Bio

Greetings,

I am Jb; Briton by birth, roleplayer by my own hand, and lover of literature. I am also an amateur historian, a receiver of a Bachelors degree in Ancient and Medieval History - quite a useless degree, actually - and would like to think that I'm a fair, honest and open guy.

As far as RP'ing goes, I'm pretty open to most things really, all you need to do is ask! :)

So, if you've ever any questions for me, wish to speak about RP's involving myself or run by myself, or simply feel like a chat, don't be afraid to get in touch.

Character Sheet

I've decided to try something a little different with this RP, and it is thus;

Could you please write about your character in prose form, it can be as long as you like, but must include the important details – those being things such as their name, possibly their age, what they look like (clothes, weapons, etc), belief systems, where they come from, and anything else you feel might be important.

You can simply write about them, include everything in a short story about them, however you see fit really - just please make sure to keep it as detailed as possible; these sheets will likely be altered with story progression, so keep this in mind when writing them.

Please PM them to me when you are done, and I look very much forward to reading them.

P.S.

If you want somewhere definite to end your sheet/story/profile, then when they became found out about the offer of work - and all that it entails to them and those around them - would be a good place.

Other than that you can also carry on right up to the 'present', it's up to you.

Please Read

Something I forgot to mention, but might seem obvious - this is an 'Advanced' RP.

That means that I won't be accepting images of characters, and that I would like detail people!

I don't mind if you take a while to write the profile, or if it's quality over quantity, as long as it's a coherent profile in which things such as their personality, weapon(s), clothing and the like are covered.

And on the issue of gender, I may possibly accept females, if there's a darned good reason.

One last thing! Please feel free to use, much like James Clavell did in his novel Shogun, to make up/create a clan of your own. As long as they fit in with the time period and so forth, and have a reason for their 'warrior journey' as it were, I don't mind.
Musha shugyō

A Feudal Japanese RP

In the year seventeen eighty-six the tenth shōgun of Japan, Tokugawa Ieharu, died and was replaced by his adopted heir Tokugawa Ienari. This shōgun was to become the longest 'serving' of the Tokugawa regents, and in his fifty years of ruling the people of Japan in the Emperor's stead would eventually become one of the most hated. His was a period of exceeding indulgence, a time when the merchant class began to gain prominence and exceed their samurai betters in terms of wealth and luxury, the han fiefs suffering and corruption becoming rife throughout the land.

This is the Bunka era of his reign (1804 to 1818) and, although peace generally reigns supreme, the plight of the samurai class and their daimyo overlords is a precarious one to say the least; no longer do these members of the warrior-caste hold sway as they once did, even the peasants feeling the dispersal of prodigious wealth radiating from the urbanite elite of places such as Edo, Kyoto and Osaka, undoing all that the austere reforms of Matsudaira Sadanobu had once made possible in a flood of degeneracy and famine.

Nevertheless there was something about this period that endeared the warrior class to test themselves as they had in years past, many schools of martial arts (or bugei ryuha) had been founded in years past for this very purpose – to be there in times of peace and lack of warfare to keep the warrior caste sharp, so to speak.

It had been one-hundred and eighty-nine years approximately since the last opposition to the Tokugawa shogunate had been stamped out at Osaka, but the samurai had never stopped testing themselves, even as the merchants – who had once been at the bottom of the social pyramid – began their ascent toward the upper strata.

The idea of musha shugyō was not only to allow a samurai to travel from one fief to another in this time of clan exclusivity, without the need to adopt the lifestyle of a wandering ronin, but also to find employment and – if there was time or opportunity available – to test oneself in the curriculum of another school of fighting; many samurai became mercenaries, highwayman and bandits, as well as bodyguards, while some even became feared swordsmen in their own right.

Our own tale begins in the north-eastern fief of one Iruhada Derogi, the daimyo of a small han and head of the Derogi clan. It had occurred, perhaps by no fault of his own, or just perhaps through his overuse of his fiefs stipend for his own gain as opposed to those of his people, that the various heads of a number of villages were disgruntled to the point of outright revolt; already they had sent delegations to Iruhada and been turned away, now they were preparing something a little more permanent to end his reign of depredation and oppression upon them.

This is where you come in. Yes, you. It is time to make a choice!

With what wealth they have gathered, the village heads have sent out word that they are willing to offer payment to ronin who are willing to fight for them against what they see as a pure injustice. Iruhada on the other hand has issued the exact same statement, wanting these out-of-control peasants put in their place for good; it is known however that the Derogi clan is short on both coin and rice, Iruhada being a man of extravagant tastes, and his clan containing no more than a few dozen fighting men – not enough to contain a full revolt in his domain, not without help anyway.

The question is, will you side with the peasantry for reasons of your own, or will you side with the daimyo of the fief against this obviously upstart rabble?

So there you have it, once things are dealt with in this initial scenario then we'll see where we go from there.

I won't bother outlining rules and such, as to anyone who role-plays in the Advanced section (or not for that matter) they should be pretty obvious. If you have any questions at all, I am always willing to answer them so ask away.

I'll be putting the character sheet and so on up in the character tab, so head on over there if you're feeling this RP.

That being said, I'll be choosing people on the quality and not the quantity of their writing, and no on a first-come basis.

That's about all I've got to say for now, so welcome to the RP and let's have fun.

Wanna hear a joke? xD

@BingTheWing Thanks for asking, it makes me happy to know that at least one person is watching. Anyway, although I won't explain everything that's been going on, I will have a completed OOC thread up tomorrow - I swear by my non-Asiatic ancestors and on my honour.
@Kratesis Milday...I'm assuming you are a lady, apologies if you're not.

@Themerlinhawk Awesome, shield and spear ey? Interesting.

@BCTheEntity No worries, I know you're a busy bee.

The Daemon has many forms. You must know
them all. You must tell the Daemon from his
disguise and root him out from the hidden
places. Trust no one. Trust not even yourself. It
is better to die in vain than to live in
abomination. The zealous martyr is praised for
his valour, the craven and the unready are
justly abhorred.

This is but an initial interest check, but one I've been quite interested in putting forward for quite some time, and that is a simple RP of an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and his (or her) trusty retinue taking on the big bads of the galaxy - the insidious Neverborn of the Ruinous Powers and all their servants.

I'm looking for a small ('retinue sized') group of players/writers to help make this a reality, a dedicated group of folks who are able to work both on their own initiative but also able to follow a plot-line when necessary. I'd expect a decent writing ability to go along with it, but I'm not a pedant or so strict that I won't allow a little give if everything wraps of to a fine character and player behind them.

Speaking of which...

Think of this like the Eisenhorn novels, or a TT game of Dark Heresy without the rules, in short I'm looking for detailed characters and good development to go along with them. If you're thinking of a one-sided/dimensional character, an overpowered one, or generally one that won't fit, then just don't.

This should serve as a good basis for anyone thinking of joining, as well as a fine resource.

And with that, if you're interested then please do tell! Any questions are also welcome.

@Irredeemable@DrunkasaurusRex@Laduguer

Cool beans, I must admit that I only put up this year old concept (since the first attempt) out of a 40k-induced madness; I don't suppose anyone would be interested in forming the retinue of an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor?

I'm not going to up and change everything, but I am weighing up this RP - one I think it certainly more open ended - and the other, that would be more like the Eisenhorn books, far more character focused and probably more detailed, gritty and grimdank. Just curious.
Nergüi sat with his back to the Orkoid vehicle, having just watched the oddly tall psyker demolish the Nob in a matter of moments, his eyes now looking around at the ruined landscape before him. What a sight it was, the usually well-oiled Imperial machine bought low by hordes of savage Greenskins, a scenario he had unfortunately seen more than once in his extended lifetime among the stars but one that kept repeating itself.

It was only when the shrill whistling of incoming shells caught his attention that the Apothecary noticed the area was even being bombarded, picking himself up with typical Astartes stoicism and unhurriedly making his way back to the bunker, entering it just as the first HE shell detonated and showered the back part of his armour in all manner of gore, debris and dirt; unlike a couple of the others, he simply turned about and watched in silence as everything from corpses to rockrete were turned into fractured clusters of shrapnel.

"Everyone still in one piece and able to stand? Good, let's move to the next objective, but this time I think we should use those Servo-Skulls of yours, Adrianne."

Never having moved to anything other than his half-squat, necessary due to where they were all packed in once more, Nergüi moved out of the bunker with his expressionless visor scanning the horizon for any further enemy contacts; if the initial battle hadn't told them that an enemy was here, the shelling certainly would!

There were further exchanges of conversation, most of it in the back of the Marines mind - he had no head for mechanics, unless it came to his bike - and most of it filtered out. Something about the masked psyker irked him, in the same way a mosquito might annoy a bullock, and he had no desire to listen to her any more than he had to.

"Long as it is defensible. It is unlikely the Orks will not notice their missing... vehicles."

Now this did make him chuckle, a deep and smooth laugh that even emerged from his vox-grill. He well knew that the Krieger hadn't been making any sort of joke, having fought alongside them in the past he wondered if they even could form any sense of humour, but it tickled him nonetheless.

"These are not vehicles," stated the White Scar bluntly, "and believe me that they will notice." He pointed a finger to Adrienne, "she could tell you that the Greenskins function with a form of gestalt psychic field, active at all times whether they know it or not, and although the scum pay little heed to casualties as you or I would see them, they will realise that some of their number have been slain whether they realise that they realise or not."

With something akin to a friendly slap on the back for Ansgar, enough to make any normal man stagger slightly, the Marine shrugged his shoulders out and took a deep inhalation of air through his helmets filters. Wherever they were going, he prayed to the Emperor that there would be more of them.
@Rithy Good thing you're not then, isn't it?

Since you're all so damn insistent (all two of you, one being the GM) I'll make a post.
@Drunken Conquistador@Laduguer@Amaranth@DeadDrop@Hank@Cash78

Right, I genuinely have nothing to add to this yet, therefore I would like to request another round of posts from everyone - just to round up the killing and the pew-pew-pew - before I move on to bigger and better things; I apologise greatly for the delay (all 20 days of it), but life is Hell.
