I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

@Dias Blade You are free to think what you like of Inkarnate. I commented because I don't particularly care for people exploiting the straw man fallacy, as it does nothing for discussion. I should also note that just because I'm willing to point this out I am not agreeing with his assessment of what you said, it does not necessarily mean I share his views.

But I do think most of your ideas won't work because it's just "let's rework and add systems nobody cares about!" or in the case of idea 4 "let's make something that isn't anything like arena to trick people into RPing here!" I think all that really has to happen is that people have to start showing less toxicity to "outsiders" and actually try to make the newby tourney work. The last one was poorly organised, but was a good first step for Arena. A shame nobody followed it up with anything.
What would make arena more appealing to me would be doing many of the things @Mobius mentioned. Like making a rule book, getting some active mods, and doing something with the ranking system and toxic members. Arena is always going to be a niche group, but I'd be more inclined to try it if it was a bit more regulated. Also, I see people earn victory far more often on their ability to bulldog other members than actually lay down a convincing argument for why "thing X didn't work."

<Snipped quote by Inkarnate>

20 years in Arena format and yet between your current account and that Gowi account, you collectively only have 1 fight in your own community's Arena? (A fight that apparently never even finished...) And you've been here collectively 5 years? I didn't know being a spectator counted. =P

He said he "participated in the arena" format. Clearly it wasn't here.

@Shifter_Master

With Veronica's agents having dispersed, she was alone again. While Veronica had intended to get all of her agents together, she wasn't really ready to entrust all of them to her secret. Sam and Eli already knew, so there was nothing wrong with them knowing about each other.

But this did not conclude her business with all of her agents.

Veronica lifted a hand up to her ear and dialed into penny's frequency. After the events at Justine's castle, Veronica did manage to pass the robot a device which they could communicate with. On Penny's largely metal, magical body, such a device would likely go undetected by Beacon. There were always risks using such devices. But using a communication device was only a big no-no if they knew it was mint on the other side. To this end, Veronica had her ways of getting around such things. As an example, her 'com' actually went through a series of relays and distorts. Even if someone was to follow the signal, they wouldn't know where it was coming from or who was actually speaking on the other side. Not without a considerable amount of detective work. Not that she really cared if Beacon knew she was talking to Penny. But penny probably did.

“Penny, it's me.” There was no reason for Veronica to announce herself, as she should be the only one taking advantage of the device Veronica implanted in her. And it was likely too quiet for most to hear. “I have some information in regards to... Thalia Alvoy. You will meet me in Penrose's central park. I hear they are almost done rebuilding everything.” Veronica started to move towards her destination.

The talk Su had with Boteg was short. In truth, she didn't really understand most of it. Boteg's strange way of speaking made it difficult to convey certain ideas. Everything had a nickname, and it didn't help that he couldn't remember it's original name. Su was “sky scare,” and he use to call Amber “sea scare” as examples. The only thing that she understood was the mention of “sky bastion,” which was Amber's old ship that he had named himself.

Su decided to see if she could track down Helga. It would probably be a good idea to relay what she understood from Boteg to someone else. If just to help confirm that she was right about what he said.

And with a flash, the monitors came back on.

”Oh? Is that standoff still happening?” Monokuma was dressed up like a doctor. Or at least, he was wearing the head piece. The bear was seldom seen dawning an outfit of any kind. ”Since some of you have decided to start thinking of ways to thwart my attempts to draw you out during the night of carnage, I've decided to pitch my own reason for everyone to venture outside. Mommy Jezz won't be happy, but oh well.” The bear folded his arms behind his back. ”I'm not going to kidnap anyone. However, if a squad of you is able to eliminate Geina's carnage class chassis...” Monokuma hurled his hands into the sky.”I'll let one of you go free! Maybe more if I'm feeling generous.”

”Really now?” The screen split in half, with monokuma on one side, and Willow on the other. ”If you instead slay that troublesome harpy my father has unleashed into the game, I will reward you with freedom.” She folded her arms. ”I am of course, referring to Kyra. She is not welcome here with us!”

”I would not advise that.” Monokuma placed his paws together. ”She's an empress, and as such, is far more than you can handle. She could probably eliminate Geina herself, but that takes the fun out of it for you guys.”

”We should let the peasants decide for themselves.” Willo pointed at the screen. ”Each of your rooms will have a red badge and a blue badge. If you plan on fighting Kyra, take the red badge, but if you're going to fight my sister, take the blue one. But do know that my sisters and I will destroy you on sight if you should do as much as walk in her direction!”

”It's not worth it kids.” Monokuma stuck out his claws. ”Kyra and I are unbeatable. Just slay Geina and get your freedom.”

”Well, there are more of us, so you should cease your tongue, knave! ”

”But Kyra and I have no weaknesses, like the self destruct button in Geina's cockpit.”

Willow jerked her head back ”Gah! How dare you! It is so uncouth for you to-”

Then the video went dead.

Jezebel listened carefully to every word that came rolling out of the Poet's mouth. She said nothing the entire time, even stepped off to the side while he gave his little speech. Once he sat down. Jezebel placed her hands together. “Like, seriously? You're just going to let him blow himself and faith up? ” Jezebel shrugged and placed her hands on her hips. “So like, totally hypothetical question but, like.” She dragged her body towards the poet. “Would you be inclined to change your mind if like, you knew I'd pry that from your grody little fingers?” While Jezebel was not a tall woman, she had to look down at the poet when he returned to his seat.
Uh, I think this is going to be the tenth time I've responded to a topic like this, but I love giving my opinion too much to pass up the opportunity to do it again.

Free gets a bad rap because there are no post expectations and one liners are allowed. And well,It's quite deserving of that reputation. But more often than not, you'll find roleplays where the players make some effort to create something legible. But things in here tend to feel sort of "empty" compared to their higher-tiered counterparts. That is to say depth is usually kind of shallow. Don't expect the evil organisation to have a reason for being evil, or for there to be any more to a character than what you get at face value. I don't post in here because I like depth and stuff, but it seems like a good place for people who aren't too picky about such things.

"Casual" is really just a hub where Free and Advanced players meet, as everyone here would be just as happy to post in one of the other sections. as a result, the writing level is all over the place. I mostly RP here because there are a lot of people. There's really not much more to say. Casual doesn't really have an identity.

Advanced is what it sounds like, sort of. I've heard that people in this section are pretentious "holier than thou" braggarts, but I really don't see that type of behavior when I look in threads. There is far more complaining about writing levels in casual than there is advanced. A lot of the people here also post in casual, though they tend to be more literate. I really must put emphasis that I have yet to see the snobby behavior everyone claims to see in the advanced section. I haven't posted here much because, again, there are more people in casual and that's just where I tend to go.

The Arena fascinates me, and I find myself dropping by just to see what's up. The idea of turning RP into a game where you try to outwit and outmaneuver the other person's character with words sounds entertaining. Unfortunately it seems like fights tend to be more decided by who's more stubborn or who has more friends. Glorified popularity contests. It's no wonder few fights ever finish.

The other sections don't interest me all that much.

Tonya didn't have much of an opinion on what was going on around her. Noir had consumed a few of her illusionary civilians, fought a swordwoman, and was under the very false impression that she had killed her. She was too digusted with Chloe to really care about what happened to Noir at this point. She could live or die, it didn't factor into her objective at all.

But it did look like things were going to wrap up shortly. More magical girls were arriving, if a bit late. But not everyone could be punctual. Or maybe they could if they stuck to morning workouts.

Mika misinterpreted the girl's slight as a genuine comment. "Oh yea, I'm here for my boss's breakfast. I'm just sort of a gopher. But you're right, I don't look that much older than you." But she left without saying a word back. Something else must have been distracting her. Mika hoped that she didn't upset her or anything. She just wanted to make friends. But Mika soon noticed the food left on her plate. "Is this... for me?" Mika circled around to the other side of the table and looked at what was left. There was a waffle with a bite missing from it, some melting cream topped with a strawberry, half a slice of bacon, and two eggs sunny side up. Mika's keen nose was able to smell the melting butter, and there seemed to be some cinnamon in there as well. She picked up the utensils the girl was using and proceeded to finish her food. How sweet of her to leave all of this for Mika. She wasn't going to let everyone's screaming deter her from eating, she would enjoy ever bite.

Mika was happy to have this feast, but she was disappointed she didn't have a chance to exchange names. Anyone who was willing to give their breakfast away was someone Mika would happily become friends with. Of course Mika wasn't oblivious to the deeper implications this could have. Sharing food in the animal kingdom was typically part of a courting ritual. It was a realization that hit Mika so hard, she physically froze. She wasn't sure if she had unknowingly consented to something or not. Regardless, she would have to find this girl again and get her name to find out.

After she finished everything on her plate, of course.
Mirt is accepted. you may post him in the character tab.

For Anyon, I've seen better formatted sheets, but this is a lot better than what was submitted last time. however, a few points...

-For a battle caster who can kill a man with two punches, I think her magical powers are really strong at B/B. I also feel that what you wanted to make is not accurately reflected in B/B, as you mention her buffs being short in duration and not lasting the entire battle. I would feel more comfortable if you made her a bit less potent with her magic or in melee. C is a pretty average rank for spellswords, and I would choose an arrangement that reflected that unless you want her to be more support orientated.

-Healing and buff magic actually requires two different magical affinities. Buffs come from yang, and healing magic is water. So it's not really possible for her to do both. However, her DB lets her cast buffs, so it might be worthwhile to make her affinity water, which isn't as common as yang for some reason.

Other than that, looks like she'll be a good character.

Gunna make sure everyone sees the anouncement this time.

So some things have been said on the discord, and I'd just like to put my thoughts on them here where they won't be immediately buried.

While I realize some of you really want to know who the sentinel is, there's no real benefit in trying to figure it out at this time. Or really any time for that matter. The sentinel switch is really just there to ensure there won't be a reset as soon as the first non-native dies. Ideally, any deaths that happen will be pretty close to the sentinel's death time wise, as it's sort of not fun to have to wait weeks for the sentinel to drop dead before you can post again. By the same token, if there was a reset as soon as yuuki died, no one would have realized what their obstacle was until the second reset. so sometimes it is a necessary evil. Regardless, there's no reason for your characters to assume there is a sentinel, that you will return by death a second time, or that there is a trigger for it beyond people dying. While you are free to have your characters act and do however you wish, I will not be forcing a reset every time you intentionally put your character in a hard spot. Especially if it's just so that you can gain some meta knowledge.

Also, I will be giving most of my important announcements via OOC on the forum. This is because I hate doing battle with Discord's word limit. If you want to make sure you don't miss anything, I would subscribe to this topic. I don't genuinely like to ping everyone because I know some people get triggered by that.

I'm also going to recap my last anouncement since some of you missed it.

Non-Natives: Your characters remember everything that has transpired, and you may post with your characters having retained this knowlage.

Natives in non-native scenes: Your characters have no idea what the hell happened before the reset, and cannot act upon it's knowledge.

Natives not in Non-native scenes: If you wish, you may continue posting as if there was no reset, so long as it doesn't interfere or take into account what happened during a non-native scene. As an example, nothing Aer did really relates to the non-natives in any way, so we can pretend all of that already happened since the timing with the resets doesn't really matter.

And with that out of the way, let's see if you can survive a little longer this time, non-natives!

That came a day or so later than I wanted, but it's uuuuuuup!

I'll see about getting a zeroth post up sometime.

Christ that took forever

Edit: I know how to use image but for the life of me the links weren't working with it. Also she is not a white clothed Holy woman despite clothes and title. She isn't that powerful. Nor can she predict the future

I will look at your sheet later, but will try to get it reviewed ASAP.

Starting location, Priestella

The sword flew true, and struck flame in the chest. It was a mighty heave that pinned him to the wall. The blow to Alestair's chest was strong enough to break all of his ribs, and ruptured every organ in his chest. Only father wiskey remained, and his chances weren't looking too good.

DEATH COUNT : 3

Center Ally , Suttling's Basin, Priestella

While the group was initially in for a scare, they were able to talk Irene and Vasilis down rather easily. Things were strange, but they could at least take comfort in that they were going to be well protected by the people who had approached them. Vasilis didn't even wait to start moving again before filling the silence with his voice.

”I mean, I'm kind of surprised that something so basic has you so excited.” he explained to Chieko. ”Well, I guess it's not basic for everyone. But I mean, I'm capable of doing stuff that's a lot cooler than that.” He looked over his shoulder to see Irene glaring at him. ”Uh, maybe I'm not the best teacher. What's your affinity anyway?”

But someone was there to take advantage of the situation, and the group hadn't even taken five steps down the road. The shutters on the second floor windows flew open on either side of the street. Cloaked bandits leaned out of the windows with crossbows, ready to take aim. They all fired in unison, and none of them missed their mark. The two Bolts aimed at Vasilis struck his padded armor, directly over his heart. They knocked him backwards, but they didn't go deep enough to wound him. However, Irene was not so lucky. One of the bolts shattered her ankle, while the other pierced her forearm. Try as she might, there was nothing the young girl could do to remain standing.

”Irene!” Vasilis let out a bestial roar before lunging at one of the windows. Like before, he was propelled by explosions, and was essentially a rocket with an axe attached to it. The bandit would not be able to move out of the way before being split in two, neither would the other one on the other side of the street. Vasilis was pissed. His cool exterior melted away to reveal a ravenous berserker.

Unfortunately, the archers were just the beginning.

On the lower most floor, more bandits appeared. There were about twenty of them, spilling out on both sides of the street. Most of them wore little more than rags, some nothing at all, But all of them had something to use as a weapon. By the time the group realized what was going on, it was too late to run. Chieko wasn't able to react with everything going on, and didn't see the club coming for the back of her head. The swing was strong enough to cave in the back of her skull, which dropped her instantly. They didn't wait for her death spasms to stop before trying to pull her shoes off. Aerith was knocked to the ground and repeatedly stabbed by at least four demi-humans. She gripped onto one of their arms, but was unable to pull herself up. She opened her mouth to scream, but there was too much blood in her lungs to properly make sounds. While Nobuhiro possessed incredible reflexes and strength, he was not ready for a sudden attack from both sides. He was able to bob and weave through the first few attacks, but a knife found it's way into his ribs. His reflexes slowed, and all ensuing attacks found their mark on his torso. The boxer struggled to stand, and found himself resting on one knee. But a barbed cudgel found it's mark in the side of his pretty face, robbing him of his consciousness and dignity. This was his first match against multiple opponents, and he lost.

Irene and Vasilis's fate was unknown, but these three other worlders had faded from this world.

DEATH COUNT : 6

Center road, The Golden Quarter, Priestella

Mono stared at the three other worlders who remained. Ashton tried to reason his way out, Hilda tried to invoke fear, and Aaron decided to just tell the truth. But mono said nothing, and instead turned to the two natives that opened their mouths.

They had put themselves in quite the position, those two. Demi-humans weren't anyone's favorite right now, and they were judging someone who worked under the king. It was one thing to silently judge someone, but to have the gall to speak up about it when someone could end you...

”Really now? You would let these cultists run free? You would risk letting them kill innocents by the thousands just to avoid an unsightly execution?” Mono took a step towards Eiko, and the difference in their height became apparent. ”If you only knew what was required to stand in my position. Low brow rabble such as yourself can keep praying at the temples and hope for a good outcome. As for myself...” Mono extended his hand and took hold of Elque's neck before she could react. Then he turned around and dropped on one knee, throwing her to the ground in front of him. Even though he wore a visor, everyone could tell his eyes were boring into her. ”I am a fucking sin eater! And I will gladly stand beside all the cultists I've slain when their time of judgment comes. Because there isn't a fucking thing that will make me compromise the safety of this great nation.” He looked up to his fellow soldiers. ”Run them through!”

There was no mercy for those left standing. Without any hesitation, they drew their swords and closed in on the remaining other worlders. No words or actions could stop them. They followed their commander's order without fail. It just took a single stab from each of them, and they all hit their mark. Ashton was stabbed through the heart and chest, and sunk to the floor immediately. Aaron's throat was slashed, and in a twist of irony, the boy who failed to commit suicide also failed to survive the encounter. The gods did nothing for their “servant” either. As if to punish her for leaning on them too much, five of the soldiers simultaneously ran their swords into her torso.

It was over in a flash. Where four people once stood there were now four corpses. The guard raised a hand to his mouth, unsure if this was what he really wanted.

DEATH COUNT : 9

For many, this would have been the end of an adventure. But for them, this was just the beginning.

Restart : 1

The non-natives found themselves exactly where they were right after encountering Lord Talus. They seemed to be in good condition, any wounds they had suffered had been healed. It would be easy enough to write off as a dream, but then why were they still here?

But everyone seemed like they would have a chance to try again. They knew a danger was coming, be it Mono, a disgruntled knight, or a bandit ambush. And they didn't have a lot of time to figure out how they were going to deal with them.
