[OOC] Mahoutokoro School of Magic

Location:

From the distance most non-magical people see it at, the island of Minami Iwo Jima is unremarkable, and isn’t worth traveling out through stormy, treacherous seas to explore. It’s uninhabitable, plain and simple.

This, of course, is a lie.

Minami Iwo Jima is home to the Mahoutokoro School of Magic, an ancient school dedicated to teaching students from the continent of Asia the art of witchcraft and wizardry. Hidden from the naked eye by different charms and clever uses of illusory magic, the Mahoutokoro School of Magic utilizes the entire island, and even some of its surrounding oceans for its various teachings.

Atop the highest point of the island, built to ‘pierce the heavens’ by its founders, is the Mahoutokoro palace. The palace is crafted mutton-fat jade, sections of it seem almost translucent, and the palace seems to always be glowing in the warmth of the sun.

Groves of cherry blossom trees surround the palace, enchanted to bloom far more often than their mainland counterparts. Vast wooden bridges connect the palace to the other parts of the island, giving stunning views of the incredibly scenic island.

In some ways, it seems the location of the school would better fit as a tourist location, but it has stood here for longer than anyone can remember, and its a tradition now; and the Japanese people take their traditions very seriously.

For now, if you want to see the cherry blossom trees, the shining palace, or even walk across the wide bridges, you’ll have to be a student here.

Mahoutokoro, one of the eleven great wizarding schools dotting the globe, might have the smallest student body but it also has the highest standards of excellence. This ancient academy prides itself on its coursework, the student body and their dedication to the magical arts, and on its stellar Quidditch program. As a school for educating the next generation of witches and wizards, Mahoutokoro strives to produce students that develop a deep appreciation for magic as well as an understanding of culture and traditions of both the magical and non-magical variety. Much of the campus is rooted in the cultural traditions of the mainland but with a magical twist to them. Nowhere is this more apparent than the palacial main building itself. Atop the highest point stands an ornate mutton-fat jade gate, to the outside and untrained eye the gate is nothing more than a charred remain of some ancient structure; but behind the gate stands a building that would make the Imperial Palace blush. 

The architecture pulls from buildings of old, with gilded walls that glimmer in the sun and a campus ground that always seems to remind students of the spring of youth or the serene beauty of winter depending on the season. Cherry blossoms dot the landscape, and in winter the snow never seems to pile up but instead bathe the air in a soft pink veneer. While many of the lessons are contained within the great halls and rooms of the main palace, the entire mountain of Minami Iwo Jima serves as the schoolyard. While some areas are off limits, it isn’t uncommon to see your fellow students mingling amongst the trees or crossing the cherrywood bridges that cross over serene ponds where local and magical flora and fauna provide a tranquil sort of calm. 

Though the school sits atop an otherwise plain mountain, the beauty of ancient Japan and the wonder of modern living combine to provide students and staff with an idyllic setting for learning the intricate ways of magic. 

But of course, there’s more to Mahoutokoro than just its campus and architecture. Mahoutokoro is noted for its academic prowess and that can be attributed to its commitment to excellence and its accredited staff. 

Students at Mahoutokoro are given the freedom to focus on a course selection to suit their desired path. While there is a compulsory course load for new students, even first years are given the choice of elective while upperclassmen are permitted to attend advanced lessons focused on their preferences. At Mahoutokoro, education comes first but it is the students who make the commitment to their learning faculties. 

At Mahoutokoro, the compulsory classes are similar to those found at other wizarding schools. Every student up to Year Five is required to take the following classes: 

Charms: The art of adding properties to objects or creatures. Knowledge of various charms is essential to magical education. Charms is taught by Sekine-sensei. 

Potions: The study and art of brewing potions and the knowledge of various ingredients. Mahoutokoro’s potions program has been ranked in the top five on a consistent basis. The instructor is Potion Master Kitano.

Transfiguration: The alteration of the form or appearance of an object. It is imperative that students do not expect to be transfigured themselves nor do they attempt to do so on their fellow students. Transfiguration is taught by Asano-sensei

History of Magic: Just as we look to the future we must always be mindful of the past so that we never forget where it is we came from. History of Magic is taught by Kawaguchi-sensei

Defense Against the Dark Arts: While magic is a wonderous thing there is no denying that there exists those who might seek to use it for foul purposes.  Defense Against the Dark Arts is taught by Abe-sensei. 

Herbology: Taught in tandem with Potions, students will learn and be expected to identify various flora and their properties in such pursuits as potion making. Herbology is instructed by Shiina-sensei.

Flying: First Year students only. Given the unique terrain of the campus, flying lessons are done in smaller groups over the course of the year. Because of this, no first year student may try out for Quidditch teams even if they have completed their lesson. Flying is taught by Hisaishi-sensei.

There are numerous secondary and elective courses available to students with advanced levels as they enter their final years. Some of those courses include:

In addition to coursework, Mahoutokoro encourages its students to join or create clubs in order to facilitate both social interaction as well as a means of further enhancing one’s enjoyment of magical study. While not mandatory, clubs provide a friendly atmosphere and foster relationships that extend far beyond the halls of the academy. At the end of the term, established clubs may take part in a schoolwide festival to show off some of the things they have been working on over the course of the term. 

If Mahoutokoro is known for its academic excellence first then it is known for its Quidditch second. Every member of the Japanese National Team and the Toyohashi Tengu (reigning League Champions) has attributed their success to the training given by being part of Mahoutokoro’s intramural Quidditch teams. While there is a standard Quidditch Pitch near the back base of the mountain, practice is held over turbulent and often stormy seas where Bludgers are not the only dangers to watch out for. While charms are in place to keep the school hidden from the eyes of niju, there is a nearby active airbase which sees planes landing and taking off. While conditions might be seen as harsh, the training is for the benefit of those who wish to pursue Quidditch seriously after graduation. 

Matches are held throughout the year and attendance is optional for non-team members. The winning house of the Intramural League gets to house a trophy and the pride of the school at their back. Presently, the Ka house are the reigning champions six years running. 

Houses: 

Due to Mahoutokoro’s location and the size of its student body, the students who attend full time starting from age eleven are sorted into one of four houses. While the staff stresses that no one house is superior or inferior than the other, the yearly House Cup is a traditional to encourage teamwork and pride among students under the same banner. First year full time students are sorted into these houses by way of a Mahoutokoro Cape whose insignia and color will determine the student’s placement. The four great houses of Mahoutokoro are: 

Chi:
 Represented by the stalwart tortoise Genbu, those in the house of Chi represent a confidence of self but also a certain stubbornness of purpose. Students of Chi are said to be fiercely loyal to their fellow housemates. 

Sui:
 Represented by the ever benevolent dragon Seiryu, those in the house of Sui represent the constant desire of self improvement but also burdened by emotional guidance. Students of Sui are said to be the most clever of the four be it intellectually or otherwise.

Ka:
 Represented by the always courteous Suzaku, those in the house of Ka represent the boundless energy of the human spirit, but also the potential to misuse one’s ability. Students of Ka are said to be the most passionate about their pursuits and are the reigning Intramural Quidditch Champions. 

Fū:
 Represented by the eternally moral Byakko, those in the house of Fū represent the free flowing spirit of the wind, for better and for worse. Students of Fu are said to be the kindest of all the houses and possessed of a certain wisdom all their own. 

Each house is situated at a main cardinal direction on the campus grounds. While the entrances appear to be unassuming, save the deity that represents the house serving as an insignia, stepping inside the common room proves that looks can be deceiving. 

The Chi House is situated to the North of the grounds and its common room and living quarters are built into a beautiful earthen cave with natural lighting and brilliant gemstones. 

The Sui House is situated to the East of the grounds and its common room and living quarters dip beneath the sea where windows provide an always calming look at the colorful and exotic aquatic creatures. 

The Ka House is situated to the South of the grounds and its common room and living quarters are perched near a crackling fire, though there is no danger of burning up to be found. Many find the flames soothing.

The Fū House is situated to the West of the grounds and its common room and living quarters are among the clouds, where the sky is always a gentle blue and avian creatures flit about the winds. 

Transportation to the School:

In order to get to the school, students board a subway train at a port near the shoreline of the main Japan Coastline. The train starts out like any other underground bullet train, zipping along the track. About twenty minutes into its journey, though, the speed of the train slows tremendously, and the scene changes from the normal grey concrete of the urban tunnels, to that of the ocean floor.

The Mahoutokoro Bullet Train travels across the seafloor. A soft magical glow radiates off of it, allowing students to look out the windows and enjoy the aquatic life as they breeze past it. As the train barrels closer and closer to the island the school is on, the wildlife surrounding them changes as well, shifting from normal, Muggle creatures, to that of a more magical variety.

The students disembark and begin their school year in a small cave crafted into the side of the island. A long, winding staircase leads students to Kirin Hall, where their first meal and a welcoming speech from their headmaster awaits.

Like with contemporary schools in Japan, Mahoutokoro has a uniform though it allows for some flexibility in accessory. Gakuran for the boys and seifuku for the girls along with uwabaki for indoor school lessons. What makes Mahoutokoro unique, however, is in its uniform robes. 

The Robes:

The thread the Mahoutokoro School Robes are woven from are said to have been blessed by Amaterasu, and most graduates will keep their robes and wear them for their day-to-day life in the wizarding world. Based on the skill of the wearer, the robes color will shift. The robe colors are not dynamic, they’re static in nature. They change to higher ranks, just as well as lower ranks based on individual skill. Most people see this as motivation to work harder.

One thing most students don’t believe, is that the robe is not based on the magic skill you outwardly show, but rather what you’re capable of.

Though the robes of the students are colored individually, it is not necessarily a mark of superiority and discrimination towards those of a lighter color is discouraged. A common saying among alumni and the staff which is worth remembering is: “Everyone at Mahoutokoro started in pink.” There is some significance to the color of the individual’s robe; much like the wand, the robe chooses the color as it feels the wizard deserves it. Many students think simply being top of the class will ensure the natural advancement of robe color but that is not entirely accurate. 

Sakura: The color of inexperience, or mijuku, and the color of every first year student without exception. This robe shows that a student is aware of the basic tenets of magic and are starting their journey to become a master of their craft. 

Sunrise Orange: The color of morning, or asa, these robes are often found on second and third years though, of course, there are exceptions. This color shows a student waking up to their potential  as a wizard and is typically an indicator of one who has an eagerness to learn more - as so we all eagerly await the morning and the day it brings. 

Sunset Red: The color of evening, or ibunigu, these robes often mark the transition from underclass to upperclassman and as such it is common, but not exclusive to, for fourth year students. As with the evening sun, it promises a bright horizon to come,  such as a deeper and more advanced level of magical study.

Ocean Blue: The clearest mark of an advanced level of magical aptitude, students attired in the blue robes make up a decent percentage of the student body by sheer virtue of the fact that the higher colors have more specific aptitudes not tied simply to magical proficiency. It is entirely possible for seventh year students to have been Blue for multiple terms.

Forest Green: The mark of responsibility, students attired in the green of the tranquil forests are more than just passing students; they are also students who do more than simply attend class and socialize after lesson hours. The volunteers, the ones who aid in seemingly menial tasks, the ones who help without being asked to do so, all of these contribute to earning this robe, not necessarily simple high marks. 

Plum Purple: The mark of leadership, students attired in the purple tend to be those who take on a role of leadership within their respective circles. Club leaders, class leaders, those with above average markings in academics. 

Charcoal Black: Reserved for students who have the highest markings in their classes but either refuse to take on the mantle of a gold robe or just missed the mark.

Gold: Reserved for eight specific seventh year students who have the highest marks in their year. The eight students, one pair from each house, serve as the pinnacle of Mahoutokoro's education.

Hello again and welcome to the RP! To those of you who expressed an interest: thank you for sticking with it. And for those who might just be browsing and thought the name was catchy: thanks for stopping by! I'm new at this whole GM thing but don't hold that against me or think I'm not wholly committed to this RP. If you guys are into it, then the least I can do is give one hundred percent. There seems to be a lot to take in, but everything above the lines there are more to help set the initial stage for this RP as well as provide a bit of context and perhaps guidance for characters. Think of it as the starting point of a glossary that we can all add to. I didn't want to simply fill the first post with a novel of background stuff - especially since most of it will be explored (hopefully!) in the RP itself. 

Now as much as I'd like to say I'm the cool mom type, there are some rules which I highly suggest keeping in mind. 

Rules:

-I maintain an Open Door Policy. My inbox here or on Discord (in the event of a Discord being made for this RP) is always open so feel free to come to me with questions, concerns, or anything of the sort. Communication is essential in an RP like this and I will always opt to discuss any details no matter how small they may seem. You have a question? Fire away! You want to plan an event or something? By all means let's hear it and see how we can make it work! My door is always open for my players.
-Since this RP is set in the Harry Potter universe but also a magical academy set in Japan there was discussion of those oft-maligned things known as 'face claims'. A decision was made. This RP will be using realistic claims. This is me suggesting that characters would more likely be from East Asia, Southeast Asia, or even the Indian subcontinent as they would be from North America, South America, or Europe. Those regions have their own schools after all. I am fairly lenient, however, so if you've got a transfer student or a 'military brat' or something, then by all means go for it.
-I will play RP Mother as often as I have to, but I don't want there to be any drama here if it can be avoided. If there are concerns or disagreements that can't be worked out I refer you to rule one. OOC drama is not going to help anyone. I expect everyone to be able to separate IC and OOC. We're all friends in this RP. Or at least we will be.
-There is no post limit at the moment, if the RP moves too quickly this may change. I reserve the right to do so.
-Players are allowed TWO (2) characters MAXIMUM
-While I have storylines planned, I don't have a required speed to see them through. This may well be a slower paced RP at the start. That said, if I see scenes ending or slowing to a crawl, I reserve the right to advance the plot in order to facilitate new posts or the like. I will always give warning when this is happening and I will ask before pulling the trigger so as to give people enough time to finish whatever they might need to do.
-Keep it rather realistic in terms of spell knowledge. First years wouldn't go around using wordless spells or whatnot.
-Characters can be first year boarding students up to year sevens, meaning ages 11 to 17. As such this will be a PG-13 RP in terms of language and the like. I expect everyone to use their best discretion otherwise.
-I'm not a stickler for post quantity, just post quality. This is a casual RP. I don't expect people to write novellas every post. Just make sure there's some effort put in and I'll be happy.

Style

Daisuke likes wearing pretty simple things when he doesn't have to wear his uniform. Usually things like jumpers, jeans and sneakers. He doesn't really go out of his way to look stylish. Usually just practical things. He does have glasses, but those are just for reading. He doesn't want to look like that much of a nerd! Right? Despite that, Daisuke can be seen wearing some graphic design tee's when it's not too cold. Mostly something to do with a particular anime, manga or band.

Background:
Daisuke's love of animals, both magical and non-magical was probably thanks to his upbringing. His mother was a zookeeper, who worked in the secret "magical creature" section. He had grown up being surrounded by animals all his life, and his mom would always bring him along whenever she could. This made him develop a deep sense of care and passion for the animals, and he'd happily explore the entirety of the zoo, seeing everything from Monkeys to Erumpents. His father worked in the Japanese embassy for the Ministry Of Magic. Both of them were elated when they found out their son was going to the Mahoutokoro School of Magic.

Daisuke's is at his third year at the school, and has gotten to know his class mates well and even made a couple of close friends, including fellow housemate Takayuki. Elated to be chosen for House Fū, he embodies the spirit of Byakko quite well, being very caring and selfless not only for animals but to his friends too. He's very fond of helping out whenever and wherever he can. He's fascinated by duels, especially in duelling class, but nothing comes close to his love for anything regarding animals, and he's gained quite the reputation for it as well. Many students come to him when they have a question about their pets or other kinds of creatures. He's very approachable too, and greets everyone with a smile.

Extracurriculars:
He doesn't really do much in terms of extra curricular clubs. He's considering joining the duelling club to get better at him, but he loves watching Quidditch even if he doesn't play it.

Wand:
Hornbeam wand that's 10 and three quarters inches in length. It's core is made of unicorn hair. Below are notes taken from world famous Wandmaker Garrick Ollivander about the wood and core.

"My own wand is made of hornbeam, and so it is with all due modesty that I state that hornbeam selects for its life mate the talented witch or wizard with a single, pure passion, which some might call obsession (though I prefer the term ‘vision’), which will almost always be realised. Hornbeam wands adapt more quickly than almost any other to their owner’s style of magic, and will become so personalised, so quickly, that other people will find them extremely difficult to use even for the most simple of spells. Hornbeam wands likewise absorb their owner’s code of honour, whatever that might be, and will refuse to perform acts – whether for good or ill – that do not tally with their master’s principles. A particularly fine-tuned and sentient wand.

Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may 'die' and need replacing."

Pet:
Daisuke has a Japanese Scops Owl as a pet, called Kotarou, who he uses to write messages backhome as well as feed, care and play with when he can. Kotarou can often be seen on the perch besides Daisuke's bed or flitting about somewhere in the common room.

⚘ Kōjō has his own style, he’s not tied down by the constraints or societal norms that most children adhere to. His style can only be described as loud and flamboyant. While he doesn’t speak as much, his clothes seemingly do it for him. Kōjō never wears the same outfit twice, this includes shoes and all the encompassing accessories. This of course has its stipulations as the school has a dress code and while he cannot directly manipulate it, he can tailor accessories to his will in order to do so. Kōjō likes to wear a crown of flowers usually that relies on the season, which beyond his robe are the only two things that are rather known as his modus operandi. His outfits stem from Yukata or Kimono’s to oversized faux fur coats, the occasional floral blazer/suit ensemble, paired with scarves and shades alike.

Background:
⚘ As compelling as most Wizard stories are, there’s nothing of extravagant substance to the life of Kōjō. His parents were pure-blood wizards through and through. Like most Japanese elders, the couple was of the generation to exude bitter disdain towards any culture other than their own. Their xenophobia went further than just the reaches of Japan, it stained their skin to speak to anyone of muggle born heritage. Half-bloods were a little lest ostracized in their house, but nonetheless, were not treated as highly as other pure-blood families. Much like the House of Black, The House of Kaika believe they were always pure. The mindset being poised and nurtured by the fact that their lineage dates back to the great Shogunates and Daimyō of Feudal Era Japan. Having such nobility and honor brought about from their deep rooted lineage, it was easy to see why Kōjō’s parents found themselves as almost a class higher than the rest. 

Unfortunately, to the dismay of his parents, Kōjō was born a pariah. Now this didn’t mean his parents didn’t love him nor have no capacity to accept his quirks, but it did exempt him from the same path his parents followed had he been born of susceptible mind. Since a young age, it was easy to see that Kōjō was of his own breed. He was unlike the other kids, eccentric in nature, rather than play with other kids he spent most of his time in the garden and woods. Plants and mythical beasts were his closest friends and while his parents still loved him deeply, they left him to his own devices unable to relate and help their child. Yet this didn’t stop them from aiding him with resources to find his mark on the wizarding world, he was destined for greatness in his own image. As the boy grew older and more prominent in the art of magic the more aloof he became. Many saw the boy as flamboyant and a mute, but he was far from being a mute. Kōjō was like a plant: roots to give him a strong foundation, resilient and adaptable to any situation, and reliant on the wind to carry him forward. 

Although something did change when Kōjō was accepted into the Mahoutokoro School of Magic. Once he was sorted into house Sui, it seemed as though he had finally found some place to call home. A budding seed flourished and blossomed into a beautiful flower. While he remained aloof and flamboyant he embraced it and wore it as his armor. With a lack of self-consciousness and no use for conformity, Kōjō was unafraid to show his true colors. Eccentric, quirky, intelligent; he was a culmination of all those things, raw emotion. Nowadays in his seniority, Kōjō runs around being quite the whimsical character. Whether it’s singing aloud or constantly being in motion as he talks in varying tones and pitch. Kōjō can be a loyal and necessary friend if you can get past his bizarre and devout nature.

⚘ Herbology ⚘ It was easy to see why Kōjō would enjoy Herbology. The boy practically grew up in the forest as if he was a forest nymph. His thumb was as green as the rest of his aesthetic, if there were any plant that couldn’t grow he could breathe life into it. Having run amok in forests of all kinds he has accumulated an internal photographic encyclopedia on poisonous and herbal plants alike. That’s not excluding fungi, types of wood, and creatures that resided within these landscapes. Kōjō was one with the planet.

Least Favorite Class:
⚘ Defense Against The Dark Arts ⚘ Kōjō technically has a love hate relationship with the class, it’s difficult for the young sprout to hate anything. Kōjō understands the weight and necessity to learn how to defend oneself properly and protect his classmates. However, that isn’t the reason it’s his least favorite class. The main reason for disliking this class stems from the use of the three forbidden spells, mostly the use of the spell Crucio. The demonstrations on live magical creatures is what dissuades the young boy so much, despite the use of arachnids and other monstrous beast, they’re still live creatures who experience the same pain as humans. Otherwise, Kōjō is perfectly content and attentive to the class. Life is precious, who would want to strip that away from someone or something?

Wand:
⚘ Kōjō’s wand is a perfect, harmonious marriage between Pine wood and Dragon Heartstring. The straight-grained pine wand always chooses an independent, individual master who may be perceived as a loner, intriguing and perhaps mysterious. Pine wands enjoy being used creatively, and unlike some others, will adapt unprotestingly to new methods and spells. As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Being both flamboyant and mysterious is what lends itself to such a befitting wand. 

The wand is 10 inches long with the shape of a normal branch, however the end closest to Kōjō has a spiraling shape that widens in girth to house a translucent crystal. The crystal dictates the mood of the sentient wand and allows Kōjō to communicate with his wand nonverbally. All along the branch are small vein like vines that spiral towards the tip of the wand. In honor of his Japanese culture, small bulbs of cherry blossoms are nestled intermittently along the wand. The bulbs blossom during the proper season or with the discharge of a powerful spell.

Background:
Having previously attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the Academy of Broom Flying on holidays, Kalder was less than pleased to learn of his fathers' intent for his transfer. There was a lot of resistance at first, but after a few shouting matches, passive aggressive dinner banter, and the occasional argument, he finally conceded. The only other option would be to send his younger sister, and as much as he disliked the idea of leaving all his friends behind he found he couldn't do that to her, so he packed his bags, polished his Asian language skills, and made plans to attend Mahoutokoro.

Luckily for him, he would be introduced to Kensuke's daughter, so he wasn't completely alone, but the culture shock and many differences took a lot of getting used to. He also didn't appreciate the looks he got, as he stuck out like a sore thumb among the Asian populace. The girl also had her own group of friends, so Kalder often found himself turning in early or reading by himself. Still, he enjoyed the values they had compared to his own dog-eat-dog family, and his home had nothing on the sights.

Overall, he is still somewhat embittered by the experience. The only reason he hasn't tried to go back to Hogwarts is because of Demetria Graves.

Background:
Demetria Graves had the happiest childhood a kid could ever dream of. She grew up in a comfortable and cozy middle-class house in the small state of Rhode Island, USA; on a good neighborhood and with the love of everybody around her. Her Muggle father Michael was a hard-working man that earned his living in the construction business, but always made sure to put his family first. Meanwhile, stay-at-home witch mother Raquelle was one of the kindest, sweetest people you could meet, and she raised her children to be the same way. It came to everyone as a horrible shock when sweet, gentle Raquelle was diagnosed with leukemia when Demi was 13. After battling until her last breath and two weeks after Demi's 14th birthday, Raquelle had passed away. Her family was destroyed, especially Demi, who had suffered this traumatic experience having entered the difficult teenage years. The Graves slowly moved on, closer than ever and constantly keeping Raquelle's memory close.

The siblings had always known of their mother's magical background and had started showing signs of magical abilities since childhood, so it came as no surprise when they each received their letter after their eleventh birthday. They had been accepted at Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but had decided to transfer to Hogwarts on their second year to educate themselves in Raquelle's Alma Mater and see a little bit more of the world. However, in her fifth year, Demi had found her life changed. She’d managed to score a coveted Quidditch scholarship for the prestigious Mahoutokoro School of Magic, located in Minami Iwo Jima, Japan. Her hard work in the field had translated to her becoming the Chi Quidditch captain this current year. And the cherry on top? She’d found love in the form of that ridiculously handsome, unique and special Brit named Kalder Sigourney.

Having been living with only her father and brothers since the age of 14, Demi has toughened up a little and her maternal skills have flourished more. Though she is sweet, she has a quick temper and tends to be impulsive while angry. If wrong, she quickly apologizes and tries to make amends. At school, she somehow finds the perfect balance to shine in both the field and her studies, and has earned high marks since beginning her education. On the field, Demi's sweetness vanishes instantly, only to be replaced by a deep fierceness and hunger for victory. She's as fast as lightning on a broom, and with a strong whack of her right hand can easily manipulate a Bludger into whatever direction she pleases. The Nahm family hails from South Korea, the most prolific of the Korean wizardry families. Seo-yeon is the third in the current crop of family members to attend Mahoutokoro, though her elder cousins have defiantly and bluntly told her that she is a “Nahm in Name Only” among other harsh comments that she is personally not very fond of. That said, her father has told her countless times that he’s proud of her and looks forward to what she’ll achieve. 

Style:
Such as her personality, Seo-yeon’s appearance is generally conservative rather than liberal. Her hair is neat whether it is long-flowing or strewn in a ponytail.

Background:
Seo-yeon is the product of the love affair between a renowned wizard by the name of Nahm Keun-suk and a muggle by the name of Kwon Soo-jung. However, Soo-jung has little to no knowledge about her birth mother due to the fact that she was raised, for the most part, exclusively by her father with very rare occasions where he’d be willing to talk about her mother for a period that was substantial. But given that connection that was mired in mystery Seo-yeon has always had a quiet curiosity about her mother and what exactly happened to her. Beyond that, her childhood pretty much was one that was formulaic by wizarding world terms; she was discovered to have the same gifts as her father and was admitted in the same fashion that he had been in his youth.

Her attendance at Mahoutokoro was a testament to her personality with her studious, quiet, and kind nature resulting her assignment into the same house her father had been part of in his youth: Sui. The definition of Seo-yeon and who she would become was generally echoed in sentiments in reference to her father, a fact that she grew to detest as she felt that she was more than the daughter of a renowned wizard and an individual of all her own; she wanted to prove that, no matter how close she mirrored her father. However, such respect would be difficult given her father's long stretch of accomplishments and no matter how much she excelled the comparison would be difficult to shake completely.

Seo-yeon is at the core, an introvert; quiet, constantly in thought, socially awkward, and ultimately prefers her books over socializing with groups of people in general. But Seo-yeon isn’t elitist, self-absorbed, or pretentious in the slightest and generally actually does like people as evident by her shows of kindness and respect for pretty much every student in Mahoutokoro. Despite the shadow of the incidents that occured when she was a child hanging over her she prefers to look at things optimistically and goes by a philosophy that humanity as a whole is inherently good. This can seem naïve to her more cynical and outspoken classmates, but even the most condescending remark won’t change her disposition or beliefs. This trait, her conviction, is probably her strongest aspect of her personality and likely one of her most alluring. If Seo-yeon is anything to go by it is clear that introverted and shy does not equate to weak and toothless.

However, Seo-yeon will not remain completely silent in the shadow of adversity; she’s opinionated, slightly sarcastic, logical, and pedantic. If she sees something as wrong she will kindly remark it and confront it with a passion that isn’t expected from Seo-yeon’s bookish nature. However, if she does offend someone with her stances she will be sure to resort to apologetic accords as she hates it when she does react unkindly; sometimes she forgets herself and hates how her train of thought can become overzealous towards others. This is especially so when situations escalate into physical aggression, a form of expression that intimidates Seo-yeon beyond anything else and in the face of it might freeze out of anxiety or fear. She’ll try to be an arbiter, but when that fails she is afraid of the violence that could come out reeling from an encounter.

Next to dueling, Flying is most likely Seo-yeon’s bane of existence. It isn’t that the intricacies of flying are difficult for her, but rather that the anxieties of flying make the experience absolutely unbearable. One of her classmates once asked her why this was the case to which she explained everything that could go wrong during flying and the penalties for falling from several kilometers in the sky. She’s not a fan.

Rumi is a slender young lady of Japanese and German descent, standing at five feet, seven inches tall and weighing in at a little over one-hundred fifty pounds. Her skin is usually free of any blemishes, an exception being the vertical scar on her upper lip which she covers up with makeup. Her natural hair is bone straight, dark brown, and shoulder length. You'll usually see her rocking a blonde undercut, however, as she prefers to bleach it. Rumi carries herself elegantly with good posture, long confident strides and her head held high. She often looks taller than her height of 5"7 considering that she's always wearing heels when she has the chance. 

Much of Rumi is an assertion of androgyny, from her undercut to her short nails. She does love striking outfits, though, especially when she wants to make a scene, in which case she'll pair the outfit with her usual bright colored lipstick, matching nails and painfully high heels. When she isn't dolled up, she enjoys wearing men's clothing, successfully proving that she can pull off both stunning skirts and dresses as well as charming suits or joggers and sneakers. She likes to look her best everyday, and usually spends about two hours each morning making sure that there's nothing out of place. It's rare to see her in a state of disarray as she believes that she should always look prepared and presentable, especially when she's the most frazzled.

Background:
Rumi was born in December, the third and last child of Half-Blood wizards Tanaka Aimi and Tanaka Hiroya. The young girl grew up in a moderate sized home in Kawasaki with their mother's parents. While Rumi and her two elder brothers knew of their family's magical roots, the trio never really took an interest in magic, especially when they came to realize, much to their parents' dismay, that the two brothers didn't possess any magical abilities. Instead, the siblings spent the majority of their time playing harmful pranks on their friends and the people around the city, finding joy in making others laugh and let loose. Rumi had always assumed that she would be like her brothers, and was very surprised to find out that she was different. When eleven year old Rumi received her Mahoutokoro letter, she cried for hours, not looking forward to having to spend so much time away from her brothers and friends. 

The first year at Mahoutokoro proved to be very difficult for Rumi; she was a master procrastinator and a slacker by nature, which ultimately resulted in her performing poorly in the majority of her classes. This continued for the next few years, the young woman just barely making it through each level. While all of her peers knew that she was one of the best people to come to for advice, Quidditch lessons, or gut-busting jokes, they also knew that she wasn't the one to count on when it came to homework. In fact, the only class Rumi seems to excel in is astronomy, which comes as no surprise to those who know her; her head is always in the stars.

The true match for a beech wand will be, if young, wise beyond his or her years, and if full-grown, rich in understanding and experience. Beech wands perform very weakly for the narrow-minded and intolerant. When properly matched, the beech wand is capable of a subtlety and artistry rarely seen in any other wood, hence its lustrous reputation.

Unicorn
Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard. Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may 'die' and need replacing.

CJ was born to Colonel Christian Joseph Logan II and Kelly Logan in Okinawa, Japan (or Camp Kinser). Growing up, CJ and his brother were not aware of the magical lineage that their mother's blood held. Nobody knew that Kelly Logan (née Armstrong) had family and relatives that were alumni of schools like Hogwarts. Not even Christian Joseph Logan II knew that his wife was one of those magical folks up until that fateful day with CJ.

Doing boy things and roughhousing with his brothers one day, CJ was being beat up on by his older brother (like always). The elder Logan brother was just sitting and beating up on him as was tradition in the Logan household. Out of desperateness, CJ made a wick basket levitate and whack his brother in the face. The older Logan sibling was dealt with quite handily and spent a whopping one minute whining about the basket that somehow attacked him. Of course, Christian Joseph Logan II and Kelly Logan both witnessed the magic occur. There really was no other explanation for Kelly's beloved wick basket becoming an assault weapon besides the fact that magic was involved.

Thorough investigation took place, and it was discovered that Kelly's family all had magical blood running through them, which made CJ and his brothers half-bloods. Only CJ was the only person to realize his powers though. Realizing his newfound abilities, Kelly and Christopher Joseph Logan II had no choice but to send him to Mahoutokoro. It was crazy enough that he was able to do magical things, but to leave that potential untapped would be an even bigger disservice to CJ. And off he went, nearly a grown-ass man who had to integrate himself with first levels at the school.

Personality:
The word frequently used to describe Kayda is benevolent. She equally cares for her classmates, teachers and the rest of Mahoutokoro. Treating strangers like her beloved family is typical behavior. She’ll hold a conversation with anyone who seems interested in listening. Learning the importance of communication from a young age by her father. She’s fluent in many foreign languages and she’s only improving and increasing that knowledge. Well-read in many different topics. Her articulation also correlates to her computer and typewriter abilities. When writing for fun, the newspaper or other coursework. Despite her wealth of knowledge and very organized lifestyle, she’s far from a puritan. She’s playful around others and isn’t opposed to having a good time. Known for being the best at keeping secrets, believing occasional mild rebellion and rule-breaking acts are necessary for personal growth, finding occasional white lies harmless.

Though it doesn't show from her personality or activities. She's physically fragile, which dissuades her from playing Quidditch herself. Sometimes having mild to strong allergic reactions to certain types of pollen. She has a passion and general interest for artistry, whether it be painting, sculptures or crafts. Though preferring peace and quiet for contemplation, over hearing music that breaks her concentration. She can be surprisingly intense in combative scenarios, inheriting her more competitive nature from her father. You can occasionally see a fiery spark in her eyes, when playing a simple game of cards, or even when watching Quidditch matches from the benches. She’s also very spiritually open, a little too eager to express the importance of finding oneself. Regularly practicing mysticism during her free time and sharing her tips on self improvement through her own newspaper column.

She has a tendency to get little self-indulgent. From gobbling up nearly any candy offered, her hatred of peppermint aside, due to her sweet tooth cravings. From keeping up her positive image contributing to her finicky fashion sense. Despite not being particularly vain, judgmental or even interested in others outwardly appearance. Though she tries her best, sometimes her advice comes across as pretentious. Some will find her behavior quirky, from her staying up late at night and able to function with pizzazz will minimal sleep. Just don’t wake her up early, when she’s sleeping, unless it’s important. She’ll be moody, before waking up fully. From catching her long conversations with her pet snake. Doesn’t try getting romantically involved with others, even if she finds them attractive. Cautious about dating and showing off the worst side of herself, something inherited by her mother, having a relentless jealousy streak and becoming very possessive.

Background:
Kayda Takahashi was her mother’s second blessing, her soon-to-be husband being her first. The mother came from a damaged and abusive family, even becoming a prostitute in her early adolescence. Never expecting one of her most drunken clients to become each other’s star crossed lovers. Due to her infertility and previous miscarriage, he was patient with her request to wait for their marriage, considering it too special to do without reason, finally doing so after Kayda’s birth. Her father seemed to have a Crane’s fortune, and an actual fortune from winning a lottery while abroad in North America. Studious, highly intelligent and excelled magically, spending most of his days traveling around the globe. When he wasn’t teaching acting as a well regarded substitute teacher at multiple magical schools. His biggest problem was his socially awkwardness and absolute shortcomings at keeping loving relationships until meeting her. They clicked straight away, living together before their anniversary.  

Kayda was their only child. Receiving all their affection and attention, but life was anything but ordinary. She couldn’t get attached to anyone. Going from one home to another, on their father’s whims. Spending years traveling around with her parents. She still had to be on her best behavior, for the strangers they constantly passed by and interacted with. Instead of having hobbies or making any friends aside from her father’s pet serpents. She was heavily encouraged into reading and writing, by her mother and father. Being taught about different types of magic, language and culture. Before fully understanding how to perform such skills on her own. Homeschooled by her father, because they didn’t want her out of their sight. Worried for her safety around other kids, both bullied themselves during their youth. She suffered numerous health related problems, that was from her mother’s side of the family. An ancestry, fragile as glass. Filled with dread and despairing thoughts, when she got deathly ill, fearful that they’d lose her…

However, Kayda grew up happily and eventually she was introduced into spiritual and fantastical, even by magical standards by her mother. Spending days at Buddhist Temples and Judeo-Christian churches and many other places, doing volunteer work and allowing her to socialize. Her parents only argument ever stemmed from allowing Kayda to go to a proper magical school. Her father adamantly denying this, despite Kayda’s and her mother wanting it. Tragically, the mother’s secret past that she hadn’t once spoken about to the point she’d nearly forgotten. She had killed a man, stabbed through their neck. He had aggressively put his hands on one of the dancers, threatening to rape her. This incident was stopped from her action, but it unknowingly became a ghost that haunted her, until she joined him under the ground. Coincidentally, that man’s uncle was a twisted and vengeful soul. He ended up obsessively hunting her like a witch. Finally crossing paths at a supermarket. Where she was set ablaze by his magical attack...

Her father was never quite the same, despite continuing his globe trotting routine today. Only able to accept his wife’s last request, allowing Kayda to enroll in a magical school. Teaching how to protect herself, working against her own frailty. Becoming powerful and wise enough to avoid her mother's fate. One last caveat being that Kayda accepted his present for her 11th birthday, a little Garter Snake named Erebus. Having been around since she could remember and the friendliest to Kayda. That day she learned some of her father’s well kept secrets and the value of keeping them. 

Comparatively speaking, her four years at Mahoutokoro, were much more straightforward and were the happier years of her life. Making more close friends and acquaintances every following year, from all ages and schools. The worst experiences were from a seldom broken heart from young love. Striving for excellence in her classes and respect from her teachers and peers. You’d never suspect her past, nor would ever hear about it, even if you asked...

Aspen: Rowan wood has always been much-favoured for wands, because it is reputed to be more protective than any other, and in my experience renders all manner of defensive charms especially strong and difficult to break. It is commonly stated that no Dark witch or wizard ever owned a rowan wand, and I cannot recall a single instance where one of my own rowan wands has gone on to do evil in the world. Rowan is most happily placed with the clear-headed and the pure-hearted, but this reputation for virtue ought not to fool anyone - these wands are the equal of any, often the better, and frequently out-perform others in duels.

Fenghaung Feather: Those who are wise, hard-working, diligent, considerate and peace-loving would have this wand core. Having such a wand cores suggests that one is hard-working and humble, as well as being attentive and persistent. Such wizards and witches with this wand core are naturally lucky in love as well as in life, often getting into mischief or out of situations that would normally cost them a limb or their lives due to not only the Feather's natural luck but also the strength of its defensive magic. These wand cores were most common among wizards and witches in Japan and China and was almost never seen in Europe and in places outside of Japan or is for this reason that most wand makers of Europe and England were unaware of this wand core's existence until quite recently.

Eko is a young man that knows himself. He has his own style, generally wearing muggle hoodie styled clothes and a headband. He is only 11 and has a lot of growing to do but early indications seem to point out that he'll have the same curse that his brother, Kairo, has which is late development and the cursed short stature. He stands at 4'9" and hasn't grown a whole lot in recent years. But apart from this Eko holds himself to a high standard in terms of his Appearance and it's his biggest pet peeve about himself and others. Eko has a scar on his right shoulder from the bullet that struck him as a child, and another fainter scar above his left hip.

Personality/Backstory:  
A rough beginning is one of the best ways to describe Eko. His early life was spent rather normally, the boy spoiled by his parents and his older brother. He had no worries in the world and was a happy go lucky sort of kids, never getting into trouble and making those that him smile on more than one occasion. But like with his older brother things took a turn for the worse when he was four years old. His family was stopped by a gang that were in a turfwar with a rival gang and Eko along with his mother and father were shot. Luckily for the young boy he was able to get to a hospital in time and survived the ordeal, unlike his father and mother. 

After a few days in recovery Eko was approached by his Doctor, a Social Worker and two other adults who looked like a mix of nervous and sad. The Doctor only stayed to change the Medication drip before leaving and Eko was told that he would be a part of a new family. The Bueller's who were the two adults in the room, who explained that they were good friends with his Mom and Dad. The rawness of the loss was still fresh Eko's mind and he knew he had tears falling down his face as the Bueller's comforted him. With his eventual agreement, a promise to look for his brother, and healing Eko was taken to Japan where the Bueller's worked as Diplomats from America. They had an impressive Castle-esque home but the main shock was seeing a large eared creature wearing a smart and handsome suit opened the gate that ran around the home and escorted them in.

At that age Eko just along with it, not asking to many questions and as such was introduced to Magic like most other Wizarding Children. He took to the magical world rather well and met many other Pureblood families in Asia. He recovered from his trauma faster than many thought he would, the only nightmares the boy having were of his brother being hurt. Eko buried his head into books and learned quite a bit, as well as studied languages which he seemed to have a talent for. 

Life continued and soon enough when Eko turned 7 it was time to enroll him in the day school program at Mahoutokoro. Eko LOVED it there, and was fascinated by all of the magic that went on. He returned to his happy go lucky self and usually brightened up whichever corner of the Castle he was in. Halfway through the year however when the 7 year old was flown back to the mainland his 'parents' told him that his brother had been found.

The next couple of hours were a blur of emotions for the boy as he was reunited with his older brother at last. The heartwarming reunion eliciting plenty of tears from all involved. Eko refused to return to the school despite how much he loved it in order to stay with his brother and as time passed Eko was able to teach his brother about the wizarding world and played a big part in Kairo's healing. 

Things slowly returned to normal for both Ahmadi children and as Kairo got better and better and enrolled in Mahoutokoro not long after. Eko as well returned to the Day School part of the Castle and as he matured more and more showed a lot of promise in Defensive Magic along with an overprotective side, especially when it came to bullies. He stuck up for the underdog whenever he could, and never once made fun of anyone, his moral compass stopping the possibility to be mean to anyone. That wasn't to say he was innocent however, he had seen some of the worse the world had to offer when he was younger but he refused to let that define him. He became enthralled with Healing magic and Defense Against the Dark Arts and knew that that subject would be his favorite when he was old enough to attend the School proper next year.

And now that year has come, and Eko couldn't be more excited.

Aspen: Wand-quality aspen wood is white and fine-grained, and highly prized by all wand-makers for its stylish resemblance to ivory and its usually outstanding charmwork. The proper owner of the aspen wand is often an accomplished duellist, or destined to be so, for the aspen wand is one of those particularly suited to martial magic. An infamous and secretive eighteenth-century duelling club, which called itself The Silver Spears, was reputed to admit only those who owned aspen wands. In my experience, aspen wand owners are generally strong-minded and determined, more likely than most to be attracted by quests and new orders; this is a wand for revolutionaries.

Griffin Feather: Those who are true, skillful, stubborn, protective, strong-willed, logical, observant, perceptive and witty would have this wand core. Having such a wand core suggests that you have a strong will as well as a strong heart. You are clever and witty, as well as observant, able to observe and perceive things that others would otherwise overlook or would not comprehend or see the connection to. Having such a strong will makes this wand core one of the best to use in high-impact and blunt force magic, such as Dueling magic. But this wand core also works well with those who are skilled in DADA, Elemental Magic (Air and Earth) Occlumency, Legilimency, and magic that requires a lot of strategy, mind over matter, thinking and planning.

Favourite Lesson:  
Charms. This is mainly due to Kairo's obsession with dueling and his love for outthinking his opponents. He sees Charms as a more useful and impressive style of magic than Transfiguration.

Least Favourite Lesson:  
History of Magic as he can't stand sitting still without practicing with his Wand. Will usually be seen doing homework from other classes while the teacher drones on. With Transfiguration coming in as second as Korbin just doesn't respect the style of magic.

The first thing people normally notice about Kairo is his stature, standing at a rather unimpressive 4 foot and 11 inches. Other than his short stature people tend to notice his eyes next, a very intriguing variant of green as faint flecks of gold makes Kairo's eyes a spectacle sometimes to those he meets. Coupled with the fact that Kai does most of his communicating with those eyes it's no wonder he considers them to be his most distinctive  trait, even if everyone else only sees a midget. Puberty has been a fickle friend thus far for Korbin in that it seems to go much slower than for other kids his age, a fact that can be seen just from how small the 14 year old is. Indeed the Hospital Wing Matron at one time thought the boy was malnourished and was surprised to find how fit and athletic the Sui student was, Kai being quite well toned and wiry. With that being said the combination of his eyes, light brown hair, a younger face, and a tanned Indonesian complexion made him hear the term, 'adorable' on more than one occasion which annoys the boy to no end. He personally can't stand his appearance and finds it girlish which is compounded by the fact that his good friend keeps sending him skin potions (which he has to admit do work) but other than various charms there's nothing he can do about changing said appearance. Besides being pimple-less does have its perks. He did have scars, two wounds on his left side near his ribcage, and another across his lower stomach. These three would appear to be blade wounds. He also had burn scar on his right shoulder. Along with some faint scars on his forearms and wrist from various cuts and scrapes.

Personality:  
Kairo is an enigma, as he carefully hides most of his emotions underneath a mask of shyness and uncaring. He keeps himself cleaned and immaculate whenever possible, always preparing his clothes for the next day and putting his own style to his robes by wearing a scarf during all seasons, leaving it loose when it was hot and loose when it was cold.

He's articulate, charming, and calm when dealing with Professors, except for the History of Magic Professor, and shows himself to be a model student whenever he can. But, that's not the real Kai, underneath that mask is a determined, calculating individual who has known nothing but a drive to excel and build contacts in order to survive. Mistakes are punished harshly by himself and as such Kairo is a perfectionist. He takes to ignoring those he finds below him, highly critical, a bit arrogant, devious, scheming, sly, and calculative. All in all he's also defensive about letting people get close, hard to talk to in passing conversation, and selfish. 

With his upbringing on the streets he has been taught that friendships are weaknesses which has honestly made Kai into a young man used to being alone. He has a secret however, puberty being a slow train for him still didn't stop the hormonal changes that came his way and unlike his dorm mates which became obsessed with various females of his grade, Korbin found that he instead preferred taking peaks at those same dorm mates. He knew this meant he was different and deals with a constant self-loathing about this situation as he knows such is frowned upon. And with no one to really talk to about it he just keep it to himself.

Classwork is hit or miss for Kai, the Sui doing simply OK in every class but Charms, Defense Against The Dark Arts, and Arithmancy. It's not that he doesn't perform well in those other classes as he -is- a perfectionist but it's clear to most that he truly excels in the classes mentioned. In dueling situations or during intense matches of Wizard's Chess Korbin's core personality is shown the most, as the Sui uses physical dodging and diving to tire out his opponent, then using his talent in Charms to lock down true understanding of his opponents fighting style before then taking advantage of the weaknesses he's found. His duels always last the longest but the end result tends to be the same, as Kairo literally drains his opponent of magical, emotional,  and physical strength before going in for the kill, calm and collected as before. In chess the boy is a cold methodical tactician, attacking the board in multiple places at once, taking into account his opponents responses and then adopting a blistering offensive that cripples the unfortunate soul that went against him all the while showing no emotion on his face and a fire in his eyes that some of his opponents have called disturbing.

Despite all of these things going against him Korbin does have some redeeming qualities, his heritage giving him decent looks, his constant exercise making him rather athletic, he's adaptable to various situation, and is quite loyal despite his rugged exterior. He's a mountain you have to climb up before seeing the good points but should someone scale that mountain the Sui boy could make a very good friend which is what he's secretly looking to be anyway.

Backstory:  
Kairo was born in the Indonesian Capital of Jakarta to two rather different parents. One was a ordinary Emergency Room Resident and the other was a Wizard who worked as a Diplomat for the Southeastern Asia Ministry. But unlike some secrets that marriages can hold onto Kai's father made it known the moment he asked for his wife's hand in marriage. Said wife, Adiya after the initial shock agreed to the Marriage anyway and was introduced to the world of Magic proper. 

Kairo was born 3 years later in the same Hospital Adiya worked in. He came into the world screaming and hollering but loved. That love continued throughout the boys early years, though he had to share with his younger brother who came just another 3 years after. He had a rather happy childhood, growing up in the Islamic faith, and with his Mother's insistence developed a strong work ethic towards his studies. His father, Qatarh had already registered the accidental magic his son did at various times and knew that he would eventually have to be told of the magical world but he and Kairo's mother continued putting it off.

Unfortunately for all of them that was a mistake. When Kairo was 7 years old the age that he would be able to attend Mahoutokoro as a day student the family was walking towards one of their more favored restaurants they were stopped by a local gang. The gang itself was of a Hindu background and despised the more Arabic/Islamic families that lived on the opposite street. Conflict had been growing and it reached a fever pitch the night before the Ahmadi family decided to eat out. One of the Hindu Lieutenants was gunned down by the Islamic gang and the Ahmadi's would pay retribution... Before Qatarh could react and shield his family bullets flew, the sound echoing in Kairo's young ears. Before he knew what had really happened he was cowering on the ground with his head held underneath his hands crying. He could hear his younger brother screaming near him but some sort of survival instinct took over his limbs and the boy sprinted away, only looking back to see his entire family bleeding out all over the ground and the gangsters hoisting assault weapons chuckling and pointing at Kai. 

That started the dark period of Kairo's life, and he spent the next three years living on the street. Streetlife was not kind to the boy who managed to get his fair share of scars. Both physical and mental but it hardened him as well. He became much more calculative, and by the time he was a well known trickster, relying on his cunning and tactics to survive instead of his physical strength. He made contacts with the various businessmen for favors and even led a pack of other orphaned kids who operated as messengers and spies for various gangs. The one place Kairo felt safe was a Motel whose owner, Ai'isha became a motherly figure to Kai. He was often allowed to stay in one of the unused rooms. Ai'isha taught the boy her love of languages and Kai found he was a very quick study, his mind quick and ready to learn. 

Settling into a routine, Kairo's life was interrupted again when after a bad nightmare and subsequent walk around the block the then 10 year old was approached by two men wearing weird cloaks. They identified themselves as Police and told him that they had been searching for him since the fateful day 3 years ago. Naturally Kairo was skeptical but after playing over the pros and cons of listening to this man out decided to play along. The tale they spun was impressive to say the least, telling him that his brother had survived the shooting and was adopted by another family, a rather rich family at that and that Kairo was thought to be dead or abducted. But during the Nightmare Kairo had used Magic... Whatever that was and was able to be tracked. At the end of the tale Kai had simply rolled his eyes and stated to walk off before he heard some weird language spoken and then his body freeze up entirely. The two men then walked over to him and one patted him on the head. "Just relax, we're going to take you to get checked out."

Checked out turned out to be a full physical by a Doctor wearing weirder robed than the two men that abducted him, and after that thorough examination Kai was led to a white room with a single bed. Sighing the boy punched the wall and cursed himself for not running the second the two men approached him. He continued to fume until the door opened and the Doctor from before came in with someone small hiding behind his legs and two other adults hovering at the door. Confused, Kai narrowed his eyes ready for a trick but wasn't ready to see the little person peak around the Doctor and lock eyes with him. It was like looking into his nightmares, the same cloudy brown eyes that reminded Kairo of his Father. His little brother had grown but it was obviously him and with a strangled cry of shock and disbelief Kai threw himself off the bed and ran over to the boy who was now crying and running towards Kai as well...

After the heartwarming reunion Kai was released from Medical Care and into the care of the Pureblooded Bueller family who had been good friends with Qatarh and Adiya and worked at the Ministry with Qatarh. Kairo was introduced to a brand new world in Japan, the House that the Harada family lived in large and impressive. But the real heart stopper was when he was introduced to the world of magic, rather unceremoniously as well since at one moment they were in the Hospital doorway and then after an unpleasant feeling of being squished they showed up in front of a huge Castle like home filled with hedgerows and gardens guarded by an Iron door. That same gate was opened by a short creature with huge ears and wearing an impressive suit coat. Kairo knew his jaw was on the ground and would have fainted if not for the odd sense of all of this being true and right. 

It took quite a bit of time to get Kai used to not sleeping on the streets and to his new life in general but he made good progress which was helped by the presence of his Brother. He was told the whole story of his father being a Wizard and explained the accidental magic that he himself had used which made him a Wizard as well. That entire rest of the year was spent preparing Kai to attend some school for Asian Witches and Wizards called Mahoutokoro. Which Eko already attended. Kai dived into the books with a thirst for knowledge that impressed his new parents. It was a way for Kai to try and forget everything he had gone through in his life thus far and to focus on the future. He was take to get his school supplies which included his wand and it was then that Kairo decided to become the best Wizard he could.

Kai attended the school and was sorted into the Sui House. He was a bit antisocial at first and rocketed to first place in his studies for his year and as thought of as a shy bookworm. He shocked everyone however when he picked up Wizard Chess and became a brutal competitor to even the upper year students, the boy showing a gift for strategy and being completely unemotional. It threw a lot of people off how methodical and business like the first year could be while absolutely obliterating his opponent. Other than his Chess Skills and schoolwork however he wasn't known for anything else, and was mostly a loner, never really seen with another student or even smiling, rather just always reading a book with his brow furrowed and ignoring his peers.

Second year was a little different, Kai now used to the Wizarding World and smarter as well about the way things worked. He continued playing Chess, and receiving good grades but also joined the Dueling Club, an area that he again excelled at. He constantly challenged older students, getting beaten over and over again but also getting stronger each and every time. He started running every morning, and working on his reflexes, as well as making his own sort of obstacle course that simulated duking, dodging, and jumping spells. He put everything he had into the Dueling Club, even letting his grades slip a little in classes he didn't respect like Transfiguration and History of Magic. And by the end of the year while he wasn't at the top of his class he -was- easily the best Duelist out of the younger years.

Third Year is when the Sui came out of his shell a little, and started talking more to his Dorm mates and House mates. He found he was very hard to be friends with and most of those he talked to were content with just being acquaintances instead of true friends. But it was a step in the right direction for Kai who simply continued on with his routine. Pouring everything into the Dueling Club and practicing his strategy and tactics in Chess Club which he was quickly becoming a Master at. It was almost funny, Kai's overall stats on the Dueling table were 4-22 but he was known as a very good fighter. And it was proved that year when with a mixture of great reflexes and unorthodox strategies the Sui beat a 6th year student. It was a sure feat but it was one of the weaker 6th years and Kai still lost much more than he won but his style was getting more and more refined but better yet his eye for spotting his opponents own strengths and weaknesses were getting better and better each time he limped towards the Hospital Wing to be put back together again after being shot into the ground by the upper classmen.

But now it was time for Fourth Year and Kai while usually ok with being a loner was looking forward to making at least one true friend and perhaps start exploring his feelings he had locked up with a key from his earlier pre-teen and teen years.

Seon 'Seonny' Mi-Cho
Has the nickname Seonny(Sunny) due to her name and also her optimistic personality
Per Korean and Family tradition Seon learned from her parents, she goes by her last name. The only people able to call her Mi-Cho are those that are seventh years and older than her, her professors, and if she were to ever be in a relationship, her romantic partner. Her family doesn't follow the usual, all those you are well acquainted with can call you by your given name, only those they are in a close relation with. Despite these groups of people being able to call her by her given name, most people, even her professors, just call her by her nickname Seonny as she is known by this by almost a lot of people due to her friendly, outgoing, extremely positive nature.

If someone else were to call her Min-Cho that didn't fit any of the groups that could it would be seen as very rude by Seon, but she is understanding when it comes to those that don't know better so she brushes it off the first few times people who don't know better say it. But she's had people call her by her given name just to anger her before, although it doesn't anger her in the way they want. Typically it has been other quidditch players trying to get her to mess up or physically attack them but it just makes her more determined to win.

Seon Mi-Cho stands at roughly 5'4" and weighs 95lbs. As a metamorphmagus many people question what she looks like naturally and if she really has just changed her whole appearance but all Seon changes is her hair color and/or style. She always has her smooth porcelain skin with a few small scars from years of Quidditch and Baking. Seon's eyes are a medium-dark chocolate brown that is littered with small flakes of gold and are always sparkling brightly. Her hair is naturally straight and dark brown, she will occasionally sport her hair natural like that but really it all depends on how she is feeling that day and if she is feeling adventurous or not.

Style
Seon doesn't have any specific style, she tends to just do her own thing and go with how she is feeling that day. One day she may feel like wearing full black with a leather jacket and have bright colored hair while the next she is in a pale button up silk top with a flowing skirt and natural hair. Seon just enjoys all loads of clothing types and colors, her only main thing about the clothing is that it has to be comfortable so she never wears heels or anything too tight.



History
A chance meeting is what some would call how Seon's parents met, but they call it fate. Sean's father, Seon Young-Jae, was a pure-blood wizard and a professional quidditch player for the South Korean team and her mother, Seon Chun-Hei, was a nijū who just so happened to be the sister of a nijū-born wizard on Young-Jae's Quidditch team. Her father went to his teammate's house with a few other of their teammates and were just talking and enjoying some alcohol when her mother arrived to visit her brother. The two say they fell in love the moment they saw each other and the rest of their story just wrote itself from their. Years of dating later they got married then sometime later Seon was born. 

Right from the start Seon was special, her parents noticing that upon her hair finally coming in, it never seemed to stay one color and upon a trip to a healer, per her freaking out mother's request, the family found out Seon was a Metamorphmagus. A rare trait for their beautiful daughter, her parents couldn't ask for anything more. Or so they thought. It was when Seon was five that they found out they were expecting again and the parents couldn't be happier. They had always wanted Seon to have a sibling and now it was happening. But unfortunately not all good things last... Seon's mother miscarried and it devastated the parents as they also found out that they wouldn't be able to have anymore kids. 

The couple tried to keep what happened a secret from Seon but she found out, she overheard the whispered discussions and the crying from her parents. She knew she'd lost a potential sibling and that her parents wouldn't ever be able to give her one. Seon didn't mind though, she just wished to see her parents happy again; so one night when she heard faint sounds of her mother crying Seon went to their room and crawled onto the bed with them. Grabbing their hands in her small hands she gave them a small gentle squeeze and smiled at her parents. 'Don't cry' She said 'Don't be sad about what could have been. Brother or Sister wouldn't want to see you both crying, they'd want us to be happy and live on for them. I have you both and that is all I will ever need, so please don't cry because you can't give me a sibling. I just want you two to smile. I love you both.'

Neither parent knew what had come over their young daughter but they just pulled her in and held her close, giving thanks for the blessing she was. From that night on she always just had such a positive outlook on everything and seemed to know the right thing to say when things looked grim. Seon was a girl who never failed to smile everyday and would bring joy with her wherever she went, always making sure others were happy too even if it hurt her. She was just too nice sometimes that people took advantage of it but it never deterred her from remaining positive. It was just one of the unique things about young Seon.

Growing up she was unique and had definitely grown to be her own person at a young age but that didn't stop her from picking up a few traits from her parents. She always showed a genuine interest in both of their careers, her father's job as a professional Quidditch player held a level of excitement that Seon never saw anywhere else and her mother's job as a Pastry Chef showed a level of precision and patience that Seon didn't find as much of anywhere else. It was through them both that she gained her passions for cooking, baking, and the sport of quidditch. The parents often joking that those are the only things she got from them as she developed other traits that neither parent really had.

Seon wasn't just good at the things her parents taught her but also became extremely skilled in school and learning. The girl being able to take in loads of information and understand it a lot easier than either of her parents ever were able to do. They loved it though, supporting her desire to learn by buying loads of books and if she wanted to, buying her an item for a hobby. The only hobby she ever got into outside of cooking and quidditch was playing the guitar though so her parents only ever had to buy her one thing in relation to a hobby. Of all the things she learns, guitar is definitely not her quickest to be picked up but now that she is a seventh year she is quite skilled with it. But coming into her seventh year something has changed drastically with the girl, although it has been a change that has been happening over a period of time it has finally come to head in her life.

The change started due to the amount of sweets Seon was always around. Though she was never too big, Seon had been on the bigger side. At first she didn't really mind it, not giving a care for what others thought as she entered her first year at Mahoutokoro. But then the teasing got a bit worse, not by too much in her first three years but come fourth year it became really bad for Seon. So bad that she began to request her mother to send the nijū magazines that she read and on occasion Seon read for fun. Telling her mother that it was because she wanted to have them as a 'easy read'. But in reality she began using different diet plans from them to try and lose weight, hiding the magazines from anyone else. It was due to the magazines that she had to cut out her favorite food of sweets. And now, entering her seventh year... Seon has lost a good amount of weight over the last break and is still following a ridiculous nijū diet. 

Some would say she looks great but there is still that concern and the words of the people who teased her telling her she still isn't small enough... But she doesn't let it show and keeps up her positive exterior, acting like a mother sometimes to the younger years of her house and even other houses to make sure they are alright and to help them with anything they need. She just wants to make sure everyone else is okay and happy even if she isn't fully happy on the inside. But she will never let anyone know that, she doesn't want people to worry over her as Seon cares too much and just wants everyone living happy and healthy lives at Mahoutokoro.

Asahi-san is rather untidily dressed, but through work ethic rather than sloppiness. He really does brush his hair and settle his robe neatly, but by halfway through the day he looks ruffled again after chasing down rumours all over school. He's otherwise handsome, and the only time he doesn't have a smile on his face is when he's dealing with ignorant kohais who thought the newspaper club was an easy extracurricular. 
Usually, at some point during the day, he starts wearing his robe over his shoulders or putting it on chairs.

Background:
Born in the quiet Hyogō town of Himeji, Asahi-san spent much of his childhood on the streets just outside Himeji proper, though he loved the busyness of town and especially loved visiting the Castle and wandering the parks and grounds nearby. Unlike most children, he never really grew out of his "why" phase, instead adding "how", "where", "what", "when" and "who" to his lexicon almost before he was allowed outside by himself. His parents, a nijū father and a witch mother,
fed his curiosity with lessons and stories, both those of Japan and the ones beyond.

His first encounter of a magical nature was encountering the fabled ghost of Himeji Castle; Okiku of the well. He saw the servant woman's ghost wandering the grounds near her well,
but soon learned that she wasn't the feared creature from the stories after being laid to rest. Her story inspired him to be, at first, a policeman, but later on he changed his mind to becoming a journalist.

One of the most passionate members of the newspaper Club! Henshūsha-san, as he's known, isn't actually the official editor of the Mahoutokoro Report, but he is well-known for helping others with their stories and writing. He's top choice to take over when the current seventh-year graduates. For now,
he's concentrating on being Quidditch and Clubs correspondent, tipping off other club members if he finds a story.

Wand:
30cm (11½ inches) long, hinoki cypress wood, aosagibi-feather core. Inherited a kagi from his mother's side of the family, which he uses to hook the wand onto his belt, making his wand resemble a jitte somewhat.

Pet:
Asahi-san refers to the new Newspaper Club kohais as his 'pets' (misunderstanding "pet project"), but personally doesn't have any animals.

Miscellaneous:
Private tutoring has given Asahi-san a great grip on English, and he sometimes imitates J Jonah Jameson when in the newsroom. A particularly well-done impersonation when he was younger earned him the nickname of Henshūsha-san from his senpais in the Newspaper Club.

Sometimes he knocks kohais on the head with his wand, using it like the jitte it resembles. The faint white glow usually disappears from their hair by evening.

Is rather talented with the use of accio and its counterpart, depulso, to the point where his dorm mates and fellow club members duck reflexively if he pulls out his wand.

Background:

Momo was born fifteen years ago on an especially snowy Christmas eve's morning in Osaka, the second largest metropolitan area in the whole of Japan to Suzuki Kenosuke and Kasumi. It had still been several hours too early before the sun would rise to begin taking its throne in the sky. It was said that on this very day that she was born, the snow in the city reached a new record, rising at least five feet above its usual height. Despite the snowy and frigid climate, Momo was nothing like the weather she was born in. The girl never lacked positivity, and always seemed to have an abundance of energy and cheerfulness that was as uplifting as a bright smile on a sad day. She was fortunate enough to be born into an extremely wealthy family, and there was little that she wanted that she did not get. She always got the best of things. She may have been spoiled by her parents but she was never spared from the rod. They did not hesitate to punish her when she was in the wrong. She was their little bundle of sunshine, and their pride of joy along with her brother no matter what.

Coming from a highly resourceful halfblood family, the Suzuki family has always kept their feet in both worlds, the Magical and the Nijū world. Being able to successfully manage the ties and affairs in both these worlds simultaneously was one of the key reasons why the family was so successful in their businesses. When it came for time for Momo to enter Mahoutokoro, the young girl was ever so excited for all the new adventures that awaited her in the school. Her parents have always been supportive of her interests, and apart from her love of music and playing musical instruments (she plays the clarinet), Momo is also a big fan of Quidditch. 

She fell in love with the wizarding sport when her parents took her the previous Quidditch World Cup, and she has been besotted ever since. She has an old brother, Hiro who is an exceptional Quidditch player who plays for the Japanese National Team and is also a seeker with the Toyohashi Tengu, Japan's reigning champions. He has always been a great inspiration and role model for her growing up. Their cousin also previously played for the national team. Momo hopes to continue the family tradition and strives to work hard towards a coveted spot in the national team. The Suzukis had always took great pride in their Quidditch.

Stubbornness has always been a big part of her life, and the young girl had been chided many a time by her elders for being so unnecessary strong willed. When she was young, she had always proven to be an especially talkative and bubbly child who was very much someone who loved talking. Being brave and adventurous has been something Momo has never lacked from a young age. Being afraid of hardly anything, and highly inquisitive, she would be keen and curious enough to try everything and give it at least a go. 

Always chipper and energetic, there’s hardly any downtime with her, and she’ll always be going off doing something, or on route to doing some crazy activity. It isn’t wrong to say that she leads a hyperactive lifestyle and loves getting her hands dirty and involved. She enjoys other people taking an interest in her activities and sometimes don’t even mind them getting into her space. Of course, that’s on the condition that they don’t intrude on her principles and freedom and she hopes they return in kind. 

She enjoys lending a hand and sharing their experience, especially with the people they care about. She may act all tough, but she’s actually a real softie. She’s not one quick to anger. It’ll take quite a bit to anger her, but once she does, you’re in for it. A highly emotional individual, she is also known to be incredibly passionate about what she believes in.

The panda is a resourceful animal, and those with it as a patronus are the same. They are good at using whatever is around them, and incredibly creative and bright. They are friendly and warm, and many may go to them for advice or help, which the panda will willingly give. They are a bit of a healer by nature, enjoying company around them and using it to enhance themselves. They love to explore many areas of knowledge and the world, trying to broaden their horizons and keep their minds open. They can be very spiritual people, but will not push their views on others, as they are comfortable with whatever a person chooses to believe.

- Her boggart is an Anaconda. 

She's terrified of snakes, and the Anaconda is a huge ass snake. When the Riddikulus charm is used, the snake transform a pink coloured version wrapped together in an equally furry pink feather boa.

The girl loves all forms of sweet treats. It is safe to say that she has a sweet tooth. Feeding her sweet treats is one of the fastest and easiest ways to appease her when she is angry.

@SleepingSilence I'd no idea you were a potterhead!

@Fabricant451 I love what you've done with the place.  I'm not clear on what's Potter more lore I just haven't seen and what's written in, so well done!  Kinda tempted to drag Katsumi back to Japan for this (she's hafu and her dad was adamant about her going to Hogwarts, but she did attend day school at Mahoutokoro.  I could make it work.)

For now, I'm just gonna lurk.  I'm guessing this is pretty SoL, and that's not usually my scene.  Also having some IRL troubles that make me a bit more reluctant to take on a fresh rp just now.  But I had to comment to say I was impressed!

He dresses for comfort. Brands don't matter. As long as the pieces are deemed comfortable by him, he will wear it. Other habits include keeping his hair semi long, in the sense that it is not shoulder length and nor is it short either. Usually kept tied up in a small ponytail/topknot. Wears glasses, not the lens-less kind. He needs them, but not as much as one might assume. Overall, just your typical teenager.

Background:
Contrary to what the thing says, I don't want your full life story. Because it's still being written, that's the point of school and socializing isn't it? What I would like to see is at least a bit about who they are as a person and why. Call it personality. Call it family. Call it whatever. Here is where you sell me on your character without giving them away for free. I don't care how long it is only that you provide a general idea of how your character is and how you want them to be seen by others.

XiaoBao was born approximately 16 years ago in Taiwan. His parents, both descendants of pure-blood magical families, met at a secret social gathering for the magically attuned. The heads of their house knew of each other and what they stood for, and immediately gave their blessing on the budding relationship.

On his mother's side, the family had a very successful business. When his mother and father married, it was discovered that, though he seemed every bit a 'Jack-Of-All-Trades' type, his father actually was very entrepreneurial and had a knack for running a good business. Under the leadership of his mother and father, the family business thrived, paving the way of the lifestyle XiaoBao and his family grew accustomed to.

Two years after he was born, XiaoBao's parents had a daughter. Currently 14, she has not displayed any sort of magical abilities, leading his parents to wonder if she has no magical abilities...

Growing up, XiaoBao was never wanting. He simply had to ask, and he received. However, that is not to say his parents gave him everything he wanted without first validating the need or merit in XiaoBao receiving what he is asking for. For example, for some reason when he was eight, XiaoBao wanted a vintage broom to play with. These are valued in similar fashion to collector's cars. XiaoBao asked for a Nimbus 2001, one of the more expensive brooms in the market, if one can even find one. His parents agreed, on the condition of him doing whatever chore they asked of him, without recourse, for six months. When six months came and gone, and Xiaobao fulfilled his part of the bargain, a Nimbus 2001 showed up in his room one afternoon and it was his to keep and care for. Until this day, XiaoBao still has the broom, although he does not ride it anymore. It was in the same event that his parents discovered his affinity of riding a broomstick, particularly how balanced he was even when going at speed. He was watching all the Quidditch matches on TV, hovering on his Nimbus 2001 while doing so. Naturally, he wanted to be a seeker and have all the glory. However, when his parents found a private coach to assess where his abilities truly are, they found that he was more suited for being a Chaser as his top-end speed was not quite what was needed.

Being exposed to magic even before he was born, XiaoBao became naturally good at any lesson his parents taught him. The most basics of them all, he can handle. The rest, his parents decided, he was going to learn them from a proper professor, in a proper school.

@shylarah Heh. I'm not super into it. (I've read most of the books and seen most of the movies. So I have more of an average consumer awareness.) But I've done magic school roleplays and slice of life, was interested in the setting change. (I usually prefer a little more drama myself.) But figured it would allow me to do some more creative writing. :P

@Apoalo I've just got two comments, one of which is probably my own self being confused but both are related to Eko. The first is more a statement that his being part of the Quidditch club as a first year essentially makes him like a cheerleader of sorts since, assuming he intends to try for the team, he wouldn't be able to play for the school until second year. The second is more a question and maybe it's different in that corner of the world, but fluent in five languages at age 11? I'm not saying it's impossible or anything but kid's been busy. Just tossing that in there. Anyway, ACCEPTED

@Kitty I don't have a problem with people wishing to be Gold Robe students so it is certainly allowed. However, Seon is walking a very fine line here that I'm sure is unintentional. My major concern here is the workload she has, it feels sort of like she does a little bit of everything from the Quidditch to the foundation of a club to tutoring and that's in addition to making the grade enough to be one of the top eight students. That is a tall order for even the most studious of students and there aren't any time tuners in this neck of the woods. While she's no longer the leader of the Baking Club, that still has a rather full workload, Quidditch practice is demanding and a seventh year has end of school exams and careers looming. I'm not opposed to the character, but maybe just a bit dialed back say on the tutoring bits? If only because she kind of does it all and I'm worried for the poor girl's health.
