Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

roleplayerguild.com/posts/5… If anyone's up for fighting some kaiju, why not try out my new RP, Godzilla: YATAGARUSU?

Sir Gerard's blade pierced armor and flesh and bone, the mercenary wholly unprepared for such a swift attack. He let out a rasping gurgle before crumpling to the floor, his blood leaking out onto the stone below.

Fanilly relaxed, only slightly. While she was certain that it would be nearly impossible to remain unnoticed all the way to the bottom chamber of the mausoleum, they could potentially mount a surprise attack on the guards below.

One thing she could be thankful for, at the very least, is that it didn't appear as if any of the other crypts had been broken into. As unnerving as simply being in a cemetery could be at night, the young knight-captain was glad(if somewhat uncertain as to why) the necromancer hadn't disturbed any of the other mausoleums... was it to remain unnoticed more effectively? The idea of unearthing the bodies of so many dead simply to serve as slaves... it was a terrible thought. Necromancy was something that had always made Fanilly's skin crawl. Manipulating the dead simply for one's own gain... oh, she did know of the more benevolent uses of the often-dark art. Preserving severed limbs to be reattached, keeping 'dead' organs functioning. She had once heard of a knight whose heart had died, but with the quick thinking of their magic-wielding companion managed to live for many, many, many more years due to necromantic arts used upon their heart. Fanilly did not know how that tale ended, however. But it was far more frequent that necromancy was used for darker, more fiendish purposes.

"... We should try and capture at least two of their number if possible, of the leaders," Fanilly said, as she drew her sword and carefully approached the doorway of the mausoleum, "But only if it does not mean endangering the life of Vosahnn's sister."

That was paramount. Striking down the conspiracy to assassinate the Crown Princess and rescuing the young nem's sister. Whatever she would face for an attempt on Princess Eliabelle's life was irrelevant now. All that mattered was ensuring her captured sibling was rescued and ensuring that none of the people who were behind this plot escaped.

If nothing else, Fanilly was certain of this.

She inhaled deeply as she approached the doorway. What she was not so certain of was her ability to achieve these goals... but there were no other entrances to the mausoleum.

That meant they could pen their enemies in.

And they had to save the nem's sister...

As the group approached the doorway, carved with the visage of Mayon extending her hand towards those below, Vosahnn swiftly scratched out a message in response to Sir Jarde's questioning.

'NECROMANCER AT BOTTOM'

'SEVERAL DOZEN MERCENARIES'

It wasn't much new information, and the necromancer being at the bottom of the mausoleum was obvious, but it was at least enough to know what to expect.

Fanilly slowly pushed the door open.

Within, the mausoleum was dusty, but it was clear that people had been here. There was a table with a small amount of offerings placed upon it, as if only one person had been giving them.

Among them was a knitted doll with buttons for eyes, that looked to have been there for a few years now. Maybe three.

Fanilly stepped into the crypt, beckoning the other knights to follow her.

As she did, the light of a torch was visible advancing up the right side of the twin staircases that lead downwards.

The bearer was revealed quite quickly, a dark-haired man clad in light leather and steel, a longsword on his hip and a torch in one hand.

There was no-where to hide, certainly not for a group of armored knights. And so...

"Argus, your shift is-Wh-what?!" cried the mercenary, "The... the Iron Roses?! Damn it...! Everyone, there's-"

Fanilly took a deep breath and ducked low, sprinting forward with her own blade held in both hands. As the man realized what was coming immediately, but was unprepared for it to come so quickly. His hand was on the hilt of his sword, drawing it, but it was quite simply too late.

She'd driven her blade up and through his chest, aiming squarely for the heart to kill him as quickly as possible.

The small knight stepped back, letting the body fall limply with one final gasp, the torch hitting the floor and rolling down several steps...

But the sound of feet rushing up from below was already clearly audible.

There was no further time for any kind of stealth.

"Iron Rose Knights, charge!"

Saber - Benienma

"..."

Before Beninema's eyes, the image of the unfortunate girl's posterior and thighs was displayed. Thankfully, she was wearing underwear, but the fact remained that Suzuka had taken this image.

Her cheeks coloring slightly with embarrassment at being shown such a thing, the enma decided there was no way she could let this slide. Indeed, there was only one correct response to this event.

The redheaded girl cleared her throat.

"What did you expect when you took this image, Suzuka? Were you intending on sharing it? The only thing I see here is a shocking display of both immaturity and what I can only describe as lechery dechi," she began, wagging one finger towards the schoolgirl-playing fox as she spoke. Her words would be harsh, but evidently they were necessary in light of that. "It is absolutely unacceptable to treat your Mastah in such a fashion dechi. As your teacher, I would have expected far better behavior dechi. Not only did you take such an image, but you took it without her knowledge as well?"

She folded her small arms across her slight chest.

"I'm deeply disappointed. While I understand your capabilities as a cook may be considerably lacking, I expected that my lessons would have given you a greater sense of responsibility and care to have been instilled within you dechi. I'm beginning to think that I may have to introduce you to some remedial lesso-mmmf?!"

The poor girl who was Suzuka's Master had quite clearly flown into a panic at the situation, completely uncertain how to react. And thus she had done something entirely unexpected and grabbed Benienma herself.

"Chirp chirp?!" Benienma freed her face for only a moment as she squirmed, wrapped in the girl's arms, "Ah, er, please, relax! Benienma won't allow her student to trouble you in such a way any longer...!"

I'll be updating tomorrow. Just need to sort some things out about how this encounter will go with this cast.
@RolePlayerRoxas: Accepted.
@Raineh Daze: Accepted.
Hmmm.

Part of me is wondering if I shouldn't try and boost the player count up with a recruitment drive of sorts, re-posting the interest check or something. It'd make some stuff smoother.
@PsyBlade: Accepted.

@TheHangedMan: I think I have room for one more, counting players who have expressed interest privately?
@PsyBlade: Looks good now.

However something I missed: While your character is fine, youkai blending into society can and should actually be an appropriate age for high school. This is possible even for animal-based youkai that must age a certain amount of years to become human-like, because their children will be youkai from the start rather then having to "reset".

That being said both accepted youkai are fine, just pointing it out for subsequent characters.
@PsyBlade: I'd like a little more detail on his level of skill and capability in bojutsu, but otherwise he looks good.

@Arachnid0: If there were more players, maybe not, but I'm not sure given we'll have a relatively small cast.
  • Name: Suzuki Tomoko
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: Human(about 88% human, according to her)
  • Appearance: A petite girl with pale blonde hair and green eyes. Due to her small size, youthful looks, and less mature figure, she is mistaken for younger then she actually is. Her right arm appears to be bandaged, and her left leg is a mundane, albeit very well-made and effective, prosthetic.
  • Personality: Suzuki Tomoko is highly intelligent and capable, to begin with, something she takes a fair amount of pride in. At the same time, she is also incredibly eccentric. She has no doubt in her own capability to solve problems(or create a sufficiently believable explanation for a problem if solving it does not seem like something she can do) for youkai and humans who are involved with youkai. She seems to have little concern for manipulating others in this light, provided it puts their minds at ease if she cannot manage a more concrete solution. Tomoko also has no issue effectively emotionally browbeating others to assist her. She is well aware of danger, and will use the threat of danger to herself in order to get others to assist her. After all, allowing a small girl with only one arm and one leg to walk into danger would be wrong, wouldn't it? At the same time, however, she has an utter lack of concern over danger to herself, cheerfully walking into life-threatening situations with confidence. Perhaps this is because she usually has some kind of plan to tackle a given situation, or perhaps she's just that confident in her ability to think on the fly. Tomoko is fairly energetic and outgoing individual in spite of this manipulative nature, quite friendly to most humans and youkai she comes across. She enjoys being praised, will do things just for the sake of looking cute or what she thinks is impressive(posing like a magical girl when 'summoning' spirits can't possibly be necessary, right? Right?), and is generally rather odd in terms of many of her behaviors. She can also be rather competitive, and clingy if she takes a special liking to someone. She is also rather unconcerned by the loss of her right arm and left leg, deeming it a worthwhile loss for her current position. Finally, Tomoko is also rather blunt when she wants to be, holding back not a single punch when it comes to such matters.
  • Abilities: Tomoko's position as the Intermediary between Humans and Youkai permits her some different capabilities. To begin with, she is capable of touching and perceiving the intangible. Spirits with no form are like physical objects to her, and she is capable of interacting with them as easily as she can any other object. Additionally, youkai can recognize her instantly on sight, effectively so they know who to talk to. She is also capable of onmoyodo, especially in terms of anti-spirit and anti-youkai spells. This extends to things such as exorcisms and spiritual barriers, as well as some basic invocations. She doesn't really need them to contact spirits, given her nature, but she thinks it looks flashy.
  • Skills: Tomoko is highly intelligent, excellent at deduction. She is also very capable of spinning "potential truths" as she calls them, based on what information she has. She is also more capable of fighting then some would expect, largely due to her nature as the Intermediary between Humans and Youkai, though someone truly skilled would likely overcome her effectively.
  • Equipment: Tomoko's right arm no longer exists. The bandages are actually a replacement, inscribed with a variety of spells on the inside. This replacement is far stronger then the rest of her body, capable of harming more powerful youkai much more easily. She cannot feel anything with it, in spite of its supernatural nature. Her left leg, however, is an ordinary prosthetic. It does allow for sufficient movement to walk normally even without a cane, though her family insists she use one. When strained too much, it will come off on its own to avoid Tomoko harming herself. She also carries numerous ofuda in a bag in order to carry out exorcisms when necessary.
  • Brief Backstory: In most respects, Tomoko was an ordinary girl for most of her life. While her family was from an onmyouji bloodline, they were fairly lax and taught mostly the basics. So in terms of her life experiences, there was little that was out of the ordinary. That is, until she reached ten years old in age. On a day out with her family, Tomoko suddenly disappeared. Four years later, she reappeared, having been granted status as the Intermediary between Humans and Youkai in exchange for her right arm and left leg. Concluding this was a worthwhile trade, she has pursued this duty with gusto for the next six years, even recruiting assistants through dubious means in order to increase her effectiveness.
