Hey, glad to see someone enjoys it enough to read it even if they're not participating! I'm proud the narrative is engaging enough to draw that kind of attention.

If you'd like to adapt it to something else, I guess feel free as far as the general "idea" goes of Players, playing Monsters, and struggling to survive. You could PM me with questions but I probably won't give away ALL my secrets. ;)

Your efforts have culminated in a new Skill!
Skill Gain: Telepathy I!
Channeling Mana through thoughts creates Psychic-type abilities. At Rank I, this skill can only be used when you are in physical contact with another creature. This skill can only send simple thoughts or emotions. This skill is currently only one-way transmission. This skill is an Active Non-Offensive Spell and consumes MP.
System:Jason

Your efforts have increased your ability with a Skill!
Skill Rank Up! Limited Shapeshift I > Limited Shapeshift II!
Stamina drain decreased. You can now project your body at longer ranges (up to five feet). You can now increase the “mass” of a shape, though your total mass and weight cannot change--as an example, you could form a dense blob at the end of your pseudopod to strike an enemy with. You can now create slightly more complex geometric shapes.

Just as it seemed Jason really wasn’t getting anywhere, even after attempting to use all of his MP and force the skill through, something felt like it just…clicked. Jason formed a thought, visualized the travel of that thought through himself and into Ed, and he placed Mana within that visualization. Thought became reality, and magic became mentality.

“Test!” said Jason’s voice, inside Ed’s head.

Ed’s own experiment seemed to be having some results, but as of yet he didn’t feel anything completely different...there did seem to be, however, a warm tingle flowing through his body, almost like feeling his pulse...But this certainly wasn’t the beating of his heart or the pumping of his blood, he somehow knew instinctively.

Asura, too, seemed to have finally achieved some headway in his manipulation of his shape. He had, of course, been practicing for a while with the way he rolled all around the cave...and his stunt with the whip seemed to have been that final bit of oomph he required.

Mother Rat seemed to sense that something was going on with Ed, and moved closer to Asteria, looking between her offspring and their fellow Dire Rat. She sniffed the air tentatively once more, then looked pointedly at Jason, following the connections of his pseudopods back to Ed. She let out a whuffling sigh.

As Orchid and Ardur fled the battle, once they were out of range of the other monsters--or at least it seemed they weren’t being pursued anymore--system messages suddenly appeared to them. While they decided what to do with this information however, there were other pressing matters of concern.

“Youngling? Who you whisperin’ to!?” Crispy shouted, looking around this way and that despite being temporarily blinded. He uncovered his eye for a moment--the splinter Ardur had stabbed him with was gone, apparently not being deep enough to lodge itself in his sight organ, but the eye was still covered in blood. He might not be blind forever, but it seemed it would take a while to heal...unless maybe the Herbs could do it.

But now, the goblin and pixie would find themselves less than a hundred yards from the entrance to the cave. All of the fallen rocks and dead bodies of monsters caught up in the landslide had been cleared away. The sunlight was almost blinding, and warm in a way much more comforting than Crispy’s bonfire had been. Three goblins were standing under the archway, apparently in conversation as they were turned away from Orchid at the moment and huddled together. They looked to be standing guard, or at least on lookout…

[[Everyone in the party has leveled up, but I’ve only responded to those who have posted so far in the interests of post length and number of mentions.]]

Though Mourningstar and Oberon were separated from the others somewhat, it seemed like the entire ambush group had survived the encounter. The three goblins were all very much dead, and though Crispy had escaped he was at least wounded. The battle showed that the monsters, while perhaps lacking individually, could be a formidable force together. And now, even individually they would be more powerful, according to the System…

But Crispy had been having trouble feeding his fire this morning because of the cave in. And now, after the battle, the bonfire had begun to die down, leaving a rather large and deep pile of ashes around the firepit...along with something that glowed ever so slightly not with the deep red of fire, but with a calming blue color…

Ash’s Party

@Duthguy@Rune_Alchemist@CollectorOfMyst
As Danny looked at the Pixie after analyzing the dead Goblin, he received another message just before he turned away to retch.

Used Monster Analysis I!
Effectiveness at 100%.
Pixie
A tiny humanoid Fey-type Monster. While somewhat intelligent, they lack empathy towards one another even compared to beasts like Goblins. Capable of flight and healing magic, but not physically strong or skilled enough to fight or use weapons well. This one is unusual.
System:Danny

Meanwhile, Ash took a more forcible stance with the wild lizard. As she slammed its head into the dirt it’s tail thrashed for just a moment. But finally it seemed to understand its predicament, and kept its snout shut. Remaining perfectly still, even after Ash lifted her claw, it seemed to be waiting. It obviously didn’t want to be hit, and so far every time it had been hit had been after interacting with the female lizard. It watched her warily, but didn’t dare provoke her wrath again.

You have temporarily dominated a Fanged Lizard! Fanged Lizard reluctantly joins your party! Dominated creatures will only remain under specific conditions.
System:Ash

Scott called out for Ash not to hurt the beast, and even as he approached it didn’t move, though it’s eyes and tongue flickered in his direction. If it were possible for reptiles to sweat this one likely would have been dripping.
Edward, Asura, Jason, Asteria

Pool Party (D2)
@Searat@Kazemitsu@Guy0fV4lor@SilverPaw

As Asura explained to some degree “how do” to Momma Slime, the blue blob seemed to tremble with confusion. She watched as Jason spoke and her surface membrane quivered slightly as he spoke vocally to Asura, the vibrations of his voice rippling across her. Then she suddenly undulated in alarm as a Dire Rat appeared—followed by two more!

Mother Rat kept her distance as Asteria approached the other group of monsters. That male from before was there, but so were three slimes. The larger Dire Rat stayed low to the ground, ready to spring--either to fight or fly--and sniffed the air with rapid whiffs. Momma Slime pulsed with suspicion, but neither Asura nor Jason seemed to be reacting violently yet.

Jason spoke in what he no doubt believed was a charming voice, but when he got loud Mother Rat opened her mouth to hiss, while maintaining her distance. Mother Slime shifted her mass. But the other monsters never displayed any overt hostility, and merely interacted in their strange ways that neither of the natural creatures understood.

Jason experimented with his magic. Ed and Asteria questioned the terms of the Alliance. Asura mostly observed, until he had a chance to pipe up. But all of their voices, the vibrations they were making that shook the air and produced a sound, were being received. Mother Rat’s ears twitched. She had stopped hissing, and for now had merely crouched down not too far from Asteria. But now, her eyes held a sort of curiosity. Every so often, she would thrust her nose closer to the group, scenting and listening. Her tail swept back and forth pensively behind her.

Momma Slime’s surface membrane continued to ripple. Then, after some time, she shifted her mass back to a more centered “stance” of sorts--she seemed relaxed. Then her surface began to move on its own, without the vibrations of the others’ voices. At first, one part of her simply formed a roll of sorts, flopping over the other part. It made a wet slap. Then she reformed into an orb, and...made an odd sucking sound. Part of her inflated into a bubble. Then the bubble was drawn into her mass--and when it popped, her body vibrated with a sound somewhat like a belch. She undulated from side to side...and then…

“Blrblrblbrlbble.” said Momma Slime.

Mother Rat perked up at the sound, but then she stood up on her hindlegs for just a moment. She turned her snout this way and that, then looked at Asteria and squeaked before settling back down. If the rest of the group looked around as she had, they would see that other creatures were coming to the Pool for water, but right now it seemed that all of the other monsters were giving this group a wide berth. Though they had all experienced their share of “random encounters,” it seemed that even the simple minded monsters of the cave had more sense than to attack a much stronger force than themselves...

Dorm Lobby

"I... Umm..." She hesitated. Kenichi tried to urge her to go on with just his eyes.

It's been four days, after all. She probably has a lot of stuff she could tell me about...but I wonder if she's going to literally answer my questions again? Does she know how to just...talk, in general? Without having a specific answer to give to a specific question?

"Hmmm... I have a roommate now. Her name is Hatori-san." She turned around, motioning to empty space. Kenichi looked, but noted from the expression on her face that she must have been expecting her roommate to be there. Why wasn't she? Kenichi thought back, but he was sure that only Fumika had come down the stairs earlier, and he hadn't heard anyone else's footsteps. Hm. Was this Hatori-san kind of rude, or had Fumika just spaced out as she sometimes did?

"...Oh." She murmured, her bangs wriggling in disappointment. She glanced back at him with a slightly sheepish look. "Umm... Anyway, she's very nice. And really strong. Oh, but when she fights, it's actually a bit scary... But she's nice, so it's alright. We're friends now. I think."

Did they pair ya up with a roommate? Yep, it seemed she was still being very literal with her speech. But, she had added a lot of extra information Kenichi hadn't asked about with computer-pinpoint-accuracy. He smiled at her, and nodded to encourage her again to continue.

"And... I also made friends with a few other people in class, too. Like Reina and Jett. Oh. And I visited Haruka the other day, too. We had pizza and watched a show about superheroes. It was fun."

As she spoke, a faint but nevertheless warm smile had, for the briefest of moments, crossed her face. Kenichi's own grin grew more satisfied. So she was still answering everything like a machine...but hey, there was feeling in it. She could do this!

But then she stopped, frowned, and tilted her head slightly to the side, her upright antenna of hair curling itself slowly into a confused spiral. Kenichi's own expression changed to a puzzled one, his eyebrows lifting slightly.

"...Is talking like this... better? I'm sorry. I don't usually talk this much, so it's... difficult." Ah. So that was it. Just like Kenichi had thought before, he acknowledged to himself that from his point of view, the only reason she felt like she wasn't good at talking was because she wasn't used to doing it. He tried to think of some way to...some way to use his limited smarts to figure out how to help her. He could just keep asking questions, but...

Man, it's tough when the only thing you know anything about is muscles--wait a minute! That was it! To make a muscle you didn't normally use stronger, you had to work it out, true. But if you overworked it, you could damage it. Because it wasn't used to it. So in a situation like this, he shouldn't make Fumika talk too much for her--but at the same time, you had to push a muscle past what it was used to. You might have to do one more rep, every session. Or add a few more pounds of weight, every week. So this...maybe this would be good enough. He just had to push her a little further, and then maybe she could feel a little more confident for next time...

"Hey, no worries!" He reassured her, giving her a bright smile and a thumbs up. "No need to apologize. That comfort zone of yours just got a little bigger, is all!" He crossed his arms and nodded. "I haven't spoken to Reina much, I don't think, but Jett's cool. I hope he and Ezra didn't get in too much trouble for that stuff in the cafeteria on the first day." Now, what's one more thing I could ask, just an easy thing to answer to get her to go just a little beyond...

"What show was it you and Haruka watched?" He asked, tilting his own head in a manner similar to hers. He didn't have an ahoge to make neat little punctuation points like she could...although maybe if he developed the muscles in his forehead he could make that one top spike of his hair flex? Now there was an experiment for later...

On a Quest to Become True Heroes

The Drifter's eyes narrowed when the circumstances of the guard became clear. So the man had fought off pursuers--and killed them. His own brothers in arms. So the divide between the King and Queen had truly become so great? As the distant sounds of water sloshing and slapping against stone walls echoed all around them, the somber ambiance of the aqueducts became all the more sinister. The Zora Priestess spoke next, though the wanderer could hear the strain and breathlessness. Perhaps one could find fortune here--she still held onto the hope of a world where something like this could not happen. How much sweeter, that naivety, than the blood-stained truth they must now withstand.

"Why? Why would Guardsman turn on their own?" She shook her head, but the Drifter never took his eyes off the sight before them. "How anyone can justify slaying their own aside, how can they turn their backs on the Royal bloodline? Do they not understand that King Rolo is not-"

"In training, he is their scholar." spoke the traveler. "At the feast, their father. In their ranks, their brother. And in battle, the god they pray to save their souls." Drifter looked away from the carnage now, his eyes not quite cold but bearing a hard and harsh truth as he looked at the Zora. "Royal Blood or not, King Rolo is the man who led them to victory and sheltered them in defeat. His soldiers will not understand defiance of his will any more than you understand this pointless waste of life."

The splashing became more disturbed, yet it carried a sense of rhythm. Footsteps. The Drifter sharply turned this way and that, the hair on the back of his neck standing on end. He sniffed the air like a hunting hound.

"Do you hear that?" The priestess stepped to the side, looking through the door and out into the poorly lit room beyond. "If we intend to go, we should do so immediately. We are not alone and the door has ensured we will be discovered." She shot a worried glance to the rest of the group before turning her gaze to the Drifter, who now seemed to be taking in the other details of the chamber along the walls and the ceiling. "I am sorry for doubting you. It is clear that we have all been called upon to protect the bloodline of Hylia."

"I'm not offended by your good sense, my lady." He gave her a roguish smile after her apology. Then he looked down at the water they would have to wade through in order to reach the true castle entrance. The rain must have caused the water level in the tunnels to rise--rather inconvenient, for one's escape tunnel to be vulnerable to the whims of weather. But to cross the stream now would alert their enemies just as the sounds the enemy made alerted them. The Zora turned back to the doorway.

"This is our only chance to avoid bloodshed. To run and fight only as necessary."

"Just don't forget your last word, there. The final resort cannot be the unemployed resort." The Drifter himself had just advocated stealth and the least amount of violence possible. But in the end he held no illusions. He wished it would not come to such. But if it did, he wished only that it be short-lived.

"Can your magics part the waters, that we may pass silently and unimpeded?" he asked the Zora Priestess. He thought he had a trick of his own that could get him across, but it would leave the Zora and the Lady Knight behind. It might be wiser to ask first..
@ArmorPlated@Perascamin Speak of the devil and he appears, eh? Peras if you'll post sooner rather than later I think that'd be great. But Armor if you wanna go ahead and post feel free.
Asteria

On the Trail (D2)
@SilverPaw

Asteria eventually left Mei to whatever experiments she was doing, and convinced the Mother Rat to follow her once more. Mother wasn’t quite as quick as her daughter, but she was further along it seemed than Mei or Ed had been when it came to keeping up with Ria’s increased speed. As they tracked Ed’s trail from the previous day and came across the scene of carnage, Asteria took to sampling and investigating.

Your observations have granted you a new skill!
Skill Gain: Monster Analysis I!

Mother’s squeak drew her attention next. The bigger rat seemed to have picked up that they were tracking the other male rat from yesterday, as his scent was the only familiar one to her that Asteria seemed to have been following. Now that they had another lead, they began to follow it.

Soon they could see Ed, standing near the Pool. He was watching two nearby slimes...and seemed rather traumatized, if a rat could show emotions…

[[You can join their group if you’d like.]]

Edward, Asura, Jason

Pool Party (D2)
@Searat@Kazemitsu@Guy0fV4lor

As Ed watched in shock, his brain slowly began to register that what had happened was, perhaps, not such a randomly unfortunate occurrence after all. The red slime came to a stop--and considering its momentum, such a thing must have been calculated. It had wanted to stop, specifically, to meet a second green-colored slime. And, though its large mass gave it more trouble, the blue slime stopped as well. If Ed used his sharper senses, he could even hear what the Red and Green slimes were saying to each other--and these were the only two slimes he had ever heard, thus far, who could speak. Just like those Wisps, and those other rats…

As Jason and Asura conversed, the green slime decided to try another experiment. As he used his Tremor Sense on Asura, the red slime would feel much like one could imagine a bowl of jello feeling if you simply picked it up, put the lid on it, and then violently shook it like some kind of crazed bartender mixing a James Bond martini. In the end it made him quite dizzy, but at least it didn’t seem to be painful yet.

Jason, on the other hand, would notice that Tremor Sense didn’t really give him any noteworthy feedback about Asura’s body the way it had the Fanged Lizard. Maybe it was the lack of solid bones and flesh available to “map out” the body through the waves, or maybe it was just that there didn’t seem to really be anything “in” a Slime, except for their bile-like fluids and...well, maybe just one thing. The closer the waves got to Asura’s center of mass, the slower they became and the more of their energy bled out, leaving the vibrations that made it back to Jason weaker and less clear. So maybe there was some kind of “core” in there? Like the membrane pockets they could use to wrap up items in their Inventory?

As for telepathy...When Jason thought directly towards Asura, his intentions to communicate became perfectly clear between the two slimes. But while he could physically feel his Tremor Sense, and so could Asura, the only other feeling Jason could detect was somewhat similar to how his Mana behaved when he used Earth elemental spells. It was not so much that he controlled a flow of energy, or generated a certain type of power, but that whatever Mana he was putting into this--this “focus” of his own mind, this “invisible connection” between himself and another being--the Mana he put into it would pool up, and then “suffuse” the subject.

It was quite a hard thing to describe, and the green slime probably couldn’t even imagine how difficult it was to type in words. It was so difficult that most writers would probably just say “fuck it” and slap something down to be done with it.

But, the important thing was that there was a difference. There was a noticeable difference in what was happening to the Mana he used for Tremor Sense, and the Mana he was using for...whatever this form of communication between slimes could be called, since it didn’t seem to be quite the same as true mind reading.

Momma Slime, after watching in silence for a few moments, reached out to pat Asura on the head with a heavy pseudopod, causing his body to undulate somewhat.

What other small used-to-be-now-not me do? How...How I do?

As Lorek whirled and fired, his Mana Orb suddenly crackled all the louder. The energy blasted the zombified Pixie and kept going, tearing through its already mangled flesh. Now missing a large chunk of its ribcage and one of its arms, the zombie fell over backwards--but it wasn’t re-dead yet. Still groaning, blood and bile pouring from its mouth, nose, and eyes, it twisted until it gathered both legs underneath it. Pushing off with those snapping bones, it once more launched itself at Lorek.

Even though he had used Curses to kill it last time, the Pixies weren’t able to take this much damage normally. What would he have to do to put it down this time?

And more importantly, would he have enough MP to do it? If that System Message was any indication, he couldn’t use another Mana Orb now--would he be able to kill the creature with just his Lesser Force? If he used the Curse Word again, would he have any other method to damage it with no MP?

Rain, Orchid, Digbie, Mourningstar, Oberon, Orochi, Ardur

Flame of Chaos (D2)
@Old Amsterdam@Lucius Cypher@King Cosmos@CriticalHit@Gardevoiran@floodtalon@ReusableSword

Orochi launched a glob of Poison Spit after Orchid as she dragged Cripsy away, only for the goblin girl to almost instinctively react and swing her sword, swiping the poison blob out of the air. Her weapon hissed, its untreated sinew-bindings burning away and further weakening it, but she had managed not to let any of it get on her or Crispy. Orochi didn’t pursue any further, however--his priority was now Goblin #1, the one that had already been poisoned. In fact, even as Orochi was creeping up on him, the goblin clutched his stomach and then began to wretch.

As he bent over, Orochi darted in. Climbing up and over, he scaled the green monster’s body. He was almost to its throat before its diseased body could react, but the goblin missed as it reached for him. The Fanged Lizard sang his claws and fangs into the vulnerable throat, and this goblin too went down--but of course, he was taking Orochi with him! The lizard felt himself slammed into the ground, hard, dislodging him from his prey. The goblin rolled, one hand holding his own throat wound, and snatched up his Gnarled Stick. He stood up, weapon raised and hatred burning in his eyes--

Then he convulsed, throwing up once more, before dropping to the ground. His stick clattered to the stone floor.

Rain tried to take advantage of the bleeding Goblin #3’s distracted state to use her stealth ability, but in pitched battle it wasn’t that easy to simply go back into the shadows. Still, even though Goblin 3 turned towards her, all he could do was weakly kick out at her--which gave her the perfect opportunity to dart under his foot and seize the one planted on the ground. As her fangs savaged at his flesh, the goblin couldn’t help but fall, forcing him to let go of his wound. But he had already lost too much blood--with his heart struggling already, Rain’s paralytic venom simply stopped it. The Goblin weakly thrashed as he went into cardiac arrest. He looked up at the lizard sitting on his chest with an expression of fear.

What kind of death must it be, for a sentient creature, to be paralyzed, bleeding, afraid, dying? To slowly let life ebb away, helplessly? Would it, perhaps, be what was felt by those prisoners executed by lethal injection? Could anyone, still alive, ever know that feeling themselves?

Goblins 1, 2, and 3 were down. But Orchid and Crispy were already getting far from the battlefield, and getting further with every passing moment. For the young female goblin, right now Survival was a form of victory too. And right now, survival meant getting the hell out of here, with her “teacher” in tow. That's when she heard something being hurled towards them. Orchid didn't get a good look and simply acted on reflex; blindly swinging her sword backwards hoping to intercept the projectile. Against the odds she succeeded, swiping a ball of poisonous purple spit out of the air! None of it got on her or Crispy as it spattered against the rocks, but the acid burned through the sinews and strips of hide she had used to bind her sword together, further weakening it. When Digbie javelined a large stone spike at them, she again deflected it, but with more effort this time. But the strain was too much for her weapon, and it shattered. Pieces of wood and bone shrapnel peppered her, and Crispy to a lesser extent, but at this point it was a small price to pay.

But now with both hands free, Orchid could turn her greater-than-the-average-gob’s strength fully upon Crispy. She practically carried him now as they ran, and the blinded Goblin seemed to be making some kind of expression between awe, fear, confusion, and rage.

“Youngling! The big hole, to outside! Find Rattleskull!” the flame touched goblin managed to get out as he found his own feet--though all he could really do was jog at a slower pace alongside Orchid, since he had to rely on her to lead him.

But they weren’t out of the clear yet. As she shook off the flames of Orchid’s thrown torch, Mourningstar had let her rage get the best of her. With a shouted order at Oberon she set off in pursuit of the two goblins. Orchid and Crispy already had a fairly decent head start, though--if she really pushed it, Mourningstar might be able to maintain distance with them, track them over time and perhaps catch up whenever they stopped. But she just didn’t have the speed to overtake them, at least not right now. Would she continue the chase?

Oberon had done as was asked, healing first Mourningstar and then Rain, as he saw her perched on top of her slain goblin. Both of them would receive Full HP notices from the System, and Mourningstar had also refilled her MP with a crystal--speaking of which, hadn’t Crispy been stockpiling those somewhere?

But Oberon, like Mourningstar, found that he simply lacked the physical speed to overtake their retreating prey--but he could, perhaps, stay within sight of them and try to track them. But if he could see them, they could probably see him too--except Crispy, of course.

But one member of the party was able to catch up. Thanks to his Lesser Flight II skill, Ardur’s speed was greater than that of the others. He was able to catch up to the two goblins, and even managed to land on the female’s shoulder--

Then he cast a Shield spell on her!?

“Keep moving, you’re almost there!” he shouted at Orchid.

The other Fanged Lizard looked at Ash with bestial eyes. They could only see two things--that which was prey, and that which was not. As she spoke to it in a clear voice, there was no understanding in those eyes. It seemed curious...but ultimately, as the wild lizard backed out from under the rock, its curiosity was overcome by its instinct. It glanced around at the others--Pixies, a Wisp, another Fanged Lizard. Too many. Competitors? Predators? Prey? Too confusing. As Ash took a more relaxed stance, the Lizard finally made its move, and backed away from the group. It turned and tried to run--then promptly became tangled in its own leash. It began to thrash to free one of its legs, hissing and baring its fangs at the others again to try and keep them from attacking it in its moment of weakness.

You used Monster Analysis I!
This Monster is Dead. Decay has not begun, Effectiveness at 99%.
This is a Goblin. A semi-intelligent monster with the limb dexterity and mental capacity to use tools. By comparison, usually as large, strong, and intelligent as a human child, but far more vicious. This one was carrying a Hard Rock as a weapon. It was killed by something with claws and fangs. From its size and other identifying features, it is probably a fully mature specimen. You can’t be sure because you haven’t met that many goblins.
System:Danny

As Danny partook of the raw goblin, he experienced much the same thing Naji did. Thankfully he wasn’t as bad off as the Pixie, and could afford to eat much less. His Monster Analysis gave him some rather plain information that he could probably have just guessed on his own, but then again it was a brand new skill at the first rank.

Naji managed to pull out one of the goblins’ eyeballs, complete with a gushing of blood from the socket and a stringy length of optic nerve. There was also an excellent view of the inside of the green creature’s head, at least until you got to the gristly yellow of the bones under all the flesh. And of course the smell was just lovely. But as Naji chewed and chewed and forced himself to swallow, he felt the pangs of hunger finally beginning to settle a bit.

You are still Exhausted. You have regained a small amount of Stamina. You are still hungry. You are no longer starving. You are no longer experiencing HP Drain. Your HP is still Low. You are still Thirsty.
System:Naji

As Reoth avoided drawing attention to himself, it was surprising how good at it he turned out to be, given his albino coloration. But the one Pixie seemed so intent on devouring that goblin, and the other was hiding behind a rock perhaps until the leashed lizard was either tamed or had gone away. And everyone else was either talking or distracted by said starving pixie and aforementioned formerly enslaved lizard.

It would probably behoove Reoth to go ahead and take the initiative...

Jason

The Pool (D2)
@Guy0fV4lor

Using his Tremor Sense as a kind of impromptu MRI, Jason was able to find the position of an unusual organ within the creature’s body, but other than that it seemed to be a normal, if significantly larger, lizard…

The other slime accepted the legs with gusto, but it didn’t seem to understand the significance behind such a gesture. As Jason conversed with it, it seemed to draw back somewhat from his touch. It still retained a bare minimum of contact, however, in order to respond.

Not Me many idea Me not know. Almost too much. But eat Big? Big like--

BIG COMING VERY BIG HURT ME ME GO!

This time the other slime did jerk away, and quickly began flopping away. It wasn’t clear to Jason at first, until he heard the rolling noises behind him. Was that red slime Asura? But who--or what--was the big blue monstrosity behind him!?

[[You, Ed, and Asura will now be in a new Party unless you just ignore them. They're close enough you can see/hear most of what they're doing.]]

Skill Gain! Mana Slice I!
A slashing wave of projected mana--essentially, a Mana Orb that has gained the Slashing property. It consumes the same amount of MP as a Mana Orb spell of equal rank, and moves faster, but its damage is split between Slash and Non-Elemental Magic. Resistances and Defenses of the target will apply for each type.
System:Mourningstar

Mourningstar made use of her new skill to send a wave of magic, shaped like a crescent moon, at Goblin #3 as he hefted his rock one more time. As she cut open his throat, he dropped the rock and pressed both hands to the wound with a gurgle. He began to stumble away, not dead but not able to take his hands away from his throat for the moment. At the same time Mourningstar felt Oberon’s Shield I envelop her--which worked out well, as at that moment Orchid’s torch came flying through the air. The flames and heavy wood smashed into the Wisp, once again dropping her to the ground. The Shield held against the actual impact--but not against the flames! With an angry pop and hiss they washed over Mourningstar’s body, the heat unbearable even for those few seconds.

WARNING! Your HP is low!
System:Mourningstar

While this was happening, Rain was getting to her feet. Oberon offered her healing, at the same time attempting to analyze her even though his skill, like Mourningstar's, wasn't entirely suitable.

Skill effectiveness reduced to 30%. This is a Monster. You have scanned this type of Monster before, effectiveness increased to 35%.

Fanged Lizards are capable of Magic. This Lizard has one unusable semi-magically oriented skill, and one unusable spell skill. This one is unusual, like Orochi.
System:Oberon

Digbie, on the other hand, showered the Dire Rat in sparks that began to catch upon its fur. As it smoldered with one of the most rank smells one could imagine, he hefted it with a battlecry and let the disgusting corpse fly.

On the other side of the battlefield, Ardur grabbed a wooden splinter and attacked the downed Crispy. The Goblin had screwed his eyes tightly shut, but the pixie managed to stab his bugsticker through the thin flesh. As he did so, however, the flame-touched goblin spasmed wildly--had he already overcome the paralysis!?

“ARRGH! CRISPY GONNA MAKES YOU ALL PAY!”

The caster shoved his green palm at Ardur, whom he could only detect because of the direction of that last attack thanks to the damage to his eye. Still, however, his Fireball was still fully functional. Ardur was too close to avoid him--luckily, the Pixie still had his Shield up from before. As the magical projectile hit him point-blank, he was blown backwards head over heels. He could feel the heat as if on the other side of a window, unpleasant to say the least but not harming his flesh. Once it was done, though, as his shield faded his grass and spidersilk clothes began to catch the embers…!

Meanwhile, Digbie’s projectile crashed into the goblin with the pickaxe just as he was getting ready to attack the others again. Mourningstar now tackled the same goblin, knocking the green demihuman to its rump. Rain lunged at it a moment later, biting and tearing with her fangs, and Oberon fired a Mana Orb at it from a distance. In seconds, the group had brought down the first of this motley green gang.

Goblin #1, however, was still in the fray. He had seen Digbie throw the rat, and now turned to the other youngling with his Gnarled Stick raised in both hands.

“What you doin’, you dumb!? You s’posed ta kill da OTHER monstas!”

[[Orchid's Target for her attack is Orochi, I'm gonna let Critical respond to her attempted sword thrust on his own.]]

As Naji yelled even louder at the lizard, it paused again--but not as long as last time. By the time it got ready, however, Ash burst onto the scene. At her threatening display, the leashed Lizard drew back under one of the nearby rocks, but it did manage to hiss back. It kept its mouth open, as if emphasizing its fangs, making itself look more threatening. As Ash stopped looking directly at it to address Danny, it narrowed its jaws somewhat, but still kept up a drawn out, low volume hiss as its slitted eyes darted between all the unusual monsters around it…

As Naji bit into the goblin, smelly, bloody, and raw, he found the last bit of his strength helped along by desperation. Skin tore, muscle was pulped by his chewing, and fresh, hot blood spilled over his tongue. A thoroughly disgusting experience, but there was nothing even left in his stomach to vomit. And after the first few mouthfuls, the incessant beeping in his head seemed to stop...he still felt horrible, but for the moment it was tolerable. And the more he ate, the better it seemed to get, but just how much of this could he really stand?

And why was yet another Fanged Lizard approaching to eye him with that unreadable face?

As Reoth approached the starving pixie, he could hear what was going on between the Wisp and the other Lizard, which apparently seemed to be leading this “pack.” They were...speaking? Like him?

Meanwhile, Danny's attempt to observe the leashed lizard only told him what he could obviously see. It was a lizard--normal by most standards, no unique markings or colors like Ash and some of the others he had seen--and it was of the usual size for the monstrous reptiles. It looked like it might have taken a beating from the goblins at some point, but those scars on its scales had healed or been replaced by new skin. The leash around its neck was simply a rawhide strip, probably made from the skin of some other creature the goblins had slain.

Then a noise dinged in his head.

Edward

Pool Party (D2)
@Searat

As Ed’s rational mind and caring spirit won the battle over his bestial instincts, he refused to attack the human-like Pixie. Taking a good long look at himself in the pool, he wondered who he really was in this new world--just a Dire Rat, a monster like all the others? Or could he, once more, be the person he wanted to be?

Only Ed could make that decision. Only he could choose which path he would follow--man, or beast? But despite this uncertainty, he had at least made the choice to spare an innocent creature. He could, perhaps, take solace in the fact that this poor Pixie might live, and overcome its suffering--

And then a rapidly rolling red ball of gelatin flattened it.

Asura

Joining A Pool Party (D2)
@Kazemitsu

Hitting the Pixie was disturbingly similar to hitting an animal--like say, a squirrel or opossum--with one’s vehicle. A familiar crunch and everything.

With the dead pixie slowly digesting inside him, however, Asura would find it difficult to continue rolling at top speed. Doing so while eating, after all, would normally make one nauseous, right? As he called back at Momma Slime, she made no reply--but if the truth were known, she had rolled past Ed because her mass was too large and going to fast to make such a split-second stop.

The two living pinballs continued their helter skelter until they suddenly went over a rise in the rocks--and now down below them were two more slimes, one of which both Asura and Momma recognized…
