If an argument/spirited debate/conversation takes up more than a handful of back-and-forth statuses maybe that means it should be in PMs instead.

Exploring Near Crystals and Cave Walls (D2)
@SilverPaw@Jobst

As Asteria chewed and chiseled her collected bones into the proper shape, she found that though with enough time and effort she could indeed make something resembling a needle out of the bones, she couldn’t seem to give them any kind of edge. The best she could do was use her teeth to knap them, the way cavemen might make arrowheads, but this whittled their already small size down even further. Around half of the bones she worked with even became too brittle, and snapped in half upon her attempts to use them.

And when attempting to use them, she found a few more disappointing facts. For one thing, her spine just didn’t seem quite flexible enough to stand upright yet. The best she could do, when supported by her tail, was a sort of half-hunch--good enough to hold food in her paws and eat, perhaps, but not good enough to fight or walk this way with any frequency. What was more, even with the assistance of her powerful tail, she just didn’t have the strength or balance to remain like this for more than a minute or so at the time. Maybe if she practiced she could build those necessary muscles up, but right now it just didn’t seem viable.

As far as actually using her makeshift weapons went...her little paws did have five “fingers,” but they weren’t structured the right way. The “thumbs” weren’t really opposable the way a human hand would have them, and the palms were meant to be flat against the ground, not gripping or finely manipulating objects. And much like her legs were not strong enough to support her weight for a long time, her “arms” weren’t strong enough or dextrous enough yet to wield a weapon. Even though she stabbed only empty air, she would feel as if she couldn’t really do damage this way, not as she was now. It seemed like most of that “physical power” the Dire Rat specialized in was based around their jaws and overall bodies--she could probably grip something with her paws, giving her a good base and leverage, and then use her jaws in combination with that to rip great chunks of flesh out of her enemies. But becoming a warrior out of Redwall Abbey might take a while…

Edward

Battle Royale (D1)
@Searat

Ed nimbly dodged the slime’s last, desperate attack, leaving its flailing pseudopods to slam into the ground behind him. As he leaped on it from another angle the other monster was in the middle of trying to reconstitute its shape--inside its gelatinous body, the purple acid gave one last bubble, like boiling water under which the fire had gone out. As Ed’s fangs and claws tore through the slime’s membrane, however, some of the poison spilled onto him as well--he could feel its sting as it sizzled on his fur. But it seemed he was lucky--the sickness that seemed to overtake creatures hit by the Fanged Lizard’s venom did not seem to infect him.

But burns and bruises aside, the lone Dire Rat now stood victorious amongst this bloodbath. A lizard, two other rats, a wisp, and a goblin--all of these were edible. Only the slime, due to its lack of cohesion and the fact that it was full of poison, probably would not make a befitting meal even for a scavenger like Ed’s rodent self. With no more need to hunt, would he return to the nest? Would he seek out a new home? It was growing very late, and the cave seemed almost pitch black now...

Asura, Edith

On The Trail (D2)
@Kazemitsu@ShwiggityShwah

The blue slime shrank back at the volume of Edith’s voice, but after a moment its blurbles became deeper in tone and it drew itself up to full height again. Then Asura stepped in to play peacemaker, once more extending his pseudopod. The blue slime started to shrink back, but with all its bulk it couldn’t get away in time.

Don't eat us. Help. Protect. Grow stronger.

...Why? You...not me. came the answer. I...not...know. Not know why...I. Don’t eat? If not eat, die. Not want. I...I do not...want...want to.

I do not want to die. Why not eat you? Why you not try eat me?

It seemed like there was some kind of breakthrough possibility here, but the Slime’s level of thinking was still so primitive they were having a hard time getting through. Maybe if one of them was a better communicator, things would be different…

Lorek

The Pool (D1)
@Bishop

As Lorek used his Curse Word, the moment he made eye contact with the pixie a sort of power seemed to pass through that connection. The pixie drew its divebomb up short as a black, almost fog like substance began to appear just as the edges of its body, though fading away quickly like a short lived fire’s smoke. But thanks to this, it had already killed its momentum by the time Lorek fired his Mana Orb. With a graceful flip, the gossamer winged creature evaded his attack, then pointed and laughed at him. Then, with a cruel grin, it headed towards him again, this time pulling back its tiny fist for a haymaker--after all, there wasn’t much else its tiny muscles could use to get any real power out of a blow...

Jason

The Hole in the Wall (D2)
@Guy0fV4lor

Jason’s Rock Spire was well placed, and the Fanged Lizard never saw it coming. Its own momentum was helped along by gravity as it sped on its stubby legs down the rocky slope, until the earthen spell ripped out of the ground in front of it and skewered it. The creature let out an awkward squeal as it thrashed, but the spire’s tip had pierced it all the way through and it didn’t have the strength or leverage to pry itself off. It was just a matter of time--sooner rather than later.

As Jason sank low to the ground, preparing himself like a spring, the motley crew of monsters finally seemed to notice his presence. He leaped up in front of the injured wisp, which immediately fired off its Mana Orb. At such a close distance Jason couldn’t dodge, but he also couldn’t stop his own momentum. The magical shot tore through his body, causing him a great deal of pain--but his own gelatinous mass slapped the Wisp down like a glowing volleyball. Its body impacted the ground with a high pitched scream--then it moved no more as he came down on top of it.

He and the other Wisp both spat at the same time--one launched a projectile of bile, the other of sparkling energy. The two missiles collided in mid-air, creating a splatter of vomit and sparkles in the air.

But what about the last slime? Jason had just stolen its prey right out from under it. Same species or not, it did not seem to appreciate this. With an angry squelch the slime imitated Jason’s own move from a moment before, launching itself off the sloping stone floor to try and slam into him...

You used Monster Analysis I!
---Fanged Lizard---
A reptilian monster with potent venom. When injected via a bite, it acts as a neurotoxin to paralyze the prey. When exposed to the air, it becomes a highly acidic liquid. The lizard can spit at a distance. This one is unusual.
---Analysis Complete!---
System:Orchid

With this message in the back of her mind, Orchid called out to her fellow goblins. Two of them moved to obey, flanking Rain the Fanged Lizard from each side--but the third turned back with an angry glare.

“Who you think you give orders to!?” snarled the goblin--just before a stick of firewood sailed over his head far too close for comfort.

“KILL LIZARD!” Crispy howled, and the third goblin turned back to join in.

Just a few feet away, however, another battle was taking place. As the Dire Rat ran over the hill, Orochi darted into action. As he called out a warning to Digbie, he darted across the ground at high speed and snapped his fangs at the rodent. With a surprised squeak, the other monster jumped aside--just as the wider and blunter end of Digbie’s Stone Spike came down on it with a heavy thud. The beast shook itself as it rose back to its feet, obviously injured.

Just in time to be pelted by a Mana Orb. The Dire Rat took the shot head on, the magical projectile boring a hole into its head, though it didn’t have enough force or velocity to come out the other side yet. However, as she blindly fired without checking her target, Mourningstar’s second and third Mana Orbs, as well as her Crystal, were foolishly wasted before she took off screaming bloody murder.

"HEY, ANY HUMANS AROUND?! WE NEED HELP DEALING WITH A REALLY BIG RAT!" Mourningstar shouted as she ran right towards the bonfire. All of the Goblins present suddenly did a double take, and the same one that had protested Orchid’s order stopped chasing Rain outright.

“How dat Wisp talk!?”

"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!"

This time ALL the goblins, save perhaps Orchid, stopped.

“How dat Lizard talk!?” cried the other two pursuers in confusion.

Rain and Mourningstar met in the middle with Oberon not far behind, while Digbie and Orochi were still standing over the Dire Rat’s body. Orchid was now between the three goblins, who were up ahead after Rain, and Crispy who stood at the rear.

“Youngling! Keep eyes on prey!” Crispy held out his hands and began to focus. Flame blossomed between his palms...

Reoth

On the Hunt (D2)
@Kangutso

Seeing the horrors of this new world, Reoth made a vow. He would never again hurt such a creature, another pixie, again unless it attacked him first.

Like this one dive bombing him out of the sky.

With a shrill, indecipherable voice, it chittered at him as it tried to kick him, hard, with both feet while dropping out of the sky at high speed. In the few seconds he had left until impact, Reoth might notice that it bore some similar features, and the same hair color, as the one he had just killed…

Ash, Naji, Scott, Danny

Nearby the Pool
@Rune_Alchemist@ghastlyInc@CollectorOfMyst@Duthguy

As Ash advanced, leaving the two pixies to take cover, the two goblins seemed to be conversing about something. Whatever it was didn’t seem important, but nonetheless they weren’t paying much attention to their surroundings other than trying to keep their own lizard in line. Could they possibly be trying to domesticate the monster?

Ash darted out from beneath her cover, biting the armed goblin hard. As she used her fangs not just to inject venom, but to rip and tear, the goblin immediately went to one knee with a scream--she had apparently torn his achilles tendon, or something much like it. But, for right now he didn’t seem paralyzed, and he turned to swing haphazardly with that heavy rock right at Ash’s scaly head!

Just then, a Mana Orb flew by from another direction. It struck the goblin who was holding the rawhide leash, right in his hand. Danny’s aim had been slightly off, but the result was the same--the goblin screeched and let go, and the Fanged Lizard suddenly darted between its former master’s legs before imitating Ash. Unlike the soulled lizard, however, it merely nipped long enough to get its fangs into the prey and then withdrew--coincidentally heading towards the same rocks the pixies were hiding behind!

The goblin who had been holding the leash yelped and jumped up and down, alternating between holding his foot and his hand...

He glanced back at Asuka one more time, and started to ask if her text had sent. Maybe she didn't have enough signal. Or...maybe it had sent, but Fumika just hadn't seen it yet. Maybe she was already asleep. Maybe her phone was charging. Maybe she was charging. Maybe he'd done something to make her mad at him--

Like completely disappearing from school and ignoring her for four days?

He hadn't even thought about it until now, probably because he didn't think he'd ever seen her mad. Well, except that one time. When she had yelled and he'd gone running. He still didn't know what that had really been about except for Jett and Haruka having some kind of dispute. But could that be possible? Maybe...maybe she just didn't want to see him.

But then he saw her.

She stopped, one step away from the bottom of the stairs. He saw her eyes change color--he knew that meant her Quirk must have activated, but why? Had she just been recording something, playing something back? Maybe she was so pissed at him she was going to project someone else to kick him out. He started to speak, his mouth dropping open more than anything--

But then he heard her.

"Yoshida...?" She asked, her quiet, worried voice cutting through the silent air between them. "Why... Why are you hurt? What happened to you?" Her eyes re-focused, meeting his gaze as she slowly, hesitantly approached.

And all of a sudden he felt like he could breathe again. Even with cracked ribs.

"Yo, Motome-chan!" He raised a hand in greeting with a big grin. "It's...kind of a long story." He rubbed the back of his neck. "And technically I'm not really allowed to say anything about it now. But I mean, if it wasn't obvious enough, I kind of lost a fight." He shook his head with a chuckle. "Two for two. Guess I'm not that great a Main Character after all?" But he didn't really feel bitter as he said it. After all...he had made it back, hadn't he?

He stepped forward to meet her halfway, managing to stand up straight for the first time that day. It didn't help much, since she was still taller than him, but that wasn't important.

"Sorry I kind of left you hanging for a few days." His grin softened, from something out of Dragon Ball or One Piece to a softer, more real smile. "How have you been?"
Some of this also probably depends on whether or not the King himself is an actual badass. Like, regardless of whether or not he has his army with him, what if he has some kind of Royal Bloodline magic or whatever too? Or enchanted armor, weaponry, etc? If he's intended to be a final boss in some fashion, even if he was caught alone or off guard he probably couldn't die at this point for more legit reasons besides just plot armor--we're probably not "strong enough" yet to take him down, like Link never is even after getting the first 3 McGuffins of every first half of every game.

It's still a totally in-character decision for Nadi to make, but if Telma were to present all these reasons to her in Product's next post I doubt she'd actually be convinced. It might be better for Telma to lead all that "gimme action!" fire in a different direction--maybe request that she create a distraction in the town square, or that she make her way to the top of the city wall and give a signal when the King's army is getting close. Heck, maybe go steal some other item--like say, an old signet ring from the Royal Tombs--that the King might try to use as either justification for his own continued rule, or falsified evidence against the Queen, etc.

"Yes, I do karate," Mina answered politely, with a smile. Kenichi still got kind of a chilly feeling from her, and couldn't help but rub the back of his head somewhat bashfully. He wondered if he'd done something to piss her off--maybe she could read expressions or something (martial artists were probably good at that) and had read through some of his disapproval the last time he had walked in on that conversation between her and Jett. Then again, that had been...what, four days ago? "It's the only striking martial art I'm a black belt in, though I'm more of a grappler overall. What about you? Do you know any martial arts?"

"A black belt?!" Kenichi's eyes turned bright again, and he couldn't help but grin. Young men are always excited by feats of strength and merit, after all. "Nice! But, as for me," He shook his head, then looked down at his fist with a furrowed brow. He still had bandages wrapped around it where his knuckles had been bloodied from repeated impacts against another human being's skull. Don't think about it. It wasn't the fact that he'd nearly beaten three people to death that he was trying to avoid. He was trying not to remember the feeling of being beaten. Being helpless. Being weak. Don't think about it!

"My Quirk's a strengthening type, so up until now I got by on just pure speed and power. But that's not gonna cut it anymore--I'm sure people who actually know how to fight, like you and Yashiro-kun, could still beat me. I've gotta get...stronger. Better, I mean. Fight smarter." He realized he was navel gazing, and looked back at Mina.

"Don't mean to babble, sorry! But hey, do you mind if I ask where you trained? Is there a dojo around here I could check out?" He crossed his arms and stood in a more relaxed stance, listening for her reply, but also glanced over at Asuka to see if she had gotten any kind of reply to her text. His eyes also darted, just for a moment, towards the halls and stairs.

Was she coming? Where might she be coming from? Surely she was here, right...?
Xiao Mei, Asteria

Exploring Near Crystals and Cave Walls (D2)
@SilverPaw@Jobst

With Xiao Mei’s urging, Mother Rat seemed to realize her offspring wanted her to follow them. When she saw the smaller rats trying to drag off the lizard corpses, she assisted by picking one of them up all by herself. Their mother led the way, back to their original nest--this place was covered with her territorial scents, and given what they had seen of the cave so far it was likely that the mother had fought tooth and nail to secure this place before giving birth. It didn’t look or smell like any other creatures had been here recently. It also didn’t seem like any of their other siblings had returned yet...would they? Had they struck out on their own as matured Dire Rats? Or had something happened to them?

With the lizard corpses, the group had plenty to eat but not quite so much room to sleep. Still, Mother Rat didn’t seem to mind, and after eating her fill turned three circles before practically laying on top of Xiao Mei and Asteria, just like she had before they had grown.

They hadn’t seen any sign of Ed again yet. Or those Wisps they had so treacherously attacked. Would they ever meet again? What else awaited them in this cave?

Those were questions to be answered, perhaps, on another day…

[[Time-skip to D2. You awaken at the dawning.]]

Edward

Battle Royale (D1)
@Searat

As Ed tried to wait out his opponent, the Slime continued to suffer from the poison inside it. It moved warily as if it, too, was waiting for Ed to attack first. But when he didn’t, and as it grew weaker and weaker, the other monster grew desperate. Finally it lunged--but before its bulbous mass made contact, it split down the middle! Molding its body awkwardly, it managed to basically shape itself like a horse shoe, with globby “fists” without fingers coming at Ed from both sides to try and crush him…!

Asura, Edith

On The Trail (D2)
@Kazemitsu@ShwiggityShwah

Edith crawled up on the ledge and formed a pseudopod and tried to touch the slime. She tried to think really loudly, but ended up just talking.

"Ahem. Me Friend. Noise Happy. Small me happy big me. Small me become big me?" hoping that might get them somewhere.

Agree. came the blue slime’s sentiment, just as Asura was coming up on the other side. Its body wobbled, then suddenly loomed up and came down over Edith like a dome. And the edges where the pink slime and blue slime touched each other began to blend into a light shade of violet--

His thoughts were silent but it was a simple touch. Even as a human displays of affection came hard. This being had spawned him and didn't seem to mean any harm to the pair of slimes. He also didn't have a clue on how to transfer thoughts through his limbs.

Asura didn’t really think about it, because for more sapient creatures it just comes naturally, but the simple fact was that he WAS thinking.

So that was how slimes were supposed to talk, through touch and thought? I guess that she was saying I was familiar, something about being big then being small. Maybe slimes breed by getting big then shedding excess and undesired mass?

This is just a simple touch. Even in my old life, I wasn’t good at showing affection. This thing spawned me, and it doesn’t seem to mean any harm to us. But I have no idea how to transfer thoughts through my limbs.

And of course, there was no doubt Edith was still thinking something of her own. Likely something involving extreme fear at the prospect of being absorbed and assimilated by the much larger, stronger slime…

TOO MUCH SMALL ME HURT ME WHY HOW FEEL TOO MUCH FEEL--MANY FEEL--SO MANY--YOU--I--DIFFERENT

The blue slime split itself away from Edith of its own accord, drawing back as if it had been hurt. For a moment it shook itself, then finally settled into a sort of heavy breathing, its mass rising and falling in rhythm, but it now seemed to regard the two smaller slimes with some heretofore unknown sentiment, even to itself...

Lorek, Danny

The Pool (D1)
@Bishop@Duthguy

As Danny found his way back to a safe crevice, he had probably already realized that this was going to be a dangerous, unforgiving world. And unlike many of the other Damned Heroes, he had seen one former human try to kill another. As if it were no better than the other monsters. As if they too were simply beasts ruled by instincts. Or maybe that human had meant it. Maybe they were just a murderer. And maybe that was somehow worse than these creatures that killed just because they had to eat and fight for territory.

Would these thoughts haunt his dreams? He wouldn’t know until the next morning…

[[Time-skip to D2. Awaken in the dawn.]]

Meanwhile, as Lorek sulked about, the same pixie that had attacked Danny earlier seemed to have decided to come back for something. Perhaps water, perhaps the herbs, but nonetheless it saw Lorek, floating all alone. Mistaking the Wisp for the same one that had crashed into it earlier, it decided it would show them a lesson this time! Taking aim and drawing its body back, complete with a slight butt wiggle, it then launched itself into a dive bomb at Lorek, its tiny fists clenched tight...

Jason

The Hole in the Wall (D2)
@Guy0fV4lor

As Jason went about his various tasks, he would find that the herbs nearest to the green crystal seemed to respond almost immediately after being planted and watered--their leaves grew out just another few centimeters, and began to swell where they had looked a little dried out before. None of his crop was full grown yet, but it was clear that the proximity to the larger crystal was having some sort of effect. A similar, but noticeably lesser effect, took place on any herbs that happened to be closer to a regular Mana Crystal--though this also had the effect of dimming the crystal’s light.

Observing the green crystal had much the same result as last time. Even the mental pain seemed about the same--that is, excruciating--despite Jason’s attempt to brace himself. He wasn’t out of it quite as long this time, though.

As he went down to the pond, continuously switching off between using Tremor Sense and practicing what he assumed would be the Aqua Sphere spell, he soon received a message.

You have run out of MP.

Trying to keep tremor sense on passively seemed to be a massive effort on his part, especially if he tried to do it at the same time as he was practicing with the water. Using the vibration sensing skill in shorter bursts seemed like it had been more efficient. But now he would either have to rest or use up another one of his crystals…

Before he could make that decision, however…

Over a sloping rock nearby, a group of monsters suddenly came running! They must have been out of Jason’s Tremor Sense range at first, and since he had run out of MP he hadn’t picked them up as they crossed the distance. But at first it didn’t seem like they were targeting him specifically--it was a Wisp, bloodied and weaving in panicked zig zags, flying away from a Slime in hot pursuit. The slime’s low speed, however, and the fact that several dark colored spots on its body implied injuries, meant that it too must have been prey for something. And indeed, seconds later a Fanged Lizard appeared over the rise, spitting poison at the Slime though it missed every shot. And moving at a similar speed several feet above the lizard, a second Wisp seemed concerned for the first one’s safety, as it seemed to be straining to catch up to the Slime before the Lizard did...

“Could eat dem, I guess. If you just crush in hand, though, they sinks into skin. Sometimes I sniff, cause it makes my head feels tingly.” Crispy answered Orchid. As she attempted to cast fire, with of course no results, the other Goblin shook his head. “Ya gots to think about fire harder den dat! Fire hot! Fire eat wood, eat air! Fire like living thing, needs to move!”

As he waved his hands in yet another demonstration, however, something nearby made a phlegmy sound. And as Crispy looked towards it, a large purple glob splattered all over him.

“GYARGH!” he screeched, rubbing at himself with both hands to try and get the poison off. Steam rose from his skin as it burned him--Rain had done it! But it looked like even though she had managed to damage him this time, he hadn’t been infected with her poison. He still looked fairly healthy save for the new, non-fiery burns on his chest--and quite angry as well.

“Youngling! All you gobs! Kill dat lizard!” Crispy pointed his torch at Rain, and the other three goblins--the only ones left since all the miners had been sent to help Rattleskull and the Boss had taken many others with him to hunt and gather wood--the other three goblins grabbed up their sticks and rocks and began to head in Rain’s direction menacingly. Crispy looked at Orchid in expectation.

Mourningstar, Oberon, Orochi, and Digbie would see all of this commotion as they approached--but as Digbie used his new, active form of Tremor Sense, he felt light, pitter patter vibrations coming their way. Then they stopped as his tremor sense rebounded back to him. Before he could send out another pulse, however, a large and aggressive looking Dire Rat came running out of a rocky outcrop, darting directly towards the goblin’s ankles with fangs bared! It had felt the tremor sense pulse traveling through the ground from this direction, and must have taken it as an attack by Digbie. Thinking such an attack to be unsuccessful, it had turned its fangs upon the goblin, not realizing yet that he had companions with him.

One of those companions, however, might be a little distracted at the moment.

As Reoth bit down on the Pixie, a crunch that was either satisfying or horrifying met his ears. He felt the creature’s skull give way beneath those saber like fangs of his, and a moment later its warm blood gushed over his lips. He had successfully hunted his first creature! But how did it feel to kill something? How had he known this creature wasn’t like himself, a reincarnated human being? Had he heard its human-like crying, seen the tears on its face just before his jaws came down?

As Ash led her new companions in search of food, they soon found it. Or at least, what could possibly be it, if they had the courage to take on such a challenge: Two goblins walked through the cave, apparently either shirking work or having been sent by Crispy or Rattleskull on some mission of their own. But the oddest thing was that one of these goblins was holding a strip of rawhide or something similar--and at the other end of this makeshift lease was a Fanged Lizard. It didn’t exactly look happy--but then again, how many lizards besides Ash and her little bunch could probably show real emotion?

Only one of the goblins seemed to be carrying a weapon, a simple blunt rock. The other had his hands full with his “pet,” if you could really call it that...
@ArmorPlated
Is it a matter of their coexistence? I was under the impression that Hylia was like, the one deity above all, and then Din, Nayru, and Farore were created by and subservient to her. Just in some games she's either so ancient or so unconnected to events that only the three are ever mentioned. Then again I haven't played Skyward Sword which I think is the game in which most of that got hammered out.

As for Hylianism, that could potentially go back to the arguments from way back over different translations of the games--does the word "Hylian" refer only to the race of elf-like people with pointy ears, or does it refer to every citizen of the Kingdom of Hyrule regardless of race? Are a Hylian and a Human the same thing? Is there a difference between Hylian and Hyrulean? Are the people of Ordon village a different race since they have round ears? So on and so forth.
Edit, because I always think of something more I want to say or ask: How common is Light magic among the casters of Hyrule?

Edit 2: Anyone know what the primary religion of Hyrule would even be called?

In the games we really only seem to see Zelda use it, as far as I know, outside of individual items or temples that use it as a theme. In fact I want to say a few times (Minish Cap, possibly some others) "Light Magic" or "Light Force" is a unique ability possessed by the Royal Bloodline. But OoT established so many of the series' staples, and in that one it was really more the domain of Time that was the Royal Family's schtick and the Light Sage was just some dude who could turn into an owl. Maybe he was part of the Royal Family or something though.

Magic in general in Zelda actually isn't common, though. Outside of Link, and outside of the particular items that do particular things, how many actual wizards on the level of Gandalf or even Harry Potter do we see? Major villains, like Agahnim and Veran and Vaati, are the only ones who come to my mind.

As for the religion, I guess it would depend on whether this setting includes Goddess Hylia up above the usual Triforce group. If Hylia is included I would think it should be called Hylianism, whereas if it's only the three maybe it'd be called something like Trinitarianism or something.

I assume most of this would just be up to @Product's personal taste though.

I forgot to mention this in the post, but the door is locked from your side, so you'll just have to turn a deadbolt. The guard locked it to keep whatever attacked him away. Sloppy writing on my end.

Well Drifter spouts cryptic bullshit all the time so he's obviously the type to overthink it and completely miss that like a dumbass. XD
@Perascamin Whoops, ninja'd, I'll edit.

EDIT: There we go.

To Save a Child Not Yet Born

"I understand, my friend. I shall warn Impa, and save the child."

After the last words, the guard fell silent again. The Drifter could feel the stranger's grip lessen, until he was holding a corpse's hand and a crumbled piece of paper. The Drifter could tell it was a map of the secret passage ways. Some of the dead guard's blood obscured the paper, but the wax symbol of the royal family pressed in the upper left corner was untarnished.

He folded the map and tucked it safely into a pocket under his outer robes, then stood. He hated to leave the fallen man here for the rats, but perhaps there would be time or someone he could tell later on. For now, he had to get into the castle...Which he assumed meant getting through the locked door.

Did the guard have a key? If he did, surely he would have passed it on along with the notes. Perhaps, with this being a secret passage, the door was meant to open by some hidden mechanism instead? Hylians were known for their love of puzzles and interesting gadgets, after all. The Drifter considered his surroundings with a low hum. Where might there be a switch, or a pulley, or a lever...

The only thing he could conceive of at the moment was the torch. How often, really, would someone have to come to this secret passage? More than likely this was intended as an escape route or hideaway, a way to get the Royal Family out of the castle in case of invasion or assassination. Would they be worried about an infiltrator coming in from the opposite direction? Would they bother to post a guard? The dead man had probably come down here specifically to meet with Drifter, or whoever the Queen might call. If he were on a secret mission, would he have bothered with a torch, the light of which could give away his position?

All the speculation, however, wouldn't provide any answers. Only taking action would reveal the truth. Drifter walked to the torch ensconced upon the wall, and tried to pull it out of its bracing...

"Who goes there?"

The Drifter turned, pulling up part of his cloak to cover his eyes as an armored figure brandishing a brightly gleaming blade approached him. As he was nearly blinded, his thoughts raced even faster. Had he been found out? Was this an enemy? The hand that had been reaching for the torch now dropped to the handle of his umbrella leaning against the wall. His grip tightened imperceptibly.

"A friend awaiting one's arrival." he answered, remembering the Queen's own words. "Perhaps we should be careful that the light of justice not blind those who follow it?"
