Danny
@Duthguy
Upon expending his MP through his spells--though it seemed Levitation used so little that it was barely noticeable--and touching one of the Mana Crystals, Danny instantly felt his energy return and received a System message (see other players for details) informing him that he had used a Mana Crystal and completely refilled his MP. So his guess had been correct!

But suddenly, a curved stick--not quite a boomerang, but certainly a good shape for throwing--whizzed past him to strike another crystal, causing it and the stick both to fall to the ground. A Goblin down below caught them, and drew the stick back with a cackling laugh as it took aim at the Wisp!

“I’mma getcha, shiny thing!” said the green urchin, before letting its weapon fly once more, this time directly at Danny.

Rain
@Old Amsterdam
“YEOWCH!”

Rattleskull had been extremely disappointed in his two sons. The girl, however--who he was pretty sure was not one of his offspring--actually showed moxie with a little encouragment, and had taken off after the prey. When she got a little rounder in the hips, he’d have to make sure she bore him some worthy sons for next time. But as he was distracted watching the younglings, he didn’t notice one of the lizards until its fangs were sinking into his achilles tendon.

His foot jerked away, but by that point Rain was already running. He turned and saw the tail end of the lizard disappearing, and pondered picking up a rock to chuck at it...but no. He checked his foot--it was bleeding, but he didn’t see the telltale signs of lizard poison he’d learned to look for in his years growing up in the cave. His resistance must have fought off the paralysis, then. He nodded to himself, then turned back to see if Orchid would have any luck of her own.

“Hmph. After I teach this youngling how to do things, I’mma kill two or three little scalies...” he growled to himself, using his other furry foot to rub the one that had been bitten. “Teach them to mess with me…”

Meanwhile, Rain could taste the blood on her fangs. She had definitely pierced the skin, and though that fur and flesh tasted terrible and smelled worse, she had felt her teeth go fairly deep. So she could at least hurt the boss, it wouldn’t be like one of those games where you level up enough and the enemy goes “tink” against your armor (even if the animation shows them slamming a lance through your chest).

Asura
@Kazemitsu
You have learned a new Skill!
Skill Gain: Limited Shapeshift I
By practicing the manipulation of your body, which Slimes are naturally predisposed for, you gained this skill. You cannot alter the total size, texture, or consistency of your body. You also cannot alter your body’s primary qualities--you cannot become “sharp” or “hard,” for example. At this level, complex structures are too difficult. But making yourself into a rolling sphere, a flat puddle, or shaping your pseudopods would all be possibilities, plus more. This skill consumes Stamina, not MP.
System:Asura

He wasn’t much faster than an average human’s jogging speed, but Asura suddenly found his tire-like shape becoming much more stable. He soon left the scuffle between Goblins and Lizards behind, but now where was he headed inside the cave…?

System:Jason

After escaping the skirmish himself, our other resident slime began to practice with his newly acquired earthen magic. As Jason first practiced with simply picking up and moving rocks, he found that he could make virtually no use of any “tool” the way the goblins did--all his “chiseling” accomplished was making a repetitive clinking sound against the wall. He would probably need some way to manipulate his pseudopods for a better grip, if he wanted to see any results through this method.

Practicing and analyzing the process of his Stone Shot skill, however, provided much more useful insight. Jason learned that his MP was not “created” with the golden glow he had come to recognize as Earth-elemental power, but rather the raw energy he focused on the rock seemed to enter it, suffuse it, and then “become” Earth aligned. The further mechanics of this phenomenon eluded him at the moment, as he hadn’t done near enough experimentation yet and of course, had no real idea how magic actually worked in this world since it clearly didn’t obey physics like the Old World he had come from.

When Jason began sending his energy into the soil and stone directly underneath him, rather than a rock stored in his inventory, that too gave him a deeper insight. The energy seemed to work like a radar or sonar, traveling a certain distance and bouncing back to the slime, now filled with Earth affinity. It was a faint sensation, and he didn’t have any skill at reading it, but it seemed like these tremors were a little different depending on what they passed through--loose dirt, for instance, felt differently than solid rock. But would this help him with his magical goal? It was still too soon to tell.

System:Jason

At one point, however, one of his pulses of energy went deeper into the earth--not the ground, but into the walls alongside him. And when it came back, it still had that Earthy feeling to it, but there was something else too. It was like a mana crystal, but different…

Digbie

Stone Spike Equipped.
System:Digbie

The stalagmite--or at least about a foot of it, fairly heavy but not too much so that it couldn’t be used to stab or bludgeon something--broke off in Digbie’s hands with a crunch. As he used his Tremor Sense, once again the world seemed to go black and white as vibrations came to him from different directions…

On the wall nearby, a random creature of some sort--from its size it might be a pixie, lizard, or rat, but Digbie couldn’t tell through the tremors yet--seemed to be resting on a ledge. It wasn’t producing many vibrations, so it wasn’t moving a whole lot.

But further away from there, Digbie picked up another signal seemingly at random--and this one was much stronger than the pixie even though the distance to it was greater. That was probably because there were three creatures creating vibrations that overlapped with each other and resonated as a stronger tremor--but they still had a light, wispy feel to them, like they were just barely brushing the ground in some sort of dance over and over.

As Mourningstar berated Jacob for his experiments and Digbie performed an experiment of his own, however, would any of the three see the lone Wisp slowly climbing to a higher altitude above them, almost near the ceiling of the cave? Like a hunter getting ready to take his shot (for that was exactly what the Wisp was doing) it took aim at the distracted pixie before letting out a crackling Mana Orb…!

As soon as he said it, the screeching started up again. But at the same time Jacob experienced a sudden flashback:

You died.

The crystal clear memory, the moment of your death, burns at the back of your vision in exquisite detail. In this image, time freezes and every minutia stands out for you to ponder at your leisure. Behind it, the rest of your memories stretch into infinity like an endless hall of mirrors. Somehow you know you will never forget any of it. Moments of bliss and despair, weakness and triumph alike, engraved into eternity.

It would seem that you are alone, in this “eternity.” Endless white stretches out in every direction. Yet you feel claustrophobic, as if sealed in a box waiting to be opened. You stand upon a floor, but to look down reveals no shadow nor footprint. You are not sure if the pristine, featureless expanse is light, or void. You have a body, but your eyes, nose, and every nerve may as well be nonexistent for all the perception they provide.

But your ears hear a voice.

“This one’ll do, too.”

Then the jingle.

Even though she chewed them out a little for not going along with her plan, these so-called party members of hers seemed to stop paying attention to her entirely! What kind of insubordinate minions did the Demon King’s army keep these days? But, as she was the only one not focusing on some kind of skill or experiement, Mourningstar had the best chance of seeing what was about to occur.

@JobstI just realize you flip flopped through genders in your CS, but I'm assuming you meant for Xiao Mei to be female and had just rewritten it at some point?
@JobstYup. Just jump into any situation, or explore the cave, whatever you'd like. If you need info feel free to ask and I'll try to answer without giving too much away. Be aware that random encounters can and will happen!
@Jobst
I've looked over your profile and think you qualify for a carry over skill, since a life as a criminal who used subterfuge rather than violence would be particularly suited.
Ah, now you're one after my own heart. But unfortunately for you, the subtleties of words are often lost on my less developed followers. You'll have to get your own hands dirty now...

Skill Gain: Deception I - Like other charismatic skills, your personality is almost a magical charm unto itself. You'll have greater luck deceiving others, whether it be through words or sleight of hand.

Accepted!
Some say money is the root of all evil. But if it wasn't money, what would it be? Land? Cattle? Or my personal favorite, Blood? But if all these things could be treated as money...does that mean all things are evil, at their core? What do you say?

Skill Gain: Faster I - Your need for speed has granted you a perception that is used to the ground beneath your feet turning to a blur, and the feel of the wind through your hair. Your raw stats grant you slightly greater speed than normal.
The Demon King
@Jobst
Accepted! Forgive me but it's pretty late where I'm at, so I'll have to look at it and decide if you qualify for a carry-over skill from your past life at a later point. I like that he went full-blown criminal in his past life though, as no one yet has made a villainous kind of character that might fit the normal mindset of the "monsters" the players have become. Looking forward to seeing him in action!
Sorry everyone, I’ve ended up working late tonight. I likely won’t be able to post anything IC or get on the discord until either much later or tomorrow afternoon.

@Duthguy
Hey there, long time no see! Your character is accepted as it is, unless you want to make any changes to the backstory. As it is, right now they probably would not qualify for an extra skill carried over from their past life, so if you wanted to add some more detail you’re welcome to. Otherwise, go ahead and add them to the tab! And congratulations on kicking cancer’s ass!
Just a bump to announce we've had a couple of players withdraw, and this RP IS still open for applications. We're at a good point in the beginning for people to keep joining, there's not a lot of "plot" and no one's gotten very far ahead of each other in terms of ability growth.
@RennySorry to hear that, but thanks for letting me know! If you get the chance, consider jumping back in, hopefully we'll be around a while!

Heading towards the Dorms

@Feyblue@Silver Carrot

It was late, he was tired, he probably needed to take one of his pain meds and just go to bed...

But he had forced himself to fight his way back here for a reason, after all. And here was a clue to finding the trail. With a single-minded determination--though he did do a double take at the guy missing an arm, but assumed that if he wasn't screaming and no one was running for the nurse he probably had some kinda Quirk going on; and he also blushed at the girly sounds and the rustling coming from a nearby hedge--he strode across the courtyard after a certain not-quite-as-fluffy ahoge.

"Asuka-chan? Hey, Asuka-chan, it's me, from the other day!"

She was walking with Kasuke Mina, in the direction of the dorm buildings, and from the looks of it they were talking about something. Kenichi didn't really want to interrupt anything important, and he also hoped he wasn't about to barge into one of those "girl talks" guys were forbidden from hearing, but he didn't know where Fumika was. If she was already in the girl's dorm he couldn't exactly just charge in there, but maybe her sister either knew where she was or would pass on a message.

Assuming she would turn to face him, he stopped for a moment, grimacing as he breathed--those cracked ribs weren't gonna heal in just a couple of days.

"Hey, uh...Been a while. I, uh, just got back from some...personal business. I wanted to say hi to your sis--and you too of course, sorry--but I wouldn't wanna bother her if she's already...in her room or something." He stood up a little straighter, which made him wince again. "How's she been the last couple days? Like we talked about last time, she seemed kinda down..."

He nodded to Mina too as a form of greeting. She and he hadn't really spoken much, though he'd overheard a few of her conversations with other students. He remembered something about her being good at Karate--which also reminded him of his talk with...Yashiro, wasn't it...about learning some martial arts himself. He sure could have used it, back there on that mountain...

Nope. Think about Motome-chan, and how she's been since I've been gone. What's she been up to? Wonder if anything fun happened. Do not think about the mountain, or being chained up, or helpless--DO NOT THINK ABOUT IT. Motome-chan. She is a tough cookie. Her hair is fluffy. A fluffy cookie. That's a weird mental image.

Orchid

1 Sharp Rock added to Inventory.
Would you like to exchange Sharp Stick with Sharp Rock? (Attack power =, Weapon Durability ^)
System:Orchid

Orchid did indeed find a nice rock she could throw--it was a bit rounded on one side, but had been worn down on the other until it almost had an edge like a axe head or something. She could either throw it, or hold it in her hand as a weapon.

It seemed this other youngling, Yoda, was offering to protect and work together with her. Was he just being nice, or trying to woo her? And would Orchid notice that his speech was very well put together for a goblin? They certainly didn’t seem intelligent thus far, and Yoda was as “young” as she was...Could he be…?

But as she, Yoda, Eric, and Rattleskull approached the little group it looked like at least one of the Fanged Lizards had noticed them, and the others were starting to get tense. If the goblins didn’t act soon, their prey might scatter…!

“Go already!” hissed Rattleskull--just as a glob of poison arced through the air at them! One of the lizards jumped up on a rock, bearing those razor sharp fangs and hissing its battlecry...

Yoda
@Renny
As Yoda offered to protect Orchid and encouraged them to work together, Rattleskull made a “tch” sound.

“Dun worry bout protectin’ nobody.” the boss growled out of the corner of his mouth in a low voice. “Focus on gettin’ yer kill. If’n some other gob dies it’s they own faults.” With one big, rough hand, he shoved Yoda further forward in front of the group. It looked like some of the Fanged Lizards had noticed them, and the others were getting tense. If the goblins didn’t act soon, their prey might scatter…!

“Go already!” hissed Rattleskull--just as a glob of poison arced through the air at them! One of the lizards jumped up on a rock, bearing those razor sharp fangs and hissing its battlecry…

Eric
@Knox
After pushing Yoda to the forefront of the group, Rattleskull hissed for them to go and attack already before the prey could scatter----just as a glob of poison arced through the air at them! One of the lizards jumped up on a rock, bearing those razor sharp fangs and hissing its battlecry. Then the boss turned around and looked at the other two. Noticing that Eric had been hanging back this whole time, the furry monster took a long stride around the edge of the group before booting the unfortunate goblin right in his backside.

“Quitcher lazin’ about! Hunt!”

Ryuu
@CriticalHit
As Ryuu got closer, he heard the goblins seemingly bickering amongst themselves. Just as he climbed up on the rock to attack them, he would see the big one shoving one of the others forward, and as he lobbed his Poison Spit the boss kicked another one. Time seemed to slow down immensely as the glob of venom arced through the air. Would it hit? If it did, would it do anything? Would they pay any attention to him? If not, what would happen to his newfound friends…?

Ardur
@ReusableSword
As the Pixie moved to a better vantage point, he could see that Crispy had not left his bonfire, but that four figures were moving towards the collection of monsters. One of them was far bigger, and hairier, than anything he had seen in the cave--and it was wearing armor and carrying a more sophisticated looking weapon than just sticks or rocks. The other three were all armed in various degrees, but they looked young and inexperienced. As the pixie watched, he would see one of them hold back--a female, from the looks of it--while the big hairy one roughly shoved and kicked the two young males forward. The most active of the males looked like he was carrying a big stick with a knot on the end of it in both hands, while the other either didn’t have anything, or his weapon was something small and not easy to see. Maybe a stone blade of some sort, or just his bare fists.

One of the lizards took up the attack at Ash’s urging for them to serve as a distraction. But it didn’t seem likely it would intimidate all of the goblins, especially not that big one. And they would be coming any minute…!

Rain
@Old Amsterdam
Rain was apparently the most alert of the lizards, as she immediately reacted to the shadows in her peripheral and the musky smell drifting over the air. As she looked, four figures were moving towards the collection of monsters. One of them was far bigger, and hairier, than anything she had seen in the cave--and it was wearing armor and carrying a more sophisticated looking weapon than just sticks or rocks. As Ash formulated a strategy, Ryuu was the first to act on it. But just one Poison Spit probably wouldn’t stop all of them, especially not that big one. And they would be coming any minute…!

But that meant that the one called Crispy might be alone, next to the bonfire…

Ash
@Rune_Alchemist
Ash only became aware of the enemies approaching when Ardur began to move further away from the group and Rain suddenly began peering into the growing darkness of the cave.

The product of all her hard work at Alchemy still sat at the bottom of the stone bowl, a single Poison Tainted Mana Crystal. If these goblins were approaching them, that might mean Crispy was all alone at the bonfire--but she chose to prioritize her new allies first, quickly coming up with a plan of action. But if they were going to execute it, they needed to do so soon--Ryuu was the first to take off, launching an attack all by himself. But it didn’t seem likely the Poison Spit would slow all of them down, especially not that big one. And they would be coming any minute…!

Asura
@Kazemitsu
While practicing his abilities was all well and good, would Asura notice the creatures getting closer to their little gathering? And could he hear Ash’s plan?

"Slimes. Ardur." She hissed quietly over to her new compatriots, skittering closer to them so they could hear her but still keep her voice low. "You three get out of here. Fighting that big Goblin is going to be suicide." She turned her head quickly to the other lizards. "The three of us will distract them for only a few moments. We'll meet up again later, further from the bonfire. I have things I'd like to discuss about all of us."

With that said, it was now up to Asura to decide what he would do, but he had better make that decision quick, as one of the lizards had already chosen to engage…!

His fellow slime--his brother actually, though whether or not he had realized they had both split from the same motherly mass had yet to be seen--was apparently practicing some kind of attack on a rock. Had he even noticed yet that they were apparently being hunted?

Whatever they were going to do about this situation, it would need to be done fast…!

The Exit

@Duoya

Puck
@Gobby
It turned out, in fact, that both of the goblins were dead, either crushed under the weight of the rocks or impaled by the sharp points of falling stalactites.

The bodies are carrying the following loot:
1 Sharp Stick (Unequippable)
1 Sharp Stick (Unequippable)
1 Healing Herb (Half-eaten)
1 ??? Hide
System:Puck

However, though the guards were taken care of, there was now another obstacle in Puck’s way.

The cave’s exit had not been entirely blocked off, but it had been made much less stable. There were still holes here and there, near the top, betwixt the rubble that a small creature might be able to fit through. But the rocks didn’t look at all settled--just one wrong move, one slip up, might cause them to fall on him again, or close up around him. In addition to this, the light from outside was starting to disappear, making it even harder to see and even riskier to try and navigate the pile of stones.

As Puck waited, it felt like his MP was slowly going back up...but it was very slow. If he couldn’t find a crystal, he might need to take an extended rest of some sort. Keeping himself moving was a good way to keep himself from falling asleep, since he might possibly have a concussion, but he certainly couldn’t take a breather while doing that…

As the red rays of what must have been sunset bled through the rocks, one of the newly revealed rock layers nearby glimmered with something new...

Digbie
@Gardevoiran
By the grace of the Demon King, or just pure dumb luck, Digbie’s throw hit home! The stone spike speared the slime all the way through! It gave a loud squeal mixed with the sound of a balloon that has been let go as its flight came to halt. When the Wisp crashed into it, she “popped” it, and now found herself covered in rapidly melting goo as the creature lost whatever consistency usually held it together.

They had done it! Working together, this unlikely party had defeated their opponent--and although they were all beginner monsters, this seemed like a rather notable feat. Slimes, after all, had been the “toughest” of the monsters according to the information the Demon King had given them. It probably wasn’t easy to take them down. So with his newfound experiences, and possibly allies, what would Digbie do next?

Oberon
@King Cosmos
For the first time, Jacob realized he might not be alone in his predicament. Could this Wisp be like him? Born on Earth, dead, and then reborn in this new world with all its odd creatures and strange rules? Could she tell him any way to get by, or any new information that might help him towards his goals? Were they the only two? What were the chances of the others all being in this same cave?

The only way to find out would be to ask Mourningstar, who conveniently hadn’t flown away yet as she was covered in goop from the Slime they had just killed.

Had it been a former human as well?

Mourningstar
@floodtalon
Luckily, the stone spike killed the slime before she ever made contact with it. Unluckily, dead slimes apparently could not retain their shape. As the Wisp crashed into it, she found herself covered in quickly melting goop that dripped all over her body and soaked through the odd, filament-like fur she was covered in under the glowing lights.

And now the Pixie was speaking to her.

“W-wait. Are you from Earth? Hey!” he called, as he zoomed up to her in the puddle of slime.
