowing you are utterly screwed, Grant defended himself rather bitterly. Our backs are to the wall with swords at our throats. There’s nothing to do, nowhere to run.

And you would simply lay down and die?

He had a point. Even if it was fruitless, even if it led to death, it was better to try and fail than to not try at all. What had he been doing, doubting himself like that? He had come here with a purpose, although now that he was fully aware Savayna’s father was little more than an asshat, he was going to prove himself to her.

Gently placing Savayna down, Grant would stand, adjusting his collar as his mark on his hand glowed brightly. “I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you to stop that, Leviathan,” He asked—no, he outright ordered it as he would brush some dust off his shoulder. “I take back what I said when I asked what you were planning to do, as I’ve just about had enough of this little game between you and I. My decision has been made—once you release Savayna, we’ll be well on our way.

That’s the confidence I like to see. Zeromus was pleased, the brightening on his symbol in accordance.

Lorenzo was awfully quiet, all things considered, only exchanging a glance as Reia was led away. Of course she knew foreign law—Reia was a damn nerd about all laws, when their father was King, she wanted to become a member of the Council specifically to deal in foreign policies. They bit her bait, it seemed, though he wondered if perhaps she was the only one they wanted right now. Surely they would find a way to get rid of him, but too many questions remained. As he was about to wonder what exactly was going on, Jaakuna would essentially throw a temper tantrum. And that was something Lorenzo wasn’t about to take right now.

Lorenzo clapped his hand on Jaakuna’s shoulder, essentially holding him steady. When Jaakuna would surely try to throw the same deathstare he threw at Nila, Lorenzo would throw his own cold glare right back, unflinching. “Instead of wasting time and throwing tantrums, we need to know exactly what the hell is going on,” His voice was uncannily calm, a quiet fury lingering through his eyes. He was severely disappointed in Jaakuna’s reaction, though he would not blame him. “Somewhere along the line, something went wrong. Think, kid, what is wrong with this situation besides the obvious? Why would a foreign Empress be accused of conspiracy when this is the first time she has stepped foot in this country? If your grandfather is calling the shots, what happened to your half-brother?” He urged Jaakuna to get his head together.

Something within seemed to spring forth through Nadeline, a power she had never even dreamed she could have. She could feel every ounce of Mist around them, every living creature within ten miles, every grain of sand beneath their feet. Was this what Wesley had? Is this what the Seal was? As if answering her thoughts, Ultima would simply chuckle. She couldn’t even explain it, could she? Nadeline would have scowled, but she had bigger issues to focus on now.

Emiri narrowed her eyes, though she would simply hold her sword at the ready. Nadeline took in a deep breath, a white Mist surrounding her as it engulfed her blade. Emiri mimicked her, a dark Mist in her blade, charging up. Once again, Nadeline would lunge forward, her rapier ahead of her, and as Emiri would run forth, the two would only stop as their blades collided, their respective energies crashing into one another and resulting in an explosion of Mist that would send both flying in opposite directions.

Nadeline couldn’t help but curse as she skidded to a halt, clearly not knowing her own strength. No, that wasn’t it, it was the fact that Emiri matched it that really worried her. Indeed, Emiri seemed to be oozing darkness, practically bathing in it as she would walk towards Nadeline. The crown upon her head was fitting, it was as if she had crowned herself the queen of darkness. Still, Nadeline wasn’t about to give up, instead she would hold her sword at the ready. As the two would make eye contact, their battle would begin once more.

I will save you, I swear it!

Keiran let out a low whistle, though he couldn’t help but chuckle. Indeed, these Seals were truly a force to be reckoned with. Though he thought Nadeline should be more careful; a fresh Seal could easily wane against Emiri’s darkness. As he contemplated the thought, Wesley would address him, and Keiran would look at him with genuine interest.

“Done with the little beast already? Bravo, Highness, bravo,” Keiran couldn’t help but clap for Wesley, though he remained sitting in the air. “But I’m afraid I must advise you that me being ‘next’ wouldn’t be in your best interest. Although…” His feet would touch the ground, and Keiran would open his arms, inviting Wesley to strike him down. “You’re more than welcome to try. Perhaps you’ll have better luck than the Blue Rose did.”

When Keiran would touch the ground, Emiri took notice right away, backing away from Nadeline. However, the princess wasn’t about to let her get away just yet, and took advantage of Emiri looking away. She stabbed her rapier into the ground, forming a makeshift cage of light around Emiri. She would gasp as the cage would shrink and form a bind on her, though her eyes widened as Nadeline would form a symbol with her hand, the very same one she did back in Stigma Castle.

Emiri let out a scream as Nadeline would attempt to purify the darkness, and a single crack formed on Keiran’s face. He grinned, looking over at Nadeline. “Uh oh…now your princess has made her angry,” He warned Wesley, gesturing at the scene.

Nadeline held fast, even as Emiri resisted. She ignored her screams, focusing on removing the darkness in her heart. You mustn’t continue! Ultima warned her, catching Nadeline by surprise. Unfortunately, it would not be as simple as she would have hoped, especially when an explosion of darkness would knock her away. Emiri let out a rageful scream, breaking her binds, and it was then that the Mist around her would darken so much that it almost made Nadeline nauseous. Why was it so corrupted?! Was Emiri truly the source, and not Keiran as she and Wesley had suspected?

Emiri clutched her chest, panting heavily, though she would then laugh. “Almost got me there…almost,” She admitted, holding out her sword so that it pointed at the ground. “Too bad ‘almosts’ don’t count.

She must be incapacitated before you can attempt that again. That darkness is different from the other you have encountered, it runs directly from her emotions,Ultima said.

Nadeline let out a small, happy sigh, grateful for Ultima’s advice, though she would pay more attention as Emiri would drop her sword. It would fall, point in first, though when she pulled it out, another sword, this one colored gold, would take its place. Now Emiri would dual wield them both, taking a battle stance. Jaakuna would’ve been tickled pink had he seen this, though Nadeline didn’t like this new skill. How was she learning these things so fast? All magicks, even the Seals, required some knowledge. There was no way Emiri could learn these things so quickly!

If Wesley and I were to fight her two on one, we may have a chance, but that Keiran is a variable… Her eyes narrowed on Emiri as she whipped her rapier to her side. No, I must believe that Wesley can take care of him. All I should do is focus on her…maybe then…! Emiri spring forth, interrupting Nadeline’sthoughts, and the battle raged on.
